"A 28-year study of cross folds leads to the conclusion that the northwest-southeast folds recognized in many areas of North America are part of a regional pattern. Detailed examination of over 650 geological maps and reports of Ontario indicates that this folding can be traced across the province. Evidence is presented that this fold pattern played an important part in determining the pattern and scale of intrusion, that its recognition in the field can aid in defining stratigraphy, folding and faulting, and that it may have played an important role in channeling hydrothermal or magmatic mineralization. IntroductionThe concept of regional cross folding in Ontario is not new. W.H. Gross (1955) discussed regional cross folds in the Archean of Northwestern Ontario, and A.M. Goodwin (1961) referred to regional cross folds in the Archean of Ontario and Quebec. However, the interpretation in this paper is new.The writer saw a cross fold for the first time, underground, at Little Long Lac Gold Mines in Geraldton, Ontario, in 1951. This recalled the ""transverse folds"" on E.R. Faribault's classical maps of Nova Scotia, published by the Geological Survey around the turn of the century; M.E. Hurst's cross fold(s) at Timmins, Ontario (Figure I); and the cross folds mapped by A.W. Jolliffe in the Yellowknife area of the Northwest Territories. All these mapped cross folds had one thing in common with the fold at Little Long Lac: A northwest-southeast axial trend. Were such cross folds of purely local extent, or might they be indicative of a widespread regional fold pattern? If so, has such folding any significance for mineral exploration or potential?By 1959, based on a study of about 1000 Canadian geological maps and reports, including 291 in Ontario, the writer reached the conclusion that cross folding trending northwest-southeast is so widespread as to constitute a pattern of folding, and that such cross folding should produce changes in plunge along pre-existing greenstone fold belts."

"Ecstall Mining Limited, a subsidiary of Texas Gulf Incorporated operates the Kidd Creek Mine, a 10,000 tons per day base metal producer, near Timmins, Ontario. Two different ore types are mined and milled: copper-zinc and silver-lead-zinc. At the highly automated Ecstall Concentrator the ores are processed by selective flotation in threes individual circuits. One of the most important metallurgical tools for process control is a sample system incorporating continuous on-stream x-ray analysis. Recently this system was further automated by adding computer control of reagents for two copper-zinc flotation circuits. The computer programs, utilizing optimum seeking methods and smelter contract terms, have increased copper recovery 0.8%, zinc recovery 1.6%, and reduced reagent costs by 12%. Although not anticipated, copper and zinc concentrate grades were improved modestly as well.INTRODUCTIONSEcstall Mining Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Texas Gulf Incorporated operates the Kidd Creek Mine, one of the world's major base metal producers, near the old gold mining centre of Timmins, Ontario. Discovered in 1964, the property was brought into production in November, 1966. Originally designed for 9,000 tons per day, the operation now treats 10,000 tons per day of two different ore types mined from a single open pit. In the near future, open pit ore will be supplemented by ore from an underground operation now being readied for productionAt the Ecstall Concentrator the ores are processed by selective flotation in three individual circuits. The whole plant is highly automated and control is coordinated from a central control room. The treatment process follows conventional practices although fine grinding is required for optimum flotation recoveries. Normally, two circuits treat copper-zinc ore at a combined rate of 6,500 tons per day while the third circuit treats 3,500 tons per day of silver-lead-zinc ore. Special production averages 2,400 tons per day."

Since the start-up of its first Direct Reduction Module in April 1973, S1DBEC has produced over 2 million tons of prereduced iron. During this period, SIDBEC has acquired comprehensive experience in the operation of the direct reduction process and at the same time has learned to recognize the characteristics that the oxide should have to constitute an adequate feed for the process. A comparison is made as to the design and operation of the two direct reduction units now operating at Contrecoeur, Que. A description is given of a method of evaluation of a direct reduction unit, which takes into account the main process variable sand which permits comparison ofthe results on a daily basis. The paper defines the characteristics that the iron oxide and the prereduced iron pellets must have to meet the specific requirements of the direct reduction and the electric arc furnace processes. A simple model makes possible a rapid evaluation of the technical and economic effect related to the use of a given raw material. Finally, the paper outlines the advantages of prereduced iron in the steelmaking process and on the quality of the steel products.

"The application of hydroxamic acid as flotation collectors is fast becoming of significant interest for the selective flotation of oxide minerals along with upgrading oxidised based metal ores and minerals. In the hydroxamate molecule, both O and N atoms in the -CONHOH group are identified as coordination atoms in many complexes and their characteristic structure determines the strength of the chelation complex between the hydroxamate and metal ion. The chelating performance of hydroxamates with transition metals including Cu, Ni, Zn, Fe, Cr, Mn and Co, the alkaline-earth metals (Be, Ca) and heavy metal (Pb) has been studied. Cytec has developed and patented a range of alkyl hydroxamates as flotation collectors for oxidised base metal sulphides, metal oxide minerals and precious metals. This paper introduces two new structures of hydroxamate collectors (Cyclohexyl and 4-tert-butylbenzoyl hydroxamates) and evaluates their characteristics relative to alkyl and benzoyl hydroxamates. Laboratory small-scale flotation tests were conducted with ilmenite and wolframite. The use of 4-tert-butyl benzoyl hydroxamate resulted in a best flotation performance for ilmenite. A relatively low cyclohexyl hydroxamate dosage was required in the flotation of wolframite to obtain comparable results to the alkyl and benzoyl hydroxamates. It is also shown a significantly improved flotation performance with 4-tertbutyl benzoyl hydroxamate in the flotation of ilmenite plant ore in comparison to the oleic acid or fatty acid collectors typically used for ilmenite flotation.INTRODUCTIONHydroxamic acid has been reported as an effective collector in small-scale flotation tests for a wide variety of oxide minerals and ores including copper (Lee et al., 1998, Lee et al., 2009), iron (Quast, 2000), tin (Sreenivas and Padmanabhan, 2002; Wu and Zhu, 2006), tungsten (Marinakis and Kelsall, 1987; Xia et al.,2004), and rare earth metal minerals (Ren et al., 1997; Pradip and Fuerstenau, 1991; Assis et al., 1996; Pavez et al., 1996; Zheng et al., 1996; Chen et al.,2005).As part of our previous research project, a selected suite of hydroxamic acid collectors including fatty, aromatic and modified hydroxamates (naphthoyl, cyclohexyl, benzoyl, octyl, 4-tert-butyl benzoyl, salicylic hydroxamates) were tested in order to examine their potential for recovery and selectivity of rare earth minerals. In these tests it was shown that the flotation performance with the hydroxamate collectors was significantly better than the phosphoric acid collectors on no slimes removed samples (Brian, et al., 2014; Liuyin, et al., 2014 and unpublished internal technical reports). Furthermore the tests revealed that for most of the hydroxamate reagents tested, their dosage requirements to achieve recoveries at the same levels was less than that for the phosphoric acid collectors. Recovery of both La and Ce was significantly better for the salicylic hydroxamate and that Nb, Y and Zr recovery were favoured by the octyl and benzoyl hydroxamates (Brian, et al., 2014; Liuyin, et al., 2014). Comparison among the hydroxamate collectors showed that the flotation and recovery performance of cyclohexyl (CHH) and 4-tert-butyl benzoyl (TBH) was not as good as the other hydroxamates for rare earth recovery."

Increasing depths and mechanization of underground mines have led to the production of large amounts of gaseous and particulate contaminants. Over 100 000 lives have been lost due to methane gas and dust explosions in coal mine workings in both the United States and Canada since 1900. There is, therefore, the need to constantly assess and evaluate the performance of existing mine ventilation systems to maintain safe and acceptable mine environmental conditions. This paper advances research initiatives in the control of methane gas in underground mine environments. It uses the results of continuous monitoring of methane gas concentrations conducted in selected coal mines in North America to assess the effectiveness of existing auxiliary ventilation systems to control methane gas concentrations. The results show that the average quantities of fresh air required to dilute, disperse and remove methane gas concentrations within set levels of one minute varied from 5.43 m3/sec. to 27.97 m3/sec. in the development headings. The average dilution times in the headings studied were less than eight minutes. The calculated dilution efficiencies of the auxiliary ventilation systems in the headings varied from 12% to 139%. These efficiencies ranged from poor to excellent. This implies that the auxiliary ventilation systems were capable of controlling the methane gas concentrations below statutory levels but may not be able to cope with large and unusual methane gas concentrations in the headings. This study is significant in the control of methane gas and coal dust explosions in coal mines.

"The Mazowe Gold Mine is managed by Metallon Gold (Zimbabwe) and is situated in the west-central part of the Harare greenstone belt. Orebodies here generally comprise shear zones which are in-filled with gold-bearing sulphides and quartz. The mineralised zones are up to 1 m in width, have average grades of 4 to 5 g/t, and mostly dip between 10º and 60º to the north.Mazowe Mine is one of the oldest mines in Zimbabwe, and exploration and development in this region dates back to 1890, with over 1.4 million ounces of gold produced to date. Mazowe mine comprises two underground operations, Mazowe and the BSV sections. Ore is processed in a single plant which consists of conventional crushing and milling and carbon-in-leach facility.Baldmin Projects was awarded the contract for the design, construction and commissioning of the 60,000 tonnes per month plant at Mazowe mine in 2014 for the processing of sand and slimes tailings from previous operations at Mazowe mine. The average grade of the tailings is 1.1 g/t. The plant consists of feed preparation, grinding, flotation, thickening of flotation concentrate, and carbon in leach (CIL). A pump station for hydraulic mining of the slimes tailings dam also part of the plant.Key features of the Mazowe sands Plant are described and include:• Hydraulic mining of gold tailings dump.• Feed preparation section that includes a (W x L) 2.4 m wide x 4.8 m trash screen, 250 m3 surge tank, a cluster cyclones with 2 x 500 mm diam. Cyclone.• Comminution circuit designed for a bond work index range of 10-12 kwh/tonne. comminution circuit is constituted with 3 ball mills, 1.83 m diam. X 6.71 m Long, 280 kW.• Flotation circuit comprising rougher bank, scavenger bank and cleaner bank. Rougher Scavenger bank is constituted of 6 x 6m3 flotation cells and 3 x 30 m3 flotation cells and the cleaner is constituted of 3 x 6 m3 flotation cells.• Concentrate Thickening with 6 m diam. Thickener.• Concentrate CIL (carbon in leaching): CIL circuit is comprised of 7 tanks with 2 leach tanks and 5 Carbon in leach."

Controlling the level of impurities in copper refinery electrolytes is essential to achieving acceptable cathode purity. Purge of electrolyte is not an entirely satisfactory solution since the cost of neutralization, waste disposal, and replacement acid can be appreciable. The APU® process utilizes ion exchange resin to sorb sulphuric acid while rejecting metal salt impurities. Extensively employed for recovery of waste pickling and anodizing acids since 1977, the system is now being used at several refineries for removal of contaminants such as antimony, bismuth, iron, and nickel. The purified acid, which is recovered from the resin by water elution, is recycled back to the refinery tank-house, while the metals are typically recovered from the de-acidified by-product solution by precipitation.

"Gold-bearing mineralization at Anomaly A occurs in polydeformed Ordovician turbidites of the Kendall Mountain Formation of the St. Croix belt in southwestern New Brunswick, and is hosted by WSWtrending, shallow-dipping, brittle-ductile high-strain zones associated with the latest stage of the second of four regional deformation events. Gold-bearing syn-deformational stockwork, massive, and multiply brecciated quartz-sulfide veined zones form irregular pods and sheets up to several meters thick, which contain arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, stibnite, and a variety of rare minerals that are gold-bearing. Mineralized zones are enveloped by locally auriferous, weakly to intensely altered wall rock. Vein paragenesis includes: (1) early (pre- to syn-D2) quartz-chlorite veins that are largely the product of migration of quartz by pressure solution; (2) crosscutting, multiphase, vuggy quartz-sulfide veins that contain most of the gold and are interpreted to be structurally controlled; (3) late, crosscutting, nondeformed, non-gold-bearing veins containing laumontite, chlorite, muscovite, quartz, fluorite, and base metal sulfides. Carbonate-poor alteration associated with zones of gold mineralization is lithology-specific, and appears to reflect overprinting of multiple events. Major elements removed during alteration include Si, Na, Mn, and Mg. The minor and trace elements removed include Co, Li, Sc, and possibly Sr, Ni, and Zn. Minor and trace elements added include Au, Ag, As, Sb, S, and possibly F, Cu, Pb, and Zr. On the basis of proximity, time constraints, and a similar ore mineral assemblage, gold mineralization at Anomaly A is interpreted to be a distal equivalent of the intrusion-related gold mineralization at the nearby Clarence Stream Main zone deposit. Porous and permeable rocks deeply buried in sedimentary basins contain immense volumes of hot water with the potential to supply low-grade heat energy. A part of Canada with sizeable potential for low-grade geothermal energy is the northern Williston Basin of southern Saskatchewan. In this region, the University of Regina has conducted a geological study investigating the feasibility of producing large quantities of warm water suitable for space heating in the Regina - Moose Jaw area. The study has shown that the most favourable geothermal reservoirs are in the Basal Clastic Unit (Cambrian Ordovician), which, at an approximate depth of 2,000 metres has predicted temperatures of 71°C to 74°C. We anticipate sustainable flow rates from these reservoirs of 100 to 300 ms/hr. The water contains about 150,000ppm of total dissolved solids, mostly sodium chloride. It is anticipated that the sulphate content will be 3,000 to 6,000 ppm, that the dissolved oxygen and hydrogen sulphide content will be small, and that the waters will be neutral to slightly alkaline. It is anticipated that the piezometric level will be 46 m below the ground surface for reservoirs in the upper part of the Basal Clastic Unit and 141m below the ground surface for the lower reservoirs of the unit. Plans are to build a low-grade geothermal research, testing and demonstration facility at the University of Regina. To be a practical demonstration, the facility will have to handle very large volumes of water. Because of high salinity, the water will be re injected into a subsurface reservoir. We do not anticipate insurmountable problems because of salinities or as a result of corrosion provided that the waters are not aerated during handling

"The study evaluated the impact on overall circuit metallurgy of improving the performance of the two flotation columns that make up the final Mo cleaning stage in the Cu/Mo separation circuit at Highland Valley Copper mine. The results showed that a key factor to improve the overall circuit metallurgy was to control the size of the bubbles generated in the columns. When a large proportion of small (< 1 mm) bubbles were generated, the production rate of solids-in-concentrate increased by a factor of 4-5 compared to typical production figures without compromising concentrate quality. This increase in concentrate production rate reduced the circulating load in the circuit causing a significant increase of Mo recovery. A statistical analysis of historical production data showed a strong relationship between final concentrate production rate and overall Mo recovery. This relationship along with the results from this study indicated an opportunity to increase the recovery of Mo from 90% (typical) to 94% without downgrading concentrate grade. This 4% increase represents about 14,000 lbs or $500,000 worth of Mo each month at current metal prices.To provide a rational interpretation of the results, this study also examined whether the model of Gorain et al. (1997; 1998; 1999) could explain the increase of Mo recovery seemingly resulting from the decrease of bubble size. The data showed that the model predictions did not agree with the experimental data, i.e., for a given change (decrease) of bubble size, the predictions underestimated significantly the observed recovery increase. An interpretation based on the fundamental analysis of Finch and Dobby (1990) and Hernandez-Aguilar et al. (2005) is proposed to explain the discrepancy between measurements and predictions obtained from Gorain et al.’s model.INTRODUCTIONIt is generally accepted that the size of the bubbles generated in a flotation cell – a concept usually referred to as “bubble size” – has a significant effect on metallurgical performance. However, a significant number of mineral processing practitioners often question, with valid reasons, the practical benefits of implementing process improvement strategies based on controlling bubble size. “Small” bubbles are often considered to be “favourable”, but how small they need to be for a particular case, or how to adjust operating conditions to control a target bubble size, or whether the bubbles need to be smaller in the first place are questions that usually remain unanswered. This paper describes the use of dynamic scheduling and discrete event control to provide coordinated control of multiple automated vehicles. In the past decade there have been significant advances in the field of robotics for underground mining. As this trend progresses toward a realization of a completely automated underground mine the need for a central control system, capable of providing coordination for multiple vehicles in a semistructured environment, becomes more evident. In the past year general research into multi-robot coordination has been applied to the underground mining scenario and demonstrated in a scaled model underground mine in a laboratory setting. This system shows significant potential to be adopted into a full-scale implementation for mine wide automation.

"Historically, performance at Vale’s Clarabelle Mill was measured by Mill throughput and Mill recovery. After the economic collapse in 2008, a series of reviews were performed to drive improvements in business efficiency. These identified that product quality (e.g., concentrate grade, variability in concentrate grade) had a profound impact on downstream processes and suggested that improved control of these parameters would generate the greatest value for the customer (the Copper Cliff Smelter) and the company (Vale). Consequently, a movement was initiated to transform the Mill operating philosophy to consider customer needs as paramount. Systems and strategies used to drive the transformation are described. In 2011, an unexpected furnace failure resulted in decreased capacity at the Copper Cliff Smelter. In response, a two-stage change in production strategy was developed at Clarabelle. The first stage was to modify the ore blend feeding Clarabelle so that the concentrate grade could be significantly increased with minimal impact on recovery. The second stage was a circuit modification to ensure the elevated concentrate grade could be sustained. Execution of the first stage was complete five days after the failure and the second stage was complete within 10 weeks. Steps involved in each stage are outlined and the overall benefits are presented.INTRODUCTION Clarabelle Mill is located in Copper Cliff, Ontario, Canada (approximately 350 km north of Toronto). The Mill treats copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni) sulphide ores. The primary diluents are pyrrhotite (Po) and non sulphide gangue rock (Rk). The process description of the circuits at Clarabelle is documented in the paper by Taylor, Doucet, Blanchette, Barrette & Lawson (2012) in this Proceedings and will not be repeated. The Mill treats ore containing Cu, Ni and platinum group elements (PGE’s) and produces two concentrates; a Cu concentrate and a bulk Cu/ Ni Concentrate (referred to as nickel concentrate). The Cu concentrate is sold to market while the Ni concentrate is thickened at the Mill and pumped to Vale’s smelter complex in Copper Cliff Ontario for further processing. Since commissioning in 1971, Clarabelle Mill has undergone many circuit changes to suit the changing needs and wants of our customers, both internal and external. The Mill processes ores of varying quality, based on mineralogy and size and until 2009 the Mill daily performance was primarily based on throughput. The second key performance indicator (KPI) of “good” or “bad” performance was quality of the concentrate and third; Mill metal recoveries. There were other plant level KPIs such as flotation feed grind size, slurry densities and mass flows to the separation circuit, but for the most part each day was good or bad depending on how many tons were processed through the Mill."

"Suncor Energy’s Project Millennium increased oilsands production capacity by an additional 95,000 barrels per day to its present level of 225,000 barrels per day. This massive venture included an expanded Mine, new Extraction and Upgrading facilities, as well as, steam and utilities infrastructuresIn the Primary Extraction process, removal of the bitumen from the oil sand begins with slurry preparation and is followed by primary , secondary and tertiary separation processes. The final cleaning step of the bitumen froth is the Secondary Extraction process, that removes residual water, mineral and solids to produce a clean diluted bitumen suitable for Upgrader feedstock.This paper will review the flowsheet of the Millennium Primary Extraction facility, from its recent commissioning through the ramp up to design production rates. In addition, new technologies in the Primary Extraction flowsheet will be reviewed.INTRODUCTIONAs conventional supplies of oil and gas are depleted in Canada, the Athabasca oil sands industry of Alberta becomes an increasingly important source of energy. Today, high quality crude from Alberta’s oil sands accounts for roughly 30% of Canada’s daily petroleum production. According to government projections, over the next 7 years, oil sands production is expected to more then double, and by 2010 more than half of Canada’s crude oil is expected to come from the oil sands.Oil sands deposits consist of a layer of sand saturated with bitumen covered by a muskeg overburden and underlain by silt and clay. The oil sand is mined where the overburden is economical to remove, typically less than thirty meters thick. The Athabasca oil sand deposits around Fort McMurrray is ideal for mining. Bitumen can be described as a diverse collection of hydrocarbons, organosulfur, and nitrogen compounds."

Surfaces forces have been measured between gold sphere and gold-coated glass plate in xanthate solutions using an atomic force microscope (AFM). The measurements conducted in potassium amyl xanthate (PAX) and potassium ethyl xanthate (KEX) solutions showed long-range hydrophobic forces, with the force curves showing no evidence for nanonubbles on the surface. The strongest hydrophobic force was measured at contact angle of 94° with a decay length of 23 nm. The hydrophobic force became weaker at higher concentrations and after a long immersion time, which may be attributed to the xanthate species adsorbed on top of the first mono layer. The hydrophobic force became stronger when the residual xanthate solution is displaced by pure water, indicating that hydrophobic force becomes the strongest in pure water.

"Changing ore types, feed grades and c1rculat1ng loads are some of the many factors that can make flotation feed-back control difficult. To control a flotation circuit using conventional fixed-parameter control algorithms, one must either tune the controllers very often or tune the controllers to the middle of the normal operating range. The former approach is very time consuming, while the latter approach can lead to long periods of either very sluggish responses or highly reactive responses which can lead to instability. The problem becomes compounded if feed-forward variables are introduced, creating even more variables to tune. An alternative to a fixed-parameter control algorithm is an adaptive control algorithm. An adaptive control algorithm continuously retunes itself based on previous reactions to its changes. Feed-forward control also becomes much more viable because the algorithm will tune the feed-forward parameters and the feed-back parameters simultaneously. Using the combination of feed-forward and feed-back tuning is an effective way to decouple the loops needed in flotation circuits where one circuit feeds into another. The advantages of adaptive controllers over conventional controllers will be introduced through the use of a simulator. Also discussed will the be the implementation of adaptive controllers at Brunswick Mining and some of the modifications that are available to help solve more difficult control problems.Brunswick Mining is located just outside of Bathurst, New Brunswick. The concentrator processes approximately 10250 tonnes per day of ore that assays at approximately 8.9 %zn, 3.6 %Pb, 0.3 r.cu and I 00 gram/tonne of Ag. The four products produced are zinc concentrate assaying 51 %Zn, lead concentrate assaying 34 %Pb, copper concentrate assaying 21 %Cu, and a bulk concentrate assaying 32 %Zn and 18 %Pb."

"The Key Lake uranium mill is located in Northern Saskatchewan. It treats a high grade, complex uranium and metal sulphide ore. The plant and process are in many respects unique, because commercial treatment of this type of uranium ore had never been done before. The process and engineering design was based on extensive laboratory test results. A pilot plant testing stage was omitted because of confidence in the test results and time constraints to bring the plant into production.The bench scale testwork on exploration drill core samples along with preparation of the feasibility study and environmental impact statement were carried out between 1976 and 1979. The contract for detailed engineering was awarded to Wright Engineers of Vancouver in late 1980 and in August of 1981 following a public inquiry, approval to proceed with construction was granted.Construction began immediately, and during the winter the foundations for many of the plant buildings were poured and by the beginning of the following winter the buildings had been erected and installation of equipment began. Despite a six month construction worker strike in 1982, the crushing plant started up in June of 1983 and ore processing commenced in October of that year, approximately 3 months behind the original schedule.This paper describes the mill design and compares the expected performance, with the operating experience. Emphasis is directed towards flowsheet and equipment changes made since start-up, operational difficulties encountered and further improvements envisaged. Auxiliary systems are only discussed where they directly affect mill operation."

"Lakeshore Gold’s Bell Creek Mill is located in Timmins, Ontario. The mill has been in operation since 2009 and has undergone several small expansions since then. In 2012 - 2013 the first major mill expansion was commissioned raising the mill capacity from 2,000tpd to 3,150tpd. This was done through the installation of a new ROM ore truck dumping facility, jaw crusher, ore storage dome, SAG mill, leach tank, CIL tank, and electrowinning cell. This paper will cover the equipment installed to raise the tonnage as well as the commissioning of the new equipment including problems encountered and how these problems were solved.IntroductionLake Shore Gold acquired the Bell Creek Mill, along with the Bell Creek Mine, from the Porcupine Gold Mines Joint Venture, a joint venture between Goldcorp Canada Ltd. and Kinross Gold Corporation, in December 2007.The Bell Creek mill, which processed ore from the Bell Creek Mine has consistently achieved recoveries of over 95%, is a conventional gold mill circuit, involving crushing and two stage ball mill grinding, gravity and leaching, followed by Carbon-In-Pulp (CIP) process for gold recovery. The facility had been placed on care and maintenance in 2002. At the beginning of 2009, the mill had been refurbished with an initial capacity of 800 tonnes per day and was subsequently refurbished to a capacity of 1,500 tonnes per day near the end of the third quarter of that year. The Mill was then expanded in 2010 to a capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day.In late 2011, the Company commenced a 50% expansion of its milling facility, from a processing capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day to 3,150 tonnes per day. Phase 1 of the expansion, which mainly involved enhancements to the solution circuit (“back end”) and increased the mill’s capacity to 2,500 tonnes per day, was completed at the end of 2012. Commissioning of Phase 2 of the expansion, to a capacity of 3,150 tonnes per day, commenced at the end of July 2013."

"Throughout the Paleozoic, a variety of gold depositional environments were created in the New Brunswick segment of the northern Appalachians because of the complexity of arc and continental plate collisions and subsequent erosion of the orogen. In southwestern New Brunswick, recent exploration and research has focused on deposits and occurrences that can be broadly classified as intrusion-related, generated by late- to post-orogenic felsic to intermediate plutonic rocks emplaced during the Early to Middle Devonian. This work has led to the establishment of models for gold mineralization and guidelines for exploration in this area, which might also be applicable elsewhere in the southern part of the province and, perhaps, throughout the northern Appalachians. The deposits in the vicinity of Clarence Stream in southwestern New Brunswick exemplify this deposit type, and highlight the emergence of a possible major gold district in the region. Durant le Paléozoïque, une grande variété d’environnements aurifères ont été créés dans le segment néo-brunswickois des Appalaches du nord en raison de la complexité des collisions entre arcs et plaques continentales ainsi que durant l’érosion subséquente de l’orogène. Dans le sud-ouest du Nouveau Brunswick, les travaux d’exploration et de recherche récents se sont tournés vers les gisements et les indices appartenant à la classe des gîtes associés aux intrusions, générés par des roches plutoniques felsiques à intermédiaires tardi- à post-orogéniques mises en place au Dévonien précoce à moyen. Ces travaux ont permis d’établir des modèles de mise en place pour la minéralisation aurifère ainsi que des guides d’exploration pour ce secteur, lesquels pourraient aussi être appliqués ailleurs dans le sud de la province et, possiblement, dans l’ensemble des Appalaches du nord. Les gîtes aux environs de Clarence Stream dans le sud-ouest du Nouveau Brunswick sont un exemple de ce type de gisement, mettant en valeur ce qui pourrait devenir un district aurifère majeur dans la région."

"The Dumont deposit is a large (1,179 Mt proven and probable reserve) low grade (0.27% nickel), nickel sulphide project located in the Abitibi region 25km west of Amos, Quebec. Royal Nickel Corporation acquired the project in 2007 and has since taken the project from a scoping study in 2010 through to completing the feasibility study in July 2013.The Dumont deposit in a nickel deposit with the recoverable nickel contained in three minerals; pentlandite, haezlewoodite and awaruite. The minerals are recovered by a combination of flotation and magnetic separation. Over the course of the studies many flowsheet design decisions and changes were made. This paper outlines an overview of the project, flowsheet design including the comminution circuit, desliming and awaruite recovery. The overall resulting flowsheet that was used for the feasibility study is then presented along with the confirmatory locked cycle testing that showed the feasibility design basis was able to produce the predicted concentrate grade and recovery.IntroductionRoyal Nickel Corporation (RNC) is a mineral resource company headquartered in Toronto, Canada, primarily focused on the exploration, evaluation, development and acquisition of base metal and platinum group metal properties.
