The Federal Government's White Paper on Tax Reform received further major criticism in the reports of the Committees of the House of Commons and the Senate, which recently completed a lengthy review including public hearings of the government's proposals. These reports both criticized the emphasis placed by the White Paper on its concept of tax equity rather than on a system which would promote economic growth. However, the Finance Committee of the House of Commons was prepared to accept, with modifications, a number of the White Paper's key reform proposals. The Senate Finance Committee was more critical of the basic thrust of the tax reform program and recommended that a modification of the existing tax system would be more appropriate to Canada's needs. Both Committees re-commended a more favourable treatment of mining income than that originally proposed in the White Paper, and to some extent both Committees suggested proposals that were even more favourable to the industry than those set out in Finance Minister Benson's amended proposals made in August of this year. This article out-lines the principal recommendations and comments in the reports of both the House of Commons Committee and the Senate Finance Committee.

Biooxidation of a high arsenic-bearing refractory gold ore was investigated to determine the arsenic removal efficiency by the cultured bacteria and to examine the effect of biological pretreatment on subsequent gold cyanidation. The biooxidation pretreatment process utilizes the ability of adapted acidophilic bacteria to oxidize pyrite and arsenopyrite and release the encapsulated gold. The released gold can be efficiently extracted by the subsequent cyanidation process. The biooxidation experiments were conducted with cultured bacteria using various sizes of agitation tanks. Leaching results showed that over 96.26 % arsenic extraction could be obtained from this ore after 6 days of bioleaching with continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). Gold extraction during the cyanidation process was increased from 29.35% to 96.71% after biological pretreatment. The content of arsenic in the biooxidation residue was reduced to below 0.3%. The original analogue instrumentation at Lornex Mining Corporation to optimize the throughput by controlling the power drawn by the semi-autogenous mills was found to be inadequate because of the frequent changes in ore type. Although the trunnion bearing pressure of the mill was a crucial control criterion, it was not utilized in the original control scheme. After several plant tests of different types of analogue controllers were unsuccessful in finding any control equipment suitable for this application, it was concluded that a digital process control computer was required. Computer control strategy to optimize the grinding rate by controlling the power and the bearing pressure of the semi-autogenous mill was developed and a Fox 2 /30 computer made by Foxboro was selected. After six months of experimentation, it was found that the throughput was increased substantially by computer control.

L'affinage des grains dans les alliages d'aluminium consiste à augmenter le nombre de sites de cristallisation de la phase a-Al afin d'obtenir une structure fine. Les alliages mères de type Al-Ti-B sont largement utilisés comme raffineurs des grains. Cette étude a pour but d'établir des mécanismes convenables d'affinage des grains dans l'alliage A356 en utilisant cinq alliages mères et deux températures de coulée (750°C et 950°C). Les résultats montrent que la phase a-Al prend une forme selon l'alliage mère ajoute; les échantillons coules a haute température montrent une taille de grain plus grosse; les températures de germination et de croissance augmentent avec I' augmentation du Ti ou du B et la taille des grains diminue. L'alliage mère Al-4%B montre une puissance remarquable en comparaison d'autres alliages mères. Pour cet alliage mère, le titane résiduel dans l'alliage A356 réagit avec le bore pour former TiB2 qui, par la suite, agit comme un germe actif pour la phase a-Al.

IN REGENT YEARS, blast furnace operators have found it necessary to improve their technology in order to handle increasingly low-grade feed and yet satisfy the demands for greater tonnages of metal. Studies have been made covering several aspects of the problem, and in this connection the slags produced in the iron-making process have been critically examined with a view to discovering the slag with the optimum properties for a given operation. A good slag should combine, as far as possible, the properties listed in Table I. Unfortunately, some of these desirable properties are incompatible. For example, the advantage of the small ?bulk of a low-flux slag is offset by its low desulphurization potential and high viscosity. Similarly, a very fluid slag increases refractory wear. It will be seen, then, that a balance must he struck between these conflicting requirements. In the .present paper only the melting relationships of blast furnace slag ?compositions will be considered in detail. In interpreting the data herein presented, the optimum property requirements listed in Table 1 must strictly be borne in mind. It should also be noted that the discussion presented here always relates to calcined fluxes, since this facilitates reference to the final slag composition. Thus, in making calculations pertaining to the ?burdening of the furnace, due allowance should ?be made for the fact that the fluxes are added as carbonates.

Feed level and thickness measurements are essential in the optimization of an electric arc furnace. A precise measurement of the feed thickness and level gives operators the ability to increase the smelter efficiency and reduce the maintenance cost. Hatch has developed a radar system which is an affordable, low maintenance, and accurate level measurement system. The radar units can be installed across the furnace to measure the feed level and the feed thickness can be calculated with one slag level sounding. The present paper describes the development of radar systems as a process optimizing tool by furnace controls. The authors will discuss the challenges involved in installing eight radar units on the roof of a six-in-line electric furnace.

Anisotropic minerals are important constituents of many ores. This group includes both valuable minerals (e.g., molybdenite in Cu-Mo ores) as well as gangue minerals (e.g., talc in platinumbearing sulphide ores in South Africa, graphite in Cu-Ni sulphide ores in Canada, chrysotile in Ni sulphide ores in Australia, and clay minerals in all types of ores). Aqueous suspensions of anisotropic minerals exhibit different properties than suspensions of isotropic minerals. The presence of anisotropic minerals in flotation circuits affects the flotation process.

"Mine hoists are built to handle a certain nameplate capacity; they are specified and designed according to the required duty. However, as production capacity increases in other parts of an operation, the hoist capacity can become the critical constraint. Such a situation occurred at Lundin Mining’s Neves-Corvo operation. This paper examines how each component of the existing hoisting system was examined and optimized. Through a combination of engineering study and hoist simulations, the annual hoisting capacity was improved by 24% through increases in payload capacity and available hoisting time combined with a reduction in cycle time, while no changes were made to the hoist motor, drum or headframe. The additional payload capacity was achieved by reducing the mass of the hoist ropes and skips, and improving load monitoring systems. The cycle time was reduced through the shortening of the creep distances and increased availability through the installation of a shaft collar safety platform, alternative guide rope bushes, and superior liners for both the skips and underground measuring flasks. Enhanced cooling of the hoist electrical system was also incorporated to increase hoist availability by reducing downtime during hot summer months. The changes will increase the capacity from the current 4.5 mega tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to a planned 5.6 Mtpa and are being implemented over a 2-year period whilst maintaining the mine production during the upgrade work. INTRODUCTION Neves-Corvo Mine Neves-Corvo is primarily a copper and zinc mine producing copper, zinc and lead concentrates. The operation is owned and operated by Somincor, the Portuguese subsidiary of Lundin Mining. Located in the Alentejo district of southern Portugal, the operation is situated approximately 15 km southeast of the town of Castro Verde, where summer temperatures can reach as high as 45ºC, and approximately 220 km southeast of Lisbon. The principal means of mine access is via a ramp from surface, with the vertical shaft used to hoist ore and waste from the 700 m level, while conveyors descend from the 700 m level to transport ore and waste up from the deeper levels of the mine. The mine is highly mechanized and several different stoping methods are employed, with the most significant being bench-and-fill and drift-and-fill. The Neves-Corvo mine currently exploits five orebodies: Neves, Corvo, Graça, Zambujal and Lombador for copper and zinc-lead ores which are processed in one of two plants. All the orebodies are currently exploited over their full elevation with the exception of Lombador which is only mined down to the 220 m level, approximately the top 50% of the orebody, known as Lombador Phase 1."

THE Mackenzie River Valley proper extends from Great Slave lake to the Arctic ocean (see map, Figure 1). From Fort Providence, near Great Slave lake, to Aklavik, near the Arctic coast, the distance by river is 1,000 miles. This will give some idea of the extent of the region. Throughout the length of the river valley, the Precambrian complex rocks are overlain by unaltered sedimentary rocks several thousand feet in thickness. These sediments are dominantly marine and Palaeozoic in age. In places, the Palaeozoic strata are overlain unconformable by Cretaceous an Tertiary sediments. The strata have been folded and, in general, the inclination of the beds to the horizontal is comparatively gentle. Here, then, we have the essentials for potential oil fields covering an area over 1,000 miles in length. This is probably the largest comparatively unexplored potential petroleum region in North America, and surface evidences of oil in the form of seepages occur in several places. Many of these seeps were known to the early explorers, and the first Geological Survey report on the Mackenzie River region, containing the results of field work carried out by R. G. McConnell in 1887-88, noted the petroliferous character of the Devonian strata and the indications of petroleum(l). This region is, however, handicapped by distance from markets and sources of supply of materials; by lack of modern transport facilities; by short season for river transport, and mountainous country separating the valley from the Pacific seaboard; and by the long winter season with weather that makes outdoor work difficult. These factors have tended to discourage the enthusiasm of would-be promoters, and so development in this region has been slow In 1920, a test well drilled about fifty miles northwest of Fort Norman discovered oil in commercial quantity, and three additional wells proved a small area to be productive.

Originally developed as a step change in ultrafine grinding efficiency, the IsaMill? has made inroads into conventional ball mill and tower mill mainstream grinding duties during the last 5 years - beginning with the Anglo Platinum mainstream grinding projects in South Africa. At the 2006 SAG Conference, plant testwork on the incorporation of IsaMill? technology into the McArthur River (Northern Territory, Australia) Pb/Zn primary grinding circuit was reported. The IsaMill? has now become an integral component of that circuit, treating up to 1mm top size feed and directly producing P80 45 µm rougher flotation feed. Two 1.1 MW IsaMills? are now used in this duty contributing to a 27% increase in overall plant throughput and a reduction in rougher feed size distribution. In this paper, we report on the current state of development and performance of the IsaMill? in the primary grinding duty at McArthur River and also consider future directions.

During the last decade Antofagasta Minerals? Los Pelambres Mine has dramatically increased its ore throughput following the fast initial phase ramp up through a series of planned incremental expansions. The original 85,000 mtpd, two SAG line plant was commissioned in 1999 and rapidly exceeded nameplate tonnage in only a few months. Following this, the inclusion of a pebble crushing circuit resulted in throughputs in excess of 114,000 mtpd and a recent, final third line SAG and ball mill addition have taken the plant to over 175,000 mtpd even with increasing ore hardness and changing ore feed characteristics. The progressive changes are described in this paper together with how the technical challenges have been met.

"Compound casting is a very attractive approach to reduce the weight of components for some specific applications while keep both the functional and the mechanical property requirements. In this work, Al-7Si-Mg alloy /copper compound castings were produced through a low pressure die casting process. To reduce the oxide present in the interface, flux coating of the copper pipes was tested. The interface layer formed between the two alloys was investigated using Optical Microscopy (OM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS). Vickers Micro-hardness was also measured across the interface. Results showed that the flux coating prevented the formation of the metallic bond between copper and aluminum. Instead, high concentrations of potassium, magnesium and fluoride, coinciding with formation of KMgF3 and MgF2, were detected in the interface. In the castings without surface treatment, a continuous metallurgical bond was achieved. In the bond layer, various Al-Cu intermetallic phases have been detected. In addition, formation of primary silicon particles in the reaction layer was observed in all castings. The mechanism for the formation of the intermetallic phases and the strength of the interface layer have been discussed.INTRODUCTION Recent development in the automotive industry has focused on producing lightweight components, which can reduce CO2 emission and increase the efficiency. Often, one material alone is not able to meet the requirements for a specific use. The need for lightweight bimetallic components has therefore increased. Aluminum-copper bimetallic components can be used in wires and bus bars where conductivity is an important factor (Lee, Bang, & Jung, 2005). Compared to Al-Cu alloys, Al-Cu bimetallic components can reduce both weight and cost without reducing electrical and thermal conductivity (Sheng, Yang, Xi, Lai, & Ye, 2011). A challenge is, however, that aluminum and copper have high affinity to each other, especially at elevated temperatures. This causes formation of brittle intermetallic phases with high electric resistance (Liu, Wang, Sui, Wang, & Wenjiang, 2016). In addition, both metals are subjected to oxide formation on the surface. Copper is especially exposed to oxidation at elevated temperatures (Pinnel, Tompkins, & Heath, 1979), while a thermodynamically stable oxide layer will spontaneously form on the aluminum surface (Papis, Loeffler, & Uggowitzer, 2009). Oxides are known to be passive substrates, which will reduce wettability and will thus prevent the formation of metallic bonding between aluminum and copper (Papis, Hallstedt, Löffler, & Uggowitzer, 2008)."

"Dialkyl dithiophosphinates are a unique class of collectors used in the flotation processing of Cu- Au, complex polymetallic, and precious metal ores. They are known to exhibit higher selectivity and flotation rates for Cu sulfides, galena, and precious metal values in the presence of other gangue sulfides, than the traditionally used collectors such as dialkyl dithiophosphates and xanthates. They also have an attractive HSE profile. Historically, for most reagents used in flotation, practical methods of chemical usage have preceded detailed scientific understanding of how they work; this applies also to dithiophosphinates. Recently, however, the research community has shown significant interest in this chemistry, and numerous studies have been conducted to understand the fundamentals of interactions of dithiophosphinates with several base metal sulfides and precious metals. A critical overview of fundamental studies, laboratory ore flotation, and plant practice of dithiophosphinates is given in this paper. The findings from these studies are rationalized by drawing on concepts and insights from coordination chemistry. A comparison between the interactions of dithiophosphinates and dithiophosphate analogues with various minerals and metals is also made throughout. We believe that such a critical analysis/overview will be invaluable in identifying gaps in knowledge regarding this important set of compounds, which in turn may provide a basis for the design of studies that can advance understanding of their flotation performance. INTRODUCTIONDialkyl dithiophosphinates are an important member of the class of thiophosphorus compounds that are widely used in flotation beneficiation of base metal sulfide and precious metals ores. Ore flotation studies and plant practice experience have demonstrated their unique properties compared to the traditionally used sulfide collectors such as dialkyl dithiophosphates (their closest analogues) and xanthates. The predominant dialkyl dithiophosphinate used in the industry today is sodium diisobutyl dithiophosphinate (a.k.a. DIBDTPi; AEROPHINE® 3418A1 introduced by American Cyanamid in the late 1970s; Figure 1). The widest application of AEROPHINE 3418A is found in complex polymetallic ores of Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag, Pb-Zn-Ag, and Cu-Zn where it has demonstrated improved recoveries (and flotation rates) of sulfide minerals of Cu, Pb and Ag and selectivity against sphalerite, iron sulfides, and penalty elements (Mingione, 1991). More recently, it has also been used as a collector in the processing of Cu, Cu-Ni, and Ni ores (Guitard et al., 2015) and Cu-Au ores (Dunne, 2005). In general, it is considered to possess the collecting power of xanthates together with the selectivity (against pyrite) of dithiophosphates (Hope et al., 2003a, 2003b), while requiring lower dosages than those reagents (Guitard et al., 2015). AEROPHINE® 3418A has also found an important place in several targeted formulations to improve flotation performance. Other benefits of this reagent include higher flotation rates, having a better HSE (health, safety and environmental) profile2 compared to xanthate, and exhibiting resistance to hydrolysis and oxidation (Guitard et al., 2015). Compared to diisobutyl dithiophosphate (DIBDTP), which is known to contribute significantly to frothing (often leading to over-frothing), AEROPHINE® 3418A is observed to be froth neutral (i.e. it does not alter the existing froth characteristics). As is the case for other flotation reagents, the design and application of AEROPHINE® 3418A has preceded understanding of its behavior at a fundamental level. Recently, there have been numerous fundamental and application studies designed to develop a better understanding of its interaction with sulfide minerals and precious metals. Modification of the silicon in Al-Si alloys can be performed by adding a very small amount of some elements like Na, Sr and Ca to alter the form of silicon from an acicular shape to a fine fibrous one. This modification results in a considerable improvement in mechanical properties especially elongation, Metallographic observations in A356 alloy indicated the degree of the modification with Na, Sr and Ca, They showed that the effect of Ca as a modifier is not as strong as is Na or Sr while Na is the most effective modifier, Although modifiers improve mechanical properties, they also increase porosity in castings, The reduced pressure test (RPT) and Tatur test showed that the increasing porosity with Na is the most and with Sr is the least.

"FOLLOWING the Leduc discovery •by Imperial Oil in 1947, The California Standard Company began to acquire land in the area immediately west of Edmonton and in line with the Leduc reef trend (Figure 1).The California Standard Winter-burn Province No. 1 in Lsd. 10, Section 4, Township 53, Range 25, West 4th, which was spudded, on the basis of a seismic anomaly, in December, 1949, failed to find reef. This well was located on the eastern .edge of a large land block which California Standard and Imperial Oil had pooled as a joint venture, with California Standard a:s the operator (Figure 2).The culmination •of an extensive exploration and land aquisition programme was the drilling of the California Standard-Acheson Province No. 1 well .in Lsd. 13, Section 2, Township 53, Range 26, West 4th. On August 24th, 1950, a drill stem test was run in the D-3 zone which had been encountered at 4,969 feet, and a flow rate of 702 barrels per day •of 36° gravity oil was obtained. Just previously, Imperial Oil had completed a similar programme in the Stony Plain Reserve with the swabbing-in of Imperial Stony Plain No. 1. These two discoveries set off a drilling programme to determine the extent and value of the oil accumulation.Subsequent drilling of wells some successful .and others not by several other companies as well as California Standard bias, .to date, still left much to be determined as to the approximate delineation of the productive limits of the Ache-son-Stony Plain area. However, to August 31st, 1951, there were twenty-one D-3 producers north of the reserve and three in the Stony Plain Reserve."

The Wallaroo smelter on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia commenced smelting operations in 1861 treating ores from the nearby Moonta and Kadina mines. The plant expanded and modernized on several occasions and was a leader in the successful introduction of new technology to improve operations. It operated continuously until 1923 when local mines became exhausted; in the closing stages of the 19th century it was the largest copper smelter in the world outside of those in Swansea, Wales. In 1892 a small electrolytic refinery was established at Wallaroo, the first in Australia, based on principles developed by Elkington at Pembrey, Wales in 1869. The Wallaroo refinery was specifically built to recover gold and silver from copper produced by smelting gold-containing feed materials shipped from Western Australia. This first venture into electrolytic refining was replaced in 1903 by a somewhat larger refinery which, although modest in size for its time, with a capacity of about 1000 tonnes of cathode copper per year, was very productive in precious metals. Anode copper was produced by an updated version of the reverberatory-based Welsh process until 1910 when barrel-type pneumatic converters were introduced based on American practice; subsequently, anodes were cast by tapping the precious-metals rich "bottoms" portion of converter copper as produced at about one-fifth into the copper blow. The present paper describes the Wallaroo refinery, its anode supply and products, supported by initial observations on a sample of a Wallaroo cathode held in the collection of the South Australia Museum, Adelaide SA, Australia. INTRODUCTION Australia ranked 6th in the world for copper mine production in 2018, with an output of 918,000 tonnes of mined copper, after Chile, Peru, Congo, China and the USA; about 40% of Australian mined copper was smelted in the country. Interestingly, the world ranking of Australia in mined copper has, with a few variations, remained about the same for more than 100 years – of interest, it was also the 6th largest country for copper production at 21,089 tonnes in 1899. At that time, all or most of the copper was smelted in the country (Mackey, 2016). Copper was first discovered in Australia in 1842 in South Australia not far from Adelaide; additional copper discoveries in the region soon followed. At first, copper ore was shipped to Swansea, Wales for smelting (Bampton, 2003). However, in addition to the long, 150 day one-way sea passage, it seems Welsh smelters preferred higher grade of ores – these aspects and likely a mood in the new colony to be independent of Swansea (Evans, 2014) evidently encouraged local smelting at the mine sites using small, Welsh-type reverberatory furnaces fired with hardwood as fuel and operated by Welsh and Cornish migrants. The first large copper smelter in Australia commenced in 1848 at Bremer, near Callington some 60 km east of Adelaide. With larger discoveries on Yorke Peninsula, the Wallaroo copper smelter at Wallaroo Bay on the west coast of the peninsula commenced operations in 1861 (Bell & McCarthy, 2008). Thus began one of the most successful, and in its day, one of the most advanced and innovative plants in Australia if not the world. In the late 1860s, it was considered one of the largest copper smelters in the world (Bell & McCarthy, 2008)

The AG/SAG circuit discharge P80 is now increasingly referred to as the ?Transfer Size? or T80 for short. From the literature it is apparent that in circuit design some approaches to the sizing of AG/SAG mills as well as the ball mills that they feed use this parameter. This paper reviews whether the use of the T80 is appropriate in this context. In the course of the review examples of AG/SAG discharge size distributions measured from range of operating circuits are used to illustrate the arguments made.

"Conventional belt conveyors offer an economical method for transporting materials at inclines approaching 18 degrees. Sandwich belt conveyors may be used to transport materials at high angles, to 90 degrees, while maintaining the most positive features of conventional conveyors, that is, (1) proven conventional conveyor components. (2) high-speed operation, (3) high-single lifts, (4) continuous cleaning of the smooth surf aced belts, and (5) easy, quick repair by hot or cold vulcanizing. The present discussion deals with the evolution and development of sandwich belt conveyors to satisfy the operational requirements of the open-pit mining and materials-handling industries.A look at the limitation s of conventional shallow angle conveyors reveals the conveying angle at which a cover belt is needed. The relationship between conveying angle and hugging pressure by the cover belt is developed mathematically. A study of past and current developments reveals that the Loop Belt and Beltavator are significant advances in the state-of -the- art. The vertical radius of curvature constraints are discussed in detail and the constraint equations are developed. Criteria for future development is established as a basis for evolutionary developments in sandwich belt high-angle conveyors. The use of intermediate drives in sandwich belt high-angle conveyors is investigated.IntroductionIn connection with U.S. Bureau of Mines funded–study relating to continuous haulage from deep open-pit mines, the authors had occasion to study extensively, the use of high-angle conveyors as a means of hauling mine products continuously from the pit while maintaining optimum mine slopes to minimize total excavation. The many possible high-angle conveying methods investigated included skip hoists, bucket ladders, pocket belts, fin belts, cleated belts, sandwich belts, pipe belts, screw conveyors, slurry pipe lines, and others. The sandwich belt high-angle conveyor appeared to be the most operationally-appropriate and economical solution for the mining industry. The present paper presents the theory, historical development, state-of-the-art, and evolutionary developments in sandwich belt high-angle conveyors."

Increasing depths of mining coupled with the mechanization of most underground mining operations have led to growing complexities in the mine environments with the production of large amounts of gaseous and particulate contaminants. Over 100,000 lives have been lost due methane gas and dust explosions in coal mine workings in both the US and Canada since 1900 when the methane concentrations exceeded stipulated levels in some workings. There is therefore the need to constantly assess and evaluate the performance of the existing mine ventilation systems to maintain safe and acceptable mine environmental conditions in workings to meet the requirements of federal, state or provincial laws. This paper uses the results of continuous monitoring of methane concentrations conducted in selected development headings in coal mines in North America to assess the effectiveness of existing auxiliary ventilation systems in the control of methane gas concentrations in the headings. The results show that the average quantities of fresh air required to dilute, disperse and remove methane concentrations within set levels of one minute varied from 5.43 m3/s in Heading #11 (Condition 2) to 27.97 m3/s in Heading #10 (Condition 1) and this represented about 12 to 26% of the quantities required to dilute methane concentrations to safe levels within one minute under Condition 1 and 32 to 139% under Condition 2. The average dilution times in the headings studied were less than 8 minutes. The forcing efficiencies of the auxiliary systems in the headings studied ranged from poor to excellent implying that the auxiliary ventilation systems were capable of controlling the methane concentrations below statutory levels but may not be able to cope with large and unusual methane concentrations in the headings. This study is important to prevent methane gas and coal dust explosions in coal mines and thus avoid any loss of lives and property.

As the nickel sulfide ore deposits become decreasingly viable as a source of nickel metal, increasing attention is being paid to the exploitation of the nickeliferous laterite ores. Attempts to produce a high grade ferronickel concentrate from these ores by pyrometallurgical methods face several challenges, in particular the selective recovery of the highly disseminated nickel from the reduced ore. The current work explores strategies for maximizing the size of ferronickel particles formed in order to improve the selective recovery of the ferronickel by magnetic separation. The effect of various coal, elemental sulphur, pyrite and sodium sulphate additions on ferronickel particle formation and size at 1000°C have been investigated. It has been observed that increased coal additions leads to a moderate improvement in the size of the ferronickel particles, while the presence of any sulphur bearing reagent leads to a significant increase in particle size. The retention of sulphur in the reduced material has also been studied, showing sodium sulphate has the highest retention, followed by pyrite and then elemental sulphur. An inverse trend was observed in the efficiency of sulphur retention on the basis of residual mass of sulphur per unit mass of reagent added.
