Drilling exploration over the Wesizwe Platinum Limited?s Pilanesberg Project has identified the Merensky Reef at depths varying from 594 m to 1 552 m depth. Merensky Reef thickness varies from 0.05 m to 3.63 m and contains PGE(4) mineralization above a cut-off grade of 1.0 g/t over intersection widths of 0.95 m to 2.63 m. Four distinct facies types have been identified over the property, viz.1) Normal Merensky Reef, generally 1.2 m thick, bounded by thin top and basal chromitite layers and composed of upper feldspathic pyroxenite and lower feldspathic olivine pegmatoids containing base metal sulphide mineralization overlying poikilitic anorthosites. 2) Single chromitite Merensky Reef, generally0.15 m thick and usually devoid of internal silicate material, overlying variable stratigraphy containing significant base metal sulphide mineralization. 3) Detached Merensky Reef, generally1.0 m thick, bounded by thin top and basal chromitite layers and composed of feldspathic pyroxenite or pyroxenite containing base metal sulphide mineralization overlying Merensky Pyroxenite. 4) Normal footwall Merensky Reef, generally 1.8 m thick, bounded by thin top and basal chromitite layers and composed of feldspathic pyroxenite containing base metal sulphide mineralization overlying norites also containing significant base metal sulphide mineralization. The PGE(4) content?s (g/m2) distribution for the global intersection data appears to be lognormal, and conversion to lognormal space produces a near normal distribution which could be interpreted as a compound lognormal distribution. The mean PGE(4) contents estimated by these three different distributions are the same, and thus do not impact on the contained metal. Data for the Normal Merensky Reef facies type are sufficient to indicate that a normal distribution is followed for this facies type, and therefore does not need to be transformed to log space for estimation of the mean and the 90% confidence limits. A global evaluation based on all of the data is compared with a facies-weighted evaluation. The latter method is noted to provide a better definition of the associated estimation errors and thus potential classification of Mineral Resources. A valuation of $20.95 for Inferred and $41.90 for Indicated PGE(4) ounces is applied to both of the evaluations and compared. The global evaluation is considered to over-value the project by approximately 40%, thus indicating that valuations based on global summary sampling data that have a compound distribution may be materially flawed, and that cognizance of the underlying geology is crucial for unbiased valuation.

"Due to the reunion of Western and Eastern Germany in the late 80’s, a multitude of infrastructure projects had to be executed. A good portion of these projects required improvement of the motorway system. In the southern region of Leipzig, in the eastern part of Germany, it was required to connect two existing motorways. Parts of the new motorway pass old strip mining areas. These strip mining areas consist of up to 70m thick backfill material. Especially the upper 20m are very inhomogeneous soil material with a very low bearing capacity. In order to increase the bearing capacity, to decrease the differential settlements and to homogenize the soil parameters, soil improvement using sand-gravel columns was required. Bauer Spezialtiefbau GmbH executed the installation of approx. 711,000 linear meters of columns with a length from 5 m to 25 m. For the project, 11 rigs with frame leads up to 40m were used to install the 43,000 columns with a diameter of 0.8m in 27 weeks.1. In this U.S. Bureau of Mines study, four underground respirable dust surveys were conducted to determine factors affecting belt entry dust levels and how using belt air to ventilate work areas affected dust exposures. Belt entry dust levels on the surveyed longwall and continuous miner sections averaged 0.59 and 0.26 mg/m3, respectively. The stageloader-crusher contributed an additional 0.5 to 0.9 mg/m3 of dust to belt air, while the feeder-breaker contributed 0 to 0.2 mg/m3 of dust. A 1,000-ft increase in belt entry length or a 200- to 500-st-per-shift increase in production resulted in roughly a 0.1-mg/m3 increase in dust. Using the belt entry as an intake entry on the continuous miner section appeared to reduce dust levels by 0.1 to 0.3 mg/m3 during cutting. Belt air was not used to ventilate the face on the longwall section.

INTRODUCTION In 1957, diamond drilling on a magnetic anomaly indicated an extensive zone of copper mineralization on what is now the Craigmont Mines property. By mid¬1958, drilling established a copper ore body. Milling commenced in September 1961 at 4536 t/d (5000 stpd) and by the end of October 1977 the mine had produced 339 662.04 t (374,363.9 st) of copper. At present, two-thirds of the mill feed is derived from underground operations and one-third from low-grade surface stockpiles. Craigmont Mines is situated 209 km (130 air miles) northeast of Vancouver (see Fig. 1), 16 km (10 miles) west of the town of Merritt, a logging, ranching, and mining community of about 7000 people. It is serviced by paved highways, Canadian Pacific Railway, British Columbia Hydro, and Inland Natural Gas Co. Water is pumped from the Nicola River, a distance of 6 km (4 miles) and a lift of 244 m (800 ft). In March 1967, the open pit mining operations at Craigmont Mines reached their economic limit and were suspended. Before this, it had been decided that a sub¬level caving method of underground mining would be used to supply ore to the concentrator after the cessation of open pit production. This chapter describes the fac¬tors influencing the choice of mining method, some of the problems encountered, mining practices, and results. GEOLOGY The ore bodies of upper Triassic age are located in a limy horizon striking east-west, closely paralleling the intrusive Guichon batholith, bounded on the south by rhyolites and on the north by graywackes, and dipping steeply to the south (Figs. 2a, b). The ore bodies are relatively narrow with a maxi¬mum width of 79 m (260 ft), a combined strike length of 853 m (2800 ft), and a vertical extent of 610 m (2000 ft). Chalcopyrite is virtually the only copper mineral, and 20% of the ore zone consists of acid solu¬ble magnetite and hematite. The area has been subjected to considerable faulting and brecciation, which is a major factor in the mining operation. Total geological reserves, at 0.7% Cu cutoff, for the deposit were 22 316 743 t (24,600,000 st) at 1.89% Cu. An additional 5 236 270 t (5,772,000 st) at 0.6% Cu were mined from the open pit. Ground Conditions The waste rocks-graywacke, andesites, and diorite -are relatively incompetent due to the high degree of fracturing and jointing, and all require varying degrees of support. The ore zones are somewhat less fractured; ground support is still required, however, although to a lesser extent than in the country rock. Ground conditions in the main ore body are better than in the smaller, nar¬rower ore bodies. Clayey fault gouge is present in most of the faults; gouge zones may be up to 6 or 9 m (20 or 30 ft) wide. The main ground problems are associated with local weakness rather than pressure. Shape of Ore Bodies (Figs. 2a, b and 3a, b) The main No. 1 ore body is approximately 244 m (800 ft) long and 46 m (150 ft) wide. It extends ver¬tically from the original top of the open pit at 4200 ele¬vation to just below the 3060 level. The No. 2 ore body is approximately 304 m (1000 ft) long, varies from stringer width at the extremities up to 79 m (260 ft) wide, and extends from 3060 level to 2400 level. Both these ore bodies have extensions re¬sulting in additional small irregular bodies. Ore bodies are mostly steep dipping, though part of the Wing ore body, an extension of No. 2 ore body, dips at 0.87 rad (50'). This ore body varies in size, but is approximately 122 m (400 ft) long, 21 m (70 ft) wide, and about 213 m (700 ft) high. No. 1 Limb ore body is a narrow extension of the No. I Main with a vertical extent of 137 m (450 ft), average width of 18 ft (60 ft), a strike length of 152 m (500 ft), and dips steeply at 1.4 rad (80°). No. 1 East is an eastern extension of the No. 1 Main with a vertical extent of 183 m (600 ft), a strike length of 91 m (300 ft), an average width of 30 m (100 ft), and dips at 1.2 to 1.4 rad (70 to 80°). "Prior to operating a non-recovery coke pilot plant, it was critical to ascertain coal cake stability during the loading of a 1 m3 coal cake into the oven. Various compaction parameters were verified and established on a small laboratory-scale compaction machine to obtain a coal cake of acceptable stability. These parameters include cake density, cake surface moisture, transverse strength (force applied perpendicular to the original compacted coal cake layers), and applied force to the coal cake. This work determined the behavioural characteristics of the coal while being compacted either with a full-sized or a 1/3-sized compaction plate in a 9 kg capacity mould. Two different coals were evaluated, namely Waterberg semi-soft coking coal (sscc) and Oaky North hard coking coal.The target wet cake density of 1 100 kg/m3 (79% of 1 400 kg/m3 relative density) was achieved for Waterberg sscc, with a particle size d50 varying between 0.6 mm and 1 mm, utilizing the 1/3-sized compaction plate in the laboratory-scale set-up, with 11.6% surface moisture and 92.2 t/m2 commercial equivalent applied force. For Oaky North hard coking coal, a wet cake density of 1 189 kg/m3 (85% of 1 400 kg/m3 relative density) was achieved at a surface moisture content of 12.3% and at a lower applied force than that for Waterberg sscc, i.e. 78.5 t/m2.Coal cakes of acceptable strength, and therefore sufficient stability for further processing, were obtained for all materials evaluated during this study.Further studies should be conducted to determine the effect of zeta potential during the compaction of coals.IntroductionExxaro Resources has successfully installed and commissioned a world-class stamp-charging horizontal 1 t electrically-heated pilot-scale coke oven at its Metallurgy Services facility. Prior to operating the coke non-recovery pilot plant, it is essential to ascertain coal cake stability during the loading of a 1 m3 coal cake into the oven. The design of Exxaro’s pilot plant is such that the coal cake is pushed inside the oven by means of a pusher plate, rather than through a ‘spoon’ feed mechanism, such as is found in industrial horizontal coke ovens. The pusher plate loading mechanism dictates that the coal cake should possess high stability and inherent strength during loading into the oven, owing to frictional forces exerted by the oven floor. In order to obtain a coal cake of acceptable stability, various compaction parameters needed to be verified and established on a small laboratory-scale compaction machine."

INTRODUCTION The block-caving mining method is one of the most economical ways existing today to extract ore from nature. It is undoubtedly the least costly of the underground systems and moreover it compares favorably to open-pit mining. In addition to its low cost characteristic, the block-caving mining method permits a great extraction volume as can be exemplified by El Teniente's output capacity of over 22 million tons of ore per year. These characteristics of block-caving give assurance that, even though it is a very old mining system, it will be a good answer to the many future large massive low ore grade deposits to come and a1 so to rep1 ace open-pi t mining as such operations get deeper with higher stripping ratios. These are the reasons that induce further study of block-caving. In this paper block-caving at El Teniente is analyzed with due consideration to the major problems that this mine will encounter. Emphasis is given to the factors influencing the mining of soft ore which accounts for most of the ore to be extracted in the next ten years. A separate paper is devoted to a major modification introduced to block-caving hard primary ore at El Teniente by means of LHD equipment extraction. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT MINING Ore Production and Flow Over 62.000 tons per day of ore are extracted 359 days per year at the El Teniente Mine. The Teniente 8 train haulage level at 1.983 m takes 29.000 tons daily to the Col6n Concentrator. Two trains make the 8 km haul with 16 cars per train. Car capacity is 90 tons. The Teniente 5 train haulage level 298 m above takes 33.000 t per day to the old Sewell Concentrator. Ore is produced from three production areas in two different levels. The so called North Mine produces 42.000 tons daily from the Teniente 4 level 65 m above the Teniente 5 haulage level. The Central Mine produces 1.000 tons from the first hard rock block caved at the Te- niente 4 level. The combined 43.000 tons per day production is sent through inclined 2 m dia- meter raises to the Teniente 5 haul age level , where 33.000 tons are taken 2.5 km to the Sewell Concentrator and 9.000 tons are hauled 0.5 km to a 5 m diameter vertical ore pass which sends ore to Teniente 8. The haulage is by 7 trains, 15 gabble-bottom cars per train. Car capacity is 20 tons. The so called South Mine produces 19.000 tons per day from the Teniente 1 level 645 m above the Teniente 8 haulage level. Ore is transferred by 2 m diameter inclined raises to the Ten 1 Retram level 22 m below, where 5 trains with 20 Sandfor Day cars per train, 8 tons capacity per car, haul the ore 1.5 km to two vertical 5 m diameter ore passes which connect to Ten 8. Starting in 1982 the Central Mine will in- crease production to 6.000 tons per day. An in- dependent loop haulage system will start operat- ing at the Teniente 5 level to feed a new under- ground 1.372 mm (54 in.) gyratory crusher which will send minus 152 mm ore (9 in.) to Teniente 8. In two or three years time the North Mine will only feed the 33.000 tons to the Sewel 1 Concentrator with its old Teniente 5 haulage system. The Col6n Concentrator will be fed from the Central and South Mines. Figure 1 shows the transfer systems and ore flows. The Ore Body In plan view at the Teniente 4 level the ore body has a kidney shape 1.800 m long and between 400 to 700 m wide. The north-eastern section of the ore body was washed away by the Teniente River. At the Sub 5 Level, 125 m below Teniente 4, the mineralization completely surrounds the circular 1.000 m diameter steep-sided barren breccia pipe (Braden pipe) . The ore body rock is 73% andesite, 14% diori te, 13% dacite and 6% mineralized breccia. GENERAL OUTLINE For more than one hundred years, asbestos ore has been mined on Les Mines d’Amiante Bell's property at Thetford-Mines , Quebec, Canada. In 1878, the first tons of fibre were produced. The mine operated as an open pit until 1951 at a yearly production of about 330 000 mt of ore. Since 1951, the mine has operated underground using a block caving method. The mine produced 725 000 mt per year until 1978, when the rate of production was increased to 1 100 000 mt. The ore was produced entirely fm the first lift on 650 level until 1976. Then, a second lift on 950 level was put into operation to replace production facilities fm the first lift which is now exhausted. Annual fibre production is 72 500 mt with grades £ran 3 to 7. The total work force is 600 people. The host rock is a peridotite partially serpentinized. The asbestos fibre seams occur as stockwork deposit structurally controlled by talcose shear zone. The geological rock formations are heavily jointed and have a wide range of competence. Asbestos ore bodies have an heterogeneous nature which des difficult geological interpretation. THE GRIZZLY METHODS A full gravity method was used on the first level where the caved ore was drawn from finger raises onto grizzly bars spaced at 480 mn. Oversize blocks were reduced by secondary blasting. The ore fell by gravity in- to the ore pass below the grizzly chamber and was loaded into 5.7 mt haulage cars through a 1.2 m wide chute. Access to the undercut drift was fm the grizzly drift through finger raises. The undercut trough was drilled and blasted in a 1.2 m interval ring sequence into a slot situated at the end of each panel. The undercut stope was emptied through the finger raises. The undercut retreated from South to North at blast interval determined by the finger raises spacing. Fig. 1 represents the various steps involved with the grizzly method. Extraction drift dimensions were opened 1.8 m wide x 2.4 m high with anchor rock bolts and wire mesh where safety required them during excavation. Grizzly chambers were excavated at 2.4 x 2.4 x 4.6 m long on a 7.6 x 7.6 m grid spacing. Ore passes with dimensions of 1.5 x 1.5 m were developed from the haulage drift. On the extraction level, headings were drilled with jacklegs and cleaned by slusher into ore passes to the haulage chutes. The support used in the grizzly chambers was square concrete structure with 150 mn H beam reinforcement. The H beam was partially buried in the concrete and had one free face to allow for difference frequency of blast vibration between concrete and steel. The supported brow of the chamber had an opening 1.5 x 2.1 m. Ore passes were ring concreted 150 mn thick without any reinforcement. A 24 MPa compressive strength concrete was pumped and poured in pre-assembled forms. Based on the success of this method on the first level, the same layout was repeated on the second level. With the start of undercutting on the second lift, signs of deterioration were noticed in extraction drifts. At first, there was great concern as the operators were confident that standard repair techniques could cope with such a situation. An intensive program of support repair and a reduction of draw resulted. The following method of repairs were used: 1) Steel square sets of 150 mn H beam at 0.6 m intervals were installed. 2) This was reduced later to 0.3 m interval and eventually to a skin to skin steel structure. 3) Yieldable arches were introduced spaced at 0.9 m intervals, linked laterally with 150 m. H beam. 4) The yieldable arches spacing was then reduced to 0.46 m and eventually installed skin to skin. However, this support was not successful.

In surface electrical exploration the high resolution earth resistivity method (HRRM) is a very effective method for detecting abandoned drift mines workings. When the abandoned mines are more than 500 ft (150 m) deep, its detection capability reduces greatly and requires more effort to implement. In Yan Quan coal mine, Shanxi province, we tried to adapt this method for underground application. Two survey lines were designed with the spacing of current and potential poles 20 m and 10 m, respectively and measuring points at 2m. The measurement radius of I line and I1 line were 140 m and 60 m, respectively, and the infinitely far pole was 1200~2000 m from the survey line. (Note the I and II lines are located on the north and south ribs of main tunnel, respectively). The survey results showed that abandoned workings were located at 25-70m, Survey Line I and at 80-1 10m, Survey line 11. Based on this finding, the longwall panel gateroads and set up entry were properly located thereby providing safe mining of the No. 15 Coal seam. The Baltimore Red Line Project is a proposed 22.7-km (14.1-mile) long east-west light rail transit (LRT) line envisioned to connect the areas of Woodlawn, Edmondson Village, West Baltimore, downtown Baltimore, Inner Harbor East, Fells Point, Canton and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Campus. The Red Line LRT System has two tunnel segments - the Cooks Lane Tunnel (CLT) and the Downtown Tunnel (DTT). The CLT segment is roughly 1,920-m (6,300-ft) long. It commences at the west portal located at the highway ramp for I 70 (to be removed) and terminates at the east portal that is at the intersection of Edmondson Avenue (U.S. Route 40) and Glen Allen Drive. This segment of the project consists of the following construction components: approximately 1,458 m (4,786 ft) of tunnels, 143 m (469 ft) of cut-and-cover tunnel, and 318 m (1,045 ft) of retained cut (U) section. The approximate horizontal alignment for the Red Line LRT Project is shown in Fig. 1.

The Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC) Combined Sewer Overflow Abatement Program is a major effort to address and mitigate discharges from combined sewer overflows in the Providence, Rhode Island area. The proposed system consists of three deep rock tunnel segments totaling 17.8 km (11.1 miles) in length that will provide 860,000 cu m (227 million gal) of storage at depths up to 99m (325 ft). This paper discusses 13.5 km (8.4 miles) of 6.64m (21.8 ft) finished diameter tunnel, four construction shafts, 19 dropshafts and one large diameter pump station shaft tapered from 1 5.2m (50 ft) at the surface to 27.4m (90 ft) at depth. All facilities are in preliminary design.

This paper is based on a project conducted at Khomanani 2 shaft, Anglo American Platinum Limited. The main objective was to find an alternative support element in stopes to address the falls of ground (FOG) problem experienced at this shaft. Literature review was the major method used in the investigations. Resin bolts or any 1.5 m in-stope roofbolts were considered. The shaft was making use of 0.9 m long friction bolts, and these could not prevent the FOG experienced. Observations indicated that the FOG resulted in fall-out thicknesses averaging to 1.1 m, which is greater than the supported length of the friction bolts. The implementation of 1.5 m long bolts was recommended as a result of the project. These bolts will be able to address the fall-out thickness and provide sufficient support resistance to mitigate FOG. The chosen support element will result in a relatively small increase in support costs.

"ABSTRACTThis paper briefly describes the mining method proposed for the iron ore deposits in Wadi Shatti, western Libya. The iron ore produced will be used in the steel plant at Misurata on the Mediterranean coast. GeologyThe Wadi Shatti is located in the central part of western Libya. Flat iron-bearing sedimentary rocks are exposed with remarkable regularity in this valley. It occupies an area 200 km long by approximately 20 km wide trending in an eastnortheast direction between Jabal Fazzan in the north and Zel1af Sand Dunes in the south (Fig. I). Only a part of this valley has been ful1y explored by drilling on a 400- by 200-m pattern in an area of 18 km2 south of the town of Taroot. Farther to the south, no exploration by drilling can be done due to the presence of sand dunes .The iron-bearing bed is about 10to 15m thick, with a dip of 2 to 4 degrees in a southerly direction . The overburden consists mainly of clayey sandstones, 4 to 5 m thick, in the northern part, increasing to 35 m in the southern part. The iron ore bed consists of three different layers, from the floor upward: (1) Lower Reduced Ore (LRO), having a varying thickness of 1 to 7 m; (2) Magnetic Ore (MO), with a thickness varying from 4 to 12 m mainly in the central part of the area; and(3) Upper Reduced Ore (URO), with a bed thickness varying from 0 to 7 m."

A portion of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Red Line Extension through Somerville, Massachusetts consists of 1,553cm (5,092 LF) of hard rock tunneling 6.7m (22 ft.) diameter horeshoe, 148m (485 LF) of mixed face tunneling, 7.2m (23 ft.) diameter circular, beneath an active railroad in a heavily commercialized business district. This paper will deal with the excavation of the mixed face area without the use of a shield. It will address the special excavation and support problems encountered during tunneling operations using the floating crown bar and modified spiling methods. Topics covered will include excavation and support methods, cement grouting, compaction grouting, and instrumentation. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Davis Square to Porter Square Tunnels and Shafts Somerville/ Cambridge, Massachusetts is part of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's (MBTA) 5.1km (17,000 ft.) Red Line Extension. This extension runs from Harvard Square, Cambridge, to Alewife Brook Parkway, Cambridge through Somerville. This portion (MBTA Contract #091-106) required the excavation and concreting of 1,701m (5,580 LF) of single track twin tunnels consisting of 1,553m (5,092 LF) of conventional hard rock tunneling under 56 residential properties and 148m (485 LF) of mixed face tunneling beneath an active railroad in a heavily commercialized business district. The mined diameter of the mixed face tunnel is 7.16m (23.5 ft.) Access to the tunnel was via the Summer Street vent shaft, and the two Grove Street access shafts where all tunnel excavated materials were removed.

The Sutong Bridge across the lower Yangtze River in China will have, when completed, the longest span (1,088 m) and the highest towers (306 m) of any cable stayed span in the world. The foundations for this record setting span will also be record setting. They are located in water depths exceeding 30 m with maximum flows exceeding 3 m/sec. The soil at the site of the main pylons consists of layers of silty sands and silty clays extending to bed rock at 270 m below river elevation. This paper describes the innovative methods used by the team of foundation designers and constructors to support this record setting bridge at this very challenging site. This paper covers three specific topics related to the foundations of the Sutong Bridge: ? Design and construction of the 131 drilled shafts (2.8/2.5 m diameter and 114/117 m long) under each of the two main pylons, including the post-grouting of all drilled shaft tips. ? Design and construction of the scour protection for the two main pylons. ? Construction methods used to construct the waterline pile caps (113.8 m by 48.1 m by 13.3 m deep) under each pylon.

Rate laws for the hydrogen reduction of metal ions are typically of the form: [r = -d[M(II)]/dt = k[M(II)]xPy2H] where k is an apparent rate constant, [M(II)] and PH2 represent dissolved metal concentration and hydrogen pressure respectively, while x = 0 - 1 and y = 0.5 - 2. Half-order dependences have been reported for some M(II)/H2 systems; however, no satisfactory explanations have been offered. In an effort to bridge this gap in our understanding, the published precipitation rate data (for M(II) = Cu(II), Ni(II), and Co(II)) are reviewed (with emphasis on the reported reaction orders) and compared with the corresponding but limited electrochemical polarization data. Based on the available literature on the electrochemical kinetics of the M/M(II) and H2/H+ systems it is demonstrated theoretically that, under certain conditions (e.g., in the presence of electron-conducting solids), the rate of the M(II)/H2 reaction can be expressed as: [-d[M2+]/dt = k[M2+]2/1P2/12H] It is concluded that electrochemical processes probably play an important role in the hydrogen reduction of metal ions, especially for systems that involve heterogeneous catalysis.

Thiosulfate leaching as an environmentally benign alternative to cyanide leaching has received particular attention in recent years. Most studies have focused on thiosulfate leaching of free milling ores and, to some extent, pregrobbing ores. In this study, leaching of gold from the refractory Kaletas ore (in which gold/silver alloy is the only mode of occurrence detected) in ammoniacal thiosulfate solutions was studied. A two-level full factorial design (23) was adopted to investigate the effects of concentration of thiosulfate (0.2-1 M Na2S2O3), ammonia (0.5-1 M NH3) and copper (0.05-0.1 M CuSO4) on the extraction of gold from a ground ore (-38 µm) over a period of 24 h. Statistical analysis confirmed the leaching of gold improved with increasing concentrations of thiosulfate and ammonia. In contrast, increasing the concentration of copper in the range tested adversely affected the extraction of gold. The magnitude of effects of parameters on the gold extraction was in the order of Na2S2O3 > NH3 > CuSO4. The maximum extraction of gold (69.6%) was obtained in the presence of 1 M Na2S2O3, 1 M NH3 and 0.05 M CuSO4. The negative influence of copper on gold extraction is most likely attributed to the decomposition of thiosulfate catalyzed by copper. Concentration of thiosulfate was also identified to be statistically the most important parameter for its consumption.
