Three studies conducted at the University of Utah relating to the effect of scrubbers on face airflow patterns, the resulting dust exposure of operators and the development of a throat scrubber for continuous miners are summarized in this paper. The first study involved full-scale laboratory tests to determine the potential dispersion patterns and transport of dust at a continuous miner face, using different ventilation configurations and a scrubber. Concentration maps were developed and potential exposures at operator positions were examined. The second study involved the development of a 3-D numerical model to predict airflow patterns generated by a scrubber at a continuous miner face. The model was designed to evaluate the role of various face parameters on airflow patterns at a miner face and to complement the full-scale testing. The third study involved the design and fabrication of a low profile hydraulically powered continuous miner throat scrubber. The scrubber uses three hydraulic motors and small diameter fans to draw about 3000 cfm (1.42 m3/s) of air and uses a flooded bed scrubber to filter dust particles.

The first cement plant of TITAN Cement Co was founded in Elefsis in 1902. It was the first cement industrial facility to operate in the Balkans and in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Currently have four cement plants in Greece producing 5.4 million tons per annum, and 25 ready-mixed concrete sites producing 1.4 million m3 annually. It has a total of 20 quarries, 14 of which are producing materials used in the making of cement while the remaining six produce aggregates used in the production of ready-mixed concrete. All plants in Greece are accredited for ISO 14001. The restoration of quarries began in 1976 at the company?s limestone quarry of the Patras plant, and was soon extended to all quarries. At that time, a department responsible for all environmental issues was established. To date, over 700.000 shrubs and trees have been planted and maintained at quarries, plants and ready-mixed concrete facilities, while over 100,000 trees have been donated to municipalities, communities, customers and to the Greek state.

Highly stressed rock in stopes continues to be a primary safety risk for miners in underground mines because it can result in failures of ground that lead to both injuries and death. Spokane Research Laboratory personnel investigated electromagnetic (EM) emissions in a deep under-ground mine in an effort to determine if these emissions could be used as indicators of impending catastrophic ground failure. Results suggest that (1) there is no increase in the number of EM emissions prior to recorded seismic activity, (2) some EM signals are generated during blasting, (3) interference from mine electrical sources mask seismic-generated EM signals, (4) EM emissions do not give enough warning (compared to seismic monitoring) to permit miners to leave a stope, (5) the distance an EM signal can travel in the rock is between 17.7 and 39.6 m (58 and 130 ft), and (6) current data acquisition systems do not differentiate between EM signals generated from seismic activity and random mine electrical noise. These results preclude monitoring EM emissions as precursors of impending catastrophic ground failure.

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) has been working since mid-1977 on a fast track to meet a court-imposed schedule to rehabilitate a large wastewater collection and treatment system at an estimated cost of $1.7 billion. Because of glaciation, the Milwaukee area has an extremely complex geologic environment. The rock surface ranges from outcroppings in the northern and western parts of the area to 76 m (250 ft) below the surface at the mouth of the Milwaukee and Menomonee Rivers. Bedrock beneath the glacial mantle is a thick sequence of early to middle Paleozoic sedimentary rock. To cope with the many complexities of this large public works project, a Program Management Office (PMO) concept has been employed. A Geotechnical Engineering Group was established within the PMO to provide a continuous , unified approach to geotechnical engineering and full disclosure of all geotechnical information in the construction contract documents. It provides qeotechnical engineering to design and construction, develops and maintains a qeotechnical data base, and participates on the claims resource team.

Large mining-induced seismic events and their aftershocks cause hazardous working conditions, damage infrastructure, delay production and pose a risk to miners in the deep-level gold mines of South Africa. Stress changes affecting pre-existing zones of weakness are the main drivers of large mining-induced seismic events, which are often followed by aftershocks triggered by quasi-static stress transfer within the rockmass. A better understanding of seismic source mechanisms is important if the seismic data is to be used more effectively for mine planning and to reduce the rockburst risk. Four large seismic events (ML≥2.0) associated with the mining of the Ventersdorp Contact Reef (VCR) at Kloof Gold Mine occurred on 13 June 2017. The events and their fore- and aftershocks were studied in detail to establish the circumstances and the cause of the incidents. The local magnitudes ranged from ML 2.3 to ML 3.0, the seismic moment from 0.69 to 2.25 x 1013 Nm and the source radius from 92 – 150 m. The main shocks were preceded by foreshock sequences, which were especially vigorous in the four hours before the main shock. Seismicity was recorded by in-mine arrays of three-component 4.5Hz geophones (detection threshold approx. ML -2.9). Following all four main seismic events, ML 2.3, ML 2.3, ML 2.9 and ML 3.0, the network detected a total number of 300 aftershocks ranging from ML -2.9 to ML 1.6 spread within a 1300 m radius from the centre of the seismic network. The statistical properties of the aftershocks were analysed using three scaling relationships: (i) Gutenberg–Richter frequency magnitude relationship; (ii) modified Omori’s law; and (iii) Båth’s law for the magnitude of the largest aftershock. The geological or mining feature that controlled the failure (e.g., fault, dyke, pillar, abutment) was determined by calculating the orientation of the nodal planes of the large seismic events using moment tensor analysis and studying the aftershock distributions.

During the year of 1972 ASARCO's Silver Bell embarked upon a project that would test a modified grinding circuit using direct digital compute against the performance of its other five grinding lines, implementation and subsequent outcome of that project has been previously reported in a paper by Pitts, et al. The main purpose of the present paper will be to describe major problems incurred during the implementation of this control strategy on the remaining five primary grinding lines and their solutions. Also included will be a discussion of changes made in operating philosophy and methods used since that report was written. Description The Silver Bell concentrator is a 10,436 tonne/day copper sulfide plant supplied by ore from two separate open pits approximately 4 km. apart. As well as receiving ore from these two main pits, ore is received from several exten¬sions of both pits. The ore bodies are variable in rock type and the extensions have increased this variability. Grinding is carried out by six primary, single-stage, 3.20M x 3.66M Allis Chalmers grate discharge ball mills in closed circuit with four Krebs D20B cyclones (Fig. 1). Each of these grinding circuits is controlled by four independent but interactive control elements. These control elements are the fresh ore feed, the water added to the feed end of the mill, the water added to the ball mill discharge sump, and the cyclone feed pump speed. At the present time, instrumentation for measuring primary process variables consists of Merrick weightometers for fresh ore feed, orifice plates coupled with differential pressure transmitters (dp's) for incoming water measurements, back-pressure diaphragm coupled with a dp for estimating ball mill discharge sump level, a magnetic flowmeter for determining cyclone feed velocity and a nuclear density gauge for measuring cyclone feed density. All measuring instruments develop electrical signals that are measured as 2-10 V DC "inputs o the computer interface.

The Atlantic City iron mine is located in Fremont County in central Wyoming, near the historic gold mining camps of Atlantic City and South Pass City. The mine lies on the southeast flank of the Wind River Mountains at an elevation of about 2,470 m (8,100 ft) above sea level (Fig. 1). An 81-h M2 (200-acre) tailings impoundment at the Atlantic City taconite operation has been a source of blowing dust. The site qualified for reclamation under Wyoming&apos;s Abandoned Mine Land (AML) reclamation program. The ultimate reclamation construction incorporated commercially available organic amendments and fertilizers into a 300-mm- (12-in.-) thick cap of a sterile clay loam cover material. The water level was lowered in an adjacent flooded mine pit that was feeding uncontrolled seeps into the tailings basin. A wide tailings pond spillway was built that allows flood control while minimizing seasonal water-level fluctuations in the pond. Rock berms and rock snow fences were built for wind-erosion control and soil-moisture preservation. Future work includes tree planting in the protective wind/ snow shadows of rock berms and rock snow fences and plugging a decant pipe. US Steel opened the Atlantic City iron mine in August 1962. It closed in 1983. Taconite iron ore was mined by surface methods. The ore was magnetically separated from the waste. The magnetic concentrate was mixed with bentonite, formed into pellets and roasted to produce a blast furnace feed stock for US Steel&apos;s blast furnaces in Geneva, UT. The pellets were hauled by rail to the Geneva Iron Works. The Atlantic City Mine produced three types of wastes. These included waste rock overburden from mining, a coarse-grained (sand to small-gravel sized), nonmagnetic reject rock termed "cobbs" and fine-grained tailings ranging from 600 to 75 µm (28 to <200 mesh). Two rare evaporite minerals, nahcolite (NaHC03) and trona (Na2C03?NaHC03?2H20), are both widely used in the production of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) The largest natural carbonate deposits (trona) are in Wyoming, USA, the second largest deposits are in Turkey, in a lacustrine basin (Beypazari) where nahcolite and trona are located within the Miocene Hirka Formation. The Hirka Formation is mainly composed of bituminous shale, claystone, marlstone, tuffltuffite, and dolomitic limestones. Although numerous trona beds are interbedded within the above mentioned sedimentary units, there are only two beds of trona that are of economic interest. The lower part of the lower trona bed is rich in double carbonates such as pirrsonite (NA2C03? CaC03?2H20) and gaylussite (Na2C03?CaC03?5H20), indicating a change in Ca/Na ratio in the solutions which are responsible for the formation of soda occurrences. In contrast, the upper part of the upper trona bed is rich in nahcolite. This minerological pattern has been found in every drill- hole in the basin. While both trona beds average up to 10 m (33 ft) thick, the average thickness of nahcolite is approximately 0.5 m (1.6 ft). Also, thin section studies show that many fibrous and lath-like trona crystals contain small radial nahcolite crystals; all of them are euhedral and equi-dimensional. Geochemical studies of major, minor, and trace element contents also support this coexistence. Macroscopic and microscopic observations reveal that the nahcolites principally were formed as a result of an incongruent dissolution process of trona. In conclusion, the presence of nahcolite in the Beypazari basin is due to the dissolution process of trona, particularly during the last stage of evaporation, as a result of fresh water entering the basin. During that time, an increase in the HC03/ C03 ratio resulted in nahcolite-trona phase transitions.

As part of a continuing study of diesel exhaust aerosol characteristics, the Bureau of Mines has applied Chemical Mass Balance (CMB) model source apportionment analysis to evaluate a size selective sampling method for determining the separate diesel exhaust and coal dust aerosol concentrations in a diesel equipped coal mine. Size selective sampling was used under the premise that diesel exhaust aerosol dominates the submicrometer aerosol size range, while most of the mineral dust aerosol is greater than 1 m. A micro-orifice, uniform deposit impactor (MOUDI) was used as the size selective sampling method. Concurrent samples of mine aerosol were collected using a dichotomous, respirable aerosol sampler. This sampler separated the fine and coarse size portions of its sample at 0.7 m. Trace element concentrations for in-mine aerosol sources and the dichotomous samples used by the CMB model were measured using Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis. The CMB analysis, applied to both the fine and coarse fractions of the respirable mine aerosol, yielded the mass concentration contributed to each by diesel exhaust and mineral dust aerosol sources. The MOUDI size distribution data were analyzed using nonlinear regression to parameterize the fine and coarse fractions of the sampled aerosol and to estimate the contributions to each fraction from both coal dust and diesel aero- sol sources. For the diesel mine visited, analysis of the MOUDI samples yielded a value for the fraction of the fine aerosol attributable to coal dust of 15[]7% fine fraction coal from analysis of the MOUDI samples versus 25[]4% from the CMB analysis. The remainder of the fine aerosol in the mine was diesel exhaust aerosol. CMB analysis confirms the original premise for such sampling. After correcting for the presence of coal dust in the fine aerosol fraction, analysis of the MOUDI size distributions yielded estimates of respirable mineral and diesel exhaust aerosol concentrations that were accurate to with-in 10% of values determined by the CMB apportionment.

The Mt Todd Gold mine is situated near Katherine in the Northern Territory of Australia. Commissioning of an 8 Mtpa processing facility incorporating a four stage crushing circuit, ball mills, flotation, concentrate regrinding, high rate thickening and CIL processing was commenced during late 1996. A 4.5 M tonne /annum crushing and heap leach facility was commissioned during late 1994, and was subsequently upgraded to a nominal 6 M tonne / annum circuit during 1995. Processing equipment used included primary gyratory, secondary cone and tertiary Barmac VSI crushers. Some of the features of that crushing circuit and heap leach facility were presented at the Randol Perth 95 conference by myself. The location is described as sub tropical with average climatic conditions including 1100 millimetres annual rainfall, predominantly during the December. to March wet season, and 3000 millimetres evaporation and maximum temperatures ranging from around 26 to 46 °C. The main gold occurrence at the Mt Todd site is the Batman deposit, with current published Reserves of some 60 Mt@ 1.20 g Au / tonne ( 0.0425 oz Au / ton ). The primary ore from the Batman deposit is an extremely competent greywacke and is very hard at an average Bond Ball Mill Work Index of26.5 kWhrs/ tonne. Other indicators include a Bond Impact Crush Work Index of 20 kWhrs I tonne, an Abrasion Index of 0.15 and Ultimate Compressive Strength values of 100 - 200 MPa. The main gold occurrence is very finely disseminated free gold (at an average grain size of around 5 micron) within a combination of quartz and mixed sulphide. This gold bearing component is confined to largely parallel veins ranging from 0.5 to 25mm wide within a greywacke matrix. Although the gold is essentially non­refractory, there is a strong recovery versus grindsize relationship due mainly to the liberation characteristics and the relatively low permeability of the host greywacke rock.

The Endako, British Columbia, deposit was initially discovered in 1927 by two local men, Charles H. Foote and Alf Lagdon, who were at that time on a hunting expedition. Four mineral claims were located to cover an area of quartz-molybdenite float that was centered on two small ridges. They subsequently uncovered a 0.5-m (1.6-ft) wide vein on which an inclined shaft was sunk to a depth of 8.3 m (27.2 ft) in 1934. Additionally, a short adit was driven to intersect another vein. Numerous trenches and small pits were also dug. Small test shipments of vein material from this early work were sent to G.S. Eldridge and Co. in Vancouver for metallurgical testing. A concentrate assaying 89.2% MoS, was produced with a recovery reported as 93.3%. The concentrate was essentially free of copper, arsenic, and phosphate. The property was examined by many geologists and engineers during 1934 to 1952, but the only work done was undertaken by the owners in order to maintain their claims in good standing. In 1952, Kennco Explorations (Canada) Ltd. carried out a limited program of bulldozer trenching, sampling, and geological mapping before relin- quishing their option. In 1956, American Standard Mines Ltd. acquired an option on the property, but no assessment work was apparently recorded and the property was allowed to lapse. The key claims were restaked in 1959 by C. Riley and H.T. James of Vancouver. The property was optioned from the new owners by Andrew Robertson in July 1961, and a small amount of trenching was conducted. Robertson, on behalf of his own company, R & P Metals Corp., reoptioned the property in January 1962. The initial results of this work were favorable and justified further exploration. The additional finances required to continue the program resulted in the formation of Endako Mines Ltd. (N.P.L.) on June 21, 1962. Field work by R & P Metals and the first Endako Mines exploration was directed by Bob Couts.

Hong Kong’s Strategic Sewage Disposal Scheme (SSDS) Stage I involves the provision of a system of deep tunnels for transporting to a central treatment works wastewater collected from a number of catchments around Victoria Harbour. For the SSDS Stage I works, about 24 km of tunnels have been excavated in hard rock at depths ranging from about 80 to 150 m below Victoria Harbour and the surrounding heavily developed areas of Kowloon and Hong Kong. Five tunnel boring machines(TBMs) with diameters ranging from 3.2 m to 4.3 m were used to excavate the tunnels. Tunnel excavation has been completed and tunnel linings are in progress. Major tunnelling issues such as ground stabilisation and water control encountered in the project are summarised. An overview of one of the possible future tunnel systems that might be adopted in subsequent stages of SSDS is also presented.

The minerals industry trend toward very flotation machines, exceeding 10 m3, began in the late 1960&apos;s and responds to the continuing desire to achieve better plant economics through improved plant floor-space utilization, power requirements, and operational /maintenance manpower heeds. In general, as process design tonnage increases, the benefits of the larger flotation machine becomes more evident. The development of the larger flotation machine can be distingushed from earlier, smaller, machines in demanding a rational "scale-up" procedure to guide the basic design, thereby producing a machine prototype capable of satisfactory-operational evaluation at minimum cost. Proven flotation machine "hydrodynamic" scale-up consideration, successfully applied in the development of both the WEMCO No. 164 (28.3 m3) and No. 190 (42.5 m3) machine will be reviewed, and the resulting economic benefits of large flotation machines in high tonnage applications will be summarized.

LKAB owns and operates two of the largest underground mines in the world in Northern Sweden. In Malmberget, with a production capacity of about 30,000 t/day of iron ore, the current main 815 m haulage level is rapidly approaching the end of Its life and plans are being made for its replacement on the 1000 m level. Due to the separation of the orebodies, trucks have been chosen for transporting the ore from the orepasses to the crushers. The trucks currently in use have a capacity of 120 tons. To increase the efficiency of the loaded haul, the new main level will have a favorable slope from the drawpoint locations to the crushers. From the new level the crushed ore will be transported by conveyor to the 815 m level for hoisting to the surface. The paper discusses the planned mining and transportation system.

The Benbrook Connection tunnel forms approximately 6,666 m (19,560 ft) of17,678 m (58,000 ft) of raw water pipeline connecting Lake Benbrook with the Rolling Hills Water Treatment Plant. This connection is designed to minimize costs to the owners, the Tarrant Regional Water District, for providing raw water to its’ various clients. The geological formations through which the tunnel passes and the design requirements resulted in some-what unique applications of initial ground support systems which were modified by the con-tractor to optimize the mining operations. The pipe sections, fabricated in 12 m (40 ft) sections, are concrete lined and coated steel pipe. Construction of the work shaft and tail tunnel was also modified to suit the contractors methods. A Lovat universal TBM was chosen to excavate through the various rock types. The pipe sections will be transported using beam carriers.

The open stope room and pillar method of mining is used throughout Ozark Lead Company&apos;s underground mine located at Sweetwater, Missouri. This method of mining produces an approximate overall ore extraction of 80%. Pillar recovery, on a limited and experimental basis, was started in January of 1979 to determine the maximum size underground opening that could be mined safely. Monitoring the roof and surrounding pillars for potential failure during this pillar recovery process was accomplished by utilizing a simple rod extensometer to measure roof sag. Boreholes 7.5cm in diameter were drilled 3.5m into the roof to spot any separations or cracks that might have propagated between the bedded layers of rock. Underground openings 85m in length by 46m in width have been mined successfully without roof or surrounding pillar failure. Continued measurements to establish long term results will be necessary.

This paper reports the construction of an environmentally-friendly tunnel in sedimentary soft rock near a residential area. The main tunnel, which will be used as the Onmawashi-Koen (Park) Regulating Reservoir, is a large-scale tunnel with a cross sectional area of 254.0 m2 and a lengthof 577.3 m, excavated using such support as shotcrete, rockbolts and steel H-sections. Since the large main tunnel is excavated in sedimentary soft rock, it is necessary to keep the stability of the tunnel face and the crown and to prevent surface settlement. A top heading with a length of 50 m is therefore driven as a pilot tunnel to observe the ground behavior during excavation, and to obtain information on the geological conditions based on which type of support structure is determined with consideration given to the results of field measurements and numerical analyses.

4.1 THE GENERAL COMPOSITION AND PROPERTIES OF CLAY-BASED GROUTS Clay-based grouts are visco-plastic systems; they are made by adding structure-forming reagents to a clay mineral mortar. Small amounts of cement and various chemical ad¬ditives constitute the reagents. If necessary, fillers also are added. The distinguishing feature of clay-based grouts is that throughout their entire stabilization period they do not form a crystallized structure as does cement grout. The structure of stabilized clay-based grouts does not deteriorate during minor rock movement or upon the initiation of blast¬ing during the construction of a shaft or a drift. Because they can possess good rheological properties during the ini¬tial structure-forming period relative to cement grouts, clay¬based grouts are not easily eroded from large fractures and karstic cavities by flowing ground water. In addition, their finely dispersed clay particles facilitate a greater fracture penetration capacity, especially in dual porosity rocks. Numerous investigations of the structural-mechanical and rheological properties of clay-based grouts by STG have demonstrated that the most effective grouts for pre¬venting the inflow of ground water into underground work¬ings are grouts that have a cement content of 8 to 10% (90 to 120 kg/m3) of the clay grout by mass. The grout should have a density of 1.18 to 1.30 T/m3. Various additional substances and chemicals can be added as additional fillers and structure-forming reagents. In pure ground water at temperatures above freezing, sodium silicate in the amount of 0.8 to 1 % by mass normally is the only structure-forming reagent that is necessary if the proper clay is selected and if it is available. The production process for making clay-based grout is divided into two stages: 1) the production of an initial clay mortar with specified properties and 2) the production of a clay-cement additive grout mixture using the initial grout along with the structure-forming reagents, including the ce¬ment. The properties of clay-based grouts depend on the phys¬ical-mechanical properties of the initial clay mineral, the properties of the cement and the properties of the chemical reagents that are added. 4.1.1 TECHNOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF CLAY-BASED GROUTS The dynamic shear stress&apos; To, the viscosity 11, the static shear stress2 0, the maximum shear stress of the structured that the rheological and structural-mechanical prop¬erties of clay-based grouts must fall within the following limits: the dynamic shear stress To = 50 to 200 Pa; the viscosity -9 = 0.02 to 0.07 Pa sec; the static shear stress 0 = 150 to 600 Pa; the plasticity strength Pm of the structure one minute after preparation (according to P.A. Rebinder&apos;s method) equals 150 to 500 Pa. The plasticity strength 10 days after preparation is ? 0.15 MPa. The general relationship of the change in the structural strength of clay-based grouts relative to stabilization time is shown in Fig. 32. The figure shows that the structure-form¬ing process for clay-based grouts is characterized by three stages. These stages correspond to the time periods required for conducting the principal operations during the injection of the grout into a fractured aquifer as described below. Stage I, corresponding to the time period T1, reflects the small development of structural strength during early stabi¬lization. During this time, the structural strength must not preclude the capability to pump the grout. The time Tl must correspond to the length of pumping time from the moment water is shut off and mixing occurs until the pump stops forcing the grout through the manifold block and pipeline into the fractured rock as described subsequently herein. Stage II, corresponding to the time interval T2, reflects a sharp but controllable increase in the structural strength of the grout. The length of time period T2 is controlled by the addition of appropriate reagents. Stage III produces the final value of the structural strength. This final strength is used to design the dimensions of the isolation curtain. Consequently, the development of grouts is guided by two principal criteria: 1) the grout must develop the highest possible structural-mechanical properties and 2) it must be able to be pumped by a piston pump prior to final stabili¬zation. During the past decade, the size of grin- ding mills has steadily increased. Mills 11 m in diameter with 9 mW motors have been installed with even larger units on the drawing board. The rising costs of energy and labor have spurred interest in improving efficiency while reducing capital investment and operating labor. Autogenous and semiautogenous grinding have experienced renewed interest as efforts to reduce operating and capital costs have increased.

During a period of six months in FY2018, a series of trials were conducted to compare drilling accuracy using two different methodologies and the subsequent impact this had on ore dilution. Testing was conducted at Cracow underground gold mine in Queensland, Australia. The drill rig’s existing alignment process was compared to a new technology system with the following observations: - Using the existing alignment process only 20% of holes surveyed recorded toe points within the +/-300mm (11.8in) tolerance blast-hole deviation. - The new technology was proven to limit rig alignment error, reducing average blast-hole deviation and increasing the number of holes drilled within tolerance by 160%. The increased accuracy reduced stope dilution by reducing over-break of subgrade ore: - Stopes drilled using the new technology recorded 62.6% less average dilution. - This contributed to an overall reduction in dilution for the full year (FY18) of 5 percentage points compared to FY17 - from 22% to 17% (a net decrease of 22.7%). A cost-benefit analysis extrapolated from the trials stipulates that if the new technology were in use for a full 12 months, when applied to FY17 full year data, a 10 percentage point reduction in dilution would represent a net 45.4% decrease, and would result in AUD8.2M (USD5.9) additional ore recovered, with AUD4.5M (USD3.2M) less spent on wasted cost of haulage and processing of diluted ore. As a result, return per tonne would increase 22%, from AUD87 (USD63) to AUD106 (USD77.1). INTRODUCTION Dilution – planned and unplanned – remains a significant cost impairment in the mining process. A series of trials were held over a six-month period in FY18 which established the cost-benefit of new technology as it applies to the alignment accuracy of production drilling rigs in underground mining, thus confirming its ability to limit drilling as one of the causes of dilution. The trials identified three underlying factors affecting drilling accuracy, measurable by blast-hole deviation surveys of planned vs actual toe data. These were; rig alignment error, collar location change/error, and in-hole deviation. The trials involved a comparison of existing rig setup processes and technology, with the new technology (Minnovare’s Production Optimiser system). The trials were undertaken in the same environment; an operating underground gold mine - Cracow Gold Mine. The comparison first revealed the extent to which rig alignment impacts blast-hole deviation. Secondly, the new technology was proven to limit rig alignment error, thereby reducing average blast-hole deviation and increasing the number of holes drilled within tolerance by 160%.
