Thiosulphate is an attractive alternative reagent to cyanide for processing gold ores. It is relatively cheap and non-toxic, forms relatively strong gold and silver complexes, and readily leaches gold ores in ammoniacal solutions, catalysed by Cu(II). It is particularly suited to carbonaceous ores where the recovery of gold by cyanide is poor. However research over the past 20 years has identified a number of issues and impediments that must be understood or overcome before an overall process can be demonstrated as practical and economic for typical oxidised gold ores. This paper reviews our current understanding of thiosulphate chemistry and mechanism of gold dissolution, and discusses the stability of thiosulphate and polythionates. It then reviews the results of leaching various gold ores that have been reported in the literature, discusses gold recovery options, and considers environmental and toxicity issues. Some of the issues that require further research include decreasing the oxidation of thiosulphate by Cu(II) or other oxidants, increasing the extraction of gold compared to cyanide, and understanding the variation in gold recovery between ores. More work is also required to minimise the effect of polythionates on gold recovery using resins or alternative absorbents, to improve the elution of copper and gold from resins, and to recycle or minimise the concentration of reagents.

An analytical technique is described to identify areas of structural disturbance to coal and interseam strata in coal measures. It is based on exploration borehole data which records seam intersections and interseam lithologies. Computerised data bases have been developed to allow processing of large quantities of borehole records. The case study discussed is located in a tectonic setting dominated by thrust faulting. It provides a mechanism for the identification of low angle and bedding plane faults. In addition it allows the preparation of plans showing the areal distribution of the thrust sheets in the statigraphic section throughout the mine prospect. The technique requires the identification of normal undisturbed depositional thickness of coal seams and interseams to be determined. This is done for coal by the identification of coal ply distribution over the area. For interseam lithologies it is based on sedimentological modelling of lithology distributions, related back to the original depositional environments. Variations from the expected values are interpreted as structural Deformations.

Due to the haphazard application of static tests in South Africa, several methods and interpretations have been followed. This has resulted in confusion amongst practitioners and regulators in the use and validity of these methods. Research was done over a two-year period to define standardised methods and interpretation of results. This included laboratory testing and continuous consultation with all interested parties throughout the country. The research yielded a modified ABA, based on several existing methods. The methodology includes AP determination using hydrogen peroxide, and an analysis of the supernatant by ICP. This has the advantage of not only registering reactive sulfur, but also provides the NAG pH, that enhances the interpretation and QC of the tests. Analysis of the supernatant provides an indication of heavy metal solubilisation, should acid conditions arise. One hundred and seventeen samples were compared to Leco S analyses and provided a good correlation. The Leco values were slightly elevated due to the reporting of total S as opposed to æreactive SÆ. The NP method deviates from the usual methodology, in that H2SO4 is used (to provide a field analogy) and the fact that a 24-hour stabilisation period is allowed before back-titration. The latter modification appears to prevent psuedo-buffering by transient phases. These methods have also been tested for repeatability and prove to be robust. A very simple macro-driven spreadsheet, æABACUSÆ, was also developed. This spreadsheet allows the entry of basic data and provides a detailed interpretation and graphical display of typical ABA data. In cases where drill holes are used, the Pennsylvanian approach of volume calculation can also be done with ABACUS. The results of the research have been distributed to interested parties in South Africa and it is hoped that these methods and their application will find widespread acceptance.

The Circum-Pacific Map Project is a cooperative international effort to prepare and publish geological, geophysical and mineral resource maps of the Pacific Basin and adjacent land areas. Earth scientists representing 180 organizations from more than 40 Pacific Rim countries are participating in the work. The project is directed by a committee established 14 years ago as an activity of the non-profit Circuin-Pacific Council for Energy and Mineral Resources. Technical and cartographic support is provided by the U.S. Geological Survey. The Circum-Pacific Map Project is organized under five regional panels of experts on the geology and resources of the four quadrants of the Pacific and Antarctica. A series of five 1:10,000,000-scale regional maps and a 1:17,000,000-scale map of the entire Project area, the Pacific Basin Sheet, provide the cartographic base. Forty-eight individual sheets are planned and thirty have been published in eight different series, including base maps, geography, plate tectonics, geology, energy resources, mineral resources, tectonics and geodynamics. Additional special single-sheet thematic maps on the Pacific Basin base have been published and are planned for a total of more than 50 individual sheets.

The mining industry is beginning to adopt quality systems based on the requirements of International Standards for quality assurance, such as the ISO 9000 series. Indications from similar industries are that considerable benefits are to be had from their adoption. This paper describes the use of the International Standard ISO 9001 for quality assurance within BUKA Minerals Limited. This provided guidance for the development of a clear statement providing agreement on the processes to be followed and the outputs required when dealing with outside service providers. Discussion focuses on the interaction with BUKAÆs consultants and contractors during the specification stage, resulting from the application of quality assurance techniques. Risk analysis was used to identify and manage the risks associated with the companyÆs contract for geotechnical and mine design services and the tender for a mine development program of work during the feasibility stage of the project. Setting acceptance controls for the deliverables from such contracts is traditionally fraught with difficulty. BUKA used Failure Mode and Effect Analysis for exposing underlying risks that were not effectively being countered. The briefs were reviewed and additional controls were developed to manage the risk. These controls have provided clearer instructions to the consultants and contractors, indicated audit points for the company and defined the deliverables. There exists within the company, and among its outside service providers, a clearer understanding of what is to be achieved and how it will be measured. The process has imparted considerable confidence to both parties on how the work will proceed and what outputs are to be provided. Some discussion is provided on how quality principles are being applied throughout industry and commerce, generally, and how they may apply to the mining industry. The paper argues that, far from being an appendix to the tendering process, Risk Management should be a mandatory step integrated into the definitions of the work.

Technical measurements are an integral part of research and development of new technical devices. Now they are also an integral part of production too, especially as a part of quality control systems. More new problems started with they applications up, like storing and following preservation of big data files. Many problems are also with processing of the measurement results, especially to be up to standards of ISO 9000 normative. It includes basic data about the measurement (structured data) and measurement outputs (huge data streams). Using database systems looks as good idea, because of structured measurement data and they processing. They were developed more concepts of database measurement system support during the research project MSM 272300012. It was decided to develop specialised measurement systems, on the base of experiments and experiences with they use in operating conditions. It proved to be wrong to develop general system, because of compound operating and long response of the system. And it is not possible to use these systems for mass production systems. The problem of data storing is not as easy to be answered, because of dependence on used technical devices. During realisation the measurement system for gearbox noise measurement are data stored to the database, because used analyser system PULSE (Brnel and Kjµr Co) is open structure and can cooperate with other software systems. Anyhow the data streams are not longer (after compression) than the Memo data type, in practical use increases the data file too fast (about hundreds MB daily). Therefore we must include a special supervisory system for administration and creating data files to the system. Nevertheless the used system MS-Access supports data files up to 1 GB, for practical application is better if the file size do not exceed the capacity of CD-ROM disc.

In cases where coarse gold is present in a deposit, it is usual to use the screen fire assay (SFA) method to analyse the samples. There is no doubt that this method is more accurate than the standard fire assay (FA) and reduces the risk to have a systematic bias. Nevertheless, the difference between the analytical errors of both methods can be glossed over when the overall sampling error is added to obtain the measurement error. In that case, the advantage of the SFA cannot justify its higher cost.The current paper attempts to address this question in the case of a gold ore deposit with visible coarse gold in various sampling situations (drill core sampling in exploration, blasthole or chip sampling in mining exploitation). The overall measurement error is estimated taking into account the analytical error and all the sampling error components following the Pierre GyÆs theory of sampling.Firstly, only the last sampling stage is considered when the pulverised sample is processed either to obtain one analysis sample for a FA or to be screened and subsampled for a SFA. The calculated measurement error clearly shows the advantage of the SFA specifically in presence of coarse gold. Secondly, the half core sampling is studied to explain the observed discrepancies when controlling the second half core. Finally, the blasthole sampling is treated using in situ heterogeneity models to show that the relative advantage of the SFA is hidden by the large overall sampling error.In conclusion, the choice of the assaying method is discussed at the light of the overall measurement error and in accordance to the analysis objective.CITATION:Brochot, S, 2012. The dispersion pattern of heavy metals in soil and water is a consequence of complex geophysical and geochemical processes. Metal release from mining sites and subsequent migration occur primarily through acid mine drainage and erosion of waste and tailings dumps. Water plays a significant role in heavy metal mobilisation. Whilst it acts as a storage buffer for the pollutants, it is also the medium in which most of the reactions take place, and is undoubtedly the most significant transport vector in the pollution process. The intrinsic properties of the acidic drainage such as chemical composition, speciation of key mineral components, redox potential and pH are master variables controlling metal release, transport, deposition, reactivity and availability to biota. The mobility of heavy metals is strongly increased by acidification from acid mine drainage, and the discharge of these metals into the receiving waters results in numerous physical, chemical and biological responses in which the environment can affect the metal and vice versa. The result is an overwhelming number of association/dissociation, substitution, adsorption/desorption reactions, giving rise to a complex migration pattern. The attempt to understand and describe the dispersion pattern of heavy metals is complicated by the nature and level of interaction between the geochemical and hydrodynamic processes that generate and control the movement of the pollutants in the geosphere. Transport models which can be used to predict the behaviour of metal pollutants in a natural environment are still in the initial phases of development and their application to real life situations is limited. The Biochemical Cycle adds another dimension to the mobility of heavy metals. Metals form an important component of the food chain for man and plants. Biological uptake of metals from the bedrock and soil by organisms can result in migration paths very difficult to follow. Biodegradation or assimilation is just a tip of the iceberg.

The Queensland Department of Mines believes it is in the best interests of the gold mining industry to reduce and control the environmental impacts from gold mining since that is the community expectation.The Department of Mines has set as a special condition of many recently granted Mining Leases the requirement to submit a "Description of Operations" for the approval of the Minister, prior to commencing initial mining operations. In order to facilitate compliance by lessees with this condition an explanation is given of the reasons for this condition and how it is intended to achieve the objective of environmental protection.Environmental impact is operations dependent. Impact on a lease will vary quite significantly with the scale and methods employed. Before a lease can be granted and mined it is therefore necessary to have this information. The parameters of operations most critical both in terms of environment impact and economic viability are worked out and agreed with the lessee before the lease is granted. An approved description of operations which is required now, prior to the start of mining, provides the details of that agreement for the security and benefit of the lessee and the inspectors. It also provides the details of operations and environmental controls which were not required prior to the grant of the lease but are nevertheless required and necessary for compliance with the environmental standards.

At the outset I want to thank you for inviting a representative of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa to address you on the subject of mining and its future at this, the 13th Congress of the Council of Mining and Metallurgical Institutions. It is indeed a pleasure and an honour to be here. As many of you will recall, four years ago I, as the then President of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, had the privilege of hosting and welcoming you to the 12th Congress, the third such congress hosted by South Africa. The late Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, President of the 1930 Congress - the first to be held in South Africa - in his opening address foresaw the mining industry as "the most potent factor in spreading the benefits of civilisation over the sub-continent." We have come a long way since those halcyon days but, as I noted four years ago, it still remains true that mines have been, and will continue to be, the missionaries of development in many, if not most, of the Third World countries. I have been asked to address you on the subject of "mining" and to let my imagination roam widely so that delegates can leave the congress with a broader vision than they brought on arrival. It is a tall order and in my attempt to fulfil it I ask you to cast your minds back 120 years to a sultry, rustic day when the first diamond was discovered in South Africa at the now famous town of Kimberley. At that time the South African economy, predominantly pastoral, was still at subsistence level. Almost overnight the ensuing diamond rush turned the then British- owned northern Cape Colony's semi-desert scene into a hive of mining activity, every prospector bent on making his instant fortune. It was very little different, I am sure, to the gold rushes that hit California in 18+8, Australia in 1851, New Zealand in the 1860s. and the Yukon in the 1890s.

On Sunday morning 7th November, 1976, at approximately 2-25 a.m., smoke was discovered issuing from the 1912 m long belt drift at Appin Colliery. A Clouth steel cord rubber belt approximately 940 mm in width had been installed in the drift in 1963 on the basis that no fire resistant steel cord belt was then available to operate on a single lift at the load and on the 160 gradient of the drift. Investigation showed that the belt drift was on fire and the usually downcasting drift was upcasting. Immediate fire fighting and rescue operations were instituted and the drift was sealed off. High expansion foam was pushed into the drift from the surface and the fire was brought under control. Recovery work resulted in the fire being put out and the drift open for walking traffic by, S-P0 am., on Wednesday 10th November, 1976. lie experience gained during the fire fighting and recovery operations led to recommendations in regard to future use of high expansion foam.

In their description of the post-mine leaching of galena and marmatite at Broken Hill, Messrs. Garretty and Blanchard1 find themselves unable to account satisfactorily for the fact that the more usual order of solubility of these two minerals is here reversed, and that the galena is leached more rapidly than the marmatite. An explanation of this somewhat unusual phenomena is perhaps provided by the recent work of Garrels.2 Garrels showed that the presence of Cl' ions in Pb-Zn solutions, in concentrations in excess of 0·1 N, rendered the zinc less soluble than the lead. It seems possible that Cl' ions may be present in the underground waters of the North Broken Hill Mine in sufficient concentration to cause such reversal in the relative solubility of the lead and zinc sulphides.Thus the analysis of "water believed to be free from contamination by mine drainage" given by Messrs. Garretty and Blanchard (p. 158 of their paper) is as follows:Total solids in solution 878 grains per gallon...164 grams of Cl per gallon is equivalent to 2· 3394 grams of Cl' per litre, which is equivalent to 0066 N.This concentration is approaching a value sufficient to cause a reversal of the relative solubility of zinc and lead salts; and it seems probable that there will be parts of the ore-body where locally the Cl' concentration will greatly exceed this figure. At such points the lead salts would be more soluble than the zinc salts, so that the galena would be leached more rapidly than the marmatite. With the dilution of such Cl'-rich waters with water containing less Cl', the Cl' concentration would fall below 0·1 N, and the lead would be reprecipitated, while the zinc would stay in solution, as, for example, in the water analysis quoted. Anyone who has driven backwards using only their rear view mirrors knows how difficult it is to avoid spinning the steering wheel the wrong way. So why run your mine that way? Traditionally Reconciliation has focused on the past performance of the mine. In this paper we make a case for Prognostication û the act of forecasting or predicting something in the future from present indications or signs. Reconciliation is a common activity carried out at most mines around the world. Countless geologists and engineers spend hours poised in front of spreadsheets diligently comparing how their resource/reserve model, grade control, and survey pick ups compare to what was actually produced. The result is usually a group of factors, which are applied to future estimates in an attempt to better predict how the operation may perform. Unfortunately, if the road ahead isnÆt the same as what you have just been down, youÆll be æoff-roadingÆ in no time! An alternative is to constantly collect and analyse key measurements that are used to calibrate critical estimates in an iterative process. When variations occur, they are analysed and corrective action is taken to ensure the estimates and measurements realign. In this way the estimates become forecasts and can then form the basis for decision making to ensure that what does happen in the future will match the plan or schedule. By automating this process, some mines have been able to be proactive on a daily basis in order to improve the overall performance of the operation. This paper outlines the key estimates and measurements used for reconciliation, details the characteristics of an automated web based information management system to facilitate the process and provides some insights about how mining operations might move beyond reconciliation.

The Hodgkinson Province forms the northern part of the Tasman Orogen and contains the most extensive outcrops of Silurian - Devonian rocks in Queensland. Deep-water, marine siliciclastic sequences (mainly turbidites) dominate most of the province except near the western margin where mafic volcanics and fossiliferous limestones characterise much of the succession. It is difficult to apply normal stratigraphic mapping techniques to the Hodgkinson Province because of extensive stratal disruption by numerous thrust faults, the general lack of stratigraphic and structural markers, and the unfossiliferous nature of much of the succession. Nevertheless, several distinct units have been delineated although their internal stratigraphy or boundary or superpositional relationships are uncertain. Ordovician strata, as well as two major unconformities have been recognised in the western part of the province. Several models have been proposed to explain the evolution of the Hodgkinson Province. Although there is no general agreement most recent researchers favour an extensional tectonic regime.

In southeastern China, offshore Tertiarybasins are buried underneath the broad continental shelf areas from Taiwan to Hainan Island. These basins bear relatively similar characteristics of structure, stratigraphy and tectonics. Based on age and tectonic framework, these Tertiary basins are divided into two groups of Paleogene basin and Neogene basin (Fig.1 and 2). However, observations of extensional structures indicate that the Paleogene basins are rift basins; and the predominant structural features are NE-SW trending half grabens and fault blocks. In a regional scale, these half grabens and adjacent uplifts represent a horst-and-graben structural style. Neogene basins are downwarp basins lying on the tilting continental shelf. Late Tertiary sequences are relatively undeformed but locally with minor folding and thrusting during the Pliocene-Pleistocene.Seismic stratigraphy and well data indicate that the Early Tertiary strata are commonly tilted and disturbed as nonmarine to marginal marine facies deposited in the wedge-shaped half grabens; the Late Tertiary strata are generally parallel undisturbed marine facies accumulated in the enlarged downwarp basins overlying the infilled half grabens. In general, three major regional unconformities formed during the Late Cretaceous, the Late Eocene and the Middle Miocene. Widespread extrusive basaltic flows are commonly associated with these unconformities.

It is indeed a pleasure to be here this morning to open the 4th Mill Operators' Conference. It is no mean feat to organise such an event and I would like to congratulate the committee for the work that they have done. I am sure that the Conference will be an outstanding success. I welcome overseas visitors and hope that they gain and share in the openness of this Conference. There is personal satisfaction for me to speak to you as a mining engineer addressing a large group of metallurgists and mill operators. I would have thought that it would be impossible for a mere mining engineer to inform a metallurgist of anything. I will desist from using such derogatory terms as "xanthate munchers", "bubble makers" and "glorified mathematicians". Terms of endearment as these may not be seen with much equanimity. Such is the warm association that the two professions have enjoyed over the years. The economic climate that we at present face is a major problem to all of us. I wonder how many people here come from mining operations that are in trouble financially or that are cutting back in one form or another. This is the recession that we needed to have. When the world's greatest treasurer can tell us that then we truly have a lot to fear. The present downturn can be seen as a normal adjustment in the cycle of our business. Yet the world does not experience such severe adjustments as frequently as we experience ours. The root cause for the regular adjustments can be placed at the feet of inflation. Until the politicians of this country of ours can come to grips with inflation, we will continue to experience downturns on a 5 to 7 year cycle. This, in my opinion, is the basic reason why we appear to experience more downturns than the rest of the world. We simply price ourselves out of the market. This takes about 5 to 7 years to be highlighted and then we need to make adjustments. However, this recession is worldwide. The adjustments usually take the form of redundancies, retrenchments and early retirements. What is the solution?

Over the past 18 months the De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd operations have made a concerted effort to move away from using the traditional shock tube initiating systems. These systems are being systematically replaced by the use of electronic delay detonators (EDD). Various trials were conducted in both host rock and kimberlite rock masses to improve tunnel advance as well as to optimise delay timing during trough openings (Ngoma et al, 1999; Mohle, 1999; Baltus, 2000). The high cost of EDDÆs, when compared with traditional initiation systems, led to a number of detailed studies being conducted on the mines where EDDÆs were being used. These studies aimed to quantify the additional benefits when blasting with electronic detonators. The studies showed that the change was justified on the basis of increased quality control and reliability gained through the use of EDDÆs. However, these benefits attract other related benefits, like fragmentation control, and backbreak reductions. When compared to the shock tube initiating systems the increased development face advance and the reduction of oversize during production blasting using EDDs, compared favourably to the less costly systems. As blasting engineers gained experience and confidence in the use of the system bigger blasts were initiated in mass under-cut blasts and slot raise development, by using multiple hole firing and second delay periods between holes. In the open pit and sublevel open stope mining methods the control of the fragmentation distribution and the effect of the mass of explosive detonated during a blast is detrimental to the loading and hauling production rates and the stability of the rock mass behind the blast. With a stable rock mass the bench cutting can be executed to establish steeper overall slope angles leading to large cost savings due to a reduction in waste stripping. It is the purpose of this paper to indicate through quantification that the use of the EDDs as an initiating system improves all-round blasting performances and assists in meeting customer requirements. In an effort to improve returns to shareholders, the Australian Mining Industry has consolidated considerably over the past decade or so. Technical services at mines have been re-structured, whilst those at corporate offices have been all but eliminated. A recent study of the role of the geologist in BM Alliance Coal Operations Pty Ltd (BMA), showed the adverse impact on the companyÆs performance due to a lack of geologists. With an education campaign, to demonstrate the contribution of geologists to the æbottom lineÆ and in increasing the options available to the company, the value of the geology role became better understood. The implications of the loss of invaluable corporate knowledge, when long serving geologists left the company, also became clear. Steps have since been taken to increase the numbers of company geologists, particularly on mine sites. In common with other sectors of the mining industry, the Australian coal industry is experiencing a critical shortage of experienced coal geologists, as companies have found in recent recruitment efforts. This is further evidence that the recommendations from the recent study by World Competitive Practices, commissioned by The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, æRising to the ChallengeÆ have not been adopted. People, and the mineral resource base, are the assets from which mining companies gain a sustainable competitive advantage. Geologists, as the nexus between the resource base and people, are in a unique position to enhance the profitability of their companies. To maximise their contribution to the industry, and ensure that they receive due recognition, geologists must adopt a more commercial approach in their work and take a front foot stance in promoting their value to management. Geology is a core competency for all mining companies. The tendency for companies to outsource this function, to the detriment of the company geologist role, is not sustainable in the longer term. TodayÆs geologists need to work closely with management, technical and human resource professionals, universities and schools to ensure their significant value is well understood, and that the industry can attract, train and retain new recruits through the implementation of graduate programs and company career paths.

Why is it so difficult? Why are there differences throughout the resources industry in how reconciliation factors are reported and calculated? Why is there no standard formula to use? These are common questions asked when mining companies try to compare reconciliation results across operations or attempt to undertake internal or corporate governance reporting processes. For many mining companies the calculation of reconciliation factors is often a very time and resource intensive part of mandatory reconciliation reporting. Some major mining companies, that move millions of tonnes of material per annum, dedicate full time resources to the calculation of reconciliation factors. The willingness of these companies to set aside resources demonstrates the value that operations place on good reconciliation reporting. Reconciliation is about measuring the variance between two like measures at different points along the mining sequence. It can be undertaken between predictive models, forecast plans and actual measured performance. Calculations are used to derive a variance between two sections within the mining sequence, with the result being commonly known in the resources industry as a æfactorÆ. Mining companies use the calculation of reconciliation factors as key performance indices (KPIs) to provide a æhealth checkÆ of their operation, with variances often pointing to issues either with the accuracy of the original estimate or the quality of the measurement being used in the comparison. There are many reconciliation factors that can be calculated and reported. This paper will set out, clarify and provide a recommended standard means of calculating each specific factor that, where adopted by a company, will ensure compliance with the international reporting codes, such as JORC. Using case studies from Rio Tinto Group (Rio Tinto) and BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (æBMAÆ), and the authors experience across a wide range of mine sites, the outline of a generic solution for tracking a parcel of material from the pit through to the port along with appropriate reconciliation factors is provided. The intention of proposing standardised reconciliation factor terminology and methodology is to provide the foundations of a system to enable communication and comparison across different commodities, companies and mines sites.

"A personal account of my journey from a student from suburban Melbourne in the 1970s through 40 odd years in and around the mining industry including the important events that have moulded my thinking and, as result, have formed the guiding principles of the mining contracting business and related entities that make up the Byrnecut Group. On reflection the game of chance has played a big part in the journey, from the selection of initial study based on my parents financial capability and the one and only offer of early employment by Western Mining Corporation where the formative phase of my career took place in what was the vibrant can do environment that existed in Kambalda in the 1970s and early 1980s. Subsequently the unplanned meeting with Frank Lubbock drawing me back to Kalgoorlie from Fiji in 1987 and the resultant formation of a private mining contracting business, the excitement of the mid 1980s Kalgoorlie mining environment followed by the turmoil of the 1987 stock market crash where business survival was the game, resulting in a relationship with the German based Thyssen Group.Thereafter the development of a large privately owned international multifaceted mining services group and the principles behind that growth. These include: development of strategic personnel and retention of those personnel cashflow management and debt within a private company scenario recognising opportunity for synergetic growth but insisting on market forces driving those business elements, as opposed to internal divisions group-wide sustainable business systems, particularly in relation to leading safety and training processes innovation and renewal to provide the elusive advantage in a competitive market the role of entrepreneurial small businesses in development of technology.The above principles combine to make a margin in a cut throat contracting environment, competing on the world stage against other contractors and owner mining options.CITATION:Coughlan, S, 2014.
