In this study, flotation tests were performed to investigate behavior of enargite and chalcopyrite ores from different sources synthetically mixed for separation of enargite. Flotation parameters including; pH, reagents concentration and type and flotation time were controlled to obtain an enargite concentrate with high As and chalcopyrite concentrate and final tailings with As content below 0.5 mass%. The copper ore bearing enargite mineral contained 5.87 mass% As and 16.50 mass% Cu while the chalcopyrite bearing ore contained 0.32 mass% As and 21.63 mass% Cu. The two ore samples were mixed at 7:3 (enargite: chalcopyrite) by weight ratio to prepare a mixed ore sample with arsenic content at 3.16 mass% and 18.25 mass% Cu for the flotation study. For enargite single ore flotation, the 38?75 µm size fraction showed that over 98% enargite was selectively recovered within 5 min at slurry pH of 4.0 and arsenic content in the final tailings was reduced to 0.22 mass%. In mix ore (enargite+chalcopyrite) flotation, 97% of enargite was first removed at pH 4 followed by chalcopyrite flotation at pH 8, and over 95% recovery was achieved in 15 min flotation time. Arsenic content in the final tailings was reduced to 0.1 mass%.

Automated mineralogy methods and tools, such as the Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA) and the QEMSCAN, are now widely used for ore characterization, process design and optimization. Several case studies published recently demonstrate that large gains can be obtained through grinding and flotation optimization guided by automated mineralogy data. However, since automated mineralogy can only provide the information pointing to where the process gains can be made, it does not directly impact the production gain. Thus, a question is often asked: how to value the contribution of automated mineralogy to process improvement of a particular plant. This appears to be a difficult question. On close examination however, it is found that this is essentially a question of the value of information and it is reasonably well documented in various other industries. Hubbard (2010), in chapter 7 ?Measuring the Value of Information?, dealt with exactly this type of problem. The value of information is the reduced risk of an investment and opportunity loss. The methods Hubbard developed can be applied to estimate the value of automated mineralogy, as well as metallurgical test work, which also produces information that reduces the risk of investment. This paper first introduces Hubbard?s theory on the value of information and how to measure it. It then applies his methods to estimate the value of automated mineralogy, using Anglo Platinum?s fine grinding project as an example. In this case, the value of automated mineralogy includes the reduction in investment risk worth US$ 62.5million, in project rejection worth US$197 million and in opportunity loss worth US$320 million. In the end, a general model is developed to allow the simulation of the value of automated mineralogy in different mining operations constrained by different parameters.

Fine coal obtained from Kailuan mine served as the processing object of this study. This material was difficult to separate. A flotation rate experiment was designed to investigate the process distribution characteristics of size and density during fine coal flotation. Size and density analyses of five clean were studied. The mineral morphology of flotation rate experiment cleaning was observed through scanning electron microscopy. The fractions -0.074+0.045 mm and -0.045 mm exhibited the best practical floatability and presented the highest combustible body recovery rates, but the selectivity and natural floatability of these two fractions were the worst. The - 0.074 mm fraction has contaminated the clean coal from the early stage of flotation, and the cumulative clean coal ash of -0.074 mm reached up to 17.20%. The low and middle-density classes displayed varying flotation behavior, but the flotation yield difference was only nearly 3%. The middle-density class caused the clean coal to have high ash content. The poor selectivity of fine coals, middle-density fraction, and fine mud resulted in high-ash clean coals during flotation. Thus, improving the selectivity of fine coal, restraining the flotation of fine mud, and grinding the coal to decrease the middle density mass fraction to liberate clean coals can yield high-quality clean coals through flotation.

The study is devoted to the earth's surface protection and is aimed at improving the ecological safety of the territories in the mining industry. Identification of the diagnostic signs and quantitative criteria for the disturbance of soil geochemical properties and water chemistry represent an important scientific task in anthropogenically disturbed landscapes in the context of comprehensive exploitation of mineral resources. The study is aimed at geological and ecological analysis of the migration peculiarities of the man-caused chemicals and elements in soils and soil-surface water environment. We received new results. These results assist in estimating the peculiar features of distribution of heavy metals total and mobile forms (Cu, Ni, Zn, Pb), depending on the physical and chemical parameters of the disturbed soils. We obtained the empirical relationships describing heavy metals localization and accumulation processes depending on buffer properties of soils (pH, N, Corg), salinization factor and contamination with oil products. Anthropogenic geochemical barriers spontaneously formed in the area of industrial facilities were revealed in the territories of industrial facilities. These barriers prevent the further distribution of elements and pollutants in the landscapes. This makes it possible to create their artificial analogues in order to limit further migration of pollutants and to immobilize valuable components. Analysis of diagnostic features of soils geoecological state and factors influencing the distribution of heavy metals in the soil-surface water geosystem allows the identification of the geochemical barrier type with the aim of elements immobilization in a limited area of the territory. We applied modern physical and chemical methods of analysis, a package of statistics programs in Excel and modeling techniques. The proposed approach is innovative and therefore can be attractive. The accumulation of useful components losses in mineral resources exploitation is a promising reserve for their recovery from the soil with specifically arranged properties. The methodology of this research is also promising for the prediction of the environmental emergencies of the anthropogenic nature. This is consistent with the requirements of state control of environmental safety in the course of comprehensive exploitation of mineral resources.

"The paper contains description of a new project in Russia - gold-processing plant at Aleksandrovskoye deposit (start up in September, 2013). The paper includes a brief description of plant flowsheet, data for material composition and technological properties of ore, as well as information about the achieved parameters of ore processing over the first months of plant operation. The project is interesting because a new semiautogenous mill and a ball mill were purchased on the basis of SAGDesign Consulting Group recommendations after the testing of ore samples characterizing the deposit according to specific years of operation. The plant has relatively small design capacity - 750 000 tpa, but nevertheless is the biggest gold-processing plant in the territory of Zabaikalsky region. Major valuable component in the ore is gold, silver is recovered as a by-product. The ores are very hard to grind. The design grinding flowsheet includes a semiautogenous mill operating in closed circuit with a screen, and a ball mill operating in a closed circuit with hydrocyclones (SAB). Process technology includes gravity processing and flotation with subsequent cyanide leaching of concentrates. Mill operation analysis and conclusions about the compliance of the achieved values to target ones are shown, as well as the accuracy of SAGDesign method when applied to very hard ores of Aleksandrovkoye deposit are presented in this paper. Basic directions of technological flowsheet optimization are also given."

Conventionally, beneficiation in Indian coal washeries is done using dense medium cyclones upto the size of 0.5 mm. Coal fines below 0.5 mm size are extensively cleaned by froth flotation. There are many problems associated with flotation of Indian coals, e.g. poor response of coal particles to flotation, misplacement of fine high-ash material to froth, loss of good quality coarser coals (within ?0.5 mm size range) to tailing streams, high cost of reagents, water contamination, etc. In addition, sophisticated control systems for efficient management of the fines washing circuits are needed. Thus, there is an escalation in the capital and processing costs. In view of these facts, studies were carried out to establish the cleaning potential of dense medium cyclones for beneficiation of fine coal down to a size of 0.1 mm, essentially aimed at reducing the load on fine coal circuits mainly comprising of flotation. ROM Coal (in the size range of -2 + 0.1 mm) obtained from JogtaOCM,Jharia coalfield possessing relatively low ash (about 21%) was used in this study. Purpose for using low ash coal was to further lower, its ash content down to 8% which is comparable, to the ash content of imported coal. After characterization studies, nine tests were carried out on the prepared feed sample for its beneficiation using a dense medium cyclone of non-conventional design (very low cone angle and longer barrel), by varying its apex and vortex finder diameters. The efficiency of separation has been evaluated using Tromp curves. It could be established that it is possible to produce a clean coal of 8% ash, with Ep value of 0.044, using Jogta OCM coal by treating it in a modified dense medium cyclone. Fankou Lead-Zinc Mine produced pyrite concentrate (P.C.) from the zinc tailings by rougher and scavenger flotation before 2010, with the averaged S grade of 40.54% at recovery of 79.34% ( to the feed of S circuit). On the one hand, the economic value of P.C. increases with its purity, on the other hand, when the S grade of P.C. feed to sulfuric acid manufacturer is over 47%, the pyrite cinder can reach a high Fe grade of 62% which can be directly sold as iron concentrate. On this background, engineers in Fankou Mine set the P.C. with S grade of 47% as target. The direct way to reach that goal was to clean the rougher P.C.. Lots of cleaning flotation tests were conducted and the compromised strategy was to produce two ranks P.C. with the S grade of 47% and 38% at the recovery of 44.20% and 36.17%, respectively. The dual-product flowsheet was successfully industrialized in 2010. In order to further improve the quality of P.C., gravity separation was introduced into the flowsheet. The numerical simulation and separation tests were performed to evaluate the beneficiation and classification performance of hydrocyclone as it treated the rougher P.C.. It was shown that the underflow of hydrocyclone could addressed the S grade of 47%, and the finer size overflow could also be enriched to P.C. with S grade of 47% by flotation, due to the contained pyrite with well liberation. That is to say, with the ingenious addition of hydrocyclone to treat the rough P.C., single P.C. with S grade of 47% could be achieved. The new flotation-gravity separation flowsheet was commissioned to produce the high quality P.C. at the end of 2013. The averaged S grade is 47.20% at recovery of 82.26% in 2014. The two steps flowsheet improvement maximizes the enterprise benefits and leads to simple utilization of Fe in pyrite in downstream industry.

In the current energy-sensitive world, sustainable development in the mineral industry will require new, better and more efficient processes. Novel comminution methods, which offer the prospect of achieving the required outcomes of size reduction and mineral liberation at lower energy consumption, are continually being sought. In the past five years, extensive research using high voltage pulse electrical comminution technology has been carried out at the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC), in collaboration with selFrag AG. The major outcome of this research is the development of the concept of pre-weakening ore particles by electrical comminution procedures to reduce the energy consumption in the downstream grinding circuit. The research has also verified the preferential liberation of valuable minerals by electrical comminution. Given the advantages, several potential applications of electrical comminution in the mineral industry are proposed, including AG/SAG mill feed pre-weakening, pebble treatment, ball mill feed pre-weakening, early recovery of the liberated valuable minerals, crack/micro crack generation for improved leaching, and smelter slag treatment. For the mineral industry to utilize electrical comminution, two emerging issues identified from the research need to be address. They are the energy consumption by electrical comminution in the locked cycle treatment and the facilities scale up necessary to move this technology from the laboratory to the plant. Most of the iron ore washing plants set up in India consist of sizing of the ore by dry / wet screening, washing and classification by screw classifiers followed by multi-stage hydrocycloning of screw classifiers? overflow. The underflow of the hydrocyclones forms the concentrate which is used for pellets making. As the cut-point of hydrocyclones is generally at 20 microns, relatively lower diameter cyclones in a cluster with parallel feeding are used. This is found to, often, result in choking of the spigots, at times, by extraneous material as well reporting along with the slurry. It is observed to lead to sub-optimum performance of the cyclones with loss of iron values into cyclone overflow and thereafter into tailings. Analysis of data of an operating beneficiation plant (Beneficiation Plant - 1, BP - 1) of M/s Jindal South West (JSW) Steel Limited, Karnataka, India over a period of one year indicated that weight recovery of the concentrate from two-stage hydrocycloning was 45% (with respect to feed to the cyclones) and assaying 63.43% Fe, 4.43% SiO2 and 2.32% Al2O3. CSIR - National Metallurgical Laboratory - Madras Centre (NML - MC), India developed flotation process for processing screw classifier overflow with a view to improve the recovery of ultrafine iron values from it. Detailed investigations at laboratory scale flotation column and on-site pilot plant trials proved that the production of the concentrate and productivity of the plant could be enhanced by adopting reverse cationic column flotation technology. It was established that a typical screw classifier overflow analyzing 60.54% Fe, 5.95% SiO2 and 3.67% Al2O3 could be upgraded to 64.21% Fe, 2.64% SiO2 and 2.20% Al2O3 with 82.7% weight and 84.7% Fe recovery. This translates into an increase of 80% in weight recovery of the concentrate compared to what is being obtained, at present, by two-stage cycloning. It had an added advantage of reduced SiO2 in the concentrate. Thus, SiO2 in the final concentrate could be reduced to 2.64% from 4.43% by adopting column flotation. The concentrate so generated meets the stringent specifications, especially in terms of alumina in it(should be less than 2.50%) for pellets making. Later, JSW Steel Limited set up the flotation plant in BP - 1 based on the process developed by NML - MC and was commissioned in 2010. The paper presents the results of the research on the development of gravity concentrates processing technology (gold grade is from 50 g/t to 1 kg/t and over) using intensive cyanidation with gold recovery to pregnant solutions followed by precipitation of metals from them using various methods. Test work and pilot plant results confirm that a new developed hydrodynamic regime provides an efficient treatment of gravity concentrates of polydisperse composition without their grinding and preliminary desliming. The resulting pregnant and washing solutions are amenable to metals recovery using electrowinning, cementation onto zinc dust and CIS. Cone plants with a lower ball valve for cyanidation of unground gravity concentrates developed by IRGIREDMET JSC have been successfully tested at a number of Russian operations. Currently, a modular plant equipped with gold electric precipitation from pregnant solution unit is successfully operated at a Russian gold processing plant. Cyanidation of the resulting high-grade gravity concentrate is carried out at the concentration of 8-10 g/L NaCN and 10 g/L NaOH. Gold recovery to the solution is 97-98%. Electrowinning is carried out in flow cell GNC-40M. In this case, the residual gold concentration yield is 0.3-0.5 mg/L. Also, a modular plant for relatively low-grade middlings (50-100 g/t Au) of gravity concentration has been introduced. The concentration of NaCN and NaOH is 2-3 g/L and 1.5-2 g/L, respectively, during leaching. This plant is equipped with a unit for gold cementation from pregnant solution with zinc dust. This cementation unit is of original design. It is made in the form of a filtering device and is composed of several layers of carbon fiber which contacts with zinc powder. The residual gold concentration yield from a cementation unit is less than 0.1 mg/L. Gold recovery is 93-97%. In 2017-2018, the introduction of intensive cyanidation modular plants to gravity concentrates will be planned at new projects of Russia and the CIS.

Datun Concentrator currently processes complex sulfide ores in Gejiu Municipality, Yunnan Province, China. The ore contains much higher arsenic than other ores. The run of mine ore is fed to the concentrator to recover copper and tin by bulk flotation and gravity concentration, and then the other sulphides, such as pyrite, arsenopyrite, etc. didn?t get utilized and are discarded as tailings due to the high arsenic content. In order to utilize the pyrites in the tailings, a series of tests have been conducted for finding the solution of arsenic removal from high arsenic-bearing pyrite concentrates through simple flotation process. By means of orthogonal experimental design, the optimized levels and main factors have been found out for the roughing stage. Through selection of the effective in-organic depressants for the arsenic-bearing minerals, the arsenic in the pyrite concentrate can be removed to meet the requirement of sulfuric acid plant (As%=0.5%) by the open flotation process, i.e., one-time roughing and two-time cleaning.

"The purpose of this study was to develop a theoretical and technology framework for designing new combined technologies for processing tailings containing non-ferrous and noble metals using dry separation. The main goals of the study were: identifying the distribution patterns of valuable components in various fractions in dry separation processes; examining the patterns identified for different types of non-ferrous and noble metal tailings; developing a theoretical and technology foundation for the development of innovative technologies for the efficient processing of tailings with minimal process water consumption. To examine the possibility of efficient recovery of valuable components from refractory tailings using dry separation, an experimental laboratory unit was designed and built, composed of novel or modified lab equipment: plasma unit for increasing the magnetic susceptibility of Fe - containing minerals; magnetic separator supporting isodynamic and polygradient fields; pneumatic separator for the dry separation of finely dispersed mineral mixtures; dielectric separator using the resonant frequency of the electric field. The laboratory unit supports various modifications and combinations of the lab equipment. The experimental studies led to the development of a unified process scheme for lab tests of mature and non-ferrous smelter tailings using dry separation methods.INTRODUCTION The huge amount of waste from mining and processing of mineral resources Russia inherited from the extensive use of mineral resources in the Soviet Union and amount of waste continue to grow. Often the content of valuable non - ferrous, rare and noble metals in waste exceeds the balance contents in natural ores of the developed deposits. The availability of a rich scientific reserve for the creation highly effective innovative technologies for waste processing determines the necessity of the acceleration in the resolution of problems of the complex assessment, capitalization and involvement in the processing of technogenic resources in Russia (Chanturiya and Kozlov, 2014.)."

The new method of evaluation of grindability of hard coal and its blend is shown. Standard Hardgrove test is used as a base to work out this method. The essence of this method consists of simulation of milling process in close circuit (mill-classifier) and determination of energy consumption and quantity of product under the constant feed flow. The research equipment designed specially for this project is described New method of grindability measuring completes standard Hardgrove method withdrawing its faults: ? bigger (c.a. 10 times) and more representative sample is used; ? the milling process is carried out in close circuit (similarly to the industrial condition); ? energy consumption of the milling process is determined for three samples, which differs in grain size. The new method of evaluation of grindability of hard coal and its blend is shown. Standard Hardgrove test is used as a base to work out this method. This method allows us to determine energy consumption of the milling process. The essence of this method consist of simulation of milling process in close circuit (mill-classifier) and determination of energy consumption and quantity of product under the constant feed flow. Our results will complete the Hardgrove method and will help us to better characterise coal. At the same time investigations in industrial scale are carried out. These investigations will verify this new method. Also a new mathematical model of the milling process is being elaborated. It will be used to predict behaviour of coals in industrial conditions.

Utilisation of Low-Grade Iron Ore Fines after concentration not only helps in conservation of the mineral wealth, but also substantialsly improves the economics of iron ore mining. There has been need to develop suitable beneficiation process for upgradation of low-grade iron ores towards their rational utilisation. Presently the circuit adopted for processing iron ores has limitations in reduction of alumina. The depletion of high-grade reserves, utilisation of low-grade reserves coupled with in-creasing market pressure for improved product quality necessitates re-examination of the process flow sheets and evaluate alternative or supplemental processing routes. The main objective of the Process amenability studies for utilisation of Low-Grade Iron Ore Fines (-10mm) is to get Pellet grade concentrate with +65% Fe (min), SiO2 1.8% (max), Al2O3 1.8% (max) and other proportionate constituents by adopting suitable beneficiation techniques and to collect the relevant data (Quality and Quantity of the Products) for the process development. In an effort to formulate a conceptual process flow sheet, the Process amenability studies for utilisation of Low-Grade Iron Ore Fines (-10mm), which is lying at a mine site in India, samples were collected and taken up for the study. The efforts of R & D of NMDC are discussed in this paper. Low-Grade Iron Ore Fines (-10mm) sample assayed 60.10% Fe with 3.48% SiO2 Aland 4.48% 2O3from 40 microns to 300 microns. The sample consists of hematite as the chief ore mineral followed by minor amounts of maghemite. The gangue minerals include quartz and ferruginous clay in which quartz occurs as medium grained where as ferruginous clay occurs as fine to sub microscopic size mineral. The economical processing route evolved out of the studies finally could yield a final concentrate constituting 58.63% by weight along with Iron unit?s recovery of 63.51% assaying 65.10% Fe with 1.48% SiO2 and 1.85% Al2O3route that adopted comprises the following operations. Making slurry in a sump pump followed by grinding in close circuit with 48mesh size Screen. The -48 mesh size product was subjected o the Cycloning to remove slimes. The Cyclone Underflow product was subjected to Floatex Density Separation (FDS) to separate fine heavy minerals from the gangue minerals. The FDS Underflow was collected as concentrate. The FDS Overflow product was further subjected with Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separation (WHIMS) to recover more Iron units as magnetics. A conceptual process flow sheet was evolved, which may become the prelude to the subsequent finalisation of the process flow sheet for commercialisation.

"We have conducted analytical and technological evaluation of sepiolite containing clay. The possible areas of application of the sepiolite have been investigated and complex methods of enrichment of natural sepiolite have been identified. It was determined that for preserving the structure of minerals after processing the most effective method of the natural agglomerates disintegration was the soft abrasion of the clay fraction up to 0,5 mm. Disintegration of sepiolite clay along with using high energy-stressed effects on the matrix can deteriorate the rheological properties of clay suspensions and reduce the yield of drilling mud and sorption properties. To improve the quality of clay powders we used combined gravity-modifying method of wet enrichment. After the wet enrichment the yield of drilling mud increased up to 12.7 m3/t, with the addition of MgO up to 20,3 m3/t. It was noted that drilling muds contenting more than 50% of sepiolite are stable in mineralized (salt) waters. Based on the studied activated sepiolite rocks we obtained the effective heat-insulating materials with relatively low thermal conductivity – 0,165 W/m·K, average strength – 7,29 MPa and water absorption-49,0%.INTRODUCTION The modern development of the Russian economy requires the implementation of scientific and technical tasks. The solutions of it involves a radical reduction in energy, heat losses and material consumption of products, rational and efficient using of all types of resources, as well as the using of new types of mineral raw materials and materials based on it. An example of a new type of mineral raw materials for Russia is sepiolite containing rocks, due to unconventional conditions for their soils accumulation in the climate of the Far North. Sepiolite is a unique type of nonmetallic mineral. It is formed in soils, marine and saline basins, occurs in carbonate and carbonate-clay rocks in the form of lenses and lens – shaped layers, rarely nodules, loose powdery masses, shell-like concretions. Sepiolite may have a soft porous macroscopic appearance or less often the structure of the fibrous mass. Color of sepiolite is from white to cream with gray, green, pink and even crimson shade depending on the degree of pollution. Sepiolite can be in two forms - a-sepiolite (parasepiolite), which occurs in the form of large packets of crystalline fibers and ß-sepiolite, which occurs in the form of amorphous aggregates or small flat rounded particles. The sepiolite fibers have a length of from 0.2 to 2 Å, width from 100 to 300 Å, the thickness from 50 to 100 Å (Geological dictionary, 1973)."

"In recent years, the efficient cementation of mine tailings is a new way to manage mine solid wastes. The traditional cement materials have a slow setting time, large dosage and poor cementation strength for fine aggregate such as mine tailings. Therefore, the preparation of new type cementitious materials for the cementation of fine tailings has great potential in the treatment of mine waste solids. The paper mainly focuses on exploring the critical factors affecting the cementing performance of granulated blast furnace slag and its performance in the cementation of fine aggregate. Results indicate that the fineness of slag has a significant effect on its cementitious activity and Portland cement clinker has a better stimulation effect on the cementitious properties of slag than lime. And, anhydrite has a better early stimulation effect on the cementitious properties of alkali-activated slag compared to semi-hydrated gypsum and dihydrate gypsum. According to a series of tests on the cementation of fine iron tailings, the optimal ratio of slag, Portland cement clinker and anhydrite is determined as 60:30:10. Compared with P.O 42.5 ordinary Portland cement, the new slag based cementitious material shows much better cementing performance on fine tailings sample. Under the dosage of 12%, the compressive strength of fine tailings mortar using slag-based cementitious material in 3 curing days is increased to 168% that of using P.O 42.5 ordinary Portland cement, while the compressive strength in 28 days curing period is increased to 194%."

In this paper, the results emerging from the several basic and applied studies performed to provide fundamental understanding of the interplay between clay pulp chemistry, orthokinetic flocculation performance, particle interactions, applied shear and dewaterability of fine clay mineral dispersions are presented, reconciled, and discussed. Modification of pulp chemistry and behaviour was achieved by using kaolinite and Na-exchanged (swelling) smectite clay minerals, divalent metal ions (Ca(II), Mn(II)) as coagulants and high molecular weight, anionic polyacrylamide copolymers: carboxylate substituted (PAM A) and 2-amido 2-methyl propane sulphonate (PAM S) (PAM S), non-ionic polyacrylamide homopolymer (PAM N) and non-conventional, non-ionic polyethylene oxide (PEO) as flocculants. Clear links between pulp interfacial chemistry, particle interactions and dewatering behaviour, resulting from the influence of hydrolyzable metal ion, pH, temperature, polymer structure type and shear, are established. Optimum conditions for improved, orthokinetic flocculation performance of negatively charged clay particles, reflecting faster settling flocs (>10 m/h) comprised: (i) coagulation, (ii) moderate agitation rate, (iii) shorter agitation time and (iv) anionic rather than non-ionic PAM. The optimum flocculation conditions did not, however, have a significant impact on the final sediment solid content of 20 ? 25 wt%. Further application of shear to pre-sedimented pulps improved consolidation by 5 - 15 wt % solid. Application of the findings and new knowledge gained to real plant tails? case studies for marked improvement in dewaterability through thickening is demonstrated.

"For a copper-sulfur polymetallic mine in south China, the main valuable minerals were chalcopyrite, pyrite and pyrrhotite. The flotability of pyrrhotite was similar with chalcopyrite and pyrite and it was easy to be oxidized. As a result, the indexes of copper concentrate and sulfur concentrate were unsatisfactory. Furthermore, the recycling of tailings water ulteriorly deteriorated the technical indexes of copper-sulfur ore beneficiation. After a large amount of experimental studies, under the condition that the tailings water recycling rate was 100%, the copper concentrate with a grade of 22.25%Cu and a recovery of 82.46% on average was obtained for the raw ore containing 0.517%Cu, 15.94%S, 25.46%Fe on average, through using new technology “magnetic separation-flotation” and effective adjustment of parameters in the industrial test which was continuously conducted for 14 shifts in 5 days with a scale of about 75t/d. Comparing with the production indexes (the copper concentrate with a grade of 17.49%Cu, the recovery was 62.27%) during the corresponding period, the grade of copper concentrate increased 4.76%Cu, and the recovery increased 20 percentage points. Besides, the indexes of sulfur concentrate gained a considerable improvement. Currently, the new technology was adopted in the design of the new-built plant with a scale of 7000t/d of this mine. The new technology provided powerful support for the tailings water recycling and indexes improvement of copper-sulfur ore beneficiation.INTRODUCTION Chalcopyrite was usually associated with pyrite and pyrrhotite in copper-sulfur ore. Due to the similar flotability, it was difficult to obtain copper concentrate and sulfur concentrate with high grade. Furthermore, sulfide ore was easy to be oxidized and a large amount of ions formed in the pulp by the dissolution of minerals, which made the pulp become acidic. As a result, pyrite and pyrrhotite were easy to be activated in acidic solution and their flotabilities became stronger. Meanwhile, hydrophilic film formed on the surface of chalcopyrite in raw ore. The flotability of chalcopyrite became weaker and it made the separation of chalcopyrite from pyrite and pyrrhotite more difficult. So it was more difficult for copper and sulfur recovering with the recycling of tailings water containing high content of heavy metal ions and reagents."
