Luego de realizarse un estudio integral sobre la recuperación de minerales en la unidad productiva de Cerro de Pasco y relacionarlo con la problemática experimentada durante años sobre la metalurgia defectuosa producida, se ha planteado desarrollar una correspondencia entre la mineralogía y el tratamiento para reducir el producto defectuoso en la concentradora Paragasha. Es asi, que a partir de 1965 la concentradora inicia su tratamiento de zinc, bismuto, magnesio y zinc, obteniendo 635 TMS / d por flotación selectiva. Posteriormente, en 1895 se presentan recuperaciones de plomo y magnesio en 72% y 41%, respectivamente, al tiempo que se dan pérdidas del 20% y 39% en el contenido metálico alimentado a planta y grado del zinc concentrado (49%) por los relaves de Quiulacocha. En este sentido, el presente texto señala una alternativa de tratamiento aplicado durante el período de 1960 a 1990 a la mina Paragasha, donde se recupera la plata 61.8% y el plomo a 85%, respectivamente. Asimismo, se estabiliza la flotación por eliminación de sales solubles interferentes, consumiendo menos reactivos.

Mine-to-mill studies have previously demonstrated downstream productivity benefits from relatively modest increases in blast energy, or powder factor. These increases have up to now been limited by safety and environmental constraints, since excessive blast energy can result in flyrock, unacceptable vibration, airblast and wall damage.Here, a new blasting method that overcomes these constraints is presented. For the first time it is possible to employ powder factors that are several fold higher than conventional blasting. Independent modelling has shown that such powder factors can potentially increase mill throughput by 20 to 40 per cent. The economic implications are substantial, both in terms of increasing production in existing operations and in consideration of capital and plant requirements for greenfield sites. In addition, mill electricity and grinding media consumption and their associated costs and energy and emissions penalties can be reduced.This method represents a step-change in blasting practices. It involves a novel design utilising dual blast layers within a single blast event, all initiated with state-of-the art electronic blasting systems. The energies in the lower layer can be as high as five times the standard energies, providing for intense fragmentation of the ore. Results from blast models have been confirmed in field trials of the method.Open cut gold mining, in particular, stands to benefit from this method. As gold grades decline, milling costs and throughput increasingly become constraints on production that can be alleviated with this new method. Additionally, it opens possibilities for improved recovery. Blast modelling studies show that dilution of gold ore within the blast can be managed with the new method. Furthermore, it has been shown that vibration from the new method is actually lower than from conventional blasting, allowing the use of the technique in proximity to mine highwalls and other key infrastructure such as underground orepasses.It is concluded that this new method could substantially increase gold mine production and profitability while reducing overall energy consumption and associated emissions.CITATION:Brent, G F, Dare-Bryan, P, Hawke, S and Rothery, M, 2013. Iodide-grade titanium, two oxygen alloys, and two aluminum alloys were studied by means of creep-rupture tests from 1000° to 2000°F. From the test information an evaluation was made of, 1) the relative creep-rupture strengths of the u (hexagonal-close-packed) and 0 (body-centered-cubic) forms of titanium and some of its alloys; 2) the effects of solid-solution strengthening by oxygen and aluminum on the u and 0 structures; and 3) the extent and effect of atmospheric oxygen alloying on rupture life in tests above about 1000°F. THE use of titanium alloys at temperatures above 1000° F has been considered unlikely by most investigators because of low creep strength (based on a requirement for room-temperature ductility, formability, and weldability) and low oxidation resistance. The results of this testing program do not entirely uphold this pessimism in terms of strength and oxidation resistance. The observations described below are based entirely on stress-rupture results, although some creep tests were also carried out on these alloys. Three items of primary importance are covered: 1) Stress-rupture data in the form of the Larson-Miller parameter curves for several titanium alloys at temperatures up to 2000°F; 2) The relative strengths of the hexagonal-close-packed a structure and the body-centered-cubic 0 structure; 3) The effects of solid-solution alloying on the creep-rupture properties of titaniu'm at elevated temperatures. Only two investigatons have reported the creep- rupture properties of titanium at temperatures above 1000° F. Lunsford and rant' tested iodide titanium; their values are also utilized in the paper. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE After a few tests had been made in a conventional creep-rupture test machine, it became clear that some sort of atmospheric protection would be necessary for short-time tests conducted at temperatures above 1600°F, or for times greater than 100 hr at 1200°F or above. Several furnace units and test machines were constructed, the most successful of which is shown in Fig. 1. Certain experimental difficulties peculiar to titanium were encountered; for example, the use of molybdenum holders was dictated because titanium forms low melting-point eutectics with conventional high-temperature alloys containing appreciable amounts of iron, nickel, or cobalt. This same difficulty made the use of chrome l-alumel thermocouples in direct contact with a test specimen impossible, above about 1500" F. The high-temperature high-vacuum furnace shown in Fig. 1 was capable of maintaining a vacuum of better than 10"5 mm of mercury at 2000°F (pressure measured in cold part of system) and 5 X lo-' mm at room temperature. "ZrO2 and Y2O 3-doped ZrO2 gel film were obtained by spin coating of sol from Zr-n-propoxide, n-propanol, acetylacetone, nitric acid, and water on a silica glass as a substrate. ·Dried gel films crystallized to monoclinic, tetragonal, cubic and their mixed phases, depending on the chemical composition of sol, .firing temperature, and coating cycles. ZrO2 films with highly preferential orientation were successfully obtained from a solution containing a large amount of n-propanol. The highly oriented ZrO2 film was found to have high transparency compared with non-oriented 'films. Electrical conductivity of 8 mol% Y2O 3 doped ZrO2 film was also measured.Introduction3 mol% Y2O 3 doped ZrO2, which has a tetragonal symmetry is ·well known to have a strong mechanical property and a high toughness. (1) On the other hand, 8 mol % Y 2O 3-doped ZrO2 is high oxide-ion conducting material and is applied to oxygen sensor, oxygen pump, and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). (2) Sol-gel methods using metallic alkoxide are widely applied for synthesizing ceramics such as high-purity fine particles, thin film, and fiber. (3) For ceramics films, many reports have been made on SiO2, (4) TiO2, (5) and PZT. (6) Several case studies have been done on zirconia film based on the sol-gel method, (7) - (11) but very few on preferentially oriented film and on systematic Y zO3 doping. Almost zirconia ceramic· films reported were prepared by means of dip-coating. Kamiya et al. (12) and Ganguli et al (13) converted zirconia into fiber. Sol from Zr alkoxide is usually very unstable, and a stabilizing agent such as glycol or ß-keton is used beforehand (7) (14)."

EXPERIMENTAL work on the concentration and agglomeration of low-grade iron ores was started many years ago at the Mines Experiment Station of the University of Minnesota by E. W. Davis and his staff. From these laboratory results and the work of 0. G. Lellep, consultant for the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co., there were indications that the use of a downdraft continuous- grate furnace, patterned from a conventional-type sintering machine, would be practical. Consequently, a pilot plant was designed and constructed by the joint efforts of Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co. and Arthur G. McKee & Co. at Carrollville, Wis. Several years of work resulted in plans to build a large-scale pilot plant for commercial application. Such a pilot plant, built at Babbitt, Minn., by the Reserve Mining Co., was designed to produce 1000 tpd. Sufficient metallurgical and operating data were accumulated to permit the successful application to the design of a commercial plant of any desired capacity. Based upon this data, a pelletizing plant having a 3 ¾ million ton per year capacity was erected by the Reserve Mining Co. at Silver Bay, Minn. and started operation in October, 1955. Provisions were made in the design to permit future expansion to a capacity of 10 million tons per year.

"INTRODUCTION The provision of escapeways from coal mines is a moral and, in most States, a legal obligation of mine owners and operators. The obligation is not always fulfilled because of the hope that no occasion will ever arise requiring the use of such facilities, and, as time passes without the need for using them, a false sense of security is born in the belief that ""it can't happen here.""The disastrous fire in a mine in Ohio on July 5, 1944, again focused attention on the importance of escapeways in averting disasters and made it clear that one or more dependable exits must be provided from a mine and parts thereof where men might be trapped by being cut off from the regular travel route. This matter of always-having available travelable exits has been advocated for many years by the United States Bureau of Mines."

Although fluorspar is considered an industrial mineral by usage and value, its geological occurrence and the mining and milling methods employed make it more akin to the non-ferrous metal ores. Likewise methods of exploration for it are more like those used in the search for lead and zinc, with which fluorspar is often mixed. In fact, it often takes the mixture of fluorspar, lead, zinc, plus maybe barite to add up to enough recoverable values to make the mineral an ore by definition. This is so true where the fluorspar portion is low grade, perhaps less than 25 percent. Until the development of modern steel milling in World War I times, the invention of aluminum smelting, and development of the fluorine chemical industry and air conditioning, there were few uses for fluorspar aside from ceramic fluxes in the flint glass industry and for uses as glazes for pottery and china. Pure fluorite crystals have long been admired as semi-precious and ornamental minerals of many delicate colors.

AEROPROSPECTING may be defined as the application of the air view to the search for mineral deposits. The term is suggested as a preferable alternative to either aerial prospecting (which may be confused with areal prospecting) or air prospecting. The air view may be obtained by visual observation from an aircraft or by examination of air photographs; each has its particular advantages and disadvantages. Aeroprospecting should be regarded only as an aid to, and not as a substitute for, accepted prospecting methods ( l ). The Precambrian region north of Great Slave lake consists of two well defined physiographic units, a feature first noted by J. T. Wilson (2). The boundary between these lies close to the north shore of the east arm of the lake and extends northwesterly near Spencer, Beniah, Carp, and Ghost lakes (Figure 1). South and west of this line, exposed bed-rock makes up the greater part of the land area; eskers are very rare, and overburden is largely limited to rock-walled valleys and depressions. North and east of the line, outcrops are rare or absent, eskers are abundant, and most of the surface consists of drumlin-like drift hills, elongated parallel to the direction of ice movement (Figure 2). Where this boundary passes through the area shown in Figure 1, it lies near the 1,200-foot contour and may mark the maximum extent of the lake or sea arm present in this vicinity toward the end of the Pleistocene period. For convenience, the first area may be called the 'bed-rock belt' and the other the 'drift belt'.

An experimental study of the influence of surface active agents on the dewatering of fine coal was undertaken with a view to evaluating the usefulness of such materials in reducing the residual moisture contents of filter cakes. Experimental evidence is presented which suggests that while polymeric fiocculants have a beneficial effect on settling, they can have adverse effects on the filtration of the thickened underflow. Detergent addition, on the other hand, was shown to reduce filter cake moisture, and the magnitude of this effect was determined, in part, by the prevailing electrochemical equilibrium at the solid-solution interface.

FROM 1870 to date, the coal production of Utah has been somewhat less than 85,000,000 tons. There have been at least three major disasters with total fatalities about 380; or approximately. 4.4 persons killed by mine explosions per million tons produced, a record that is decidedly bad. Even during the periods when there have been no disasters, such as the years 1914 to 1920, inclusive, the fatalities .in ordinary working ran about 5.4 per million tons produced, against 3.7 per, million tons. for the whole United States for the same years. The five-year period following the war, 1918 to 1922 inclusive, showed 4.7 fatalities per million tons, hence the fatality record in the coal mines of Utah has uniformly been in excess of the average of the coal mines of the entire country. Notwithstanding this poor record, Utah has given to the coal-mining world many excellent safety methods and practices and the Utah. coal mines in general take greater measures toward safe mining than do the coal mines of any other State; if practices and methods allowed and pursued in coal mines of other States were tried in Utah coal mines, there would be a succession of disasters. Utah's principal producing coal mines, operated by about eighteen companies and numbering less than forty, have comparatively thick seams. Very little coal under 5 ft. thick is being worked and practically none under 4 ft.; much, if not most, of the coal comes from seams in excess of 8 ft., some running as high as 30 ft. In thick seams in which coal is left on floor and roof, any dust found or made is entirely combustible. In addition, the thick seams induce the use of large capacity cars, handling which in rooms and other workings on fairly heavy grades (up to 10 or .12 per cent.) tends to cause haulage accidents. The thick seams give high ribs and roof, in which it is difficult to prevent slabs of coal or rock from dropping on workers and also difficult to keep free of gas and of coal dust. The coal is high volatile, running usually over 40 per cent and in some instances nearly to 50 per cent; hence is highly flammable. Most of the coals have very high resin content, the resin usually being in dust form, hence almost as highly flammable as black powder. During U.S. Bureau of mines mineral investigations, in 1981 and 1983, no mines, prospects, or mineral resources were identified in the Little Sand Spring Wilderness Study Area (WSA). Placer gold values in near-surface samples from alluvial fans within or near the WSA contained no more than 66 cents gold per cu yd, at $400 per troy ounce gold price. Sand and gravel and carbonate rocks occur in large quantities, but transportation costs to distant markets preclude their classification as resources. Nitrogen, lithium, clay, pumice, perlite, aragonite, and agate occurrences in the WSA are small or low-grade. The Silvia Mine, adjacent to the WSA contains gold-, silver-, copper-, and lead-bearing shear zones which strike toward the WSA. INTRODUCTION The Little Sand Spring WSA, encompassing 33,500 acres, is approximately 56 mi east of Big Pine, California, by paved and graded dirt roads (fl;. 1). Elevations range from 2,600 ft in Death Valley Wash to 5,600 ft along the California-Nevada boundary. The nearest permanent facilities are at Grapevine Ranger station and Scotty's Castle (Death Valley Ranch), about 9 and 11 mi, respectively, south in Death Valley National Monument.

Recent advances in X-ray diffraction (XRD) technology have made it possible to conduct powder XRD measurements on samples at high temperatures during reaction. State-of-the-art detectors are now capable of rapidly acquiring diffraction patterns across a wide angular range (typically 120"20) enabling phase transformation rates to be measured directly during sample reaction. In this study, the phase transformations during the reduction of hematite to metallic iron by five per cent hydro ºen in nitrogen gas mixtures, were measured in situ between 500 - 700 C. Complete X-ray diffraction patterns were acquired within 15 seconds every one minute, enabling direct measurement of the transient phase abundances during the reaction. The data were quantitatively analysed by the Rietveld method to yield the abundances of hematite, magnetite, wustite and metallic iron, as functions of time during the reduction process. A first-order reactions-in-series model was proposed, and the reaction rate constants and activation energy were determined from the time-dependent phase abundance data.

Since 1910, Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers (MRCE) has regularly provided professional engineering services including inspection of pile load tests. Historically, such services included on-site inspection of the driving of test piles and subsequent static load tests by qualified Geotechnical Engineers. Load testing procedures are specified by local or State Building Codes, locally the 1968 Building Code of the City of New York (1968 BCCNY). Between 1968 and 2008, the 1968 BCCNY required a minimum 48-hour hold period for standard loads per pile type, an extended 96-hour hold period for higher capacity piles, and a settlement criterion that the pile maintain a test load equal to two times the design load with less than 0.012 inches of settlement over the last 48 hours of the hold period. Effective July 2008, the new 2008 BCCNY shortened the hold period and relaxed the settlement criteria to that which is more similar to other governing codes and standards such as the International Building Code (IBC 2006) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). MRCE implemented an automated load test monitoring system to reduce costs and to alleviate or minimize overnight and off-hour staffing for load test readings. Initially, a series of linear variable differential transformers (LVDTs) and data loggers were included in the Contractor?s load test setup to electronically record pile head settlement and where applicable, settlement of telltales installed to varying depths in the pile. A pressure gage was subsequently added in the hydraulic line, then a load cell, strain gages, and remote access using modems. The ease of the setup and modular adaptive nature of this system have proven it to be a useful tool and improved our ability to better serve our clients and manage our pile load testing services.

THE mines of the Consolidated Copper and Sulphur Company, consisting of the Eust1s, the Albert, and the Capel mines, are situated w Ascot township, Quebec, about ten miles southeast of Sherbrooke, on the main line of the Quebec Central railway. Of these mines, only the Eustis is now producing, and it has been operated almost continuously for the past seventy years. Mining methods have been improved in recent years but are still old fashioned when compared with those employed in more modern and up-to-date mines. The ore is of milling grade and is mined for its copper and sulphur con-tent. Silver is present in small quantity, together with a trace of gold. The ore is mined by the shrinkage stope method. Pillars are frequently left as supports for the hanging-wall to prevent serious dilution of the ore and are sometimes recovered after the ore is drawn from the stope. Occasionally, small blacks of ore in close proximity to the shaft are mined by a cut-and-fill method. HISTORY ALBERT AND CAPEL MINES: The Albert and the Capel mines, originally known as the Capelton mine, were discovered in 1863 by George Capel (1). By the end of 1866 the Albert shaft had been sunk to a depth of 121 feet on an incline of about 30 degrees where a vein five feet thick was encountered. In 1879, these mines passed into the hands of G. H. Nichols and Company, by whom they were operated practically continuously until 1907. When mining operations ceased in that year, the shafts had reached depths on the incline of approximately 2,300 feet and 1,000 feet, respectively. These mines have been allowed to cave and fill with water and have been inaccessible for many years.

Fundamentally, slag control in acid open-hearth steelmaking cannot be considered from any different viewpoint than can that in basic open-hearth melting. The same laws of mass action and distribution apply in both cases, so that while most, if not all, of the recent intensive study of slag-metal reactions have been carried on in basic furnaces the principles evolved are nevertheless applicable to acid open-hearth steelmaking and it is therefore not our intention to discuss the various possible chemical reactions in the slag and between slag and metal. The points we have to carry in mind, in considering acid melting practice, are the differences in the type of steels produced and the difference in the chemistry of both the steel and the slag. The acid furnace is used to produce, let us not say "quality" steel, for, after all, a "quality" steel for one purpose is not a "quality" steel for another, but steels that require acid melting practice to be of proper "quality." Steels that are required to have high physical properties in tests taken transversely from forgings are peculiarly the product of acid furnaces. In this class may be placed various ordnance materials, notably gun forgings and projectiles and large commercial forgings requiring high transverse ductility. Forgings requiring an extremely hard surface, polished and free from imperfections, are also typical acid-steel products. Of course, such forgings can be made of basic open-hearth steel, but not with the same assurance of success. At the start, the preparation of the slag in the acid and basic furnaces differs. Lime is charged in the beginning of a basic heat to form a slag, but in the acid furnace nothing is added for the special purpose of producing a slag when the heat is melted down. The result is that the acid furnace has much less volume of slag than the basic. The slag formed upon melting down is made up almost entirely of the oxides of elements contained in the metallic charge, notably oxides of iron, manganese and silicon, the amount of silica being augmented somewhat by erosion of the furnace lining. A typical acid open-hearth slag, when the bath is completely melted, will have an analysis about as follows: CaO, 3.40 per cent; SiO2, 51.9; Fe2O3, 1.25 ; FeO, 28.86; Al2o3, 1.82; MnO, 12.22. The high iron oxide content of the slag gives it a black appearance. Ultimately, the most important product of a hearing conservation program is the prevention of hearing loss, not the amount of hearing protection that has been purchased or whether employees are attending their annual training sessions. Audiometric testing directly reveals whether hearing losses are actually occurring in a plant. With audiometric data, we can assess overall program effectiveness, alert workers of impending hearing loss, and reveal potential employer liabilities for compensable hearing loss. Without the ability to efficiently analyze audiometric data or produce effective reports, our programs become fruitless and unproductive. Consequently, ifaudiometric data are such vital end-products, then effective audiometric technologies serve as the prime architect and generator of these fundamental data. These technologies, consisting ofaudiometers, associated peripheral hardware, and database/reporting software, deserve our consideration.

"In order to obtain basic data for the development of highly thermally conductive composite materials, the thermal conductivity of a resin composite material with an Aluminum Nitride filler was assessed. Several different measurement techniques such as the xenon flash and the temperature wave thermometric analysis method were employed to gather data on these composites. An excellent match between theoretical and experimental data was achieved by employing a predictive expression that takes into account the effect of percolation on thermal conductivity.IntroductionA thermal solution composite is made by incorporating dense inorganic fillers with high thermal conductivity into a resin. Because the composite materials have high thermal conductivities, they have been used in electrical products that generate excessive thermal energy during operation, such as inverters, amplifiers and motor drivers. They function as electrically insulating and thermally conducting parts of the electric modules. As the uses of thermal solutions are expanded, composites of higher thermal conductivities will be required. The aim of this work was to investigate, evaluate, and try to predict the influence of key parameters on thermal conductivity and diffusivity. This was achieved by analyzing the effect of both volume fraction and shape of Aluminum Nitride ceramic fillers and measuring the thermal conductivity. In addition, the influence of percolation on thermal conductivity is considered. The thermal conductivity of the composites is discussed by employing a predictive equation using literature data of thermal conductivities for both the filler and resin. As well as thermal conductivity measurements the effect of volume fraction of the filler was also explored.ExperimentalSpecimen PreparationThe composite samples were prepared from silicone resin and Aluminum Nitride (AlN) fillers. The AlN fillers with an average particle size of 20 µm are shown in Figure 1. The mean diameters of the AlN particles used are given in Table I. For comparison the AlN fillers with an average particle size of 5 µm are shown in Figure 2. A planetary centrifugal mixer was used for simultaneously dispersing the components uniformly and de-aerating the mixture. After mixing, these materials were placed in a silicone rubber case and cured at 150 °C for 1 hour."
