ABSTRACT: The Berg Bock Freeway Tunnel represents the southernmost link of the "Thuringian tunnel chain" of the new freeway A71 located in the eastern part of Germany. It comprises two tubes each 2700 m in length. From north to south, it passes through the Suhl granite, the base sediments and the porphyrite of the New Red as well as the layers of the Middle Bunter. The two tunnel tubes were driven by the shotcrete method within appr. 10 months. With four tunnel faces, maximum performances totalling appr. 30 m/d were attained. Additional, supplementary demands on the safety conception, resulting from the findings from and the analysis of fire accidents in tunnels in recent years, had to be fulfilled in the execution planning at short notice. The inner lining is largely constructed using non-reinforced concrete. Reinforcement is only installed in the portal zones, in tunnel sections in less stable rock and in areas with a special cross-section as for instance cross connections and niches. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Der Autobahntunnel Berg Bock stellt das südlichste Glied der "Thüringer Tunnelkette" auf der Autobahn A71 dar, die im Osten von Deutschland liegt. Er besteht aus zwei Röhren von je 2700 m Länge. Vom Norden nach Süden durchörtert er den Suhler Granit, die Basissedimente und den Porphyrit des Rotliegenden, sowie die Schichten des Mittleren Buntsandsteins. Die beiden Tunnelröhren wurden in Spritzbetonbauweise in einer Bauzeit von etwa zehn Monaten aufgefahren. An vier Vortriebsorten wurden Spitzenleistungen von insgesamt etwa 30 m/d erzielt. Ergänzende Anforderungen an das Sicherheitskonzept, die sich auf der Grundlage der Auswertung der in den letzten Jahren aufgetretenen Brandunfälle in Tunneln ergeben haben, wurden im Rahmen der Ausführungsplanung kurzfristig berücksichtigt. Die Tunnelinnenschale wurde weitgehend aus nicht bewehrtem Beton hergestellt. Nur in den Portalzonen, in Tunnelabschnitten mit weniger standsicherem Fels und in Bereichen mit speziellen Querschnitten, wie beispielsweise im Bereich von Querstollen und Nischen, wurde bewehrter Beton ausgeführt. RÉSUMÉ: Le tunnel d'autoroute de Berg Bock représente le plus méridional maillon de la "chaîne thuringienne de tunnels" sur l'autoroute A71 dans l'est de l'Allemagne. Il se compose de deux tubes d'une longueur de 2700 m chacun. Du nord vers le sud, il traverse le granit de Suhl, les sédiments de base et le porphyrite du Rotliegendes, aussi que les strates du grès bigarré intermédiaire. Les deux tubes étaient creusés en méthode de construction de béton projeté dans une période de construction d'environ dix mois. À quatre fronts de taille rendements maximaux collectifs d'environ 30 m par jour étaient obtenus. On a eu égard à court terme dans la conception d'exécution à des demandes supplémentaires vers la conception de sécurité, qui ont résulté sur la base de l'interprétation des accidents d'incendie dans des tunnels dans les années dernières. La paroi intérieure était construite largement de béton non armé.

ABSRACT: In this paper numerical simulation of jointed block mass behaviour obtained in an experimental study has been presented. Singh et al. (2002) conducted extensive tests on the jointed model materials with several joint configurations. The results of this experimental study were used to validate the strength behaviour of numerical block mass model developed using professionally available software. This software basically contains different kinds of material models. From the results of numerical simulation the existence of strength anisotropy was observed. The strength anisotropy so obtained has been compared with the experimental values reported by Singh et al. (2002). The anisotropic curves in both cases are U-shaped with flat base. They show good agreement in sliding mode of failure zone in which inclination ß (= 90° - ?) of joint set-I lie between 20° to 40° for all cases of interlocking. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: In dieser numerischen Papiersimulation des verbundenen Blockmasse Verhaltens, das in einer experimentellen Studie erhalten wird, ist dargestellt worden. Singh et al. (2002) leiteten umfangreiche Tests auf den verbundenen vorbildlichen Materialien mit einigen gemeinsamen Konfigurationen. Die Resultate dieser experimentellen Studie wurden verwendet, um das Stärke Verhalten des numerischen Blockmasse Modells zu validieren, das mit professionell vorhandener Software entwickelt wurde. Diese Software enthält im Allgemeinen unterschiedliche Arten der materiellen Modelle. Von den Resultaten der numerischen Simulation wurde das Bestehen von Stärke Anisotrophie beobachtet. Die Stärke Anisotrophie also erreicht ist mit den experimentellen Werten verglichen worden, die von Singh et al. (2002) berichtet werden. Die anisotropen Kurven in beiden Fällen sind mit flacher Unterseite u-förmig. Sie zeigen gute Vereinbarung in gleitender Erscheinungsform des Ausfalls Zone, in der Neigung ß (= 90° - ?) von der Verbindung stellenSie Lüge zwischen 20° auf 40° für alle Fälle vom Ineinandergreifen ein. RESUME: Dans cette simulation numérique de papier du comportement joint de la masse de bloc obtenu en étude expérimentale a été présenté. Singh et autres (2002) ont effectué les essais étendus sur les matériaux modèles joints avec plusieurs configurations communes. Les résultats de cette étude expérimentale ont été employés pour valider le comportement de résistance du modèle numérique de la masse de bloc développé en utilisant le logiciel professionnellement disponible. Ce logiciel contient fondamentalement différents genres de modèles matériels. Des résultats de la simulation numérique on a observé l'existence de l'anisotropie de force. L'anisotropie de force ainsi obtenu a été comparée aux valeurs expérimentales rapportées par Singh et autres (2002). Les courbes anisotropes dans les deux cas sont en U avec la base plate. Elles montrent la bonne concordance dans le mode coulissant de la zone d'échec en lequel la inclination ß (= 90° - ?) du joint placez-Je le mensonge entre 20° à 40° pour tous les cas d'enclencher.

Changes in reductant and energy inputs which are required to adjust the slag composition in anilmenite smelter to a higher or lower FeO content are calculated. The calculated changes are based on the assumption that solidification equilibrium with the freeze lining constrains the slag composition to follow a eutectic groove in the TiO2-FeO-TiO1.5phase diagram. Calculated equilibrium conditions along the eutectic groove are presented, and form the basis of the calculations. The inputs of energy and carbon need to deviate strongly from the steady-state values to adjust the slag composition. The inputs required at any given time depend on the desired rate of change of the slag composition, and the current slag composition. The steady-state relationship of a change in energy input of 5 kWh corresponding to a 1 kg change in carbon input does also hold for the changed inputs during transient changes in FeO content. In late 1997 a request was received to assist with determining the powered support unit (shield) load capacities for the planned 2 seam short wall. This project had a number of aspects which made it attractive to utilize numerical modelling in conjunction with other more conventional design tools in the design of the shields. Amongst these were: The 2 seam panels were to be laid out about 25 m below the previously short walled 4 seam, the 4 seam had in turn been over-mined by the 5 seam long wall, the proposed face height of the 2 seam short wall was 5.5 m while the 4 seam had been mined at 4 m. The top seam in the area (5 seam) had been mined at between 1.5 and 2.2 m high, the face conditions with about 95 m of broken material applying dead weight loading to the 2 to 4 seam inter-burden septum were hard to predict and cyclical loading due to the presence of strong sandstone bands in the 2 to 4 seam inter-burden. The basic thrust of the study was to take the known, and successful, situation (4 seam short wall) and carry out comparative modelling to enable prediction of likely 2 seam conditions. Some two dimensional aspects studied were: 5 m goaf hanging up behind shields, stresses in beams to determine likely first goaf roof span, stresses in cantilever beams to asses cyclical loading due to sandstone bands in the interburden being loaded by the overlying goaf and stresses on chain and crush pillars adjacent to the goaf edge. Three dimensional aspects that were investigated included: Load distribution along face for close goafing and 5 m goaf hang-up and load in a 1 m wide rib modelled in the position of the powered support units. From the modelling it was possible to determine the optimal shield leg capacity of the new 2 seam equipment. These outputs were used when drawing up the technical specifications for manufacture of the new equipment. The face was successfully commissioned in August 2002. Certains aspects de ce projet le rendaient intéressant pour utiliser la modélisation numérique en même temps que d’autres méthodes conventionnelles pour la conception des boucliers. Parmi ces aspects se trouvaient : Les panneaux de la couche 2 devaient être placés environ 25 m au dessous de la couche 4 courte taille ; la couche 4 avait été remplacée par la couche 5 longue taille ; la hauteur de taille proposée pour la couche 2 courte taille était 5.5 m, tandis que la couche 4 avait été exploitée à 4 m. La couche supérieure de la région (couche 5) avait été exploitée entre 1.5 et 2.2 m de hauteur ; il était difficile de prédire les conditions de taille, avec environ 95m de matériaux cassés ajoutant une charge morte à la plaque de séparation entre les couches 2 et 4 et un chargement cyclique causé par des bandes de grès dans l’entre-fardeau 2-4. L’idée principale de l’étude fut de prendre la situation connue et réussie (couche 4 courte taille) et de faire une modélisation comparative pour prédire les conditions probables de la couche 2. Certains des aspects à double dimension qui furent étudiés étaient : Un accrochage de remblai de 5m derrière les boucliers ; contraintes dans les poutres pour déterminer le premier intervalle probable entre remblai et toit ; contraintes dans les poutres en porte-à-faux pour évaluer le chargement cyclique causé par les bandes de grès dans l’entre-fardeau qui est accablé par le remblai et les contraintes sur les piliers par chaîne et d’écrasement adjacents au bord du remblai. Aspects à trois dimensions qui furent étudiés : Distribution de la charge le long de la taille pour les remblais proches et l’accrochage de remblai de 5 m et la charge dans une nervure de 1 m de large modelée dans la position des unités de soutènement mécanisées. La modélisation a permis de déterminer la capacité de portée optimale du bouclier du dispositif nouveau pour la couche 2. The paper presents the limit equilibrium equations for the analysis of toppling blocks on a rock slope. The safety conditions are assessed by a numeric procedure implemented in an Excel worksheet. The UDEC numerical program was exploited to validate the procedure. A probabilistic model considering the spacing variability of the discontinuities was developed to define the most relevant parameters in this kind of problems. La communication presente les equations d’équilibre limite pour l’analyse de blocs rocheux sur une pente. Les conditions de securité sont évaluées par une procédure numérique en Excel. Le logiciel UDEC a été exploité pour valider cette procedure. Un modèle probabilistique a été developpé pour définir les plus importants paramètres dans ces problèmes. Das Referat stellt die Grenzgleichgewichtsgleichungen für die Analyse von umstrürzenden Blök-ken auf eines Felshang vor. Die Sicherheitsbedingungen werden durch ein numerisches Verfahren mit Excel beurteilt. Um die Gültigkeit des Verfahrens festzustellen, wurde das Programm UDEC benutzt. Ein die Klufabstandsvariabilität berücksichtigendes probabilistisches Modell wurde entwickelt, um die wichtigsten Parameter dieser Probleme zu bestimmen.

ABSTRACT : Rock mass classifications RMR, Q and GSI do not suggest decreasing modulus ratio with the decrease in the quality of rock. These have been linked to joint factor, Jf , for better prediction. An engineering classification is suggested based on strength and modulus applicable to both intact and jointed rocks. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG : Fels Masse Klassifizierungen RMR, schlägt Q und GSI daß das Abnehmen von modulus Verhältnis mit der Abnahme in der Qualität des Felsen nicht vor. Diese sind zu gemeinschaftlichem Faktor, Jf, für bessere Voraussage verknüpft worden. Eine technische Klassifizierung wird auf der Basis auf Kraft und modulus vorgeschlagen die zutreffend sind zu beiden unversehrten und jointed Felsen. RESUME: RMR de classifications de masse de Rocher, Q et GSI ne suggèrent pas la proportion de modulus décroissante avec la diminution dans la qualité de rocher. Ceux-ci ont été reliés au facteur de jointure, Jf, pour mieux la prédiction. Une classification construisant est suggérée basé sur la force et modulus applicables intacts et les rochers de jointed.

Defects which occur at the surface of a continuously cast slab impede the throughput of final product, because an extra stage in the process is required to grind the defects away before further processing can take place. Defect prediction and the minimization of the occurrence of defects is required. The use of two models to define the defect propagation is explained. Both models are derived using system identification techniques such as auto-regression with exogenous input(ARX). One model is used to determine the effect of manipulated variables such as casting speed and measured disturbances such as mould level on temperatures within the mould. The other isused to determine or indicate the effect of the mould temperatures on the occurrence of defects such as transversal cracks. The latter model can be used to predict when the defects will occur and the former can be used to control the occurrence of the defects. This article presents the analysis of ventilation systems used in dead-end headings, while being drilled, in coal mines. Special emphasis is put on methane and dust hazard. Mathematical model for distribution of methane concentration in a heading is given as well. This model takes into consideration sources of methane emission and change in air flow rate due to leaks in a duct line. Solving equations presented in this article enabled giving dependencies describing distribution of concentration along the heading. On the basis of these dependencies there is a possibility of determining places with higher methane concentration and ways of combating this hazard. Determining the distribution of methane concentration in dead-end headings ventilated by a separate ventilation system is of great importance as far as work safety conditions are concerned. The information obtained may be of use when finding proper places for installing methane sensors. Three kinds of separate ventilation systems were distinguished: forcing, exhaust and overlap. The development in construction of fans and spare parts of a duct line enables using both forcing and exhaust ventilation systems in headings developed by continuous miners, with length above 1000 m, in the conditions of methane, temperature and health-detriment dust hazards.

There is a set of settled ideas in the field of the mechanics of rock mass joints, that need a deep revision, after the last experimental works of several authors. In this paper, this theme is approached under several viewpoints, like the following ones: the essential influence of the mating or mismatching of rock joints on their strength (different strength models are applicable to these two situations, one leading preferably to normal scale effects, and the other to inverse scale effects); Patton's model is a bad formulation of the joint strength, whenever there is a dilation effect in the slidings (actually, the essential consideration of the amplitude of the roughess isn't made by any limit equilibrium model, like Patton's model); the joint strength increases as the width perpendicular to the sliding direction is reduced (previous works of other authors suggested the independence of the strength on that width); the reduction of the anisotropy of the roughness, as the sample symmetry and sample dimensions increase; there is no scale effect in the discontinuity mechanics, if there is no roughness heterogeneity; when only the same roughness and undulation orders are involved in the tests, shorter samples have larger peak displacements and lower shear stiffnesses than larger samples (usually, the contrary is admitted). For all these reasons, there isn't an easy correlation between the small scale tests and the natural large joint scale. Only "in situ" large scale tests have some representativeness. All the above mentioned questions are correlated to each other. Es gibt eine Menge eingewurzelter Ideen im Gebiet der Mechanik von Felsklüften, die, nach den letzten experimentellen Arbeiten von mehreren Verfassern, eine tiefe Überprüfung benötigen. Il y a un ensemble de des bien établies arrière-pensées idées dans le champ de la mécanique des discontinuités en massifs rocheux qui ont besoin d'une profonde revision, après les derniers travaux de divers auteurs. Dans cet article cette matière est abordée sous divers points de vue, comme les suivants: la signification essentiel de l'ajustement ou du désajustement des discontinuités dans leur résistance. Des différents modèles sont applicables à ces deux situations, une conduisant de préference à des effets d'échelle normaux et l'autre à des effets d'échelle inverses; le modèle de Patton est une mauvaise formulation de la résistance des joints quand il y a effet dilatant dans les glissement. A diverse selection of rockbolt designs and resin anchors are available for use in underground mines. Research in recent years at the UNSW Mining Research Centre led to the construction of a rockbolt pull-testing facility. This facility has subsequently been upgraded, commissioned and initial test work has been completed to verify the pull-test process. A test program has been completed with the objective to understand the load transfer mechanism and improve the general performance of rockbolts. This paper describes the results of this research. Une sélection diverse de dessins du rockbolt et ancres de la résine est disponible pour usage dans les mines de métro. Faites des recherches ces dernières années à l'UNSW que le Centre de la Recherche Minier a mené à la construction d'une facilité de l'essai de la traction du rockbolt. Cette facilité a été améliorée par la suite, le travail de l'épreuve en commission et initial a été complété pour vérifier le processus de la traction-épreuve. Un programme de l'épreuve a été complété avec l'objectif comprendre le mécanisme du transfert de la charge et améliorer la performance générale de rockbolts. The position of Australia as a continuing long-term supplier of mineral sands, and their upgraded products, has been reinforced with the discovery of the extensive mineral reserves in the Murray Basin, an area covering parts of South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. A major impurity in the Murray Basin is chromium, mainly present in ilmenite concentrates as individual chrome spinel grains. Magnetizing roast treatments are being evaluated as a means of removing the chrome spinel impurity from the ilmenite and as a result of the roast and magnetic separation treatments, the chrome spinels can be expected to be concentrated in the non-magnetic reject fractions. It is from these fractions that attempts were made in this study to recover a chromium-rich product by magnetic fractionation and by application of flotation. The high gauss non-magnetic rejects from the roasting of a primary and a secondary ilmenite fraction were magnetically fractionated to obtain a product with 40.5 and 28.7 per cent Cr2O3,respectively. From the high gauss non-magnetic reject from the roasting of a primary ilmenite, flotation produced a chromium-rich product assaying 29.5 wt per cent Cr2O3at 69.0 per cent recovery. In another test a magnetic fraction assaying 32.9 wt per cent Cr2O3was floated to yield a chromium-rich product with 39.7 wt per cent Cr2O3at 96.4 per cent recovery. X-ray diffraction patterns of all the products indicated that the spinel concentrated was a ferroan magnesiochromite with rutile, ilmenite and hematite as impurities. Since all products were from a single pass, further processing can be expected to remove the impurity minerals and yield higher grade products. The material produced from the Murray Basin ilmenites in this study had similar compositions to commercial chromite ores, except for titania levels that were much higher. The high titania levels were due to residual rutile in the products, but it is expected that this can be removed with further processing. The mineral sand deposits in the Murray Basin are scattered over a wide area and the amount of chromite that may be produced from each of these deposits is unlikely to be sufficient to support an export market. Consequently, any chromite produced in the Murray Basin will most likely need to be processed locally to value added products for a niche market such as chemicals production. This paper will focus on two topics, namely (1) an innovative process for the neutralization and partial sulphate removal of acid streams produced during coal mining and processing and (2)optimization of this integrated neutralization process by adding small amounts of synthetic organic polymers. The integrated lime and limestone process has been developed to neutralize acid mine water and to remove sulphate (to less than1 200 mg/l), magnesium and metals. Limestone and lime treatment is the most cost-effective technology for neutralization and partial sulphate removal of acidic/sulphate-rich water to sulphate levels of less than 1 500 mg/l due to precipitation of magnesium and removal of the associated sulphate fraction (through gypsum crystallization). Neutralized mine water of this quality may be suitable for irrigation. The process consists of the following stages: 1. Limestone (CaCO3) neutralization to raise the pH to 7 and CO2-production. 2. Lime (Ca(OH)2) treatment to pH 12 for Mg(OH)2precipi-tation and gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O) crystallization. 3. pH adjustment with CO2recovered from stage 1 and CaCO3 precipitation. Retention times of 1 hour, 4 hours and 1/2an hour were required by stages 1, 2, and 3 respectively. The sulphate level was reduced to 1 094 mg/l, which is less than the original aim of 1 200mg/l. Chemical costs associated with neutralization, using limestone instead of lime, are reduced by 69% in the integrated limestone/lime process. The overflow water from the clarifier of each of the above stages generally contains a wide variety of colloidal impurities that may cause the water to appear turbid or may impart colour. This results in very slow sludge settling rates that cause overflow water with a high degree of turbidity and colour. There are a number of successive or simultaneous stages involved in the agglomeration of particles. To get optimum neutralisation of the acid water and partial sulphate removal to below the saturation level of gypsum (i.e. 1 500mg/l), maximum sludge recovery is needed. The higher the concentration of seed crystals, the larger the surface area. Therefore, effective removal of suspended and colloidal matter from the overflow of each stage is required and can be achieved by coagulation and flocculation. The polymers PAC6 and 3095 were effectively used as coagulant and flocculant respectively. The addition of these polymers resulted in a clear overflow in each of the above stages with a very low turbidity.

A three-stage operative planning of mining operations in ore opencasts is considered. The hierarchy of monthly-weekly, weekly-daily, daily-shift planning is offered. For the fastest elimination and deviations in problematic situations a level is analysed and weekly-daily or monthly-weekly operative plans are being constantly updated. Operative planning is formulated on information received of preparation and working of mining panels. The electronic maps of these panels are considered for automated operative planning. On the data of the registration of blasthole drillings on a panel, the position of blasthole entry, their depth and the number of a line are determined. The geologist specifies boundaries of ore grades by the bored silt. The qualitative characteristics of ores are determined by the chemical analysis of slime or magnetic logging of blastholes. The missing geologic information is obtained by interpolation on the data of detailed and operational explorations. During working of the mining panel the technologists mark the movement of shovels, associating this movement to blastholes. For this purpose technological attributes are used: when was the blasthole drilled, what drill-rig participated in drilling, what shovel was used and when was it worked? Around each blasthole the zone of its influence is built up. It represents a discrete, elementary volume of ore or waste. The discrete form of the data is most convenient, as it allows step-by-step methods to be employed of the scheduled tasks in many and various combinations. The account panel working technology avoids ‘combination’ explosions. The elementary blocks should be placed in a trajectory of shovel movement and the trajectory can not be arbitrary. It’s determined by the technological rules of extracting and loading of mine mass. In linking to blastholes, the trajectory of shovels is simulated by the sum of step-by-step moving from one elementary block to another. For this purpose a geometrical linkage of blastholes is used. At a railway haulage, or complete mining with truck haulage, the trajectory of movement is a shuttle along the front of operations in the panel. At a selective mining of ores the number of possible directions is limited to three: moving of a shovel by idle running along the front of operations in the panel, frontal pull all the way down of the panel, and withdrawal. The technologically acceptable trajectories of shovel movement are stored for the following estimation and selection of the best. The estimation is carried out on mathematical models with criteria on the method of the least squares of deviations based on preset parameters from the plan, uniform loading of shovels, and mixing of ore at unloading points. The equations of balance type and directive parameters of the plan, as well as technological restrictions of solid and of elementary blocks within the limits of a trajectory are the restrictions of the model. Depending on an industrial situation it is possible to choose one of the predetermined models. The presented technique is used for longitudinal shovel bench at the Erdenet ore-dressing company.

Geotechnical tests were carried out within an area of the coastal sand dune cordon of northern KwaZulu-Natal which is currently being exploited through mining of heavy mineral sands. In situ and laboratory tests were carried out to assess the density, strength and stability of the dune sand material before and after mining. The most stable combination of sand (>63µm) and fines(<63µm) material was determined as well as the effects of compaction on the strength and permeability of the sand dune samples. In situ DCP and density tests showed that the sand dunes fall in density immediately after mining has taken place. However, settlement of the dunes occurs with time and the density increases within the top 2 metres, and particularly once the dunes become re-vegetated. Laboratory tests carried out showed that the dune sand with between 20% and 30% added fines had the highest shear strength and dry density, but the permeability was shown to decrease steadily with increasing fines up to 40% fines added. The addition of fines would result in steadily increasing water flow problems. Compaction of the dune sands was shown to significantly increase the density and the shear strength, but with a corresponding dramatic decrease in the permeability of the material. Slope stability analysis carried out on models of the dunes with increasing fines showed that the addition of fines increases the stability of the dune sands up to a peak of about 30% fines added, and compaction further increases the stability of the dune sands. Despite the benefits of compaction on the stability of the tailings dunes, the loss of permeability is thought to outweigh the benefits as well as the high costs involved. The stability of the tailings dunes greatly increases after re-vegetation. Compaction and densification of the tailings dunes may be necessary within the top 2 m interval if large-scale construction takes place on the sand dunes. Petrographic analysis was performed to understand the granular interactions of the sand and fines fractions, and the effect of the in situ weathering of the dune sands on the stability of the sand dunes. As the fines contents increase the gaps between the sand grains are filled, until a point where the percentage of fines begins to push the sand grains apart.

ABSTRACT: A three dimensional constitutive law for swelling rock is presented. It can be applied to the osmotic swelling of mudstone as well as to the swelling of rocks containing anhydrite. It describes the development of time-dependent strains and stresses due to swelling considering elastic and viskoplastic behaviour. Furthermore an anisotropic swelling behaviour can be considered. This constitutive model was implemented within a numerical computation program according to the finite element method and calibrated on the basis of the results of measurements in the investigation drift of the Freudenstein tunnel which is completely located in the unleached Gypsum Keuper. A parameter combination could be found which results in a good agreement between numerical solutions and results of measurements. Therewith an analysis procedure which enables the design of tunnels in swelling rock is available. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird ein dreidimensionales Quellgesetz vorgestellt, das nach derzeitigem Kenntnisstand sowohl auf das osmotische Quellen von Tonsteinen als auch auf das Quellen anhydrithaltiger Ton- beziehungsweise Schluffsteine anwendbar ist. Das Stoffgesetz wurde in ein Finite-Elemente-Programm implementiert und anhand von Meßergebnissen des im unausgelaugten Gipskeuper liegenden Untersuchungsstollens des Freudensteintunnels kalibriert. Es ist gelungen, eine Kennwertkombination zu finden, mit der alle Meßergebnisse gut beschrieben werden können. Damit steht ein Bemessungsverfahren für Tunnel in quellfähigem Gebirge zur Verfügung. RÉSUMÉ: Dans l&apos;article présent un loi de gonflement à trois dimensions est présenté, qui peut être appliqué aussi bien au gonflement osmotique de l&apos;argile compactée q&apos;au gonflement de l&apos;argile compactée ou du limon compacté contenant de l&apos;anhydrite. Le loi de comportement était implémenté dans un programme numérique d&apos;éléments finis et calibré avec des résultats de mesures de la galerie de recherche du tunnel de Freudenstein, situé dans le Keuper de gypse non lessivé. On est réussi à trouver une combinaison de paramètres avec laquelle tous les résultats de mesures peuvent être bien décrits. Par ce moyen, une méthode de dimensionnement existe pour des tunnels dans de la roche capable de gonfler.

Caving is a mass mining method that is normally applied to large, low grade orebodies because of its low production cost and high capacity. However, equipment breakdown and poor draw management can cause mining costs to exceed that of all other mining methods. One way to minimize the effect of disruptions in the mining cycle is to use Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) for long-term scheduling. This paper describes a MILP goal program which has the dual objectives of minimizing deviation from the ideal draw profile while achieving a production target. Schedule optimization is performed using a life of mine approach in which all production periods are optimized simultaneously. The underlying assumption being that material mixing in the short-term (between monthly optimization cycles) has a minimal effect on the long-term state of the panel. Schedule optimization is carried out using six general constraint types to model and control production. The constraint types define: deviation from ideal practice, panel state, material flow conservation, production quality, material flow capacity and production control. These constraints define production targets and drive production toward the ideal profile while maintaining correct mining practice. Application of the model using production scheduling data for a De Beers kimberlite mine. It is shown how different production control constraints regulate production from individual drawpoints as well as recovery of the ideal panel profile by implementing an optimised draw schedule.

The excavation damage zone (EDZ) caused by drill and blast excavation consists of intense damage adjacent to the remaining half barrel of the blast hole, new fracturing induced by the blast and reactivation of pre-existing fractures. The properties of intense microfracturing adjacent to the half barrels of remaining blast holes are based on study of rock samples from ZEDEX-tunnel and it’s extension at Äspö and the Research tunnel at Olkiluoto in Finland. The new and reactivated fracturing is based on results of mapping of slots cut in the rock in ZEDEX-project. The zone of increased porosity adjacent to half barrels, which penetrates to a depth of some centimeters was studied by using novel 14C-PMMA method. The penetration of the radial fractures, which is an order of magnitude deeper, was studied by mapping using color penetrant. Results of EDZ studies carried out at Äspö HRL in Sweden and in Research Tunnel at Olkiluoto show that the properties of EDZ can be affected significantly by engineering design. The result imply that the additional pore volume caused by distinct fracturing around the blast holes caused by state-of-the-art smooth blasting technique could be of the same order as that of the damaged zone adjacent to the surface of the half barrels. Durch Bohr- und Sprengarbeiten entstandene Eigenschaften der Auflockerungszone: Die durch Bohr- und Sprengarbeiten entstandene Auflockerungszone besteht aus einem großen, an das Resthalbrohr des Bohrloches angrenzenden Schaden, neuer Rissbildung und einer Reaktivierung der bereits existierenden Risse. Die Eigenschaften einer immensen, an die Halbrohre der Restbohrlöcher angrenzenden Mikrorissbildung beruhen auf einer Studie über die aus dem ZEDEX-Tunnel gewonnenen Gesteinsproben und deren Fortsetzung im Untertage-Labor Äspö (Hard Rock Laboratory, HRL) in Schweden und im Forschungstunnel bei Olkiluoto in Finnland. Die neue und reaktivierte Rissbildung basiert auf den Auswertungsergebnissen der Schlitze, die bei dem ZEDEX-Projekt ins Gestein geschnitten wurden. Die Zone der vermehrten, an die Halbrohre angrenzenden Porösität, die in ein paar Zentimeter Tiefe eindringt, wurde anhand der neuen 14C-PMMA-Methode untersucht. Das Eindringen der etwas tiefer gelegenen radialen Risse wurde anhand eines farbigen Eindringungsmittels untersucht. Die in Äspö und Olkiluoto durchgeführten EDZ-Studien zeigen, dass die EDZ-Eigenschaften wesentlich durch Engineering Design beeinflusst werden können. Das durch Bohrarbeiten verursachte Hohlraumvolumen der Rissbildung um den Tunnel herum ist ähnlich wie das Hohlraumvolumen der Bruchzone um die Bohrlöcher herum. Caractéristiques d’une zone endommagée par le creusement résultant d’un creusement par forage et dynamitage: La zone endommagée par le creusement résultant d’un creusement par forage et dynamitage présente un endommagement intense adjacent au demi-cylindre restant du trou de mine, une nouvelle fracturation et la réactivation des fractures préexistantes. Les caractéristiques de la microfracturation intense adjacente aux demi-cylindres des trous de mine restants reposent sur l’étude des échantillons de roche en provenance du tunnel ZEDEX et de son extension au laboratoire souterrain d’Äspö (« Hard Rock Laboratory » ou HRL) en Suède et du tunnel de recherche d’Olkiluoto en Finlande. La fracturation nouvelle et réactivée repose sur les résultats du placement des rainures sur la roche dans le projet ZEDEX. La zone de porosité accrue adjacente aux demi-cylindres et pénétrant à une profondeur de quelques centimètres à fait l’objet d’études recourant à la nouvelle méthode 14C-PMMA. La pénétration des fractures radiales, considérablement plus profondes, a été étudiée par placement en utilisant un agent pénétrant coloré. Les résultats des études EDZ effectuées à Äspö et à Olkiluoto montrent que les caractéristiques de l’EDZ sont susceptibles d’être affectées de manière significative par la conception technique. Le volume vide de fracturation résultant du dynamitage autour du tunnel est du même ordre que celui de la zone concassée autour des trous de mine.service.

Coal is Australia’s highest export earner and Australia is the world’s largest exporter of coal. With coal now being extracted from deeper reserves under increased risk profile, and in the interest of aiding the stability of coal supplies, Japan is funding a number of safety projects in Australia and China. The CSIRO, Australia’s premiere research organisation with the country’s largest exploration and mining research group, are currently undertaking a jointly funded Japan-Australia safety project at Anglo Coal’s new Grasstree Colliery in central Queensland. The project, entitled Mine Communication and Information for Real-time Risk Analysis, will deliver step-change capabilities in data integration, decision support, gas monitoring, geo-technical monitoring, emergency response and personnel safety to the Grasstree Colliery. Some key activities include: developing and installing underground coal mine Ethernet LAN components, real-time monitoring of gas and geo-technical sensors, MODBUS serial to TCP/IP converters, e-reporting of underground conditions, emergency guidance systems and underground trials of Internet Protocol telephone and video. The project seeks to integrate (in real time) key data sets from the comprehensive and diversified range of propriety system currently in use at mines (ventilation, strata, operations e.g. haulage, pumps, conveyors etc) into a single integrated risk management interface. A series of measurements of induced stress by the Compact Conical-ended Borehole Overcoring (CCBO) technique was performed within rock mass around a tunnel excavated in a region that an underground powerhouse is constructed under high initial rock stress. In the measurements, a phenomenon of core disking was observed during overcoring. The selecting method of strain data uninfluenced by the core disking was proposed, using X-ray CT scanner. Then, the state of induced stress determined from the selected strain data was discussed, comparing with the state of initial stress. Eine Serie von Messungen von induzierter Belastung mit kompaktem konisch-beendetem Überbohrverfahren (CCBO) wurde in Felsmassen um einen Tunnel ausgeführt, der in einer Region gebohrt wurde wo ein unterirdisches Kraftwert unter hoher anfänglicher Felsbelastung gebaut wird. Bei den Messungen wurde beim Überbohrverfahren ein Phänomen des Core Disking beobachtet. Die gewählte Methode der Belastungsdaten, unbeeinflusst durch Core Disking wurde vorgeschlagen, unter Verwendung von Röntgen-CT-Scanner. Dann wurde der Zustand der induzierten Belastung aus den gewählten Belastungsdaten diskutiert, unter Vergleich mit der ursprünglichen Belastung. Une série de mesures de contrainte induite effectuée avec la technique de forage de sur-carottage compacte à embout conique a été exécutée dans la masse rocheuse autour d&apos;un tunnel excavé dans une région de construction d&apos;une centrale électrique souterraine sous haute contrainte de roche initiale. Au cours des mesures, un phénomène de discage de carotte a été observé pendant le sur-carottage. La méthode de sélection des données de contrainte non influencée par le discage de carotte a été proposée, en utilisant un scanneur de tomographie calculée aux rayons X. Il s&apos;ensuit que l&apos;état de contrainte induite provoquée et déterminé à partir des données de la contrainte sélectionnées a été traitée, en effectuant une comparaison avec l&apos;état de contrainte initiale.
