"The oxidized and mixed ores are processed by heap leaching. Primary ores with high gold content are floated. In recent years mining of primary ores with the low gold content (up to 4 ppm) has increased. Extraction of gold from these ores by floatation is technologically ineffective. Gravity concentration is ineffective for fine gold particles because of their floatability. The research objective was assessment of the viability of processing gold-bearing ore with combined gravitational and hydrometallurgical methods and testing of recovery of metals from a gold-copper oxidized ore chloride-hypochlorite leaching solution. The advantage of chloride-hypochlorite lixiviant is the low cost of reagents which is produced by the electrochemical synthesis of NaCl solution with the addition of HCl. The adsorption of chlorine compounds by a mineral matrix and its ability to oxidize the refractory ore components and allows for the application of chloride-hypochlorite systems for gold recovery for both oxidized and primary ores. The complexity and problem in using a gold–chloride system is the strong adsorption of gold–chloride complexes onto mineral surfaces, such as goethite, quartz, and alumina. In preliminary testing, gold recovery from gravity circuit gold bearing concentrates processed by agitation leaching in chloride-hypochlorite solution, gold recovery has reached up 82% after 4 hours of leaching. Chloride-hypochlorite leaching of copper-gold oxidized ore with preliminary processing by sulfuric acid provided for 94 % gold recovery to solution. Understanding of ecological hazard of cyanides is the motive power of researches in the field of search non-cyanic chemistries to provide for technologically and economically effective solvents of gold. Soluble compounds of chlorine with a suitable oxidizer are one of the alternatives to cyanides. Basic researches of gold extraction by chloride-hypochlorite solution have shown high rates of gold recovery.INTRODUCTION Because of the continued and growing environmental concern for the use of cyanide for gold processing, interest for the use of non-cyanide lixiviants, especially with halides has renewed recently (Tran et al., 2001; Ferron et al., 2003; Bhaghalha, 2007). Leaching solutions based on halides (chloride, bromide and iodide) are viable alternative to cyanide (Kwang et al., 2008). The major disadvantage of the chlorine–chloride system is the high reactivity of chlorine in reaction with sulfide and gangue carbonate minerals. It is believed that only high grade materials may be treated by chlorine–chloride systems economically (Baghalha, 2007). Another important problem of the application of gold–chloride complex is that it tends to be rather unstable and may re-precipitate upon contact with a reductant, such as sulfidic minerals of ore. It is well known that Au(III)–chloride hydrolysis species are strongly adsorbed by goethite, quartz, and alumina (Machfsky et al., 1991). To minimize adsorption of gold–chloro complexes, it works best to minimize the adsorption time."

"Multimetal gold-antimony ores are complexed processing products, since they are characterized by veindisseminatedsulfide mineralization with fine-dispersed submicroscopic gold, low content and uneven distribution ofAu, which is concentrated together with iron sulfides (pyrite, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite). Such ores are classified asrefractory ones and characterized by low gold recovery rates during cyanation. A particular feature of gold-antimonydeposits is the presence of antimony in industrial concentrations therein, along with gold that significantly increasesthe value of these deposits. The main antimony mineral is antimony sulfide - antimonite (stibnite). Gold-antimonyores undergo flotation concentration with producing collective gold-containing concentrates or gold sulfide andantimony concentrates. The purpose of the work is an experimental study of the flotation separation mechanism ofsulfide minerals of copper, antimony and arsenic using tannin-containing modifiers during processing of multimetalgold-bearing ores. During the research it was established that for the selective separation of antimony and arsenicsulfide minerals into concentrates of different kinds, it is possible to use vegetable reagents capable to be selectivelyadsorbed on the arsenopyrite surface. Using the laser KEYENCE VK-9700 and electronic LEO-1420 VP INCA-350microscopy methods, it has been established that the film of a vegetable modifier was not washed off with water andfixed firmly enough on the surface of the polished sections of arsenopyrite. In the X-ray spectrum there are C and Obands related to the reagent structure. The vegetative reagent is fixed both on the pre-adsorbed phase of the collectorand on the areas free from the collector. On the polished sections of antimonite before and after a contact with thetannin solution, only partial adsorbed tannin phases are detected, which disappear as a result of subsequent washingwith water.The reported study was funded by RFBR according to the research project ? 16-05-00646 ?."

Goethite ore are the third most abundant source of iron. The overwhelming part of these ore is represented by low-grade varieties which cannot be used in iron and steel industry without preliminary beneficiation. Biomass is a renewable solid fuel, which is feasible for the substitution of coke and coal in the manufacturing due to its lower contents of harmful elements and abundant raw material sources. Utilization of biomass in iron ore sintering process as heating agent and reducing agent contributes to energy conservation and emission reduction. The biomass was mixed together with goethite ore for roasting process to investigate the effects of reduction roasting. The results show that the goethite ore is dramatically reduced and magnetized into maghemite by biomass with the biomass dosage less than 20% and the roasting temperature below 650 oC. When the goethite ore roasted with biomass, the magnetization values could be enhanced more than two orders of magnitude, meets the standard of magnetic separation, which could significantly reduce the iron beneficiation cost. Calcined calcium oxide from limestone is hydrated to manufacture calcium hydroxide, and then precipitated calcium carbonate is synthesized from calcium hydroxide. Precipitated calcium carbonate of various morphologies is obtained by controlled conditions of each step and characteristics of limestone, calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide. Especially characteristics of calcium hydroxide have the most influence on morphology of precipitated calcium carbonate character. In this study, therefore, it is investigated the specific surface area of calcium hydroxide and morphology of precipitated calcium carbonate according to hydration temperature. Calcium hydroxide hydrated at high initial temperature has larger particle size than that hydrated at low initial temperature. And formation yield of aragonite precipitated calcium carbonate has improved by using calcium hydroxide had larger particle size (hydrated at high initial temperature).

Indian National Steel Policy envisages ambitious three fold rise in steel production by the year 2020. This paper covers the iron ore industry in India which cater to the need of iron ore requirement of Indian iron and steel sector as well as export commitment in addition to addressing the industry?s key concern to attain the same. The main contents are (i) resources and its exploitation; covering status of exploration, reserves and resources, province wise occurrences, distribution, nature of mineralization and generation of fines, etc ; (ii) use of iron ore in iron and steel making, covering physical and chemical requirements for pig iron and sponge iron production; (iii) ore characteristics and beneficiation practice in vogue; (iv) projected steel demand and requirement of quality iron ore and provision thereof; (v) recovery of iron values from in situ low-grade ores and stacked fine rejects (-10/-6 mm) inclusive of slimes (-0.15 mm) from tailing ponds; (vi) agglomeration of fine concentrates preferably by pelletization; (vii) measures to augment iron ore availability for future requirements.

"The heavy residual fraction of the mechanical and biological treatment (MBT) plants treating undifferentiated municipal solid waste is mostly composed by inert materials, such as glass, stones, ceramics and brick. Glass, appearing in significant grade and amount, is not recycled today due to the high content in the other materials, mainly stones. All these materials have approximately the same density but stones have significantly different shape from other materials particles. In this paper it is presented the research developed to eliminate stones appearing in the fine fraction (2.8-8 mm) of the MBT plants heavy residual fraction (MBTr) using a shaking table operated in dry conditions. Two different samples from two different MBT plants were used. Firstly, the samples were characterized (materials content and particle size analysis). Then, laboratory work was carried out to optimize the operation of the shaking table, by changing the machine parameters, deck slope and movement frequency. The study showed that it is possible to upgrade the product in glass. The best results, obtained with one single stage of processing, were 82% content in glass with 84% in recovery, in the glass concentrate, when the coarser fraction (-8+5.6 mm) of one of the MBT plants was used. With the intermediate particle size fraction (-5.6 + 4mm), the glass concentrate attained 74% content in glass with 91% recovery."

"Test work was carried out using copper gold-bearing flotation concentrate with 6.85%Cu, 14.30%Fe, 20.70%S and 2.34%As. Gold and silver grade in the concentrate is 54.6 g/t and 92 g/t, respectively. Gold and copper are valuable components in the concentrate. Gold is partially associated with pyrite and fahlores. Copper in the concentrate can be found as tennantite (Cu12As4S13). The 71% of gold from the flotation concentrate is recoverable by cyanidation with simultaneous cyanide consumption in the amount of 96 kg/t. The major reason of refractoriness is that gold is fine encapsulated into sulfides and the presence of cyanicide-copper. The concentrate ground as much as 95% minus 10 µm was treated using low-temperature POX at the temperature of 100±5°C, L:S ratio of 5:1 and the process time of 1-5 hours. Residual sulfide sulfur in the cake is 2.28% which is 89% sulfide oxidation. The highest copper recovery to POX solution is 91%. It was found that gold recovery to cyanide solution is 85-94% during alkaline pre-treatment of POX cakes followed by cyanidation. In this case, cyanide and lime consumption is 75-90 kg/t and 120 kg/t, respectively. In order to recover precious metals from POX cakes leaching using sodium sulfite was carried out. Test work was conducted at varied reagent concentration, L:S ratio and leaching time. Gold and silver recovery achieved was 85-95% and 59-63%, respectively."

Frother concentration is a variable which significantly affects the flotation performance by decreasing bubble size and helping froth stabilization. Variations in frother concentration, which mostly go unnoticed in industrial operations, may affect these functions. Some factors that can cause variations include the fact that frothers are normally dosed based on feed tonnage and not solution concentration, unstable frother delivery, incomplete dissolution for low solubility frothers, addition of frother-free wash water, remnant frother in recycle waters and frother partitioning to the froth. A colorimetric technique developed for determining frother concentration on site makes it possible to detect the occurrence of these problems and to establish their magnitude, allowing conditions to be adjusted to reduce frother concentration variations. By sampling and analysis, frother distribution throughout a circuit can be established, referred to as ‘frother distribution mapping’. Experiences at several concentrators processing sulphide ores are used to illustrate time restrictions for sample analysis, and to demonstrate temporal and spatial frother concentration changes as a consequence of variations in the grinding stage, recycled waters containing frother, and frother partitioning.

Doré process is unique way to treat precious metals in the copper electrorefining plant, since it uses anode slime as a raw material. In this pyrometallurgical process, also slag is produced together with Doré metal. However, the process is never ideal, and a part of metal is always lost into the slag. By using Doré slag as raw material for simply mineral acid leaching, some of the lost elements can be extracted and recovered, thus, increasing the sustainability and keeping metals in the circular economy loop. The Doré process itself is developed to convert almost all precious metals and PGMs in the Doré metal, leaving other elements into the slag fraction. The Doré slag consist of slag formers, such as borax and silica based minerals, but contain also traces of sealing materials. In addition, the Doré slag is rich in metals present in the anode slime, such as Cu, Bi and Sb, which are not converted into the Doré metal. There are only few published applications at the precious metal plants, where conservative grinding and flotation circuits have been utilized for the enrichment of valuable metals present in the Doré slag fraction (Godbehere, P.W., 1983; Segawa, C. and Kusakabe, T., 1996). However, the present study shows an alternative approach for the recovery of metals present in the Doré slag by hydometallurgical approach. The study focus on direct mineral acid (aqua regia) leaching of metals present in the Doré slag. The initial dissolved concentrations of Cu, Bi and Sb from Doré slag in the temperature range of 30-50 °C under oxygen purging with addition of 1 vol-% of H2O2 are presented. Chemical and mineralogical analyses were performed for the raw material, leaching residue, and leaching solutions in order to ascertain the leaching behavior of the metals of Bi, Cu and Sb.

"Scarcity of freshwater in mining operations in arid zones in different parts of the world has led to the mining companies to think about using seawater as an alternative source in mineral processing operations. Examples of this situation are Minera Centinela (AMSA) and Minera Sierra Gorda (KGHM), both plants located in northern Chile. Previous studies showed that molybdenite flotation is depressed at high pH values in seawater as a result of the action of hydroxy-complexes of magnesium and calcium that attach to the faces of the molybdenite particles, reducing its hydrophobicity and as a result flotation recovery. In this work, a study of the interactions between molybdenite and kaolinite is presented. The effect of sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) dispersant on the recovery of molybdenite in the presence of kaolinite is studied in different aqueous media and it is correlated with induction time data. The results allow to conclude that kaolinite has a stronger depressing effect on molybdenite in seawater compared to its effect in freshwater. Magnesium and calcium are the cations that have the strongest effect in enhancing the interactions between molybdenite and kaolinite. SHMP reduces the negative effect of kaolinite on the floatability of molybdenite both in seawater and freshwater. The induction time data correlate well with the micro-flotation results.INTRODUCTION The need for water in mining processes in arid and semi-arid zones has led to the search for new alternatives for this resource, among which seawater has gained an important space. In Chile, most of the mining operations are located in the northern part of the country, an area that has limited availability of freshwater for the processing of copper and molybdenum sulfides (Castro and Laskowski, 2011, Castro et al., 2012 a). Seawater is an aqueous solution with high concentrations of ions such as Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, So42-, Cl-, and other less concentrated species which generate important effects in the flotation process as they modify the properties of the solid/liquid, and liquid/gas interfaces, and also increase the consumption of some important reagents used to depress pyrite such as lime. It has also been proposed that flotation of copper sulfides is negatively affected in seawater because of the reduction of oxygen solubility compared to freshwater (Millero et al., 2002; Duan and Sun, 2003). In contrast, it has been shown that the presence of ions in solution in the process of flotation of natural hydrophobic resources improve recovery as result of the compression of the electric double layer (Laskowski, 1974; Klassen and Mokrousov, 1963, Laskowski and Castro, 2008."

To comprehensively utilize the valuable resource in tailings, increase the economic benefit of mine, reduce the amount of tailings, prolong the service life of tailing dam, the comprehensive utilization of tailing resource is arousing the attention of more and more mines. Research of comprehensive recovery of feldspar and silica from Cu-Mo floatation tailings has been furthered. Technology of "De-sliming-Magnetic Separation-Reverse Flotation-Feldspar and Silica Separation" has been developed to utilize the resource. Slime is removed and reagents cost is reduced by de-sliming. The specific effective collector ZL is used in gangues reverse flotation, and GZ-818 is the collector in feldspar and silica separation. The grinding operation is vital to ensure the liberation degree of feldspar and to eliminate the reagents pollution on minerals surface. To a Cu-Mo flotation tailing assaying K2O 5.22%, Na2O 2.22%, Fe2O3 1.95%, Al2O3 12.05%, SiO270.66%, superfine K-feldspar and silica concentrates can be produced. The feldspar concentrate productivity is 29.67% assaying K2O 8.99%, Na2O 2.86%, Fe2O3 0.16%, Al2O3 16.99% and SiO2 68.92%. The silica concentrate productivity is 14.20% assaying 0.17% K2O, 0.04% Na2O, 0.01% Fe2O3, 0.55% Al2O3 and 98.17% SiO2. The technology provides technological reference model for the similar mines.

Aim of experimental investigations was the mathematical description of the abrasion process running with a single particle stress. This is on the one hand the basis for the physical interpretation of the process, on the other hand the base for the simulation of abrasion processes carried out in technical scale. With this investigation for the first time the influence of the particle shape changing with increasing abrasion progress was quantitatively described. This influence affects itself particularly strongly on break-fresh particles up to an abrasion degree of approximately 10 to 20%. This is for the description of technical processes the most interesting area.

Emissions from pyrometallurgical processing of copper concentrates are usually subjected to wet scrubbing. The washing sulphuric acid so produced contains up to 0.2 g/L of rhenium, which is recovered by solvent extraction in the form of crude ammonia permeate (NH4ReO4). The mother liquor, obtained from the sulfuric acid wash, contains up to 35 g/L of rhenium and significant amounts of impurities. Crude rhenium salt is commonly processed by double recrystallization to produce marketable salt. A ton of high grade NH4ReO4 can be produced using 3.0-3.5 m3 of mother liquor. We propose an efficient technology of mother liquor pre-treatment aimed at removal of water-soluble organics with subsequent electrodialysis. Electrodialysis of mother liquor in a multichamber electrodialyzer resulted in the production of pure rhenium acid, from which a marketable NH4ReO4 is precipitated using ammonia solution. Multiple steps of recycling consisting of dissolution of NH4ReO4 salt, rhenium acid production from NH4ReO4 salt by electrodialysis and precipitation of NH4ReO4 from rhenium acid made it possible to upgrade the purity of obtained rhenium compounds by 1-2 orders of magnitude. A rhenium metal powder of 99.997% purity was produced by high-temperature reduction of high-purity NH4ReO4 with gaseous hydrogen. Rhenium metal powder of high purity can be produced from sulfate solutions of NH4ReO4 by non-platinum anode-based membrane electrolysis processes also. Facing the optimization activities, which purpose is to minimize the copper processing costs, the main sources of their occurring were presented. In this purpose, the costs analysis was performed, divided to individual standings, for one of the polish copper beneficiation plants. It was proved, that the main component of the copper beneficiation costs is energy consumption, generated mainly in grinding and classification node, particularly by operating mills. The technological system ? grinding and classification node ? in KGHM Polska Miedz S.A., ZWR region Lubin was then selected to investigation. To evaluate the grinding and classification node, the energetic factors W were proposed, calculated on the basis of the energetic-technological data of process, given by node monitoring system. The correctness of the energetic factors selection to evaluate the work of this node and their practical application in industrial conditions was experimentally proved in other technological object. The selected technological object ? grinding and classification node ? was then mathematically modeled and optimized. The calculated energetic factors were the basis to build mathematical models, identifying industrial copper grinding and classification process. The models described correlation and character of dependency between factors and energetic-technical data of the process. These were regressive and neural networks models. On the basis of factors models, the optimization tasks were determined, which purpose was to select the optimal points of grinding and classification node work. Also, the estimated economical effect, possible to achieve after introduction of given monitoring values to grinding and classification node optimization system, was presented.

"Previous studies described by Galvin et al. (2017) have shown that for Australian bituminous coal fines, both in batch and in continuous process, the new improved oil agglomeration procedure based on the use of high-internal-phase (HIP) emulsions, as compared to the conventional “pure oil” agglomeration process, enables a significant reduction in the amount of oil while reaching a high yield of clean coal (approximately 90% of agglomerates greater than 355 µm in size) in a significantly shorter time. The HIP emulsion used in these experiments comprised up to 95% vol. aqueous solution of sodium chloride (3% wt. concentration) and for the rest, a mixture of kerosene (oil) and sorbitan monooleate (SMO emulsifier) in a 1:1 ratio as a binder. This study evaluates the applicability of the new HIP-oil agglomeration process to treat Canadian bituminous ultra-fine coal and Russian sub-bituminous coal fines and compares results from agglomeration to the flotation response of both coals. Oil agglomeration is known to be sensitive to surface properties of coal. Since surface properties of coals depend not only on the rank of coal but also on their origin (depositional environment) and mineralogical composition, both the applicability of this new improved agglomeration process to the non-Australian coals and its efficiency became the motivation for this study. To evaluate the applicability of the new process to both Canadian bituminous and Russian sub-bituminous coals, a series of bench-scale tests were carried out under conditions similar to those described by van Netten et al. (2016) for the Australian coals. Based on the results obtained in this research, new boundary conditions for the application of the HIP emulsion-based oil agglomeration process have been outlined and conclusions on the viability of the new process to treat ultra-fine coal from Western Canada and Russian sub-bituminous coal fines have been reached.INTRODUCTION In most cases, to meet the market requirements, the mined coal has to be processed to reduce the ash content by the removal of mineral matter and thus to increase the quality of the coal products (van Netten et al., 2016). Generally, flotation is used for processing fines from high rank coals; however, there are high losses of very fine coal due to the inefficiency of this process. Furthermore, difficulty in dewatering the fine coal results in excessive moisture levels causing coal handleability issues, which increases costs in the coal-cleaning industry (Capes & Darcovich, 1984). Much of the development that has occurred in fine coal cleaning has taken place with higher-value coal, often metallurgical (Klima et al., 2012). If the fine coal is deemed to be too difficult or expensive to process, it may be discarded as waste (van Netten et al, 2014). Such disposal not only creates an environmental liability but may also result in the loss of a valuable, high quality product that is better liberated than the coarser fractions of coal."

"Following the adopted strategy for making the production modern, efficient and environmental friendly the Company completed a stage of the integrated program aimed at reconfiguration of its processing capacity.Upgrade of the Talnakh Concentrator with commissioning of two start-up facilities (SF) allowed an increase of 30% in its ore processing capacity up to 10 mtpa. In addition to a new high-tech equipment installed, a new concentration process was adopted offering the main advantage of 25-30% reduction of sulfides in concentrate. New concentration technology enabled the total amount of produced nickel concentrates (from Norilsk and Talnakh Concentrators) to be processed at upgraded smelting facilities of Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant and allowed decommissioning of smelting capacities of Nickel Plant resulting in emissions reduction by 30%.Nornickel plans to boost the capacity of Talnakh Concentrator to 18 mtpa by 2022, after commissioning of the 3rd SF. This will provide a shorter route for ores transportation from Talnakh mines along with improvement of cost/performance ratio of ore processing through the usage of the modern equipment and optimized concentration flow scheme. Total capacity of Talnakh Concentrator will be sufficient to process ores from Talnakh deposits with planned upstream assets development taken into account. Volume of ore mined from Norilsk deposits to be processed at Norilsk Concentrator will be also increased.Upgrading the crushing section at Kola MMC Concentrator in 2015 provided finer particles of the crushed ore, resulting in 6.6% increase in specific capacity of ore mills as well as 1% higher recovery of non-ferrous metals due to improved liberation of ore minerals.In 2015-2017 the Company was actively engaged in optimization of existing process flow schemes and parameters of Kola MMC, new high-performance reagents were adopted for concentration process, namely, collectors, depressors, flocculants. These measures allowed the Concentrator to reduce its annual operating unit costs and ensure sustainable production of concentrate with the lower grade of the incoming feedstock.Launched in October 2017, Bystrinsky GOK’s Concentrator was 3D designed and received a range of advanced technological solutions.All design process procedures and technologies rolled-out at the Company’s concentrators were developed by Russian R&D institutes, with the key role of Gipronickel Institute, R&D Service of Kola MMC and Polar Division's in-house Engineering Support Centre."

"Acid leaching in agitated tanks is central to hydrometallurgical processing for valuable metals’ (e.g., copper, gold, nickel and cobalt) recovery from low grade (e.g., < 2 wt.%) ores. In this study, atmospheric leaching behaviour of Australian saprolitic nickel (Ni) laterite ore using sulfuric acid was investigated under isothermal, batch conditions at pH 1. The effect of primary process variables comprising time (4 h) and temperature (70 and 95 oC) on the leaching mechanisms and kinetics was established for -2 mm, low grade (~1 % Ni) saprolitic ore dispersions at 40 wt.% solid loading. Leaching proceeded incongruently, reflecting the proliferation of gangue minerals’ constituent elements (e.g., Mg, Al, Fe) alongside Ni and Co in the pregnant leach solutions (PLS). Subsequent analysis showed that 89% Ni and 78% Co were extracted after 4 h at 95 oC whilst at 70 oC the recoveries of these metals were markedly low (< 25 %). Overall, 177 and 644 kg H2SO4 /t dry ore were consumed at 70 and 95 oC, respectively. Activation energy of 79.0 ±1.0 kJ/mol was estimated for the mechanism of Ni and Co leaching and associated kinetics. Particles size analyses indicated that when the breakage of frail laterite particles due to shear is taken into consideration, differences in feed and leached product particle size distributions were insignificant , despite a remarkable increase in BET specific surface area of the product. Mineralogical analyses of the feed ore and leached solid products revealed a sub-crystalline silica phase enrichment of the latter. The overall results suggest that the mechanism of acid leaching of saprolitic Ni laterite may be described by a chemical reaction-controlled, shrinking core model."

"Among the problems of the civilization development, a problem of interaction between man and natural environment can be highlighted. In the twentieth century the human transforming activity had got scales of geological processes and defined the contradiction between the goal to increase the quality of human life and possibilities of the natural environment. Last twenty-five years after the World Summit on the Environment (1992) indicate that the development of civilization is still based on receiving super profits from the natural resources exploitation. This statement is confirmed by economy globalization rates, growing contradictions between consumption and production, depletion and degradation natural environment. A new technological order is formed at the time of growing world population, technological capacities, organizational complexity, from one side, and global scales of geo-resources consumption, on the other side. Sciences, determining the further civilization development, should take on the task to change the social worldview, since the preservation of human population consists in remediating and maintenance of biosphere functions as a regulator of ecological balance. The new worldview in the geo-resources exploitation is based on the Ecological strategy of mining development, which consists in reducing mining-induced loading on natural environment while increasing efficient mineral production and processing, and providing for a comprehensive solution of tasks on mineral deposit development. One of strategic trend of mining development is to increase complexity and completeness of useful component extraction from ore and mining deposits while reducing wastes and decreasing their stockpiled volumes. The implementation of the ecological strategy has shown that the future is determined by reduction of the environmental impact while improving the efficiency of mineral mining and processing.INTRODUCTION The global nature of environmental problems caused by the scale of consumption of natural resources, huge amounts of waste, and intensive man-made impact on the environment requires a revision of the strategy for the natural resources development. Many existing technologies are ineffective in achieving the ultimate goal. Direct output in the raw materials - the end product technological chain rarely exceeds 10%, which implies a huge amount of work to move the soil. In addition, the feature of scientific and technological progress at the present stage is the growth of power-to-weight ratio."

"The present research work aims at disclosing the dependence of flotation concentrate recovery and its grade on the physically adsorbed collecting reagent properties, viz., surface pressure in the reagent film at gas-liquid interface, velocity of reagent species spreading over the said interface, relation between interaction energies of collector molecules within a film and with water dipoles.When using a single collecting reagent it is possible to improve the flotation concentrate grade in two ways, namely, by reducing collector consumption rate or using a weaker reagent. According to the proposed mechanism, a decrease in the physically sorbed species of the collector leads to a decrease in the rate of removal of the kinetic restriction of a flotation contact formation. As a result, the recovery of the useful component is reduced and the content of valuable components in the flotation concentrate is increased. The relationship between the spreading velocity of physically sorbed species at the gas-liquid interface and the recovery and quality of the flotation concentrate has been experimentally proved. Reduction in collector consumption lowered the valuable component recovery at a higher grade of the concentrate.The reasons were established for a rise of valuable content in the flotation concentrate if a weaker collector was used. It is justified that the use of a weaker collecting reagent with a shorter hydrocarbon fragment declines physically sorbed species of collector. The spreading velocity of collector derivatives at gas-liquid interface tends to lower along with less participation physically sorbed species of collector in formation of a flotation aggregate. The spreading velocity is determined for products of interaction between butyl-and ethyl-xanthates and lead nitrate at gas-liquid interface. It is found that the spreading velocity of butyl-xanthate derivatives is higher than that of ethylxanthate derivatives.The research work gets insight into the nature of relation between useful component content in the flotation concentrate and the useful component recovery. It is pointed out that adjusting the collecting activity of a collector makes it possible to influence a useful component content in the froth product thus gaining a compromise between wanted grade and recovery parameters."

"The mineral surface characteristic is important for the flotation because it affects the flotation behavior of the mineral. Conventionally, in the flotation process for Cu sulphide ores, the degree of ore floatabilities varies depending on the mineral phase such as chalcopyrite, bornite, or chalcocite. Therefore, mineral surfaces are treated with activators and depressants to control the floatability of target minerals and obtain high recovery performance. There are lots of flotation reagents which have many effects on ores depending on ore characteristics and conditioning methods. For example, sodium hydrosulphide (NaHS) as activator is known to have the effect of resulfurizing and activating oxidized surface of chalcocite and bornite. On the other hand, NaHS is reported to depress chalcopyrite floatability. In this study, the evaluation of mineral surfaces was conducted to predict flotation behavior. Activation of Cu minerals (chalcocite, bornite, and chalcopyrite) by NaHS was experimented. The three Cu minerals were treated in two steps. Firstly, they were oxidized in the drying oven. Secondly, they were treated with NaHS solution. After each treatment step, each mineral was measured by contact angle apparatus then analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results of surface characteristics after oxidation and NaHS treatment were utilized to accomplish the study’s objective. INTRODUCTIONCopper sulfide minerals such as chalcocite (Cu2S), bornite (Cu5FeS4), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) are well-known abundant copper-containing minerals. Generally, these minerals are recovered and concentrated via collector flotation. In flotation, the wettability of the mineral surface is an important factor in its recovery. When the surface is hydrophobic, the mineral has high floatability and when the surface is hydrophilic, it has low floatability. Usually, Cu sulfide minerals have high floatability. However when their surfaces are oxidized, their floatability becomes lower in flotation. In this case of surface oxidation occurrence, activators are added before flotation to modify the surface property of the Cu sulfide minerals so that they can be floated at a certain flotation condition. Sodium hydrosulfide, NaHS, is known as one of the activators. Zhao et al. (2018) reported that NaHS is often used as sulfurizer for oxidized sulfide minerals (Becker et al., 2014, Clark et al., 2000, Newell et al., 2006, 2007, Newell and Bradshaw, 2007). Although the floatability of Cu sulfide minerals was raised by adding NaHS generally, the results of this flotation study showed that the flotation behaviors of mixed chalcocite, bornite, and chalcopyrite were different. Therefore, it was considered that NaHS works differently for each mineral."
