"The processing of copper gold ores is one of the major issues of gold-mining industry in the beginning of 21st century. In this case, application of ammoniacal cyanidation process for this type of mineral raw materials deserves special attention. Irgiredmet Institute has carried out a wide range of studies on ammoniacal cyanidation process and evaluated the possible commercial use of this process for Russian operating plants. Copper gold-bearing ore from a current Russian deposit was studied. The content of gold and copper in the ore is 9.4 g/t and 0.4%, respectively. Based on the results of preliminary test work, a flow sheet was developed. It included gravity concentration followed by cyanidation of the gravity tailings using CIP. The flow sheet provides sufficient total gold recovery (91.5%). However, this technology has disadvantages, such as high specific consumption of reagents: 4.5 kg/t NaCN and 13.5 kg/t Ca(OCl)2 the ore and the increased gold grade in the liquid phase of the tails slurry (0.2 g/t). In order to improve cyanidation process parameters, test work on gravity tails processing using ammoniacal cyanidation was carried out. After the test work was completed, ammoniacal cyanidation flow sheet for copper gold-bearing ores was developed. Leaching conditions were optimized using recycled process solutions. Recommendations on gold recovery from the solutions and tails detoxification are given. The proposed flow sheet provides 91.5% gold recovery. In this case, compared to the conventional option, the consumption of cyanide decreases by 3-4 times.INTRODUCTION The technology of precious metals recovery from gold-bearing ores is based on cyanidation. This accounts for up to 90% gold recovery and the significant portion of silver (Lodeischikov, 1999). However, there exists the category of so called refractory ores. They are not amenable to direct cyanidation (without using additional expensive processes), or they are characterized by low indices of metals recovery and high consumption of reagents. The latter also include copper gold ores. Their deposits can be found extensively both worldwide and in Russian Federation. A feature of these ores is that they contain not only gold but also copper. It is considered not only as a valuable component but also as a harmful mineral impurity that hinders gold cyanidation, gold precipitation from the solutions by cementation onto zinc dust and adsorption onto activated carbon (CIL, CIP-processes), detoxification of cyanide bearing effluents."

This paper presents an arcuate magnetic separator to remove the grinding ball fragment directly from the mill discharge, which will cause wear to downstream processing equipment such as pump, hydro cyclones and pebble crusher. Furth more this type separator was applied in Wushan mine under China National Group Corporation in China. After months of operation, the equipment has been a success. "The grade of copper ore and concentrate is recently decreasing and it will continues decrease further in the future. The effective liberation treatment for low grade copper ore and the removal of arsenic from copper concentrate is becoming even more important. In this work, the magnetic separation of copper concentrate by heat treatment and the flotation of low grade copper ore by microwave irradiation was studied. The heat treatment of copper minerals in the air atmosphere, the magnetization of most copper minerals increases and especially the magnetization of chalcopyrite shows the largest magnetization, after being heated at 500 oC. The wet HGMS of copper concentrate has been studied and the results have then been compared with the ones when calcined concentrate was used instead. The microwave treatment before ball milling increased the degree of liberation up to 100%, especially when compared with the case when only ball mill was applied to the as-received ore. The flotation of ground copper ore after microwave irradiation showed that the grade copper minerals such as chalcosite and bornite in froth part is much larger than that of tailing part.INTRODUCTION The copper has been used many kind of technological fields and will be more important for the future technology. The global copper production from mine is predicted as shown in Figure 1 (Northey, S. 2014). The copper production peak will be appeared in 2030 and the demand peaks in 2040. In the future the recycling of stocked copper and copper alloy will be necessary to satisfy the demand (Yoshimura, A. 2018). Changes in the grade of copper in copper concentrate, exported from several countries are shown in Figure 2. The copper grade in copper concentrate after mineral processing is gradually decreases every year and it is less than 30% nowadays. On the other hand, the copper ore grade change and prediction are shown in Figure 3. The grade of copper ore is also decreasing to less than 1% in 2010 (Northey, S. 2014). In the future the copper grade gradually decreases, reaching to less than 0.5% in 2080 and the energy to produce the copper metal will increase. The effective liberation treatment for low grade copper ore and the removal of arsenic from copper minerals become more important, nowadays. The microwave irradiation of copper ore for the liberation, energy etc. has been reported by several researchers (for example, Batchelor, A.R. 2017). The magnetization change of copper ore by heating has been reported to remove the arsenic (Sawada, M 2015). In this report, the magnetic separation of copper concentrate by heat treatment and the flotation of copper concentrate by microwave irradiation are discussed after the characteristics of secondary copper minerals are investigated by these treatments."

Since dewatering is a costly process, removal of moisture from relatively fine size lignites is an important industrial problem. As the lignite gets finer, the presence of micropores and relatively low hydrophobic nature of lignite lead to trapping of large quantities of water in the coal matrix. Lignites used in power stations need to be dried to a certain degree of humidity before it is transferred to the combustion chamber. It is generally wise to dewater coal as much as possible by physical means before it is dried. However, dewatering cost in some cases may be prohibitive. Thus, sometimes removal of even little percent moisture may be of great help in such operations. Surfactants have been used to increase the efficiency of coal dewatering. It is crucial to select appropriate type and amount of surfactants in order to get higher efficiency. Since the hydrophobic characteristic of coals increases with increasing the coal rank, dewatering of bituminous and anthracite can be accomplished using low HLB surfactants (Oily), however, these surfactants are not efficient in the case of low rank coals like lignites and brown coals. It is suggested that adsorption of low HLB surfactants on high rank coals is governed by Acid-Base interactions rather than electrostatic and van der Waals forces. Since this characteristic in lignites is not strong enough, low HLB surfactants could not be effectively adsorbed on low rank coals to make surface more hydrophobic. In this paper, a special set-up has been designed to study the effect of high HLB surfactants on dewatering of fine lignite particles. It is shown that high HLB surfactants function more efficiently on low rank coals than low HLB ones.

"The major ilmenite reserves are located in India at Chavara (CH), Manavalakurichi ( MK) and Chatrapur, Orissa (OR). India stands first in terms of ilmenite reserves, which are estimated to be 278 million tonnes out of which, 142 million tonnes are processable. Mineralo-chemical analysis shows that Chavara ilmenite is the most weathered one with about 60% TiO2 while Chatrapur is the least weathered with about 50% TiO2. Co-existence of ilmenite with pseudorutile, rutile and haematite is observed in substantially varying amounts in the three deposits. It is observed that the tropical weathering rather than the source rock difference has apparently played an important role in imparting major compositional and structural dissimilarities among ilmenites in different places.In processing of ilmenite through the Becher process, aeration rusting of pre-reduced ilmenite is found to be the rate limiting step thus, affecting the productivity of the process. Investigations have proved that the addition of some organic compounds such as glyoxal, sucrose etc., to the system accelerates the reaction to such an extent that the rusting time has been reduced to less than half.A new route of processing ilmenite for synthetic rutile has also been developed in which, ilmenite is carbothermally reduced and then processed through plasma route. The slag thus obtained is processed further to get high-grade synthetic rutile, metallic iron and high purity iron oxide. The process has been scaled up in a continuous moving bed plasma reactor. It is technologically and economically more viable where, all the iron values are recovered as salable byproducts. This paper describes the salient features of the technologies developed for the beneficiation of ilmenite to synthetic rutile."

Agglomeration of fine mineral particles is an important step in heap leaching processes employed for a cost-effective hydrometallurgical extraction of value metals from low-grade ores. In this study, the effect of acidic binder composition and feed ore particle size on binder dosage requirement and isothermal, batch agglomeration behavior of siliceous goethite nickel laterite has been investigated. Agglomeration tests performed with tap water and 30, 44 and 98% w/w H2SO4 solutions as binders revealed the key role of binder formulation in controlling ore particle wettability, nucleation and granule growth behavior. Both lower binder acid content and higher dosage led to greater wetting, nucleation and granule growth rates. Variation of feed ore fine/coarse particles? mass ratio dramatically impacted on binder dosage requirement for effective particle wetting, nucleation, and growth agglomeration behavior. Increasing fine (-150 µm) fraction mass content in a -2 mm feed ore, led to higher binder dosage requirement and enhanced nucleation, however the overall agglomeration rate/granule size growth decreased. In contrast, the presence of coarse (5 ? 15 mm) particles in feed ore led to (i) lower binder dosage requirement, (ii) enhanced initial agglomerate size growth rate, and (iii) reduced coalescence. For dry agglomerates of similar sizes, competent coarser feed particles led to remarkably higher compressive strength than did finer feed particles. Microstructure analyses indicated that the granules containing coarser particles exhibited a distinctive, competent core/shell (fines) structure which led to their structural reinforcement. The appropriation of the findings for optimizing agglomeration behavior for enhanced heap leaching of complex, low grade laterite ores are discussed in this context.

"In flotation, depressants are used to reduce the amount of gangue that reports to the concentrate and hence increase the selectivity of the flotation process. At the University of Cape Town extensive batch flotation tests are carried out to evaluate industrial depressants and standard procedures have been developed over the years.This study was conducted in order to develop an improved method for comparing depressants using machine vision as an aid. The modified method of batch flotation involved a test with prolonged intervals between scraping to allow more time for the froth to build up and mature.This method of testing showed increased differences between the flotation performance obtained as represented by grade recovery curves for carboxymethyl cellulose and guar depressants when compared to the standard method of testing with shorter scraping intervals. The improvement was attributed to reduced entrainment resulting from longer drainage time in the froth and therefore yielded a better test for comparing depressants on the basis of true gangue flotation with minimized entrainment. As expected, the sulphide recoveries were unaffected by the change in method. The machine vision system also added to the information obtained during these tests by recording bubble size trends throughout the tests which were later analyzed and related to the amount of flotable gangue in the froth. Modifications are recommended to improve the usefulness of machine vision in batch flotation."

"Due to an increasing demand for nickel and cobalt and the depletion of nickel sulphide deposits worldwide, the production of ferronickel from lateritic nickel ores becomes more significant. About 60 percent of nickel reserves are present in laterite deposits. Common production methods like acid leaching or smelting operations implicate high material and energy consumption. Physical processing methods are also not efficient, because of the fine microstructural intergrowth of the minerals carrying valuable elements such as nickel and cobalt. Due to the high energy consumption of metallurgical treatment of lateritic nickel ore (nickel grade: 0.8 - 3.0%, Co: 0.05 - 0.15%), the separation of waste material (about 75 - 85%) before the metallurgical treatment is desirable. Therefore, an alternative process has been developed, combining a pyro-metallurgical pre-treatment with selected mechanical processing methods. The developed process consisted of a selective pre-reduction and non-selective segregation of the contained metal phases in the first stage. By this, the properties of the metal carrying minerals were changed and could become subject to concentration by means of fine beneficiation processes afterwards. The parameters of the pre-reduction and segregation were varied and the pre-treated samples were examined concerning their efficiency of metalization grade and metal grain size. This paper describes the investigation of pre-treatment methods of a lateritic nickel ore. The pre-treatment and possible subsequent separation methods were examined with regard to the recovery of the valuable elements. Metalization grade was around 80% for both Ni and Co with metal phase grain sizes below 20 µm. Scanning electron microscopy revealed distribution of new metal phases not only on the reducing agent, but also on the “slag” material.INTRODUCTION Nickel laterites are characterized as strongly weathered regoliths with several zones containing reserves of nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). These laterites are formed on serpentinites and ultramafic rocks under climatic and/or tectonic conditions that have changed over time (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The formation of Ni laterites is influenced by numerous geological and environmental factors. In general, there are three ore types named according to the dominant Ni hosting minerals: oxides, hydrous magnesia (Mg) silicates and clay silicates (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The most Ni laterite deposits contain two of these ore types, usually an oxide zone and an either clay or Mg silicate zone. Distribution of these principal deposit types, their average Ni-bearing phases and mean Ni grade are shown in Table 1. A schematic profile of the different deposits based on the development on serpentized ultramafic rocks is given in Figure 1 (Butt & Cluzel, 2013)."

The froth flotation process for separation of mineral ores depends on the establishment of care-fully controlled froth. The formation of very stable froth in the flotation circuit is a problem that may occur in many plants, resulting in down-time, low quality and grade of final product and considerable expenses. Froths build up on the top surfaces of thickeners, tanks and flotation cells until they overflow, or until the efficiency of the circuit is impaired. A similar problem exists in Assarel concentrator, Assarel-Medet PLC, Bulgaria. Copper and copper-pyrite ores are dressed in Assarel concentrator. They are characterized with variable and complex mineral and physical composition. During the flotation cycle, resilient and difficult to break-down froth is formed, which subsequently impedes the process of thickening and clear overflow obtaining. Due to this problem continuous sampling in the cycle of thickening was conducted. The mineralogical, chemical composition, particle size distribution and solid phase content of the products were determined. It was established that the solid phase of the froth build up on the top surface of the thickener differs considerably from this one of the thickener underflow. The data clearly indicates that a separation process takes place on the top surface of the thickener ? fine particles of chalcopyrite are concentrated in the froth. The role of chemical reagent addition in the break-down of the flotation froth is investigated in terms of surface chemical phenomena involved in the stabilized froths. Measurements of the coper minerals wettability and surface tension at the air/liquid interface were performed. The surface active agent AERODRI® dewatering aids were laboratory tested. Bench-scale froth collapse tests were conducted. Reagent addition into pulp-froth system promotes and leads to a bubble coalescence, an improvement of the wetting of the mineral particles and a decrease of the surface tension at the air/liquid interface. The results of the laboratory experiments showed that the presence of the surface active agent leads to considerably decrease of the froth stability and the destruction of the deleterious froths build up on the top surface of the thickeners in Assarel concentrator.

The application of the geopolymerization of mine tailings as construction materials is hindered by the fact that conventional geopolymerization of mine tailings usually involves a large consumption of alkali, i.e., sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and a long curing time, because of the relatively low reactivity and the high Si/Al ratio of mine tailings when compared to other active resources such as fly ash and clay minerals. The present study is focused on efficiently activating mine tailings, reducing alkali consumption, decreasing curing time and improving compressive strength. We firstly investigate the temperature effect on the alkali activation of mine tailings during geopolymerization. Secondly, the impact of additives, i.e., calcium hydroxide and aluminium oxide, on the compressive strength of samples is studied. Thirdly, different forming pressures have been applied to remove excessive alkali and its impact on samples' strength has been investigated. The results show that a 40 MPa unconfined compressive strength (UCS) can be achieved with the geopolymerization samples after mine tailings are activated by sodium hydroxide at 170°C for 1 hour with the addition of calcium hydroxide and alkali dissolved aluminium oxide, further compressed with a 10 MPa forming pressure and finally cured at 90°C for 3 days. The findings of the present work provide a novel method for the geopolymerization of mine tailings as construction materials.

A good deposit of high sulphur coals of tertiary origin is existent in North eastern region of India. These coals are known to have indifferent characteristics in comparison to other Indian coals. The general Physico-chemical characteristics are low ash and high volatile matter, calorific value and sulphur content. Sulphur in these coals (70-95% of organic) is mostly affixed to the structure of the coal. Owing to the stringent environmental regulations, the utilization of these coals has severe limitations due to high sulphur content. In the present investigation, sulphur incorporation in to these coals has been discussed along with possible organic sulphur functionalities. The various desulphurization techniques carried out for removing sulphur from these coals have been discussed. Two step oxidative desulphurization processes has been found to be most efficient for organic sulphur removal along with mineral matter and potential toxic elements. "INTRIDUCTION At present, more and more metallized raw materials with a metallization degree of not less than 80% are used in the smelting of steel. The main quantity of this raw material is produced in furnaces of mine type. Advantages of this type of raw materials for metallurgical processing are low levels of harmful and slag-forming impurities and a high content of metallic iron. At the same time, the cost of smelting raw materials and obtaining high-quality steels are reduced. In addition to the undoubted merits of metallized raw materials, there are high requirements for the quality of iron concentrates, which are the starting material for metallization: the mass fraction of acidic oxides should not exceed 3%; The mass fraction of iron should not be less than 69%, mass fractions of harmful impurities (phosphorus, arsenic, sulfur, copper, etc.) should not exceed 0.02%. These requirements are dictated by the fact that the recovery of burned pellets is carried out by gas in a solid phase. In this case, the empty rock and harmful impurities from the metal are not separated and sent to the steelmaking unit, increasing the heat consumption for heating and worsening the quality of the steel. The combined production of high-quality concentrate and metallized raw materials requires a large capital outlay from the enterprise, which in the future can be compensated for by increased profit from the sale of more expensive marketable products. At present, in the territory of Russia and the CIS countries Lebedinsky mining-and-processing integrated works is the only enterprise that carries out the entire chain of operations for the production of metallized raw materials, starting with the production of high-quality magnetite concentrate with a mass fraction of iron of 69.5% and ending with the production of a metallized product in the form of hot briquetted gland. JSC «SSGPO» is the largest iron-processing enterprise in Kazakhstan, which processes about 40 million tons of ore per year and receives 16 million tons of concentrate per year with a mass fraction of iron 66.0-66.5%. The technological scheme existing at the concentrator of JSC ""SSGPO"" includes the crushing of the feed ore to the size of 20-0 mm; dry magnetic separation operation; three reduction stages to a fineness of 90-95% kl-0.071 mm; operation of desliming, wet magnetic separation and filtration of the concentrate. Dry magnetic separation of the feed ore makes it possible to remove from the process of 19.6% of the tailings with a mass fraction of the total iron 12.5%, of magnetite 2.2%. The first reduction stage is carried out in rod mills with the volume of 40 m3 to a size of -1.6 + 0.0 mm. The first stage of wet magnetic separation is carried out in counterflow magnetic separators PBM-P-150/200L. The magnetic product of the first stage of WMS is classified in hydrocyclones; sands enter the second reduction stage into central discharge ball mill 3600 × 5000. Runoff of mills enter on the second enrichment stage in counterflow magnetic separators PBM-P-150/200L. The magnetic product enters the classification of the second stage, forming a closed cycle. Mass fraction of the class -0.071 + 0 mm in classifications runoff of the second stage is 70-75%. The second stage classifications runoff is transported toWMS-III operation in semi-counter separators PBM-PP-120/300. The magnetic product of the third stage enters the classification of the third stage. Granular residue are transported to the reduction of the third stage into central discharge ball mill 3600 × 5000. The mill runoff enters the third stage of classification, forming a closed cycle. Classifications runoff of the third stage enters on deslimation. Deslimed product is sent for fine screening to the crasher «Derrick» 2SG48-60W-5STK with a cell size of 0.1 mm. Top size of crasher is sent to regrinding. Undersize with a mass fraction of the class -0.071 + 0 mm 90-95% is fed to the wet magnetic separation of WMS-"

The generation of froth with a critical degree of stability and height is an important aspect of the froth flotation. In this paper we have studied the synergism and anti-synergism in frothing behaviour in a mixed flotation collector/frother mixture (a model fatty acid; sodium oleate and a model frother; nonionic (polyethyleneoxide alkyl C14E6). Values of the collector / frother molecular interaction parameters (the ß-parameters) were determined from the surface tension data using regular solution theory. The frothing characteristics of the system were evaluated using a glass column equipped with a series of conductivity electrodes, which enabled the water content of the froth to be determined. From these measurements, the dynamic frothability and static froth stability were determined. It was concluded that the synergism/anti-synergism in frothability was depended on the molecular composition of the surfactant system, the diffusion of monomer to the thin film interface and on the breakdown of the mixed nonionic/anionic micelles.

"Recycling of WEEE has already gain prime importance from both environmental and economic point of view. For the recovery of metals from e-waste, many conventional physical, bio/hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes are proposed. Economic potential of e-waste is mainly driven by its precious metal content. Physical separation methods (e.g. electrostatic, magnetic, eddy current and gravity separation) exploit the differences in the physical properties of metals and non-metals. Physical separation methods are simple and economically sound but they suffer from metal losses and ineffectiveness at fine sizes. Hydrometallurgical processes are promising owing to their relatively low cost, reduced environmental impact, potential for high metal recoveries and suitability for small scale applications. Hydrometallurgical processes can be developed for selective extraction of base/precious metals using suitable reagent systems. Sulphate-based leaching with a suitable oxidant (e.g. H2O2, O2, Fe3+) is effective for copper and other base metals. After removal/recovery of base metals, precious metals can be easily extracted using various lixiviants including thiosulphate, thiourea, cyanide and chloride. However, further research is required to develop new, cost effective and environmentally friendly processes and/or refine existing ones for leaching and, in particular, downstream processes. INTRODUCTION Electrical and electronic equipments are indispensable to modern societies with numerous applications in the field of medicine, transport, communication, education, security and environmental protection. With technological developments and innovations, the replacement of old equipment leads to ever fast accumulation of waste materials such as waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE or e-waste). People are upgrading their mobile phones, computers, televisions, audio equipment and printers more frequently than ever before (Babu et al., 2007; Lee et al., 2007). With the rapid growth in technology today, the life span and utilisation period of most electronic and electrical equipment has been reduced considerably with concomitant generation of huge amounts of WEEE over the past several decades. According to statistics presented by Balde et al. (2015), total WEEE produced around the world was 41.8 million tonnes in 2014 and expected to rise to approximately 50 million tonnes by 2018. Kumar et al. (2017) estimated that annual growth rate for the WEEE stream is 3–5% (Singh et al., 2016). The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of physical separation and hydrometallurgical methods available for the treatment of WEEE."

An ingenious methodology purposively developed by the authors for comprehensive assessment of flotation properties, electrophysical characteristics and. crystal chemistry features of natural gold-bearing sulfide minerals of different origin has been used in this study. Examination of the elemental composition of the minerals, ion-molecular components of the liquid phase in suspensions, surface properties of sulfides and different flotation reagents sorption forms was performed using the methods of X-ray phase and spectral analysis, potentiometry, UV and IR spectrometry, computer image analysis, and computer simulation techniques. The role of isomorphous impurities in the formation of hydrophobic sulfhydric collector layers on mineral surfaces in complex ore processing has been elucidated. The parameters characterizing the variability of the Fe:S ratio in pyrite of different origin have been determined based on non-stoichiometry characteristics of natural gold-bearing sulfide crystals. An ingenious method of formatting and linear approximation of experimental data was used to find out the quantitative relationships between the impurity content, electrophysical characteristics, non-stoichiometry and floatability of pyrite from a number of different deposits. The effect of the impurity species present in sulfides on the characteristic pH value marking the floatability peaks as such and their trend of shift towards higher alkalinity has been revealed. A theoretical substantiation has been given to prognostic assessment criteria for processing characteristics of gold-bearing sulfide minerals with varying composition. New flotation reagents and advanced reagent systems which help to increase the contrast of processing characteristics for different gold-bearing sulfides, resulting in improved selectivity, have been developed. The mechanism of selective flotation of precious metal-bearing Fe and As sulfides achieved by using short-chain dithiocarbamates and a mixture of cyclic trithiocarbonate with oxyalkylsulfides has been analyzed.

Flotation is an operation widely used in mineral processing because of its aptitude to recover minerals of interest very efficiently. Flotation is often responsible for making possible the exploitation of mineral deposits of low concentration. In flotation various processes phenomena occur, some of which have still not been explained scientifically. Due to this fact, there are no models that can be widely applied in flotation control. Thus, in most cases, the control is done by experienced operators who are able to visually classify the types of foam into different categories and each one of them is associated with an operating actuation. In this situation, image analysis is configured as a solution that has already been employed in several ways. In this paper, a control strategy based on the colour of froth on a direct flotation of a nonferrous metal is presented. Moreover, the paper reveals the theoretical basis of the method, the critical points, difficulties and improvements that can be implemented. Data of grade were collected from the mineral of interest and RGB (red, green and blue) data of final concentrate of the froth. The mineral grade was collected and analysed during one month of operation and RGB was obtained using a camera. It was verified that the red colour showed the same trend of the grade curve in the concentrate. Thus, the use of this online data in optimising control was introduced. The laboratory grade is used to calibrate the colour set point. Therefore, it was possible to monitor in real time the trend of enrichment and depletion of a non-ferrous mineral in a flotation. It was possible to establish an online control strategy based on simple data acquisition. The result was an increase of 10% on production.

"The use of thiosulfate as an alternative lixiviant for cyanide to treat complex refractory ores followed by the use of ion exchange resins (IX resins) for gold recovery has become an industrial reality. In this study, polyethylenimine (PEI) coated iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were used to recover gold from the leaching solutions that consist of calcium thiosulfate, copper and gold. The gold loaded MNPs were easily separated from the solution using an external magnetic field. Proposing a novel adsorbent with characteristically easy solid-liquid separation, to recover gold from synthetic thiosulfate leaching solutions and gold elution and reuse of MNPs were the main objectives of this study. Adsorption isotherm studies revealed that the data fitted both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models equally well. The maximum adsorption capacity was 18.5 mg/g at pH 8 and 50?C. According to thermodynamic studies the physisorption process was exothermic and spontaneous. Gold and copper elution, and the regeneration and reuse of the nanoparticles were investigated and promising results were obtained. Different elution systems comprising sulfites, chlorides, glycine, EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and sodium hydroxide were considered. Among them, EDTA for copper elution and NaOH for gold elution were the most efficient eluants. Regeneration and reuse studies revealed that the MNPs can be used for several cycles without significant performance loss. INTRODUCTION Although cyanidation has been used for gold leaching for more than 100 years, some major drawbacks associated with cyanidation have led to a quest for alternative lixiviants for gold leaching. Cyanide is ineffective in treating carbonaceous refractory ores as gold cyanide complex is adsorbed onto the native carbon in the ore itself known as preg-robbing. On the other hand environmental concerns associated with cyanidation drives the need for environmental friendly alternatives for cyanide. As of today, thiosulfate is known to be the most extensively studied and most promising alternative lixiviant for cyanide in both technical and environmental perspectives (Aylmore and Muir 2001, Oraby 2009)."

The studies carried out by the Russian researchers and those carried out jointly within some contracts with scientific organizations and companies of other countries, show that the electric pulse disintegration of materials (ED), proposed and investigated in detail in Russia (Kalyatsky, et al, 1980; Usov et al, 1987; Semkin et al, 1995; Usov and Tsukerman, 2000; Kurets et al, 2002) has been widely recognized and developed abroad (Andres, 1995; Inoue et al, 2000; Biela et al, 2008). The Russian and international journals and the proceedings of the conferences dealing with the electric pulse disintegration pay great attention to the principal principals of selective disintegration of materials. There is no, however, any information concerning both the technical means developed to implement the technique and the assessment of their performance, which would be necessary in objective assessment of the industrial use of the technology. The results of long-term studies of the technique and technologies of electric pulse disaggregation by research institutes such as Research Institute of High Voltages (Tomsk), Kola Science Centre of RAS (Apatity), Institute "Mekhanobr"(S.Pertersburg) described. Exploratory stands and technological installations are developed to carry out pilot tests and operations under production conditions. Basic circuits and classification of technical means electric pulse disintegration of the materials are proposed, the analysis of transportation schemes and classification of the material in the disintegration apparatus are given, construction of chambers for continuous stadial disintegration of ores and materials are presented. The features and technological efficiency of electric pulse disintegration of various types of ores, and the spheres of effective use of the method have been determined. Alkyl hydroxamic acid was shown to be a suitable collector for the flotation of pyrochlore from carbonatite niobium oxide ores. In the direct batch rougher flotation from the ore without desliming, over 85% of the pyrochlore can be recovered at about 30% mass pull. Cleaner flotation tests showed that the rougher concentrate can be upgraded. The adsorption mechanisms of octyl hydroxamic acid (OHA) were studied by using high purity pyrochlore and calcite mineral samples and employing analytical measurements such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and UV/VIS spectroscopy. FTIR showed a shift of the vibrational frequencies of the carbonyl group in hydroxamic acid after adsorption on pyrochlore and calcite, and the shift was more pronounced on pyrochlore. XPS results indicated a lowering of the binding energies (chemical shift) of Nb3d5/2 and Ca2p3/2 electrons on pyrochlore, and the lowering of the binding energies of Ca2p3/2 electrons on calcite, again with the shift being more pronounced on pyrochlore. The results indicated hydroxamic acid formed stronger complexes with pyrochlore than with calcite. Adsorption isotherms indicated that OHA adsorbed more on pyrochlore than on calcite at low concentration. At high concentrations, the adsorption densities on both minerals were similar. All results explained the observed selectivity of the reagents in the flotation of the carbonatite niobium oxide ores.

The interest in investigating the processing characteristics of mineral deposits in Norway has seen an upsurge in the last decade. One of the major areas of interest is a huge copper deposit, operated by NUSSIR ASA located in the Repparfjord Tectonic Window in the caledonides of west Finnmark. This study reports analysis of ore from the deposit for development and modifications in the flotation flowsheet for the NUSSIR ASA copper ore. The mineralogical characterization for the ore sample was achived by optical microscopy and Zeiss automated mineralogy while grinding characteristics were tested using Bond Index tests. The results confirmed the presence of Cu minerals in the form of chalcocite, chalcopyrite and bornite in the samples, which are mainly liberated in the – 105 µm size range. The majority of non-liberated copper sulphides associated with silica and the carbonates varies from 3 to 28 percent in the –250 µm samples . It is also observed that the copper minerals are uniformly distributed in all size ranges. Selective flotation of NUSSIR copper ore was performed in different size fractions with a motive to identify the correct liberation size and thus to obtain a copper concentrate meeting the quality requirements. The flotation experiments are essentially performed in two stages: the rougher and the cleaner stage. Mass balance calculations were performed showing that approximately 88 percent of copper can be obtained at the end of the process. Ultimately, overall circuit copper recoveries ranged between 83.5 to 88.1 % with a concentrate grade of 35 to 48 % Cu.
