Aços multiconstituídos têm aplicações voltadas principalmente para o setor automobilístico. Isso porque esses apresentam uma boa combinação de elevada resistência, ductilidade e tenacidade. A elevada resistência desses aços é devida a martensita e aos finos feixes de ferrita bainítica, enquanto que a tenacidade e a ductilidade são atribuídas aos filmes finos de austenita retida presentes entre os feixes. Esses filmes contém uma maior concentração de carbono em relação aos blocos de austenita retida. Uma consequência é que estes se tornam mais estáveis mecanicamente e termicamente. Dessa forma, foi realizada a avaliação do desempenho mecânico de um aço tratado isotermicamente abaixo de Mi e revenidos a 400°C/1 h. Os resultados dos ensaios de impacto mostraram que quanto maior a fração volumétrica da austenita retida maior é a energia absorvida, independente da morfologia desse constituinte.

Sistemas de moagem são projetados baseando-se, entre outros parâmetros, no consumo de energia das rotas existentes. Consideram-se custos com energia um desafio para a indústria mineral, pois a maioria da energia disponível ao processo é inevitavelmente absorvida pelos equipamentos e somente uma menor porção é destinada à fragmentação desejada. Hoje, a maioria das teorias utilizadas na avaliação do desempenho energético parte dos estudos de pesquisadores como Fred Chester Bond. De acordo com Bond, Work Index (WI) é um parâmetro representativo da resistência à moagem do minério, servindo para medir o consumo de energia na fragmentação e para comparar o comportamento de diferentes minérios. Estudos recentes comprovam que o WI de materiais em mistura pode ser medido, geralmente, com alto desvio devido às diferenças existentes de moabilidade de cada tipologia. Este trabalho consistiu na determinação do WI de minério de zinco silicatado com elevações nos teores de esfalerita (ZnS) e galena (PbS), devido à avanços na lavra, minério composto unicamente por willemita e suas misturas. Valores encontrados mostraram que a presença significativa de minerais de classes distintas daquele predominante na frente de lavra pode influenciar na determinação de parâmetros importantes para o processamento mineral. Graphitic HSS roll grades such as ESW’s brand VANIMO can be considered as the latest developments for the last finishing stands in hot strip mills. These roll grades are developed on the basis of the alloying concept of (Carbide Enhanced) Indefinite Chill work roll materials. During the development of VANIMO, the amounts and types of carbide forming elements were increased and adjusted into the direction of cast HSS roll grades. The microstructure of graphitic HSS roll grades therefore consists of tempered martensite, cementite and several different carbide types as well as a well-defined amount of free graphite. The main purpose of graphitic HSS roll grades is to combine the high surface quality of Indefinite Chill alloys as well as the high wear resistance of HSS roll grades. Several systematic steps were taken to increase the wear performance from Carbide-Enhanced Indefinite Chill grades to the more advanced VANIC grade and further on to the highest alloyed roll grade VANIMO. In every development step, the surface quality of the roll grades was carefully monitored. The decision to invest in new testing equipment at ESW’s plant was driven by the wish to see microstructural effects of different alloys in a macroscopic dimension. Usually samples are taken from cast rolls and investigation is done in comparably small areas compared to the total surface of a roll. Rolling of strip is done with the entire barrel, so effects of alloy and microstructure can appear anywhere on the barrel surface. To ensure better understanding and deeper knowledge about influences of alloying trials we decided to install the last version of LRI (Lismar Roll Inspection). LRI includes the latest technology of Eddy Current with an enormous resolution. Depending on the formation of carbide precipitations, carbide network as well as matrix and free graphite, the EC test can detect smallest differences. The possibility to analyze the different results of EC and UT surface wave inspection will be discussed. A few examples of surface effects in the mill application will be discussed and improvement strategies explained.

The need for more effective and flexible roll-gap lubrication technologies in hot and cold rolling mills is steadily increasing due to ever-greater requirements placed on the rolling process and the final products. In particular, the rolling of high-strength steels poses enormous demands for both the rolling mill and the coolant/lubricant to be used. The presented paper focuses on two innovative technologies for highly efficient roll-gap lubrication for hot and cold rolling, which were developed utilizing extensive knowledge and expertise about the tribological interactions in the roll-gap. The advanced work-roll lubrication package (A-WRL) for hot rolling and ESP mills is using specially designed mixer-nozzle units to mix the water/oil emulsion very close to the nozzles to minimize the risk for contamination and clogging. The nozzles are quickly exchangeable and are optimized to ensure uniform lubricant distribution, high plateout efficiency and minimum oil consumption. This eco-friendly solution does not require any chemical additives or cleaning agents and significantly reduces electrical energy consumption and work-roll wear. The roll cooling system on mill entry and exit side remains switched-on, which is of vital importance especially for highperformance hot strip mills. Minimum Quantity Lubrication MQL® represents a new generation of roll-gap lubrication technologies for cold rolling, which applies minimum amounts of pure rolling oil finely atomized with pressurized air directly onto the work roll surface. This allows controlling the oil film thickness depending on actual process and product parameters, providing increased lubrication flexibility, significant improvement of strip surface cleanliness through reduction of strip wear. MQL® was successfully installed and tested on two industrial tandem cold rolling mills in Europe. Advanced WRL and MQL® represent Primetals’ latest technologies that feature a robust and reliable system comprising standardized interfaces and flexible communication options. Both packages can easily be integrated into existing or new hot strip mills, ESP lines or cold mills.

O curso de Engenharia de Minas sofreu uma expansão, juntamente com todo o ensino superior no país, por volta de 2005. O objetivo do presente estudo é avaliar as características dos cursos do país e realizar uma comparação com cursos de outros países com grande produção mineral. Foi feito um levantamento inicial a partir de informações disponíveis nos sites do MEC, INEP e das universidades. Como complemento, realizou-se um questionário com os coordenadores dos cursos de Engenharia de Minas do Brasil. Foram compilados ainda dados relativos à estrutura curricular e carga horária dos cursos de Engenharia de Minas dos EUA, Canadá, Austrália, Chile e África do Sul. Em relação à comparação das grades curriculares com os cursos de outros países, observou-se que no Brasil o curso possui uma maior cara horária de Tratamento de Minérios em detrimento da lavra. Nos demais países estudados, o foco das disciplinas é a lavra, já que nestes países a área de Tratamento de Minérios é assunto de outras Engenharias.

In February 2016, the upgraded Blast Furnace 1 of JSW Steel Limited (JSW) at its Vijayanagar Steel Plant was blown in after a 6 months shutdown in which the whole furnace was rebuilt on the existing foundation and within the existing tower structure. Despite several plant constraints it was possible to increase the furnace inner volume by 85% - reaching 2307 m3 from existing 1250m3. The upgradation project covered the stockhouse and its dedusting system, top charging system, furnace profile, furnace cooling system, casthouse and its dedusting system, slag granulation plant, pulverized coal injection plant, hot blast system and gas cleaning plant – with major interventions in order to cope up with the changed operating conditions. The total scope of the project was split by JSW into several packages, all based on design data provided by Paul Wurth. JSW was responsible for coordinating the local subcontractors along with Paul Wurth which has been appointed as main technology supplier in charge of complete basic and selected detail engineering in the key areas and of the supply of core equipment such as the Bell-less Top®, copper staves, GCP key items and TMT casthouse machines. The main design concept and the key points of the project such as optimization of project ROI, advanced erection concepts as well as a summary of the operating results are presented confirming JSW “BF1” upgradation as one latest examples of the current state of the art in the revamping projects.

The present paper describes state-of-the-art Pulverized Coal Injection technology with focus to Dynamic Distribution guaranteeing highest accuracy on equal distribution and being thus one of the key factors enabling constantly highest injection rates. As an alternative to the construction of a new plant, existing plants may be modernized and upgraded to latest technology. Two recent examples are presented. As a conclusion, two case studies of return on investment are showing that the PCI technology, both for new facilities as well as for upgrades, is very profitable and mandatory for high blast furnace operation effectiveness.

The most recent modernization phase of the wire rod mill at Sterling Steel involved installation of a pre-finishing mill, using a Morgan Vee Mini-Block, a new water box and shear with utility systems and automation. The new mill configuration adds more stands to the mill for better drafting and is designed to improve finished product quality by providing a more uniform entry temperature, better control of the feed section into the No-Twist® mill as well as enhanced surface quality. The new shear improves cut length accuracy as well as decreases the amount of trimming to reduce yield loss. This paper explains the changes made in the mill and the features of the new equipment and automation.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo a síntese de materiais híbridos nanoestruturados à partir da funcionalização do argilomineral haloisita com (3-aminopropil)trietoxissilano (APTES) para aplicação em processos de adsorção. A rota de modificação baseou-se na acidificação e posterior reação química entre as hidroxilas superficiais da haloisita e os grupos hidrolisáveis de APTES na presença de tolueno sob refluxo. Haloisita em sua forma natural e modificada foi caracterizada por análise termogravimétrica (TG), área superficial específica (BET), espectroscopia de infravermelho (FTIR) e difração de raios X (DRX). A quantidade de APTES enxertado, calculado através da análise termogravimétrica foi de 7,32% para a amostra funcionalizada previamente acidificada e 6,50% para a amostra funcionalizada sem pré tratamento ácido. A área superficial das amostras diminuiu com a funcionalização. As amostras funcionalizadas exibiram novas bandas características de grupos de APTES no espectro obtido por FTIR confirmando a ocorrência da funcionalização do organosilano na haloisita. A análise de DRX indicou que a estrutura original não foi alterada após a funcionalização.

Neste trabalho, foram obtidos compósitos poliméricos de Óxido de Grafite (GO) incorporado em Poli(metaclilato de metila) (PMMA). A obtenção do Óxido de Grafite foi realizada pelo método de Hummers modificado. Em seguida foi ainda adicionada uma etapa secundária de tratamento térmico à 1000ºC no GO obtido a fim de expandir as lamelas de grafite e remover os grupos funcionais aderidos durante o ataque ácido do grafite. As cargas obtidas foram caracterizadas com o auxílio das técnicas de Difração de Raios-X (DRX), constatando a expansão das folhas após o tratamento térmico. O estudo comparativo dos compósitos de matriz polimérica com 3 % de concentração de GO antes e após o tratamento térmico foi realizado com o objetivo de entender a contribuição nas propriedades reológicas do polímero com a adição da carga de GO. Os resultados reológicos apresentaram um aumento da viscosidade complexa tanto no ensaio de Varredura de Tempo, quanto no Cisalhamento Oscilatório de Pequenas Amplitudes (COPA).

Siemens MT is renowned for its ability to perform Blast Furnace rebuilds, relines and modernisations within extremely tight time frames and in a safe manner. Modular Blast Furnace construction concepts have been perfected to minimise project duration and plant downtime for furnace rebuilds. Safety and certainty are the keys for success. Siemens MT are constantly introducing new technologies into the market place including cyclone gas cleaning and triple external cone gas scrubber, along with step changes in technology such as dry gas cleaning and dry slag granulation. The economic environment and the continuing requirement for improved environmental performance, drive many of these innovations. This paper describes some of the latest rebuild reference projects of Siemens MT, along with the latest technical innovations installed on these furnaces, and some of the construction methodology used for a safe and secure rebuild.

O Alto Forno 3 da ArcelorMittal Tubarão (Volume interno: 3617 m3) esteve em operação do dia 21 de Julho de 2007 a 10 de Novembro de 2012 durante a sua primeira fase da primeira campanha. Após os devidos reparos e planejamento técnico-operacional, o procedimento de Blow in da segunda fase desta campanha foi realizado no dia 6 de Julho de 2014, apresentando também um processo bem sucedido de evolução de produção (ramp up) e resultados importantes com a redução do consumo de coque (coque rate) ao longo dos primeiros meses de operação.

The blast furnace process is the most important process to produce pig iron. The necessary process energy is mainly covered by coke. But the production of coke is connected with CO2-emissions and high costs. A significant measure to reduce the coke rate and with it the CO2-emissions plus costs is pulverized coal injection (PCI) through the tuyeres into the blast furnace. A further increase to substitute coke by coal can be achieved by using the Oxycoal+ technology. This article compares and shows the cost effectiveness and the decrease of CO2-emissions with the help of simplified energy balances for the only coke operation of the blast furnace, the operation using pulverized coal injection and the operation using the Oxycoal+ technology.

Atualmente, a maioria dos pátios utilizam recuperadoras com roda de caçambas para remover o minério das pilhas de estocagem. Tipicamente, estas máquinas são operadas manualmente, com todos os movimentos controlados por operadores, o que faz com que o processo seja totalmente dependente de sua experiência, tornando difícil manter o processo em operação ótima. Para alcançar uma melhor performance, foi implementado um sistema automático que controla todos os movimentos de recuperação. Um importante desafio encontrado durante a construção dessa solução foi a de estimar a taxa de recuperação em tempo real, uma vez que esta informação é essencial para o algoritmo que controla o movimento de giro da máquina. Uma medição real dessa taxa está disponível, mas, a balança localizada na lança fica distante da roda de caçambas. Em outras palavras, a medição real está disponível com um grande atraso (aproximadamente 13 segundos). Este delay é inaceitável para o algoritmo de controle que necessita de uma medida em tempo real da taxa de recuperação na roda de caçambas. Diante disso, foi necessário implementar um sensor virtual. Este sensor foi implementado usando um sistema neuro-fuzzy para estimar a taxa de recuperação em tempo real utilizando outras variáveis disponíveis, tais como a pressão na roda de caçambas e medidas de penetração obtidas por radares. As estimativas obtidas ficaram muito próximas dos valores reais, e este sensor pôde então ser utilizado pelo algoritmo de controle.

Recently steel manufacturers have significantly focused their attention on safety and working conditions thanks to new labour laws, comprehensive operators’ knowledge and increased company social responsibility. Even with a reduced budget, investments on safety are now widely approved. Mill constructors aim at developing upgraded solutions to comply with these new requirements. In some cases mill constructors can even anticipate customers’ requests and consequently put into the market innovative solutions. In this text we will analyze some advanced solutions developed by Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche Spa - the leading company in long-product rolling mills - aimed at improving working conditions on wire-rod block settings. In particular, we will focus on rolling guides installed on fast-finishing blocks and on servo-assisted device for rolling rings changing. In fact, this equipment has shown effective benefits on our test plants and has mainly cut out the tendency of the personnel to be absent due to backache. This paper will first present standard working conditions, will then introduce the newest equipment developed by Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche Spa, will analyze its operation and finally will describe in detail the benefits that can be reached with its use.

A presente contribuição técnica apresenta os resultados alcançados com a implementação da redução do consumo de óleo combustível nos queimadores frontais do gerador de vapor de número 7 da CTE1, agregando redução de custo operacional na geração de vapor e energia de 50Hz da Usina Presidente Vargas. O trabalho aborda os estudos efetuados em relação ao modo operacional na geração de vapor na Caldeira 7 através do consumo de óleo combustível, que até junho de 2012 era consumido segundo uma configuração operacional de 30 t/dia ou ainda 312,5 kg/h em cada um dos quatro queimadores da caldeira, o que agregava um custo significativo ao consumo de combustível na CTE1, já que entre os combustíveis utilizados na produção de vapor e energia, o óleo combustível se mostra com o maior custo. A implantação da redução do consumo de óleo combustível de 30 t/dia para 2 t/dia a partir de julho de 2012 teve como benefício a redução do custo de consumo de combustível e consequentemente a redução do custo total de produção de vapor e energia da CTE1
