Este trabalho apresenta o sistema de Nível 2 recentemente implementado nos Altos Fornos da TKCSA cujos principais objetivos foram: substituir o sistema antigo com problemas de instabilidade e falta de flexibilidade; auxiliar Operação e especialistas da Unidade Técnica fornecendo informações elaboradas a partir de dados obtidos nos demais sistemas (Nível 1 e Laboratório); enviar set-point ao Nível 1; enviar dados de consumo e produção ao sistema MES; etc. Com a implementação foi possível reduzir o tempo gasto pelos especialistas nas atividades de compilação de dados em planilhas, padronizar a forma de tratamento dos dados, bem como, elevar a confiabilidade das informações pela eliminação de erro de digitação. O sistema tem operado com elevada estabilidade e disponibilidade, atendendo perfeitamente o que foi proposto, de modo que a TKCSA planeja estender para demais plantas da área de Redução.

The following paper is being presented to provide an understanding of the Deep Soil-Cement Mixing (DMM) performed at Contract C09A7 at the Fort Point Channel Site (FPC), for the I-90/I-93 Interchange of the Central Artery/Tunnel Project (CA/T), Boston, MA. The paper is written as a summary of the DMM from the DMM Contractor's perspective. The summary provides technical information and practical observations that are currently considered to be state-of-the art knowledge within the soil mixing industry. The observations and information are being provided by Robert L. Jakiel, Chief Engineer of SMW Seiko, Inc., who was the DMM Project Manager and Project Engineer for the A7 Joint Venture at FPC. The DMM was started in April of 1996 and completed in December 1999. The various acronyms and terminology used to describe the soil mixing are found in a section at the end of the paper.

Research has shown that an ergonomics process that identifies risk factors, devises solutions to reduce musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), and evaluates the effectiveness of the solutions can lower worker exposure to risk factors and MSDs and improve productivity. A review of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) injury/illness database indicated that 46% of illnesses in 2004 were associated with repetitive trauma and 35% of nonfatal lost days involved material handling during 2001? 2004. Even though these statistics show that MSDs significantly contribute to occupational illnesses and injuries in the U.S. mining industry, few mining companies have implemented an ergonomics process. Despite the many unique challenges in the mining environment, three mining companies partnered with the MSD Prevention Team at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health?s Pittsburgh Research Laboratory to demonstrate that an ergonomics process could be systematically implemented and effectively integrated with existing safety and health programs. Because these three mining companies were very different in organization, culture, and size, the ergonomics processes had to be modified to meet the needs of each company. A description of how these three companies applied ergonomics and the tools and training used to implement their processes is given. Prior to discussing the case studies, general information on the elements of an ergonomics process is provided.

Industrial wastes containing 30-50 wt.% Al2O3 and 40-60 wt.% SiO2 may serve as an alternative resource for producing Al-Si alloys. Various raw materials such as used refractory materials from metallurgical furnaces, coal fly ash, andalusite residues, and so on were tested in laboratory to produce Al-Si alloys using carbon-thermal reduction process. A mixture of anthracite and petroleum coke was used as reducing agent. One of the most important operations was to prepare the briquettes made of different raw materials with varying contents of Al2O3 and SiO2. The effects of briquette property, A/S ratio (mass ratio of Al2O3 and SiO2), the amount of carbon reducing agent, on the reduction process and the resulting metals were investigated. The results are useful for development of an alternative technology for Al-Si alloy production, which has the potential application in recycling metals from industrial wastes containing Al2O3 and SiO2.

"INTRODUCTION This report on the properties of motor fuels sold through service stations in the United States is a continuation of a series of reports made in accordance with a cooperative agreement between the Coordinating Fuel Research (CFR) Com¬mittee of the Coordinating Research Council (CFC) 3/ and the Bureau of Mines of the United States Department of the Interior. The first of these reports presented data on motor gasolines sold during the winter of 1935-36. 4/ Further re¬ports were issued describing motor gasolines sold during the succeeding summers and winters to and including the summer of 1941.4/ No reports were made on motor gasolines sold during the winter of l941-42 and during the summer of 1942. However, starting with the winter of 1942-43, the semiannual reports were resumed. The present report presents analytical data for 3,011 samples, representing the products of 113 companies. Most of the samples represented in this report were obtained during July and August 1946. As in previous surveys the companies covered by the survey include both large and small suppliers. Conforming to former reports, the data cover three groups of samples - regular-price, premium-price, and third-grade gasolines.As the number of analyses submitted for samples of third-grade gasoline are not considered adequate to represent this type of motor fuel, data for the analyses have not been averaged, but the individual items are tabulated. The number of samples, items, and brands comprising each group is as follows: Regular-price, 1,585 samples, 311 items, and 99 -brands; premium-price, 1,422 samples, 280 items, and 94 brands; third-grade, 4 samples, 4 items, and 4 brands. Mine sites and construction projects have faced problems with blasting a smooth back wall. This lead to safety concerns with slope stability and rock falls from the walls. Decades ago Dr. Calvin Konya began a special type of blasting called “Precision Presplitting”. This form of presplitting used relatively light loads based on the rock type being blasted. The explosive loads were estimated for each rock type and adjusted as blasting progressed. This current research project also determined a new equation for prediction of the ground vibration from one type of presplitting and compared it to vibration from production blasting.

Salient information on reserves, production, and consumption of fuels and energy by State is summarized in this Bureau of Mines publication. Reserve and production data are shown for each of the fossil fuels (coal, crude oil, natural gas liquids, and natural gas) and for uranium. The consumption data of each of the major consuming sectors (household-commercial, industrial, transportation, electric power, and miscellaneous) are broken down by energy source (coal, petroleum, natural gas, hydropower, and nuclear). In addition, total energy consumption in the Nation in 1974 is compared with consumption in 1973 and 1975 (preliminary data).

China has made great progress in thick coal seam mining, commonly characterized by longwall top-coal caving mining and single-pass longwall mining with a large cutting height. At present, the maximum mining thickness of longwall top-coal caving reaches 20 m while that of single-pass longwall mining approaches 8.8 m. The top-coal caving–related technologies have significantly improved the mining efficiency of thick coal seams and have also made a great contribution to the centralized underground mining of coal. Thus, the number of underground coal mines is greatly reduced in China. However, due to the increase of the mining height and the changes in mining operations, the overburden movement caused by the mining of thick coal seams is more intense, and the influence scope is larger, which brings a series of new problems on ground control of longwall faces. The city of Indianapolis has more than 25,000 homes currently on septic systems. Many of these systems do not function well because of their age and surrounding soil conditions. As Indianapolis has worked to eliminate septic systems and install sanitary sewers in large unsewered areas on the north-west side, capacity of the existing Belmont North Interceptor (BNI) became a concern. The BNI system currently services an area of approximately 80 km2 (31 sq miles) located within the northwest quadrant of the city (Fig. 1). Monitoring of the existing interceptor indicated portions of the sys-tem flowing half- to two-thirds full during dry weather conditions and surcharging during some wet weather conditions. Further analysis of the BNI based on growth projections coupled with increased sewershed yield resulting from the city?s septic tank elimination program (STEP) indicated dry-weather flows could potentially triple over the next 20 years. People are migrating because of economic, social, natural and political reasons. These natural and humane factors effects the distribution of populations. The need for tunnels has grown in order to provide a comfortable life and reduce losses such as waste of time, labor, energy, efficiency and so on. It is inevitable to carry out excavations in rock tunnels (shears, platforms, lines, connections, wastewater, distribution, energy, transportation etc.), that will be built by excavating with conventional method, by controlled blasting regarding with constrains. In this study of applied explosives engineering the blasting applications are evaluated, which were carried out for research and development purposes at Yenisahra Station tunnels in Kartal Formation which was built with the aim of solving İstanbul's transportation problem within the framework of the Kadıköy-Kartal Metro Project. Twenty-four shots were made by using explosives in 60 blastholes that were drilled in the tunnel faces, which were located between and outside of two different faults. Six microphones were used to measure the air shock and eight geophones were used to measure the parameter values of the vibrations (particle velocity, frequency, displacement, acceleration, amplitude, wavelength etc.), which were placed at predetermined points of the surface, occurred during the blasting applications. Data from the geophone and microphones were recorded on six seismographs. The coordinates and the distances between the shot points and the measurement stations are determined by an electronic theodolite. The total number of seismic records, recorded in seismographs, is 118. The number of records of vibrations that crossed the faults is 42 and the number of records of vibrations that did not cross the fault is 76. The particle velocity, frequency, amplitude, acceleration, displacement and wavelength were measured in transverse, longitudinal and vertical directions. The total number of measurements is 354. By evaluating all seismic records, the effect of delay intervals, faults and scaled distances on the particle velocity, frequency, amplitude, displacement, acceleration, wavelength and air shock were investigated. When the vibrations formed during the Research & Development (R&D) blasts were examined, it was determined that the parameter values of vibrations that crossed the faults are lower than the ones that did not cross the faults. In addition, when the particle velocity values of all vibrations are examined according to the present circumstances, it is determined that the waves did not cross the fault in all delay intervals are superposed in all directions, and that the least superposing occurred in the 50 ms delay range.

A survey of pillar conditions was carried out at 21 operating limestone mines that use the room-and-pillar method. The surveyed pillars were all located in rock that was classified as ?Good? to ?Very Good? using the RMR rock mass classification system. The average pillar width was 14.5m and the width to height ratio varied between 0.53 and 3.52. Pillar conditions were rated using a visual rating system that accounts for the effect of geological structures as well as stress related fracturing. Nine cases of pillar instability were recorded. Pillar instabilities were typically limited to individual pillars or small groups of pillars within an otherwise stable layout. Local geological structures such as inclined discontinuities or weak bedding planes contributed to instability in seven of nine cases that were observed. Elevated pillar stresses contributed to instability in the two remaining cases. All the unstable pillars observed had width-to-height ratios of less than 1.5. It is concluded that pillar instability is most likely to be caused by unfavorable geological structures in pillars with width to height ratios of less than 1.5. Stress related instability such as rib spalling becomes more prevalent when the average pillar stress approaches approximately 20 MPa.

Two types of low-sulphidation epithermal mineralisation may be recognised in volcanic terranes. Chalcedonic Silica- Adularia-Illite type mineralisation is most common in rhyolitic terranes, whereas Crystalline Quartz-Illite-(Adularia- Kaolinite) type mineralisation is more typically formed in andesitic terranes. A third type of epithermal mineralisation, the high sulphidation or Vuggy Silica-Alunite- Kaolinite-Illite type, is also common in andesitic terranes. Episodic violent boiling, accompanying hydraulic fracturing and hydrothermal eruptions, characteristic of geothermal systems in rhyolitic terranes, is stressed for the formation of Chalcedonic Silica mineralisation. Such boiling of deeply circulating meteoric groundwater, with some magmatic fluid contribution, provides chalcedonic veining, episodic banding and brecciation textures, adularia stability, bladed calcite, and extreme loss of H2S from the fluid to cause major gold deposition. Crystalline Quartz mineralisation is probably caused by the mixing of shallow acidic groundwater with ascending deep geothermal fluids beneath andesitic strato- volcanoes. The cooling effect, oxidation, and increased acidity, overcomes the dilution effect, and results in quartz deposition, illite (and locally kaolinite) alteration, and precipitation of metals. Extensive formation of base-metal sulphides further enhances gold deposition. Violent boiling is restricted to local structural dilation sites, potentially producing high grade "bonanza" gold mineralisation.

El presente texto describe el proceso de mineralización y enriquecimiento secundario en la "Veta de Suecia", como una de las estructuras mineralizadas de la Mina Huampar. El estudio es producto del análisis geológico donde se busca conocer los canales de mineralización, zoneamiento, profundidad del enriquecimiento secundario y las observaciones de campo, para así proceder al desarrollo de las exploraciones en el yacimiento señalado. De acuerdo a esta premisa, los cocientes metálicos muestran el ascenso del fluído mineralizante, así como su varianza respecto al enriquecimiento secundario del oro. Asimismo, el zoneamiento orienta al geólogo a encontrar los lentes mineralizados, de manera que se optimizan sus exploraciones y desarrollos con menor riesgo.

"INTRODUCTION In view of the large tonnage of low-grade iron ore and iron-bearing material known to exist at the western limits of the Gogebic range, the Bureau of Mines undertook an investigation of the area for the purpose of evaluating the iron-bearing formations as sources of iron for possible future utilization.After 6o years of exploration an, development on the Gogebic range, the area investigated by the Bureau represents the known western limit of direct-shipping ore mined from operations on the Gogebic range.An area about 2 miles in length between the villages of Pence and Iron Bolt in Iron County, Vic., was selected for investigation, and trenches wore excavated through the overburden and fully across the iron-bearing formation to obtain 108 bulk samples for beneficiation tests. Exhaustive tests involving gravity and flotation methods, magnetic separation, and magnetizing roasts followed by magnetic separation were conducted on the samples to determine the ammability of the individual formations and the entire iron-bearing zone to beneficiation.Empirical data on the character and mineral content of the formations arc tabulated herein, as well as the results of the beneficiation tests."

The mine is on a school section owned by the State of Utah and leased by Continental Uranium, Inc. Melhorar a qualidade dos aços e dos processos tem sido uma rotina dos engenheiros metalurgistas e das siderúrgicas em um mercado que exige produtos com qualidade e preço competitivos. No processo de refino dos aços são feitos os ajustes de composição química e temperatura, além das modificações inclusionárias necessárias às características de qualidade dos produtos e as exigências para uma perfeita lingotabilidade. O processo de solidificação mais comum é o lingotamento contínuo, onde a continuidade de fluxo de aço líquido através das válvulas é assegurada através da temperatura adequada e presença de inclusões no estado líquido nas temperaturas de lingotamento. Neste trabalho foram utilizados os softwares Thermocalc e CEQCSI com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito dos elementos químicos carbono, silício e enxofre na janela de lingotabilidade de diagramas de fases alumínio vs cálcio. Os softwares se mostraram bastante apropriados e eficazes neste estudo, e os resultados indicam que os elementos estudados afetam diretamente a posição da janela de lingotabilidade dos aços carbono. A análise de amostra de tarugo de um aço 0,2%C via MEV mostrou que há grande heterogenidade de inclusões no aço acalmado ao alumínio e tratado com cálcio.

O desenvolvimento da indústria e a redução do ciclo de vida de eletroeletrônicos aumentam a geração dos chamados resíduos de equipamentos eletroeletrônicos (REEE). Dentre os REEE, as placas de circuito impresso (PCIs) apresentam um teor de metais em sua composição que as torna importante objeto de estudo visando a recuperação destes metais para fins econômicos e, por conseguinte, impede que sejam dispostos no meio ambiente. O presente trabalho tem por objetivos a caracterização de uma amostra de placa mãe de computadores obsoletos e posterior recuperação dos metais via duas rotas hidrometalúrgicas de lixiviação ácida e lixiviação ácida em meio oxidante. A primeira etapa foi realizada com ácido sulfúrico 2M por 18 horas e a 95°C; a segunda etapa, de lixiviação em meio oxidante, utilizou também o ácido sulfúrico 2M como agente lixiviante, e o peróxido de hidrogênio como agente redutor, por 6 horas e a 95°C. As duas rotas se diferenciaram entre si na proporção sólido-líquido, sendo a primeira de 1:10 e a segunda de 1:20. A rota com proporção 1:20 foi a que apresentou resultado mais positivo, com 100% de lixiviação de Ag, Al, Cu, Fe, Ni e Zn.

A deformação plástica de aços acompanha mudanças irreversíveis da microestrutura, que podem ser consideradas como o estágio inicial do processo de fratura. No entanto, detectar, monitorar e avaliar previamente, estados de dano e pequenos defeitos, de forma não destrutiva, ainda se mostra desafiador. Dubov reportou o fenômeno do surgimento espontâneo de fracos campos magnéticos em aços estruturais ferríticos em oleodutos, que são originados devido a tensões mecânicas heterogêneas ou térmicas. Esta observação não é associada com transformações de fase induzidas por deformação e parece ser uma ferramenta promissora para a caracterização prévia de danos em aços ferromagnéticos. Para proporcionar uma melhor compreensão das bases físicas deste processo, foram observadas as microestruturas magnéticas de tais materiais e as mudanças ocorridas nos domínios magnéticos dos mesmos após sofrerem deformação plástica. Para isto foi utilizado um meio de solução coloidal com partículas paramagnéticas na escala nanométrica (ferrofluido) que proporcionou, através da técnica Bitter, observar não apenas uma mudança de tamanho dos domínios magnéticos do material, mas também modificações em sua morfologia. Foram estudados neste trabalho aços ferríticos com as respectivas concentrações de carbono em sua composição: 0,12%; 0,17% e 0,45%.
