With depletion of higher grade iron ore reserves, and the need to process finer, lower grade material; there is a need to better understand the recovery efficiency of jigging process. The use of Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) was examined as a technique, to study the motion of particles inside a laboratory batch jig. PEPT is a noninvasive method that can provide three dimensional kinetic data of a particle during jigging. Particles with different densities and sizes were traced under the same jigging parameters, to obtain a data set that can be used for the development and verification of jigging models. From the results, detailed information on the stratification rate of a particle was obtained, with adequate resolution to see particle movement through an individual pulse. "Drilling solid waste is a typical industrial solid waste, and it is a major pollutant source to ecological environment. Generally, waste management dewatering systems separate solids and fine particles from the liquid phase of drilling fluid, thereby leaving a clarified aqueous solution and allow the cleaning of waste fluids. Typically, dewatering waste management systems clean drilling fluid through coagulation, flocculation and/or mechanical separation. Chemicals used in dewatering are based on the coagulation-flocculation process, which it facilitate the removal of suspended solids and colloidal particles. The factors which can promote the coagulation-flocculation are velocity gradient, contact time, and PH. The objective of this work is to optimize a formulation adequate for dewatering based on the coagulation-flocculation process used coagulant (Aluminum sulphate), anionic flocculants (Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide) and anionic polyelectrolytes (in solid form with linear chain with very high molecular weight). The results obtained show the good efficiency of the coagulant and flocculants. INTRODUCTION Rig site dewatering of drilling fluids with recycling of processed water can help an operator to comply with environmental rules by reducing volumes of waste and reducing long term liabilities. It can also reduce disposal costs and provide a cleaner drill site overall. Most of the environmental concerns during the 1980s involved hazardous materials and toxic wastes. Drilling fluids, many of which are chemically benign, have escaped many of the difficult-to-comply-with rules and regulations. During the 1990s, however, operators may be required to submit a written plan for liquid waste reduction for even nonhazardous materials. Many states and local agencies may institute total bans on oil field wastes. Drilling rigs typically produce about 1 bbl of liquid waste for every 1 ft of hole drilled. Thus, a typical drilling operation can produce a large quantity of waste [1]. To improve the dewaterability of sludge, different pretreatment processes have been widely studied and developed including thermal, chemical, magnetic, mechanical, acoustic, electric, electro-acoustic and their hybrid treatment processes [2]. Rig site dewatering (figure 1) is the process of injecting coagulants or flocculating chemicals into the mud entering a large clarifying centrifuge. Coagulation occurs when the solid and allowing it to be attracted to other solids by van der waals forces. Flocculation is the binding of individual solid particles into aggregates of multiple particles. It is physical, rather than electrical, and occurs when one segment of a flocculating polymer chain absorbs simultaneously onto more than one particle [3]."

"In Russia, 1.1 million tons of mercury-containing waste are stored. The amount of mercury in soils and heaps of industrial enterprises is estimated at 3000 tons; in dumps, concentration tailings, sludge dumps of the gold mining industry up to 6000 tons have been accumulated. Mining is one of the main sources of mercury emissions in the natural environment that poses a real threat to the natural environment. At present, the process of amalgamation is prohibited and not applied in gold extraction. The application of amalgam technology in gold mining led to the accumulation of highly toxic products in the form of gold-bearing amalgam and metallic mercury, with a mercury content of dozens and even hundreds of times greater than the maximum permissible concentration for soil (1). Therefore, mercury-containing tailings constitute an ecological hazard to the environment. According to published data, at waste storage sites of industrial enterprises, up to 50 tons of mercury enter soil annually, and up to 3.5 tons pollute the air. At the same time, mercury-containing waste due to the reduction of the country's mineral resources is an additional source of mercury. Therefore, it is necessary to recycle mercury-containing waste. INTRODUCTION Paperobjective: demercurization of technogenic raw materials (amalgamation tails, discharge outlets of tailing dumps) to be recycled. Under natural conditions, the mercury usually migrates in the form of three most common compounds: elementary mercury (Hg); mercuric mercury ion (Hg+2); methylmercuryion (Hg (CH3) +. Chemical compounds Hg (II) are found in natural conditions much more often than Hg (I).The authors propose to conduct demercurization of technogenic raw materials (mercurial tailings) in two stages. At the first stage, the mercury in the form of small balls, the finest particles (drip mercury) can be extracted by applying the gravitational method. We propose a method for centrifugal processing of crushed waste in the apparatus of Itomak company, Novosibirsk, as the basis of the technological process for mercury recycling. The extraction of metallic mercury out of mercury-containing waste into commercial products, according to the technological characteristics of the Itomak apparatus, reaches 86.0% (2, 3). At the second stage, the extraction of mercury out of technogenic raw materials is performed applying a sorption method and using carbon sorbents based on fossil coals. Hard coal of the Kuznetsk Basin has been already used for industrial production of active carbons (carbon sorbents) of the KAD-iodine type, which is one of the prerequisites that determine the choice to use it for the aims of this study."

A mutant of Phanerochaete chrysosporium, which is capable of degrading lignin, was bred by ul-traviolet ray irradiation and this mutant strain shows high capability of degrading of lignite. The degradation ratio of original Yima lignite and nitric acid treated Yima lignite by this mutant are 37.6% and 51.62%respectively, whereas those by the original strain are 31.84% and 32.55% respectively. XRD and FTIR analyses of the lignite converted product show that its polymerization degree and average molecular weight are both greatly reduced. The content of the functional groups is also been altered.

For its surface features, micro-sized hematite is usually difficult to recover by magnetic separation; especially, the existing high gradient magnetic separator in industry can not utilize collecting matrix with thin silky rods for its property of being easily blocked; the lower size limit for recovery of micro-sized weak magnetic minerals is about 0.019mm, some even is 0.037mm. This paper introduces the application of the combined new technique of water-air joint discharging of concentrate and collecting matrix with different diameter silky rods in the field of recovery of micro-sized hematite by high gradient magnetic separator. The commercial test result for recovery of a certain hematite with size about ?0.037mm shows that the recovery can be promoted by 16.81% with basically same concentrate grade.

During the flowsheet development for a potential commercial Cu/Ni separation plant at the In-co?s Sudbury operation, extensive laboratory and miniplant studies were carried out. There are two potential feed streams for Cu/Ni separation at the existing operation. It is shown that Cu/Ni separation from the rougher concentrate is relatively simple without need of regrind. However, Cu/Ni separation can be difficult from the bulk concentrate because of the presence of excess flotation reagents in the bulk concentrate slurry and locked particles. Excess flotation reagents created excess froth increasing entrainment. By replacing the slurry water with tap water and with addition of some hydrogen peroxide, entrainment is minimized and good Cu/Ni separation is achieved on the bulk concentrate. Fine regrind is required to increase liberation of the locked particles for ultimately high copper recovery at the minimal nickel content.

Lead in environment often causes a serious health hazard. The removal of Pb2+ from aqueous phase is a beneficial project. In this paper, deposited Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S.c.) was chosen as adsorbent, Pb2+ ions as adsorbate, and the process of biosorption was studied. The dynamics of the adsorption was investigated. The adsorption mechanism of Pb2+ by S.c. cells was also investigated by detecting microstructure, zeta potential under different pH value, FT-IR spectra of the S.c. particles before and after biosorption. It was shown that the biosorption of Pb2+ by deposited S. c. is a rapid process, and the adsorbing equilibrium is reached within 10 minutes. The Zero point of zeta potential of S.c. cells is pH=3.3. When 2.0<pH<3.3, there exists biosorption (biosorption rate 76%~88%), which means static bio-sorption been not the only kind of biosorption. FT-IR spectrum analysis showed that groups on bacteria surface were mainly characteristic groups of protein and amylase; oxo-groups and nitric-groups on S.c. cell surface could chelate with heavy metal ions. Chemical adsorption might exist in the process.

"Different types of impact crushers use the physical effect of impact to crush rocks. The rocks can vary from soft to hard and from ductile to brittle but they should never be abrasive. Since the principles of impact crushing of larger rocks are hardly investigated these crushers are still sized rather by empirical than by scientific approaches.In order to investigate the principles of comminution by impact of large rocks a test rotor was developed and rocks of different dimensions were tested. The integrated measuring devices of the rotor enable the recording of impact forces and of absorbed impact energy with high resolution during the contact time.Since impact crushers stress the rock particles with a defined velocity the main crushing properties are gained as a function of the applied velocity and the particle size of the rock: likelihood of breakage, contact time, maximum crushing force, mass specific crushing work, surface related crushing ratio and crushed fragment shape distribution."

Arsenic bearing copper-gold ores deposit have been found in most areas of China, especially in southwest. Due to the very closed association between arsenic, copper and gold, conventional flotation and cyanide leaching process may not give positive results. An arsenic bearing copper-gold ore in Sichuan province ,with gold grade of 10.12 g/t, 0.6% Cu and 0.14% As, is characterized by superfine grains with -40 microns fraction accounting for 70.9% and the gold enwrapped mainly by pyrite and tennanite accounts for 34.31%. Arsenic in this ore occurs in isomorphism, deposited in tetrahedrite. The ore was processed primarily in two stage flotation to get copper bearing gold concentrate and pyrite bearing gold concentrate respectively, and sequentially processed by leaching. Under the pressure of 300 KPa and 110~115 ?, the copper-gold concentrate was leached by an oxidizing and catalyzing leach agent then copper and gold were separated from each other in leach solution. The pyrite bearing gold concentrate was processed by cyanide leaching with the leach residue as sulfur product. The test results showed that copper recovery was up to 88.89%, gold recovery up to 89.18% and sulfur recovery up to 92.64%.

Bioleaching method makes use of bacteria in solving metallic sulphides, so that these bacteria tend to convert insoluble metal sulphides into soluble sulphates. Since the kinetics description of this process is inevitable for better interpretation of relation between metabolism and growth of live organisms, as well as optimization of metals extraction processes, in this paper, this description is represented and designed in mathematic (kinetics) model for copper sulphide minerals based on Monod kinetics model. According to this model, special growth rate of bacteria (?) is a hyperbola function of restrictive substrate concentration (S). By Solving and developing of Monod kinetics model, a comprehensive kinetics model for bioleaching of copper sulphide minerals results. The designed is also applicable for other metal sulphides.

The air recovery from a flotation cell is the fraction of inlet air which overflows the weir as un-broken bubbles. The air recovery is an important factor in froth phase phenomena; such as gangue entrainment and froth recovery. Increasing the air recovery, results in a higher recovery of attached mineral particles. Air recovery can be measured experimentally on plant using image processing of the top surface of an overflowing froth. The air recovery is directly linked to froth stability and the bursting rate of the bubbles at the froth surface, making it very difficult to predict. Experimental results show a very strong correlation between the superficial velocity of the inlet air and the superficial velocity of the air leaving the cell through the froth surface due to bursting, calculated from the experimentally measured air recovery. This correlation holds over multiple banks from different plants. Development of a power law equation around the inlet air velocity and the bubble solids loading on the froth surface allows the superficial air velocity through the top surface of the froth to be predicted, and from this the air recovery. This model is valid for use when operating beyond the peak in air recovery.

"In this article, research on the beneficiation process for a carbon containing copper-molybdenum deposit in Henan province has been carried out. The elemental composition, mineral composition and relative content, characteristics of embedded and symbiotic relationship, the forms of the copper-molybdenum particlesand their disseminated features, and particle size distribution have been worked out. Flotation behavior of copper-molybdenum mixed flotation and separate flotation in the systems of different collectors and depressants, and the influence of different flowsheets on the copper-molybdenum separation have been investigated by actual ore flotation tests, The separation problem of copper-molybdenum for a carbon-containing copper molybdenum ore has been solved.INTRODUCTION In this paper, technological mineralogy, small experiment of flotation recovery of copper Molybdenum ore, and expansion experiment of mineral recovery of copper Molybdenum ore are introduced. (1) The results of process mineralogyshow that the content of copper is 0.42%, molybdenum is 0.021% in the raw ore, they mainly exist in the form of sulfide, with low oxidation rate. (2) The results of flotation tests show that the combination of butyl xanthate and isopropyl ethylthionocarbamate reagents is effective collector of copper-molybdenum mixed flotation for carbon copper molybdenum, (3) When the grinding fineness is -0.074 mm taking 71%, and regrinding fineness is -0.038 mm taking 85%, the flowsheet of first copper-molybdenum mixed flotation and then regrinding rough concentrate and last separation flotation of copper and molybdenum was adopted, which realized the effective separation of copper and molybdenum for carbon-containing copper molybdenum ore. Good flotation indexes were gained with copper concentrate containing 20.96% copper and copper recovery 90.06%, and molybdenum concentrate containing 46.78% molybdenum with molybdenum recovery 72.68%. (4) The seven days average concentration index of scale-up the continuous dressing experiment is as follows, the copper content in copper concentrate is 20.16% and the recovery is 89.61%; the molybdenum content in molybdenum concentrate is 24.58% and the recovery rate is 74.09%."

A low grade Pt-Pd ores, with 1g/t Pt and 0.13g/t Pd, and 8.70% Fe and 2.50% P2O5 is experimented to recover of Pt and Pd. The flowsheet is proposed which consists of Pt-Pd selective flotation, apatite flotation from tailings of Pt-Pd flotation, magnetic separation of magnetite from apatite flotation tailing. With butyl xanthate, N-ally group-O-isobuturyl-thioanimoformate and Sodium y-89 xanthate as collectors, sodium silicate as depressant, and sodium carbonate as pH regulator, a concentrate, assaying 324.52 g/t Pt and 45.62 g/t Pd, is obtained with recoveries of 87.23% Pt and 76.89% Pd from surface ore. A concentrate, assaying 1693.53 g/t Pt and 64.12 g/t Pd, is obtained with recoveries of 88.54% Pt and 83.78% Pd from primary ore. At same time, A iron concentrate assaying 64.12% Fe with a recovery of 24.94%, and a apatite concentrate assying 30.32% P2O5 with a recovery of 80.12% are obtained.

"Size and shape are important properties of aggregates formed in engineering processes and natural systems. Measurement of aggregate size or shape is a challenge when the solids concentration is beyond the gel point, ?? > ??g, when the aggregates are in contact and it is difficult to distinguish or segment individual particles in the network. This paper describes the use of a micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) method for the calculation of the aggregate volume fraction, ??, and a characteristic aggregate length, ??a, based on a 3D chord length measurement algorithm. These parameters can be used to quantify changes in aggregate and pore size during a compressive yield stress test to help understand the impact of flocculation and network structure on dewatering. INTRODUCTION In a thickener, flocculation is often used as a pre-treatment step and the final solids content of the underflow depends on the network strength and permeability of the bed formed by settled aggregates (Usher, Spehar, and Scales 2009). This paper describes the measurement and analysis of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) of flocculated mineral sediments to obtain a characteristic length, ??a, of the aggregate and pore phases during a staged compressive yield stress experiment. This parameter may be used as an indicator of changes in aggregate and pore size to quantify material behaviour in solid-liquid separation processes that depend on self-weight compression or applied pressure. "Fine free gold at a size of minus 250-100 µm can be effectively recovered from mineral materials (buried clay placers, saprolites, gold-bearing aggregates, technogenic sands etc.), or MM, using some developed and implemented in practice cost-effective basic technological schemes of MM processing at every stage: exploration, main concentration processes, upgrading of gravity concentrates etc. Such technologies are based on mineral materials composition, different content of fine gold mass fractions, and include improved two-stage sluicing technology, jigging technology, advanced technology and integrated technology. The main operation principle of the given technologies is gravity concentration. They provide recovery of fine gold of any size from MM, including gold finer than 100 µm, using concentration systems and plants with a capacity of 1-2 and up to 100-200 m3 per hour. Selection of a cost-effective technology depends on its technical and economic viability regarding to mineral material composition, optimum performance and concentration rate. The developed technologies of mineral materials concentration establish a balance between technological, technical and economic factors, and ensure profitable development of deposits containing free gold and characterized by a complex composition of concentrating material. Free gold recovery with these systems increases by 2.0-2.5 times for gold particles at a size of minus 250+100 µm and 10-30 times for gold particles of minus 100 µm, compared to conventional sluicing systems. The Irgiredmet Institute has developed and supplies primary concentrate washing machines for upgrading gravity concentrates of up to 100 mm in size, with a capacity of 1.0-5.0 m3/h, fitted with various production equipment including pyro- and hydrometallurgical systems. Additionally, the Irgiredmet Institute develops and manufactures systems of mechanized processing of geological and technological samples (UOMP; registered design certificate No.27505, Russia) designed for complete recovery of free gold in the process of geological samples handling and decreasing of a human factor influence. A system includes a package of technologically associated disintegration, classification and concentration equipment with some “know-how” elements that provide effective recovery of fine gold at the exploration stage. In High Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR), the material grinding takes place between the fixed and floating rollers. In this regard, the rollers start to wear over a period of time, which is impacted by for e.g.: ore characteristics, operating pressure, feed material size and non-uniform feed presentation across the roller width. HPGR operational experiences have shown that the rollers do not wear at the same rate. This differential wear rate over time leads to differences in the tangential speeds of the rollers, causing an uneven gap between the fixed and floating rollers in relation to the material. This unwanted but extremely common situation results in a less effective grinding process due to the fact that the slip between rollers is not optimal. As the rollers wear profile increases, the roller with smaller diameter starts to wear further, deteriorating the comminution efficiency up to a point where operators have to stop the HPGR to replace the rollers. Since the wear rate of the rollers is not equal, the replacement of the same cannot be properly planned so that their life-time are fully utilized. In this paper, a dynamic load share control with the use of ABB’s variable speed drive system is proposed, which provides the possibility to the HPGR operator to impact the roller wear in such a way that it equalizes the wear rate to a certain extent and extends the roller life time. Called RollXtend™, this solution includes a load share factor which can be parameterized based on the wear measurement performed manually during maintenance procedure. Additionally, this paper describes an automated load sharing concept based on a non-invasive wear measurement method. The partial results of the technology trial in a copper/gold mine are presented, which aimed at detecting stud damage and estimating the real rollers profile throughout their life time. The final objective of the pilot project was reduce the amount of planned and unplanned downtimes of the HPGR by increasing the rollers life time and avoiding catastrophic stud damages.

"Three important components of stirred tanks involved in energy consumption, the impellers and baffles, were investigated to intensify the agitation pretreatment on the flotation of nickel ores. Flotation tests revealed that the stirred tanks with two impellers had an advantage over those with one impeller in intensifying agitation pretreatment, and the higher agitation speed led to better flotation performance of nickel ores. Installation and removal of baffles were also employed in the stirred tanks, and flotation tests demonstrated that with baffles, the flotation grade increased significantly. These agitator design improvements were used to demonstrate that the energy supplied to the system significantly influences the flotation recovery and that if the energy consumption of the agitation pretreatment is ideal, flotation efficiency can be improved. Data from full-scale operations backed up these results.INTRODUCTIONThe flotation recovery of nickel-copper sulphide ore at the Western China nickel mine has historically been difficult due to the presence of large amounts of serpentine minerals (Feng, et al., 2012). Many studies reported that serpentine minerals tend to have a positive potential at pH values up to 9.5, while sulphides (such as pentlandite and chalcopyrite) have a low isoelectric point(Feng, et al., 2012). Serpentine minerals can form surface coatings on negatively charged sulphides surface due to electrostatic attraction when they interact with each other, which may also reduce collector adsorption and increase the hydrophilicity of the sulphide particles. In order to improve the flotation of nickel sulphides, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium silicate, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and other agents are used to disperse serpentine coating from sulphide surfaces in the flotation of the Jinchuan deposit and other nickel ores in China ( Kirjavainen and Heiskanen, 2007; Lu, et al., 2011). However, it is difficult to improve of the sulphide flotation due to the high dosage and the lack of selectivity."

The velocity of gas passing through a flotation cell can be estimated by collecting bubbles by natural buoyancy in a closed tube and measuring the rate of pressure increase. The governing equation is derived and verified. Single- and two-tube gas velocity sensors are described. The latter design permits a correction for bulk density and level change during signal collection.

The present paper deals with the development of flotation based process for enrichment of a lead-zinc sulphide ore from Ganesh-Himal region of Nepal. Detailed characterisation and flotation studies were carried out under varying process conditions. The sample assayed 2.47% Pb with 13.6% Zn. The ore was predominantly made up of spahlerite and pyrite in association with subordinate amounts of galena, minor amounts of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. Dolomite was the main gangue. The modal analysis showed the probability of fair liberation of sulphides from gangues around 210 microns but the locking of galena with sphalerite and other sulphides continued to finer sizes. Under the optimum process conditions the rougher lead and zinc recoveries were 96.3% and 90% respectively. Multistage cleanings of rougher products proved helpful in improving the concentrate grade, meeting the required specification. Based on the studies undertake a process flow-sheet for the concentration of the ore to individual lead and zinc concentrates was developed.

"The objective of this work is the scientific justification and development of efficient and environmentally-friendly method of bulk concentrate preparation for selection with application of microbiological practices. This research suggests to apply Pseudomonas Japonica bacterial culture to the bulk concentrate before the selection circuit in order to clear the surface of sulphides from the xanthate skin. It is also suggested to apply bacterial consortium Ochrobactrum ?nthropi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa JCM 5962 for desorption of diesel residual concentrations. High-efficient and environmentally friendly method of copper-molybdene and lead-zinc bulk concentrate selection was developed based on theoretical and experimental research work with application of microbiological practices. In comparison with conventional methods (steaming, sodium sulphide washing) the above suggested bio-technological method of bulk concentrate preparation before selection cycle will allow to reduce material and power expenditures, and it is also environmentally friendly. INTRODUCTION High-efficient selection of sulphide bulk concentrate is gained exclusively after collecting agent is removed from mineral surface. Therefore, the problem of bulk concentrate preparing before the selection cycle is acute, since the further technological parameters of the subsequent separation depends on the effectiveness of pulp preparation. Existing traditional ways of bulk concentrate preparation. such as washing or steaming, are characterized by high energy and material costs in industrial conditions [1,2]. The microbiological treatment before separation of the bulk concentrate into different kind of concentrates appear one of perspective processes for treatment of bulk concentrates [3,4]. At the present time, the world practice of processing mineral raw materials demonstrates the wide application of technologies using microorganisms: bacterial leaching and oxidation, purification of industrial wastewater. This is due to the fact that biotechnological methods are environmentally safe, low-cost, and suitable for refining complex ores and raw materials of industrial origin."
