The XRF Core-Scanner system performs non-destructive analysis of elements from Mg to U, in concentrations of ppm levels on split cores with digital images. Using the AVAATECH XRF Corescanner system, we conducted high resolution element analysis of deep sea sediment cores from Clarion-Clipperton fracture zone of the northeastern Pacific to reveal recent environmental changes. Comparison of data estimated by the XRF core scanner with ICP-AES showed relatively weak correlation coefficients except Mn contents. Down-core variations of most elements seem to be matched with each other and reflect changes of sediment colors. Especially Mn/Al ratio significantly change at distinct color boundaries. The variations of Mn/Al ratio with sediment colors are suggestive of changes in redox condition and further divided into two types probably affected by activities of benthic organisms. Be isotope age datings of select core (BC08-02-13) indicate that the color boundaries are approximately coincident with late Pliocene and Pleostocene also early Pliocene and late Pliocene boundary. The occurrences of polymetallic minerals within the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) of many Pacific Island Countries (PICs) have been confirmed through marine scientific researches and seabed minerals exploration in the last forty years, and are increasingly being recognized by nations as a future potential source of revenue and economic development. For many of the smaller PICs, this may represent the only exploitable natural resource sector apart from fish. SOPAC (then under the CCOP/SOPAC) was actively involved with deep sea mineral exploration in many countries in the South Pacific between the 1970s and early 1980s that led to the discovery of a number of seabed mineral occurrences within the EEZs of these countries. In collaboration with SOPAC, a number of multinational consortia and national agencies were involved in this early stage of seabed mineral prospecting in the region. This was followed by a twenty-year (1985-2005) marine mineral prospecting in the Pacific through the collaborative effort of the Government of Japan and SOPAC as well as the Ridge 2000 program. Other mineral prospecting and marine scientific research initiatives have been conducted in recent years and the most notable one is the Nautilus Minerals advanced exploration in the Manus Basin in PNG. Based on the results of previous exploration, a number of countries in the region with moderate to high deep sea mineral resources potential are identified. Seafloor Massive Sulphide deposits have been confirmed in PNG, Tonga and Fiji while the Cook Islands and Kiribati have high manganese nodule resources potential in addition to significant occurrences of Cobalt-rich Crust within the EEZs of the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia. Despite the recent surge in deep sea minerals interest and activity around the Pacific, specific policy, legislation and regulations necessary for the governance of deep sea mineral resources are lacking. Also lacking is the specific technical and human resources capacity essential to ensure that PICs are able to effectively manage these seabed resources. Consequently, SOPAC under the EU funded Deep-Sea Minerals (DSM) Project will work with Pacific ACP States to develop a regional regulatory framework from which they can develop their national frameworks for the sustainable management of their marine mineral resources. The work is of critical importance if PICs are to have effective environmental, fiscal and social management instruments in place for the exploration and exploitation of deep sea minerals that could support economic growth within the region as a whole.

Numerous hydrothermal vents occur along the Earth?s oceanic spreading axes documenting the reaction of seawater with hot magmatic rocks. The circulation of seawater through the oceanic crust, the interaction with hot rocks in the crust, and the subsequent discharge of hot metal- and gas-rich fluids into the ocean have significant implications for the cycling of material and energy on Earth. Until recently, hydrothermal activity was unknown from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) south of the Equator where the MAR is offset by about 1000 km at the St. Paul?s and Romanche fracture zones. During a British cruise in February/March 2005, the first active hydrothermal vent field was discovered on the southern MAR at 5°S. During our follow-up cruise M64/1 in April 2005, the first samples from this vent field were recovered with the ROV QUEST (Univ. Bremen) and analyzed onboard. The high-temperature vent field is situated in a water depth of 2990 m along a line of collapse pits within a large basaltic sheet flow. A diffuse, low-temperature field occurs in a jumbled sheet flow few hundred meters to the east with warm water streaming out of cavities between lava blocks. Here we show for the first time that boiling fluids of ~400°C are emanating from sulfide-bearing vents at a depth of about 3000 m at a slow-spreading Mid-Atlantic Ridge segment. Although this segment is composed of thick basaltic crust, these fluids are dominated by hydrogen relative to methane. Whereas the active chimneys consist of pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, and isocubanite, the mineral association hematite-magnetite-pyrite occurs in the inactive chimneys suggesting that the fluids became more reducing in present times. The high hydrogen contents and the high temperature of the fluids as well as the change to more reducing conditions are most likely related to a young volcanic eruption event some 300 m east of the hydrothermal field. The presence of hematite and magnetite may indicate that the upflow zone or even the reaction zone at 5°S used to be more oxidized then at other MOR sites, where the hydrothermal fluids are commonly buffered by the pyrite-pyrrhotite-magnetite (PPM) buffer. Consequently, high iron contents and high hydrogen/methane ratios occur in high temperature fluids from basaltic host rocks rather than being restricted to ultramafic host rocks. Faunal communities at the South Atlantic vents largely resemble those from the North Atlantic vents implying that the large Equatorial fracture zones do not inhibit or obstruct faunal exchange along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

Much advance has been made in offshore hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in India. But the same amount of success could not be achieved in the case of other offshore minerals which are amenable for mining. However, employing present technology, there should not be any difficulty in successful exploitation with minimum environmental hazards. A demonstration is provided by considering the conditions prevailing in the Kerala offshore (southwest coast of India) scenario of monazite, ilmenite, phosphatic mud and calcareous deposits. Mud banks are unique phenomenon of the Kerala coast during monsoon season. Acting as barriers to waves, mud banks protect portions of the beaches from being eroded and trap sediments from either side facilitating growth of adjacent beach. The easy minable possibilities of the phosphatic mud during non-monsoon season with less pollution hazards and dumping back the waste material after processing for phosphate at the breaker zones to reduce the erosional effects on the coast make the exploitation economic and ecofriendly unlike the benefication of the lowgrade phosphate ores on land on a comparatively larger area and subsequent crushing, transport and resulting pollution.

Low- to intermediate-temperature, diffuse-flow hydrothermal fields and associated mineral precipitates have been found at many locations along oceanic spreading centers, back-arc basin spreading axes, and midplate hot-spots. However, this type of hydrothermal field has not been found in oceanic fracture zones until recently. We mapped and collected samples from an active hydrothermal field in the Blanco Fracture Zone (BFZ) located in the northeast Pacific. The BFZ connects the Gorda and Juan de Fuca spreading centers and is divided into east and west segments by Cascadia Depression, a small spreading center. Small pull-apart basins occur along both the east and west segments. A complex set of basins near the western end of the BFZ includes from east to west, Surveyor Depression, East Blanco Depression (EBD), and West Blanco Depression. The hydrothermal field described here is located in the EBD.

Diamond mega-placers, in order to rank amongst the primary diamond deposits, are defined as => 70 m carats at =>95% gem quality. There is only one mega-placer known and that is found along the coast of southwestern Africa fringing the Kaapvaal craton. Placers are classified as residual when they are left on the craton, transient when being eroded into the exit drainage and terminal. Terminal placers, in being the final depositories of diamonds off the craton, have the greatest probability of being a mega-placer and such is the case in the placer deposits near the Orange River mouth, southwestern Africa. There are four main groups of conditions leading to the development of a mega-placer: the craton, the drainage, the nature of the environment at the terminus and the timing. The craton, in its role as the producer of diamonds is significant in respect to its size, diamond-fertility, the degree to which diamonds from successive kimberlite intrusions have been retained there and their availability to the final drainage yielding the mega-placer. Cratons in being buoyant have a tendency to leak diamonds into surrounding basins but in being incompressible often have orogens converge onto them resulting in lost sediment being returned as foreland basin fills. In order to concentrate a bulk of diamonds the drainage basin has to be large with a high proportion of it on the craton. The drainage yielding the mega-placer should ideally not have been preceded by older drainage and other systems that may have robbed the craton of earlier diamonds. The exits of diamonds from the craton need to be few in order to focus on their supply and the drainage network needs to be efficient in order to remove the maximum volume of diamonds off the craton. This efficiency and the focused termination is best achieved by the rejuvenation of a pre-existing drainage network. The drainage should be young enough to yield host sediments friable enough to allow brittle diamonds to be recovered from them.

"Advancing our knowledge about trace metal distribution and abundance provides insight into formation, alteration, and trace element enrichment processes of ferromanganese nodules and crusts. A fundamental understanding of these mechanisms, in turn, has implications for the selective recovery of critical metals and the development of sustainable hydrometallurgical techniques. Synchrotron-based X-ray Fluorescence (SXRF) is a powerful, state-of-the-art analytical tool that can examine geochemical features of Fe-Mn nodules and crusts, such as abundance and distribution of trace elements, in an integrated and efficient manner. By correlating trace element composition and Mn oxidation states in these highly complex samples, it can be determined whether these parameters are related to the Mn oxide mineralogy (vacancy content of crystal lattice) and chemistry.In this study, eleven Fe-Mn nodule and crust samples from three circum-Australian locations – the South Tasman Rise, Lord Howe Rise, and Coral Sea – were analyzed at the Australian Synchrotron, Victoria, Australia. Micrometer-scale spatial resolution of geochemical features, such as concentric growth structures and element distribution, was achieved with high sensitivity (Fig. 1). For instance, Ni could be detected at 10's of ppm to 1 wt% levels. Information on other redox-sensitive trace elements, which are present at 10-1000 ppm levels (e.g., Cu, Co, Ti), were gained by means of fully quantitative elemental composition maps."

The rapid advancement of green technologies in recent years is closely tied to an ever- increasing demand for raw materials. Innovative forms of zero-emission transportation and sustainable power generation will require a variety of traditional metals such as Ni and Co, but also many non-traditional metals (e.g., REY). Many of these elements are known to be highly enriched in deep-sea ferromanganese (Fe-Mn) nodules and crusts. However, unlocking these metals from their deposits through metal processing is – aside from deposit exploration and production – expected to be a critical component that will affect the overall economics of the marine mining value chain. Hence, research and development of tailored metal processing solutions which can target specific metals of interest in Fe-Mn nodules and crusts, is required. Dynamic mineral recrystallization (DMR) of Fe-Mn oxide phases is a geochemical process that may have notable potential for hydrometallurgical applications. We have recently demonstrated that Ni can effectively be cycled between deep-sea Fe-Mn nodules and crusts and solutions through dynamic mineral recrystallization. DMR occurs in nature as abiotic background process during biogeochemical Mn cycling when dissolved Mn(II) is in direct contact with Mn oxides. Trace metals which are incorporated in the Mn host phases, are cycled between solid phase and solution via coupled dissolution (trace metal release) – reprecipitation (trace metal incorporation) mechanisms.

Seafloor massive sulphides (SMS) can serve as a potential resource of metals such as Cu, Zn, Au and Ag. SMS rock samples from the Loki’s Castle area at the Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge are comprised of sulphide bearing minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, isocubanite, galena, sphalerite, whereas the gangue consists mainly of barite and silica. Sphalerite, chalcopyrite and isocubanite show complex intergrowth textures on the nano- to microscale. Various mineral processing tests were conducted in order to recover copper, zinc and silver. It was shown that sensor-based sorting can be efficiently used for preconcentration of SMS rock samples. A significant amount of waste (i.e. barite and silica) was removed in the preconcentration stage with very low losses of copper and zinc to the waste fraction. The upgraded samples were sent to the next processing stages. The results showed that the complex mineralogy of the SMS material provided challenges to conventional mineral processing methods. Hydrometallurgical processing was applied as an alternative method for extraction of metals from SMS. Leaching experiments were conducted using solutions of different lixiviants, and it was shown that leaching of SMS together with manganese nodules would facilitate efficient recovery of metals from these resources.

Hydrothermal marine manganese-oxide deposits (HMMD) are cemented and variously replaced volcaniclastic and biogenic sediments that were mineralized by distal, low- temperature, hydrothermal fluids. HMMD predominantly form below the seabed as sediment-hosted statabound deposits but can also form on the seabed. These deposits form at oceanic and back-arc basin spreading centers, volcanic arcs, and mid-place hotspot volcanoes. HMMD have traditionally not been considered to have an economic potential because they were considered to be devoid of economically valuable critical elements. This contrasts with their non-hydrothermal counterparts, ferromanganese crusts and nodules, which are enriched in many critical elements. However, manganese is now one of the critical metals and HMMD have the highest manganese contents (up to 55% Mn, so- called battery-grade Mn) of all the types of deep-ocean mineral deposits. There is a growing demand for this critical metal and an upward trend exists in the price of manganese on the global market. Also, other critical elements can occur in high concentrations in some HMMD and their economic potential has not been considered, especially for lithium (up to 0.17%) and molybdenum (up to 0.24%), but also vanadium (to 820 ppm), chromium (to 346 ppm), and nickel (to 0.45%), among others. Which of these critical elements are enriched and their concentrations depend on the types of rocks leached at depth by the hydrothermal fluids, the composition of hydrothermal minerals precipitated in the higher temperature parts of the circulation system, and the types of sediments mineralized by the manganese oxides. For example, mineralization of a carbonate sediment resulted in the highest lithium contents, whereas leaching of ultramafic rocks at depth as a rule results in the highest chromium and nickel contents in the HMMD. These deposits are known to be widespread, especially in volcanic arcs, but their lateral and vertical extents and consequently size, tonnage, and grade have not been determined. Most samples of hydrothermal deposits have been collected by dredging and therefore the in situ relationships often are not known. One sample from the Mariana volcanic arc, west Pacific, was collected by ROV at 1274 m water depth from a layered outcrop 6.6 m thick that may be a sequence of pervasively mineralized volcaniclastic layers and offers the first clue as to the potential vertical extent that these deposits may attain. However, only the top ~0.4 m-thick layer was sampled, so it is not known whether the mineralization extents throughout the outcrop. Although large manganese deposits of various origins occur on the continents, they consist of manganese carbonates, silicates, or complex mixtures of manganese minerals. In contrast, marine hydrothermal HMMD exhibit relatively simple mineralogy that would make processing of this potential ore much simpler.

A very small nation with large seabed resources requires a strategy. The simplest approach is to duplicate every step taken by the United Nations (UN), in its own leasing programme. In addition, the smaller nations must sell itself and its competitive offering. It is one thing just to await applicants and/ or tenders, another to work to make the leasing seem like a very good idea. This cap be achieved through publications, correspondence, meetings (such as the Underwater Mining Institute, but especially through pro-active planning, seeking the ideal technologies in both harvesting and processing. The ideal would be some combination that could begin quickly and on a small scale. It must be within the UN environmental guidelines. To meet the "quick and small criteria," simple harvesting and physical processing methods must be given the highest priority. Once these are satisfied, then marketing studies can be completed. There is, of course, a market for every element but only careful engineering and cost analysis will determine accessibility. What is required is a stepwise approach, gaining greater and greater credibility at each step. In fact, much planning can be done for very low cost. In the Cook Islands, the first crucial step was the East-West Center publication which pulled together all facts in one volume and which found the local resource to be richer in significant ways than Clarion-Clipperton. Most seem to believe that it could be many years before full production is possible, but this has been conventional wisdom for so long that it has taken on the suspicious aura of myth. Is it real? Have all possible recent technologies such as robotics and physical processing been taken into account? Either way, it is essential that a comprehensive approach be taken so that all factors from resource to market are considered as inter-related until a single business plan emerges. When that is in hand and when its profitability and risk levels are found to be credible, adequate investment funds are available.

Canada has a long history of marine-related industry and onshore mining. Even so, commercial interest in marine mining, excluding seawater mineral extraction and offshore extensions of hardrock deposits such as iron and coal, has been sporadic; despite the fact that shelf mineral deposits supply a significant proportion of the national market requirements for many countries. Several factors have accounted for this including: a relative abundance of onland mineral desposits; the fact that onland deposits can be mined using conventional technology; and, a general lack of knowledge and public awareness as to Canadian offshore non-fuel mineral resource potential. In the mid-1970s the Department of Energy, Mines & Resources formed the Departmental Coordinating Committee on Ocean Mining. The Committee addressed the question of shelf non-fuel mineral resource potential and concluded that, while several reports had raised the possibilty of this alternative source, there had not been a systematic evaluation of the resource base. This led to the formation of a Shelf Working Group, whose task it was to outline and implement a departmental program to advance our knowledge of shelf resource potential. The source of base metals in modern seafloor hydrothermal systems can be attributed to leaching of host rocks by hydrothermal fluids and/or potentially by direct degassing of magma. From an economic perspective, metal grade is the most important consideration for seafloor deposits. Tectonic setting appears to be a key factor influencing the development of high grade seafloor base metal sulfide deposits. Back-arcs have a clear advantage over other settings in producing large and rich polymetallic sulfide ores. Microinclusions of magma or so-called melt inclusions trapped in phenocrysts of lavas have contributed to our understanding of the ore-forming process. n this study, we present data from 103 melt inclusions mainly in plagioclase crystals hosted in basaltic to rhyolitic lavas from 9 modern seafloor tectonic settings: oceanic back-arcs (Manus Basin including an ODP Leg 193 drill hole, Bransfield Straits), continental back-arc (Okinawa Trough), mid-ocean ridges (Explorer, MAR), seamounts (Foundation, Axial, Pito), and a transform (Garrett). Most sites host active hydrothermal systems that are producing polymetallic sulfides.

The North Fiji Basin (NFB) is a mature intraoceanic back arc basin with an age of ~12 Ma. Recent volcanism and spreading activity are focused along the Central Spreading Ridge (CSR), A ridge segment more than 800 km long, composed of four main segments, the N160°, N15°, north-south (N-S), and southernmost segments from north to south. The dominant volcanic rock in the entire central spreading ridge is normal mid-ocean ridge basalt (N-MORB), very similar to those emplaced along mid-oceanic ridges. Conversely, influence of an oceanic island basalt (OIB) source increases northward from 18°20'S. Several basalts which show a significant subduction-related component are also observed in the southern part of the NFB. Hydrothermal activity along the spreading centers of the North Fiji Basin was investigated by several previous works, especially by the STARMER project in 1989 and 1991. Both extinct and active hydrothermal vents are found on the N15° and N-S segments. In contrast, only traces of hydrothermal activity have been found on the N160° segment. Although high temperature activity and related massive sulfide deposit on the N15° segment was further investigated by several follow-up studies, no systematic survey for other hydrothermal sites was conducted after their discovery. In 2012 and 2013, KIOST performed two hydrothermal expeditions aboard the R/V Onnuri in the three targeted areas of hydrothermal activity along the CSR of North Fiji Basin. Recent offshore diamond exploration has been concentrated in the SW Joseph Bonaparte Gulf. I`IW Australia. Extensive high resolution seismic and sampling surveys have been carried out in Cambridge Gulf, offshore of the mouth of the OR River and other rivers of the region. Surface-tow boomer surveys have been correlated with sampling data from vibracores and a wide diameter (1m) airlift system, providing a geological framework for the area. Although large-scale bulk sampling has not been undertaken, there has been no reported recovery of diamonds since 1993. The geology and prospectivity of a range of potential diamond traps in high energy, fluvial and transgressive depositional settings has been assessed. Potentially diamondiferous targets include (i) a shoreline apron. (ii) fluvial/estuarine channel infills and terraces and (iii) ravinement surfaces.. Although there is evidence for a long history of fluvial development and sea level changes, the majority of the investigated traps represent the result of erosion and sedimentation during and following the last interglacial. Significant volumes of unconsolidated gravels and coarse-grained sands with occasional indurated layers are present, and are locally exposed at sea beet In place s thick successions (>5m) of fine-grained overburden overlie the coarse-grained sediments.

It is well known that diamonds are found in Kimberlite pipes within the earth’s crust and are also discovered where erosion has released them to be concentrated by rivers in trap sites within alluvial gravels. Few people are aware however, that diamonds are now being found in significant quantities at sea. And that the rugged marine environment has ensured that the quality of diamonds in the sea is predominantly gem quality. Shortly after intrusion of Kimberlites into the host rocks of the karoo in the Cretaceous period massive erosion occurred when torrential rivers carried diamonds from their Kimberlitic source rocks down the rivers and into the sea. In the sea they have been subject to a transporting and concentrating dynamic, which has deposited them in trap sites along the West Coast of Africa for hundreds of kilometers. In the last 60 million years the sea level along the West Coast has varied in steps from the current sea level to – 300m. With time at each beach level the sea has reconcentrated the diamonds previously carried down. These old beach levels exist at roughly 10 meter intervals. Each previous sea level now provides a target for marine miners. Marine diamond mining was started 46 years ago by the first pioneer, a Texan, Sammy Collins. Collins brought the potential of marine diamonds to the attention of major mining companies. With now outmoded technology Collins had days when he recovered pockets of high grade gems worth several million dollars; an excitement hard to equal in any walk of life. Amongst marine miners there is still a strong pioneering spirit but the industry has matured and now aims to consistently produce over two million carats of gems a year. The potential resource is huge stretching up to 30 kilometers offshore along the West Coast of Africa from South Africa to Angola.

Submarine hydrothermal mineralization occurs in at least three locations along the Hellenic Volcanic Arc in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Weak hydrothermal discharges occur off Kos and Nisseros at the eastern end of the arc and off Milos at the western end. In both cases the hydrothermal solutions are rich in iron and manganese and are precipitating iron oxides variably enriched in minor elements. This points to the likely presence of sulphide minerals at shallow depth below the sea floor at these locations. By contrast, at Santorini, in the centre of the arc, the hydrothermal discharges are much stronger and rate of deposition of the hydrothermal minerals much greater. Indeed, in one of the two hydrothermally active embayments off Santorini (Nea Kameni) hydrothermal deposits are accumulating up to five times as fast as in the Atlantis II Deep of the Red Sea. Radiocarbon dating indicates that these deposits have been accumulating for about 100 years. In the other embayment off Santorini (Palaea Kameni), hydrothermal deposition has taken place over a longer period (more than 1,000 years) but the deposits are not so hydrothermally enriched due to the simultaneous deposition of biogenic silica and detrital mineral with the hydrothermal deposits. The observed pattern of increasing intensity of submarine hydrother¬mal activity from the extremities of the arc towards its centre argues for additional hydrothermal mineralization on poorly explored areas of the sea floor between Milos and Santorini and between Kos and Santorini.

The elucidation of the theory of plate tectonics has provided a conceptual framework for understanding the formation and distribution of different types of ore deposits. For example, we now recognize that certain kinds of mineral deposits are generally associated with a particular type of plate boundary (i.e., massive sulfides often occur along divergent plate boundaries, whereas porphyry copper deposits are typically found along convergent boundaries). During certain geologic time periods, plate reorganization events have changed the relative proportion of different types of plate boundaries. Corresponding changes have been observed in the abundance and distribution of ores deposited during these times. The present study examines the temporal aspects of this relationship; i.e., do plate reorganization events play an active or passive role in ore formation? In other words, do plate reorganizations simply provide a more favorable tectonic setting in which ore formation can occur over significant time periods, or are they directly linked to the mineralization process? We have examined this question by comparing regional tectonic histories with the ages of known massive sulfide and porphyry copper deposits. Because these deposits, in particular massive sulfides, form as a result of hydrothermal activity, we have also compared regional tectonic histories with proxy indicators of this process in the marine sedimentary record. These indicators include increased mass accumulation rates of Ca, Fe, Mn, and opal, characteristic changes in the Sr/Ca and Mg/Ca ratios of biogenous carbonates, and shoaling of the carbonate compenstion

Recently high-resolution paleomagnetic age determination of ferromanganese crust in less than millimeter scale has been successfully carried out using a superconducting quantum interference device microscopy magnetometer (SMM). However, it has not been clearly identified how the crust is keeping ancient geomagnetic field records. Here we try to identify magnetic mineralogy of the crust obtained in the Magellan Seamounts, the West Pacific (~20 °N). As a record, age of the crust used in this study is extended to ~10 Ma at ~40 mm depth and ~28 Ma at ~100 mm depth, respectively, based on the combination approach of SMM measurements, Be-isotope and Co-chronology. Thermal demagnetization revealed a Curie temperature of ~560oC, corresponding to (titano)magnetite. Component analysis of isothermal remanent magnetization identified a presence of two types of magnetite. Measurements of first order reverse curve showed a dominance of non-interacting single-domain magnetite, which is one of the intrinsic feature of biogenic magnetite. Although most of the magnetic particles on transmitted electron microscopy are covered by amorphous Fe-Mn minerals, some are observed as a prototype of biogenic magnetite showing a chain of ~10 nm sized magnetite cubes. However, a magnetite signal (i.e., Verway transition at ~ –120 oC) was not detected in low-temperature treatment probably due to surface oxidation of magnetite. Contribution of interacting magnetite of detrital origin is <30% throughout a crust. Interestingly, contribution of detrital magnetite is almost three times higher since ~10 Ma. At this boundary, a growth rate of the crust is double up and flux of other detrital signals, including Al, Mg, Ti and Zr, are also increased.
