"The moisture in sintering is a very important parameter for the performance of the process. It allows that the granulation takes pace in an efficient way making the water bridges between the bigger particles used as nucleus and the finer particles that perform the coating of those coarse particles. The formation of the micro pellets is extremely important to prevent loss in permeability of the bed in the sintering grate, avoiding excessive fuel consumption and producing a quality sinter. The aim of this project is to use some of the methodologies for determine the saturation degree on ores and coal to determine the optimal moisture for sintering. In the sinter pot grate series, 3 to 4 assays in a series of 10 are required to determine the optimal moisture for the process. The saturation degree curve test has shown that is really viable to use this technique to skip those tests and go directly to the series to determine productivity and the coke / anthracite consumption. In an industrial scale can be used to adjust the water addition in the conventional mixing methods used in the sintering plants to increase productivity in the process.INTRODUCTION Sintering Sintering is a high temperature agglomeration process in which iron ore fines are partially melted and bonded together using fluxes and a source of fuel, usually coke breeze. The agglomerated product, sinter, has improved metallurgical properties making it an ideal ferrous burden that enable the passage of hot gases in the iron-making blast furnace. The sintering process is normally carried out over three basic stages: granulation, ignition/sintering, and product sizing. In the granulation stage, iron ore fines (usually a blend of selected ores), sinter return fines, fluxes and fuel, and are mixed with water and micro-pelletised in a drum or disc before being introduced in the main granulation circuit. Controlling a wide range of minerals processes with single control system is an ordinary way to operate in mines all over the world these days. However the potential of these systems is not yet fully recognized nor utilized. The key issue is to manage the information in a way that enables automating the day-to-day tasks, quality control and safety functions. At the same time it provides means for optimization and constant improvement of processes creating a working environment where the system helps employees to do their key tasks instead of searching, modifying, and transmitting the huge number of information arising every day. The distribution of control system nodes enables the other processes to run heedless of a problem occurring in one of the sub-processes. Also the control room can be in remote location such as in large city removing the need to travel substantially long distances to plant sites every day. When all essential information is brought to the same place there is less risk for a mishap to happen due to information breaks that are often the cause of them. One of the biggest single reasons that result in production losses are break downs of machinery usually caused by normal wear, misuse, incorrect utilization rate etc. For this reason it is important to measure the condition of machines using vibration measurement and diagnostics. By moving from failure or time-based maintenance towards predictive or performance maintenance generates eventually a steady and predictable process but also results in significant long term savings. The mineral process at Talvivaara mine is based on bioheapleaching, whereby metals are leached from ore as a result of bacterial action. Bioleaching is a fairly new technology used in metals recovery. Therefore it is important for the mine to collect and analyze data from different stages of the minerals process. Talvivaara mine?s Metso DNA system has integrated machine condition monitoring and information management. These are not only necessary but also crucial in environmental conditions where the outside temperature can drop below -35°C, where ice and snow dominate the landscape and impact the equipment for four months a year and where distances between equipment can be up to 7.5 kilometers. Flotation researches of indium-beard marmatite from the Dulong multi-metallic ore in the Yunnan Province of China has been studied in order to improve the grades and recoveries of zinc and indium of the zinc concentrate in the Dulong concentration plant. The experimental results have shown that copper sulfate mixed with a chemical reagent X-1 as the activator in the marmatite flotation produced a much better beneficiation than copper sulfate alone, increasing the zinc and indium recoveries of 10% and 6%, respectively, while the concentrate grades were unchanged. Also, the new activator acted well around pH 10, allowing large savings on lime consumption in the marmatite flotation. In addition, it has been found that a sufficient activated time of activator with ore slur-ry in the flotation is needed to achieve good beneficiation of the marmatite ore.

The research on selecting of an efficient technology of pyrite cinders complex treatment, sulfuric acid production wastes, have been made. The grades in the initial product were 2.04 g Au/t, 35.0 g Ag /t, 0.38%Cu, 1.1% Zn. Laboratory tests on cyanide technology, thiourea and sulphite leaching were carried out. Magnetic and flotation beneficiation and biohydrometallurgical technology were tested. After considering the results of the tests, the most economically efficient technology of pyrite cinders complex treatment with cyanide leaching of precious metals was determined. The technology involves water washing of soluble copper and zinc compounds, lime treatment and cyanide leaching of gold and silver, detoxification and utilization of mineral wastes. The precious metals are recovered from solutions by cementation onto zinc. Copper is recovered from rinse waters by SW/EW and then zinc is precipitated as hydroxide. All the solutions and organic agent are used in recirculation and therefore the technology is practically waste-free. Mineral wastes can be used as iron-containing materials for cement industry. The technology has been tested in pilot-plant scale under continuous operation with complete re-circulation of cyanide solutions. In this process recovery of 54% Au, 45% Ag, 30% Cu and 50% Zn has been achieved.

The status of utilization of copper ore resources, and the application and development of biohydrometallury technology in the world is reviewed. Based on the characterization of Zambia?s copper resources, biohydrometallurgy technology is shown to be a practical approach to extract and utilize the enormous low grade copper resource, such as ore tailings and low grade copper ore in this country. Through the cooperation of CSU, China and MMMD, Zambia, ?CNMC-CSU Demonstration Base of Biohydrometallurgy Technology in Zambia? was launched and several biohydrometallurgy plants are being constructed. This indicates that the biohdyrometallurgy technology would be applied soon in Zambia and in the whole Africa. Biohydrometallurgy technology stands as an efficient alternative to the traditional pyrometallurgy process and it can be the key to unlock mineral resources value. "In view of the present situation that the traditional environment friendly depressants for galena aren’t very effective in the separation of mixed concentrate including copper sulfide and lead sulfide, this research describes a new environment friendly depressant PD-1 and investigates its effects and mechanism in the separation of chalcopyrite and galena. This study is carried out through flotation tests, analysis of infrared spectra and absorption measurements. It is shown that when O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (Z200) is used as collector, chalcopyrite and galena can be separated in the presence of PD-1 under appropriate conditions. Therefore, it can be concluded that PD-1 has an excellent depression ability and great selectivity for galena. Meanwhile, analysis of infrared spectra demonstrates that PD-1 can strongly absorb on the galena surface by chemical interaction with Pb2+, while it hardly absorbs on the chalcopyrite surface. In addition, the results of absorption measurements reveal that competitive adsorption occurs on the galena surface between PD-1 and Z200, PD-1 can block the absorption of Z200 on the galena surface. However, PD-1 has a little effect on the absorption of Z200 on the chalcopyrite surface under above conditions. What’s more, the hydrophilic groups of PD-1 molecules can make galena effectively depressed. The results of mechanism analysis are in accordance with those of flotation tests.INTRODUCTION In the processing of copper-lead sulfide ores, the process, copper increase and lead reduction (Zhang et al., 2017) after reagents removal of rough concentrate produced by mixed flotation of chalcopyrite and galena, is usually adopted. However, as a result of tight symbiosis and the similar flotability of chalcopyrite and galena, the separation is difficult (Hu and Feng, 2006). There are 3 kinds of depressants for galena in the separation of chalcopyrite and galena concentrate,including dichromate, sulfite and combined depressants of organic or inorganic reagents (Wei, 2012). As dichromate would cause serious environmental pollution, it is gradually banned to be used in industry (Xu et al., 2017; Lin et al., 2017). what’s more, due to the need of acidic slurry, using sulfite is not conductive to the maintenance of equipment and stable production(Wang, 1999). As for the combined depressants, they also have disadvantages of complex pharmaceutical system and no ideal separation effect (Wei and Sun, 2008). Therefore, the development of new safe and effective depressants for galena is a research focus for researchers in the minerals processing (Chen, 2000). In this paper, a new type of organic depressant PD-1 is applied to the copper-lead separation process of ""copper increase and lead reduction"" using Z200 as the collector. In addition, the performances and mechanism of its depression to galena are studied emphatically."

Vanadium-beard bone coal is one of important vanadium resources in China.To extract vanadium tailings from Stone coal is produced after extracted vanadium from stone coal through the roasting, leaching and other processes. About 120-150 tons of tailings will be produced in extracting 1 ton of vanadium pentoxide. A lot of tailings that are willfully piled up have caused serious environmental pollution and wasting of resources; it is therefore necessary to realize its resource utilization. This study increases the activity of vanadium tailings by means of alkali fusion, and then uses different alkali activators to react with vanadium tailings so that geopolymer with high value added is produced. Sample of geopolymer is acquired from a mixture containing vanadium tailings, alkali activators, water and a little sodium aluminate through compression-molding process under 20MPa pressure. After cured in room temperature for three days, the maximum compressive strength of the sample can reach 36.2MPa. XRD analysis indicates quartz, the major crystal phase in vanadium tailings is decomposed,and the activity of vanadium tailings is heightened. FTIR and SEM analyses show: structural change having an important impact on the mechanical strength of geopolymer occurred during the process of vanadium tailings generating geopolymer.

"Recently, in order to extract metals, the industry is trying to process old metallurgical slag. The material requires very fine grinding that results in enhanced slime-formation. This in turn leads to problems in the course of the flotation process and to a loss of metal. In addition, it causes difficulties in the wastewater treatment aimed at water reuse. The aggregation and separation of the fine particles and their further subjecting to mineral processing would result in more efficient use of raw materials. Closing the water cycle also would be facilitated. The paper presents results from studying sixteen flocculation reagents, commercially available for treating municipal wastewater, including products based on nanotechnology, for their ability to rend the production wastewater in suitable for reuse in the flotation. It turned out that, from all studied reagents, the cationic C-587 is suitable for the purpose. Some of reagents were studied for their ability to flocculate selectively, in presence of coke fines, rich in copper fines which are produced at grinding of a slag from lead-zinc metallurgy. Most promising reagents are chosen, based on the chemical analysis of the flocculated materials. Open-cycle rough copper flotation experiments with the flocculated fines and recycled wastewater gave encouraging results."

It is now well known that the size distribution of the particulate solid has a significant effect on the breakage behavior of particles in the wet as well as dry modes of ball milling operation. In the context of the size discretized batch grinding kinetic model, grinding behavior of particles is characterized by the breakage rate parameters, k, and breakage distribution parameters, B. Understanding the nature of variation of these two sets of parameters with particle size distribution is important for simulation and control of operation of production mills. However, so far it has not been possible to track the variation of both the set of parameters with grinding time simultaneously. In this paper an attempt has been made in this direction by using a modified functional form approach with time dependent constants. The criteria for designing a crushing chamber are presented and a program for designing the shape of the chamber is proposed. During the chamber shape design, major design parameters are analyzed first, optimized parameters are determined next and the basic shape of chamber is figured out finally. In the basic chamber design program, the influence of abrasion of basic chamber shape and material characteristic are not accounted for usually. Here, based on the minimum abrasion of chamber shape and uniform particle size theory, the equation for chamber surface curve and the transcending function were formulated and a low-abrasion chamber was designed. Since the chamber shape designed based on experience and experiments is not necessarily the best, optimal design of the crushing chamber shape was carried out. Cubic spline function was used to represent the chamber shape curve and a mathematical model was formulated. The optimal shape solution was obtained using a complex method. Finally, the optimal chamber shape was determined by matching the moving cone stroke S, moving cone speed N and the moving cone bottom angle Thus, superior technical performance of the cone chamber was achieved.

"With the increasing popularity of lithium cobalt oxide in lithium ion battery industry, which is driven by new energy vehicle and mobile device applications, the demand of cobalt is also growing rapidly in recent years. There is a significant trend of increasing investment on cobalt capacity in China, and the automation renovation is considered as an option of improving production efficiency. This study aimed at evaluating the practicability of stainless permanent cathode blank and automatic stripping process in cobalt electrowinning process. The purpose is to replace the old starter sheet process in cobalt electrowinning, which so far was used by most of cobalt refineries in China, but very labor intensive and exposed operators to serious aerosols that contained both cobalt and acid. In the old starter sheet process, the initial cobalt starter sheet is produced onto a plate made of titanium, while the titanium cathode blank and hanger bar fit the critical corrosive environment but is lack of mechanical strength for automatic production which has been mature in copper electrowinning process. To evaluate the proper materials instead of titanium, the coupon corrosion tests with different raw materials including 316L and other stainless steel grades were held for several months in production environment at a cobalt tank house in China. Following the comparison between titanium and other tested materials, a pilot production test in a cobalt tank house is also on-going.INTRODUCTION Cobalt has been known in early China and used in pottery glazes, and the ancient Greeks and Romans used its compounds to make colored glass since long time ago. The blue on the colored porcelain from the Tang Dynasty in China was also due to the presence of cobalt compounds. The word cobalt is known being derived from the German kobalt, from kobold meaning ""goblin"", because the cobalt-bearing blue ore, CoAsS, was called kobaltin in Europe in the Middle Ages, it may have been thought to be harmful to the health of the miners because of arsenic in the ores."

The coal bottom ash generated from coal-fired power plant accounted for approximately 5 mil-lion tons in Korea. Almost all of coal bottom ash was treated as reclamation of the landfill because of the content of unburned carbon. For recycling of coal bottom ash, effective removal of that is required. So, in this study, the removal of unburned carbon by flotation was studied with respect to adsorption ability in surface of a bubble in order to consider its application to recycle the coal bottom ash. The sample A, B and C were that the coal bottom ash contained 2.73%, 7.01% and 10.49% of the unburned carbon (UC) respectively. The column flotation was carried out for each time as the artificial injection of air at 10.0L/min flow rate and the reagents of 500g/ton kerosene and 80g/ton MIBC were used. The samples per water of 1.3 liters were from 0.5% to 4% (w/w.%). In the result of this study, the kinetic curves of unburned carbon adsorption from injected air bubbles were in-creased rapidly as equilibrium was approached; only 5 sec was needed from the sample A and B and 10 sec was from sample C. And the equilibrium isotherms of unburned carbon adsorbed by the infected air bubble from the sample B and C could appear the BET adsorption isotherm; MT = KMEEO/(EO-E)[EO+(K-1)E](K: adsorption affinity), but not the sample A that was not enough to express the adsorption curve.

Cenospheres is a sandlike hollow sphere component of the fly ash that is collected in coal-burning electric power generating plants. Metal coated particles have been widely used in industries. Magnetron sputtering method which was used to coat copper film on the surface of the cenospheres is a widely used coating technique in large surface metal coating. A newly designed equipment is used to make the fine particle coating can be carried out because the fine particle is hard to disperse and it must make the particle keep moving to let every direction of the particle be coated. The copper film coated is compact, smooth, even and without uncoated spots under the optical microscopy and SEM. The film has good affinity to the cenosphere surface. The film does not separate with cenoshpere surface even when the cenosphere is crushed. The XRD, SEM, XPS, SPM was used to study the copper film characteristic. It is shown that using this newly designed magnetic sputtering equipment can coat high quality copper nanofilm on the cenoshpere surface.

The kinetics of hydrochemical oxidation of antimonite in solutions of nitric acid was studied using the rotating disk method and the factor experiment design. The dependences of the antimonite?s oxidation rate on concentration of nitric acid solutions, temperature, disk rotation frequency, and duration of interaction were determined. The adequate kinetic models allowing calculating the specific oxidation rate at any combination of the values of the influencing factors were obtained. The oxidation process is found to proceed in a mixed mode, close to chemically controlled. Gradually, as the sediments of elemental sulphur and Sb2O5 accumulate on the disk surface, the process becomes controlled by internal diffusion. The observed high (more than second) order of the oxidation rate with respect to the concentration of nitric acid was explained by the autocatalytic action of the acid reduction products. The apparent activation energy depends on the stage of interaction. At the initial stage (in a mixed mode of the process proceeding), it depends on nitric acid concentration and varies from 31.5 kJ?mol?1 (in 2 M HNO3) to 36.1 kJ?mol?1 (in 10 M HNO3). This trend indicates the weakening of diffusion limitations with a nitric acid concentration increase. When the process is controlled by internal diffusion, the apparent activation energy was found to be 14.5 kJ?mol?1. The obtained kinetic characteristics enlarge the database on hydrochemical oxidation kinetics of sulphides and can be used for the elaboration of the recommendations for the effective comprehensive exploitation of antimony-bearing ores and concentrates.

One of the most significant behaviour of a crushing plant is the constant variation in the process. The variation is caused by two major effects. The first and constantly changing is the rock material properties. During operation rock material with different strength and particle size distribution is fed to the plant which makes the performance of the equipment to vary. The second and more slowly changing variation is caused by wear on the processing equipment. These effects must be predicted in order to be able to optimise a crushing plant. This paper demonstrates how Monte Carlo simulation can be utilised to study and operate crush-ing plants. By introducing Monte Carlo simulation the varying process can be study and also optimised. To maintain the optimised process performance supervision is needed. This paper demonstrates how results from the Monte Carlo simulation can be utilised for process supervision. Charts for process measurements can for example be derived. These can then be used to guide decision making and understand how the variation and performance of the plant changes over time.

"This paper presents the performance of the flotation circuit of Minera Fresnillo PLC, Mexico. A plant survey was carried out on the lead banks and a size-by-size assay on the samples was conducted. The results indicate that the plant is treating fine particles in the flotation circuit. At least 30% of the particles in the feed are finer than 8 microns and that high amounts of Pb, Au, Ag and insolubles are in this particle size. It was also found that higher percentage of insolubles in the -8 micron particles are recovered in the final concentrate rather than being rejected in the tails. The presence of high amounts of insolubles in the concentrate is an issue of the company. The result of the plant survey provided valuable information for effective reduction of the insolubles in the concentrate and for plant optimization. The work conducted is part of the training of the students involved in a mine placement in the Alban Lynch Student Venture. INTRODUCTION Minera Fresnillo is one of the operating mines and the main contributor to the silver production of Fresnillo PLC group, the world’s leading producer of silver from ore. It is located in the mining district of Zacatecaz, Mexico, approximately 650 kilometers from Mexico City. The major minerals that make up the ore are galena, sphalerite, tetrahedrite, pyrargyrite, proustite, polybasite, pyrite and pyrrhotite. Minera Fresnillo has a capacity to treat 8300 tonnes of ore per day. The plant consists of semi-autogenous mill - ball mill – hydrocyclone circuit for primary grinding followed by silver-lead flotation then zinc flotation circuits. This paper reports the plant audit conducted in the silver-lead flotation circuit (Figure 1) of Minera Fresnillo. The circuit includes rougher, scavenger and two stages of cleaning. The tails from the scavenger goes to the zinc flotation circuit while the second cleaner yields the final silver-lead concentrate. The feed to the circuit has a particle size of 90% finer than 75 microns and generates a concentrate with grade of about 35% Pb, 5700 g/ton Ag, 16 g/ton Au and recoveries of 90% Pb, 90% Ag, 64% Au, respectively. Although the plant achieves their target concentrate grade and recovery, the concentrate also contains significant amount of insoluble materials which is about 18%. These insoluble materials consist of gangue minerals. The plant audit was conducted primarily to determine the possibility of further reducing the amount of insoluble materials present in the silver-lead concentrate."

In the Bayer process, control of alumina trihydrate particle size, oxalate stability and morphology and foaming is crucial for improving the yield and quality of alumina trihydrate. One way to economically achieve such control is to employ specifically developed chemical additives, termed, crystal growth modifiers (CGM?s). In this paper, the mechanism of action and practical application of CGM?s in the Bayer process are summarized. The application of CGM additives allows for both enhanced agglomeration and secondary nucleation control, and hence coarsening of the particles. Current research efforts have utilized the information gained from mechanistic studies to enhance the performance of CGM products. It was demonstrated in both laboratory tests and industrial operations that the newly developed CGM formulations have a range of properties with enhanced performance, compared to the current commercial products.

"Test work was carried out using copper gold-bearing flotation concentrate with 6.85%Cu, 14.30%Fe, 20.70%S and 2.34%As. Gold and silver grade in the concentrate is 54.6 g/t and 92 g/t, respectively. Gold and copper are valuable components in the concentrate. Gold is partially associated with pyrite and fahlores. Copper in the concentrate can be found as tennantite (Cu12As4S13). The 71% of gold from the flotation concentrate is recoverable by cyanidation with simultaneous cyanide consumption in the amount of 96 kg/t. The major reason of refractoriness is that gold is fine encapsulated into sulfides and the presence of cyanicide-copper. The concentrate ground as much as 95% minus 10 µm was treated using low-temperature POX at the temperature of 100±5°C, L:S ratio of 5:1 and the process time of 1-5 hours. Residual sulfide sulfur in the cake is 2.28% which is 89% sulfide oxidation. The highest copper recovery to POX solution is 91%. It was found that gold recovery to cyanide solution is 85-94% during alkaline pre-treatment of POX cakes followed by cyanidation. In this case, cyanide and lime consumption is 75-90 kg/t and 120 kg/t, respectively. In order to recover precious metals from POX cakes leaching using sodium sulfite was carried out. Test work was conducted at varied reagent concentration, L:S ratio and leaching time. Gold and silver recovery achieved was 85-95% and 59-63%, respectively."

"China is rich in low-rank coals that account for 45.68% of existing coal reserves in China. The clean and efficient utilization of low rank coals is of great significance for ensuring the effective energy supply and promoting economic development and environmental protection. In order to solve the difficult problem in flotation of low rank coal, it has become the focus of research in the related field that oily bubbles instead of air bubbles are taken as a carrier in flotation to improve the attachment efficiency and recovery of low rank coal. In this paper, low rank coal slime collected from Shendong mining area was used as the experimental material, and it focused on the characteristics of oily-bubble flotation process of low rank coal. Additionally, difference in conventional flotation and oily-bubble flotation was discussed. The induction time between air bubbles, oily-bubbles and fine low rank coal particles was measured. The results indicated that the induction time between oily-bubbles and coal particles was obviously lower than that of air bubbles. By comparing the foam height of air and oily bubbles, it was found that the amount of oily bubbles is less than air bubbles, causing relative low flotation rate of oily-bubble flotation at initial stage. Besides, the maximum foam height and half-life of air bubbles and oily-bubbles were measured respectively. The results showed that the stability of oily-bubbles was higher than that of air bubbles, which is benefit for the enrichment of concentrates. The clean coal water recovery of oily-bubble flotation is lower than that of air bubble flotation, which indicated oily-bubble flotation is lower in water entrainment. INTRODUCTION China is the largest energy consumer in the world, accounting for 23% of global energy consumption in 2016 and 27% of global energy consumption growth. Whereas coal is taken as the major primary energy source and its share of China’s primary energy consumption is 62% in 2016, in which the low rank coals, such as lignite, long-flame coal, weakly caking coal, and non-caking coal, accounted for about 50% of total coal production capacity (China’s energy market in 2016, BP). Moreover, the exploitation and utilization of low rank coals and other coals that are difficult to float have been an important strategy for China’s sustainable development of the coal industry (Liu et al., 2014). However, the combustion of low-quality coals leads to a serious environmental pollution. In addition, the deterioration in geological conditions of coal resources, and the increasing improvement in the mechanization for mining significantly caused the increased amount of fine coal."

The utilization of acid leaching tailings was studied. It is obvious that the Fe in acid leaching tailings can be leached into solutions as Fe2+. In this paper, the influence of conditions, including the concentration of ferrous sulfate, pH, temperature and velocity of air flow was investigated. The optimum conditions for preparing seed crystal are as follows: the concentration of ferrous sulfate is 20 g/L; pH is 9.5~10; reaction temperature is 10~20?; velocity of air flow is 0.4m3/h. The optimum conditions for preparing iron oxide red are as follows: the concentration of ferrous sulfate is 5 g/L; reaction temperature is 80~85?; velocity of air flow is 0.13m3/h. At last, the product of iron oxide red could be prepared by ammonia method.
