"Mining processing plants are the most high-performing industrial enterprises in the world economy system. Even at an average-scale mining enterprise, the grain-size separation equipment continuously processes 105 to 106 dissimilar mineral particles per hour. In separation by physical properties, their number increases by at least 10 to 50 times. Mathematical modeling of such a high flow of discrete particles is carried out using two different approaches: the discrete-particle and the phenomenological methods. The calculations demonstrate the possibility of handling big data when describing the processes of separation of granular material. INTRODUCTION The interest to the screening process and the process of formation of new screen designs in Mekhanobr is traditional since the moment of its foundation. It is symbolical that the first publication of the Mekhanobr proceedings in 1924 was the monograph dedicated to screens and screening products as such, which was the first one in the world at that moment. It was a book of Prof. L. B. Levenson, one of the founders of Mekhanobr, who headed the Technical Bureau of the Institute. Vibratory screening is the most mass process in the technologies of solid minerals processing, which determines significantly the energy demands of crushing and grinding cycles, and at some enterprises determines the quality of the final product, for example in case of crushed stone, coal or abrasive materials production. The general understanding and simulation of the process of poly-dispersed granular materials vibratory screening was developed at several conceptual levels taking into account the features of classification of materials with different size and density.Considering the real industrial processes of vibration screening, it shall be noted that at the sieve surface of the screen in the initial part of the deck the classification in a thick material layer (in natural conditions) occurs, which further transfers to a thin layer (free movement). In the process of screening of light minerals, for example coal or metallurgic feedstock, screening is mainly performed in the thick layer."

"In order to improve recovery efficiency of iron minerals from iron ore tailings and to reduce its connected environmental pollution, this article investigated the reducing roasting of iron ore tailing in a laboratory fluidized magnetization roasting reactor to optimize the roasting method and conditions. The examined parameters included roasting temperature, roasting time and reducing atmosphere. The parameters evaluating magnetizing roast efficiency and theoretical value were determined. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was used to investigate the conversion of iron phase after roasting. The results show that the best magnetizing roast conditions are roasting temperature of 540?, holding time of 15min, and CO concentration of 20%. The magnetization conversion ratio of roasting products is over 80%, under the best magnetic separation condition, the concentrate grade of iron is 65.61 % and the recovery of iron is 83.77 %. The XRD analysis shows that Fe exists in hematite and siderite before roasting and exists in magnetite after roasting. The technique not only recovers the iron minerals from tailings with good economic benefit, but also reduces the environmental pollution of tailings accumulation.INTRODUCTION Iron ore tailings are the solid wastes generated during the beneficiation process of iron ore concentration and are one of the main pollution concerns in the mining industry (Das et al., 1996). Continuous development of the iron and steel industry has led to the increasing amount of iron ore tailings; there are over 300 million tons of iron ore tailings discharged per year (Rao et al., 2016). The huge amount of stockpiled iron ore tailings brings a series of environmental and social problems. Comprehensive utilization of iron ore tailings can not only reduce environmental load but also conserve resources, promoting sustainable development of the society. In recent years, iron ore tailings as secondary resources have received considerable attention in many countries in the word and numbers of studies on utilization of iron ore tailings were carried out, such as recycling the valuable minerals (Datta et al., 1996; Jia et al., 2013; Panda et al., 2018), used in construction material compositions as alternative source of raw materials (Das et al., 2012; Zhou et al., 2012; Luo et al., 2016) and other utilization. The iron minerals were recovery by magnetization roasting (Rao et al., 2016; Yang et al., 2013; Yang et al., 2011) and flotation (Kumar and Mandre, 2016). By comparison the reduction roasting has more advantages, but it was found that the conventional roasting equipment was inefficient, high energy consumption and un-economically applied on an industrial-scale."

The paper elaborates on the significance of producing ultra-low-moisture ore concentrate, the operating principle and technical features of thermocompression- filtration process, the kinetics involved in the dewatering process, and the technological process system and equipment used. It is pointed out that it is possible to reduce the moisture of fine ore concentrate to a minimum. By way of example, the case of the treatment of flotation molybdenum (Mo) using the thermocompression- filtration process is cited.

Calaverite is a gold telluride found in the Kalgoorlie region, Fiji, Cripple Creek Colorado and numerous other locations. It is known that a high pH is necessary for calaverite cyanidation, with the leach rate increasing substantially above pH 12 due to the hydroxide ion concentration. In most circumstances lime is used to achieve high pH, however lime saturates at approximately pH 12, limiting the maximum pH obtainable in a critical region for calaverite leaching. Plant observations, laboratory experiments and thermodynamic modelling show that the maxi-mum hydroxide ion concentration that can be achieved with lime (CaO) is strongly dependent on common ions. The presence of calcium, as commonly found in saline waters, substantially diminishes the maximum pH that can be obtained with lime. Conversely the presence of sulfate ions, as generated through oxidation of sulfides, substantially increases the maximum pH that can be achieved with lime. Sulfide oxidation during cyanide leaching of complex ores may generate acid and sulfate ions, making overdosing with lime at the front of the circuit, or staged addition down the leach train, important to maintaining the maximum hydroxide concentration.

Huge quantity of copper is lost in Crown, Sill, Rib Pillars, hanging wall, foot wall and unexploited ore bodies in several closed underground copper mines and old worked out stopes of Hindustan Copper Limited at Mosaboni and other places. These mines might have been uneconomical to work with conventional mining methods. However, huge quantity of mineral reserves is lost due to their closure. Chemical and in-situ bio-wash leaching, if tried can provide an answer to facilitate the recovery of metallic values economically. Encouraging results were obtained during an experiment at North Badia Mines at Mosabani in the past. Though the experiments were not completed but whatever results obtained were very encouraging and can be successfully tried to make it viable. The results of the experiments are discussed here and a plan is suggested to recover copper from such mines.

This investigation addressed two products from Samarco?s desliming circuit, namely underflow of cleaning cyclones and underflow of desliming cyclones. The roughing cyclones receive the product of the grinding circuit. The underflow of the roughing cyclones feeds the cleaning cyclones and the overflow feeds the desliming cyclones. The underflows of cleaning and roughing cyclones are combined to constitute the feed of the flotation circuit. These fractions were characterized and a new process route was proposed. The size distributions of the two fractions are quite different. The desliming cyclones underflow presents higher amount of material passing 37 µm and of ultrafines as compared with the cleaning cyclones underflow. Laboratory scale flotation tests were performed in a mechanical machine aiming at comparing the performances of these products in the presence of the reagents employed in the concentrator. Pi-lot scale column flotation yielded enhanced iron recoveries for both products in comparison with those achieved in laboratory mechanical cells, without impairing the concentrate quality. The in-crease in recovery was more significant in the case of the cleaning cyclones underflow. These results suggest the use of columns in the flotation of this product aiming at increasing the overall iron recovery. Nevertheless the results also showed that the use of columns to float the cleaning cyclones underflow should also be taken into consideration. Despite the fact that this product requires a longer residence time in order that the required silica content in the concentrate is achieved, the indication is that higher levels of iron recoveries might be reached. The conclusion is that, due to the different behaviors of the two products, they should be processed in distinct circuits to maximize the iron recovery.

We studied the feasibility of automated mineralogy to discriminate between tennantite and enargite, the main sulfosalts found in the Rio Blanco deposit, Codelco-Chile, in order to predict the content of minor elements (As, Sb, Ag, Pb, Zn) that impact on the process and concentrate prices. The identification of these minerals is feasible using traditional microscopy, however not possible by automated mineralogy. This drawback prevents comparing the databases generated in the past by means of conventional microscopy with the information obtained at present by QEMSCAN. To differentiate enargite from tennantite the mineral composition of both sulfosalts was studied by electron microprobe. The presence of associated minor element contents of about 8% zinc in tennantites and not exceeding 0.07% in enargites were used to modify the SIP database of QEMSCAN to enable the quantification of these phases in samples of head, residue and concentrate coming from As-bearing domains of the deposits. Detection limits allowed to determine the mineral species in the head, concentrate and residues. The integration of methodologies such as automated mineralogy and microprobe can be used successfully to quantify the presence of some ore forming solid solution.

"Current status of question about grinding stage effect to electrochemistry parameters of operation preparation slurry before intermediate selective flotation was assessed in the present scientific work. Needs of more detail study chemical reactions in the slurry preparation and flotation processes were shown. The ores are polymetallic sulphide type and the one are most difficult for mineral processing. The methodology allows increase information base during floatation tests. Ionometric methods and elements of neural network have been used in the study of mineral processing questions.We have also identified the relationship between the received values of the electrochemical parameters and the technological results in selective flotation. The optimal values of the electrochemistry parameters in operation of the preparation slurry before selective flotation has been found. The main effect of using the proposed methodology is to obtain scientifically based solutions to improve the technology parameters of flotation polymetallic sulfide ores. Challenging issue of selectivity of sulphide-polymetallic ores will be considered using case study of sulphidepolymetallic ores. It was shown that several factors are formed in ore grinding: formation of hydroxyl oxides of iron compounds, copper cation leaching, metal-sulphide and metal-sulphite complexes formation. The chemistry was revealed for current processes in slurry preparation operation before selective flotation. Quantitative assessment of interrelations between electrochemical parameters of slurry and process performance was given with using electrochemical control methods. Neuron network-based model was estimated based on data array and was allowed to establish optimum electrochemical conditions of metal-sulphite complex formation to provide maximum efficiency of selective flotation.INTRODUCTIONPhysical and chemical processes that take place in ore grinding have a significant impact on flotation selectivity and can cause low selectivity of the flotation process. "Presently the global commodity situation for non ferrous-, precious- and rare metals is characterized by a strong increase in consumption and a simultaneous shortage of materials derived from primary sources. So the use of secondary raw materials gains is important due to economic and ecological reasons. Non Ferrous-, precious- and rare earth metals were detected in household waste (Municipal solid waste, MSW) for years. In MSW-treatments plants NF-metals are actually mostly separated from dried fractions. The separation of these metals is carried out with the aim of removing particles which disrupt further processing. A selective enrichment of individual non-ferrous metals has not been carried out previously. The separated fractions contain mixtures of Al, Cu, Zn, Pb, Sn, alloys, precious metals (e. g. Au, Ag, Pt) and rare metals (Ga, In, Nd etc.) along with considerable amounts of contaminations. The R&D project "NE-Rec" selectively processes the coarsely separated non-ferrous-metal-conglomerates increasing the concentration of targeted metals. Metals and metal mixtures are concentrated by sorting steps and the impurities are discharged from the process. Still contaminated precious metals are then subjected to a wet-chemical treatment. So metals can be specifically brought into solution or can be precipitated to separate unwanted components (inerts, polymers, foreign metals). Further the relevant metals will be concentrated by thermal-metallurgical processes. The technology, developed in the R&D project, enables identification, separation and processing of non-ferrous metals, precious metals and REM in household waste and transfers them into further processable individual fractions."

The iron ore from Yichang in China assaying 41.64% Fe and 1.02% P is a low grade and high phosphorus oolitic hematite ore. The separation of iron minerals from gangue minerals in the ore by conventional processing techniques is ineffective owing to their close similar properties. The modification of iron minerals by microwave-assisted reduction was investigated in order to improve separability of the ore. The effects of microwave-assisted reduction on the subsequent low intensity magnetic separation and floatation were examined. The results show that the main factors affecting the reduction and separation process are grinding size, reduction temperature and reductant. Fine grinding of the microwave-treated ore to smaller than 0.074mm was found to be imperative due to the tiny dissemination characteristics of iron oxide minerals. After magnetizing reduction by microwave heating at 500?, the magnetic concentrate containing 58.36% Fe and 0.67% P can be obtained with the Fe recovery of 91.28%. Magnetizing reduction drops the floatability of iron oxide minerals, thus reverse flotation is fit for upgrading the magnetic concentrate to contain 62.13% Fe and 0.21% P with Fe recovery of 81.59%. Compared with present microwave-assisted reduction technique of carbon reductant, using a waste iron powder as reductant is a novel and effective technique without the green house effect caused by the release of CO and CO2. Waste iron powder with a faster response to microwave heating then coke and charcoal can be recovered by magnetic separation in a low cost and plays the role of reductant and microwave heating accelerator.

"Steam Pressure Filtration (SPF) is a modified cake filtration process and is characterized by both washing and excellent de-watering of the filter cake. Compared to conventional gas differential pressure filtration, the filter cake is treated with saturated or superheated steam replacing pressurized air. Invented in the early last century, Steam Pressure Filtration has reached technical maturity in the 1990ies for inorganic particle systems, fine chemicals and coal. Especially the de-watering performance for fine particles systems below 50 µm make Steam Pressure Filtration an excellent option for the processing of fine tailings streams, to produce a stable material, which can be described by the methods of solids mechanics instead of paste rheology. The washing, which is due to the condensing steam, is able to reduce the ion load of the solid. This additional effect is able to generate a dry tailings material, which shows a reduced leaching potential of mobile ions, which originally derive from the process water. INTRODUCTION Steam Pressure Filtration is a process concept especially of hyperbaric filtration, which started its market entry in the 1990ies (Bott 1996, Bott 2002). Even though there have been many attempts to apply steam on filters before, the success story began with the combination of hyperbaric filtration and steam application and the technical solution to limit the steam treatment to a defined zone on the filter. This resulted from the scientific findings that steam mainly enhances the de-watering during the mechanical filtration (Gerl 1999). There are no or minor positive effects of steam application to a filtration process during cake filtration and after the steam breakthrough has occurred. Furthermore that time a sufficient control technology to regulate the steam consumption as well as suitable filter cloths became available. There is a growing need for de-watering technology in the mining industry, not only for the concentrate but also for the tailings streams. Several reasons argue against the established solution of damping the tails as suspension or paste into tailings ponds. There are ecological, political, societal and economic reasons, which question the tailings ponds more and more. Due to the increasing costs in the building and monitoring of tailings dams, which contain the tailing ponds, the concept of dry stocking using filtration technology comes into the game (Jansson 2016). Dry stocking converts the tailings stream form the suspension or paste state, into a material, which can be stockpiled. The latter typically is a moist flowable disperse particle system. The conversion involves a de-watering step, in which different types of filter equipment can be used, e.g. filter presses, membrane filter presses, automatic press filters or hyperbaric filters. For coarse products also vacuum filter can be applied. Due to its excellent de-watering performance and the easy scale-up properties Steam Pressure Filtration is further option for dry tailings stacking."

Beach Placer Ilmenite is an important source for production of titanium metal, titania slag and pigment grade titanium dioxide. Besides, these well known applications for which Ilmenite is mined and processed, there are other emerging processes that are being tried for obtaining highvalue products. Synthesis of Ilmenite based materials for varistor applications and direct electrochemical reduction of Ilmenite to produce ferrotitanium are two such attempts being discussed in this work. In this paper, recent efforts undertaken to study the electrical and magnetic characteristics are discussed. Ilmenite, FeTiO3, is one of the mixed-valence transition metalbearing minerals, inwhich Fe can be in two different oxidation states, Fe2+ and Fe3+.. Similarly, Ti can be in Ti3+ and Ti4+.Ilmenite is inherently suitable for making Varistors, which are devices, used for limiting the transient voltage surges in a circuit. Varistors produced from Ilmenite can withstand harsh environments seen in nuclear reactors and outerspace. Electrochemical reduction of Ilmenite can be used to prepare ferrotitanium directly without any reductant. The process essentially involves removal of oxygen from the mineral through electrolytic action using calcium chloride as electrolyte and graphite as anode. At a temperature of 950°C, it is shown to be possible that all the oxygen can be removed from the Ilmenite sample, which passes through the electrolyte, to form CO/CO2 at the anode. The process has immense potential for cost effective production of titanium metal as well. Results of the above developmental works are presented in this paper. "Dry coal dressing was popular during the 1950.s and 60.s in many parts of the world. The devices mainly used were air jigs and air tables.The increase in ash and moisture content of run-of-mine coals due to the wide advanced mechanisation of mining mechanisation during and after this period led to that pneumatic devices being unable to treat run-of-mine coals with the desired efficiency. Since the 1960.s almost all new coal preparation plants have been based on wet processes that are highly efficient in terms of coal recovery and their ability to handle damp and sticky run-of-mine coals. (Frankland, 1995)However, water is becoming increasingly costly and the disposal of fine products, containing most of the water, is an environmental concern. There would be significant cost savings and a lower total energy consumption if coal could be cleaned dry. Efficient dry coal treatment would be an interesting solution in desert, arid or cold areas.In Germany one dry coal dressing plant is in operation. The process and the advantages and disadvantages are presented below.Further on new developments in the field of dry density separation of coal are reviewed and analysed. Test results of new dry coal separation methods e.g. new developed air jig and magnetic separator are reported."

"IsaMill™ has been in operation in the recent past for fine grinding of low grade ores to extract non-ferrous minerals. IsaMill™, typically, consists of a series of uniformly spaced identical disks mounted on a rotating shaft which is encased in an outer shell. The mill offers high energy efficiency for fine grinding and an inherent scalability. But, it encounters certain operational challenges such as non-uniform distribution of grinding media coupled with high wear rate of the disks and solid walls of the mill at specific locations—which adversely affect the mill performance. To circumvent these operational challenges, design modification of the disks through heuristics, by introducing a reduced diameter disk (RDD) at specific locations, is a common practice in industry. But there is no systematic scientific study in this regard. In the current work, we developed a discrete element method (DEM) based model and simulated for the IsaMill™ operation to study the effect of RDD on the efficiency of the mill and wear rate of the solid walls and disks. Since the first set of disks experience the high wear rate due to the high loading of the charge, the RDD was introduced at the first two disks. The simulations were performed at different diameters of the RDDs and at different media loadings. The performance of the mill was analyzed based on the power consumption, the wear rate on disks and the distribution of media particles inside the mill. Besides, the performance variables such as mean velocity of media particles and total impact energy provided useful insights into the milling operation. It was observed that the reduction in disk diameter yields lower wear rate of the disks at the cost of decrease in power draw at a constant high media loading. Whereas, when the media loading was decreased, the amount of wear and power drawn was comparable for both the most reduced and least reduced disk diameters. Therefore, there is an optimum choice of RDD for a given mill loading to maximize the mill performance while reducing the wear rate of the disks."

Impeller speed and air flow rate are two influence parameters on coarse particles flotation and collision and attachment angles. So, in this research recovery of quartz particles at four diameter classes carried out and collision and attachment angles investigated. It is found that maximum flotation response was observed at Impeller speed of 1100 rpm and 15 L/h air flow rate. For either more quiescent (Impeller speed<1100 rpm) or more turbulent conditions, flotation recovery decreased steadily. Furthermore, amount of attachment probabilities is calculated using suitable equation. According to this study, with decreasing particle size, air flow rate and impeller speed, probability of attachment increased and with increasing contact angle, probability of attachment increased. For various air flow rates, impeller speed and particle size, collision angle has been calculated. Maximum collision angle obtained at with 15 L/h air flow rate, particle size of 256 µm and impeller speed of 700 rpm and minimum collision angle obtained at with 45 L/h air flow rate, particle size of 545µm and impeller speed of 1300 rpm. "In recent years, metal producing companies have increased their investment in automation and technological innovation, embracing new opportunities to enable transformational change. Internet of Things (IoT) is one of many transformational initiatives, which can fundamentally revolutionize how industrial complexes operate. Whatever the issue, the answer is in the abundant and growing quantity of real time data and events collected in the grinding and flotation circuits in a mineral processing plant. Based on earlier work, today a grade recovery model permits identifying the best operating conditions in real time. We will review the strategy for increasing the value of the abundance instrumentation in current plants. An optimal Gaudin size distribution model provides augmented information from traditional sensors to find the optimal grind cut to reduce metal losses in the flotation circuits. The large amount of sensors in a flotation circuits permits to estimate the recovery and to find the optimal froth depth and aeration using an air holdup flotation model. The paper will describe the strategy of classifying data for on line generation of insights to using operational intelligence tools. We will discuss the implementation Recovery/Grind strategy with industrial examples in non-ferrous mineral processing and iron beneficiation.INTRODUCTIONThe declining supplies of high grade ores and increasing consumption of mineral and metal products have demanded higher operational efficiencies with minimum capital investments. The objective of copper flotation objectives are based on maximizing the dollars return on the concentrate produced. The economic efficiency is maximized by manipulating the circuit along the grade/recovery curve relationship. To achieve such objective improved stabilization of the grinding and flotation circuits are required (Oosthuizen, Craig, and Jamsa-Jounela, 2017)."

"There are a variety of methods suitable to analyse elemental and mineralogical contents of rock drill core samples. Current demands are on fast exploration and objective analysis of ore samples. This paper proposes a combination of Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) and image processing, entitled LIF-imaging, as a potential method for automated mineral analysis of the drill core samples. It is shown that LIF-imaging can produce a mineral map of the fluorescent minerals existing on the surface of the drill core samples. The test cases are drill core samples from a Ni-Cu mine situated in Kevitsa, Finland. The main prerequisite of LIF-imaging technique is a reference data, linking colours to the minerals. This study describes the calibration of LIF-imaging technique using precise but slow Raman spectroscopy. Using regularized logistic regression, a model is obtained that classifies the minerals based on their emitted fluorescent colours in the digital images. The abundance of each mineral group is estimated by pixel counting. The results are compared with X-Ray Diffraction laboratory assays performed on the same samples. The results show that the interpretation of the fluorescent minerals through LIF images corresponds to the XRD results. Furthermore, the utilization of the logistic regression to interpret the existing fluorescent minerals greatly improves the technique."

This study examines the surface alteration and flotation behaviour of synthetic moncheite, PtPd(BiTe)2, in the presence of pentlandite. The telluride minerals contribute around 20% ~ 30% and up to 45% of the PGM present in the Platreef ore and are considered to be slow floating as there is evidence of these minerals reporting to the tailings. It was proposed that oxidation products from other minerals and grinding media would affect the mineral surface composition and floatability thereby causing inadvertent depression of moncheite due to precipitating ions. ToF-SIMS analyses (time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry) was used to characterise the mineral surface as well as the extent of surface alteration. Microflotation was used to deter-mine the hydrophobicity of the synthetic minerals. Conditioning of moncheite in the presence of pentlandite reduced the flotation response of the + 38 -106µm size fraction from > 99% to 56%. This was due to pentlandite dissolution products (iron and nickel hydroxy species) which formed overlayers on the mineral surfaces thereby inhibiting the adsorption of collector. In addition, further grinding of these samples, with and without pentlandite conditioning showed a negative effect on recovery due to the fineness of the particle size distribution and there was no advantage gained from any possible exposure of fresh sites in the sample.

"Selenium removal and platinum group metal (PGM) recovery from copper sulfate leach solutions form an integral part of platinum producers’ base metal refinery operations. Recent studies found that substantially higher PGM recoveries can be achieved if excess thiourea instead of sulfurous acid is used as precipitation reagent; however, the impact of the proposed process on downstream processes was unknown. The objective of the current study was therefore to investigate the effects that excess thiourea and residual selenium present in the rich copper sulfate electrolyte have on copper electrowinning. This was achieved by performing cyclic voltammetry tests using a platinum rotating disk as working electrode, a graphite auxiliary electrode and a saturated calomel reference electrode. A synthetic copper sulfate electrolyte containing 0.01 M Cu2+, 1 M H2SO4 and varying amounts of selenium (20 – 150 mg/L) and thiourea (10 mg/L and 100 – 300 % excess) was used. The results obtained have shown that both thiourea and selenium interact with the cupric ion cathodic reduction reaction. Thiourea polarized the working electrode and lowered the efficiency of the cupric reduction reaction. Tests on the solutions with high selenium concentration showed simultaneous reduction of copper and selenium, which led to copper selenide formation. Nodule formation on the deposit surface also became significant at higher selenium concentrations. Based on these results, it was concluded that precipitation of PGMs from the copper sulfate solution with excess thiourea is not feasible due to the detrimental effect on downstream electrowinning operations.INTRODUCTION During the high pressure oxidative leaching stage in a typical base metal refinery (BMR) circuit, selenium, tellurium and some platinum group metals (PGMs) are dissolved along with the desired copper ions. The impurities (selenium and tellurium) may pass to the copper electrowinning circuit where it can result in the formation of nodular copper electrodeposits or reduced current efficiency. The presence of PGMs in solution, on the other hand, increases the precious metal inventory and potential losses of the operation. Currently, sulfurous acid is widely used for selenium and tellurium precipitation from copper sulfate leach solutions. Sulfurous acid is capable of reducing cupric ions to cuprous ions; the generated cuprous ions then react with Se4+ and Se6+ to precipitate selenium as a copper selenide (Bello, Dorfling, 2014). Recent studies have, however, proposed the use of excess thiourea as a precipitating agent for the removal of selenium and tellurium; it has the advantage of improved PGM recovery in the Se/Te precipitation step (Lottering, Eksteen et al., 2012; Mulwanda, Dorfling, 2015)."

Hydraulic or teetered bed separators (TBS) are finding new avenues for application in the field of mineral processing. Floatex Density Separator (FDS) is a hydraulic/teetered bed separator capable of operating at high tonnage due to its advanced instrumentation. FDS/TBS is being used in Indian mineral sand industry for classification and segregation of different minerals. The purpose of this paper is to provide details on the performance of the plant scale FDS in recovering the chromite from feed (below 1mm size). Historically this feed has been processed using hydrocyclones and spiral classifiers; however, there is a strong trend now to employ teetered bed separators, thus allowing significant changes to be made in the plant for improving process efficiency. In the present work, the performance of the plant scale FDS is described in terms of partition curve (yield, cut size, classification efficiency/Ep) for different combination of process variables and also in terms of metallurgical grade and recovery. It is found that, efficient classification can be achieved at a maximum cut size of 380 µm with and the imperfection is also reported as low as 0.16. The grade of the underflow product is enriched as maximum as 52.2% Cr2O3 from a feed assaying 40.4% Cr2O3.
