PolyMet Mining is developing the NorthMet property near Duluth, MN. Laboratory investigations have led to the development of the Platsol process to dissolve in one step the base metals (copper and nickel) as well as the gold and platinum group metals (PGM). To complete the prefeasibility study, a fully integrated, 10-day pilot plant trial was undertaken. The trial consisted of high-temperature (>220ºC or >428ºF) pressure oxidation in the presence of 5 to 10 g/L chloride (the Platsol process). This was followed by solid/liquid separation, gold plus PGM recovery from solution, conventional copper solvent extractions/electrowinning (SX/EW) and recycling of the copper raffinate to the autoclave. The concentrate tested during the trial period was a NorthMet bulk flotation concentrate. It assayed 14.7% Cu, 3.05% Ni, 0.14% Co, 26.7% S, 1.4 g/t (0.041 oz/st) Au, 2.2 g/t (0.064 oz/st) Pt and 9.9 g/t (0.289 oz/st) Pd Laboratory results were confirmed and, with minor adjustments of the laboratory Platsol conditions, the following leach extractions were obtained during the pilot plant trial: 99.6% Cu, 98.9% Ni, 96% Co, 94.6% Pd, 96 % Pt and 89.4 % Au.

Chlorination and carbochlorination processes have industrial applications in metallurgical activity for extraction and purification of uncommon metals such as rare earth elements (REE). This study reviews the chlorination and carbochlorination reactions of light REE (LREE) oxides with chlorine considering the thermodynamic, stoichiometric, and kinetic aspects of the reactions. Lanthanides between lanthanum to gadolinium were considered as LREE, in agreement with previous literature, and the results were detailed in this review. LREE were analyzed taking into account their oxidation states and were divided into three groups accordingly. The results presented show that, although the LREE are chemically similar, their behaviors during the reactions with Cl2 and Cl2–C, and the different LREE-O–Cl compounds formed, have particularities. It was observed that gadolinium, in both thermodynamic calculations and experimental results, presents some differences, and it can be considered intermediate between light and heavy REE; i.e., reactions between LREE2O3 and Cl2(g) begin at approximately 250 °C, except for Gd2O3 that begins at 327 °C. The present work will contribute to a better understanding of the chemistry of LREE oxides and Cl2 under different conditions and the products obtained in the LREE–O––Cl2(g) and LREE–O–C–Cl2(g) systems.

INTRODUCTION Underground structures are generally regarded to be safer than surface structures during strong seismic motion, except when crossing a causative fault. Recent studies of observed earthquake damage to tunnels generally support this view, although instances of severe damage and, occasionally, collapse are reported. For proposed underground construction of sensitive structures such as nuclear power plants, liquefied natural gas facilities, and nuclear waste repositories, a verification of the seismic response of underground structures will be required.. This paper discusses the stabilization recommendations used in a study of additional costs required to protect tunnels against ground motion caused by earthquakes and underground nuclear explosions (1). The study is a part of the site investigations for possible construction of a nuclear waste repository. The additional costs estimated in the study are not presented here; only the stabilization measures are presented in the present paper. The tunnels, which would constitute the underground facilities of a possible repository, are assumed to be 5.5 m (18 ft) in diameter and to be located at a depth of 600 m (2,000 ft). Three candidate geological materials are considered: argillite (shale), granite, and tuff. Several peak ground accelerations are used: 0.3g, 0.5g, and 0.7g for earthquakes, and 0.5g, 0.7g, and 1.0g for underground nuclear explosions. Potential damage due only to shaking is considered here. This paper does not discuss problems that result from creep or sudden rupture of intersected faults or from ground failures at portals.

Fairbanks Gold Mining, Inc. (FGMI) began blending and processing True North ore at their Fort Knox mill on April 12, 2001.Gold extraction subsequently dropped from 88% to 71% during the last week of April 2001. 25% of the gold values remaining in the leach tailings were gravity recoverable free gold. Significant quantities of stibnite and arsenopyrite were also identified in the tailings. In laboratory bottle roll tests, the gold extraction from a composite of leach circuit feed collected during the same period was 72.6%, when leached at an average NaCN concentration of 0.16 g/kg. The extraction increased to 82.4% and 91.7% with 0.5 g/kg NaCN, and 0.5g/kg NaCN plus 0.075 g/kg Pb(NO3)2, respectively. A passivating layer surrounding liberated gold particles and resulting from sulfide mineral dissolution, likely contributes to reduced gold recovery, which can be substantially increased by the addition of lead nitrate. Lead species remain in the solid residues after leaching and were not mobilized using Meteoric Water Mobility Procedure.

Introduction The Fortitude deposit is located in Nevada's Battle Mountain mining district in the central Great Basin region of the Basin and Range province of the western US. The deposit is at Copper Canyon in the southernmost portion of the district, about 19 km (12 miles) southwest of Battle Mountain (Fig. 1). Mining activity in the district began in 1866 (Roberts and Arnold, 1965). Base and precious metals were mined by underground methods intermittently until 1955. Placer gold was first discovered at Copper Canyon in 1912. Moderate scale dredging of alluvial gravel at the mouth of Copper Canyon was conducted by the Natomas Co. from 1944 to 1955 (Johnson, 1973). In 1967, Duval Corp. began large scale open-pit copper mining. (Sayers, Tippett, and Fields, 1968). Copper prices decreased and precious metals prices increased in the mid-1970s so Duval's exploration efforts at Copper Canyon shifted to precious metals. These exploration efforts resulted in the discovery of the Tomboy-Minnie deposits and shortly afterward, the Northeast Extension deposit at Copper Canyon (Blake, Wotruba, and Theodore, 1984; Fig. 2). The Fortitude deposit was discovered in late 1980, after Duval had proceeded with precious metals production at Copper Canyon. Converting the existing plant facilities at Copper Canyon to a precious metals recovery system was completed in 1978 (Jackson, 1982). Production from the Tomboy-Minnie deposits began in early 1979. Precious metals production moved to the Northeast Extension deposit in 1982. In late 1984, after three years of preproduction stripping and mining of the Upper Fortitude ore zone, production from the higher grade Lower Fortitude ore zone began. Currently, Battle Mountain Gold Co. operates the Fortitude deposit. Production from the Battle Mountain mining district before 1967 included 4.6 t (150,000 oz) of gold, 65.3 t (2.1 million oz) of silver, 13.6 kt (15,000 st) of copper, 4.5 kt (5,000 st) of lead, and 13.6 kt (15,000 st) of zinc (Roberts and Arnold, 1965). At the time of Duval's 1967 start-up, ore reserves at Copper Canyon included 12.6 Mt (14 million st) in the East ore body and another 3.6 Mt (4 million st) in the West ore body. Both had average grades of 0.79% copper, 16.1 g/t (0.47 oz per st) silver and 0.86 g/t (0.025 oz per st) gold (Blake et al., 1984). The Tomboy-Minnie deposits collectively contained 3.5 Mt (3.9 million st) of ore grading 3.09 g/t (0.09 oz per st) gold and 9.6 g/t (0.28 oz per st) silver. The Northeast Extension reserves were identified as 1.4 Mt (1.5 million st) of ore with an average grade of 2.9 g/t (0.085 oz per st) gold and 5.1 g/t (0.15 oz per st) silver. Initial total reserve estimates for the Fortitude deposit were 14.5 Mt (16 million st) grading 5.14 g/t (0.15 oz per st) gold and 29.8 g/t (0.87 oz per st) silver (Jackson, 1982). Therefore, before large scale mining, the Copper Canyon area contained a minimum of 102.6 t (3.3 million oz) of gold and 541 t (17.4 million oz) of silver as mineable reserves. The Fortitude deposit reserves as of Jan. 1, 1985 were 10.6 Mt (11 million st) grading at 5.28 g/t (0.154 oz per st) gold and 28.5 g/t (0.83 oz per st) silver. The El Sauzal deposit is a classic, high sulfidation, epithermal gold system located in southwestern Chihuahua State, Mexico. The prospect was discovered by a Francisco Gold Corp. geologist in1995. El Sauzal was encountered as a result of an extensive grass-root exploration program in the rugged, dissected volcanic terrains of the Sierra Madre Occidental, around the historical Batopilas Silver Camp. At El Sauzal, high grade gold is hosted within a series of more permeable, low-dipping, lithic and fine-grained dacitic rocks of early Tertiary age. The mineralization appears to be both structurally and lithologically controlled. The alteration characteristics are typical of a high sulfidation system including kaolinite, illite, alunite, dickite and pyrophyllite. The deposit’s gold distribution, as recorded from drill-hole data and surface samples, varies from 0.2 to 650.0 g/t. The estimated geological resource, as calculated from an independent study completed in 1998, was 3.0 million oz @ 2.03 g/t including a minable reserve of1.8 million oz @ 3.3 g/t.

The Stillwater pt-pd mine and flotation mill are located about 130 km (80 miles) southwest of Billings in Stillwater county, M6ntana~ The pt-pd ore zone stretches about 43 km (27 miles), but varies in thickness from 0 to 6 meters (0 to 20 feet, but generally 3-6 feet) and dips 55-90,degrees from horizontal. The ore is hosted in basic, layered igneous rocks containing about 1% sulfide minerals which include chalcopyrite, pentlandite, pyrrhotite, and minor pyrite. The pt-Pd minerals are intimately associated with these sulfide minerals and are found as precious metal sulfides, tellurides, bismuthnides, and arsenides as well as native Pt metal. Approximately 90 different precious metal minerals have been found, but about 80% of the pd is in solid solution in the pentlandite. The ore assays about 0.1% Cu, 0.1% Ni, 6.2 g Pt/tonne (0.18 Troy ounce Pt/short ton (opt)), 21.3 g Pd/tonne (0.62 opt Pd), 0.21 g Au/tonne (0.006 opt Au), and 0.21 g Rh/tonne (0.006 opt Rh). The ratio of pd to Pt in the Stillwater ore and concentrates is about 3.5.

The use of a 25.4-mm- (1-in.-) diam water-only hydro-cyclone for separating liberated 125 x 25- µm high-density particles from similar-size lower-density (2.65 g/cc quartz particles, as might be used in soil washing applications, was investigated. As expected, cyclone performance was greatly affected by changes in cyclone geometry and operating conditions. A single-stage separation recovered 75% of the magnetite (4.8 g/cc) while rejecting nearly 60% of the quartz. With ferrosilicon (7.0 g/cc) as the heavy component, the recovery improved to 85%. The use of dense medium in a single stage increased both ferrosilicon recovery and quartz rejection to approximately 90% each. In addition, computer simulations of a three-stage circuit were performed. The simulations showed that recoveries approaching 97% with quartz rejections of 95% were possible.

"In this study, cyanidation experiments were carried out on a massive sulfide ore sample, whose grades of the precious metals gold and silver were found to be 4.2 g/t and 311.9 g/t, respectively. Other elements in the ore were arsenic with average grade of 1,751.6 g/t; antimony, 619.7 g/t; zinc, 781.4 g/t; copper, 454.6 g/t; lead, 101.8 g/t; mercury, 324.3 g/t; and bismuth, 0.6 g/t. The first objective of test work focused on determining the best conditions for extracting gold from the ore, ground to less than 75 microns. Different influential parameters such as particle size fraction, cyanide concentration, pH and leaching time were investigated. The optimum parameters were found to be particle size fraction of less than 25 microns, cyanide concentration of 2,000 mg/L, pH of 11 and cyanidation time of 24 hours. In these optimum conditions, the highest gold and silver leaching efficiencies were 76.88 and 59.63 percent, respectively. In addition, roasting as pretreatment at a temperature of 700°C over a period of two hours was evaluated. Cyanidation testing of the roasted ore in the optimum conditions found increases in the gold and silver leaching efficiencies to 85.97 and 67.57 percent, respectively. Moreover, antimony extraction rose to 43.10 percent, from 23.73 percent without roasting.IntroductionGenerally, gold ores can be classified as “free milling” or “refractory,” depending on how they respond to cyanide leaching (La Brooy et al., 1994; Celep et al., 2009). While high gold recoveries (> 90 percent) from free-milling gold ores can be readily achieved, refractory gold ores are often characterized by low gold recoveries (50-80 percent) within a conventional cyanide leaching process (Rubisov et al., 1996; Adams, 2005; Celep et al., 2009). The presence of preg-robber components such as carbonaceous matter, sulfide minerals and aluminosilicate can further decrease gold and silver dissolution rates and recoveries. With the negative effect of the presence of preg-robbers, gold dissolution is considerably diminished in solutions with high cyanide concentration (Tan et al., 2005). In such refractory gold ores, gold particles may sometimes be occluded or included in the sulfide minerals, and pretreatment becomes necessary to break down the mineral structure to liberate gold for subsequent recovery. These ores are usually pretreated with an oxidizing process, after which gold and silver can be recovered by a standard cyanidation process. The main oxidizing processes available for refractory gold ores are roasting (LaBrooy et al., 1994; Angelidis and Kydros, 1995; Li et al., 2009; Karimi et al., 2010; Kyle et al., 2012), biological oxidation (Lawrence and Bruynesteyn, 1983; Komnitsas and Pooley, 1990, 1991; Deng and Liao, 2002; Ciftci and Akcil, 2010, 2013) and pressure oxidation (Mason, 1990; Murthy et al., 1992; Qingcui et al., 2009). In addition, ultra-fine grinding is being used in some plants for the liberation of gold and silver particles that are interlocked in the sulfide or silicate minerals (Celep et al., 2011)"

Petrographic properties of carbonate rocks are useful guides to the utilization of these rocks in SO2-scrubbing systems. High porosity and fineness of grain are thought to be the principal properties that contribute to high dissolution rates of the rocks in the scrubbing liquor. Lake marls and chalks are the major types of carbonate rocks that have these properties. Lake marls are composed mainly of equant grains of calcite (mean grain size generally less than 4 microns) weakly agglomerated in- to larger, porous particles. The marls commonly consist of 80 to 90 percent CaCo3 as calcite and aragonite. Impurities are, for the most part, quartz silt and organic matter. The average pore volume for samples of lake marls (1- to 1.2-mm particles) is about 0.50 cc/g, which corresponds to a porosity of about 57 percent. The mean size of pores in these marls is generally between 1 and 2 microns in diameter. Surface areas of lake marls range from 0.8 to 6.8 m2/g. Chalks have grain sizes and shapes similar to those of lake marls, but they generally have smaller amounts of quartz and organic matter and minor amounts of clay minerals. Pore volumes differ from one chalk formation to another; the 1- to 1. 2-mm particles average about 0.20 cc/g, which corresponds to a porosity of about 35 percent. The mean diameter of pores in chalks tested ranges from 0. 15 to 0.76 micron. Surface areas of chalks range from 3. 2 to 20. 1 m2/g. In the United States lake marls are restricted largely to Pleistocene- age sediments that occur in the states around the Great Lakes. Chalk and chalky limestones are restricted mainly to the Upper Cretaceous and Tertiary strata in the Kansas-Nebraska-Colorado area and in the south- eastern states, from Texas to Florida. Results of laboratory tests of the relative dissolution rates of samples at pH 6 and 44°C indicate that, in addition to many lake marls and chalks, oolitic aragonite, pelecypod shells, and carbonate waste sludges from certain industrial plants also have high dissolution rates.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines investigated leaching of chalcopyrite with sulfuric acid-oxygen under conditions anticipated during in situ leaching. A central composite experimental design was chosen to study oxygen pressures of 150, 300, and 450 psi, leach temperatures of 35?, 65°, and 95° C, oxygen-to-chalcopyrite mass ratios of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5, leach times of 8, 16, and 24 hours, initial acid strengths of 0.6, 1.2, and 1.8 g H2SO4/g chalcopyrite and pyrite to chalcopyrite mass ratios of 0, 1, and 2. The leaching kinetics were consistent with the shrinking core model. A quadratic response surface model was used to determine linear and interaction effects of the design factors on rate constants from Arrhenius correlations.

GOLD AND SILVER Cyanidation According to Mellor (1923) the alchemists of the eighteenth century knew that gold was soluble in aqueous solution of potassium cyanide, and the early jewelers probably utilized this fact in gilding. He also mentions that Scheele in 1783 and later Bagration in 1843 noted the solvent action of aqueous solutions of alkali cyanides on gold. Yet it was not until 1887 that the value of this observation was recognized, when MacArthur and Forrest (1887) made use of it in leaching gold from its ores. Since then, the process has spread to every gold and silver mining district in the world.

The health of the industrial minerals industry appears to be improving year by year. In fact, preliminary information suggests that only three commodities (asbestos, bromine, and sulfur-other) failed to show a production gain in 1984 over 1983. In 1983, 10 commodities failed to post gains and six remained constant. The total value of industrial mineral production in 1984 was $16.7 billion, up $1.4 billion from 1983. Cement, clays, gypsum, and crushed stone production increased. Since these are used in housing and construction, this suggests these industries are moving out of their recent doldrums. Barite and clay production also improved in 1984. Local US barite production, however, still has a long way to go to attain the 1981 high of 2.6 Mt (2.9 million st). Barite imports remain high. But they are not as high as the 1982 importation of 2 Mt (2.3 million st). Bentonite production in 1984 increased 20% in volume and 25% in value over the previous year. This suggests improvement in the drilling industry and an increase in demand for iron ore pelletizing grades. All in all, the industrial mineral industry is alive and well. And it shows signs of great improvement in the next few years. The latest resource estimate for the Caspiche gold/silver/copper project in the Maricunga region of Chile was released by gold explorer Exeter Resource Corp. The resource is low grade, but bulk minable and drilling to date has shown a NI 43-101 compliant inferred resource of 1,117 Mt (1.23 billion st) grading 0.55 g/t (0.016 oz/st) gold, 3.81 g/t (0.111 oz/st) silver and 0.22 percent copper. Exeter said these findings make the in situ metals amounts of 609 t (19.6 million oz) of gold, 4.4 kt (137 million oz) of silver and 4.84 billion lbs of copper, which the company relates as 33.7 million gold equivalent ounces using assumed metal prices of $23.33/g ($800/oz) for gold, 35 cents/g ($12/oz) for silver and $2/lb for copper. The deposit is almost midway between Barrick?s Cerro Casale gold deposit and Kinross? Refugio Mine. In a statement Exeter chairman Yale Simpson said ?This updated resource estimate places Caspiche firmly among the world?s largest gold-copper discoveries in recent years and clearly supports our decision to aggressively drill the property, despite the global economic decline. ?We expect that the very substantial copper and silver credits will be extremely important, and will markedly impact the potential viability of Caspiche. Specifically, using metal prices of US$2/lb copper, $23.33/g ($800/oz) gold and 35 cents/g ($12/oz) silver, the 4.84 billion lbs of copper and 4.2 kt (137 million oz) of silver are equivalent to 376 kt and 62 t (12.1 and 2 million oz) of gold, respectively. ?Our recent drilling has defined what appears to be a coherent higher grade central zone associated with a definable early stage diorite intrusion. We expect this zone will be important in developing various mining and economic models for the project,? Simpson said. Exeter is still drilling the deposit to expand the re-source estimate further to the southeast and at depth and to upgrade the higher grade central zone to the indicated category. Simpson said, ?Exeter intends to enhance the value of Caspiche by continuing to de-risk the project through ongoing exploration, metallurgy, engineering, water and environmental studies. These studies will continue through the next 12 months and will lead to a conceptual development study. A timeline for the release of that study is being formulated. The project budget for the next 12 months is C$14 million.? Mineweb reported that Caspiche is likely too big of a deposit and at too high of altitude for Exeter to handle alone. Exeter will be looking to other majors, or perhaps the Chinese, to help develop this huge orebody. But, in the meantime, it also has its high grade Cerro Moro deposit in Argentina, which could be brought to production relatively quickly and at relatively low cost.

This is an extension of the work on recovery of silver and manganese from Ag-Mn ores, and recovery of silver and gallium from flue dust from phosphate industry. Carbon adsorption was considered as the most adequate method for recovery of silver from thiourea leach solutions. For this reason it was decided to examine the characteristics of adsorption of silver on activated carbon. Coconut hard shell activated carbon was used for this study. Ag(TU)2C1 complex was dissolved into thiourea solution to give 2 gpl stock solution. Thy studied parameters were: loading isotherms at 25°C, 35°C, and 45°C, initial kinetics as a function of thiourea concentration, temperature, pH, N2, and O2. It was found that the loading capacity of carbon for silver and thiourea was 137-150 mg/g and 514 mg/g, respectively, at 25 °C.

This paper focuses on remediation of a 3.6 km long water conveyance tunnel that suffered two large falls of ground (FoGs), one of which subsequently progressed to the ground surface, resulting in full collapse of the tunnel. The tunnel is part of a network of water conveyance tunnels and open channels that direct water into two turbines located in an underground powerhouse, originally constructed in the 1970s. At the time of construction, the tunnel was partially supported with shotcrete or rock bolts, with no further ground support added since construction. Two sonar surveys in 019 and 01 identied two adacent large FoGs in the tunnel, approimately 1.2 km from the tunnel outlet. Historical geological and geotechnical information indicated that the FoGs occurred within a 60 m wide fault zone. Remediation plans were developed, which included stabilization of the outlet channel, the portal, the tunnel leading up to the FoG areas (1.2 km length) and the FoG areas. Several remediation options were considered to restore the tunnel, including construction of a diversion tunnel to bypass the FoGs or remediation of the FoG areas with steel ribs and backlling the void above the FoGs to surface.

Gold-silver and copper-gold deposits with high-temperature wallrock alteration of Ca-Mg-Fe-Al silicates occur in ca. 3.0 Ga old greenstone belts of the Yilgarn Block, Western Australia. The deposits are hosted by amphibolite-facies komatiites, basalts and BIF, controlled by ductile shear zones and located within the contact-metamorphic aureoles of composite granodiorite-granite batholiths. Disseminated sulfides and free gold form foliation-parallel ore zones in a gangue of anhydrous silicates (garnet, clinopyroxene, olivine), hydrous silicates (amphibole, biotite) and calcite. The deposits may be classified on the basis of their dominant economic metals as: 1(1) Gold skarns with substantial silver as by-product, represented by the Marvel Loch mine (production: 2,200,000 t at 3.5 g/t Au), and characterized by the mineral association pyrrhotite, loellingite, arsenopyrite, galena, gold and magnetite. (2) Gold skarns with low silver contents, represented by the Nevoria mine (production:1,850,000 t at 3.4 g/t Au), and characterized by the mineral association pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, gold, Bi-tellurides and magnetite. (3) Copper-gold skarns, represented by the Elverdton mine (production: 850,000 t at .7 5 Cu, 0.81 g/t Au), and characterized by the mineral association magnetite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, gold and Ag-Bi tellurides.

A study was undertaken to determine the effect of five industrial frothers on the relationship between entrainment recovery and water recovery. The experiments were conducted using a Batequip rectangular 60 liter steel cell which was run in parallel with the first cell in a copper/silver prefloat rougher circuit. The concentration of the frothers ranged from 2.5 g/ton to 8.4 g/ton. The experiments were repeated at three different froth depths. A power function was found to fit this relationship with no discontinuity in the relationship caused by the changes in frother type and concentration and froth depth.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines utilized a central composite experimental design to investigate leaching kinetics of pure chalcopyrite in the sulfuric acid-oxygen system. The six factors studied were oxygen pressures of 150, 300 and 450 PSI, leach temperatures of 35O, 65O, and 95O C, oxygen-to-chalcopyrite mass ratios of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5, leach times of 8, 16 and 24 hours, initial acid strengths of 0.6, 1.2 and 1.8 g H,SO,/g chalcopyrite and pyrite to chalcopyrite mass ratios of 0, 1, and 2. Chemical analysis and oxygen consumption measurements indicatedthat leaching occurs through three consecutive reactions. Temperature was the primary determinant of leach rate and solution acidity was the primary determinant of oxygen consumption, sulfur oxidation, and activation energy.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines is conducting core leaching experiments with sulfuric acid on oxide copper ores from the Cyprus Casa Grande and ASARCO Santa Cruz deposits in Arizona to further our understanding of the leaching process in supergene copper ores as it relates to in situ mining. Leach solutions from atacamite mineralization contained 5 to 30 g/l copper and few extraneous ions. Leachant from chrysocolla ores, with grades similar to the atacamite, contained 2 to 9 g/l copper and abundant extraneous ions. Quartz and K-feldspar had no impact on leach solution composition at any acid concentration (up to 40 g/l) while illite and sericite had minimal impact. Biotite, calcium-rich clay and limonite have a significant impact on solution chemistry when there is abundant free acid in solution. High acid concentrations increase acid consumption in ores with abundant biotite and limonite gangue. High acid concentrations can be used in ores with quartz, K-feldspar, and sericite gangues without increasing acid consumption per unit of copper removed.
