Microorganisms in AMD (Acid Mine Drainage) were enriched in 9K culture medium. The enrichment was applied to leach copper pyrite after the microbial community structure and metabolism was stable. Before and after bioleaching, the microbial DNA was extracted and applied to RFLP (restricted fragment length polymorphism) analysis to demonstrate the relationship between the leaching efficiency and the change of microbial community. Atomic absorption spectrometry results showed that when concentration of the pulp was 10% and pH were 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5, the leaching rate were 56%, 57% and 34% on the 18th day respectively. These results indicated that the rise of pH resulted in the decrease of leaching rate. In lower pH condition, the growth of microbe was faster: when pH was 1.5, the microbial cell number reached to 1.4×107cells/mL on the 9th day; while pH was 2.5, the microbial cell number decreased to 4×106cells/mL. The analysis of microbial community structure showed that Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans were dominant species before bioleaching (account for 43% and 32% respectively). And after bioleaching, these two species were still dominant when the initial bioleaching pH were1.5 and 2.0. While the initial bioleaching pH was 2.5, the proportion of these two species decreased. These results demonstrated that the initial bioleaching pH would affect the microbial community structure in bioleaching system at room temperature, and this affect could lead to different copper pyrites bioleaching efficiency.

On the territory Sakha (Yakutia) are located largest in Russian Federation reserves of antimony ores, Sarylakhsk and Sentochansk deposits, amaunt 10% of world stocks of antimony. A processing gold antimony ores Sarylakhsk deposit is carried out on gravitation-flotation circuit to receive gold gravitation concentrate and gold-antimony flotation concentrate with the contents of antimony over 60%. The gold-bearing concentrate is treated on place hydrometallurgicaly to a high-standard product, accepted by gold bank cash department. At the ore dressing plant reached the highest recovery in world in a concentrate of antimony 90%~91.6%, and gold 85.7%~86.0% as a result of scientific research works. Studied the mechanism of interaction cations of metals Pb2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, Hg2+, Ag+ with a surface antimonite presented on the basis of modern physical-chemical methods: nuclear quadrupol resonance, x-ray electron spectroscopy, electron spin resonance. The industrial tests of sodium dimethyldithiocarbate were carried out which confirmed high recovery of Sb and As. The leaching Sb2S3 by bacteria Desulfovibro desulfuricans and transformation antimonite in antimony trioxide by Tiobacillus Ferrooxidans improved following cyanidation . The extraction of antimony in a solution 96.0%~98.0% under optimal conditions. The common total extraction in the appropriate commodity products for gold reached 98%, for Sb 96.5%. At a combination of bioprocessing and cyanidation 85.5% of extraction Au was achieved. The new solvents for antimonite were found. Now by the Close Joint-Stock Co ?Sarylach-Antimony? industrial plant is constructed for processing Au-Sb concentrates to receive antimony trioxide and gold from various antimony deposits of Sakha (Yakutia).

"Magotteaux and Anglo Platinum started a co-operation program with the main aim of establishing the optimum milling configuration measured in terms of throughput, fineness and energy consumption.For this purpose, a fully instrumented pilot milling plant, supplied by Magotteaux (Pty) Ltd, and equipped with a 0.9 x 1.0 m ball mill, was erected at Frank concentrator (Merensky Pt ore). The primary ball mills at Frank concentrator were surveyed in order to set the conditions for the base case. This data was then replicated in the pilot mill under the same configuration. Thereafter, a series of different parameters were varied in order to attempt to optimize the milling system.Some of the grinding parameters that have been studied are:•,Gate versus overflow discharge•,Open versus closed circuit•,Different filling degrees•,Different shell liner profilesOnly grate versus overflow discharge and open versus closed circuit will be discussed in this paper.It should be noted that this paper does not attempt to give a universal solution as to what milling configuration is optimum in all cases. The conclusions apply for this particular case and probably most others, but it would be advisable to consider each case on its own."

"Developed countries are in the midst of re-structuring education in minerals-related disciplines as raw materials, once vital to wealth generation, contribute progressively less to the economy. The changing circumstances mean institutions must justify mineral processing by new criteria. After considering what a mineral processor needs to know the ways to deliver are considered. Taking twenty graduates per year to illustrate, one institute could justify this number as a program in a department or school (of whatever grouping of disciplines). A strong research component would make the package additionally attractive. Divide among four institutions and mineral processing is best served in a research centre with delivery taking advantage of multi-centre and distance learning opportunities.INTRODUCTIONThis is one of five plenary lectures at the Congress. I may have preferred a technical subject, as that is what occupies most of my thinking hours, but it is reasonable as an academic that this topic should come to one of us. The fact the topic has not been high on my agenda may provide one advantage: that I can suggest directions free of pre-conceived notions, just as when reviewing the background to a technical article the temptation to select in support of one?s interpretations is resisted. The trick will be to add something new.One reading of the title seems to query whether mineral processing education has a future. (I will refrain at this juncture from defining mineral processing and assume for now we share an understanding of the term.) The proximity of natural and human resources led to the Industrial Revolution and the interaction continues to stimulate and sustain industrial and economic development in many parts of the world. The search for raw materials has historically played a key role in opening frontier areas, with undersea and outer space next. The reason is obvious: raw materials along with food and energy underpin society. Thus mining will remain part of human activity along with the need to pass on the knowledge and skills.What happens over time is resource relocation. Raw materials become exhausted in one area to be replaced by sources elsewhere; the demand for some materials lessens while growing for others. Educational institutions can find themselves with the wrong geography or with staff focussing on the wrong subjects. When this happens the restructuring produces much discussion. This is where we are in parts of the world. Japan, Western Europe and the United States are the prominent examples (Dowd, 1998; Flemings and Suresh, 2001; McDivitt, 2002). Mineral processing is becoming a series of courses in related disciplines: resource engineering, environment engineering or materials engineering. The start of the transition is evident in Canada and Australia, perhaps earlier than expected given the contribution of raw materials to their economies. A common backdrop in the developed countries is social pressure to reduce the impact of the ?untidy? aspects of life, and that includes mining. (This is not new: in classical times the mine face was the preserve of slaves and convicts.) These values are exportable, potentially affecting recruitment into mining schools everywhere."

"This paper presents a systematic approach to metallurgy diagnostics using an integrated gold deportment methodology developed for complex refractory gold and copper-gold ore bodies. Quantification of gold deportment for these ore bodies is a challenging task due to reasons such as lower grades, high variability of visible and invisible gold content in different sulphides and iron oxide phases, significant presence of disseminated and composite carbonaceous matters along with associations of various copper sulphide phases. Some case studies are presented in this paper to demonstrate the value of a high confidence gold deportment methodology in developing insights for problem diagnostics and to identify opportunities for metallurgical improvements. A holistic approach involving different fields of expertise is critical for successful development and delivery of solutions for complex ore bodies.INTRODUCTION Studies were initiated on various ore complex ore and also on samples representing various process streams. These complex copper-gold single refractory, double and triple refractory gold ores are mainly composed of silicates and/or carbonates with moderate amounts of clay and mica, along with minor amounts of sulphides and organic carbonaceous matter. Variable proportions of visible gold and “invisible gold” (sub-microscopic gold) were noted in different mineral phases for various ore types and process stream samples. Invisible gold commonly occurs as solid solution or as colloidal-sized particles in different sulphides (pyrite, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and galena) and other phases (including hematite, magnetite and goethite) for different refractory ores. The dominance of invisible gold and presence of highly preg-robbing along with finely disseminated carbonaceous matters adversely affects gold recovery in flotation and leach circuits for most of these double and triple refractory ores. This paper discusses applications of an integrated gold deportment technique developed for different types of gold and copper-gold ores, namely, complex copper-gold, double and triple refractory gold ores (Chattopadhyay and Gorain, 2014; Chattopadhyay et. al., 2016). Various process streams from flotation and gold leaching circuits were investigated. Different concentrates and tailings samples from flotation circuits whereas feed and discharges from pressure oxidation (POX) and carbon-in-leach (CIL) residues were used from gold processing circuits."

Controlling a wide range of minerals processes with single control system is an ordinary way to operate in mines all over the world these days. However the potential of these systems is not yet fully recognized nor utilized. The key issue is to manage the information in a way that enables automating the day-to-day tasks, quality control and safety functions. At the same time it provides means for optimization and constant improvement of processes creating a working environment where the system helps employees to do their key tasks instead of searching, modifying, and transmitting the huge number of information arising every day. The distribution of control system nodes enables the other processes to run heedless of a problem occurring in one of the sub-processes. Also the control room can be in remote location such as in large city removing the need to travel substantially long distances to plant sites every day. When all essential information is brought to the same place there is less risk for a mishap to happen due to information breaks that are often the cause of them. One of the biggest single reasons that result in production losses are break downs of machinery usually caused by normal wear, misuse, incorrect utilization rate etc. For this reason it is important to measure the condition of machines using vibration measurement and diagnostics. By moving from failure or time-based maintenance towards predictive or performance maintenance generates eventually a steady and predictable process but also results in significant long term savings. The mineral process at Talvivaara mine is based on bioheapleaching, whereby metals are leached from ore as a result of bacterial action. Bioleaching is a fairly new technology used in metals recovery. Therefore it is important for the mine to collect and analyze data from different stages of the minerals process. Talvivaara mine?s Metso DNA system has integrated machine condition monitoring and information management. These are not only necessary but also crucial in environmental conditions where the outside temperature can drop below -35°C, where ice and snow dominate the landscape and impact the equipment for four months a year and where distances between equipment can be up to 7.5 kilometers. "In the mineral-processing field, bioleaching of metal sulphide concentrates is currently operated in very large mechanically agitated tanks. Such bioreactors have considerable requirements in terms of power consumption for mixing, aeration and heat transfer. The use of slurry bubble column, where the particles are suspended by gas motion as well as by liquid upward flow, could be an alternative to achieve bioleaching in more economical conditions. In order to compare these two techniques, a unit of stirred reactors in cascade and a bubble column were comparatively operated at laboratory scale in the bioleaching of a pyrite concentrate. For both pieces of equipment, experiments were performed not only in batch mode but also in continuous conditions.Bubble column performances were significantly affected by unpredictable technical difficulties met to maintain continuous feeding in the bubble column and by a significant settling of the heavy solid particles. Nonetheless, theoretical kinetic data, extrapolated from results in batch conditions, could be compared to those obtained in continuous tests, in bubble column and in mechanically agitated reactors. These kinetic data were used to evaluate the influence of reactor design and configuration choice on bioleaching performances."

Based on the characteristics of typical marine sedimentary phosphate rock in Guizhou, Southwest China, together with the research findings made on the surface electric properties of pure collophanites taken from different areas in pure water and under the action of collectors, a pure minerals flotation test of collophanite was conducted in this research. The differences of collophanite flotation behavior and the effects of the different pH values, varieties, and dosage of collector on flotation separation of collophanite were studied. It is suggested that that in pure water, collophanite had a negative charge within a wide pH range. The electro negativity values of collophanite increased with the addition of collectors GJBW and WF-01. When GJBW and WF-01 were used as collectors, the collophanite was depressed in acid medium, but had a good flotability in basic medium.

Banded hematite jasper (BHJ) containing 45.2% Fe, 32.64% SiO2, 0.63 % Al2O3 and 1.25 % LOI is found difficult to beneficiate either by magnetic or flotation techniques due to fine intergrowth of jasper with hematite. Phase transformation by reduction roasting with activated charcoal followed by low intensity magnetic separation to achieve a suitable iron concentrate has been attempted in this study. The mineralogy of the ore and different roasted products has been studied by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) to understand the reduction mechanism. The magnetite formation is observed at 850ºC while metallic iron appeared at a higher temperature. The effects of reduction variables such as reduction time (30-270 min), temperature (750-1050ºC), and reductant (1-12 %) using activated charcoal are studied. An iron concentrate with 64.65% Fe and 55.8% recovery could be obtained under optimum conditions of temperature: 850ºC, time: 1.5 h, and reductant: 6% by weight.

"It is suggested that improvement of separation process efficiency in machines and circuits of selective flotation should be based on application of the principle of technology individualization (PIT). This principle is grounded on the following provisions.The mineral composition of ores is used to establish the correlation between the selective reagent mode and the individual value of hydrodynamic conditions of flotation machines together with individual structure of the process flow diagram. The individuality of all sorts of particles identified by methods of process mineralogy was characterized by their distribution according to the rate of flotation (or spectrum). The spectrum identification is carried out by modeling and by experimental and computational method on the data obtained on various types of laboratory flotation machines.The computer-aided test is used to determine the optimal fraction distribution, which reaches the highest possible level of concentration data. The direction of hydrodynamic factors action on concentration data is estimated based on comparison of design base and experimental spectrum. The improvement of separation efficiency in devices is achieved in special-purpose flotation machines (SFM) the design of which provides optimization of hydrodynamic regime in spatially isolated zones. It is demonstrated that the main parameter of SFM operating mode individualization is the rise rate of bubbles going from the chamber into the froth. During this time the composition of particles optimum for separation is formed on its surface. Additionally, it is necessary to coordinate in the zones the residence time of pulp and foam streams with the air consumption. The improvement of separation efficiency in flotation process flow diagrams may be achieved by making several cascades with SFM installed in them. The individual effective structure of the scheme for a definite ores material composition depends on the ratio of particle varieties in the spectrum and is revealed by modeling."

A red copper plate, discovered in the ruins of Dachengshan in Hebei province, was recognized as a forged one rather than a cast one, which means it was probably made from natural copper during the Longshan Culture period (2200~2208 BC) in the Chinese history. The copperware, found in the Niangniang Tai relics in Wuwei city, Gansu province, contains 99.6% copper and 0.4% Sn, Pb, Sb and Ni, which was guessed to be made during the Qijia Culture about 2000~ 1900 BC in the Chinese history in the late Neolithic before Shang dynasty. This shows that Chinese ancestors were able to distinguish, sort and use some native metals and minerals more than 4000 years ago.

High grade ore deposits in the world are fast depleting and the valuables in the low-grade ores are finely disseminated. The feed grade to flotation circuit is also declining. Attainment of suitable grind is preferred, which inevitably creates more fines of the gangue minerals to interfere with the flotation process because of the undue competition between the fines and the valuables for the collector ion adsorption. Besides the use of polymeric or long chain hydrocarbon depressants for the gangue mineral, microbial induced flotation also has potential to float minerals selectively. Thiobacillus ferroxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans adhere on the minerals to modify its surface properties and affect the minerals flotation acting as depressants. Hindustan Zinc has conducted laboratory studies to understand the adhesion of microorganism on the mineral surfaces and its impact on the selective flotation. The experiments were further designed to reduce consumption of depressing reagents for graphitic carbon, pyrite, and galena. Preliminary studies reveal that desired quality of concentrate can be achieved with reasonable recovery. The research and development of new, more selective collectors in order to improve flotation efficiency represent one of the main priorities in the development of innovative technologies pertaining to flotation separation of various substances and minerals. The use of collectors’ mixtures is considered as the universal instrument for ensuring necessary proportion of chemically and physically sorbed collecting reagents in every individual case. Currently hard-dressed, refractory ores and man-made raw materials, which are characterized by low content of valuable components, fine dissemination of mineral assemblages and similar technological properties of constituent minerals, are widely involved in the recycling processes. The possibility of processing tailings, which are left after flotation beneficiation, has been considered in the case study of tailings of the Zhezkazgan beneficiation plant and the Tishinsk copper ore deposit with utilization of the modified multifunctional flotation reagents. Modified poly-functional collector is the mixture of composite Aerofloat, TC-1000 and butyl xanthate. Reactants ratio is 1:1:3. The advantage of the suggested flotation reagents is that they are composed of two polar groups and have a long hydrocarbon radical. This structure, being in the water during flotation process, plays a dual role: first, as a collector adsorbing on the mineral surface it produces metal complexes with polar groups in the form of bridges; second, apolar radicals flocculate valuable slimed components, thereby intensifying flotation process. It has been shown that flotation of Zhezkazgan tailings with utilization of the lesser modified reagent amount compared to butyl xanthate has enabled to produce crude copper concentrate with 13.0 % copper grade and 80.22 %recovery. Compared to the baseline technology, copper content of crude concentrate has been increased by 5.1 % and the recovery by 31.4 %. It is shown that tailings flotation of the Tishinsky field by applying modified collector allows for increase of the of useful components extraction in a collective concentrate with: copper 9.63 %, lead for 8.41%, zinc 9.2 %, iron 2.73 %, gold 3.57 %.

"We studied the mechanism of structural and chemical transformations of columbite, tantalite, zircon and feldspar surface during the treatment by high – power electromagnetic pulses (HPEMP) using the methods of X - ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), analytical electron microscopy (SEM - EDX), Kelvin probe force microscopy and flotation experiments. According to XPS and SEM - EDX data, major changes in the atoms chemical state of investigated minerals surface are related with formation and modification of functional cover and changing in concentration (% at.) of hydroxyl groups on the mineral surface, leading to increase in the contrast of technological properties of the rare metals minerals. Research has identified the optimal parameters of HPEMP - treatment of rare - earth minerals Npuls ??104, Ttreatment ??100 sec. improving the selectivity of the flotation separation of columbite and zircon. The difference in mineral recovery into the froth (? e) before and after HPEMP - treatment was about 11 % and 24.5 %, respectively. No significant increase was observed in the flotation activity of feldspar. This study's findings demonstrate the effectiveness of HPEMP - treatment in inducing a controlled change in the structural and chemical properties of rare - earth minerals and improving the process efficiency for the processing of rougher tantalum - niobium gravity concentrates.INTRODUCTIONThe importance of improving the processing methods of tantalum-niobium ores and concentrates is explained by the mineralogical properties of rare - earth ores. These are properties such as the variable mineral, chemical, and grain size composition, complex morphometric properties, and the dissemination of ore mineral grains of micro - and nanometric size. Iron oxide and hydroxide films on the mineral surfaces neutralize the surface physicochemical and absorption properties of the minerals. Both in Russia and globally, nonconventional (non - mechanical) methods are being developed based on physicochemical, electrochemical, and pulsed energy impacts to improve the efficiency of disintegration and liberation processes of disseminated mineral complexes and to enhance the contrast of the structural, chemical, and technological (floatability) properties of refractory ores. This study is devoted to the investigation of the applicability of high – power electromagnetic pulses (HPEMP – treatment) for the change in the structural and chemical properties of rare - earth minerals and improving of the flotation properties contrast."

"The paper presents the results of research on the development of gold and silver extraction technology from refractory gold sulphide flotation concentrate of one deposits of Nord-East of Russia. The concentrate is due to the complex mineral composition. Gold and silver are finely disseminated in sulphide minerals (arsenopyrite and pyrite partially oxidized by 7-11%). These are characterized by high content of silver 219 g/t and sulphide sulfur 32%, the presence of poorly soluble silver minerals (silver sulfosalts, fahlore, finely dispersed hypergenic acanthite in iron hydroxides and jarosite, etc.), and impurity minerals capable of interacting with cyanide (pyrrhotite, marcasite, nonferrous sulphides) and causing higher than normal cyanide consumption. Pretreatment of refractory sulphide concentrate by biooxidation using a mixed association of mesophilic and moderately thermophilic bacteria at a temperature of 36-40 °C for 120 hours oxidized arsenopyrite by 97.5%, pyrite by 93.5%, unlocked refractory gold, and generally oxidized the minerals absorbing cyanide and oxygen before cyanidation. Further oxidation of these minerals-absorbents was facilitated by the aeration in calcareous medium of the solid biooxidation residues of the concentrate. Sorption cyanidation of the solid biooxidation residues with addition of lead (II) of recovered 91.2% of gold and 82.9% silver from biooxidation residue, compared with 80.1% and 46.6%, respectively, for sorption cyanidation without the preceding biooxidation step. Biooxidation of the concentrate prior to cyanidation improves the recovery of precious metals, especially silver, and significantly reduces cyanide consumption from 18.7 kg/t to 3-5 kg/t of concentrate. INTRODUCTION Biooxidation of gold sulphide concentrates using acidophilic microorganisms has been successfully applied worldwide (van Aswegen et al., 2007; Gericke et al., 2009; Sovmen et al., 2007; Sovmen et al., 2009). At least 15 full-scale plants for tank biooxidation of sulphide concentrates are presently in operation, and the construction of new ones is planned (Bulaev et al, 2015)."

In composite washeries optimization of operating parameters to achieve maximum clean coal yield at the desired clean coal ash level is a major problem. This problem is more acute in countries like India, which have predominant reserves of difficult-to-wash coals. The constrained operational parameters of washing for some equipments make it more severe. In addition to this, the dependence of separating performance of different equipments upon various variables aggravates the situation. Here an attempt is made to find a numerical solution to get maximum yield and minimize the difference between the actual and the theoretical yield. The solution is arrived through constrained non-linear optimization of a multivariable objective function that utilizes spreadsheet tools; the method accommodates any number of source coals or washing size fractions. By using a designed Ep value the predicted yield of composite clean coal has been calculated and the yield is optimized subject to constraints on both the ash and specific gravity. It is shown that operational constraints of different washeries in the composite plant that utilizes gravity separation methods can also be over-come. The technique offers the coal preparation engineer an effective and straightforward method for determining the optimum cut-points of separation for different coals or blended coals to obtain maximum product yield at a specified level of ash content.

"In case of free gold presence in ore, there is always problem of a choice between the gravity-flotation and gravity separation flowsheets. Study of morphology of gold being extracted by different methods allows to find the most efficient solution. One of the latest methods of gold concentration for wide range of grain size (-0.8+0 mm) is a flash flotation. The paper presents comparative testing results of flash and centrifugal separation.The goal of the studies was to determine process and flotation parameters of flash flotation. In case valued minerals are soft if compared to host rock, such minerals tend to concentrate into circulating load of grinding circuit. Thus, valued minerals can be overground, and in turn, will result in low extraction in flotation circuit. Integration of flash flotation operation into process flowsheet has been evaluated. Flash flotation operation can be successfully used not only for gold but also copper, lead, nickel and silver minerals.With low-sulphide ores being a case study under laboratory conditions, various flotation (impeller rotational speed, air flowrate) and process (pulp density, collector consumption, frother consumption, time of flotation) parameters were studied in view of its impact on gold flash flotation. Experiments were carried out under laboratory conditions using special pneumatic mechanical flotation machines.INTRODUCTIONGravity separation is used for extraction of coarse gold before cyanidation and before flotation of polymetallic ores to increase gold total recovery into gravity copper and lead concentrates.Benefit of the flash flotation is efficient recovery of coarse gold carrier particles (sulphides) thus preventing its regrinding and, as a result, low recovery. Furthermore, combination of flash and conventional flotation results in final tailings that do not require further cyanidation.Combined gravity-flotation flowsheets are designed for concentration of ores containing gold within thewide range of grain sizes (see Table 1)."

"Due to the influence of combustion conditions, the fly ash produced by some power plants has the problem of high-carbon content. The unburned carbon in fly ash can be removed by flotation, and the decarbon tailings should reach the national standard level I fly ash. The fineness of the requirement is one of the important indicators and is also an important factor affecting the tail ash activity. In this paper,adopting two methods investigate the effect of particle size on the flotation index: one is direct flotation of fly ash, and the other way is wet grinding + flotation of fly ash, comparing the two methods and selecting the appropriate process,which provides a way for the effective utilization of fly ash. INTRODUCTION Fly ash is a solid waste discharged from coal-fired power plants. The annual amount of emissions of fly ash are very large in China. The amount of fly ash were discharged from coal-fired power plants are increasing gradually, and the amount of fly ash stored has exceeded 2.5 billion tons, but the comprehensive utilization of fly ash is not high, which brings about a huge environmental problems( Lu et al.,2011). Carbon is a harmful component of fly ash in cement and concrete application (Zhang et al.,2008). Fly ash decarburization is an essential link to improve the utilization efficiency of fly ash and the reduce pollution ( Yang et al.,2012). Carbon is selected from fly ash to make full use of fly ash resources and improve utilization of fly ash (Li et al.,2008). In this paper, the flotation decarburization of high-carbon fly ash is studied, through comparing the grinding and not-grinding processes, optimizing the separation process of fly ash, which provides a way for the effective utilization of fly ash."

Many thickener operations continue to be constrained by their ability to process consolidated underflows with high yield stress and associated rheological characteristics. To maximise separation efficiencies within a thickener operation the use of both engineering and reagents are always considered. BASF is developing a Novel Flocculant Technology (NFT), which combines both of these aspects to enhance the performance of the thickener operation, improving the areas of pumping efficiency, underflow density and throughput. The development progression through stages of laboratory scale batch test work to pilot scale dynamic testing has demonstrated the ability of BASF NFT to maintain effective flocculation performance whilst increasing the rate of underflow consolidation, and significantly reducing the associated underflow yield stress of the treated material. This paper will present application data through full scale dynamic testing conducted on a granite washing circuit to demonstrate the performance benefits that NFT offers to a thickener operation. Compared to the conventional flocculant treatment, within the operation parameters and conditions employed during the full scale trials, the NFT produced a reduction in underflow rheology (yield stress) of around 45 % relative to a given solids and improved the underflow consolidation by providing at least 20% relative higher underflow solids loading than the upper limit of the given typical thickener operation.
