In the selection of copper ? molybdenum concentrates with the use of reagents containing sulfide ion ? sodium sulfide, sodium hydrosulfide etc for depression of copper minerals and pyrites, big part of depressor is oxidized by oxygen, which is dissolving in pulp during aeration with air in flotation machines and it is expended unproductively. This is the main reason for the big expenditures of depressor, reaching up 15~20 kg/t collective concentrate and the high exploitation expenditures for the copper ? molybdenum selection. Effective direction for lowering expenditure of depressor and increasing of the technical ? economical effectiveness of moly production is the conducting of the selection in nitrogen medium. In the paper are shown the results, obtained by applying of this direction in selection of collective copper ? molybdenum concentrate from the porphyry copper deposit ?Ellatzite? ? Bulgaria, in which the ratio Mo:Cu is over 1:120. In laboratory conditions, through comparative experiments in medium of air and nitrogen are defined: expenditure and initial concentration of NaHS in pulp for effective depression of copper minerals and pyrites; kinetics of flotation process of molybdenite; influence of pulp density; emf (negative milivolts) of pulp and the expenditure of nitrogen on tech-nological indexes of molybdenum flotation. When working in nitrogen medium decrease of NaHS in rougher molybdenum flotation from 40% to 45% is settled. When nitrogen is also fed in cleaner stages, the total expenditure of depressor is lowered by 64%. The quality of end molybdenum con-centrate is raised with over 5%. On the ground of the results of laboratory studies and of world practice data, an industrial installation for selection of copper ? molybdenum concentrate in nitrogen medium in Wemco inert ? gas machines.

A moderate thermophilic microorganisms, has been isolated (45?) from a typical sulphide mine in the region of Mo Jiang located in the southwest of China. The culture has been used to extract copper from chalcopyrite concentrates obtained from De Xing copper mine. The majority of experiments were carried out in 300mL Erlenmeyer flasks containing 150mL volumes of mineral suspension. Effects of some variable parameters such as solids concentration, pH and the concentrations of inorganic nutrients on the bioleaching of chalcopyrite obtained from De Xing copper mine were investigated. For a given concentrate the most important factor affecting the fractional copper extraction was the size of the mineral particles. The overall rate of leaching was found to be limited by the area of mineral surface. The attack started in cracks and genetic defects and finally reached the whole chalcopyrite surface. As a consequence of this, the ore showed strongly cracks. The additive of ferrous sulfate increases the bacteria activity, but did not improve chalcopyrite bioleaching. The results indicate that the nature and relative proportions of the various minerals present have been shown to be important factors.

The overall flow-sheet of producing chromium (III) sulfate is described in this paper. The suitable conditions of each process such as sintering, leaching, aluminum removal, reduction, and de-composition conditions were experimentally studied. The results show it is reasonable to produce chromium (III) sulfate with the flow-sheet pointed out in this research work. The final product is Cr2(SO4)3 solution contained 150~250g/L Cr.

The paper presents the results of research on the development of gold recovery technology from oxidized gold-copper ore of one of deposits in Russian Federation. Gold and copper grades in the ore are 9.5 g/t and 0.4%, respectively. Various options of flowsheets, such as direct cyanidation, thiourea leaching, flotation and gravity concentration followed by subsequent cyanidation of con-centration products, were tested. It was established that gravity-cyanidation technology with filtra-tion leaching tails and the use of solutions in the recirculation is the optimal option for ore treatment. The proposed flowsheet provides gold recovery for 91.0% at NaCN consumption 2.5 kg/t ac-cording to the results of pilot testing. Ammonia-cyanide gold leaching was also examined. In comparison with cyanidation, gold leaching solution in system NaCN-NH4OH-(NH4)2CO3 allows NaCN consumption to be reduced three times from 4.5 kg to 1.5 kg per 1 ton of the ore and provides the same gold recovery. Based on the laboratory and pilot plant tests results of gravity-cyanidation technology of gold dissolution, process design criteria were developed.

Until recently, in consideration of fundamentals of gravity concentration theory, all computations have been based on determination of particles? fall velocity in an unrestricted medium (hydraulic size). Meanwhile, gravity separation processes are realized under conditions of particles? restricted fall, when important and sometimes decisive role is played by interacting forces of particles, dependent on their varying size, density and shape, i.e., segregation forces. We have developed devices and methods for measuring segregation velocities of fine particles of various size, density and shape during their loosening in air or aqueous medium. Besides, to exclude influence of medium upward flows, loosening was provided by superposition of vertical harmonic oscillations on measuring cell. It was established, that maximum segregation velocities are observed at certain optimal acceleration values and amplitudes of oscillations; excessive loosening leads to mixing and worsening of segregation. Velocity of some particles segregation through others depends on particles? size, density and shape, as well as nature of medium (air, water). Absolute segregation velocities of particles in air medium may reach 1~2 mm/s, in aqueous medium such velocities are by an order smaller. Analysis of rare-metal sands material gravity concentration results showed, that owing to segregation process during gravity separation, fine-size isometric particles of heavy minerals are recovered into gravity concentrates more actively, than larger ones, but more elongated in shape. It is convenient and simple to estimate mineral grains? shape by extent of their oblongness, described as ratio of particle minimal dimension to maximum. Besides, mineral mixtures gravity separation results are directly related to extent of oblongness of heavy particles, recovered in gravity separation process, and also to root-mean-square coefficient of their shape variation. The performed research showed that particles segregation in gravity concentration process plays not a lesser role, than hydrodynamics parameters, and demands further theoretical inquiry and experimental studies.

Laboratory batch tests having preliminary and orientation character aiming at improvement of the molybdenum flotation at Ellatzite copper processing plant in Bulgaria have been conducted. The following technological parameters have been screened to study their influence on the grade and recovery of copper and molybdenum during the rougher flotation stage: flotation pulp density, pH, addition of secondary collector and replacement of MIBC by pine oil as a frother. The results have shown that slightly better grade/recovery figures could be obtained for both copper and molybdenum at lower flotation pulp densities. The addition of kerosene has improved the recovery of molybdenum however, on the expense of that of copper. The effects from pH variation and the replacement of MIBC by pine oil as a frother have been almost negligible.

With the ambitious target of adding another 2,00,000 MW of power generation by the year 2017 in India the demand for coal is bound to grow. The non-coking coal deposits in India are characterized as high ash and difficult-to-wash coals. Quality improvement by beneficiation is almost mandatory due to MoEF notification to use <34% ash coal for all power plants except those located at pithead. Most of the coal washeries in India are based on wet process, where the coal fines are allowed to settle in thickeners. The coarser particles settle faster leaving the fine particles suspended for longer period. The dispersed fine coal particles contain some surface charge, which leads to the development of electrical repulsion between the particles, and as a result of this, the suspension becomes more stable. In order to destabilize the colloidal suspension, flocculants are usually added, so that the settling rate of the fine particles also increases. These flocculants are of cationic, anionic and non-anionic depending upon the type of charge released when dispersed in water. The flocculants may act partly for charge neutralization and partly for inter particle bridging and electrostatic patch formation. The effectiveness of any type of flocculants depends upon the molecular weight and charge density of the polymer. In the region of the North-Bohemian Coal Basin and its environment, there, in a row of places, are found the accumulations of rocks of the sedimentary and pyro clastic origin, the preliminary composition of those shows the possibility of their being utilized for the production of ecologically sparing natural Fe- and Ti- pigments and filling substances. In many places of the regions of Chomutov and Podborany and near Bilina and also in other places, there are found raw stocks perspective for the preparation of yellow up to ochre-brown, red, brown-red and green dyes. The target of project is the verification of dispensable reserves, their mineralogical composition and chemical and physical attributes, verification of treatment ways of Fe-and Ti-pigments separation (hydrocyclones, magnetic and electrostatic separation) and their stabilization and technological painting attributes for applications in colors, coating and plastic masses, mortar mixtures etc.

At Tata Steel, Coal is washed in gravity and froth flotation circuit at 13-15 mm size and below. Being coal is high in ash (~35%) and difficult washability characteristics (having high (~40 %) NGM at desired ash levels) needs more and timely quality data of ROM for effective optimization and process control. Conventional approach of supplying quality data takes 4-5 hours time. This means during this period, it is assumed that coal is having similar characteristics as of previous set and it is not possible to fine tune during this time which resulted in yield loss. Hence producing clean coal on agreed ash value consistently is a challenging task because of high NGM and variation in input quality. To overcome the problem of collection of representative sample and timely result a new technology was adopted Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) technology which is basically an online analyser using Gamma rays as the source to measure the ash content in coal running on a conveyor which gives real time ash analysis. A new short combined flow sheet including high intensity magnetic separation and flotation for a rare earth ore in Maoniuping deposit, China has been investigated. Massive conclusive results demonstrate, that it is critical to separate the ore by high intensity magnetic separation prior to flotation for tons of slimes and nonmagnetic gangue existing. The vital technological parameters affecting flotation have been studied in detail. Modified hydroxamic acid is an efficient collector for bastnasite flotation because of its high selectivity. Flotation results also indicate high temperature that play an unfavourable role on the recovery as well as the grade of bastnasite concentrate, when the rare earth ore is floated with modified hydroxamic acid and sodium silicate depressant. Bastnasite concentrates, averaging over 65 percent REO at an overall recovery of 82-84% is achieved by the new beneficiation technology. "In order to improve recovery efficiency of iron minerals from iron ore tailings and to reduce its connected environmental pollution, this article investigated the reducing roasting of iron ore tailing in a laboratory fluidized magnetization roasting reactor to optimize the roasting method and conditions. The examined parameters included roasting temperature, roasting time and reducing atmosphere. The parameters evaluating magnetizing roast efficiency and theoretical value were determined. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was used to investigate the conversion of iron phase after roasting. The results show that the best magnetizing roast conditions are roasting temperature of 540?, holding time of 15min, and CO concentration of 20%. The magnetization conversion ratio of roasting products is over 80%, under the best magnetic separation condition, the concentrate grade of iron is 65.61 % and the recovery of iron is 83.77 %. The XRD analysis shows that Fe exists in hematite and siderite before roasting and exists in magnetite after roasting. The technique not only recovers the iron minerals from tailings with good economic benefit, but also reduces the environmental pollution of tailings accumulation.INTRODUCTION Iron ore tailings are the solid wastes generated during the beneficiation process of iron ore concentration and are one of the main pollution concerns in the mining industry (Das et al., 1996). Continuous development of the iron and steel industry has led to the increasing amount of iron ore tailings; there are over 300 million tons of iron ore tailings discharged per year (Rao et al., 2016). The huge amount of stockpiled iron ore tailings brings a series of environmental and social problems. Comprehensive utilization of iron ore tailings can not only reduce environmental load but also conserve resources, promoting sustainable development of the society. In recent years, iron ore tailings as secondary resources have received considerable attention in many countries in the word and numbers of studies on utilization of iron ore tailings were carried out, such as recycling the valuable minerals (Datta et al., 1996; Jia et al., 2013; Panda et al., 2018), used in construction material compositions as alternative source of raw materials (Das et al., 2012; Zhou et al., 2012; Luo et al., 2016) and other utilization. The iron minerals were recovery by magnetization roasting (Rao et al., 2016; Yang et al., 2013; Yang et al., 2011) and flotation (Kumar and Mandre, 2016). By comparison the reduction roasting has more advantages, but it was found that the conventional roasting equipment was inefficient, high energy consumption and un-economically applied on an industrial-scale."

Laboratory scale experiments were conducted to produce titanium-rich material from Panzhihua ilmenite. The results showed preoxidation with sodium salt additive especially for Na2B4O7 signif- icantly advance the reduction of iron in Panzhihua ilmenite. Acceleration mechanism of preoxidation with Na2B4O7 has been studied here. The maximum metallization of iron 92% can be obtained under conditions of preoxidation at 850? for 30 min and subsequent reduction at 1100? for 150 min. The rusting separation technique to reduced ilmenite has been further studied, obtaining titanium-rich product with TiO2 over 82% and the recovery of TiO2 above 97%.

The introduction and subsequent ascendancy of autogenous and semi-autogenous milling for comminution circuits has undoubtedly lead to many economic advantages. From a process viewpoint, however, at least one downside has been the sensitivity of these machines to process input variations. Foremost among these is ore competence, though feed size comes a close second. This sensitivity is due to the reliance of ag/sag mills on the feed ore for their grinding media competence and size. Autogenous (ag) mills are the most sensitive in this respect with semi-autogenous (sag) mills being increasingly less so as the ball charge is increased. Increasingly designers and operators are recognising the importance of feed size and the benefits of manipulating it to improve performance. This has been achieved by installing additional crushing/screening capacity ahead of the ag/sag, better operation of the primary crusher, better control of segregation cased by stockpiles and bins and by changing blast design/practices to modify the ROM size distribution. This paper describes the influence of feed size distribution on ag/sag mill performance with reference to a range of plant data. It particularly concentrates on how changing blasting practice to modify ag/sag feed size can have a considerable overall benefit.

The paper elaborates on the significance of producing ultra-low-moisture ore concentrate, the operating principle and technical features of thermocompression- filtration process, the kinetics involved in the dewatering process, and the technological process system and equipment used. It is pointed out that it is possible to reduce the moisture of fine ore concentrate to a minimum. By way of example, the case of the treatment of flotation molybdenum (Mo) using the thermocompression- filtration process is cited.

Calaverite is a gold telluride found in the Kalgoorlie region, Fiji, Cripple Creek Colorado and numerous other locations. It is known that a high pH is necessary for calaverite cyanidation, with the leach rate increasing substantially above pH 12 due to the hydroxide ion concentration. In most circumstances lime is used to achieve high pH, however lime saturates at approximately pH 12, limiting the maximum pH obtainable in a critical region for calaverite leaching. Plant observations, laboratory experiments and thermodynamic modelling show that the maxi-mum hydroxide ion concentration that can be achieved with lime (CaO) is strongly dependent on common ions. The presence of calcium, as commonly found in saline waters, substantially diminishes the maximum pH that can be obtained with lime. Conversely the presence of sulfate ions, as generated through oxidation of sulfides, substantially increases the maximum pH that can be achieved with lime. Sulfide oxidation during cyanide leaching of complex ores may generate acid and sulfate ions, making overdosing with lime at the front of the circuit, or staged addition down the leach train, important to maintaining the maximum hydroxide concentration.

The main reason of flotation process fluctuations is mixing ores of various properties from various sections of a deposit. Other, also important reasons are changes in parameters of facilities of technological cycle, as well as properties of reagents applied. According to estimates, instability and non-optimized parameters of flotation owe 3% to 6% of valuable component losses. Without ore averaging systems flotation process is characterized by considerable fluctuations of all input, output and intermediate parameters. Stab One more way is optimizing the process, providing for determination and maintaining optimal parameters of the process. In these conditions application of various mathematic models does not allow controlling the process by the way of action on input parameters of the process with further precise reaching required values of output parameters. More effective is to be application of flotation models for solution of questions of choosing and optimizing of automatic control systems. The work presented examples of application mathematic model of flotation process for estimation of effectiveness and choice of parameters of automatic control system that reduces considerably a stage of preliminary studies in elaboration, designing and modernizing automatic control systems.

During the last decade the output of mining companies has increased rapidly. The key driver is the increase in demand for raw materials in the developing world, and thus this demand has driven up ore prices. From the time when the Raw material group (year 2000) started to introduced their index, it was set to 100 points. Today, year 2011, the index is over 400, which means that ore prices have quadrupled since then. Mine companies have to go deeper in the mines to access the ore bodies to increase the mine capacity and to be able to respond to the market. By going deeper in the mine, there will be new challenges that have to be considered. One of these challenges is how to handle the mine water that is produced in the mine. The water has to be moved to the surface in order to keep the mine from flooding, and this causes more challenges. One solution is to pump the mine water up to the surface without treatment; however, this causes considerable pump wear and the water will still require treatment on the mine?s surface. Another solution is to treat this water in the mine before pumping it to the surface. Metso Minerals has a system solution to treat the mine water, by separating the solids from the mine water. This system reduces the erosion in the pumps and will save many maintenance hours in the long term. One other option is to use the treated water in a closed circuit and reuse it in the process. This system can be divided into three steps: Firstly, a spiral dewaterer to remove the coarse solid particles. For the next step, lamella thickener is used to remove most of the solids, and lastly tube press to handle the sludge from the underflow lamella thickeners. We studied the feasibility of automated mineralogy to discriminate between tennantite and enargite, the main sulfosalts found in the Rio Blanco deposit, Codelco-Chile, in order to predict the content of minor elements (As, Sb, Ag, Pb, Zn) that impact on the process and concentrate prices. The identification of these minerals is feasible using traditional microscopy, however not possible by automated mineralogy. This drawback prevents comparing the databases generated in the past by means of conventional microscopy with the information obtained at present by QEMSCAN. To differentiate enargite from tennantite the mineral composition of both sulfosalts was studied by electron microprobe. The presence of associated minor element contents of about 8% zinc in tennantites and not exceeding 0.07% in enargites were used to modify the SIP database of QEMSCAN to enable the quantification of these phases in samples of head, residue and concentrate coming from As-bearing domains of the deposits. Detection limits allowed to determine the mineral species in the head, concentrate and residues. The integration of methodologies such as automated mineralogy and microprobe can be used successfully to quantify the presence of some ore forming solid solution.

A national project of ?Establishing ?Green-Hydrogen (G-H)? Society in Honjo-Waseda Area? is now being developed by Waseda University together with four other universities and ten companies. The project involves three tasks of technological development of, (1)?G-H? production, (2)?G-H? refining, transportation and storage, and (3)?G-H? utilization. This paper focuses the first task of ?G-H? production from aluminium dross. We developed the physical treatment process by combining selective grinding with vibrating rod mill and electrostatic separation, in order to produce two kinds of materials, one is metal aluminium concentrate to recover it and the other is raw material to produce ?G-H? and aluminium hydroxide which can be generated by the treatment with sodium hydroxide aqueous solution. Here, we described the concentration mechanism of metal aluminium in the selective grinding and electrostatic separation and proposed a separation flowchart for optimizing the ?G-H? system in Honjo-Waseda area.

Biohydrometallurgical studies were performed on the sulfide gold-arsenic concentrate obtained in treatment of refractory ore from a deposit located in northern Russia. Gold is disseminated in sulfides-arsenopyrite, pyrite and antimonite (their content is 10.0%, 30.4% and 0.7%, respectively). Gold extraction is only 11.8% by cyanidation. Results are given for test bacterial oxidation of the concentrate in continuous mode at temp. = 28~32°C using mesophilic bacteria and at temp. = 32~38°C using the association including moderate thermophilic bacteria. The paper shows that the use of moderate thermophilic bacteria allows to speed up sulfide biooxidation and reduce its time to 96 hours compared to leaching at temp. = 28~32°C for 110~120 hours. The optimal range of pH = 1.5~2.0 of biooxidation process was determined where bacterial solutions are produced with the molar ratio Fe:As > 3 necessary for precipitation of hard-to-solve, environmentally safe arsenical precipitates. Electron microscopy showed that sulfide biooxidation results in liberation of disseminated gold with nanoparticle-level sizes. High sorptive activity of carbonaceous matter and other compounds of bacterial residues cause low gold extraction into cyanide solution ? 28.7%. 10% resin load makes it possible to extract 88.1% Au. Aeration of pulp in calcareous medium enhances extraction to 95.7% and decreases cyanide consumption from 17kg/t to 8 kg/t.
