The Pb,Sb,Zn multi-metal sulphide ore is processed in sequence of beneficiation of jamesonite, sphalerite . Due to relative large amount of collector (xanthate), activator (CuSO4) and regulator (lime) during different flotation stage, the flotation wastewater from sphalerite beneficiation stage can’t be directly recycled to the first lead flotation stage. In this paper, the flotation wastewater from sphalerite beneficiation stage was treated by Ozone and BAC technology, results showed that when the influent concentation of COD and copper ion were 850 mg/L, 10.48mg/L respectively, the Ozone and BAC technology could effectively treat such type of water. In the treated wastewater, the COD is 60mg/L, copper ion concentration is 0.023mg/L, pH is 7.0, which satisfy the need of Pb,Sb-Zn preferential floatation separation process. After recycle of the treated wastewater to Pb,Sb floatation circuit, qualified Pb,Sb concentrate and Zn concentrate were obtained.

The influence of microwave energy at high electric field strength on ore strength has been investigated. Two ores of varying mineralogy were treated in both multimode and single mode microwave cavities. After treatment, any change in strength relative to untreated ore was established. It was shown that in the multimode cavity reduction in strength was related to the applied power level. Results of tests carried out in the single mode cavities showed that, for both ores, reductions in ore strength > 50% could be achieved in very short periods (<1 second). Thermal stress analysis showed that the mechanism of microwave induced failure was the development of tangential stresses at the grain boundaries. It was concluded that operation at 915 MHz with high power and short residence times gives feasible scale-up possibilities.

"Recent improvements in the resolution of X-ray computed tomography (CT) make it a promising alternative to traditional time consuming, error prone laboratory procedures for mineral liberation analysis, such as heavy liquid fractioning and measurements on polished sections. All indications are that in a few years CT will be well-established in many laboratories as a rapid technique for accurate liberation studies. In this scenario it would be able to provide liberation spectra or washability data in tens of minutes following sampling. However, although CT is a fast evolving technology, its on-line application is unlikely in the foreseeable future.Dual-energy (DE) radiography is another X-ray technique originating from non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and medical fields, which allows retrieval of the volumetric content of valuable components from two-phase particles in a fraction of second. Two radiographic images at different X-ray energies of a single particle or a monolayer of particles are taken in short time sequence. The thickness of the two phases is calculated particle by particle by image subtraction, whereupon particle grades can be derived. The development of the method for on-line applications requires the presentation of non-overlapping particles in the gap in the X-ray source detector measurement couple. Straightforward extension of the principle to multiphase systems is not possible. The paper reviews the state of the art of these two techniques as applied to mineral liberation problems."

High Pressure Grinding Roll (HPGR) is efficient equipment in comminution process. HPGR could be a good option for preparing ball mill feed at the first stage of grinding due to its high efficiency and low energy consumption. Closing with a screen, these mills are utilizing as one of the principle parts in mineral processing industries, especially for iron ores. Recently, HPGRs are working as primary mills at 4 developing lines in Gol-e-Gohar Iron Ore Processing Complex, Iran. Different mechanism of particle crushing in compare to the other tumbling mills makes the HPGR as certain equipment with its own particular controlling parameters. Hydraulic pressure, roller speed and level of material inside feeding hopper are the most important variables influencing grinding efficiency of the HPGR. To figure out how they impress the process and operation situation, different industrial tests were carried out and the best result (d80 about 8 mm for HPGR discharge) was achieved at 180-190 bar pressure (P), 300 rpm speed (S) and 50% of hopper level (L). It is worth noting that this finding has been observed through past pilot test too. We also used design expert method (DX7 software) to develop the best design and analysis the test results, as well. According to the mechanical restriction of HPGR and process limitation in the plant (based on the industrial results), we adjusted value of each parameter in a logical range. Therefore, 20 industrial tests were conducted, as DX7 recommended, and the various impacts of the parameters and their interaction were identified based on statistical analysis. As the authors expected, it was revealed that after presser, roller speed is a critical variable because of its significant role in residence time of the particles between the rollers. The function below has been determined to explain the relation between different parameters and the response.

"Selective dispersion-flocculation is considered to be an effective process for the beneficiation of ultrafine particles. This process is based on the preferential adsorption of a flocculant on the mineral particles to be flocculated, leaving rest of the mineral suspended. It has been successfully implemented at plant scales for the beneficiation of ultrafine particles of iron ores, for which conventional methods such as gravity separation, magnetic separation and flotation do not work efficiently. However, the key element responsible for the success of any selective flocculation process is the appropriate choice of the flocculant used for achieving the desired selectivity. At our lab, we are working on design and development of such selective reagents for mineral processing applications, including the beneficiation of iron ore slimes, using a combined molecular modeling and experimental approach. In this study we have employed density functional theory (DFT) to calculate the interaction energies and explain the interaction mechanisms of chitosan with the main minerals present in iron ore slimes, namely, hematite [a-Fe2O3], goethite [a-FeO(OH)], gibbsite [a-Al(OH)3] and kaolinite [Al2Si2O5(OH)4]. The magnitudes of the computed interaction energies follow the trend: Hematite > Goethite > Gibbsite ~ Kaolinite Al-OH terminated > Kaolinite Si-O terminated Analysis of the optimized geometries and electronic structures reveals that the O & N atoms of chitosan molecule form coordinate bonds with surface Fe-atoms of hematite while only weak hydrogen bonds are formed in the case of goethite, gibbsite and kaolinite surfaces thus explaining reasons behind the stronger interactions with the hematite surface. The theoretical findings were validated by performing selective flocculation experiments using chitosan as a flocculant. The selective flocculation experimental results show that a final concentrate of ~60% Fe can be obtained from a feed containing 53.13% Fe with Fe recovery of 74%. The mineral estimation in the obtained concentrate indicated that hematite and goethite are recovered in concentrate while gibbsite and kaolinite are rejected in the tails. These observations were consistent with our theoretical findings. Our work highlights the promising role molecular modeling techniques such as DFT can play in the design and development of selective reagents for beneficiation of alumina-rich iron ore slimes."

Gravity-fed three-product dense medium cyclone(GTDMC)is usually used as the main coal washing equipment in coking coal preparation plant. It can produce three products with a low density suspension at the same time. Raw coal and dense medium are fed separately into the cyclone. Only the qualified low-density medium suspension is pumped into the cyclone while the raw coal is fed into the first-stage 1200mm cyclone axially at the top end by gravity. The 1200mm cyclone with a cylindrical form is for low-density separation. The clean coal with light density and slower-settling velocity moves directly towards the low pressure zone along the axis and is carried through the vortex-finder to the overflow. Only the heavy products pass through the "separating zones" to the wall of 1200mm cyclone and then migrate into the series-connected second-stage 850mm cyclone through the tangential outlet. The medium suspension from the first-stage cyclone is thickened and contains more magnetite coarse particles. The second-stage cyclone typically consists of a cylindrical section and conical part. These are all favorable for the second-stage cyclone to separate at a high density. Production practices show that the clean coal and the gangue rarely mixed in the middling, the lower limit of the separation is 0.2 mm, the Organic Efficiency and the Ecart probable of the first stage is 98.30% and 0.026 kg/L respectively.

"Lithium discovered in La Vi deposit, Quang Ngai province in the Central of Vietnam was estimated with a reserve of approximately 1.5 million tones of lithium ore, which was characterized by mainly lepidolite with muscovite, albite, and quartz. This study investigated reasonable flowsheet and optimal conditions of enrichment technology for lepidolite from the mined ore by flotation process, and producing Li2CO3 and LiCl from lepidolite concentrate by hydrometallurgical process. The significant conditions for froth flotation of lithium ore including particle size, pH of ore slurry, pulp density, chemical spending (collectors, activators, depressants, and frothers), stirring and flotation time were investigated. The identified reasonable flowsheet and optimal conditions for froth flotation the La Vi lithium ore processed lepidolite concentrate containing up to 4 wt.% Li2O with a recovery of 87.61 wt.%. The processes of sulfation roasting lepidolite concentrate using FeSO4.7H2O, then leaching in H2SO4 solution, and removing impurities were carried out to prepare a pure lithium-bearing solution for producing Li2CO3 and LiCl. The products containing 99.05 wt.% of Li2CO3 and 99.02 wt.% of LiCl were obtained with recoveries of 82.97 wt.% and 85.77 wt.%, respectively. The obtained results indicated that lithium ore in La Vi deposit can be processed to produce commercial lithium products and lead the study to develop technology for a new industry of lithium processing in Vietnam.INTRODUCTION Lithium is the lightest metal, which has many superior properties in both metal and compound (such as Li2CO3, LiCl...) states since its discovery in 1817 by Swedish chemist Johan August Arfwedson. Lithium is a favourable material for many high technology fields such as aerospace industry and chemical industry. Some industrial fields which present the main consumptions of lithium include ceramic, glass, aluminum alloy, lubricants, rechargeable Li-ion batteries, synthetic rubber, and pharmaceuticals. The worldwide production of lithium in 2014 was 31,700 tones, continually increased in 2015 of 5% presented 32,500 tones (USGS, 2016). The demand for lithium tends to increase because of the raising in consumption of lithium batteries. Lithium is mined from salar brines, mainly in Chile and Bolivia, but also from granites and pegmatites, which contain minerals with high lithium content such as spodumene - LiAlSi2O6 (Heinrich et al., 1978; Linnen et al., 2012); petalite - LiAlSi4O10 (Sitando & Crouse, 2012); zinnwaldite - KLiFe2+Al(AlSi3O10)(F,OH)2 (Paukov et al., 2010; Kondás J. & Jandová J., 2006); lepidolite - K(Li,Al)3(Si,Al)4O10(F,OH)2 (Luong et al., 2013); and amblygonite - LiAlPO4F (Garrett, 2004)."

Nowadays heap leaching has become established as a mineral processing technology for treatment of some low grade minerals such as copper, gold, and zinc, etc. Heap height, particle size, leach reagent consumption, and metal recovery are four important metallurgical parameters in a hydrometallurgical process like heap leaching. This paper investigated the effects of heap height and particle size on copper recovery as well as acid consumption. Three heap heights of 2, 4 and 6 meters and two particle size fractions of less than 25.4 mm and 50.8 mm were selected as variables in the experiments. The research results showed the inverse relation between heap height and copper recovery as well as acid consumption. Under given conditions, the copper recoveries of minus 25.4 mm ore are 78.63%, 66.27% and 52.88% higher than that of minus 50.8 mm samples for the heap heights of 2, 4, and 6 m, respectively. Certain types of rock phosphates of sedimentary origin are applied to acidic soils as fertilizer directly. Recent research in India showed that high grade rock phosphate in fine size when used as a mix with organic manure works as efficiently as di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) in alkaline soils. The rock phosphate from Jhamarkotra, India (sedimentary origin), Egypt (sedimentary origin) and South Africa (volcanic origin) showed good agronomic efficiency when used as Phosphate Rich Organic Manure (PROM). Further PROM shows equal residual effect. The results of efficiency of PROM made using two grades (+ 24% P2O5 and 34% P2O5) of rock phosphate mineral from Jordan show that low grade rock phosphate slimes are as effective as high grade phosphate concentrate when used in PROM. Also PROM is very effective in the saline soil of Eshidiya desert where DAP is not at all effective.

The overall flow-sheet of producing chromium (III) sulfate is described in this paper. The suitable conditions of each process such as sintering, leaching, aluminum removal, reduction, and de-composition conditions were experimentally studied. The results show it is reasonable to produce chromium (III) sulfate with the flow-sheet pointed out in this research work. The final product is Cr2(SO4)3 solution contained 150~250g/L Cr.

It has been fairly well established by many experiments that Thiobacillus ferrooxidans (T. ferrooxidans), also named Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans(Kelly and Wood, 2000),can depress the floatability of pyrite. However, the mechanisms governing the process have not been known completely. In the present investigation, wettability and electrokinetic studies were carried out to examine the surface chemical changes on pyrite before and after interaction with T. ferrooxidans or its secretions. Attachment of T. ferrooxidans to pyrite was observed using a scanning electron microscope. The results of experiments showed that, under certain conditions, T. ferrooxidans and its secretions would obviously change the surface electricity of pyrite and result in the iso-electric point of pyrite shifting notably. However, the surface wettability of pyrite hardly changed and its hydrophobicity increased little after interaction with T. ferrooxidans and its secretions. Based on the results of the present investigation it can be reasoned that the depression of floatability of pyrite is due to the reduction of surface free energy, rather than the increase of surface hydrophilicity of pyrite. The decrease of surface free energy weakens the attachment of collector to pyrite; during the process bacterial protein plays the most important role and the bacterial chemotaxis strengthens the effect.

"Microcrystalline silica impurities such as quartz and opal-CT commonly associated in bentonite should be controlled and removed as far as possible when bentonite is used as biocompatible raw material because they show sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity. Since opal-CT contained in bentonite in trace amounts cannot be well separated by conventional sedimentation method, in this work, the ultrasound-assisted removal of the impurity was attempted. Irradiating ultrasound into bentonite-water suspension promoted the production of fine montmorillonite particles in the suspension and the production markedly increased when montmorillonite was activated by Na2CO3. Subsequent centrifugation of the suspension made it possible to recover pure montmorillonite particles as an overflow product. Only 16.2 mass % of total solids was recovered as an overflow from the non-activated suspension, whereas 63.5 mass % was recovered from the activated suspension at centrifuging speed of 10000 rpm. Increasing sonicating time enhanced the yield of overflow, however, excessive sonication up to 10 min hindered the purification of montmorillonite. It was observed that the peak reflection of (101) plane of opal-CT in overflow increased as sonicating time increased during prolonged sonication. INTRODUCTION Bentonite consisting predominantly of mineral montmorillonite is clay-rich soft rock generated frequently from the alteration of volcanic ash. Depending on the nature of its genesis, bentonite contains a variety of accessory minerals, which may include mainly quartz, feldspar, opal cristobalite/tridymite (opal-CT), calcite, illite and mica. The presence of these accessory minerals can impact the industrial value of the deposit, reducing its commercial value depending on its applications. Therefore, bentonite is often purified by removing these impurity minerals for special applications where specific properties and characteristics are required (Murray, 1999). Among the special applications, bentonite is often used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry as both excipient and active ingredient in the forms of liquid (suspensions, emulsions), semi-solid (creams, ointments) and solid (powder, capsules and tablets). The basic requirements for bentonite to be used as raw material are pure, microbiological and mineralogical inertness. Physical properties such as swelling volume and gel formation are also important. Particularly, microcrystalline silica polymorphs such as quartz, cristobalite and opal-CT should be controlled and removed as far as possible because they show sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans."

Ore characterisation including mineralogy and beneficiation testwork of an ore is very important for determination of possible products and their quality. The results of such study help in ascertaining the beneficiation process route for the ore. The present study deals with ore characterisation study and beneficiation testwork on the samples of hematite iron ore with goethite impurity. The characterisation study reveals that the hematite is under alteration stage to goethite which has become an integral part of hematite. High goethite/limonite content is enhancing the loss of ignition content of the ore and reducing its Fe content. The findings indicate that in case of hematite iron ore associated with goethite and limonite, it is difficult to achieve high grade of concentrate above 65% Fe. It depends on the amount of goethite and limonite minerals and their association with hematite. These minerals contain aluminous impurities and hence, their rejection becomes essential. Separation of limonite and of goethite to limited extent is possible. In case of goethite, effective liberation is not achieved where it occurs as surface alteration product of hematite grains. The gangue mineral reported are clay and gibbsite, and are closely associated with iron minerals. The test work results indicate the grade and recovery of Fe along with alumina and silica content in lumps, sinter fines and pellet feed fines that can be achieved for the different ore types vis-a-vis the percent of available hematite in the ore. The recovery of iron is dependent on the hematite available and the loss of iron values in tailings is more because of rejection of limonite and goethite.

"Seafloor massive sulphide (SMS) deposits have been identified as important marine metal resources for the future. However, literature on mineral processing of SMS is currently limited, and to date, no research has been published on processing of SMS from either active or inactive hydrothermal vent fields on the Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge. In this paper, individual SMS rock samples from the Loki’s Castle area were tested. Chalcopyrite, isocubanite and sphalerite represented the main copper and zinc bearing minerals in the SMS samples, whereas the gangue consisted of barite and silica. Based on the X-ray transmission response (XRT), i.e. differences in the atomic number of elements in tested samples, and using portable XRF (PXRF) values of elemental composition, individual particles were classified as a either product (low barium / high to low silicon / high copper and zinc) or waste (high barium / high silicon / low copper and zinc). The classification was based on the elemental composition of the samples with the cut-off grade equal to 0.5% for copper. It was shown that the XRT discrimination analysis correlated well with elemental (PXRF) data classification. The results clearly indicate that X-ray transmission sensor-based sorting can be used a useful technique for preconcentration of SMS rock samples. INTRODUCTION Due to different compositions of investigated samples, sensor-based sorting is a useful technique for preconcentration of different materials. The aim of using sensor-based sorting is to upgrade an ore by reducing the quantity of overall waste material reporting to the next processing stage. This can be achieved by eliminating (reducing) the waste fraction. By applying sensor-based sorting, the energy consumption for particle comminution as well as the required process water and reagents can be decreased. The total volume of the waste rejection leads to a proportional reduction in the total energy costs (Lessard et al., 2014, 2016)."

At Tata Steel, Coal is washed in gravity and froth flotation circuit at 13-15 mm size and below. Being coal is high in ash (~35%) and difficult washability characteristics (having high (~40 %) NGM at desired ash levels) needs more and timely quality data of ROM for effective optimization and process control. Conventional approach of supplying quality data takes 4-5 hours time. This means during this period, it is assumed that coal is having similar characteristics as of previous set and it is not possible to fine tune during this time which resulted in yield loss. Hence producing clean coal on agreed ash value consistently is a challenging task because of high NGM and variation in input quality. To overcome the problem of collection of representative sample and timely result a new technology was adopted Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) technology which is basically an online analyser using Gamma rays as the source to measure the ash content in coal running on a conveyor which gives real time ash analysis. Laboratory test equipment and methods have undergone relatively little change since their introduction in the 1950’s. The Denver sub-A cell is still by far the most commonly used laboratory batch cell, but bottom-driven and instrumented cells are beginning to appear. Test procedures have also changed little over the past 60 years, and most engineers continue to rely on empirical models for predicted plant scale performance from laboratory scale tests. This approach is problematic, because changes in the froth phase characteristics in the lab hamper the reliability and reproducibility of the empirical extrapolation to plant scale. In a previous work, the authors reported on the impact of froth recovery at the laboratory cell, showing that variability in the froth recovery can lead to significant error in the modeled kinetic rate constant unless it is properly accounted for in the scale-up model. In this work, we review the role of hydraulic entrainment in the lab cell, and how variability in particle specific gravity, shape factor, and froth residence time can impact the entrainment recovery.

Vanadium-beard bone coal is one of important vanadium resources in China.To extract vanadium tailings from Stone coal is produced after extracted vanadium from stone coal through the roasting, leaching and other processes. About 120-150 tons of tailings will be produced in extracting 1 ton of vanadium pentoxide. A lot of tailings that are willfully piled up have caused serious environmental pollution and wasting of resources; it is therefore necessary to realize its resource utilization. This study increases the activity of vanadium tailings by means of alkali fusion, and then uses different alkali activators to react with vanadium tailings so that geopolymer with high value added is produced. Sample of geopolymer is acquired from a mixture containing vanadium tailings, alkali activators, water and a little sodium aluminate through compression-molding process under 20MPa pressure. After cured in room temperature for three days, the maximum compressive strength of the sample can reach 36.2MPa. XRD analysis indicates quartz, the major crystal phase in vanadium tailings is decomposed,and the activity of vanadium tailings is heightened. FTIR and SEM analyses show: structural change having an important impact on the mechanical strength of geopolymer occurred during the process of vanadium tailings generating geopolymer.

The paper describes the results of studies performed with a view to develop an improved technology for processing high-grade massive and cupriferous ores of the Talnakh deposit, the main valuable components being nickel, copper and PGM. The studies? main task was production of nickel concentrate with nickel content of approx. 15%, nickel recovery being as high as possible. The studies were performed on two ore samples. One sample was a mix containing high-grade massive (78%) and cupriferous (22%) ores with nickel content of 1.93% and copper content of 3.6%; the other sample was a mix of high-grade ores with nickel content of 2.25% and copper content of 3.72%. Main ore minerals were copper sulfides ? chalcopyrite and cubanite, their total content being 10.5% ~ 11%, pentlandite (5.2% ~ 6.1%) and pyrrhotite (36.7% ~ 42.9%). Influence of grinding media on pentlandite and pyrrhotite separation results, achieved through combined use of triethylenetetramine (TETA) and sodium sulfite (SS), was also investigated. It is shown, that combined application of TETA/SS in the ratio of 1:2, permits to grind products in metal mill (mild steel) with metal balls (mild steel), achieving results that are similar to those achieved by means of grinding in inert grinding media with TETA/SS ratio of 1:1. Application of the developed technology provided for production of high-grade nickel concentrate with nickel content of 14.7% ~ 15.6%, nickel recovery being 76 % ~ 77%. Earlier experiments performed on the above mentioned ore mix permitted to produce nickel concentrate with nickel content of 10%, nickel recovery being 75.9%. Consequently, nickel content was increased by 4.7% ~ 5.6%, and a higher nickel recovery was achieved. The paper also describes metallurgical results related to nickel, copper and PGM with regard to all processing products.

Small manganese ore bodies in south Odisha, India occurs both as stratiform and stratabound ore bodies. These two ore bodies show contrasting mineralogical, petrographical and chemical characteristics. Stratiform type of Mn-ores consists of manganese, iron and silicate- phases in approximately same proportion. In contrast, stratabound ore bodies contain a high proportion of manganese oxides, silicates and phosphorus phases. Phosphorus is found within apatite in the stratabound ore bodies while in the stratiform ore it occurs as an adsorbed state with iron phase (goethite). Both ore bodies are low-grade (17-23% Mn) therefore do not have a market value. However, the stratabound ores are enriched in phosphorus (P2O5: >1%) compared to the stratiform ores. Both the ore types were processed through gravity, magnetic and roast reduction followed by magnetic separation techniques. The strata bound ore could be upgraded to 33% Mn from a feed of 23% by combination of dry and wet magnetic separation methods. But the phosphorus content also suits up (P2O5: 1.2%) in the processed product making it unsuitable for further use. The stratiform ores do not respond to either gravity or magnetic separation because of close association of manganese with iron phases. However, this could be beneficiated through roast reduction followed by magnetic separation. An ore with 17% Mn content could be upgraded to 40% Mn with a 42% yield and 78% recovery. The goethite, having phosphorus, converts to magnetite and is retained within the magnetic fraction, thereby reducing the concentration of phosphorus in the non-magnetic fraction, which becomes the product. This report demonstrates the influence of ore petrology in determining the up-gradational potential of manganese ore in the southern Odisha, India. Laboratory scale experiments were conducted to produce titanium-rich material from Panzhihua ilmenite. The results showed preoxidation with sodium salt additive especially for Na2B4O7 signif- icantly advance the reduction of iron in Panzhihua ilmenite. Acceleration mechanism of preoxidation with Na2B4O7 has been studied here. The maximum metallization of iron 92% can be obtained under conditions of preoxidation at 850? for 30 min and subsequent reduction at 1100? for 150 min. The rusting separation technique to reduced ilmenite has been further studied, obtaining titanium-rich product with TiO2 over 82% and the recovery of TiO2 above 97%.
