The detailed researches of a broad circle of problems connected to development of the electric pulse method destruction materials (EPD) of a various nature and area of use are executed. The electrical and power characteristics of process, physical fundamentals of selectivity of a breakdown and destruction are investigated, the device of electric pulse (EP) disaggregation and ?omminution of materials are developed, the technological efficiency of disintegration of industrial minerals estimated. Due to its technological advantages, the EPD could have a great potential in minerals mining and processing technologies. Low specific power and weight-and-size characteristics of EP installations based on the existing out-of-date electric equipment are at present the main reasons hindering the effective application of the method in mining and processing technologies. The main studies carried out in Russia in the field of electro technical equipment development for EP technology are presented. The pulse capacitors service life affects greatly the economic efficiency of the process because the capacitors cost accounts for a considerable, and in some cases, the most part of the operational costs. Determined and analyzed in the study are the ways which could significantly improve the specific characteristics of high voltage pulse generators (VPG), such as to use of high-frequency voltage transformation to develop a charger; to use pulse transformers (PT) with iron magnetic circuits made of materials characterized by high magnetic permeability, in pulse generating circuits; as well as to use special ways which could produce voltage pulses with a short front. The experiments have proved the possibility to adapt these technological solutions for EP devices, and a further strategy of the EP technologies development and application has been suggested on this base. "The recycling of waste car tyres is a very important environmental task. The waste tyres usually are re-used or recycled by thermal processes like pyrolysis, gasification or incineration. The main problem associated with these processes is the sulphur content of waste tyres originated from the vulcanisation process, which pollutes the environment and the valuable products (i.e. pyrolysis oil) as well. In our research the desulphurisation of waste, mechanically prepared tyre sample was systematically investigated by the biosolubilisation with Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, strain Karitas. Parallel, the experiments with sterile 9K nutrient medium were also carried out. It was found that the vulcanisation sulphur can be solubilised due to both the bio- and the chemical leaching, although the bioleaching is more effective. The solubilised vulcanisation sulphur then forms precipitates. The precipitates are forming in the bulk solution, as well as on the surface of rubber particles. The origin of the precipitates was investigated using XRD and scanning microscopy with micro probe. The origin of the precipitates is different: while in the process of the vulcanisation sulphur solubilisation with 9K medium the jarosite (KFe3+3(SO4)2(OH)6) forms, the course of the biosolubilisation with Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans Karitas is accompanied by the formation of the jarosite and the halotrichite (FeAl2(SO4)4 · 22H2O) as well. The formation of the latter is the biomineralisation. The mechanisms of the bio- and chemical solubilisations are rather different as it was found and experimentally proved by several tests, and depends on the retention time of the solubilisation. Special efforts were done to elaborate the proper separation of the precipitates from rubber particles. Combination of intense dynamic stirring and recycling flotation process to remove the precipitates was applied for this purpose. The surface properties of synthetic jarosite were revealed using zeta-potential measurements at different pH and in presence of collectors. The parameters of the flotation were chosen based on the revealed surface properties of the precipitates. Finally, the sulphur recovery of the recycled rubber was achieved as low as <0.5%, sulphur content of it 0.17%, 12-times lower than that of the waste tyre sample after mechanical preparation."

High flotation of iron sulfide minerals at high pH values in copper ores is mainly due to the activation of these minerals by copper species dissolved from copper sulfide minerals during grinding. Several methods have been tested to reduce this copper activation during grinding and therefore to depress iron sulfide flotation. They include grinding the minerals at high pH values or with a less reactive medium such as high chrome, and addition of a thiol collector or copper complexant during grinding. The efficacy of these methods in the flotation of a copper ore was tested against more common methods of depression of iron sulfide flotation. The mechanism of iron sulfide depression in these methods was also investigated.

Most of the quantity of the water soluble xanthates, used in mineral flotation, is consumed in the process. However, the residue amounts are water contaminants downstream the mineral processing operations and can be toxic to aquatic biota at concentrations of 1 mg/L. In order to be able to discharge water from tailing ponds to natural water bodies the concentration of xanthates has to be decreased. The present paper studies the uptake of potassium ethyl xanthate by directly modified with copper and lead ions natural zeolitic rock, without passing through zeolite transformation into homoionic form. Modified zeolite exhibits high, comparable with powdered activated carbon of chemical purity grade, capacity to remove potassium ethyl xanthate from model wastewater, with pH in the range of 7?9 and pollutant concentration in the range of 10-150 mg/L. The pollutant immobilization is fast. Both Cu and Pb modified zeolite behave as selective with respect to xanthate in the model wastewater, and Cu-modified zeolite possesses higher selectivity. The extensive laboratory investigations were carried out in order to determinate behavior of sulphide and nonsulphide copper bearing particles during the flotation. The present ore sample were contained 0.55% Cu with 20.1% of nonsulphide copper in it and gangue material with higher contents of alumina about 19.07%. In this paper will be presented some results such as: effect of particle size, pH and applied collectors. The main goal was in application of collectors S-7518, as well as mixture of KEX and Z-96. Z-96 is a product from Chemical Industry Zupa Krusevac which was used as auxiliary collector in mixture with xanthates. The best results were done with this mixture in ratio KEX / Z-96 as 77/23 % in area of oxidized minerals flotation, but the collector S-7518 was achieved better results in sulphide mineral flotation. The S-7518 has better selectivity between copper minerals and pyrite comparing to mixture of KEX/Z-96 in mentioned optimal ratio. Flotation recovery and copper grade in concentrate were studied by flotation kinetics tests.

"The oxidized and mixed ores are processed by heap leaching. Primary ores with high gold content are floated. In recent years mining of primary ores with the low gold content (up to 4 ppm) has increased. Extraction of gold from these ores by floatation is technologically ineffective. Gravity concentration is ineffective for fine gold particles because of their floatability. The research objective was assessment of the viability of processing gold-bearing ore with combined gravitational and hydrometallurgical methods and testing of recovery of metals from a gold-copper oxidized ore chloride-hypochlorite leaching solution. The advantage of chloride-hypochlorite lixiviant is the low cost of reagents which is produced by the electrochemical synthesis of NaCl solution with the addition of HCl. The adsorption of chlorine compounds by a mineral matrix and its ability to oxidize the refractory ore components and allows for the application of chloride-hypochlorite systems for gold recovery for both oxidized and primary ores. The complexity and problem in using a gold–chloride system is the strong adsorption of gold–chloride complexes onto mineral surfaces, such as goethite, quartz, and alumina. In preliminary testing, gold recovery from gravity circuit gold bearing concentrates processed by agitation leaching in chloride-hypochlorite solution, gold recovery has reached up 82% after 4 hours of leaching. Chloride-hypochlorite leaching of copper-gold oxidized ore with preliminary processing by sulfuric acid provided for 94 % gold recovery to solution. Understanding of ecological hazard of cyanides is the motive power of researches in the field of search non-cyanic chemistries to provide for technologically and economically effective solvents of gold. Soluble compounds of chlorine with a suitable oxidizer are one of the alternatives to cyanides. Basic researches of gold extraction by chloride-hypochlorite solution have shown high rates of gold recovery.INTRODUCTION Because of the continued and growing environmental concern for the use of cyanide for gold processing, interest for the use of non-cyanide lixiviants, especially with halides has renewed recently (Tran et al., 2001; Ferron et al., 2003; Bhaghalha, 2007). Leaching solutions based on halides (chloride, bromide and iodide) are viable alternative to cyanide (Kwang et al., 2008). The major disadvantage of the chlorine–chloride system is the high reactivity of chlorine in reaction with sulfide and gangue carbonate minerals. It is believed that only high grade materials may be treated by chlorine–chloride systems economically (Baghalha, 2007). Another important problem of the application of gold–chloride complex is that it tends to be rather unstable and may re-precipitate upon contact with a reductant, such as sulfidic minerals of ore. It is well known that Au(III)–chloride hydrolysis species are strongly adsorbed by goethite, quartz, and alumina (Machfsky et al., 1991). To minimize adsorption of gold–chloro complexes, it works best to minimize the adsorption time."

Tourmaline has the characteristics of piezoelectricity, thermoelectricity, spontaneous polarization and far-off infrared radiations. Ultra-fine powders of tourmaline have extensive applications in the fields of electron, chemical and environment protection, as well as health protection. The preparation technology of ultra-fine tourmaline powder is discussed. The key equipment of a pilot plant for producing ultra-fine tourmaline powder with jet mill and stirred ball mill is described. Using this pilot plant facility it is possible to produce tourmaline powder with particle size smaller than 100 nm, and a continuous production process can be realized. The final powder product has many superior performance such as high whiteness and large specific surface area, and it?s a negative ions emission can reach the value of 7190 ions per cubic centimeter.

"A new PVM vertical ring high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separator authorized by China Invention Patent ZL201110294866.4, which featured with vertical magnetic field structure was developed to dramatically save energy consumption and running costs compared with electromagnetic separators. The specific magnetic circuit design ensures PVM separator generating high magnetic field intensity as well as solving equipment large-scaling. The newly developed industrial PVM separator has been proved suitable for recovery of weak magnetic minerals or purification of non-metallic minerals benefiting from its high background and induction magnetic field intensity up to 0.8/1.5T, stable service performance and low running costs. The first ?1.5mm PVM separator has been applied in removing iron from quartz sand in Fengyang, Anhui, and ?2mm PVM separator will be installed to separate hematite. Industrial applications and tests proved that PVM separators could gain similar separation effects and especially save more than 80% of power consumption compared with the conventional electromagnetic high-gradient high-intensity magnetic separator, which will contribute a lot for energy conservation and environmental protection. The development of high gradient magnetic separator technology has played an important role in utilizing weak magnetic minerals, which has been widely used in many mining enterprises. The main forms of high-gradient magnetic separators include both of electromagnetic high-gradient and permanent magnetic high-gradient. The vertical ring high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separator features with high magnetic field gradient, large processing capacity and never clogging, which has been widely used in recovering fine weak magnetic mineral and purification of non-metallic minerals[1-3]. However, electromagnetic coils excitation needs more energy consumption, and relatively high running costs and maintenance costs as a result of the complicated cooling system. So permanent magnetization of the electromagnetic magnetic separation equipment is a very important research direction at present. With the continuous improvement of resource utilization standard and efficiency requirements, high energy consumption of the electromagnetic vertical ring magnetic separator have been highlighted, which has affected the economic benefits of mining enterprises to a certain extent. In the aspect of high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separation equipment, considerable researches have been carried out at home and abroad and many small-sized prototypes were developed yet never strode into large-scale industry applications[4-6]."

As a result of the main processes of the limestone treatment ? sawing, buffing and polishing, a technological waste is usually obtained. These final tailings consist of a water suspension with highly variable solid phase content and granulometric composition. Since the waste is conducted to a tailing pool or another place, this leads to environment pollution. In this work the slurry waste generated during the limestone processing in a Bulgarian limestone manufacturing company was characterized. The chemical composition, particle size distribution, solid phase content, whiteness, yellowness, abrasion, specific surface and density were determined. The possibility of obtaining building/construction materials from limestone processing waste was studied in a laboratory scale. The technological tests included thickening, filtration and drying of waste products. Continuous operation laboratory thickener was used. Coagulant Accepta® 8302 (aluminum sulphate solution) and anionic flocculant Magnafloc® 155 were found to be the most effective in the sedimentation of the products. Filtration tests were performed using a laboratory pressure filter. Drying tests were carried out in laboratory facilities using the direct heating method. On the basis of the laboratory results a technology for limestone treatment waste was developed. A production line for building materials from limestone slurry was set up. As a result the manufacturing company has a possibility to use circulating water.

"Test work was carried out using copper gold-bearing flotation concentrate with 6.85%Cu, 14.30%Fe, 20.70%S and 2.34%As. Gold and silver grade in the concentrate is 54.6 g/t and 92 g/t, respectively. Gold and copper are valuable components in the concentrate. Gold is partially associated with pyrite and fahlores. Copper in the concentrate can be found as tennantite (Cu12As4S13). The 71% of gold from the flotation concentrate is recoverable by cyanidation with simultaneous cyanide consumption in the amount of 96 kg/t. The major reason of refractoriness is that gold is fine encapsulated into sulfides and the presence of cyanicide-copper. The concentrate ground as much as 95% minus 10 µm was treated using low-temperature POX at the temperature of 100±5°C, L:S ratio of 5:1 and the process time of 1-5 hours. Residual sulfide sulfur in the cake is 2.28% which is 89% sulfide oxidation. The highest copper recovery to POX solution is 91%. It was found that gold recovery to cyanide solution is 85-94% during alkaline pre-treatment of POX cakes followed by cyanidation. In this case, cyanide and lime consumption is 75-90 kg/t and 120 kg/t, respectively. In order to recover precious metals from POX cakes leaching using sodium sulfite was carried out. Test work was conducted at varied reagent concentration, L:S ratio and leaching time. Gold and silver recovery achieved was 85-95% and 59-63%, respectively."

"Clays are present in a large number of mineral deposits and are commonly found as gangue. Its complex chemical structure, characterised by anisotropic surfaces, makes its presence a permanent challenge for flotation operations, increasing the reagent consumption, decreasing the quality of the concentrate, and changing the rheological properties of the system. In this context, the main objective of this research is to improve the floatability of chalcopyrite minerals in the presence of clays by using guar gum, a low molecular weight organic polymer, which acts as a surface coating agent for clays. Clay Minerals Society provided the kaolinite sample and the chalcopyrite sample was purified from mineralized rock specimens obtained from Ward’s Natural Science Establishment. Micro flotation tests were carried out in a 150 cm3 Partridge-Smith cell, using compressed air as the gas phase at a flow rate of 80 cm3/min. Potassium amyl xanthate (PAX) and methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC) were used as a collector and a frother, respectively. The results showed that the use of guar gum improves the recovery of chalcopyrite in the presence of kaolinite because it induces the formation of clay aggregates that settle by gravitational effects, preventing the 'coating effect' and decreasing excessive collector consumption. pH played a key role in the guar gum performance, which was most effective at highly alkaline conditions (pH 11), where the copper recovery improved from 73% to 90%. The work has significant implications for the mineral flotation in the presence of clay minerals.INTRODUCTION The mining industry is continuously confronted with challenges that alert the sustainability of the sector. There is little availability of water, the grade of the deposits are getting smaller, and the gangue is becoming more complex. Usually, clays are part of the gangue in numerous systems, including copper ore, porphyry, nickel, platinum, etc. (Senior & Thomas, 2005). The structure is mainly composed of layers of tetrahedral silica (T) and octahedral alumina (O) that join in certain proportions: 1: 1 (T-O) and 2: 1 (T-O-T) (Theng, 2012). Also, they expose two crystallographically different surfaces: the faces, which tend to be negatively charged, and the edges, which carry a charge that changes from positive to negative depending on the pH (Van Olphen, 1977). One of the most common clays in copper deposits is kaolinite, whose structure is composed of an octahedral sheet of gibbsite bound to a tetrahedral silica sheet in the ratio 1:1"

"Copper(II) can be recovered or removed from acidic copper sulfate solutions as cuprite or metallic copper powder by reduction with carbohydrates (van der Weijden et al., 2001, 2002). In order to make this process suitable for a commercial scale pipe reactor, process conditions and reactor configuration need to guarantee proper throughput of the dilute suspension. This is where crystal engineering also comes into view. Copper powder characteristics, such as size and shape of particles, influence the tendency to adhere to reactor walls and to agglomerate, which in turn influence the throughput. Furthermore, separation, drying, packaging and product quality, are dependent on the powder characteristics.In this paper the effect of both chemical and physical parameters on the shape and size of particles were systematically studied in a number of autoclave experiments. These parameters include mixing, Cu(II) concentration, pH, temperature, seeding, use of additives and reactor materials. Additionally, Monte Carlo simulations of copper growth inside a Kenics static mixer were made. Results show that the use of additives, and the use of static mixers influence particle characteristics the most."

Goethite ore are the third most abundant source of iron. The overwhelming part of these ore is represented by low-grade varieties which cannot be used in iron and steel industry without preliminary beneficiation. Biomass is a renewable solid fuel, which is feasible for the substitution of coke and coal in the manufacturing due to its lower contents of harmful elements and abundant raw material sources. Utilization of biomass in iron ore sintering process as heating agent and reducing agent contributes to energy conservation and emission reduction. The biomass was mixed together with goethite ore for roasting process to investigate the effects of reduction roasting. The results show that the goethite ore is dramatically reduced and magnetized into maghemite by biomass with the biomass dosage less than 20% and the roasting temperature below 650 oC. When the goethite ore roasted with biomass, the magnetization values could be enhanced more than two orders of magnitude, meets the standard of magnetic separation, which could significantly reduce the iron beneficiation cost. o meet the ever increasing demand of iron oxide feed stock for rapidly growing domestic steel industries and to effectively manage the depleting reserve of high grade lumpy iron ore, Pelletization of iron ore fines/slimes are expected to play a dominant role in the near future. Use of pellets will also enable the blast furnace operator to achieve higher levels of productivity with lowering of operating cost. The effective utilization of Iron Ore Slimes is important not only from the point of view of optimum utilization of Iron values in the mined ore but also for preventing environmental pollution. A significant amount of slime is being accumulated at the tailing dam of one of the iron ore mines and with the present scale of operation the tailing dam will be filled in another 10 years. Hence to increase the life of tailing dam and for better utilization of the iron values a study has been carried out for the suitability of pellet manufacturing with slimes and fines at our laboratory. The pelletization studies are aimed for optimization of various parameters for production of Blast furnace/ DR grade pellets from beneficiated slimes and Fines. This paper attempts to describe the production of blast furnace grade pellets from beneficiated slime and fines and its characterizations.

"Enargite is a significant penalty mineral in the copper industry and its separation from many copper sulfides by flotation is difficult. The separation may be crudely achieved using selective oxidation techniques or through the use of pulp potential control. This paper summarizes our latest contributions to a better understanding of enargite surface electrochemistry and hydrophobicity. Oxidation, roughness, hydrophobicity and species formation on the surface of natural enargite were examined by a novel experimental approach that combines electrochemical techniques, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and droplet evaporation tensiometry. It allows for synchronized electrochemical control and examination of the oxidative surface morphology, speciation and hydrophobicity of enargite at pH 4 and pH 10. At low pH, surface layer formations consisting of metal deficient sulfide and elemental sulfur were identified associated with a limited increase in roughness and heterogeneous distribution of surface species produced by initial rapid dissolution of Cu, followed by diffusion limited surface layer deposition. At high pH, a similar diffusive mechanism associated with oxidation products consisting of copper sulfate and hydroxide and a significant increase in surface roughness were established. Receding contact angle measurements showed no significant difference in the contact angle on a surface oxidized at pH 10 and the freshly polished surface. Contact angle increased from 46° on the polished surface to 59° after oxidation at pH 4. Competing effects of hydrophilic copper oxides and hydroxides, and hydrophobic species of elemental sulfur on the mineral surfaces under oxidizing conditions at pH 4, and the change in surface roughness at pH 10, contribute to the changes in enargite hydrophobicity under electrochemically-controlled oxidation conditions. Most likely, both surface species and surface roughness produced by oxidation are critical to the changes in the wettability of enargite and other sulfide minerals."

Cationic flotation using alkylamines and their derivatives as collectors, and characterized by high selectivity of mineral particle separation, is finding ever growing industrial application. In recent years the industrial application has been initiated of new cationic collectors - alkylmorpholines. Efficiency of cationic surfactants operation as collectors is dependent upon their colloid and sorption properties and the availability of silicate .carbonate rock-forming mineral impurities in the ore, which sorb the cationic collector. Investigations have been carried out on the influence of frothers and organic depressors with various compositions upon physical-chemical and flotation properties of alkylamines and alkylmorpholines. On the basis of these investigations requirements for organic depressor were developed and new flotation reagents were proposed (V-1 frother and KS-MF depressor). The use of new reagents enables one to decrease considerably the consumption of expensive cationic collectors and to enhance the floatability of coarse mineral particles. Data of new reagents industrial application is presented. The reagents developed can be used for flotation processing of other ores.

This paper highlights the importance of pulp aeration in the selective separation of chalcopyrite from chalcopyrite/pyrite mixtures of varying pyrite content (20-80 wt.%). Laboratory batch flotation studies and oxygen demand tests were performed to predict the optimum amount of air required for the selective separation of chalcopyrite from pyrite. The pulp oxygen demand was shown to increase with increasing pyrite content but decrease with time as more air is introduced into the system. Complementary batch flotation tests showed significant improvement in chalcopyrite flotation under moderate pre-aeration of the pulp. However, a continuous decrease of chalcopyrite flotation was observed under highly aerated conditions. The amount of air required to achieve maximum chalcopyrite flotation recovery correlated positively with the mass fraction of pyrite in the pulps. The greater the wt.% of pyrite in the chalcopyrite/pyrite pulp, the longer the aeration time required. The optimum aeration time was established as the time before which the oxygen consumption rate constant reaches a bottom plateau. Surface analysis (XPS) indicated that the continuous decrease in pyrite recovery observed with increasing aeration time was due to the formation of more iron oxy/hydroxide on its surfaces, the same species accounting for the decrease in Cp recovery after prolonged aeration.
