"A case study for the application of a novel geostatistical technique for resource estimation of a narrow steeply dipping, gold-silver mineralized quartz vein deposit is presented. The technique is novel in two respects. First, mineral grades are kriged directly rather via the accumulation method more often applied to vein deposits and, second, a modified 2D ordinary kriging algorithm is used that allows the calculation of a single grade and variance for irregular shaped blocks of varying sizes. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the suitability of this novel geostatistical technique for resource estimation of the Poura mine deposit and, if appropriate, to lay a firm foundation for future geostatistical work at the mine.The reserve estimation concentrated on the remnant ore blocks and pillars in both underground and surface workings. The data, which was collected in 2D coordinates with grade and vein thickness values, was first analyzed statistically and used to compute experimental semi-variograms. Appropriate semivariogram models were fitted and various aspects of the estimation technique were evaluated using cross-validation error analysis, with acceptable results. A block kriging computer program called Krige2D was developed to implement the modified 2D kriging algorithm and calculations. Production data were not available to evaluate the computed block resources, but they were compared with a previous resource data determined using an arithmetic approach. The geostatistical technique estimated slightly higher grades but lower overall tonnages as compared to the earlier arithmetic estimates."

The necessary capability of the gravity transportation pipeline system for cemented coal gangue backfilling at the Suncun Coal Mine, China, is about 74.4 m3?h-1 according to mining production and working times in the mine. It is estimated that the working velocity and maximum pipe length-backfill depth ratio of the backfill system are 3.82m?s-1 and 5.4, respectively and that the probable backfill capability of the system is 110.18m3?h-1. Results of hydraulic calculations for the backfill transportation system show that the designed backfill system is reliable in flowability and sufficient for backfill capability needs.

"Oilfield cementing has been utilized in the industry since the turn of the century. Originally, wells were shallow and criteria for well integrity were somewhat limited. Since that time, wells have stretched the envelope in depth, temperature, and pressure. Environmental regulations have also become more stringent, thus, the importance of hydraulic isolation between permeable zones, and between these zones and surface has become more and more important.Initially, oilfield cements were comprised predominantly of construction cement and very limited additives. As time progressed, additives were incorporated to control pumping time or placement time and little effort was placed on optimizing actual components within the cement chemistry. This paper presents issues and concerns created by adding just one new component to the fundamental chemistry of an oilfield cement."

"Studies have shown that there is a correlation between commissioning and start-up time, i.e. time to reach full plant design capacity, and the degree of innovation and technical/engineering uncertainty in the project design. The paper describes the types of start-up curves for plants according to the level of technology or uncertainty in the process design. The need to properly describe and understand the commissioning and start-up time is examined using these curves and the importance on project success is highlighted. A number of case histories of recent mining and metallurgical projects are also reviewed. Finally, the paper reviews how to better assess the level of start-up uncertainty associated with a project and makes suggestions for decreasing the commissioning time due to technological risk.INTRODUCTIOThe start-up of a new mining and metallurgical facility, a much anticipated event, is a critical step in the life of such a project. Achieving a successful start-up and reaching the design capacity on-time requires careful planning, a thorough understanding of the key technological and engineering components involved and a well-trained and adequatelystaffed start-up crew. In this paper, some of the aspects related to start-up of a mining/metallurgical project will be explored, and in particular, the impact of the technology component will be examined. In order to illustrate this, a number of case histories based on recent mining and metallurgical projects will be discussed. Ways of assessing and understanding the uncertainty associated with technological issues related to start-up of a mining and metallurgical plant will also be examined.The history on mining and metallurgy is full of success stories of great mines and mills that are now considered “company makers” (well known examples of such successes include the Horne mine for Noranda which had a 1 year start-up in 1926-27, the Dome mine for Placer Dome, the Grasberg deposit for FMI in Indonesia). Less well documented are specific studies relating to plant start-ups and what constitutes a success or a failure, however there are a few notable references in the literature and these will be reviewed."

"Falcon Concentrators Inc. has developed a high capacity centrifuge for the recovery of fine, free gold as well as other metals and minerals which were previously thought to be unrecoverable by gravity means. Development started in the early 1980's and the first commercial operation was commissioned in 1986. Gold applications include scavenging conventional gravity and cyanidation circuit tailings, cleaning gravity concentrates, cleaning flotation concentrates to melting grade, scavenging flotation tailings, and placer mining. Recent development work by Falcon has expanded the applications scope of the centrifugal concentrator to include many minerals amenable to gravity concentration including iron, tin, industrial minerals, and hazardous wastes. This paper discusses this technology including its history, present applications, and future potential. OVERVIEW OF CENTRIFIJGAL CONCENTRATIONUsing centrifugal force to enhance the separation of materials by differential specific gravity has been researched for over a century. Many attempts have been made to concentrate minerals in high gravity fields. Patents were granted on this subject as early as 1891 (see Figure 1). Patenting activity continued into the 1920's and has been relatively quiet since. It is significant that no centrifugal system of gravity concentration has been broadly accepted by the mineral processing community until recently. Much of the world's reserve of mineral deposits which are amenable to conventional gravity concentration technology (coarse-grained) have been mined and therefore there is an increasing demand for technology which can economically recover the fine-grained gravity recoverable minerals in the remaining deposits. In addition, centrifugal concentration can play an increasing role in solving environmental problems by offering an inexpensive method of concentrating hazardous materials such as uranium, plutonium, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals. The overall cost of disposing of these substances safely can be drastically reduced if they are recovered into a concentrated form prior to disposal."

"INTRODUCTIONGold tailings retreatment plants have been operated for many years throughout the world. Several large tailings retreatment facilities have been operated profitably in South Africa since 1976 and there are tailings retreatment operations in Canada currently in production with more in the feasibility stages.The Timmins Gold Tailings Project of ERG Resources Inc. was designed to treat 8,000,000 tonnes per annum of gold tailings for an eight month operating season, and commissioning of the operation began in July 1988. The payback period for this project is about 3 years which corresponds to an IRR of 30%.This report summarizes the metallurgical characteristics of the reclaim tailings, describes the process flowsheet which was developed to enable ERG to economically recover gold from the Timmins area tailings, and reviews commissioning activities."

"Construction of the Cigar Lake uranium mine in northern Saskatchewan is well under way. Production is anticipated to begin in the first half of 2007. When in full production, the mine is projected to produce a net 18,000,000 pounds of U3O8 per annum from a high grade ore averaging approximately 20% U3O8.Water management was a major issue that required substantial effort in the Cigar Lake design. Not only is effluent quality controlled, a tight water balance to minimize effluent volume is also designed into processes in order to minimize environmental impact. This paper focuses on the water treatment process and water handling equipment, as well as the operating philosophies that will reduce fresh water consumption to a minimum. An overview of the mining and ore handling systems, as well as aspects of controlling water production from the ore formation and the mine development areas will also be discussed.INTRODUCTIONThe Cigar Lake ore body has proven and probable reserves that total 232 million pounds U3O8. Cigar Lake is the world’s largest undeveloped high-grade deposit. It is the second largest highgrade deposit surpassed only by the McArthur River deposit another Cameco - operated mine in the Saskatchewan Athabasca Basin. Cigar Lake is owned 50% by Cameco Corporation, 37% by AREVA (COGEMA Resources Inc.), 8% by Idemitsu Uranium Exploration Canada Ltd. and 5% by TEPCO Resources Inc. When production starts in 2007, ground ore slurry from Cigar Lake will be shipped to the McClean Lake mill (owned by AREVA) some 80 km away. All of the Cigar Lake uranium will be leached from the ore at McClean Lake. During initial production ramp up, all uranium will be processed at McClean Lake to yellow cake (uranium oxide). After the average production has exceeded a 10 million pound per year rate, Cigar Lake uranium will begin to flow from the McClean Lake Mill to the Rabbit Lake Mill. At this point, subject to regulatory approval, 57% of the Cigar Lake uranium, in a uranium rich solution, will be transported to Rabbit Lake mill (owned by Cameco) for purification to yellow cake. A complete summary of the flow of uranium from the Cigar Lake ore body through to product at both McClean Lake and Rabbit Lake can be found in a recent paper titled “The Cigar Lake Project – Mining, Ore Handling and Milling” in the March 2004 issue of the CIM Bulletin. "INTRODUCTIONThe Hemlo area is located in Northern Ontario, some 350 km east of Thunder Bay along highway 17. Hemlo is Canada's largest, recent discovery of gold ore. Three companies, Lac, Noranda, and Teck are currently developing mines and processing facilities in the area. A combined milling capacity of approximately 10,000 tonnes per day will ultimately be available in the area. The gold yield will be between 750,000 to 1,000,000 ozs. per year. This will slightly more than double Ontario's gold production but only represents 2.5% of the total world gold production.Lac Minerals Ltd. is substantially committed to the gold mining business. Lac currently operates four (4) gold mines and mills and produces 300,000 ozs. per year. Lac's Hemlo development will put the company in the position of number one gold producer in Canada.The Lac Hemlo ore body has an estimated reserve of 37 million tonnes at 6.2 g/t. The mining will take place at an initial rate of 3,000 t/d commencing in the first quarter of 1986. The mine and plant will be expanded to 6,000 t/d in 1988. At this capacity, Lac will be the largest producer in the Hemlo area.1. GEOLOGYThe orebody is divided into two (2) zones for mining purposes. The 'A' Zone is to the east and dips to the Northeast from surface to 300 m below surface. This zone has a strike length of 250 m to 300 m at an average width of 20 m. The upperpart of the zone will be mined by open pit and the remainder from underground. The 'B' Zone, to the north west of the 'A' Zone, although lined up is not necessarily an extension of 'A' Zone. 'B' Zone has a known strike length of 600 m and is open to depth and along the strike. It is over 70 m wide in the core. This zone holds most of the property's known reserves. 'C' Zone with narrow gold zones is under exploration in the south west portion of the property."

"Over the past twenty years there has been an increased emphasis on fine grinding in the minerals industry. This spurred the development of a range of new fine grinding equipment in the 1990s. At that time, the Knelson-Deswik mill was developed in South Africa for the pigments industry.Knelson Milling Solutions currently offers a wide range of laboratory, pilot and production scale mills. These mills bridge the gap between traditional low speed vertical mills and the high speed horizontal mills (tip speed < 3 and > 15 m/s respectively). They are designed to run at tip speeds between 10 and 12 m/s and are capable of operating with very dense grinding media. The result is a power intensity that is higher than the low speed mills and overlaps that of the high speed mills. This allows the mill to be customized for a wide range of grinding applications.A case study at Aquarius Platinum’s Kroondal Mine shows that the Knelson-Deswik technology can produce a consistent product size despite feed variations. It also shows that the throughput was proportional to the slurry density at Kroondal. The case study identified increasing the slurry density as a process change that can increase throughput and reduce the specific energy consumption.INTRODUCTIONThe increasing complexity and finer grain sizes of modern ore bodies have increased the importance of effective mineral liberation in obtaining acceptable grades and recoveries (Jankovic, Valery and La Rosa, 2003; Lichter and Davey, 2006; Napier-Munn, Morell, Morrison and Kojovic, 1996). This trend has increased the significance of fine grinding technology because the input energy increases exponentially as the required product size decreases from 100 to 10 microns (Gao and Weller, 1993a).The US Department of Energy recently provided the context for the potential energy savings in the US Mining Industry (BCS, 2007). They reported that grinding consumes approximately 494 TBtu/year. This was over double the consumption of the second highest equipment category, diesel materials handling systems (211 TBtu/yr). The proportion of grinding energy allocated to fine grinding can only be expected to increase as finer ore deposits are mined. It is therefore critical that fine grinding efficiency continue to improve through the selection of appropriate equipment and the development of best practices for existing applications."

"The operation of the Louvicourt Mine will have to rely on stringent grade control and on the optimization of the amount of blocked ore made available per given development effort. All of the above being necessary to obtain the highest throughput at the lowest mining cost.To assist in achieving these objectives, the need for production of a competent fill with short curing time was recognized early by the project partners. As well, operating costs associated with the selected method should be as low as possible while meeting the technical criteria.A feasibility study comparing filling methods showed potential benefits in all aspects of the paste fill use, except for its higher capital costs and increased operational complexity. This last consideration was tackled by the conservative design approach adopted in the flowsheet development of the paste fill plant.Since commissioning of the plant has just been completed at this time, the paper will focus on the feasibility study and its background, the design of the plant and testwork results at pilot plant and plant scale.RésuméLe succès de l 'opération de Louvicourt Mine dépendra d' un contrôle serré des teneurs du minerai et de la maximisation de la quantité de minerai développée par effort uni ta ire. Ce dernier point fut considéré de près par l'adoption d' une approche conservatrice lors de la conception de l'usine de rernblai.Puisque la mise en service de l'usine n'a été faite que les détails de l 'étude de faisabilité et ses fondements, 1 'usine et des résultats d' essais obtenus a l'échelle de l'usine seront discutés."

"“Classification System Efficiency (CSE)” is a powerful, emerging tool that can be used to increase grinding circuit efficiency. It is defined as the percentage of the ball mill energy being used to grind target, oversize particles. The discovery, validation and current use of CSE, including how it was manipulated, are described through seven plant case studies. These resulted in efficiency improvements ranging from 3 to 30 percent, along with major reductions in over-grinding. The achievable CSE for any given circuit is described. This paper demonstrates both how, and how much, every plant can benefit from increasing grinding circuit CSE.DEFINITIONS: BALL MILL CIRCUIT “CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM EFFICIENCY (CSE)”, “EFFECTIVE MILL GRINDING POWER”: “WASTED/OVER-GRINDING MILL POWER”The closed ball mill circuit is shown in Figure 1. The extreme importance of the circulating load ratio in determining circuit productivity was demonstrated by Davis (1925) and re-published by Guadin (1939), as shown in Figure 2. The circuit production rate increases with increased circulating load ratio, rapidly so at first and continuing to increase more gradually with higher and higher values of circulating load ratio.The underlying cause of this relationship was seen when comparing the ball mill feed and product size distributions from two different ball mill circuits, one with a low circulating load ratio, and one with a high circulating load ratio (Figure 3). While the F80’s and P80’s of these two circuits were close to the same, the mill feed and discharge size distributions were quite different. The ball mill in the circuit with the higher circulating load ratio contained a substantially greater fraction of material coarser than the target P80, as indicated by the respective mill feed and discharge size distributions. This fraction represents the fraction of the mill power being expended on “coarse” (in this case, plus P80 size) material, or the circuit “classification system efficiency.” The “effective mill grinding power” is the total mill power multiplied by the CSE. The compliment of CSE, the remaining fraction of “fines” in the mill, is the fraction of the mill power being wasted, and spent on over-grinding of material already finer than the circuit target product size. This is the “wasted/over-grinding mill power”"

"The operation of flotation circuits is often regarded as a combination of art and science. Expert systems offer a method by which the art may be captured and supervisory control of flotation circuits fully realized. Operating knowledge, the art, can be consistently employed to enhance regulatory control through the judicious application of an expert system. Using an expert system, a supervisory control routine was developed, and successfully implemented, in the copper flotation circuit at Brenda Mines Ltd.The expert system ran in conjunction with regulatory PI controllers on a personal computer. The expert system received assays via an on-stream analyzer and adjusted regulatory loop setpoints as required in real-time. From its commissioning in November 1989, to the end of the mine's operation in June, 1990, the ES was enthusiastically embraced by the operators and attained operating levels superior to those achievable manually.INTRODUCTIONExpert system (ES) software springs from research into artificial intelligence and is currently making significant inroads into business and industry. Proponents of ES's make many attractive claims; they are a means of capturing the knowledge of experts and they can be programmed by non-programmers. To date, most uses of this software in the process industry are in off-line applications, meaning that the applications are not tied directly to operating (on-line) environments. Moreover, in on-line environments, they are typically employed as advisors and only suggest changes. Human operators are required to close-the-loop to the process. Yet, ES's should be applicable to operating environments and, if the claims of the proponents are valid, should also be better than existing tools. As an intelligent controller an ES must use the knowledge of experienced operators, apply it directly to a process and do this without the intervention of human operators. On-line applications have been successfully employed in the closed loop control of SAG circuits (Herbst et al., 1989) and flotation circuits (Hales, 1989). Harris and Kosick (1988) detail an implementation for flotation control at the Polaris Mine."

La zone 1 de la mine Doyon (zone altérée), se situe à l?extrémité sud de la mine et est constituée d?une série de veines étroites à fort pendage et ayant des épontes de très faible résistance. Les épontes supérieure et inférieure ont des valeurs de RQD variant de 0 à 20 lors que les valeurs de RQD de la zone minéralisée se situent entre 20 et 40. Le minerai de la zone 1 s?étend sur environ 300 m de long et sur 900 m de profondeur avec des épaisseurs variant entre 2 et 15 m. Des méthodes de minage long-trous y sont utilisées avec des accès longitudinaux ou transverses selon l?épaisseur de la zone minéralisée. L?exploitation de la zone 1 a débuté en 1991 et plus de 1,7 millions de tonnes auront été extraites à la fin 2008. Plusieurs techniques y ont été testées que ce soit au niveau du développement ou du minage afin d?améliorer la sécurité des travailleurs, de réduire la dilution des chantiers et d?en augmenter la récupération. Différentes modifications ont été apportées aux dimensions et orientations des galeries, aux patrons de forage, aux techniques de sautages, au support de terrain, à la séquence de minage et aux méthodes de remblayage. "Brunswick Mining has investigated grinding media optimization for the purpose of improving the flotation feed and regrind product size distributions to enhance metal recoveries. This paper presents the findings of on-going testing of various sizes and shapes of grinding media. Plant observations combined with estimated breakage rates demonstrate the importance of appropriate selection of media sizes on the milling operation.IntroductionBrunswick Mining and Smelting is located near Bathurst, New Brunswick, and operates one of the world&apos;s largest lead and zinc mines. The ore mineralogy and processing flowsheet have been described elsewhere (Petruk and Schnarr, 1981; Shannon et 01., 1993). Despite the 25 years&apos; milling experience, there has been considerable disagreement as to the required grind size (Grant et 01., 1991). Since 1964, fineness of the flotation feed ranged from 60% to 80% passing 400 mesh (37 um) and averaged slightly above 71% in 1992. Results from mineralogical analysis (Petruk and Schnarr, 1981), laboratory and pilot plant experiments, as well as plant sampling (Grant et al., 1991; Hendriks and Ounpuu, 1985; Shannon et al., 1993) indicate that improved metal recoveries can be achieved by an increase in the fineness of grind, and more specifically by maximizing the amount of material in the 15 urn to 25 um range.This paper shows the results obtained so far from the evaluation of the effect of grinding media size and shape on grinding mill efficiency. The problem of finding optimum grinding media size, shape and composition has been recogrtized since the early 19405. The main criterion for the selection of media size is the size of the material to be ground (Bond, 1958). Although several relationships have been proposed to assist in the selection of grinding media size, none of them are entirely satisfactory (Wills, 1988). Other approaches using the breakage rates and process simulators were developed to help in the selection of grinding media size (Austin et al., 1976; Lo and Herbst, 1986; Concha et 01., 1992; Samskog et al., 1990; Martinovic et al., 1990). Although considerable effort was put into the analysis of grinding media size, very little information is available on the effect of grinding media shape (Norman and Decker, 1985, p. 3C-4). Norris (1952), Kelsall et al. (1973) and Herbst and Lo (1989) have shown that balls are more efficient than other shapes of grinding media including truncated cones and cubes."

"This is an account of the expansion of Texasgulf's Timmins concentrator by the building of a fourth circuit.The original capacity of the mine and concentrator was 3.6 million tons per year of ore. In 1974, Texasgulf decided to increase that capacity by about one third to 4.8 million tons per year. It was planned that the increased capacity would be available by mid-1978.The expansion involved work at the rninesite, increased railroad capacity, and a new circuit in the concentrator, and it is the concentrator expansion which is described here.In 1974, the minesite drew its ore from the open pit. The pit was being phased out and was to be replaced by No. 1 mine. To allow for the expansion, a second mine was required. The railroad was capable of handling 18 car trains. Its capacity had to be increased to 27 cars per train and this, in turn, required two new locomotives. Each of these alone cost half a million dollars.The concentrator building in 1974 contained the concentrating equipment and miscellaneous services (such as machine shop, warehouse, analytical lab). The grinding and flotation sections were divided into three circuits ('A', 'B', & 'C'). 'A' and 'B' circuits treated copper-zinc ore and 'C' circuit treated the much more difficult copperzinc- lead ore. This 'C' circuit had been modified over the years to implement improvements in the metallurgy."

"Aqueous slurries of fine particle size calcium carbonate are used in a diverse range of end-use products. In many cases, the end use performance is governed by the fineness of the particle size distribution. In turn, the maximum fineness of the particle size distribution is primarily determined by the efficiency of the dispersants used during the production process. Here we report the sodium polyacrylate mediated dispersion of calcite and kaolin. Firstly, we report a colloid chemical description of the dispersant behaviour and attribute the stabilisation to both steric and electrostatic mechanisms. Secondly, we describe how the understanding developed in the first part of the study can be utilised to produce more effective dispersant systems which allow the preparation of, added value, higher solids and finer particle size calcium carbonate slurry products.INTRODUCTIONConcentrated aqueous dispersions of fine, particulate kaolin and calcium carbonate are used extensively in the coating of paper. Currently more than 10 million tonnes of such dispersions are used annually in North America and Europe alone, and worldwide consumption is growing at around 3% per year.Generally, paper is coated to enhance its visual appearance. Firstly, coatings improve the optical properties of the blank sheet, i.e. its brightness (or whiteness), opacity and gloss. Secondly, they improve the physical properties of the sheet that will influence the quality of the final printed image, such as surface smoothness, porosity, and ink absorption. In order to achieve these aims economically, paper coatings must be applied at high speeds and with minimal drying costs.Kaolin and calcium carbonate pigments are the major components of most paper coating formulations. Particle size distributions are chosen to maximise the optical benefits that they confer, and to allow the production of formulations that can be easily pumped, handled and coated. "The development of the Centrifugal Mill jointly by Chamber of Mines (Johannesburg) and LURGI GMBH (Frankfurt) had been described by L. Kitschen e.al. during the 14th IMPC at Toronto in October 1982. Further investigations, using a 55 kW semi-industrial mill, installed at LURGI's Research Laboratories, were concentrated on efficiency and wear in grinding.The test results showed, that efficiency increases when increasing the ball load between 60 and 80 % by volume. Furthermore, the efficiency is increased by speeding up the mill, thus increasing the centrifugal force to up to 14 times the force of gravity. Applying these findings to grinding of a Canadian iron ore spiral concentrate, a saving in grinding power of 30 % was experienced, when comparing with ordinary wet ball milling.Investigations of several shapes of the grinding chamber cross section and linings and several types of materials showed, that no increase of liner or ball wear will occur compared to conventional ball mills when choosing suitable lining patterns. 1. DEVELOPMENT OF THE CENTRIPUGAL MILLThe centrifugal mill was developed with the aim of finding a grinding unit that can operate at a higher power concentration than the conventional tumbling mills.LURGI felt the necessity for such a mill in connection with a hydrometallurgical process developed at the beginning of the seventies, which incorporated an activating grinding step as one of the essential process features. At that time, the Chamber of Mines in Johannesburg was investigating possibilities of underground wet grinding and preconcentration of gold ores aiming at a decrease of mining costs by reducing the quantities, especially for mines operating at depths up to 3600 m, by changing over from rope hoisting to hydraulic transportation systems. After the Chamber of Mines had initiated the development work on its own, in 1974 a cooperation between the two organisations was started."

"SUMMARY A practical application of nitric acid oxidation of sulphides, based on the principles of the Arseno process, has been developed for the Cinola ore. Development of the process has been based on testwork conducted by Bacon Donaldson of Vancouver and Hazen Research of Denver, and on conceptual engineering performed by Minproc Engineers of Denver.A comprehensive Stage II report for the project has been submitted to the B.C. permitting agencies, containing provisions for a zero discharge tailings impoundment system and prevention of acid mine drainage. Approval in principle is expected in early 1989.A feasibility study recently completed by Minproc Engineers and Davy McKee Corporation demonstrates that this project can be brought to production for a capital expenditure of C$120 million for a mill throughput of 6,000 tonnes/day and operated at a total direct operating cost of less than $20/tonne.INTRODUCTION The Cinola orebody was discovered in 1970. It is situated approximately in the centre of Graham Island, the largest of the Queen Charlotte Islands. It represents the mid to upper levels of a hydrothermal precious metals system, characterized by intense brecciation and silicification. Gold is associated with finely disseminated sulphides in a breccia matrix and in free form in numerous quartz veins.Ownership of the property has changed hands a number of times, and previous attempts to bring the property to production have failed. Two critical factors have frequently been blamed for difficulty in creating a successful project: namely, process and environment factors, hence the title of this paper.City Resources (Canada) Limited (""City"") acquired the property in 1986, and commenced an aggressive campaign to verify ore reserves, to carry out metallurgical research and to address environmental issues.PROJECT OVERVIEW When the Cinola orebody was discovered, the significance of hydrothermal mineraliza¬tion associated with crustal plate boundaries was not recognized, and for several years, the orebody was considered an uneconomic curiosity. If the type and location of orebody sought by many companies engaged in gold exploration were to be specified, it would probably be a description of the Cinola orebody - it is a large (greater than 1.5 million ounce), low grade (2.45 gm/tonne), refractory ore reserve associated with the Pacific rim crustal plate boundary. The industry appears to have recognized in the past few years that its future lies in the exploitation of such orebodies, and is prepared to come to grips with the technical problems associated with such ores. In this sense, the Cinola orebody might be considered to have come of age."
