The extensive laboratory investigations were carried out in order to determinate behavior of sulphide and nonsulphide copper bearing particles during the flotation. The present ore sample were contained 0.55% Cu with 20.1% of nonsulphide copper in it and gangue material with higher contents of alumina about 19.07%. In this paper will be presented some results such as: effect of particle size, pH and applied collectors. The main goal was in application of collectors S-7518, as well as mixture of KEX and Z-96. Z-96 is a product from Chemical Industry Zupa Krusevac which was used as auxiliary collector in mixture with xanthates. The best results were done with this mixture in ratio KEX / Z-96 as 77/23 % in area of oxidized minerals flotation, but the collector S-7518 was achieved better results in sulphide mineral flotation. The S-7518 has better selectivity between copper minerals and pyrite comparing to mixture of KEX/Z-96 in mentioned optimal ratio. Flotation recovery and copper grade in concentrate were studied by flotation kinetics tests.

In the present work, we report a novel microstructure of synthesized scalenohedral PCC (precipitated calcium carbonate) without any additives by a simple and ecofriendly carbonation process carried out in a liquid-gas system on the crystal growth of the scalenohedral calcite phase. Especially, the process parameters of Ca(OH)2 concentration and CO2 flow rates were investigated to enhance the sensitivity of the process. The highest average length of the scalenohedral calcite was obtained at pH 6.0, temperature 450C, Ca(OH)2 concentration 0.2M, CO2 flow rate 80mL/min, and total volume 1L. The utilization of flue gas-derived CO2 from coal fired power plants could be a form of carbon capture and storage using carbonation reaction with scalenohedral PCC. Finally, the synthesized scalenohedral PCC was used as a filer for ONP recycling. We demonstrated all these experiemnts at semi pilot plant scale.

"Due to an increasing demand for nickel and cobalt and the depletion of nickel sulphide deposits worldwide, the production of ferronickel from lateritic nickel ores becomes more significant. About 60 percent of nickel reserves are present in laterite deposits. Common production methods like acid leaching or smelting operations implicate high material and energy consumption. Physical processing methods are also not efficient, because of the fine microstructural intergrowth of the minerals carrying valuable elements such as nickel and cobalt. Due to the high energy consumption of metallurgical treatment of lateritic nickel ore (nickel grade: 0.8 - 3.0%, Co: 0.05 - 0.15%), the separation of waste material (about 75 - 85%) before the metallurgical treatment is desirable. Therefore, an alternative process has been developed, combining a pyro-metallurgical pre-treatment with selected mechanical processing methods. The developed process consisted of a selective pre-reduction and non-selective segregation of the contained metal phases in the first stage. By this, the properties of the metal carrying minerals were changed and could become subject to concentration by means of fine beneficiation processes afterwards. The parameters of the pre-reduction and segregation were varied and the pre-treated samples were examined concerning their efficiency of metalization grade and metal grain size. This paper describes the investigation of pre-treatment methods of a lateritic nickel ore. The pre-treatment and possible subsequent separation methods were examined with regard to the recovery of the valuable elements. Metalization grade was around 80% for both Ni and Co with metal phase grain sizes below 20 µm. Scanning electron microscopy revealed distribution of new metal phases not only on the reducing agent, but also on the “slag” material.INTRODUCTION Nickel laterites are characterized as strongly weathered regoliths with several zones containing reserves of nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). These laterites are formed on serpentinites and ultramafic rocks under climatic and/or tectonic conditions that have changed over time (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The formation of Ni laterites is influenced by numerous geological and environmental factors. In general, there are three ore types named according to the dominant Ni hosting minerals: oxides, hydrous magnesia (Mg) silicates and clay silicates (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The most Ni laterite deposits contain two of these ore types, usually an oxide zone and an either clay or Mg silicate zone. Distribution of these principal deposit types, their average Ni-bearing phases and mean Ni grade are shown in Table 1. A schematic profile of the different deposits based on the development on serpentized ultramafic rocks is given in Figure 1 (Butt & Cluzel, 2013)."

Low molecular weight synthetic polymers substituted with hydroxyl, carboxyl or sulfonate functional groups were used to improve the flotation separation of zinc or copper sulfide minerals from iron sulfide gangue minerals in three massive sulfide ores of different mineral composition. These polymers produced significant improvements in zinc or copper grades as a result of a selective depression of iron sulfide minerals. It was shown that this selectivity was the result of preferential adsorption of the polymer on the surface of the iron sulfide minerals. The different types of interaction between the functional group on the polymers and the sulfide mineral surfaces could explain the trends observed in the flotation results.

"The surface-chemical property of nickel slag fiber was modified in aqueous media in order to act as an active and efficient collector of colloidal amorphous silica from geothermal effluent. Colloidal amorphous silica (0.05 µm) from geothermal wastewater causes operational and ecological problems. It clogs geothermal pipes and waterways, and when disposed to the environment poses hazardous effects on both the flora and fauna ecology. Because colloidal amorphous silica is extremely fine and remains in suspension in aqueous media, conventional solid/liquid processes to remove colloidal silica from its bulk liquid are rendered ineffective.A rapid separation technique is then developed to remove effectively amorphous colloidal silica from its bulk liquid by attaching the extremely fine particles of silica onto a nickel slag fiber coated with magnesium hydroxide, Mg(OH)2. The nickel slag fiber has the following characteristics: a high surface area and predominantly possesses negative charge in aqueous media with an iso-electric point at pH ~2.5. When soaked and saturated with Mg(OH)2 solution, the surface of the nickel slag fiber becomes coated with fine and compacted Mg(OH)2 precipitates. This modifies the surface- chemical property of nickel slag fiber transforming the negatively charged surface into a positively charged surface in aqueous media with an iso-electric point of around pH 11.8, which corresponds to the iso-electric point of Mg(OH)2. When geothermal effluent containing negatively charged colloidal amorphous silica particles (i.e.p. of silica is pH 2) is passed through a column-bed packed with surface-chemically modified nickel slag fibers under natural pH conditions, the colloidal amorphous silica particles are recovered by attachment onto the surface of the surface- modified nickel slag fiber. The recovery of colloidal amorphous silica by attachment is 97-99%, resulting in the production of a relatively clean and silica free output. Aluminum hydroxide, Al(OH)3, was also used to modify the surface –chemical property of the nickel slag fiber. In the same way, it also exhibited a positive response with the collection of colloidal amorphous silica from its bulk liquid, but yielding a lower recovery of 90%. This may be attributed to the lower surface potential and iso-electric point of pH 9.3 for Al(OH)3. The separation process was evaluated and analysed using existing potential energy theories. Figure 1 shows a micrograph of the surface of an unmodified and the Al(OH)3 –modified surface of nickel slag fiber."

"This paper addresses the need for advanced control technologies and strategies in the mining industry, its potential and actual impact on mining processes and the best practices for their implementation, operation, and long term sustainability. It is well known that advanced process control (APC) can be a very good source for incremental process improvement for the mining industry, yielding to higher production rates or helping maintain consistent production rates despite ore changes. The application and integration of new technology, process knowledge and innovation are key elements in building such a supporting structure. More specifically, and this cannot be emphasized enough, the correct application and assembly of control tools, the in-time presentation of key data to decision makers and the development of relevant statistics and KPI’s (key performance indicators) can and will make a difference not only in terms of production, but also in plant stability, availability and production costs. In deploying such ideas and aiming at the long-term goal of "Operational Excellence", Minera Los Pelambres (MLP) has developed a number of successful control strategies, best practices and technologies, which are not only the application of state-of-the-art automation and computing tools, but rather the assembly of the above presented structuring factors. This work discusses some of the key tools and ideas implemented for SAG & Ball milling and Flotation areas, their performance results and the roadmap taken for the integration of process knowledge and control tools. Also, cases studies are presented and discussed further to not only show the main areas of improvement, but also to highlight the benefits of such strategy that for the most part, deviate from the traditional mining industry control approach. Also, a word is given on the need for innovating in the design of control strategies and leveraging best practices and process knowledge that ultimately, will contribute to long-term reliable operations, improved mineral processing and, although unmeasured, lead to a superior overall performance and productivity of all mining personnel involved."

"The paper supports applicability of satellite imagery at regional and local level for rapid quantitative assessment of natural environment in zones of activity of mining complex enterprises. Exacerbation of environmental problems during mineral mining and processing associated with their scale and geography of field distribution through the vast territory of our country requires constant monitoring of natural environment status, which necessitates engagement of space surveillance nowadays. It is proposed to use the monitoring of land cover and land use at regional and local level for the environmental assessment of a particular production or complex productions. You must establish the dependence of NDVI change trend with the magnitude of anthropogenic impact on the source or multiple sources of environmental pollution a particular area.. We present the results of studies of vegetation remote sensing methods in a number of territories placing mining enterprises. INTRODUCTION Ensuring a healthy environment is necessary both in untouched areas and disturbed. The condition of the developed territories should be monitored with particular attention, since the restoration of the disturbed territories requires great efforts and financial costs. More narrowly, the health of the environment (Zakharov V.M. and etc.,2001) means its quality ensuring the health of man and other species of living organisms, which includes two aspects (Zakharov V.M. and etc, 2000): - ensuring an environment conducive to human health as a biological species: - maintaining the health of the natural environment, i.e. its constituent species of living organisms and plants. The consequence is the disturbance of natural ecosystems, which determines the quality of the environment, favorable for human habitation and the state of health of the population in total determine the status of the territories where enterprises for the development of georesources are located and allow them to be ranked according to the degree of environmental danger. Without knowledge of the trajectory of ecosystem successions, it is impossible to offer adequate requirements for the technologies used to ensure the implementation of the preserved natural potential after the removal or reduction of man-made stress."

"Increased mechanisation in underground stoping operations results in higher waste percentages in the run of mine. A new method of reducing waste is optical sorting. Optical sorters have low maintenance costs and can be installed underground. Rejected waste can be backfilled directly without having to be hoisted, therefore increasing the shaft capacity for a more valuable product.Pre-Concentration by Optical SortingA series of tests with an optical sorter at the laboratories of the Mineral Processing Department of the RWTH Aachen have shown that it is technically possible to sort almost any kind of ROM which has even slight differences in colour (Platinum Reef, Gold Reef, Kimberlites, Industrial Minerals, Aggregates, Coal, etc.).By employing optical sorters prior to conventional sorting plants, it is possible to reduce the amount of waste to be processed. Figure one shows test results of ore which is quite similar in colour to the waste (grey). With increasing waste in the feed, the recovery decreases according to the graph. In figure two, the colour ratio parameter of the sorter was changed with a similar waste percentage in the feed. With increasing loss of ore, a cleaner product can be achieved. Before designing a sorting plant, throughput tests are carried out. Throughputs vary depending on the size range. Sorters have a limit of about 250mm top size. In this upper size range, throughputs of 150t/h can be achieved."

In conventional flotation machines, the recovery is strongly related to particle size. As particle size increases, the recovery also increases, reaching a maximum in the range 20 to 120µm. Beyond this range however, the recovery declines quite quickly. The reason for the decline in recovery observed with coarse particles can be traced to the effect of turbulence. Bubbles trapped in turbulent eddies rotate rapidly, and when the centrifugal force on a particle exceeds the retaining forces due to surface tension, the particle detaches. Since the centrifugal force varies as the cube of the diameter of the particle, and the attachment force varies simply as the diameter, being proportional to the length of the contact line, it is clear that detachment forces will predominate as the particle size increases. The corollary is that the recovery of coarse particles can be improved if the level of the turbulence in the cell can be reduced to a minimum. In this paper, a new type of flotation machine will be described, in which the particles to be floated are suspended in a fluidized bed. An up flow of fluidizing water is provided, by recycling liquid from the top of the cell. The recycle stream is aerated in a high-energy device that disperses the air into fine bubbles that capture the fines and ultrafines. Results are presented for several minerals and coarse coal. Centrifugal separation opens its new application fields in the Mining Industry. The up-to-date equipment for ultra-fine ore and concentrates grinding allows an efficient use of centrifugal concentration for micronic gold grains recovery. Moreover, advanced centrifugal concentrators are presented on the market: concentrators with continuous concentrate discharge designed both for ore and non-metallic minerals concentration process. The conducted tests proved the centrifugal concentration to be efficient process for gold recovery from finely ground concentrates and ores (less than 20 µm). Knelson concentrator application for such a fine material in different process circuits makes possible to raise the total gold recovery level of plants. In the circuits of coal plants and in course of coal slimes treatment the centrifugal concentration may be used before flotation in order to improve process performances. A new kind of mixed chelate collector was prepared in order to separate gangue (mainly quartz) and iron minerals efficiently during room temperature. The collector was was composed of two chelate collectors DES and DA. Floatation tests were carried out under 28?C with mixed magnetic concentrates of Donganshan sintering plant, and optimal test conditions were obtained, in which a direct floatation was undertaken and then a close circuit reverse floatation tests ( one roughing, one cleaning, and two scavenging), and a result of Fe grade of siderite concentrate 36.49%, Fe recovery of siderite concentrate 10.65%, Fe grade of final concentrate 66.27%, Fe recovery of final concentrate 78.25%, and Fe grade of tailing 16.22% was gained. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectra and Zeta potential of siderite and quartz adsorbed the DES and DA collectors before and after were measured in order to analyze the reaction between the collector and minerals. Furthermore, Molecule electronegativity of DES and DA was calculated by Electronegativity Proportionality Principle (EPP). Results showed that DES molecules have five active adsorbing sites and their molecule electronegativity was stronger while DA molecules have three active adsorbing sites, which all make the mixed collector has efficiently collecting performance. Zeta potential results of Quartz and siderite showed that at pH 11.5 both kinds of particles charged negative and at this pH value the mixed collector were mainly anionic collectors which indicate that electrostatic adsorption does not exist at this situation. FTIR results showed that characteristic peaks of the mixed collector changed before and after adsorption with the minerals, which means that there exists chemical adsorption or hydrogen bonding.

"The results of mineralogical and technological studies of platiniferous dunites from Svetloborsky zonal massif (Urals platinum belt) are presented and the basic typomorphic signs of productive mineral assemblages are substantiated. The characteristic features of platinum ore mineralization are revealed: a wide range of iron-platinum alloys, enrichment of ore-formed system by the elements Os, Ir, Rh and activity of the S and As in it, intrusion of Fe-Ni sulfides in platinum and its fusion with magnetite. More than 80% of PGM mineral grains has size less than 100 microns, that determines the possibility of significant losses of platinum in the process of gravity separation and the need for additional recovery processes for small and fine fractions of platinum tailings and sludge products. Summarized results of laboratory tests of small-volume sample processing of platiniferous dunites are presented and the processing flow sheet is developed and tested. The flow sheet incorporates several stages, including stage-wise grinding and gravity separation of ore using the centrifugal concentrator Knelson KS-MD for differently sized material and flotation treatment of tailing products using new classes of reagents for additional recovery of PGM fines."

The aim of this research is to extract zinc from complex lead and zinc ore containing carbo- silicate lead and zinc minerals using sulphuric acid. Samples, taken from Dareh Zanjireh mine located in central of Iran, were subjected to leaching tests after calcination process. Experiments were planed according to the Taguchi statistical method. The calcinated samples contain 13.98% zinc and the constituting minerals being dolomite and zincate. Various parameters such as speed of mixing, temperature, time, solid to liquid ratio and pH were studied. A solid to liquid ratio of 1:6 gr/mL at 60°C and 800 rpm speed of mixing for 30 minutes resulted in a product with 85.96% zinc recoveries.

Flotation is a separation process in which mineral recovery depends on the particle surface properties. The selective collection of particles by air bubbles requires hydrophobic mineral surfaces. Hydrophobicity can be selectively induced on a valuable mineral surface by means of reagents. For this purpose, it is required that mineral grains in the ore become physically liberated or exposed in the particle surface after grinding. The grinding process generates three types of particles according their exposed surface in the floatable mineral: locked particles (0-10%), associated particles (10-90%) and liberated particles (90-100%). Locked particles have low floatability, and they typically show low recovery (<20%), while liberated particles have a high floatability and can be easily recovered (98-100%) at different particle sizes (10-150 µm). The main challenge in the flotation process is the recovery of associated particles. These particles typically have recoveries of 20-80%, but strongly depend on the particle size, particle surface liberation and collector dosage. Recent studies on particle floatability by size-liberation have significantly contributed to improving the characterization of flotation processes. In this work, a study of flotation recovery of associated particles of 10-90% liberation is presented for particle sizes (10-150 µm) and collector dosages (5-40 g/ton). In this work historical data on galena recovery based on particle cross-section composition of galena was used, assuming they represent an acceptable estimate of particle surface composition, as shown by some previous researchers. The results showed that galena recovery can be well represented by a model consisting of the interaction of a linear function and a Gamma distribution function to account for the liberation and the particle size effects. Consequently, an alternative approach for modelling the recovery of associated mineral (10-90% liberation), with a reduced number of parameters, was developed and validated.

"Among the problems of the civilization development, a problem of interaction between man and natural environment can be highlighted. In the twentieth century the human transforming activity had got scales of geological processes and defined the contradiction between the goal to increase the quality of human life and possibilities of the natural environment. Last twenty-five years after the World Summit on the Environment (1992) indicate that the development of civilization is still based on receiving super profits from the natural resources exploitation. This statement is confirmed by economy globalization rates, growing contradictions between consumption and production, depletion and degradation natural environment. A new technological order is formed at the time of growing world population, technological capacities, organizational complexity, from one side, and global scales of geo-resources consumption, on the other side. Sciences, determining the further civilization development, should take on the task to change the social worldview, since the preservation of human population consists in remediating and maintenance of biosphere functions as a regulator of ecological balance. The new worldview in the geo-resources exploitation is based on the Ecological strategy of mining development, which consists in reducing mining-induced loading on natural environment while increasing efficient mineral production and processing, and providing for a comprehensive solution of tasks on mineral deposit development. One of strategic trend of mining development is to increase complexity and completeness of useful component extraction from ore and mining deposits while reducing wastes and decreasing their stockpiled volumes. The implementation of the ecological strategy has shown that the future is determined by reduction of the environmental impact while improving the efficiency of mineral mining and processing.INTRODUCTION The global nature of environmental problems caused by the scale of consumption of natural resources, huge amounts of waste, and intensive man-made impact on the environment requires a revision of the strategy for the natural resources development. Many existing technologies are ineffective in achieving the ultimate goal. Direct output in the raw materials - the end product technological chain rarely exceeds 10%, which implies a huge amount of work to move the soil. Most of the quantity of the water soluble xanthates, used in mineral flotation, is consumed in the process. However, the residue amounts are water contaminants downstream the mineral processing operations and can be toxic to aquatic biota at concentrations of 1 mg/L. In order to be able to discharge water from tailing ponds to natural water bodies the concentration of xanthates has to be decreased. The present paper studies the uptake of potassium ethyl xanthate by directly modified with copper and lead ions natural zeolitic rock, without passing through zeolite transformation into homoionic form. Modified zeolite exhibits high, comparable with powdered activated carbon of chemical purity grade, capacity to remove potassium ethyl xanthate from model wastewater, with pH in the range of 7?9 and pollutant concentration in the range of 10-150 mg/L. The pollutant immobilization is fast. Both Cu and Pb modified zeolite behave as selective with respect to xanthate in the model wastewater, and Cu-modified zeolite possesses higher selectivity. Mineralogical studies indicate the Pt-Pd-Bi-Te class to react poorly on the flotation stimuli and indications are that these minerals are slow floaters. However, recent studies performed on a number of minerals from this class indicated strong interactions with potassium ethyl xanthate resulting in the formation of dixanthogen (only one of several xanthate species). The poor flotation response is not a result of poor interaction of xanthate with the surface. It is proposed that the oxidation products of sulfides in the process water interact with the PGM surface. To test this, the effect of thiosulfate (an important oxidation product of sulfides) was investigated by employing electrochemical measurements and FTIR spectroscopy. The electrochemical investigations indicate no strong effect of thiosulfate on the interaction of xanthate with the minerals surface as well as the reduction of oxygenthiosulfate is likely not responsible for the poor flotation response of these minerals in industrial plants.

"This paper describes the process flow of a selective processing method for acidic mine waters formed in the copper sulfide industry and characterized by a high content of copper, iron, and manganese ions. The proposed method comprises a series of sequential processes: the 1st stage is the recovery of Cu2+ ions by precipitation, the 2nd stage is the recovery of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions as a dispersed phase by acid-base precipitation, followed by recovery in the 3rd stage of Mn2+ ions by converting Mn2+ with an oxidizing agent into insoluble forms of manganese and subsequent recovery of the dispersed phase by electroflotation. The developed method was tested on the acidic tailing storage facility (TSF) water of a mining project in the Urals region. The practical results of the implementation of the developed method have shown that its implementation will allow to recover copper, iron, and manganese in the form of salable products with a simultaneous decrease in their concentrations in adjacent water bodies down to the applicable MPCs. The process is a simple one, does not require any sophisticated expensive equipment and can be implemented either as a standalone solution or as part of existing treatment facilities. INTRODUCTION As a result of unsustainable utilization of natural resources in Russia, only a small fraction is processed into commodity products, while the rest is systematically dumped as emissions, effluents, and other wastes, polluting the environment. By amount of waste and concentration of valuable components, those wastes can be classified as aqueous technogenic resources [1, 2]. Therefore, the development of processing methods for this mineral resource category is an urgent and priority task that will significantly improve the industry’s profitability and the environmental conditions in the respective regions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Following research methods were mainly applied in this study: lab-scale and pilot-scale tests in a diaphragmless two-chamber electric flotation cell; for solutions and recoverable process products — chemical analysis using photometric determination techniques for metal cations and atomic adsorption determination techniques for the processing products. The phase composition of the precipitates formed in the process was investigated by X-ray phase analysis in the general-purpose diffractometer with a copper anode DRON-1."

Certain types of rock phosphates of sedimentary origin are applied to acidic soils as fertilizer directly. Recent research in India showed that high grade rock phosphate in fine size when used as a mix with organic manure works as efficiently as di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) in alkaline soils. The rock phosphate from Jhamarkotra, India (sedimentary origin), Egypt (sedimentary origin) and South Africa (volcanic origin) showed good agronomic efficiency when used as Phosphate Rich Organic Manure (PROM). Further PROM shows equal residual effect. The results of efficiency of PROM made using two grades (+ 24% P2O5 and 34% P2O5) of rock phosphate mineral from Jordan show that low grade rock phosphate slimes are as effective as high grade phosphate concentrate when used in PROM. Also PROM is very effective in the saline soil of Eshidiya desert where DAP is not at all effective.

"Electrochemical studies of metal sulfides in connection with their floatability are discussed. According Frumkin, sorption of electroneutral organic substances has a maximum near the potential of zero charge. This idea initiated attempts of application of electrochemical methods for the controlling of organic collector sorption and mineral flotation. The lecture reviews results of electrochemical studies of the processes taking place during sulfide flotation: redox-state of mineral surfaces and xanthate solutions, xanthate sorption and hydrophobic layer composition, surface wettability and flotation recovery of sulfide minerals. Redox-transitions of minerals, transport of ions and charging of mineral surfaces, electroreduction of dissolved oxygen and accompanying processes of oxidation of minerals and reagents-collectors, - all these matters became the subjects of detailed research. Cyclic voltammetry, rotating disk electrodes, spectro-electrochemical techniques and other modern experimental methods now routinely accompany studies of mineral processing. Relatively new electroanalytical techniques like the voltammetry of mineral particles immobilised on electrodes using polymeric binders have become extremely useful for studying weakly conductive minerals and dispersed flotation products. Full discussion of electrochemical studies of metal sulfides in relation to mineral processing must include bioelectrochemistry and electrocatalysis which open exceptional possibilities for selective leaching of gold and non-ferrous metals. At this time, the paper focuses on the sulfide flotation as a potential-dependent process; the problem of oxygen and its influence on the sulfide flotation; the electrochemical aspects of xanthate oxidation and sorption; theory of suspended electrodes as applied to the mineral slurries and experimental study of the effect of electrochemical pretreatment of flotation pulps."
