The prevention of dental enamel wear has particular relevance for preventive and restorative purposes in dentistry. The wear damage can increase due to salivary disorders and/or parafunction (bruxism); antagonists incisal surfaces become flat and coincident. This study aims to investigate the wear behavior and the related mechanisms in sliding pairs of conformal incisal enamel, with similar values of hardness and fracture toughness, with different applied normal loads and lubricated conditions. Bovine incisors, under pin on flat configuration, were tested in two lubrication condition (dry or with natural saliva) and two applied normal loads (8 and 16 N). The worn surfaces were investigated by 3D profilometry and SEM. The analysis of worn surfaces indicated mechanisms of brittle fracture, but with different severities. Under a normal load of 16 N and dry condition, wear is controlled by a brittle process: microcracking with flake-like wear particles, which results in high friction coefficient (> 0.85), wear rate and wear volume. On the other hand, under a normal load of 8 N and natural saliva, wear took place in the interprismatic region, with consequent exposure of prisms and fracture in localized regions. In this case, the friction coefficient was 16% lower and the wear volume was one order of magnitude lower. Under 8 N and natural saliva, the wear was greater than in the dry condition, probably due to tribochemical reactions.

With the deterioration of the quality of the iron ore, the new conditions of quality of the raw materials (mainly sinter feed) were adapted to their processes, resulting in the need for changes in the chemical quality of the sinter for blast furnaces in the Ternium Brazil, without changing the parameters of chemical, physical and metallurgical quality. Due to the change in this scenario, there was a great impact on the quality of the fine iron ore this year in 2019, due to which the work ranges of sinter MgO and B2 were currently modified to minimize these impacts in the blast furnaces of Ternium Brazil. This work aims to minimize the effects of the sinter worsening, with the reduction of the sinter MgO and B2 bands, with an increase of 2% in the mixture yield and FeT elevation in the range of 1.6% in the sinter product.

Flotation is the main concentration process, has been applied with sucess for the removal of quartz on the iron ore industry aiming high quality concentrates. limiting the top size close to 0,300mm and the removal of slimes are fundamental for the efficiency of reverse flotation of quartz. The high consumption of reagents, leading to insufficient particle coverage, and increased foam stability, leading to the difficulty of removal of quartz particles, are the main deleterious effects of the presence of slimes. Recent characterization studies, together with the development of new collector of linear chain, allowed the obtaining of concentrate with SiO2 contents close to 3% with 94% of metallurgical recovery, based on pilot tests carried out on a sample flotation column of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero.

The Hybrid Pelletized Sinter (HPS) is a agglomeration process that involves the combination of conventional sintering and pelletizing techniques and can be used with the purpose of obtaining improvements in the agglomeration stage of iron ore, and one of the great advantages of the process is the use of a wide particle size range of the ore. In this way, the superfines of low-cost ores, which are improper in sintering, can be used in the HPS process for the formation of the quasi-particle. The use of HPS with the sintering plants of the industries presented throughout the study, enabled an increase in productivity, decreased fuel utilization and reduced slag formation in blast furnaces. Thus, the present study aims to present a review of the literature on the Hybrid Pelletized Sinter (HPS) process and its main characteristics, as well as the results obtained by the companies that adopted the process.

Nowadays, many companies have the idea where to be occupied is to be productive, this work aims to show with practical tests that to get the best performance of the machine with tools of high performance and yield is the best option for a company to become productive and economic at the same time . The company targeted for this work began its activities in the Metallurgical branch more than 75 years, Metisa Metalúrgica Timboense serves the national and international market with several product lines. Due to its large backlog of overdue hours, a job was started in the tooling sector to make the process faster and more economical. In this context, this work has as general objective the restructuring of the critical processes of the tooling sector, aiming at a better functioning of the organization and greater satisfaction of its direct clients. In addition, this work has specific objectives, such as (1) application of high performance tools, (2) analysis and improvement of existing processes, development and application of new processes, (3) (High Speed Machining) (4) production monitoring and technical support for maintenance of new processes. Thus, after the implementation of the process improvements, it was possible to obtain a reduction of 81% in the final cost and 80.5% in the process time. In addition, with some of the new processes deployed, there was a reduction in the use of personal resources and better management of machine hour load and a significant gain in the sector response time.

Um modelo matemático tridimensional, via software Fluent 14.0, de modo a descrever o fluxo, em regime transiente e isotérmico dos fluidos escória e nitrogênio, foi utilizado para avaliar o comportamento de slag splashing em um convertedor a oxigênio com o propósito de reparar as regiões desgastadas do revestimento de trabalho deste reator. Para um dado padrão de sopro foi investigou-se o efeito de parâmetros tais como temperatura, densidade, viscosidade e tensão interfacial. Os resultados são comparados com dados de projeção disponíveis na literatura.

Filtration is the operation of liquid solid separation commonly applied in the mining industry. The use of filtering chemical agents is a technical solution viable for filtering optimization. The present work proposed to evaluate two filtering chemical agents (surfactants) to reduce the final moisture content of iron ore concentrate from Ferrous Resources. The leaf test top feed was done with the FLOTICOR FA 7241 and FLOTICOR FA 16557 products. The foaming profile of the filtrate was also evaluated, once excessive foaming is undesired when using this kind of products. The results showed a reduction in the final moisture of the filter cake. The product FLOTICOR FA 16557 achieved the best results, reducing final cake moisture from 10.4% to 9.8% at the dosagem of 25 g/t, besides presenting a fast kinetics in the foam drainage, presenting itself as a technical alternative for filtration optimization.

Redução no consumo específico (KW/t) de energia elétrica em um dos moinhos de bauxita na refinaria da Alumina na CBA (Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio do grupo Votorantim Metais) através do uso da Metodologia Six Sigma e ações de substituição do óleo mineral por óleo sintético de alta performance, implantação do sistema de blindagem e de resfriamento no redutor deste moinho, onde foi alcançado um resultado de 5,45% de redução neste consumo específico e de 25% na temperatura de trabalho deste redutor, superando as expectativas inicias previstas.

The pelletizing process allows inputs to be added to the mixture resulting in better control of the physical, chemical and metallurgical characteristics desired by the pellet. Anthracite is incorporated as input of the pellets as an alternative form of fuel, making the burning more homogeneous, "from the inside out", benefiting the physical resistance of the burned pellets and aiming to reduce the cost of natural gas during the stage of hardening. However, the amount of anthracite should not exceed an optimum value, which may cause an adverse effect on the physical quality of the pellets. Hence, it is very important an accurate control of the coal dosage. Based on that, the present study presents the implementation of a control using advanced control system that applies, using linear regression of historical data, the optimum relationship between anthracite and ore (respecting the physical quality of the pellets during processing in pelletizing furnaces). After the implementation of this control, it was possible to adjust the anthracite dosage automatically, measured in percentage of fixed carbon in the mixture, when the process is able, thus reducing the specific consumption of natural gas.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar a melhor condição para promoção de recristalização de um aço inoxidável ferrítico 430, estabilizado ao Nb, no processo de laminação à quente de acabamento. Ensaios de torção foram realizados para simular o processo de laminação em laminador Steckel, utilizando diferentes temperaturas de laminação. Ensaios interrompidos foram realizados para avaliar a recristalização entre os passes. As amostras ensaiadas foram analisadas por microscopia ótica e EBSD. Como resultado do trabalho, foram levantados os esquemas de laminação mais favoráveis para promover a recristalização. Estes esquemas poderão fornecer subsídios para estabelecimento de prática padrão industrial de laminação deste aço adequada para promover a recristalização.

Un objetivo de seguridad y calidad en los moldes de la colada continua de Siderar fue la de tener un menisco estable y controlado. A lo largo de los distintos periodos de inversiones y mejoras, el control de nivel de Siderar logro como objetivo contener su variación de nivel de acero en el molde en un rango de variación menor a +/-2 mm y con una velocidad de cambio inferior a 1,5 m/segundos. Esta etapa trajo una relativa mejora en los aspectos mencionados (calidad y continuidad operativa) pero el hecho de tener como sistema de medición de nivel un sistema radiactivo (fuente Co60 y contador de centelleo) mantenía serias limitaciones en ambos rubros dado que este sistema no diferencia la interface escoria /polvo colador con el menisco de acero. Este trabajo tratará de mostrar y contar las tareas de desarrollo y aplicación de esta nueva tecnología, hoy vigente en la nueva Colada Continua N° 2 (CCD2) y en etapa de puesta en marcha de la CCD1.

The Minas-Rio project of the Anglo American group was designed to produce pellet feed from a low-grade itabirite. The comminution circuit has three HPGR’s and two ball mills. This type of circuit, with HPGR (open circuit) followed by ball milling (closed circuit), is called a hybrid circuit. The literature shows this hybrid circuit as being more energy efficient. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the benefits of using the HPGR in the energy consumption of the grinding and regrinding and the secondary objective was to show the impact of the press on mass recovery of desliming and flotation, in view of a possible higher generation resulting from the pressing of the material. The results obtained in this work showed that the HPGR reduced the specific energy consumption in the comminution stages existing downstream of the press, increased the recovery of the flotation and did not decrease the recovery of the desliming stage.

Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar as melhores condições para promover a recristalização entre passes, durante a laminação a quente em laminador Steckel, de um aço inoxidável ferrítico AISI 430 estabilizado ao Nióbio. A laminação a quente de acabamento foi simulada através de ensaios de torção utilizando um esquema em diferentes temperaturas. A ocorrência de recristalização entre os passes de laminação foi estudada através de interrupções antes de alguns passes. As amostras ensaiadas foram analisadas por microscopia ótica e MEV-EBSD (difração de elétrons retro-espalhados). Os resultados deste trabalho mostraram ser possível promover a recristalização entre passes durante a laminação de acabamento do aço AISI 430 estabilizado ao Nb. Foi, ainda, estabelecida a melhor faixa de temperatura para a promoção de recristalização.

The effect of the cooling conditions on the microstructure and hardness of a Dual Phase hot-rolled steel 800 MPa strength was investigated. Simulations of the cooling conditions using a dilatometer were carried out from samples of a hot rolled coil with variations of the intermediary temperature from 620 to 740°C, isothermal holding time between 1 and 10 s and coiling temperature between 50 and 400°C. In addition, two CCT (Continuous Cooling Transformation) diagrams were developed to evaluate the effect of the isothermal holding time on the phase transformations of the remaining austenite. It was observed that the intermediary temperature has a strong influence on the kinetics of the phase transformation, as well as the isothermal holding time influences the amount of ferrite formed and, consequently, the final microstructure and hardness of the material. The coiling temperature did not cause significant changes in the amount and morphology of the ferrite, but a gradual replacement of martensite with bainite was observed, which, in addition to the self-tempering effect, contributed to the hardness reduction.

Revestimentos de conversão nanocerâmicos são obtidos pela imersão de peças metálicas em soluções contendo íons de titânio, zircônio, cério entre outros. Esses revestimentos vêm sendo estudados como uma alternativa a outros processos de conversão que possuem inconvenientes ambientais, como a cromatização e a fosfatização. No presente trabalho foram formuladas diferentes soluções a base dos ácidos hexafluorozircônio e hexafluortitânio para a deposição de revestimentos nanocerâmicos sobre substratos de aço galvanizado. O objetivo é mapear os efeitos dos parâmetros de processo de obtenção do revestimento quanto ao desempenho contra corrosão. Os parâmetros estudados foram a concentração, o pH e o tempo de imersão nas soluções formuladas. Para avaliar os revestimentos obtidos foram realizados ensaios eletroquímicos de espectroscopia de impedância complexa. Os resultados indicam uma forte interação entre o pH e a concentração dos ácidos em solução e que concentrações mais baixas geram uma proteção mais eficaz O melhor conjunto de parâmetros foi para menor pH, concentração e tempo de imersão.

This research is based on a bibliographical review of a field work that was done in the municipality of Parelhas / RN. The area explored, in turn, is known for its richness of mineral resources that are present in pegmatitic rocks. The general objective of this research is to characterize the main properties of the pegmatites and quartzite, in order to verify the heterogeneity of the elements, to raise a possible viability of extraction for economic purposes. The quartzite also presents a siliceous chemical composition. This rock is a source of bricks and silica refractories used in the steel industry and for the preparation of the blast furnace bed, ornamental rock used in different ways (rustic, carved, polished, among others). However, this research resulted in preliminary data, but it would be interesting to be more detailed in order to evaluate the economic viability of these rocks.

Existem vários tipos de compressores centrífugos de gás, mas em todos o sistema de controle de capacidade influencia diretamente a performance do compressor e também a capacidade máxima de compressão do mesmo. O Controle de Capacidade do Compressor por ser realizado a partir de válvulas tanto na sução bem como na descarga em forma de vent ou mesmo uma válvula em forma de recirculação. Todos os sistemas operam como forma de controle de capacidade mas o mais eficiente é por meio de controle por uma válvula na sucção do compressor, pois tanto a recirculação como um vent na descarga não reduzem o consumo de energia elétrica de forma eficiente pela vazão entregue. Neste trabalho trataremos particularmente de um controle de capacidade por meio de válvulas de sucção em compressores de nitrogênio centrífugos procurando uma forma mais eficiente de compressão e também elevar a capacidade de compressão.

This work studied the effect of different ball sizes in the secondary grinding stage of Samarco. The Moly-Cop Tools 3.01 spreadsheet was used for models calibration and simulations, considering grinding balls topsize of 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35mm diameters. A normal specific selection function up to the largest fed ore particle size (840μm) was obtained. The higher generation of fines and compliance with particle size specifications (+ 74μm and -44μm) proved to be more favorable for smaller ball sizes. The specific energy consumption was lower for the 15mm ball (10.7kWh/t), increasing up to the 35mm ball (13.0kWh/t). Although smaller diameter balls seem to be the best option for the size specifications, some factors may limit their use, such as: the higher generation of specific surface area; and the amount of ball purge in the discharge of the mills.
