The presence of high noise levels in many industries, together with the fact that countries are becoming increasingly concerned with the health of its citizens, has contributed to the importance of the problem of hearing loss. This problem has become the focus of scientific research, law and medicine, and the object of this thesis is to present the means whereby noise may be detected, with its resulting effects and possible means of control, in mining operations. 0BJECTIONABLE noise is a particularly prevalent by-product of the mining industry, and, al-though a dangerous noise level has been recognized, it is believed that at no time now, or in the future, will it be possible to enumerate a single over-all decibel figure at which hearing impairment will oc-cur. Individual susceptibility must be recognized in any study of occupational loss of hearing aimed at the setting of standards and criteria for industrial noise control.

The EKATI"" Diamond Mine commenced operation in October 1998. It is operated by BHP Diamonds Inc., which is a part of the Non-Ferrous and Industrial Materials Division of BHP Minerals, a business unit of BHP Company Ltd. of Melbourne, Australia. The EKATI"" Diamond Mine is a joint venture of BHP Diamonds Inc. (51%), Dia Met Minerals Ltd. (29%), Charles E. Fipke (10%) and Dr. Stewart L. Blusson (10%). In December 1993, an office was opened in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories specifically for the then Northwest Territories Diamonds Project (EKATI"" Diamond Mine) development. EKATI"" Diamond Mine is located 300 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife and 200 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories of Canada (Figure 1 ). The site is located in a remote tundra area of continuous permafrost, north of the tree line, which is part of the Canadian Shield. Wekweti (Snare Lake), a Dogrib community approximately 180 kilometres southwest of the project, is the closest neighbour. The mining area and facilities lie within the 10 960 hectares land leases held by the joint venture. The total claim block (core zone and buffer zone joint ventures) covers 344 000 hectares. To date, more than one hundred kimberlite pipes have been identified within the claims. Five of these provide the basis for the present mine plan. Total capital investment in the project is over C$700 million. At full production employment will be about 600, including employees and long-term contractors, with over 33% being Aboriginal from the Northwest Territories.

"The new smelting process commenced operation in 1978. The pelletizing and sinter plants were replaced with slurry-fed roasters and the blast furnaces with electric furnaces. The existing converter aisle and matte handling facilities remained unchanged.Process DescriptionNickel-copper concentrate is partially roasted in two slurry-fed fluid bed roasters. After gas cleaning, the sulphur dioxide gas is transferred to the acid plant. The roaster product is conveyed to two electric furnaces for smelting to produce a waste slag and furnace matte. The slag goes to the disposal area and furnace matte containing the metal values is processed in the converters for further removal of iron and sulphur.The final matte containing about 75 per cent metal values is shipped to the refinery in Norway.The commercial smelter was designed for 2135 tonnes per day of concentrate, with an availability of 85% . Roasters and electric furnaces were sized at 117 per cent of design, or 1250 tonnes per day on each of two lines. Concentrate storage capacity in the plant is sufficient for two to three days' plant operation.The new smelting process will be discussed under the following headings:Concentrate Slurry HandlingFeed PreparationRoaster OperationRoaster Gas CleaningCalcine TransferElectric Furnace Operation and Process Control Converting and Matte HandlingUnder these headings, process control , equipment changes, and plant performance after three years' operation is reviewed. "Gold recovery gains in the order of one to two percent have been realized in 2009 due to changes in the operation of the grinding circuits at Barrick Gold Corporation’s Hemlo - Williams Mill. The initiative known as “split milling” involves milling low grade open pit ore in one grinding circuit and higher grade underground ore in the other grinding circuit under different conditions.The philosophy of split milling involves processing higher grade underground ore at a lower throughput rate and a finer grind while milling lower grade open pit ore at a higher throughput rate and a coarser grind. Bench scale tests showed that the recovery relationship for underground ore sources was much more grind sensitive than that of open pit ore. This relationship proved to hold in the plant. The gold recovery gain due to finer grinding of the higher grade ore is much greater than the recovery loss due to coarser grinding on the lower grade ore. Since the majority of gold is being recovered at a higher rate, this results in higher overall plant gold recovery when compared to the traditional operation philosophy of blending the ore sources.The challenges for achieving the maximum benefits of split milling were two fold; the need to increase throughput on the open pit ore milling circuit and a means of grinding finer on the underground circuit. The former was met with an increase in SAG (Semi-Autogenous Grinding) mill ball charge, a basic “drill to mill” blasting campaign and changes to the primary gyratory crusher. The latter was met with a reduced SAG mill ball charge and a higher milling density. The resulting benefits in additional gold recovered are in the order of $3-5 million per annum.INTRODUCTIONThe Williams Mill processes ore from three different ore sources, the David Bell Mine (DB), the Williams Underground Mine (WUG) and the Williams Open Pit (OP). All three ore sources are located within the Hemlo camp in Northwestern Ontario adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway. The Williams Mill was built in the mid 1980’s at which time it was designed to process 3,000 dry metric tonnes per day through a 22’ SAG mill in series with a 16’ ball mill. In 1988 a Mill expansion doubled the mill capacity by adding a second identical grinding circuit. A photo of the current grinding circuit can be seen in Figure 1. Today the Williams Mill processes an average of 8,000 tonnes per day of which approximately 60% is from the Williams Open Pit."

Incorporated in 1957 under the laws of the Province of Quebec, Quebec Cartier Mining Co. undertook the development of its low-grade iron ore reserves located at Lac Jeannine in the southwest extremity of the Quebec-Labrador trough. This challenge comprised the construction of a 200-mile access road, two towns, a 191-mile-long railroad from Port Cartier to Lac Jeannine, a hydro-electric generating plant on the Hart Jaune River, and mining, crushing, concentrating and ancillary facilities to support a yearly production of 8.0 million tons of iron ore concentrates at 66% Fe. In order to meet increasing market demands for iron ore concentrates concurrently with the depletion of its Lac Jeannine reserves , Quebec Cartier announced, late in 1969, the first step toward bringing into production a new iron ore deposit, known as Mount Wright, located 70 air miles northeast of Lac Jeannine and 25 miles southwest of Labrador City, Newfoundland. In September 1970, the company announced its decision to develop and bring into production its Mount Wright reserves at an annual rate of 1 8.4 million dry long tons. The scope of this project included the construction of an access road linking the mine, the new town and Labrador City, Newfoundland, the extension of the railroad by some 86 miles, the construction of an ore concentrating plant with all the ancillary facilities, the development: of the mine, the construction of a pourer transmission line and a new town adjacent to Lake Daviault. The Mount Wright story is divided into five individual papers covering: (a) the history and development of the project; (b) the mine; (c) plant control by a process computer; (d) crushing, grinding and concentrating; and (e) the townsite of Fermont.

"Gulf Minerals (Canada) Limited' s Rabbit Lake Uranium Operation is located in the northern portion of Saskatchewan, 198 miles southeast of Uranium City and 134 miles northwest of Lynn Lake Manitoba.This paper describes flow sheet changes to solve operating problems and briefly describes future changes to accommodate the new ""B"" Zone ore.The Rabbit Lake mill was designed to process 1600 dry tons per day of uranium ore, with an average grade of 0.370 percent u3o8. In 1981, the mill processed 2040 tons per day at a grade of 0.231 percent u3o8 . The process modifications and flow sheet changes that allowed this increase in tonnage will be discussed in relative chronological order. Mill feed was introduced on June 10, 1975, the original equipment consisted of an Ingersoll Rand hydraulic breaker mounted over a 24"" square grizzly. The - 24"" ore was fed to a 2011 X 6"" seflli autogenous grate discharge mill close circuited with 20"" cyclones, the mill discharge was screened on a tyler double deck screen with the undersize (8 rnesh) reporting to the cyclones, the screen oversize was returned by conveyor belt to the mill feed chute.The cyclone overflow (28 mesh) was thickened in a 100' diameter thickener to obtain 55 percent solids for the leach circuit.The leach circuit consisted of two slurry holding tanks and five leach tanks."

"A kinematically admissible velocity field is applied to study the arching phenomenon in a cohesionless granular backfill placed between two rough vertical inflexible walls. The study is different from the previous works which are almost entirely based on statically admissible stress fields. It is shown that the development of arches is strongly influenced by the previous loading history of the backfill which controls the nature of the constitutive laws that govern the mode of stress deformation of the backfill. This preliminary study employs simple models in order to show the potential use of such an approach in evaluating and understanding mine backfill behaviour in the underground excavation. The pressure exerted on the floor supporting the backfill is also studied in some detail.INTRODUCTIONAlthough the importance of the design of mine backfill has been discussed extensively by a number of authors, i.e. Hassani et al. (1985), such theories have not as yet been incorporated in design criteria for underground mine backfilling operation . One factor that such theories must incorporate is the so-called arching action .The phenomenon of arching has been the subject of study by many researchers in the field of civil engineering and mining engineering. Among these scholars the works of Terzaghi (1943), Krynine (1945), Lusher and Hoeg (1964) and Handy (1985) are noteworthy. All these authors use a statically admissible stress field as a starting point to develop their theories. The approach taken by the authors of the present paper is completely different because they employ a kinematicallyadmissible velocity field. It is their belief that the arching phenomenon is closely linked to the interlocking of grains as manifested by the degree of dilatation of the granular mass when subjected to a shearing process.This paper is written in the following sequence. To define the interlocking quantitatively it is necessary to state the constitutive law governing the stress deformation characateristics of the granular mass. This is done in the next section as the law proposed by Poorooshasb and Pietruszazck (1985, 1986) is stated and simplified to suit the present analysis. Next the mode of formation of an arch in a simple system consisting of a mass of backfill sandwiched between two vertical rough walls of infinite extent is examined. The velocity field obtained from the above example is used to obtain solutions to two more complicated situations. The first situation assumes that the backfill is supported, in addition to the vertical rough walls, by a Winkler foundation at its base. The second situation assumes that the Winkler foundation has been replaced by a horizontal beam of uniform section and simply supported at its extremities. The findings of the study are summarized and their practical implications discussed in the concluding remarks."

Résumé Cent soixante (160) câbles d'ancrage ont été installés au toit de la rampe à la Mine-laboratoire de CANMET à Val-d'Or, Qué bec, Canada, pour prévenir toute dégradation suite à l'élargissement de la voie de roulage dans un secteur tournant à 180 degrés, communément appelé Virage Santa Barbara. Le roc à cet endroit est de nature bloqueuse et stratifiée, et son épaisseur au toit de la rampe est limitée à environ dix (10) mètres, le tout sous une couche de terrain meuble saturée en permanence. Le soutènement mis en place a été conçu pour former une zone de compression et supporter une strate de roc d?environ quatre (4) mètres d'épaisseur. Les critères de conception et les méthodes d'installation sont présentées. Un contrôle de qualité rigoureux a été effectué au moment de la mise en place du support, notamment en ce qui concerne la mise en tension des câbles eux-mêmes et la qualité du béton utilisé lors de l'injection. Des instruments de mesure seront mis en place sous peu pour dépister tout mouvement éventuel au toit de la rampe. Abstract Design and installation of an active mine ground support using tensioned cables at the Experimental Mine, Val-d?Or, Québec, Canada. One hundred sixty (160) cables were installed at the back of the ramp at the CANMET?s Experimental Mine located in Val-d?Or, Québec, Canada, to prevent any degradation of the ground after the enlargement of the roadway in a sector turning at 180 degrees, usually called Virage Santa Barbara. The nature of the rock mass in this area is blocky and stratified, and its thickness above the ramp does not exceed ten (10) metres. Eight (8) metres of soil, mostly saturated, cover the bedrock on top of the ramp. The ground support was designed to form a compression zone at the back, aimed to carry a strata of rock of around four (4) metres thick. The design criteria and the methods of installation of the ground support are described in the paper. A strict control of the quality of the grout used for injection and the tension placed in the cables was carried out during the installation of the support. Ground monitors will be installed soon, to detect any movement that could take place above the ramp.

"Abstract - The NICO and Sue-Dianne deposits are being explored and delineated by Fortune Minerals Limited in the Mazenod Lake District of the Northwest Territories, using an Olympic Dam model. The deposits were discovered in the south part of the Great Bear magmatic zone (GBMZ) within the Proterozoic, Bear Structural Province of the Canadian Shield. They are the only known significant Canadian examples of Proterozoic iron oxide-hosted polymetallic deposits. Worldwide, this class includes such deposits as Olympic Dam and Ernest Henry in Australia, Kiruna-Aitik in Sweden, and Salobo in Brazil. Their considerable size, up to 2 billion tonnes, and polymetallic ore assemblages make them highly attractive targets for exploration. Common characteristics of this class include their Early to Middle Proterozoic cratonic settings with extensional rifting evolving from collisional tectonics. Deposits typically occur along major structural lineaments within the aureoles of a distinctive suite of anorogenic potassium-rich "A-type" granite intrusions. Although hosted by diverse lithologies, deposits of this class are characterized by a number of other diagnostic regional- and deposit-scale features, which may be recognized in reconnaissance- and propertyscale geological and geophysical surveys.The southern GBMZ in Canada has several characteristics (age, tectonic setting, geology and geophysical attributes) similar to those of the Olympic Dam deposit and its other significant global analogues. Airborne and ground geophysical surveys carried out in the GBMZ identified coincident potassium, uranium, magnetic, resistivity, chargeability, and gravity anomalies centered over the NICO deposit. The nearby Sue-Dianne deposit is characterized by coincident uranium, potassium, magnetic, resistivity and chargeability anomalies. Both deposits occur within a regional, northweststriking, arcuate trend of volcanic and sedimentary rocks characterized by significant positive Bouguer-gravity and magnetic responses and are believed to represent a major basement discontinuity. The NICO anomalies are at the intersection of this regional trend with a major transverse fault through Lou Lake. Regional and local geophysical data indicate the presence of significant concentrations of iron oxide within a broad area of intense potassium metasomatism. Geological mapping identified cobalt, gold, bismuth, and copper mineralization in biotite-magnetite-amphibole-sulfiderich ironstone and schist. This mineralization is localized within altered wackes of the Snare Group, which are unconformably overlain by potassium feldspar- (±hematite ±magnetite) altered rhyolite of the Faber Group. The Sue-Dianne deposit is a hematite-magnetite-Fe-silicate-cemented diatreme complex enriched in copper, silver, gold, and uranium within a broad zone of potassium, iron, quartz, and epidote metasomatism. The diatreme is located at the intersection of two major faults at the north end of the basement discontinuity and is hosted in rhyodacite ignimbrite marginal to the Faber Lake rapakivi-granite pluton. At both deposits, diatreme- and maar-facies iron oxide-cemented breccia straddle the regional metasedimentary-volcanic unconformity, suggesting that mineralization formed in a near-surface environment synchronous with the onset of volcanism."

Medium carbon, low alloy, high-strength steels containing Ni, Cr, and Mo are used for the fabrication of various types of high-strength fasteners required for launch vehicle structures. Cold heading properties and response to hardening and tempering are the essential requirements of the material for fabrication and application, respectively. Combining these two requirements is essentially warranted in high-strength fastener-grade steels. Cold heading properties require ductility, which can be achieved through spheroidizing treatments. In the absence of a suitable spheroidizing cycle for medium carbon 3.8 Ni, 1.8 Cr, 0.3 Mo steel, experiments were carried out with a theoretical understanding of the alloy system. This paper presents the experiments and results obtained after a spheroidizing treatment, which was carried out to optimize the process. Hardness measurements were carried out and microstructural studies were conducted to assess the spheroidization process and to determine the optimal spheroidization parameters.

"The stress equilibrium is disturbed in a body of rock by a mine opening and is restored by a redistribution of the stresses around the opening. The pattern of the redistribution of unilateral stress around an opening has been established by mathematical analysis and photoelastic measurements. The pattern for multilateral stress is found by superimposition of unilateral fields. The mathematical analysts do not use the elastic moduli as parameters and they are not significant in photoelastic work. The medium is isotropic. The concept of unilateral stress from vertical loading and the classical pattern of its stress distribution around openings does not explain commonly observed failures around the perimeters of mine openings. They show evidence of compression where tension is postulated.When it is recognized that few minerals and perhaps no rocks are Hooke Solids, most rocks must be St. Venant Solids. The components have varying degrees of elasticity and viscosity. The assembly will be-have elastically to rupture under shock loading, but when loaded short of rupture will adjust viscously to equilibrium. Similarly, the highly elastic components may initiate rupture before equilibrium can be established when stress is instantaneously relieved. Polycrystalline adjustments may produce permanent deformation. The mechanics of consolidation, especially in sedimentary deposits, ac-quire a stress component normal to the direction of compaction which can exceed that of the loading. It is one source of prestress. There are others. The principles of prestress design are based on the normal beam reactions, modified by a built-in compression in the lower chord. When the beam is loaded to design limits, the lower chord retains some compression and the whole beam depth is effective in compression. Some of the . common evidences of failure in compression over a mine opening can be duplicated in a prestressed experimental model.When the triaxial stress pattern is recognized and suitable measuring techniques are devised, mine design can be done on a rational basis."

"INTRODUCTION The Holt-McDermott Mine is wholly-owned gold mining operation of American Barrick Resources Corp. that begun operations in June 1988.The property is located 0.5 km. south of Highway 101 East in the Harker-Holloway Townships of Northeastern Ontario, 7 miles south of Lake Abitibi and 15 miles west of the Quebec-Ontario border.Employees of the operation travel daily from various communities in the area, predominantly from Kirkland Lake, Ont., which is located 65 km. to the southwest.The significance of the operation is that it is the first full scale operation associated to the Oestor-Porcupine Fault to go into full production in recent history as well as the first Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) operation in the province owing to the natural occurring carbonaceous ores that are associated to the ore body and the geological fault systems.GEOLOGYThe Holt-McDermott deposit is located in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt, a short distance west of the Ontario-Quebec border. Ore grade material follows the footwall contact of a fault zone known locally as the McKenna Fault, which is thought to be a splay off of the Oestor-Porcupine Fault, itself a major feature in the Abitibi belt.The McKenna Fault strikes approximately east-west (as does the Oestor-Porcupine) and dips to the south at sixty-five to seventy degrees. The fault lies within a package of mafic volcanic rocks (basalts). These rocks have been strongly altered and mineralized adjacent to the McKenna Fault, and the resulting lens-like ore bodies constitute the mining targets."

"Analysis of gold placer data from gold placers throughout the world suggests that gold grades and volumes cannot be used to distinguish between most types of gold placers. Only the alluvial plain and fan placers are significantly different among the types of gold placers considered. Gold grades and volumes change when working gold placers go from small-volume methods to large-volume methods. The small-volume methods are either of the surface or subsurface (drift mining) type. The odds that a gold placer will be dominantly worked using small volume methods at the surface are about 5:3. Once small volume mining has occurred, the odds against subsequent large-volume mining are about 4:1. If a placer deposit is suitable for large-volume mining, and the amount of gold produced from small-volume mining was reported, an estimate of the remaining gold (log10kg) can be made using the following equation:The relationship shown by this equation suggests that very large gold placers have over half their total gold content in the rich gravels appropriate for small-volume mining. These relationships in conjunction with other data and computer simulation can be used to estimate placer gold resources for an area targeted for mineral resource assessment. IntroductionGold placers have been an important source of gold throughout man's history and may have been one of the first sources-dating back to around 6000 B.C. (Gregory, 1980). From the primitive basket to the modern floating dredge, a variety of methods have been used to work gold placers. Placers are found in a wide spectrum of geologic and climatic settings. They have been classified by using a mixed set of criteria including age (Recent, Tertiary), climate (desert), fluvial position (modern channel, bench, alluvial fan), environment of deposition (eluvial, alluvial, residual, beach), type of transport (stream, wind, glacier), and whether the placer is buried or at the surface (Boyle, 1979; Wells, 1969). Several mining methods have usually been used to extract gold from anyone placer."

Introduction Mineral wool may be defined as "rock, slag, or glass fibres made by a process of melting and blowing by steam or air, containing a minimum of oil and unfiberized material" (U.S. Bureau of Standards CS 117-44). The earliest production of the material was in Wales, about one hundred years ago. In the United States, the industry daces from 1870 when a plant, using slag as raw material, was established in Greenfield, New Jersey. It was not until 1897, however, that large-scale production was commenced on this continent at a plant in Alexandria, Indiana, which utilized rock from nearby deposits. Today, mineral wool is manufactured in many parts of the United States and Canada, the plants for the most part being in close proximity to deposits of suitable rock or to sources of slag. In the United States there are some seventy-five producers with a total annual capacity of nearly one million tons of wool. In Canada, in 1946, eleven manufacturers produced about fifty million square feet of batt-type mineral wool insulation material. Mineral wool is, perhaps, the most efficient of all heat-insulating materials and, moreover, it is fireproof, extremely durable, and insect- proof. Its high efficiency is due to the very low thermal conductivity of the fibres themselves and to the fact that the produce as marketed contains up to 90 per cent non-conducting air space. Depending on the degree of compression of the fibres in the manufactured product, the specific gravity ranges from 2 lb. to 10 lb. per cubic foot. "The base metal mine at Buchans, Newfoundland, has been producing since 1928. For many years, mill tailings were disposed of by dumping into a nearby natural watercourse via which they were transported to Red Indian Lake and deposited. In 1965, environmental concerns prompted the establishment of settling ponds near the mine site. Effluents fed to these ponds included slimes washed from mine backfill sand and waste water pumped from underground as well as mill tailings. Dusting around the perimeter of the ponds was first observed around 1970and within a couple ofyears reached serious proportions. A program to alleviate the condition by developing a vegetative cover over the tailings was commenced in 1974. The work was successfully carried out and demonstrated that the large area of waste could sustain a permanent cover of grasses.This paper outlines the experimental work done at Buchans as well as the procedures followed and the problems encountered in carrying out full-scale revegetation."

"Mineralization at the Main zone of the Clarence Stream gold deposit in southwestern New Brunswick occurs within a parallel series of quartz veins that occupy a NE-trending, steeply north-dipping, brittle-ductile shear zone related to the nearby terrane-bounding Sawyer Brook fault. This deformation zone cuts volcaniclastic sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Silurian Waweig Formation, and is intruded by mantle-derived East Branch Brook gabbroic dikes and a number of felsic dikes. Intermittent shear-zone reactivation during local magmatic activity induced heterogeneous deformation and alteration of the country rocks and dikes. The terminal phase of shearing is associated with narrow pegmatite-aplite dikes that grade laterally into granophyric granite, and into an auriferous quartz vein. Gold, aurostibite, and gold-antimony intergrowths, predominantly with vein quartz, are associated with a low ƒO2 sulfide mineral assemblage (pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, and berthierite) that has a sulfur isotopic signature consistent with a magmatic source. Gold saturation and deposition occurred episodically between 300° and 360°C at low activity of sulfur, predominantly in response to pressure reduction during brittle failure combined with the effects of decreasing temperature and sulfidation reactions during fluid-wall-rock interaction. Geochronological studies demonstrate that the timing of the emplacement of the pegmatite-aplite dikes and associated auriferous veins overlap with that of the Early Devonian Magaguadavic granite. Moreover, the composition of the dikes is consistent with their derivation from this granite as late fractionates. The Main zone of the Clarence Stream deposit is therefore interpreted to be intrusion-related, with the Magaguadavic granite being the ultimate source of the gold-bearing fluids. La minéralisation de la zone principale du gisement aurifère de Clarence Stream dans le sud-ouest du Nouveau Brunswick occupe une série de veines de quartz parallèles dans une zone de cisaillement fragile-ductile de direction NE et à pendage abrupt vers le nord apparentée à la faille de Sawyer Brook avoisinante qui délimite deux terranes. Cette zone de déformation recoupe les roches volcaniclastiques et volcaniques de la Formation de Waweig d’âge Silurien et est recoupée par les dykes de gabbro d’East Branch Brook, d’origine mantellique, ainsi que par divers dykes felsiques. La réactivation intermittente de la zone de cisaillement durant l’activité magmatique locale a entraîné la déformation et l’altération hétérogènes des dykes et de l’encaissant. La phase finale du cisaillement est associée à de minces dykes d’aplite-pegmatite qui passent latéralement à des granites granophyriques, puis à des veines de quartz aurifères. L’or, l’aurostibite et les intercroissances d’or et d’antimoine principalement associées aux veines de quartz sont associés à un assemblage minéral de sulfures à faible ƒO2 (pyrrhotite, arsénopyrite et berthierite) présentant une signature isotopique du souffre compatible avec une source magmatique. La saturation en or et la précipitation a eu lieu épisodiquement entre 300° et 350°C dans des conditions de faible activité de souffre, principalement en réponse à la baisse de pression durant la rupture fragile ainsi qu’aux effets de la baisse de température et aux réactions de sulfuration durant l’interaction entre le fluide et l’encaissant. Les études géochronologiques indiquent que l’âge de la mise en place des dykes de pegmatite-aplite et des veines aurifères qui leur sont associées coïncide avec le granite de Magaguadavic, d’âge Dévonien Précoce. De plus, la composition des dykes est compatible avec une origine provenant de ce granite sous la forme de phases fractionnées tardives. Le gisement principale (Main zone) de Clarence Stream est ainsi considéré comme étant associé aux intrusions, le granite de Magaguadavic étant la source ultime des fluides aurifères."
