This paper describes some advances in flotation research in fines (“F” 38 to 13 µm) and ultrafines (“UF” < 13 µm) mineral recovery by two different techniques, at laboratory scale. Extender flotation and flotation with .multi-bubbles. (bubbles with a wide size distribution) of copper sulphide fines (ore feed of about 1 % Cu) were compared with a .standardised. mill laboratory procedure. Comparative evaluation was made through concentrate grade and recovery (size by size results included), .true. (bubbles-particles attachment only) flotation recoveries and process kinetics. Both techniques yielded higher metallurgical efficiencies than the mill standard but better results were obtained with the extender flotation, with emulsified diesel oil (90 gt-1). Concentrate recoveries were of the order of 85-90 % (84 % in standard conditions), 14-17 % Cu grade (15 % Cu in the standard) and 3.5-4.5 min-1 for the Klimpel rate constant (3 min-1 in the standard). Size by size and true flotation results proved that metallurgical and kinetic gains, obtained with the two techniques, might be attributed to fines and ultrafines enhancement. Data obtained are discussed in terms of physical and physico-chemical parameters related to aggregation and capture (of particles by bubbles) phenomena and the practical potential of these techniques are envisaged.

This contribution deals with the mineral processing of Li-silicate greisen-type ores comprising of quartz, topaz and zinnwaldite (lithium-rich mica). The origin of the greisen-type ores processed is the Ore Mountains(Germany) where it is explored as a potential resource for the production of lithium carbonate. The goal is to develop a process chain for the enrichment of zinnwaldite using dry techniques only. As basis for the investigation the process chain, which historically was used to process the greisen focused on cassiterite and wolframite, is taken and modified towards the zinnwaldite. Starting with crushed material with particle sizes smaller than 35 millimeters, investigations on different approaches to grinding to liberate mica from gangue are carried out. Concentrates of zinnwaldite are then produced by magnetic separation of size fractions. To assess the success of grinding, classification and separation, mineral liberation analysis and atomic absorption spectroscopy are used. The amount of lithium measured in the sample with atomic absorption spectroscopy was used to calculate the content of zinnwaldite based on its known mineral chemistry. Combined with the particle size distributions, product qualities are determined. Altogether, this allows the thorough evaluation of the success of comminution with focus on following steps of concentration. Goethite ore are the third most abundant source of iron. The overwhelming part of these ore is represented by low-grade varieties which cannot be used in iron and steel industry without preliminary beneficiation. Biomass is a renewable solid fuel, which is feasible for the substitution of coke and coal in the manufacturing due to its lower contents of harmful elements and abundant raw material sources. Utilization of biomass in iron ore sintering process as heating agent and reducing agent contributes to energy conservation and emission reduction. The biomass was mixed together with goethite ore for roasting process to investigate the effects of reduction roasting. The results show that the goethite ore is dramatically reduced and magnetized into maghemite by biomass with the biomass dosage less than 20% and the roasting temperature below 650 oC. When the goethite ore roasted with biomass, the magnetization values could be enhanced more than two orders of magnitude, meets the standard of magnetic separation, which could significantly reduce the iron beneficiation cost. "It was presents the results of research on improving reagent regime and scheme of enrichment of slime classes of Apatite-Staffelite ores and tailings stockpile of Kovdorsky enrichment plant. It was investigated the regularities of flocculation in the processes of thickening and selective flotation apatite-bearing ores. It was established character of the influence of flotation reagents on the flocculation process. It was shown that the sodium silicate and soda ash have a stabilizing effect by thickening of sludges. Neonol and oleic acid have a coagulating or flocculating effect. It was tested the new regime flotation, involving an initial conditioning with using of reagent - dispersants before feeding the pulp into the flotation and subsequent conditioning with reagents having a coagulating effect. The flowsheet and reagent regime for enrichment of fine-grained tailings stockpiled was developed, which providing production of standard apatite concentrate and increasing the recovery of valuable components. There are presented results of the research of activities of strong organic surfactant on solubility of colloidal form fatty acid collector and aggregate stability of fine minerals in the process of thickening and flotation. Surfactants such as Neonol have been investigated for increasing the activity of the collectors. When using the process of thickening sludge fraction with flocculant Praestol 2540 and stadial conditioning of sludge were obtained concentrates containing up to 38.1% P2O5 at recovery. INTRODUCTION A feature of the Apatite-Staffelite ores of the Kovdorsky deposit is the presence of a large number of fine mineral particles and a reduced hardness of phosphate minerals (Beloborodov et al., 2010, Tugolukov et al., 2012). Formed in the ore-preparation process, sludges are lost with a discharge in the thickening operation. Sludge is characterized by an increased content of phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5). Losses of P2O5 at enrichment of the stale tailings of Kovdorsky GOK reach 14.0%. The high losses of P2O5 caused a profound study of the behavior of thin apatite classes under conditions of thickening and flotation."

"In recent years, the efficient cementation of mine tailings is a new way to manage mine solid wastes. The traditional cement materials have a slow setting time, large dosage and poor cementation strength for fine aggregate such as mine tailings. Therefore, the preparation of new type cementitious materials for the cementation of fine tailings has great potential in the treatment of mine waste solids. The paper mainly focuses on exploring the critical factors affecting the cementing performance of granulated blast furnace slag and its performance in the cementation of fine aggregate. Results indicate that the fineness of slag has a significant effect on its cementitious activity and Portland cement clinker has a better stimulation effect on the cementitious properties of slag than lime. And, anhydrite has a better early stimulation effect on the cementitious properties of alkali-activated slag compared to semi-hydrated gypsum and dihydrate gypsum. According to a series of tests on the cementation of fine iron tailings, the optimal ratio of slag, Portland cement clinker and anhydrite is determined as 60:30:10. Compared with P.O 42.5 ordinary Portland cement, the new slag based cementitious material shows much better cementing performance on fine tailings sample. Under the dosage of 12%, the compressive strength of fine tailings mortar using slag-based cementitious material in 3 curing days is increased to 168% that of using P.O 42.5 ordinary Portland cement, while the compressive strength in 28 days curing period is increased to 194%."

o meet the ever increasing demand of iron oxide feed stock for rapidly growing domestic steel industries and to effectively manage the depleting reserve of high grade lumpy iron ore, Pelletization of iron ore fines/slimes are expected to play a dominant role in the near future. Use of pellets will also enable the blast furnace operator to achieve higher levels of productivity with lowering of operating cost. The effective utilization of Iron Ore Slimes is important not only from the point of view of optimum utilization of Iron values in the mined ore but also for preventing environmental pollution. A significant amount of slime is being accumulated at the tailing dam of one of the iron ore mines and with the present scale of operation the tailing dam will be filled in another 10 years. Hence to increase the life of tailing dam and for better utilization of the iron values a study has been carried out for the suitability of pellet manufacturing with slimes and fines at our laboratory. The pelletization studies are aimed for optimization of various parameters for production of Blast furnace/ DR grade pellets from beneficiated slimes and Fines. This paper attempts to describe the production of blast furnace grade pellets from beneficiated slime and fines and its characterizations.

Cobalt-rich ferromanganese crust and nodule ores from seamount areas contain volcanic and sedimentary rocks as substrate or nuclei and these ores require mineral processing to remove the substrate/nuclei rock before smelting. This paper reviews the results of jig separation and air table treatment for the coarse fraction and flotation and hybrid jigging for the fine fraction. Using these techniques substrate/nuclei rock was removed from the cobalt-rich ferromanganese oxide components. The mineralogical properties and metallurgical treatment methods including hydrometallurgical treatment of low grade ore is also reviewed.

"The paper presents the results of study of the sorption and flotation properties of the reagents of plant origin - tannin and natural extracts of the oak bark and stems of plants, with a view to their application as a low-cost environmentally friendly modifiers of iron sulfide flotation for the recovery of minerals containing precious metals. The technique of preparation of plant extracts with a fixed content of extractable tannins has been developed.The mechanism of flotation reaction of tannin extracts has been identified as based on their adsorption on the surface of pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite to form strong complexes with iron (III) at concentrations below micelle concentration. It has been found that adsorption of plant extracts occurs without displacement of primarily adsorbed xanthate, and preliminary adsorption of xanthate did not preclude fixation of tannin on the mineral surface.It has been shown that plant extracts having hydrophilizing properties at low concentrations could be applied as selective depressants for pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite in a weakly acidic, neutral or weakly alkaline medium. The use of plant modifiers could help to increase the quality of gold- and platinumcontaining concentrates and reduce the ecological impact on the environment."

The simulation study on the process of iron ore beneficiation plant of Essar Steel, Kirandul was carried out. The iron ore fines and slimes generated nearby Bailadila mines of NMDC are used as raw materials for this beneficiation plant. The capacity of the plant is 1400 TPH operating in parallel in two streams. The capacity of the plant was utilized about 60% of throughput capacity. To improve the plant capacity as well as quality performance, the simulation study was conducted to detect the bottleneck of the process. The process samples were collected from input and output of each processing unit operation to generate the data base for simulation study at the feed rate of 400 and 500 TPH of iron ore fines in a single stream. The characteristics data i.e., breakage and selection functions were generated using MILLSOFT package for simulation of ball mills. Then MODSIM package was used to evaluate the performance of each unit operation to identify the bottleneck. It was established by a simulation study that the intermediate thickener draws high current when the feed rate is more than 400 TPH due to high torque drawn by rotating rake because of presence of coarse particles in the input stream to thickener. The problem was sorted out by classification of input stream of thickener to remove the coarse particles. Then the process was simulated at its rated capacity, and experimental validation studies at the plant were also conducted at the feed capacity of 600 and 700 TPH by modification of process flowsheet. The experimental data was almost matching with simulated data. Finally, the processing plant is running with full rated capacity without any bottleneck. "The effect of EPS components namely protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant purified from Pseudomonas fluorescens was investigated for the bioremediation of Pb(II) ions in aqueous solution. Two parameters, namely the amount of EPS component and the concentration of Pb(II) ions were optimized for maximum Pb(II) ions uptake. The EPS components interacted with Pb(II) ions were characterized using energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) to ascertain the presence of Pb and by attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR–FTIR) to reveal the functional groups involved in Pb(II) binding. The maximum Pb(II) binding capacities of protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant were found to be 11.4, 0.55 and 0.11 mg mg-1 respectively. The biosorption processes followed the Langmuir model. The Gibbs free energy (?G0) values of -23.6, -20.9 and -23.2 kJ mol-1 for Pb(II) biosorption by protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant respectively, attested to spontaneous, chemisorption processes. The ATR–FTIR results revealed the presence and involvement of amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl, phosphate, and methyl functional groups in Pb(II) binding and EDAX analysis confirmed the interaction of Pb with EPS components. The Pb(II) binding mechanisms of EPS have been discussed. The results demonstrate the potential of the purified EPS components of P. fluorescens for removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solution INTRODUCTION Waste water containing toxic metals from various industries pose a serious threat to human health and ecosystem. For treating such waste water, conventional methods like chemical precipitation, coagulation, evaporative recovery, electrodialysis, floatation, flocculation, ion exchange, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration are used (Lakherwal et al., 2014). These methods have some disadvantages like toxic sludge generation, incomplete metal removal and high cost (Singh and Gadi, 2012), necessitating the search for cheaper and efficient alternative methods. Bioremediation is one of the emerging alternatives where bacteria, fungi, yeast, algae and other biological substances are used as sorbents to remove toxic heavy metals (Vijayaraghavan, et al., 2015). Recently, the bioremediation potential of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) of microbial origin has attracted attention. However, for Pb(II) removal, there is a paucity of literature focusing on EPS."

"It developed an alternative to traditional flotation enrichment refractory of complex lead-zinc ores to obtain conditional lead and zinc products. The scheme involves the use of the processing method of gravitational enrichment of the primary cycle and the combined gravity-flotation-hydrometallurgical in finishing. The method has a high level of comprehensive utilization of mineral raw materials in relation to the elements that are extracted in the process of enrichment in lead concentrate, and the increase in recoverable value of processed ores. INTRODUCTION The primary source of lead are complex sulphide lead-zinc ore, lead ore actually rarer. The value of lead and zinc ores (except lead and zinc) is determined by the presence in them of a wide range of associated components: silver, contained mainly in galena; gold; bismuth in the form of its own minerals, but is associated with galena; cadmium contained mainly in the sphalerite; indium, thallium and gallium contained in sphalerite and galena; selenium and tellurium are present as impurities in the sulfide, tellurium is also found in the form of its own minerals. Of note harmful impurities antimony, which is often associated with lead sulphosalts and arsenic, having a substantially own minerals. By quality (content of lead, or the total content of lead and zinc) lead-zinc ores are divided into rich, ordinary and poor; by oxidation - to sulfide (with a lead oxides content less than 15% and zinc oxide content less than 10%), mixed and oxidized (50% oxide); the latter have a subordinate importance as a source of zinc and lead. Traditionally, the most contrasting technological properties of sulfide ores of nonferrous metals considered flotation properties, which determines the priority in the selection of flotation technology of their enrichment. Other methods of enrichment - gravity (jigging and enrichment in heavy suspensions), radiometric sorting (separation) are used as preliminary operations whose main purpose is to increase the content of lead and zinc in the ore sent to flotation, as well as the removing of part of empty rock in dumping tails prior to flotation. Effective implementation of these methods is possible at large size emphasizing in the ore of lead and zinc minerals, which is typical of the rich ores and which so far mainly worked. At the same time, non-ferrous metal ores (polymetallic, lead-zinc, copper-zinc, etc.) have a sufficiently high contrast to gravitational properties since ore minerals have a higher density compared with a rock minerals. But the gravity of the practice of non-ferrous ores enrichment is not widely used, despite its high degree of environmental safety and lower cost expensive."

In the present work, we report a novel microstructure of synthesized scalenohedral PCC (precipitated calcium carbonate) without any additives by a simple and ecofriendly carbonation process carried out in a liquid-gas system on the crystal growth of the scalenohedral calcite phase. Especially, the process parameters of Ca(OH)2 concentration and CO2 flow rates were investigated to enhance the sensitivity of the process. The highest average length of the scalenohedral calcite was obtained at pH 6.0, temperature 450C, Ca(OH)2 concentration 0.2M, CO2 flow rate 80mL/min, and total volume 1L. The utilization of flue gas-derived CO2 from coal fired power plants could be a form of carbon capture and storage using carbonation reaction with scalenohedral PCC. Finally, the synthesized scalenohedral PCC was used as a filer for ONP recycling. We demonstrated all these experiemnts at semi pilot plant scale.

"Acid leaching in agitated tanks is central to hydrometallurgical processing for valuable metals’ (e.g., copper, gold, nickel and cobalt) recovery from low grade (e.g., < 2 wt.%) ores. In this study, atmospheric leaching behaviour of Australian saprolitic nickel (Ni) laterite ore using sulfuric acid was investigated under isothermal, batch conditions at pH 1. The effect of primary process variables comprising time (4 h) and temperature (70 and 95 oC) on the leaching mechanisms and kinetics was established for -2 mm, low grade (~1 % Ni) saprolitic ore dispersions at 40 wt.% solid loading. Leaching proceeded incongruently, reflecting the proliferation of gangue minerals’ constituent elements (e.g., Mg, Al, Fe) alongside Ni and Co in the pregnant leach solutions (PLS). Subsequent analysis showed that 89% Ni and 78% Co were extracted after 4 h at 95 oC whilst at 70 oC the recoveries of these metals were markedly low (< 25 %). Overall, 177 and 644 kg H2SO4 /t dry ore were consumed at 70 and 95 oC, respectively. Activation energy of 79.0 ±1.0 kJ/mol was estimated for the mechanism of Ni and Co leaching and associated kinetics. Particles size analyses indicated that when the breakage of frail laterite particles due to shear is taken into consideration, differences in feed and leached product particle size distributions were insignificant , despite a remarkable increase in BET specific surface area of the product. Mineralogical analyses of the feed ore and leached solid products revealed a sub-crystalline silica phase enrichment of the latter. The overall results suggest that the mechanism of acid leaching of saprolitic Ni laterite may be described by a chemical reaction-controlled, shrinking core model."

"Grinding has a significant economic impact on ore dressing/processing, therefore the sizing of mills has an outstanding role.In most cases, the sizing of dry or wet mills for ore processing is primarily based on the determination of the Bond grindability index, using the Bond-Kjos-Rowland relations. In several cases, grinding takes place under conditions different from these and the grinding conditions have a great influence on the post-grinding process. This is particularly true for the grinding of bauxites where grinding takes place in alkali, often in higher temperature (up to 100 ºC) in alkali Liquor. So it is necessary to develop a testing method providing a reliable grindability index even under these special circumstances (grinding in alkalis medium at different temperatures) and allowing a more precise mill sizing. The new heated mill is suitable to determine the grindability index under temperature-controlled circumstances, in liquids with different temperatures (water, alkali). This paper presents in detail the equipment, the conditions (parameters) of the testing process for wet and alkaline grinding, the measuring results and the conclusions."

"This scientific work presents the results of comparative tests of centrifugal concentrators with a vertical and horizontal axis of rotor spinning. The article also describes a qualitative analysis of the behavior of mineral particles in a centrifugal field with fluidization for concentrators with a horizontal axis. The analysis was aimed at studying the effect of the quantity of fluidization holes in the basket on the degree of magnetite recovery and the effect of the basket rotation speed. The experiment demonstrated that concentrators with a horizontal axis are not inferior in terms of the qualitative recovery indicators to concentrators with a vertical axis. The researches also provided facts about the wide practical application of concentrators with a horizontal rotor arrangement. INTRODUCTION Methods of gravity concentration, attractive for their ecological purity, see their revival. First of all, this is due to the invention of centrifugal concentrators with the fluidization of the layer of mineral particles. The creation of a new generation of gravitational centrifugal concentrators made it possible to achieve a tangible breakthrough toward the direction of reducing the grain size of mineral particles effectively divided by density, up to 10 µm at a high production capacity of the vessels reaching 500-600 tons per hour. Such separators enable dressing a crushed ore of flotation grade and in some cases replace the flotation process, especially in primary operations, in joint cycles. In the long term, this method of concentration should significantly expand the scope of application, replace partial flotation processing, ensure the introduction of environmentally friendly energy-saving technologies at ore-processing plants. Summarizing the international experience for the last 30 years, it can be confidently asserted that centrifugal methods of concentration have become widely used in processing schemes for the separation of finely dispersed products in the mining industry. An interest in the creation of installations using centrifugal acceleration for the separation of mineral particles by density has particularly grown. Dozens of centrifugal concentrator designs have been created and continue to be improved. Centrifugal concentrators have a number of obvious advantages, which are especially relevant today. Losses of fine gold during the process of mining are well known. Gold washers screw, spiral separators, jigging machines and sluices traditionally used in the production processes do not solve the problem of fine gold recovery. Table 1 shows the results of comparative tests of a centrifugal concentrator (ITOMAK) and other concentration equipment. According to the research conducted by the company GMRS, Krugersdorp, South Africa (2000), the initial material was gold ore crushed to 150 micrometers (90%)."

The importance of bio-products production is enhanced with the abundance and renewability of ligno- cellulosic biomass in comparison to the depleting fossil fuels especially in producing environment friendly energy. Lignin is obtained as a sludge residue from the pulp and paper industries as well as from the bio- ethanol /bio-gas production plants. Lignin is a renewable fuel with a high heating value equivalent to anthracite coal, low ash content and hydrophobic properties. The extracted lignin in paper and pulp mills is usually burnt at the mill directly to cover the energy production costs of the mill. The efficient utilization of lignin can reduce the percentage of lignin sludge used for energy production in comparison to the present situation. Presently the lignin is burnt /incinerated as sludge with minimum of 30 to 50 % moisture content. This high moisture content reduces the energy efficiency and simultaneously utilizes more amount of lignin sludge in producing the required energy. This paper explains a possibility of integrating sludge-pelleting techniques in paper and pulp mills. The integrated sludge-pelleting techniques would lead to an optimal utilization of lignin for energy and would simultaneously save the lignin resource for material utilization. The sludge pelleting process solves also the problem of handling, storage and explosion risks of lignin when compared to the present situation.

"The theoretical technique of computational modeling and the experimental determination of the enthalpy of adsorption of a ligand molecule onto a mineral surface deliver the same output parameters and, therefore, complement each other in investigating the affinity of different ligand types for mineral surfaces.This study ran parallel experimental tests and computational calculations to determine the enthalpy of adsorption of a series of increasing chain length xanthates onto a pyrite surface. The outcomes showed that, while the absolute energy values were different, the trends were similar. Both computational and experimental approaches showed that the extent of the interaction of the xanthate molecule increases with increasing carbon chain length. The computational values were larger than the experimental values, which could be explained, in part, by the addition of water to the computational system, which resulted in a decrease in the heat of adsorption on the (100) surface, compared to the adsorption of the collector in a vacuum. The computational method showed that, in the case of the pyrite (100) surface, the most exothermic reaction was obtained when the two xanthate sulfur atoms bridged two pyrite 5-coordinated iron atoms. The (111) surface was found to be more reactive and different adsorption mechanisms were predicted for each of the C2, C3, C4 and C5 chain length xanthates.The experimentally determined exothermic increase in heat of adsorption for the addition of each CH2 group was found to be -8.17 kJ/mol. The contribution of the thiol head group was -34.9 kJ/mol. Previous studies on self-assembled monolayers have shown that these values are compatible with lateral interactions between CH2 groups and the exclusion of water. This study provides a rigorous experimental and computational approach which is intended to afford confidence in modelled data for the screening of new ligands for flotation processes.INTRODUCTIONComputational modelling is a fast and cost-effective method of screening collector molecules for the efficacy of their adsorption onto mineral surfaces. However, it is desirable to measure the computational outputs against experimental outputs to check for congruency. Computational modelling and experimental microcalorimetry both deliver the same output parameter: the energy of adsorption of the molecule onto the solid surface. These techniques are therefore ideally suited to complement one another in investigating the affinity of the interaction between collector molecules and mineral surfaces."

This paper discussed a combined froth flotation and high pressure leaching (HPL) process to recover copper from mine tailings. At first, froth flotation were carried out using the mine tailings sample under various conditions in the presence of different pH (3.5-10) and sulfurizing reagent value (0-1000 g/t), respectively. As a result, optimum condition (sulfurizing reagent of 1000 g/t, pH of 10, PAX (collector) of 100 g/t and MIBC (frother) of 200 g/t) was found for froth flotation of copper. The effects of sulphuric acid concentration, leaching temperature, total pressure (steam pressure plus oxygen pressure) on high pressure leaching (HPL) of mine tailing were investigated using sulphuric acid solution in the presence of oxygen. The best conditions for HPL were obtained to be sulphuric acid concentration: 0 mol/L (water), leaching temperature: 170 ?, total pressure: 2 MPa, leaching time: 1 hr and pulp density: 100 g/L. The leaching rate of copper reached nearly 99 % and the concentration of copper in pregnant leach solution (PLS) was 0.24 g/L. Finally, copper in the mine tailing was recovered using froth flotation followed by HPL. As a result of a combined froth flotation and HPL, the vast majority of copper (99 %) from the mine tailings was extracted.

Mineral selective flash roasting (Steiner process) in oxidizing atmosphere was tested successfully for the efficient low intensity magnetic separation of siderite from ankerite and other gangue minerals within the ore of the Steirische Erzberg, Austria. The calcium, magnesium and manganese containing siderite turns selectively into a ferromagnetic oxide phase while ankerite remains paramagnetic. The expulsion of CO2 increases the volume specific surface depending on the selected temperature. Unlike pure iron oxides absorbing SO2 below 530°C, the calcined siderite (enriched in the magnetic product of the Steiner process) acts as a sorbent for SO2 between 500 and 820°C. The effect was studied by thermogravimetric analysis and particle bed tests complemented with neutron thermo diffractometry (D20/ ILL). The energy input was simulated with the help of a tube furnace. The composition of the artificial combustion gas permeating the bed was close to that measured in pilot scale tests (6 % CO2, 12 % O2, 700 vpm SO2). The evaluation of data relating the SO2 variation in the off gas monitored by electrochemical cells to the actual phase composition revealed an intermediate ferrite phase as absorber. During the rapid decomposition in oxidizing atmosphere starting at 500°C the occurring siderite alters to a (CaO, MgO, MnO)Fe2O3 ferrite as an intermediate phase accompanied with sudden SO2 absorption. SO2 disintegrates the ferrite structure forming MgSO4 and MnSO4, taking Fe2O3 as a catalyst. Ankerite (enriched in the non magnetics of the Steiner process) starts to absorb at temperatures above 1000°C forming gypsum. The findings support the SO2 controlled operation of the Steiner process by ?autodesulfurisation?. It explains aspects of the SO2 implementation reactions within off gas recycling in Austrian sinterstrands. This contribution deals with bubble adhesion on particle surface which consists of three steps ? the liquid film thinning, the film rupture and expansion of the three phase contact (TPC). Our attention is devoted to the third step ? to the description of the TPC expansion. Three-phase contact line expansion can be theoretically described using hydrodynamic and molecular-kinetic models. Both of these models were originally developed for the interaction of the bubble with horizontal plane in pure water. Our experiments deal mainly with the interaction of the bubble with the inclined plane in the solution of surface active agents. It was proved experimentally that molecular-kinetic model corresponds also to these conditions and this model was used for the description of the TPC expansion. The model is based on the theoretical description of the bubble contact angle on the three-phase interface. These contact angles change dramatically from 180o to equilibium (Young) contact angle close to 90o. Modificated ADSA method is used for the calculation of the contact angle. This method utilizes the Laplace equation of the capillarity; the bubble profile and the contact angle are evaluated using the set of experimental points around the edge of the bubble. The comparison of the experimental and calculated bubble profile shows a good agreement. The aim of the project is to describe the process of the TPC expansion during the adhesion of the bubble with the diameter up to 1 mm. Inclined planes were used instead of an experimental solid particle. Our experiments were provided in the solution of surface active compounds. The process of the adhesion was recorded using high-speed digital camera and images were evaluated using the image analysis software NIS-Elements.
