The paper outlines the main objectives of the project that concern the evaluation of the possibility of uranium production from indigenous resources since Poland enters the nuclear program. The best available technologies are considered for uranium extraction and obtaining the yellow cake - U3O8. Liquid-liquid extraction with novel extracting agents, as well as membrane processes for separation of by-products will be tested in course of the project. The technological part will be completed with techno-economical analysis. In a cool mine, tapping high-pressure lines through reducing valves lowers the temperature beyond remedy. It is the writer's suggestion that, for low-pressure work, law-pressure air ,should be generated in a compressor installed underground adjacent to the work, and that the jacket-water of the compressor should be utilised for re-heating purposes. Such a system of compressed air distribution, designed especially for service in cool mines, is described in the following notes. The suggested system includes a three-wire pole line from the sub-station to the opening nearest to the working face, with a cable connection extending to the latter from the openings; an electrical centrifugal unit; a reservoir excavated in the ground; and a distribution line, re-heated by jacket-water. As regards the reservoir, it may be pointed out that in many mines there are blind or abandoned tunnels that could be used for the purpose. The centrifugal type of compressed air machine is a comparatively new departure, and it was formerly considered that such a machine, operating at less than 1,000 kilowatts per unit, would be commercially impracticable. At the present time, however, these machines are being built in Europe for as little as 400 kilowatts per unit, and as much as 110 lb. per sq. inch pressure. One advantage which these centrifugal machines have over other types is that they may be driven by plain induction motors, without the help of special starters-a consideration of the first importance where the electrical regulations are severe.

JW Aluminum use lean and Six Sigma techniques to continuously improve their target of reliable, repeatable and reproducible (3R) manufacturing. Six Sigma’s second stage gate, known as "Measure" involves identification and qualifying appropriate measuring systems. Metal quality (inclusions) are known in the industry to be an important element in 3R casting. The measurement of inclusions at JW Aluminum historically depended on outside vendors. In order to establish real time inclusion measurement ability within JW Aluminum, inclusion measurement systems in the marketplace were investigated. The qualification of a MetalVision MV20/20 ultrasonic inclusion analyzer are discussed as well as the subsequent application of the system in melting and casting improvement projects.

The Problem The Don deposit is a series of two sub-vertical zones that pose a number of challenges with respect to modeling and interpolation. The first challenge is that, based on data and observations, the mineralization and, more importantly, the grade is layered or banded and is stratigraphically controlled. The second challenge is that, due to the undulations of the deposit and extreme changes in dip, using a standard oriented ellipse to guide the estimation process is not appropriate and does not result in an estimate that is representative on a local scale. In order to solve this problem an adapted methodology of relative elevation modelling, has been devised to effectively model and estimate deposits faced with these challenges. Many metalliferous ?provinces are co-extensive with particular groups of sedimentary, volcanic, or :basic plutonic rocks. Deposits may be truly syngenetic (Rand, Rhodesia-Katanga, Mans-field, Blind River, White Pine); re-. concentrated by circulating waters (Colorado Plateau, Red Bed Coppers) ; or re-concentrated thermally during metamorphism and granitization (most uranium and lead-zinc provinces ?and some copper and gold provinces). Basalts may yield important cop-per provinces when folded and re-heated. Granitization of basalts which have not reached the chlorite-carbon-ate phase of metamorphism may produce copper provinces. If they reach ?the chlorite-carbonate stage, granitization may result in a gold province. Copper and copper-nickel provinces may result if gabbros are granitized, and a ?similar alteration of per-idotite may result in asbestos or nickel ores. Many similar associations are known. Granite is not a source of ore, but a result of heat. A classification of ?ore with respect to source rocks is of greater prospecting value than are classifications based on magmatic differentiation and hydrother-mal solution theories. Volcanic centres are important ore foci because the thermally unstable metallic sulphides may be concentrated here by a distillation process. The ores found in the hot spring deposits, viz., mercury, mercury sulphide, sulphur, and the compounds of ?antimony and arsenic, are not those which are soluble in water at low temperature (epithermal sub-division of hydrothermal class), abrut those which are unstable thermally at comparatively low temperatures . Water is one of the most common thermally unstable minerals, and generally accompanies the thermally activated ore-forming sulphides.

"The High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) plant of Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation (THPAL), located in Taganito, Philippines, with a nameplate capacity of 30,000 Ni-t/year started commercial operation on October 2013. The plant load was smoothly ramped up and it achieved monthly production equivalent to 33,000 Ni-t/year in 2016. Partial improvement of the plant capacity for the achievement of 36,000 Ni-t/year, as evaluated from the current operation progress of each system is planned for 2017. In this paper, aside from presenting the progress of the plant ramp-up, research and development activities such as the reduction of nickel loss and the improvement of filtration capacity which was achieved by particle size control of ZnS precipitates in the Zinc Removal system are also discussed.INTRODUCTION Taganito HPAL Plant Project History of THPAL Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation (THPAL) was incorporated in August 2008, as a joint venture of three (3) companies, namely Mitsui Corporation with 15% share, Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC) with 10% share and Sumitomo Metal Mining Corporation (SMM) with a controlling stake of 75%. Aside from its capital share, NAC’s Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) supplies the ore for the HPAL plant located in Taganito, Claver, Mindanao, Philippines. The objective of THPAL is to produce 30,000 MT of nickel and 2,600 MT of cobalt as mixed (Ni/Co) sulfide by treating nickel laterite ore in the Philippines and exporting to Japan as raw material for SMM’s Niihama Nickel Refinery (NNR) for the next 30 years. In other words, 1.15 wt% of nickel in ore is refined to 99.99 wt% nickel in electrolytic nickel. The mixed (Ni/Co) sulfide is shipped to NNR and SMM provides the technology and management personnel to THPAL plant as well as sulfuric acid which is the main reagent for HPAL process. Figure 1 shows the location of THPAL and current relationship between the stake holders.The Characteristics of THPAL Plant In terms of plant design, a 2-train system is applied for the HPAL circuit considering the reliability of the process, facility and avoidance of whole plant shutdown due to HPAL troubles. The technical data, operation know-how and improvements gained from the successful operation of Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) which was established in April 2002 were reflected in THPAL’s plant design. As for the H2S plant, a more economical design was considered which is different from CBNC."

Several thousand parts per billion of uranium are present in some alkaline lake and ground waters of the Okanagan region, British Columbia. To a major extent the uranium content of these highly anomalous waters is controlled by their levels of dissolved bicarbonate. In lakes, dissolved bicarbonate and the organic content of the sediment largely control the partitioning of uranium between sediment and water. This relationship is found to a lesser extent in alkaline creeks, and transported geochemical anomalies in soils appear where uranium-bearing alkaline ground waters have encountered organic materials. There is a possibility that young, near-surface deposits (with very low radioactivity) are forming from these uraniferous waters.

THE SULLIVAN MINE The Sullivan mine of the Consolidated Mining and ? Smelting Company of Canada, Limited, is situated at Kimberley, B.C., nineteen miles from Cranbrook, a divisional point on the Crowsnest Pass branch of the Canadian Pacific railway. Production started on a small scale in 1900, and in 1914 the mine became the largest lead producer in Canada. In 1925 it was the largest single producer of lead and zinc in the world. Since operations commenced, 4,800,000 tons of ore have been produced from stopes and 170,000 tons from development. At the present time, ore is being mined at the rate of 1,100,000 tons per year, with a yield of about 200,000 lb. lead, 110,000 lb. zinc, and 4,000,000 oz. silver. The town of Kimberley is easily accessible by road as well as by rail. The altitude at Mark creek, a tributary of the St. Mary's river, is 3,700 feet. To th'e north of the creek, Sullivan hill rises to a height of 6,100 feet, and it is on the southern slope of this hill that the mine is located. Sullivan hill is in the Purcell range, which rises between the Rocky Mountain trench on the east and Kootenay lake on the west. It thus lies within what is commonly referred to as the East Kootenay district.

It is necessary to assess the physical and functional conditions of highway bridges at regular intervals to ensure they still meet their service requirements. Currently, this condition assessment is mainly performed through visual inspection, which has been identified with several limitations (e.g. the timeconsuming assessment process and heavy reliance on inspectors? personal experience). In order to overcome these limitations and enhance the current inspection practice, this paper presents a novel method for automated bridge condition assessment using a hybrid sensing system. Under the method, existing conditions of bridge components are first captured with a stream of point clouds and color images. Then, the bridge components and the defects inflicted on the components are detected utilizing their visual patterns. The detection results are mapped to the point cloud. This way, the 3D information of the components and defects can be retrieved. The bridge condition assessment can be made effectively through the 3D visualization of this information before carrying out any on-site detailed evaluations.

"THE YEAR 1959 appeared to be a good one in which to attempt a summary of progress in the location and study of sulphide deposits in Canada because a temporary surplus of metals caused prices to fall and many geologists who had been working like beavers were suddenly not so hard pressed. So it was •decided to arrange a Symposium. The response to the call for contributions was excellent and the result is the interesting collection of papers that follow.Activity in the search for massive sulphide deposits has never been as intense as in Canada since 1954. That was the year when the airborne electro-magnetometer first became generally available on a contract basis. These instruments work best on massive sulphide bodies, as do most of the ground electrical survey devices, so much of the new information relates to these. It was decided, therefore, to focus attention in the preparation of symposium papers on such masses. This served also to keep the survey within reasonable limits."

The Age-hardening Cu-Cr alloys are extensively used in integrated circuit lead frame, railway contact wire, resistance welding electrode and continuous casting mold copper plate, owing to having an excellent combination of high electrical or thermal conductivity and high strength. High temperature performance is very important during the service process. Effect of Magnesium and Zirconium on softening behavior of Cr-Cr alloy are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). During the softening process in the Cu-Cr alloy, the recrystallization process, grain growth and Cr precipitates coarsening are observed. The addition of Mg or Zr to the Cu-Cr alloy, the resistance to elevated temperature can be significantly improved, owing to being restrained the growth of the precipitates by segregating along precipitates surface. INTRODUCTION Age-hardening Cu-Cr system alloys can be widely uesed in many fileds such as electrodes for spot welding (Hatakeyama et al., 2008; Cheng, Shen & Yu, 2013; Zhou et al., 2016; Chbihi, Sauvage & Blavette, 2012), intergrated circuit lead frame (Hatakeyama et al., 2008; Cheng, Shen & Yu, 2013; Zhou et al., 2016; Liu et al., 2006; Pang et al., Xia et al., 2012; Wang et al., 2009; Huang et al., 2003; Cheng, Yu & Shen, 2014; Zhang et al., 2016; Li et al., 2007) and railway contact wire (Cheng, Shen & Yu, 2013; Zhou et al., 2016; Chbihi, Sauvage & Blavette, 2012; Liu et al., 2006; Pang et al., Xia et al., 2012; Wang et al., 2009; Huang et al., 2003), because it has high strength, good electrical and thermal conductivity. The precipitation behavior of binary or ternary Cu-Cr alloys had been investigated by many researchers (Chbihi, Sauvage & Blavette, 2012; Peng et al., 2017; Batra et al., 2002). In addition, to obtain additional mechanical properties without much deterioration in electrical conductivity, trace addition of alloying elements like Zr, Ag, rare metals (Y and Ce) and Mg are added into Cu-Cr alloy. The addition Mg to Cu-Cr alloy accelerated the process of precipitates nucleation and restrained the growth of the precipitates by segregating along precipitates surface during aging, which enhanced the stability of the deformation microstructure and improved the mechanical properties of the alloy (Zhao et al., 2018). Additional zirconium in Cu-Cr alloy enhances the strength by the decrease in inter-precipitate spacing of Cr precipitates and the formation of Cu5Zr phase (Chihiro, Ryoichi & Kazue, 2008). Owing to the decrease in inter-precipitation spacing of Cr precipitates and to the Ag-atom-drag effect on dislocation motion, the addition of Ag can increase in strength, stress relaxation resistance and without much deterioration in electrical conductivity (Chihiro, Ryoichi & Kazue, 2008). The enhance in strength and electrical conductivity of the Cu-Cr-Zr alloy by adding Ce and Y elements are attributed to removing oxygen and sulfur from as-cast alloy (Li et al., 2006). However, the effect of Mg or Zr element on microstructure and properties of Cu-Cr alloy during the softening process are not clear. Therefore, Microstructure evolution and properties of a Cu-Cr systems alloy were investigated in detail by OM and TEM. The Relationship between microstructure and properties of Cu-Cr systems alloy was also discussed.

As usually occurs in technological development, heap leaching knowledge has been built upon two parallel lanes, theory developed on fundamentals but relatively far from industrial applications, and operational know-how generated from empirical trial and error. As a contribution to close the gap between the above-mentioned lanes, the De Re Metallica process consulting group has been developing and applying fundamentalsbased modeling tools for industrial process design and process optimization of existing plants over the last ten years. As result, a library of models is now available with application to the whole production chain from blasting to electro winning. Quay Magnesium Limited (QMG) listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in late September 2004 having raised approximately A$30 million with the object of designing, constructing, commissioning and operating a 15,000 t/a magnesium alloy production facility in Nanjing, China, Site construction commenced in February 2005 with installation of all major components completed by the end of October 2005, Hot commissioning was simultaneously commenced with the final stages of installation, leading to the first stage of continuous ingot casting by mid November 2005, Since that time ramp-up to the name plate capacity has been undertaken, This presentation highlights some of the more significant technical and logistical hurdles that have had to be overcome in order to meet the high quality product specifications required by a range of QMG customers.

"Colombian nickel laterites have historically been processed by pyrometallurgy. However, due to the depletion in ore grades, alternative processes are required. Hydrometallurgical processes, such as pressure acid leaching, have been proposed as alternatives to extract nickel from deposits with suitable characteristics. Such a leaching process requires high concentrations of acid to achieve acceptable extractions, and is not selective. In this study, an alternative aqueous alkaline glycine system has been employed to evaluate the leaching behaviour of a Colombian nickel laterite which contains 1.15% Ni, 0.12% Co and 41.1% Fe. Additionally, the effect of the addition of chloride ions, the use of a reducing agent and the application of a pre-treatment to improve the extraction of nickel were evaluated. Extractions of 4.63% Ni, 42.16% Co and 0.33% Fe were obtained using a 1M solution of glycine at pH 9. In addition, an increase in nickel extraction from 4.63% to 25.68% was achieved by applying a pre-treatment to the sample. The results show that even though nickel dissolution was much slower than in acid leaching, it was selective over other metals such as iron, proving the proposed method to have potential as a process for the extraction of nickel from Colombian laterites.INTRODUCTION Before 2010, most of the industrial operations used pyrometallurgical processes for the extraction of nickel, mainly in saprolitic regions of deposits, with greater contents of the metal. Nevertheless, due to the gradual depletion of such deposits, different hydrometallurgical processes have been studied as alternatives to process those nickel laterites with low grade and those which present problems of refractoriness due to the presence of acid consuming materials (McDonald & Whittington, 2008; Oxley & Barcza, 2013; Wang et al., 2012). However, such leaching processes require high concentrations of acid to achieve acceptable extractions and they are not selective. Facing lateritic nickel ore deposits containing high levels of acid consuming materials, an alkaline leaching medium becomes an advantageous alternative over acidic media, due to the increase in selectivity and decreased corrosiveness and reagent consumption (Tanda, Eksteen, & Oraby, 2017). Unlike conventional acidic reagents used for metal recovery, alkaline reagents can selectively dissolve the desired metal, leaving in the solid residue other elements such as iron, magnesium and aluminum, which are problematic in subsequent stages of metals separation and recovery. Furthermore, there are no serious corrosion problems associated with alkaline leaching, even at higher reagent concentrations, or at elevated temperature and pressure (Ntumba Malenga, Mulaba-Bafubiandi, & Nheta, 2015)."

"The discovery of extensive uranium mineralization on the Pronto property in April 1953 initiated a program of staking, exploration, and development unparalleled in Canadian mining history. Within twelve months of the discovery hole, sufficient ore had been blocked out to merit a 55-million-dollar contract with Eldorado Mining & Refining Co. On October 15, 1955, two years and four months after discovery, Pronto went into production with a mill rated at 1,000 to 1,500 tons per day. The property is on the southern edge of the Algoma uranium district, 10 miles east of the town of Blind River and close to the Canadian Pacific Railway and Highway 17. Docking facilities for Great Lakes steamers are avail-able at Spragge, 4 miles to the east.The data and conclusions presented in this paper are based on field studies, drill hole information, and underground development. The ideas of ore genesis are those of the writer, and will undoubtedly be modified as more detailed studies and research are carried out. Because of security regulations, information pertaining to grade and tonnage will not be discussed.GeologyThe general geology of the Algoma basin has been outlined in a pre-ceding paper (Joubin and James). The description below is concerned essentially with the rocks most closely associated with the Pronto deposit. They may be grouped in three structural and lithological units: (1) the pre-Huronian basement, (2) the Mississagi formation, the lowest member of the Huronian sediments lying unconformably on the basement, and (3) a series of basic intrusives cutting (I) and (2). Most of the uranium mineralization occurs in a quartz-pebble conglomerate forming the basal member of the Mississagi quartzite."

"The effect of heat treatment on the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance of A206 aluminum alloy was studied using the breaking load test according to ASTM G139 standard. This method uses the residual strength measurement from tensile test specimens previously stressed axially while exposed to the 3.5% NaCl alternate immersion test according to ASTM G44 standard. The residual strength after exposure is used as a measure of SCC degradation. The performed heat treatments were conventional natural aging T4 and artificial over-aging T7 tempers in addition to artificial aging T6 temper added for purpose of comparison. These tests showed that A206-T4 has a good resistance to SCC at pre-loads up to 100 MPa while A206-T7 was prone to SCC for pre-loads of 0 and 50 MPa, and showed total loss of ductility for pre-load of 100 MPa. Both A206-T4 and A206-T7 pre-loaded at 150 MPa showed poor resistance to SCC. A206-T6 showed the worst susceptibility to SCC as it lost all mechanical resistance at the end of the alternate exposure to 3.5% NaCl solution, even without any applied pre-load. Metallographic analyses showed that the resistance of A206 alloy to SCC is mainly affected by the transition from pitting to intergranular corrosion attack. The initiation and the propagation of intergranular corrosion attack might be assisted by high stress concentrations in the pits, particularly for pre-loads higher than 100 MPa. The transition from pitting to intergranular corrosion can also be promoted by hydrogen evolution from growing pits, which supports crack propagation by hydrogen embrittlement.INTRODUCTIONA206 aluminum-copper casting alloy offers ones of the best mechanical properties among the aluminum foundry alloys. This alloy belongs to the 206 alloy family developed in 1970s as an alternative to the highly resistant and ductile but more expensive Ag containing 201 alloy (Tiryakioglu, 2009). A206 showed also good low cycle fatigue strength (Sigworth, 2002). These properties made A206 alloy a strong candidate for some vehicles lightweighting applications. In spite of its interesting properties cited above, A206 alloy was rarely used in critical applications due to its tendency for hot tearing and stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Studies of A206 hot tearing behavior showed that this tendency can be reduced by improving castability and by grain refinement (Sigworth, 2002). The optimisation of the casting design can also prevent the tendency toward hot tearing. The SCC of aluminum-copper alloys arises from their susceptibility to localised corrosion, especially in chloride containing media. The localised corrosion in Al-Cu alloys is caused mainly by their heterogeneous microstructure, where the presence of many phases leads to the formation of micro-galvanic coupling with the matrix. However, most of the studies aimed at investigate the SCC of Al-Cu alloys concerned the wrought ones, especially the AA2024 alloy tempered in the T3 (or derivative) condition and few studies concerned the 206 and cast alloys in general (Alexopoulos, 2009 and 2016; Campestrini, 2000; Vogt, 1998; Talamantes-Silva, 2008; Zhang, 2003). Jean et al. (Jean, 2009) studied the effect of heat treatment on SCC behavior of B206 alloy using alternate immersion technique and grain boundary attack method and did not find direct correlation between the two methods. Another study showed that aging of 206 alloy may make a casting susceptible to SCC (Sigworth, 2002). However, these studies did not provide detailed information about the mechanisms of SCC of 206 alloy, as well as the effect of the stress intensity. The present work investigates the effect heat treatments and the stress intensity on the morphology of the corrosion attack and the SCC behavior A206 aluminum alloy. This study uses the breaking load test according to ASTM G139. This test utilizes direct tensile specimens and was developed to give a more quantitative measure of the SCC performance of resistant aluminum"

One of the main concerns within the mining industry is to minimize the impact of tailing facilities to the environment and nearby communities. Since the implementation of the first thickened tailings disposal (TTD) methodology at Kidd Creek in 1964, the thickened tailing disposal has been growing alternative disposal technology to mitigate the environmental impacts. Technical investigations on the TTD technology have been studied in detail to counteract the increasing shortage of water resources. One of the benefits observed with TTD is its resistance to potential earthquakes, particularly in zones with high seismic activity (Los Andes). TTD technology optimizes the maximum possible density for the material and generates a negative internal pore pressure in the material due to the surface and sub-surface water evaporation. This internal pore pressure should be enough to resist the pores pressure to which tailings are subject due to an earthquake action. The objective of this study is to verify the Shrinking Limit (SL) of thickened tailings during initial deposition and in the long term and the ability of tailings deposited by TTD would resist liquefaction. Fresh tailings coming from a flotation process of a copper plant concentrator were used. The samples put under cyclical three-dimensional tests associated with maximum credible earthquake magnitude range of 7.0 8.0 to develop a curve for the safety factor v/s depth for dry densities related to the maximum density obtained at the SL. At a dry density of 1.65 t/m3 liquefaction did not occur at any depth. At 90 % of dry density of 1.51 t/m3, liquefaction did not occur at earthquake magnitudes of 7.0 or 7.5 nor at any depth but liquefaction occurred at magnitude 8.0 between 0 m and 14.5 m; below 14.5 m, liquefaction does not occur.

A relationship between gas dispersion parameters, namely gas rate (Jg), gas holdup (Eg), average bubble size (db) and bubble surface area flux (Sb), with the metallurgical performance (e.g., grade and recovery) has been established.. Results of eleven columns operating at five concentrators of Grupo Pefioles (Mexico), ranging between 1.52 to 3.35 min diameter and performing in the cleaning stages of lead and zinc circuits, are presented and discussed. The results showed that the effect of gas dispersion parameters was consistent and that both, Sb and Eg, correlate well with recovery particularly when the influence of feed pulp density is also considered.

Ombrotrophic Sphagnum peat bogs have a characteristic signature on both colour injrared film (750 nm to 3,000 nm response) and Daedalus injrared line-scanner images (thermal infrared 3 to 5 microns and 8 to 14 microns response). This remote sensing method was used to survey bogs in southeast Manitoba to delineate targets for surface exploration. Target bogs all have a surface growth of Sphagnum; underlying dead Sphagnum ranges from 1 to 6 m thick. Large Sphagnum reserves exist in the Caribou cluster of bogs, and in /979 a bog first identified by infrared sensing was brought into production.
