A series of production technologies are described for gold recovery from complex gold concentrate blended with copper concentrate treated in the SKS smelting process comprising: 1) Feed preparation and proportionate feeding of complex gold concentrate and copper concentrate; 2) SKS smelting gold recovery operation and process control technology developed based on reaction mechanism, process simulation and slag formation optimization study; 3) a dry-process quenching arsenic collection technology developed during de-bottlenecking severe restriction of SO3 in the off-gas on As collection system by suppressing and eliminating SO3 in off-gas as a result of optimizing SKS smelting process conditions and spraying caustic soda absorbent so as to reduce off-gas dew point temperature; 4) electrorefining of impure anodes; 5) technology for recovering such precious metals as Au, Ag, Pt, Pd, etc. from high-Sb copper anode slime produced as a result of gold recovery from complex gold concentrate by using SKS smelting process. INTRODUCTION Gold concentrate resources in China are mainly found in Shandong province, Henan province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, etc. Currently, recovery of gold is based on pre-oxidation (roasting) cyanide leaching process. This process produces a large amount of cyanide-containing wastewater, cyanide leaching residue and relatively high SO2-bearing flue gas during production, which can cause increasingly more serious environmental pollution issues. Besides, this process route suffers from a relatively low precious metals recovery (70–80%) found when treating refractory gold concentrate and carbon-bearing gold concentrate. These issues have severely restricted the development of the precious metals processing industry in China.

"Dialkyl dithiophosphinates are a unique class of collectors used in the flotation processing of Cu- Au, complex polymetallic, and precious metal ores. They are known to exhibit higher selectivity and flotation rates for Cu sulfides, galena, and precious metal values in the presence of other gangue sulfides, than the traditionally used collectors such as dialkyl dithiophosphates and xanthates. They also have an attractive HSE profile. Historically, for most reagents used in flotation, practical methods of chemical usage have preceded detailed scientific understanding of how they work; this applies also to dithiophosphinates. Recently, however, the research community has shown significant interest in this chemistry, and numerous studies have been conducted to understand the fundamentals of interactions of dithiophosphinates with several base metal sulfides and precious metals. A critical overview of fundamental studies, laboratory ore flotation, and plant practice of dithiophosphinates is given in this paper. The findings from these studies are rationalized by drawing on concepts and insights from coordination chemistry. A comparison between the interactions of dithiophosphinates and dithiophosphate analogues with various minerals and metals is also made throughout. We believe that such a critical analysis/overview will be invaluable in identifying gaps in knowledge regarding this important set of compounds, which in turn may provide a basis for the design of studies that can advance understanding of their flotation performance. INTRODUCTIONDialkyl dithiophosphinates are an important member of the class of thiophosphorus compounds that are widely used in flotation beneficiation of base metal sulfide and precious metals ores. Ore flotation studies and plant practice experience have demonstrated their unique properties compared to the traditionally used sulfide collectors such as dialkyl dithiophosphates (their closest analogues) and xanthates. The predominant dialkyl dithiophosphinate used in the industry today is sodium diisobutyl dithiophosphinate (a.k.a. DIBDTPi; AEROPHINE® 3418A1 introduced by American Cyanamid in the late 1970s; Figure 1). The widest application of AEROPHINE 3418A is found in complex polymetallic ores of Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag, Pb-Zn-Ag, and Cu-Zn where it has demonstrated improved recoveries (and flotation rates) of sulfide minerals of Cu, Pb and Ag and selectivity against sphalerite, iron sulfides, and penalty elements (Mingione, 1991). More recently, it has also been used as a collector in the processing of Cu, Cu-Ni, and Ni ores (Guitard et al., 2015) and Cu-Au ores (Dunne, 2005). In general, it is considered to possess the collecting power of xanthates together with the selectivity (against pyrite) of dithiophosphates (Hope et al., 2003a, 2003b), while requiring lower dosages than those reagents (Guitard et al., 2015). AEROPHINE® 3418A has also found an important place in several targeted formulations to improve flotation performance. Other benefits of this reagent include higher flotation rates, having a better HSE (health, safety and environmental) profile2 compared to xanthate, and exhibiting resistance to hydrolysis and oxidation (Guitard et al., 2015). Compared to diisobutyl dithiophosphate (DIBDTP), which is known to contribute significantly to frothing (often leading to over-frothing), AEROPHINE® 3418A is observed to be froth neutral (i.e. it does not alter the existing froth characteristics). As is the case for other flotation reagents, the design and application of AEROPHINE® 3418A has preceded understanding of its behavior at a fundamental level. Recently, there have been numerous fundamental and application studies designed to develop a better understanding of its interaction with sulfide minerals and precious metals. As part of Inco's $115 million Fluid Bed Roaster SO2 Abatement Project, a new weak acid treatment plant (WATP) was constructed to treat bleed solutions from the Copper Cliff Smelting Complex gas-cleaning circuits. The WATP produces an iron-arsenic co-precipitate, termed "basic ferric arsenate" (BFA), which requires disposal in an environmentally acceptable manner. Following analysis of many potential options, the short-listed disposal alternatives were: A) Co-disposal of the BFA?gypsum sludge with rock tailings, a portion of which would be used in mine backfill, with the remainder being sent to the tailings area, and B) Co-disposal of BFA?gypsum sludge with pyrrhotite tailings in the tailings area. Testwork showed that the addition of BFA?gypsum sludge to mine backfill samples increased the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of the backfill for most samples, especially those at lower binder content ratios. Extensive analysis was conducted on samples taken from the Copper Cliff tailings area, where BFA?gypsum sludge from Inco's Copper Refining Electrowinning Department has been co-deposited with pyrrhotite tailings since 1990. Pore water samples from these areas contained very low arsenic concentrations, indicating that the arsenic had remained stable in that environment. Ultimately, co-deposition with pyrrhotite tailings was chosen as the preferred option for the disposal of BFA?gypsum sludge from Inco's new WATP.

"Water is encountered at the majority of underground mines, both over their lifetime and during each stage of development and production. The dewatering system is one of the most important and costly components of an underground mining operation and it is often not well designed and analyzed. An effective design of a mine dewatering system will greatly reduce its energy cost as well as improve working conditions and reduce production costs. A computer-based system, called Qpump, has been developed to assist the underground operator to effectively design and/or assess over-all and local mine dewatering systems. The design features and principles used in the development of Qpump are introduced and an example which illustrates typical applications is presented.IntroductionTraditionally, dewatering operations have been given lower priority than many other operations in underground mining. Invariably water will be encountered during the sinking of the mine shaft, during development and subsequent production. The dewatering system thus becomes a very important component of an underground mine operation and, in fact, any mine manager will attest to the importance and necessity of an efficient mine dewatering system.The water problem is of varying importance at different mines. There are several factors that contribute to the water encountered. It is a function of the mining method and techniques utilized (backfill system, drilling and raising technology, dust control sprays, shaft water rings, etc.) and of prevailing conditions (ground water, rock structure and permeability). In some cases a mine may be so dry that little pumping is required while in others, the weight of water pumped may exceed by many times that of ore mined.The successful design and application of a mine dewatering system is dependent upon the operating conditions of each specific operation. There are no standard procedures and systems which can be used for all mining situations. However, an effective water system will greatly reduce the energy and production costs of a mine, improve working conditions and eliminate headaches because of flooded working places."

"Abstract-The 682.8 ± 1.6 Ma Tickle Point Group consists mainly of rhyolite flows and tuffs with- in the Avalon Zone of the Appalachian Orogen in Newfoundland. Stratabound massive sulfide mineralization, consisting of pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and galena, occurs at the Winter Hill prospect, where a lower pyritic, Cu-rich zone and an upper Zn-Pb-rich zone are hosted by a carbonate-calc-silicate lens. At the Frenchman Head prospect, stringers of pyrite, minor sphalerite, chalcopyrite and rare galena are hosted by felsic volcanic rocks of the Tickle Point Group .Base metal ratios, metal zonations and the overall stratigraphic framework suggest that these sulfide occurrences represent volcanogenic massive to semi-massive sulfide mineralization (stringer type at Frenchman Head). As such these prospects represent the only known VMS occurrences within the Avalon Zone of Newfoundland. Pb isotope data indicate that galena from the Winter Hill prospect is less radiogenic and older than galena from Dunnage Zone occurrences, and suggest that the Winter Hill mineralization formed in an environment tectonically distinct (exotic) from the Dunnage Zone."

Introduction This paper deals with the operations and plant of the Craigmont Corundum Project, formerly of Wartime Metals Corporation but now under the Mines Section of the Resources Development Branch of the Department of Reconstruction and Supply. Corundum is recovered by the re-treatment of an old tailing deposit at Craigmont, Ontario. Crude concentrates so produced are shipped to the plant of the American Abrasives Company, Inc., at Westfield, Mass., for final processing and distribution to the abrasive industry. The plant was recently described in a paper entitled Craigmont Corundum which was presented by the writer before the Chicago meeting of the A.I .M.E. in February, 1946. General The Project is located on? lots 4 and 5, concession XVIII, township of Raglan, Renfrew county, Ontario, near the village of Combermere, which is on Highway 62. The property is about 135 miles from Ottawa. The general area enjoys a pleasant climate with moderate summer temperatures, though the winters are rather severe, the mercury frequently falling to - 35 deg. F. The excellent boating, fishing, and hunting have made the district a favourite resort for tourists. Lumbering is the main industry. Some farming is carried on, but the soil is poor and much of the land is hilly and rocky. There are no other operating mines in the immediate vicinity, though several 'industrial minerals', including mica, feldspar, nepheline, beryl, socialite, and others have been produced in the area. The district is drained by the York and Madawaska rivers and is generously dotted with large and small lakes. The general elevation is about 1,000 feet above sea level, though numerous hills rising several hundred feet give a rolling appearance to the landscape.

Copper metal is produced in large or small tonnages in almost all countries of the world—handling raw materials in the form of either as-mined or milled ores, custom concentrates, or other custom materials including scrap and recycled copper. The scale of operations and type of technologies used around the world varies widely. There is a certain concentration of both mining and smelter-refinery production as a total of ten countries produce some 80% of world mined copper, while ten countries—mostly different ones— produce about 80% of smelted and refined copper. As a result, international copper trade is significant. The present paper takes the reader on a virtual tour of the copper plants throughout the world with a focus on smelter facilities. Operations and technology employed at each plant visited are discussed including a brief historical sketch. Future trends identified during the world tour are also discussed. The present authors considered sufficient time was required for a thorough study tour and settled on eighty days—the same as that for the celebrated fictional story of world circumnavigation in the 1870s. INTRODUCTION The celebrated French writer Jules Verne published his book “Around the world in 80 days” in English in1873 and it is the story of Phileas Fogg and his French valet Passepartout circumnavigating the world in 80 days in the fall of 1872 on a £20,000 wager (equivalent to over 2 million pounds today) from the exclusive Reform club in London. This is an interesting period for copper as it started trading on the London metals Exchange in 1876 and the start of global copper production chains started to take off at this time with the rapidly increasing electrification of the world. The production chain includes mining, mineral processing, smelting, refining and fabrication. Since 1880 annual world copper production has increased by over 150 times from 154,000 tonnes in 1880 (nominally considered as smelted copper—essentially the only route at the time to marketable copper) to over 23 million tonnes today (including total refined copper of 19 million tonnes of smelted copper including scrap and 4 million tonnes by solvent extraction-electrowinning), in tandem with increased electricity usage, along with significant transportation usage and for manufactured products (Figure 1).

"Most of the Paleozoic section of the Williston Basin is a thick accumulation of numerous carbonate to evaporite, shallowing upward, cyclic sequences. These sediments were deposited in broad epeiric seas, and the deposition of the evaporite facies marked the final stage of each cycle. Many of the sequences display a pervasive replacement dolomite in the uppermost portion of the carbonate units. This secondary dolomitization is, at least in part, an early diagenetic event, synchronous with evaporite deposition.The inception of evaporite precipitation resulted in the seepage of a dense, Mg-rich brine into the underlying sediment. The heavy brine moved down the gentle regional dip displacing the more normal marine interstitial pore fluid and dotomitized the primary calcitic sediments en route. The supply of Mg-ions decreased away from the source, and correspondingly, the degree of dolomitization decreased and larger crystals formed because of slower nucleation at fewer sites.The seepage refluxion of dolomitizing brines gave rise to the frequently observed textural variation of cryptocrys talline, impervious dolomite grading into a finely sucrosic, permeable dolomite down-dip. This diagenetic facies change provides the critical up-dip barrier for potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. The lateral pool boundaries are controlled by either structural relief or a similar diagenetic facies change. The reservoirs are capped by the tight evaporites.Hydrocarbon production is attained from diagenetic traps in the Mississippian Oungre Zone and the Ordovician Red River 'C' Zone . Reservoir creation and the pooling mechanism are the result of dolomitization by the seepage refluxion of dense, Mg-rich brines beneath restricted, hypersaline lagoons. When formulating an exploration/ exploitation program for these oil prone horizons, it is essential to understand the complete geological history in order to establish where the reservoirs will be found and to define the areal extent of each accumulation."

"A general review of the wear problems encountered in the mining industry is presented and current practice for wear protection systems is reviewed.A new concept in wear protection is described and compared to alternative systems. Utilization of conventional stud welding technology and abrasion-resistant wear studs is shown to be a useful supplement or substitution for conventional techniques. Operating life of many consumable components can be increased by up to four fold. The technique is highly portable for on-site field application or can be used in shop environments.Details of the wear protection model and metallurgical properties of the wear component are also reviewed. Laboratory wear test data are reported to supplement field test performance or to screen potential alloy compositions for application in specific environments.A Review of Wear Problems and Wear ProtectionThe emphasis on wear protection has increased in recent years because of the increasing impact of the potential savings in time, materials and energy. A 1974 German study concluded that attention to tribology, the study of friction and wear, could save approximately $3 billion, and a study in the U.S.A. at the same time put the figure at $100 billion of which $20 billion was for materials. A more recent American study put the energy component of the potential savings at $16.2 billion per year. A recent British study estimated the total potential savings in the U.K. as $1 billion per year, with the largest savings coming from lower maintenance and replacement costs ($500 million), lower breakdown costs ($250 million) and increased machinery life ($200 million). These three major contributions are all potentially accessible in the mining industry."

"Significant increases in mill liner life and plant availability can be achieved by following guidelines that have evolved from over twenty years of practical experience with autogenous grinding (A0) and semi-autogenous grinding (SA0) mills. A0 and SA0 mill liner functions, performance criteria, designs, wear-resistant materials and maintenance procedures are reviewed. Operating practices that can lead to accelerated wear and breakage are discussed.IntroductionEfforts to improve the performance of liners for autogenous grinding (AG) and semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mills began as soon as the modern, large-diameter versions of these comminution machines were first intalled in commercial plants twenty years ago . While concentrators with conventional circuits were typically running at 95010 or better mill availability, many of the new autogenous and semi-autogenous circuits were struggling to achieve 80% availability. Liner maintenance, which involves not only material and labour costs but also loss of production, was quickly identified as one of the major reasons for downtime.Today, liner designs and materials have evolved to the point where virtually maintenance-free liner life of two to three years is possible in autogenous mills and one year in the more severe operating conditions encountered in semi-autogenous mills. Of concern, however, is that hard-won lessons from the past sometimes seem to be forgotten or ignored during the design of new mills and the operation of existing mills. As liner suppliers, we are often confronted with performance problems that could have been avoided by applying well-publicized guidelines for liner design and materials selection.This paper provides an overview of AG and SAG mill liner functions, criteria for evaluating performance, designs, wear-resistant materials and maintenance procedures. Also, operating conditions that can lead to accelerated wear and liner breakage are discussed in detail."

The factors affecting the precipitation of arsenic-free alunite (KAl3(SO4)2(OH)6) were investigated in a series of laboratory experiments. Although the amount of alunite precipitated increased with increasing retention time, temperature, solution pH and the concentrations of Al(SO4)1.5 or K2SO4, the composition of the products remained nearly constant. The preferred conditions identified for the precipitation of arsenic-free alunite were then used to assess the behaviour As(III) and As(V) during alunite precipitation at 98°C. Increasing additions of As(III), as NaAsO2 or As2O3, resulted in a slight increase in the amount of precipitate formed at pH 2.80. However, X-ray diffraction analysis showed all the precipitates to be alunite, and <0.2% As(III) was detected in the products. In contrast, increasing additions of As(V), as KH2AsO4 or As2O5, resulted in significant increases in the amount of precipitate formed at pH 2.80 or 3.00. Furthermore, the arsenate (AsO43-) contents of the precipitates increased up to 15%, and the sulphate contents decreased, as the As(V) concentration of the synthesis solution increased from 0 to 9 g/L. X-ray diffraction analysis of the products detected only alunite, but there was a progressive expansion of the alunite cell with increasing arsenate content. The implication is that arsenate substitutes for sulphate in the alunite structure. Preliminary observations on the environmental stability of the arsenate-bearing alunite using the TCLP protocol gave solubilities <0.4 mg/L from a precipitate containing 8.5% AsO4 and 7.8 mg/L from a product containing 19.5% AsO4. Thus, it appears that alunites containing less than -10% AsO4 would be an acceptable vehicle for the disposal of arsenic from hydrometallurgical processing solutions.

A finite element analysis based investigation using DEFORM software was undertaken to model the extrusion of 15% alumina and 15% silicon carbide reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites. The study dealt with predicting the extrusion load as a function of ram displacement and initial billet temperature. The finite element simulation was also used to determine the maximum extrusion load, temperature distribution, maximum temperature, strain rate, velocity and stress distributions in the billet during the hot extrusion process. The constitutive equation used was of the type: Z = E exp(Q RT) = A{sinh(ao-)}" where Z is the Zener-Hollman parameter (temperature compensated strain rate), s is the strain rate, Q is the activation energy, R is the gas constant, T is the absolute temperature, a is the flow stress and A, a and n are constants. Based on the work of Davies et al and McQueen and Konopleva, the values of Q (KJ/mol), a (MPa-1), n and A for aluminum 6061 composites reinforced with 15% alumina and 15% silicon carbide used are 181, 0.024, 4.15 and 1.33x10&apos;2 and 233, 0.052, 2.60 and 1.26xl0&apos;4, respectively. Even though the individual parameters are quite different, it was found that the predicted maximum extrusion load, temperature distribution, maximum temperature, strain rate, velocity and stress distributions are quite similar and differ by no more than 1-2 percent between the two composites indicating that the deformation behavior is primarily controlled by the matrix material and is not a function of the type of reinforcing ceramic particulates.

Magmatic-hydrothermal deposits rich in magnetite and/or hematite form a broad group that includes monometallic Fe deposits and polymetallic (mainly Cu and Au) deposits. They show a considerable variation in deposit characteristics, but share the genetic processes of magmatic differentiation and related hydrothermal activity in intermediate to felsic melts, and in some cases involve brines and/or meteoric waters during mineralization. They include several world-class deposits. They range in age from Proterozoic to Recent, and form important metallogenic districts in Scandinavian, Canadian, Brazilian and Australian Shields, Circum-Pacific regions, and in China, Iran and Turkey. Monometallic deposits have been important sources of iron in the past and still contain significant resources of the metal, e.g., the Kiirunavaara deposit in Sweden. The giant Olympic Dam Cu-Au-Ag-U-REE deposit was discovered in 1975, and since then explorationists have focussed on search for analogues worldwide. This has brought to light a number of economically important new deposits and prospects, including examples in Canada. The discoveries have in turn prompted considerable research on individual deposits and the group as a whole. This short paper is an attempt to summarize the main aspects of the group from the literature cited in Gandhi and Bell (1996), and from the papers published recently in two milestone volumes on these deposits, edited by Porter (2000 and 2002).

This paper explores the financial impact of the initial version of the Saskatchewan Potash Reserve Tax; first, a one; and second, in conjunction with the other taxes affecting the industry&apos;s profitability. A though the introduction of the Reserve Tax is shown to lead to a substantia increase in a hypothetical firm&apos;s effective tax burden, the more unusual outcomes frequently attributed to this levy on y occur after the imposition of other non-provincial tax rulings. Despite this qualification, the results obtained suggest that the Reserve Tax undoubted y acted as a catalyst in the polarization of attitudes during the ear y period of industry/government confrontation

"This paper traces the main advances in mine lighting from neolithic times to the 1960s. The earliest lights consisted of reeds or strips of wood soaked in grease. As man&apos;s knowledge increased, the oil lamp, the candle, kerosene, acetylene and finally electricity have allowed him to see where no natural light could penetrate. These advances in technology, however, did not come easily. Many false starts were made and great dedication was required by a few lighting pioneers to overcome the many technical difficulties that were encountered. The lighting of coal mines in particular caused unique problems, as there was the ever-present threat of methane explosions. Advances in mine lighting will continue, but these advances are only possible because men like Davy, Wolf, Marsuat and Edison paved the way.IntroductionMan&apos;s first efforts at mining consisted of merely picking rock off the surface of the earth. The sun was his only source of light. The early mines of the Neolithic age were simply vertical pits, 5 to 8 m deep. In order to follow an orebody, miners began to dig horizontally from the bottom of these pits, and as work progressed the need for additional light became apparent. With the discovery of the light-giving properties of fire, man was no longer dependent on natural light. Figure 1 gives an impression of the earliest artificial mine lighting used.Early Evidence of Mine LightingCarbonized residue from wood chips which had been inserted into rock cracks can be found in early Neolithic workings. The mines at Krzemionki Opatowski in Poland contain very narrow low tunnels that were lit in this fashion and were worked from 2300 to 1800 B. C. The wood had to burn downward to provide light and because wood burns poorly in this position, the chips were probably soaked in animal fat to make them burn more easily."

"The Mineral Research Centre of the Quebec Department of Energy and Resources has worked extensively on the development of a dry process to extract pure mica flakes from a phlogopite ore. The liberation of mica from the gangue is effected basically by impact crushing, and the ground ore is screened into several fractions, each having a fairly narrow range of grain size. Each sized fraction is then fed to an air separator where heavy grains are separated from light flaky grains. Heavy fractions are returned to hammer mills where gangue minerals are ground finer and blocky mica particles are exfoliated. A second stage of screening is performed and each fraction is sent to an air separator. This sequence is repeated until mica products are virtually free of gangue. These different fractions are then treated in a cage mill in which mica flakes undergo a more orderly exfoliation along cleavage planes. The ground mica is again submitted to a final screening stage, after which each fraction constitutes a final commercial product.This process permits the recovery of about 70% of the mica contained in the ore. The over-all process will be described along with technical details of each unit operation. Recent work on a wet grinding method to produce very fine mica will also be discussed.IntroductionRecords of production of mica in Quebec date back to 1886. Production has been more or less continuous since that time, with peak activity during the war years. Production was interrupted in 1966, but started again in 1972 when Marietta Resources and Laviolette Mining and Metallurgical Corporation started their joint operation in Canton Suzor, northwestern Quebec. Mica deposits of more or less importance exist in different parts of Quebec, of which three have attracted attention in recent years: the Canton Suzor deposit, the Canton Lamy deposit and the Canton Chasseur deposit. The Suzor orebody was first identified by Carl Faesler in 1936, who described the rock as ""brown biotite in flakes half an inch in diameter, with interstitial augite, apatite and feldspar""."

"Les mineralisation d'or des gîtes de la SOQUEM - Silver Stack dans is canton Bousquet se situent dans une bands de roches pyroclastiques asides du groupe de Blake River, d'âge archéen, dans le même horizon géologique que lee gites aurifères de Thompson Bousquet et Dumagarni situés plus a rest. La propriété a été explores anterieurement a maintes reprises depuis les années 1930, parfois jusqu'aux travaux souterrains, notamment par les groupes Mooshla, Warrenmac et Westwood Cadillac ainsi que par Silver Stack Mines.Ces zones auriferes se situent a l'intérieur de larges halos (jusqu'à 1,000 m x 400 in) de pyrite disséminée (2-5%) dans des tufs a lapilli et des agglomerate acides montrant des concentrations locales de pyrite. La zone 1, découverte en vérifiant par sondage une anomalie E.M., coincide avec une de ces concentrations de pyrite et la teneur en or est ici proportionnelle a la pyrite. Ce secteur se distingue par l'intensité de l'altération en séricite. La zone 2, qui s'étend sur près de 600 m, se situe dans un agglomérat acids, avec une faible teneur en pyrite, et montre de fines veinules de quartz-carbonate.Du point de vue géophysique, aucune methods ne donne des résultats probants: la polarisation provoquée montre de tree grandee anomalies correspondant aux halos de pyrite, tandis que lee concentrations de pyrite détectées par les méthodes E.M. (VLF ou EMH) sont loin d'être toutes aurifères. Les relevés magnétiques aident a établir la structure la où un certain contraste de susceptibilité magnétique est present. Les essais minéralurgiques préliminaires indiquent que la concentration de Bette mineralisation aurifère ne présentera pas de problems majeur."

"The molybdenum mining process used at Mongolia Erdenet Company is a selective flotation of molybdenite from the copper porphyry ores in which the extraction of molybdenum comes as a byproduct of the ongoing copper production.The mineralogical composition of molybdenum concentrate is 99.4% molybdenite (MoS2), 0.09% molybdenum oxide (MoO3), 0.52% powellite (CaMoO4) and wulfenite (PbMoO4) and content 47.76– 47.92% molybdenum, 1.5–2.67% copper, 0.04% renium.From compared solvents sodium and carbonate and ammonia are like extracted molybdenum than hydrochloric acid, which contained 96.23–97.72 p.c. of its total amount. Hence to take into consideration abundance, cheap and suitable for analysis and processing the molybdenum concentrate ammonia is choosing as a basic solvent. By direct evaporation of ammonia extract solution, we obtained ammonium ortomolybdate, which contains 73.47% MoO3. INTRODUCTIONMolybdenum occurs in the earth’s crust in an abundance of about 10–14%, mainly as molybdenite, MoS2. Small quantities are also associated with other metals having similar chemical properties. Thus wulfenite (PbMoO4) is found in oxidized parts of sulfidic lead deposits in many regions of the world; powellite [Ca(Mo,W)O4] is a calcium molybdate usually formed from the modification of molybdenite in deposits containing tungsten as scheelite (CaWO4) and tungsten substitutes for molybdenum up to about 10%. Ferrimolybdite (Fe2Mo3O12·8H2O) is the product of oxidation of molybdenite in the presence of iron (III) compounds. Molybdenite is the primary source of molybdenum. Should demand for molybdenum rise so that additional sources become necessary, wulfenite, powellite, and ferrimolybdite may become commercially significant. Molybdenum ore is mined by underground and open-pit methods. A typical primary molybdenum ore body contains 0.05–0.25% Mo, and secondary ore bodies (copper porphyry ores) average 0.3–1.6% Cu and 0.01–0.05% Mo. Flotation remains the preferred and almost exclusive method of upgrading the molybdenite mineral to an industrial-grade molybdenite concentrate containing 90–95% MoS2, the balance being gangue (Habashi, 1997)."

"The Flin Flon base metal mine, owned and operated by the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company, is on the Manitoba-Saskatchewan interprovincial boundary at a point 400 miles north of the International boundary. The deposit was discovered in 1914 by Thomas Creighton and the Mosher and Dion brothers. Since production commenced in 1930, 25,000,000 tons of ore have been mined. On January 1st, 1946, reserves were estimated to be 26,000,000 tons, averaging 2.99 per cent copper, 4.i4 per cent zinc, and 0.089 oz. gold and 1.25 oz. silver per ton. In addition to the four metals named, others recovered from the ore include- cadmium, selenium, and tellurium. The mine workings extend to the 3,750-foot level, but little development work has yet been carried on below 3,250 feet.The known ore occurs in six lenticular to irregular bodies within a zone 500 feet wide. These bodies average 900 feet long, 70 feet wide, 1,500 feet in vertical depth, and 2,500 feet in length along the plunge. They were formed by replacement of the country rock and include ore of two types, solid sulphides and disseminated sulphides. Seventy per cent of the total known ore is of the solid sulphide type. This consists essentially of metallic sulphides- chiefly pyrite- with included remnants of the host rock, and additional quartz and carbonate. In places, the ore exhibits banding, inherited from pre-existing structures. The disseminated ore occurs usually on the footwall side, and along the bottom of the plunge, of the solid sulphide bodies."
