"Cyclic heat stewed slag washing water carries high content of alkali and calcium and may cause serious tube scaling and impose an adverse impact on normal production. This study proposes a solution to utilize washing water by absorbing and mineralizing CO2, potentially restraining scaling and being able to create calcium carbonate powders. Effects of water flux on water quality, utilization ratio of CO2 and yield of calcium carbonate powder have been investigated; meanwhile, features of calcium carbonate powder are also represented. On the other hand, effects of factors such as as injection flux, pressure of CO2 on utilization ratio of CO2, morphology and purity of calcium carbonate are also investigated. The results show unambiguously that after soften injection of CO2, calcium ions were removed effectively via precipitation, alleviating the scaling problem. High purity yet fine carbonate powder could be achieved.IntroductionNowadays, 0.34 tons of blast furnace slags will be produced when producing 1 ton of pig iron; ensuing that, 0.12 tons of steel slag will be generated with 1 ton steel production while 1.57 billion tons of steel output all over the world in the year of 2012. It is therefore a critical issue to realize zero discharge of steel slags to achieve sustainable development and cyclic economy of iron and steel industry. In recent years, research institute of MCC and China JINGYE engineering company developed a heat stewed steel slag self-decomposition technology GENERATION III to solve the problem of instability of steel slags and realize the zero discharge. However, the problem of circulation line scaling which may cause the clogging, even exploding, need to be solved. The principles of the technology are: directly spraying water to the high temperature steel slag when it is poured into the hot closed pot, realizing the selfdecomposition via utilizing the waste heat of steel slag. The washing water is recycled to achieve a cyclic utilization. The process is shown in Figure 1."

The Nb-rich phase generated by the addition of trace amounts of Nb(<0.1wt%) \ and the effects of different content of Nb on the morphology and distribution of graphite in ductile iron were studied in this paper. The results showed that when the content of niobium less than 0.1wt%, the two-dimensional morphology of Nb-rich phase existed in microalloyed ductile iron were mainly regular pattern such as square, triangle, polygon etc. Besides, Nb-rich phase in large size distributed in the matrix with a certain distance from graphite. With the increasing amount of niobium, the dispersion degree of graphite diameter, average diameter and roundness increased slightly, and the number of graphite decreased slightly.

Ultrasonic stimulation of constituent suspension (metakaolinite/NaOH) can improve the rate of synthesizing reaction for zeolite Na-A. Zeolite Na-A can be synthesized from the suspension by sonicating treatment at comparatively shorter exposing time than conventional heating treatment. The main effect of ultrasound for the production of zeolite Na-A in the present heterogeneous solid/liquid reaction is intense stirring the solid and liquid substances to produce relatively narrow-sized zeolite Na-A particles with higher CEC value.

A simplified ED process was developed for organic acids recovery from cyclohexanone waste in this paper. In this regard, the one-stage ED was investigated directly without pretreatment, such as ion-exchange or nanofiltration to removal of foulants. The current efficiency and the energy consumption in the ED process for the recovery of carboxylic acids from cyclohexanone waste is theoretically analyzed and experimentally tested. The concentration of recovered carboxylic acid is related to many parameters and still needs more work to be determined.

A study on the electro kinetics of lead carbonate, silica, and alumina, in aqueous media was carried out at different pH values. The behavior of potential was determined for these species in the pH range between 3 and 12. Homocoagulation of lead carbonate in aqueous media is analyzed at its isoelectrical point. Lead carbonate heterocoagulation is analyzed with silica, alumina, and silica ? alumina mixtures at low pH values. The experimental results are considered for their possible application to treat residual water polluted with lead.

"During friction stir welding, the tool geometries affect the weld together with the process parameters like welding speed, vertical pressure and tool rotational speed. The present investigation deals with the three dimensional computational fluid dynamics modeling of friction stir welding process considering material flow around the tool, welding speed with respect to tool geometries. Friction stir welding tools with different tool geometries were used for the experiments to achieve acceptable aluminum welds. The temperatures near the welds for each tool were experimentally observed. A 3-D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was developed. Temperature-dependent material properties of the aluminum alloy were used in the CFD model. Thermal analysis was carried out considering rotational speed, vertical pressure and traverse speed for the tool geometries. The numerically predicted stirring patterns and temperature profiles closely matched with the experimental ones. IntroductionThe friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid state welding process where generally the metallic materials are joined by the combined action of frictional heating and weld zone stirring by a rotating tool [1]. The heat generated in the process is much below the requirement of melting the plates; hence the FSW process is devoid of harmful effects those are observed during arc welding. The FSW process utilizes a tool which has a shoulder and a protruding pin known as the probe. The shoulder is responsible for frictional heating while the pin probe facilitates stirring of the joint material. A schematic of FSW process is shown in Fig. 1."

"This work has for objective to identify the soil of the neighborhood Codin located in a lacking area of the urban nucleus of the district of Campos dos Goytacazes - RJ, after the identification the best line was determined for the production of soil-cement blocks. In this area it happens habitational deficit and precarious constructions are also verified. The use of soil cement blocks is considered a cheaper constructive method than the conventional (ceramic block or of concrete), because one of the components of the raw material is abundant (the soil) and the constructions can be erect with certain easiness for collective effort regime. Samples of soil of this area were collected for they be characterized with relationship to the physical and chemical characteristics, with I aid of GPS the community's location it was registered. Identified the soil type, the work began the study of lines they to make possible your use in an economical and safe way. The processing of post-consumer materials is an area being addressed by many industries and multiple engineering disciplines. While metal scrap and high-value uniform waste streams tend to find their way back to their respective parent processes, the more complex and low-cost ubiquitous materials, such as Polyvinalchloride (PVC) and Polytetrafluorethane (PTFE), tend to show up in many processing streams. From a metallurgical perspective, pyrometallurgical processing of a mixed metal/organic/oxide waste material allows for the recovery of thermal energy in conjunction with the recovery of metal values. The evolution of halogenic acids during elevated temperature processing can create complications with both the materials of construction of the processing equipment as well as gas stream processing. The need for dust collection coupled with a high acid content, necessitation high-volume scrubbing, increases the costs associated with gas handling. Control of the halides through entrapment as a solid in-situ during processing would simplify downstream processing. Alkali-halide complexes are being evaluated by researchers at CSM for mixed metal/polymer waste material treatment, recovering halogens as salt complexes.

Experimental rheology data are needed to produce design criteria for mass and energy transfer processes. Large throughput plants operate under continuous flow mode. The capital cost is determined by the accuracy of the rheology data used for design. The operating cost is dictated by the energy required to sustain the flowing conditions of various process slurries. Typically, rheology investigations are carried out during the final stages of metallurgical testwork, which is too late to set the design criteria for the pilot plant. This leads to increased testwork cost, and sometimes lowers confidence in the quality of the data produced. In addition, the engineering and feasibility studies are often delayed because of the lack of pertinent rheology data. One of the objectives of this paper is to emphasize the importance of timely planning and execution of the rheology study, which is shown to be a critical component of the overall testwork program. Various applications are discussed, including elaboration of process and equipment design criteria. In this paper, the emphasis is placed on gold and nickel laterite hydrometallurgy applications.

In the world, as well as in Republic of Serbia, conventional ore reserves are almost exhausted, so the problem of their shortage is more and more expressed. On the other side, there are many locations with significant reserves of polymetallic ores which present huge potential but cannot be classically processed. Each of these classes of materials has particular mineralogical characteristics which affect their processing. Because of that it is necessary to develop particular technology for each unconventional ore in order to extract valuable elements. The aim of investigation was to define technology for complex processing of the Blagojev Kamen sulfide concentrate by pyrometallurgical procedure in order to valorize valuable non-ferrous and precious metals present, and profit with absolute respect of environmental protection laws. The complex composition of the Blagojev Kamen sulfide concentrate with high content of non-ferrous (15.59% Pb, 9.05% Zn, 2.37% Cu) and precious (697 g/t Au and 744 g/t Ag) metals was the main factor for technological procedure and collector selection. Laboratory investigations are done in four series according to technological scheme: oxidizing roasting, charge preparation (flux addition and agglomeration), smelting under reducing conditions, lead bullion refining, Dore metal refining to final products. It is concluded that precious metals are concentrated in lead bullion (up to 97.95% of gold and 93.37% of silver), which has similar composition to lead bullion produced in lead metallurgy. In this case, simplified technology is used for lead bullion processing because of low content of arsenic, bismuth, etc.

Electronic components have precious metals like Au and Ag. These metals have a high performance in electric conductance. The recycling of the scrap, however is too difficult because of the presence of other metals like Fe, Al, Zn, Sn, ceramics and plastics, all together in electronic components. The aim of the present work was to define one way for physical separation to have metallic non-ferrous concentrates. It was used three kinds of scrap. I was used conventional equipment for mineral processing like hammer mill; screens, electrostatic and magnetic separation.

Although secondary aluminum industry is well established in the world, the recycling process still requires further development to adequately control the process for a higher aluminum yield and a better product quality. In the present paper, recyclabilities of different aluminum scraps have been experimentally studied. Four types of commercial scraps were characterized and melted at 800 - 900 °C to recover 'aluminum metal with the protection salt flux of NaCl-KCl-Na3AlF6 under nitrogen atmosphere. According to the results, the difficulty of recycling aluminum scrap depends on the cleanness and the ratio of surface area to body volume. More non-metallic contaminates and higher ratio of surface area to body volume usually led to a lower metal yield. Usually cast ingots gave better results than rolling mill cuttings under similar conditions. Bottle caps can be recycled more easily than the margarine foil. The effect of temperature was not as significant as the composition of salt flux. A growing concern for pyrometallurgical operations is the generation of airborne particulates. These particulates can be generated by combustion processes, or by materials handling. Regulation of these particles by the EPA has become progressively more stringent, first for particulates finer than 10 micrometers (PM10), which are particles fine enough to be inhaled into the lungs. Then, restrictions were introduced on emissions of particles finer than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5), which are fine enough to become embedded in lung tissues. The next stage of regulations is likely to be ?nanoparticulates,? particles finer than 100 nanometers, which are in a size range where their very high surface area leads to enhanced reactivity. While all of the health effects due to nanoparticulates have not yet been determined, there have been enough studies to indicate that there is a problem, and restrictions on nanoparticulate emissions are only a matter of time. In this paper, it will be demonstrated that dry handling, comminution, and combustion sources represent a significant concern for both PM and nanoparticulate emissions. In regards to dry handling, the effects of utilizing effective dust suppressants on PM and nanoparticulate emissions will be explored.

"In order to obtain basic data for the development of highly thermally conductive composite materials, the thermal conductivity of a resin composite material with an Aluminum Nitride filler was assessed. Several different measurement techniques such as the xenon flash and the temperature wave thermometric analysis method were employed to gather data on these composites. An excellent match between theoretical and experimental data was achieved by employing a predictive expression that takes into account the effect of percolation on thermal conductivity.IntroductionA thermal solution composite is made by incorporating dense inorganic fillers with high thermal conductivity into a resin. Because the composite materials have high thermal conductivities, they have been used in electrical products that generate excessive thermal energy during operation, such as inverters, amplifiers and motor drivers. They function as electrically insulating and thermally conducting parts of the electric modules. As the uses of thermal solutions are expanded, composites of higher thermal conductivities will be required. The aim of this work was to investigate, evaluate, and try to predict the influence of key parameters on thermal conductivity and diffusivity. This was achieved by analyzing the effect of both volume fraction and shape of Aluminum Nitride ceramic fillers and measuring the thermal conductivity. In addition, the influence of percolation on thermal conductivity is considered. The thermal conductivity of the composites is discussed by employing a predictive equation using literature data of thermal conductivities for both the filler and resin. As well as thermal conductivity measurements the effect of volume fraction of the filler was also explored.ExperimentalSpecimen PreparationThe composite samples were prepared from silicone resin and Aluminum Nitride (AlN) fillers. The AlN fillers with an average particle size of 20 µm are shown in Figure 1. The mean diameters of the AlN particles used are given in Table I. For comparison the AlN fillers with an average particle size of 5 µm are shown in Figure 2. A planetary centrifugal mixer was used for simultaneously dispersing the components uniformly and de-aerating the mixture. After mixing, these materials were placed in a silicone rubber case and cured at 150 °C for 1 hour."
