Thiol collector mixtures are commonly used in the flotation of base metal sulfides and platinum-bearing ores. There are synergistic benefits claimed for these collector mixtures, with mixtures lowering total dosage requirements, improving coarse particle recovery and the rate of flotation. Some of the secondary collectors are known to have frothing effects. Therefore, a previous study aimed to decouple froth and pulp effects and considered only the bubble-particle attachments in the pulp. This was achieved through microflotation experiments, where various ratios of the ethyl and isobutyl chain lengths of xanthates, dithiocarbamates and dithiophosphates were used as collectors. Results from these experiments showed a marked increase in galena recovery using mixtures of xanthate with either dithiophosphate or dithiocarbamate. In the current study, the froth phase was introduced in the form of batch flotation studies to determine whether benefits noted during microflotation experiments would be carried through to a more realistic froth flotation scenario. The findings show that there was no significant difference in the flotation recovery between the best single collectors and mixtures of these collectors. In addition, single collectors that behaved poorly in microflotation experiments showed good flotation performance in the batch flotation experiments. The differences between the microflotation results and the batch flotation results are attributed to differences in particle froth stabilizing properties and/or differences in energy input between the microflotation and batch flotation cells. A detailed study was undertaken to beneficiate sub-grade iron ore sample from Kenojhar District, Orissa, India containing 57% Fe (T), 7.7% SiO2, 4.8% Al2O3, 4 % L.O.I. 0.4% TiO2,1.3 % Mn and traces of S(T) to make it suitable for the user industry. The mineralogical study indicated that it predominantly consists of haematite with subordinate amounts of goethite and clay. Quartz, Cryptomelane / Psilomelane, Pyrolusite, Gibbsite, Feldspar and Muscovite mica were present in very minor to trace amounts. The Denver grind ability tests indicated, that the sample could be categorized as ?medium soft to medium.? The Bond ball mill work index was determined to be 14.19 kwh per short ton. The beneficiation process involved classification followed by tabling of the classified sand, ground to minus 48 mesh size. The table slimes were subjected to Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separator (WHIMS). The developed process yielded a composite concentrate from tabling and WHIMS operations assaying 65% Fe(T), 2% SiO2, 1.8% Al2O3, 2% Mn and 0.9% LOI with a recovery of 60.1% Fe (T), amounting to 52.5 wt.% yield. To meet the size specifications for pellet making, it was further ground. Dewatering studies were also carried out on the ground combined concentrate and rejects. The thickener area of ground combined concentrate using 0.02 kg/t of Sufloc A 1115 flocculant was 0.02 m2/tonne of dry solids per 24 h. And for the combined rejects using 0.12 kg/t of flocculant, it was 0.035 m2/tonne of dry solids per 24 h. The moisture content, in the pressure filtration cake, in the ground combined concentrate product was 10.0%, and productivity was 506.7 kg/m2h. Thus, by thickening and filtration of process products, 90% of water used in the process could be recovered. In this study, a montmorillonite organo-intercalation compound (MOIC) was synthesized by using a Na-modified bentonite (NaB) as a matrix and hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA) bromide as an intercalating reagent under microwave irradiation. The synthesized products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), organic carbon content measurement, and adsorption density determination. The results show that, at 10% suspension concentration and 10 minutes irradiation in a 130-W microwave oven, the basal spacing d(001) of the synthesized MOIC increases to 2.209 nm from the original 1.218 nm of NaB. The MOIC has much higher adsorptive densities to nitrobenzene and aniline from aqueous solution than the NaB. The adsorption isotherm of nitrobenzene on the MOIC is linear, and the adsorption is mainly the result of nitrobenzene?s preferred partition in MOIC over aqueous solution due to MOIC?s hydrophobicity. The adsorption isotherm of aniline on MOIC follows the Freundlich equation and the increased adsorption is not only the result of aniline?s preferred partition in MOIC over aqueous solution but also that of the MOIC?s surface adsorptions.

"Expert Online is a software system that makes use of novel artificial intelligence technology, known as the Interpreting Expert System (IES), to mimic an informed expert on a minerals processing plant. Previous implementations of the IES were only capable of explaining the controller actions. Expert Online will also take on the more difficult task of explaining the complex process behaviour to the operator in simple language.The primary functions of Expert Online are to serve as a training tool and an online assistant to operators. However, it is also expected to be of value to supervisors and plant managers.A number of additional features are envisaged, including different operating modes, fault detection, speech synthesis and advanced message filtering. Expert Online will increase the operator’s knowledge of the process and his/her understanding and acceptance of the complex control systems. Users would be supplied with relevant and timeous information required to make informed decisions to ensure smooth plant operation.This paper discusses the structural design of Expert Online for implementation on the latest version of MINTEK’s open control platform, PlantStar, as well as several advances and additions since the previous implementations of the Interpreting Expert System."

The process of gold(I) adsorption on activated carbon (AC) from aqueous Na[Au(CN)2] and the state of the adsorbed gold cyanide complex on the adsorbent surface was investigated by photometry, XPS, XANES methods. By DFT method, quantum-chemical calculations were performed of the gold cyanide species on activated carbon surface. It was established that the binding of gold(I) with the surface of carbon involved several simultaneous processes governing the selective adsorption of gold(I) from the cyanide solutions.

In order to investigate rheological behaviour of fine tailings backfill pastes, the fine iron ore tailings (size fraction of -0.074mm accounts for 70%) from Fuquan Mining Co., Ltd. of Sinosteel Corporation (Shandong, China) was investigated. The rheological parameters such as slump, viscosity and yield stress of the tailings pastes under different densities were measured in detail, and the effect of paste density on the rheological property and the relationships of different rheological parameters of the pastes were also discussed. According to the results, the rheological behaviour is in accordance with the pseudoplastic fluid in a wide range of paste densities (solid content, w/w) of 65% to 80% and the pastes turn to be Bingham fluids at higher shearing rates. Along with the increase of paste density, the slump drops gradually and the viscosity and shear stress increase gradually. However, the variation extent of the rheological parameters varies at different density ranges. According to the variation pattern of the rheological parameters at different paste densities, the flow ability of the pastes can be classified into three zones. The high fluidity zone was observed at the density range of 65%-69% where the rheological parameters vary slightly along with the paste density, the moderate fluidity zone was observed at the density range of 70%-76% where the rheological parameters vary significantly along with the paste density, and the low fluidity zone was observed at the density range of more than 76% where the rheological parameters vary sharply along with the paste density and the critical density for this sudden variation is about 76%. Furthermore, linear correlations of slump/viscosity and slump/yield stress were observed. It is possible to predict the viscosity and yield stress of the pastes based on the slump measurements.

"High alumina content in the Indian iron ore fines (2.5% Al2O3) resulted in poor quality pellets at the recently commissioned 6 MTPA pelletizing plant and a study was under taken to establish suitable pellet chemistry through proper fluxing agents. Limestone fluxed pellets were prepared at varying basicity (0 to 0.8) and pyroxenite fluxed pellets at varying MgO contents (0 to 3%) to study their effect on the metallurgical properties. Fired pellets were tested for their strength, RDI, reducibility and swelling. Microstructural studies, optical and SEM-EDS, were carried out to quantify different phases and their chemistry. Acid pellets exhibited poor quality whereas limestone pellets at 0.8 basicity and pyroxenite pellets at 1.5% MgO exhibited optimum metallurgical quality. Formation of widely distributed silicate melt in limestone pellets and high melting point slag & magnesioferrite in pyroxenite pellets found to improve their quality. However during commercial production of MgO bearing pyroxenite pellets, their room temperature and low temperature properties found to be inferior, but exhibited better high temperature properties, viz. softening-melting behavior. Contrary to this, commercially produced limestone pellets, comprising CaO, exhibited better strength and RDI but showed poor high temperature properties. To yield the benefits of both CaO (for good strength and RDI) and MgO (for low swelling and high softening), a dual flux combination was established by using both limestone and pyroxenite/olivine together that resulted in optimum metallurgical properties. Coke rate at the blast furnaces found to be reduced by 1kg for every1% increase of dual flux pellets in the burden.INTRODUCTION Iron ore agglomerate quality plays a vital role in decreasing the reducing agent consumption and increasing the productivity of blast furnace. In most of the integrated steel works, the burden mix for blast furnace is decided as per the availability of the iron ore agglomerates like sinter and pellets. More attention has been given in recent years to the use of fluxed pellets in blast furnace due to their good strength and improved reducibility, swelling and softening melting characteristics. Generally, quality of pellets is influenced by the nature of ore or concentrate, associated gangue, type and amount of fluxes added and their subsequent treatment to produce pellets. These factors in turn result in the variation of physicochemical properties of the coexisting phases and their distribution during pellet induration. Hence properties of the pellets are largely governed by the form and degree of bonding achieved between ore particles and the stability of these bonding phases during reduction of iron oxides (Panigraphy et al., 1990). It is important to note that conditions and parameters of pelletizing are specific to given ore or concentrate; the present study is undertaken for typical Indian hematite ore fines high in alumina. Except authors earlier work on quality of pellets from Indian iron ore (Dwarapudi et al., 2008, 2010), there is no considerable literature reported on the effect of pellet basicity and MgO content in the basicity range of 0 to 0.8 for Indian hematite ore."

Batch wise adsorption tests for platinum (Pt) on the surface of activated carbon pellets (Norit RO 0.8 BET surface area 1100 mg/g) were carried out in mixed chloride solution. The purpose of this study was to assess and compare the adsorption performance of amine-treated activated carbons (AACs) and native activated carbons (NACs) in terms of adsorption capacity and selectivity. The effect of pH and temperature on adsorption capacity and selectivity was established. The amine- treated ACs were prepared by anchoring the amino groups (butyl amines) on the surface of AC pellets in aqueous media and the UV-Vis was used to determine the amount of amine sequestered from solution by ACs. The dosage of butyl amine on the surface of ACs averaged 0.15 g/g, carbon. The adsorption mechanism was described by the ionization and complexation model whereby interaction between the protonated AAC surface and the anionic chlorocomplex ions (PtCl5 [H2O]-, PtCl62-) proceeded by either electrostatic attraction or/and by covalent bonding [(NH3)2PtCl6 or (CH2COO)2PtCl6]. By comparison, the adsorption capacities of Pt on amine-treated ACs and native ACs were 53.8 mg/g and 33.03 mg/g, respectively which highlight the benefits of anchoring functional molecules on ACs. The selectivity of AACs was influenced by solution pH. Pt adsorbed selectively on the surface of amine-treated ACs at pH<1.5. The highest separation factor that was recoded pertained to Pt and Fe species (ßPt/Fe = 90) then followed by Pt and Ni species (ßPt/Ni = 30) or Pt and Cu species (ßPt/Cu = 15). The lowest separation factor was recorded for Pt and Cr ions (ßPt/N= 5). Adsorption kinetics of Pt on amine-treated AC surfaces, according to the first and second order reactions, were investigated and results showed that rates were in the order 10= 5). -4 min-1 and 102 g?min/mg, respectively. The pseudo 1st order kinetics predicted the adsorption capacity of 51.81 mg/g which was almost similar to the experimental value (53.8 mg/g) while the second order rate equation predicted Pt adsorption capacity of 40.1 mg/g. Both The Langmuir and Toth isotherm fitted the Pt adsorption at pH < 1.0. The Freundlich isotherm tended to underestimate the adsorption capacity of AACs.

"Pressure leaching of chalcopyrite and nickeliferrous pyrrotite at temperatures between 105 and 200 ºC has been proposed as a potentially viable route for the extraction of mineral elements from sulphide concentrates. In general, these concentrates contain iron, and the economic success of the processes is partially dependent on the choice of the environmentally acceptable iron-removal technique. One of the most widely used methods for the removal of iron from sulphate liquors is precipitation as hematite, goethite, or jarosite. The nature of the iron precipitate formed dictates downstream dewatering and residue treatment and disposal options. However, a better understanding of iron precipitation under the defined process conditions would consequently be of benefit in process design and optimisation.This study investigated the precipitation of iron in the autoclave at temperatures between 105 and 200 ºC. The effects of temperature, acid concentration, iron concentration, and the presence of other metal cations on the nature and composition of the precipitates were determined."

"Wet stirred milling is one of the most effective grinding methods in producing very fine powders in large scale production, but it is a very energy-intensive process, especially when pigments or even nanosize particles are produced. Therefore, optimization of the process parameters is important. The specific energy consumption is a function of stress energy, which describes the effect of tip speed and media characteristics on grinding, and is related to the number of stress events during milling. In effective grinding, a large number of stress events are necessary. The stirrer configuration influences the number of stress events and their intensity, because the motion of the media and the suspension are caused by a rotating stirrer. The effect of three different stirrer types: a pin, disc and blade stirrer, on the grinding rate, i.e. product fineness and specific energy were investigated in this study with a batch laboratory stirred mill with two tip speeds. The material used in the experiments was calcium carbonate. The results obtained with the smaller tip speed showed approximately similar grinding rates and energy consumption for all stirrer types. When looking in closer detail, the blade stirrer seemed to give the finest product with all grinding times compared to the pin and disc stirrers, which both produced almost the same product fineness with the same grinding times. The specific energy consumption was the smallest with the disc stirrer, but not very big differences were obtained. With a higher tip speed, greater differences occurred both in grinding rates and specific energy consumption. The blade stirrer was the most effective in grinding, and the pin stirrer the next. The net energy consumption for the blade and pin stirrers was almost the same, but it was slightly higher for the disc stirrer."

Pyrite is present as a gangue mineral in most of complex sulphide ores and most of time it is removed as a tailing. However, beneficiation of pyrite from tailings could be important because of its economical value and for the environmental concern. This paper presents a research for the enrichment of pyrite from copper plant tailings, Siirt-Madenköy/Turkey, by flotation. Siirt-Madenköy copper mine is operated by Park Electric Production Mining and Industry since 2005. In order to obtain the pyrite from Siirt-Madenköy copper plant tailings, laboratory test work has to be done to determine the type of reagents, the flowsheet, and the size of plant. The objective of the company is to develop a pyrite flotation circuit for concentration of pyrite from tailing dam to obtain 500.000 tons/year pyrite concentrate. There are about 3 million tons tailings that containing pyrite in the tailings dam. Experiments were carried out with three different types of tailings from the plant and the pyrite concentrate with 46% Fe and 90% recovery has been obtained. Therefore, this study shows that high grade pyrite with high recovery can be recovered from the tailings.

"Vizcachitas is an advanced stage copper–molybdenum porphyry deposit, fully owned by Los Andes Copper and located in Central Chile. The property contains an indicated resource of 1,038 million tonnes grading 0.37% Cu and 0.012% Mo, and an inferred resource of 318 million tonnes grading 0.345% Cu and 0.013% Mo (Coffey & Alquimia, 2014). The deposit occurs in the same geological belt as several other giant copper-molybdenum porphyry deposits including Río Blanco-Los Bronces, Los Pelambres-Pachon and El Teniente. In 2018, the original Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) study from 2014 was updated; this paper presents the geometallurgical testwork that was performed to support that update. The testwork focused on the metallurgical characterization of 40 DDH samples and the development of a more profound orebody knowledge by relating geological features with metallurgical performance. The scope of work included complete chemical and mineralogical QemSCAN characterization; SAG, ball mill and abrasion testing; complete rougher and cleaner kinetics including locked-cycle-test; environmental ABA and settling tests on rougher tailings. The results show that the ore can be classified as medium-hard, with a hardness that is slightly below the average for large Cu/Mo deposits in the region. A good correlation was found between lithology and breakage characteristics, implying that the specific energy consumption (kWh/t) is well correlated to rock type. The results of the flotation tests were very encouraging and did not show significant variability. An overall Cu recovery of 91% can be expected for the flotation circuit. The use of a relatively coarse primary grind size gave good final recovery and grade for both Cu and Mo, and deserves further attention in future work, as this impacts positively both energy consumption and water recovery.INTRODUCTION Los Andes Copper Ltd. is a Canadian exploration and development company focused on the acquisition, exploration and development of advanced stage copper deposits in Latin America. "Arsenic removal from high arsenic gold concentrate is conducive to increase the mineral value and realize the mineral comprehensive utilization. This study investigated the alkaline pressure oxidation leaching (APOL) of an arsenical gold concentrate in lower temperature to separate the arsenic into filtrate. The effects of temperature, NaOH concentration, solid-liquid ratio, reaction pressure and stirring speed on the leaching efficiency were investigated, and the characteristics of the gold concentrate and leaching residues were evaluated using XRD and SEM analysis methods. The obtained results showed that by using lower temperature (<60?) it is possible to avoid the production of elemental sulfur during the leaching process, which is benefit for the oxidation of arsenopyrite; When the reaction was carried out under appropriate conditions, more than 98% of the arsenic will be extracted into the filtrate as the form of arsenate or thioarsenate. INTRODUCTION In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the recovery of gold from refractory arsenical gold ore. The arsenic in this kind of ore usually exists as the form of arsenopyrite, and the gold surrounded by arsenopyrite exists as the form of fine particles, which will give many difficulties to metallurgical work. When the content of arsenic in the gold ore is more than 0.5%, it will seriously penalize the smelting efficiency (Ruiz et al., 2014). So pretreatment of the refractory gold ore is necessary to obtain the largest economic value and environmental benefits (Balaz et al., 2000). The oxidation pretreatment processes mainly include roasting oxidation, pressure oxidation, chemical treatment and biological treatment (Ann et al., 1992; Kou and Chen, 2012; Tongamp et al., 2010; Fernandez et al., 1995; Lin and Zheng, 1996). Among them, the roasting oxidation and pressure oxidation are the more ordinary processes in industry. The roasting oxidation process is the mature and adaptable technology, but the production of waste gas containing sulfur and arsenic will pollute the environment. The pressure oxidation method possesses certain metallurgical and environmental advantages, and can efficiently decompose the mineral. According to the different solution media, the pretreatment can be divided into alkaline and acidic pressure leaching pretreatments (Papangelakis and Demopoulos, 1990; Hiskey and Sanchez, 1995). The acidic pressure oxidation method has been used in most smelting plants for high arsenic gold ore pretreatment, while the alkaline pressure oxidation is still not widely applied. Compared with the acidic pressure oxidation, the alkaline pressure oxidation can be realized under lower temperatures."

The last few years have shown a significant increase in the demands for fine products, which means everything under 10µm. There are more and more applications requesting extremely fine ground powders leading to the development of several milling machines which are better adapted to the new products. Cost saving machinery is important for the worldwide competition. Especially the energy consumption is extremely important for any fine ground product. A worthwhile field for mechanical engineering companies is the dry milling machinery as there are not as many solutions available compared with wet milling applications. In many cases wet mil-ling is the only solution to reach the requested quality, but there are also a lot of applications which can be performed in a dry way on the premise that the right mill and classifier are available. Dry milling permits to save energy and allows to influence the particle size distribution more easily, as a classifier can be used in that case. This will significantly reduce production costs and can enable the production of new products with better properties. The Tower Mill is well-known already in the field of wet grinding. Recent research work and end user reports have shown clearly that this mill has a lot of advantages compared to a ball mill. Up to now this advantage is limited to wet grinding as only few mills have been used for dry grinding. There is no doubt about the efficiency of dry grinding, but new and improved feeding and discharg-ing systems have to be developed in order to enable the full range of its advantages. Especially the high production capacities are a challenge for mill and classifier designers. The Tower Mill with its special grinding mechanism allows to cope with very high feed rates, because machines with more than 1 MW are available. Improved grinding efficiency will decrease the circulation load through the classifier and also lead to smaller classifier sizes. Together with im-proved mills the classifier can work more efficiently because the feed material is finer. Results of a test center plant production will be shown together with a comparison between stan-dard machinery and the MaxxMill®. Preferential applications for each mill will be explained.

The present paper deals with the development of flotation based process for enrichment of a lead-zinc sulphide ore from Ganesh-Himal region of Nepal. Detailed characterisation and flotation studies were carried out under varying process conditions. The sample assayed 2.47% Pb with 13.6% Zn. The ore was predominantly made up of spahlerite and pyrite in association with subordinate amounts of galena, minor amounts of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. Dolomite was the main gangue. The modal analysis showed the probability of fair liberation of sulphides from gangues around 210 microns but the locking of galena with sphalerite and other sulphides continued to finer sizes. Under the optimum process conditions the rougher lead and zinc recoveries were 96.3% and 90% respectively. Multistage cleanings of rougher products proved helpful in improving the concentrate grade, meeting the required specification. Based on the studies undertake a process flow-sheet for the concentration of the ore to individual lead and zinc concentrates was developed.

"The present study deals with copper losses in slag from copper smelting. Copper slag cooling at Aurubis Bulgaria is traditionally done in pits. A new type of slag-cooling is introduced in the site, involving cooling ladles. In a previous study, the ladle cooling process was studied in detail, showing an improvement in the recovery of copper in the slag after flotation. The main reason for better recovery of copper is the increased cooling time, which allows for the accumulation and aggregation of copper droplets. The effects of the newly introduced slag cooling process are studied using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Cooling in pits and in ladles is compared, based on copper droplet size, distribution and content. Specialized image processing software is employed on images taken with an optical microscope. The results are then compared with a similar technique, available in SEM software. The availability of phase-analysing image software in combination with electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy makes it possible to study the morphological properties, distribution and chemical composition of the copper droplets. The obtained results confirm the initial conclusions about size, distribution and composition of the copper-bearing particles. A large amount of copper particles is examined showing an obvious increase in their size from pit- to ladle cooling. The results show an increase in the average size of the droplets, which doubles from pit-cooling to ladle-cooling. There is a well-pronounced tendency of decrease of the percentage of droplets in the smallest fraction (<5 µm) in the ladle-cooled slag. In addition, the number of droplets in the larger fractions increases, compared to the ones in the pit-cooled slags. It is believed, that the developed methodology for analysis provides a relatively quick and reliable solution for comparison of the cooling rates in the slag. INTRODUCTION In the process of copper smelting and converting, iron-silicate slags are produced that contain various amounts of dissolved and entrained copper. Different physical and chemical techniques are employed for the valorisation of the remaining metals in the slag – magnetic separation, leaching, roasting, flotation, etc. According to Gorai et al (2003), about 2.2 tons of slag is produced per ton of metal. In 2016, about 20 million tons of copper have been produced globally (www.icsg.org). At an average of 0.5 percent copper content after treatment, these slags contain more than two hundred thousand tons of copper which is lost due to inefficient processing."

"The aim of the project was to develop a methodology applicable to different South African coal types to be able to predict with a high degree of certainty what kind of reagent will be suitable for flotation of a certain coal type.The study included 5 coal samples from different collieries and included Highveld seam 3 and 4 coal (as one sample), Waterberg coal (zone 10 -11), Highveld seam 5 upper coal and Witbank seam 2 and seam 4 coal. Seam 3 and 4 (mixture) coal, Waterberg and the seam 5 upper coal were all found to be vitrinite rich coals. The coal characterisation study included petrographic analysis, proximate analysis, float-sink analysis, oxygen-containing functional groups, surface extraction, flotation release analysis and contact angle measurements.The flotation tests showed that the best reagents to float all of the coal samples studied are iso-decanol and dodecene. These reagents produced flotation products that are near to the release curve. Statistical relationship for predicting ash content and yield that can be expected for a certain coal type and selected collector was obtained. From the relationship, the accuracy of the yield is above 95% (p-value below 0.05) with a linear regression of 0.9289. The accuracy of the ash is slightly lower with a linear regression of 0.7841 but also above 95%."

Hydrocyclone is widely used in closed-circuit grinding process. However, in the first classification operation of coarse particles with high pulp density, the shortcomings of traditional cyclone are that the grinding cycle load is much high, the apex of cyclone is easily to be blocked and classification efficiency is less. Specifically, the problems of traditional cyclone used in grinding process are as follows: (1) Mill utilization factor is low and its handling capacity is small. (2) Coarse particles mixing in cyclone overflow affects the following separation process and fine particles mixing in underflow causes over-grinding, which affects the total recovery rate of valuable minerals. (3) High grinding cycle load leads to large amount of high-density slurry pumping, which causes high energy consumption and severe wear of cyclones, pipelines and pumps. The applications of new type pre-classification hydrocyclone with centrifugal volute in the first classification process of Iron Mine Mill are introduced in the paper. Pulp particles fed in the centrifugal volute were arranged in advance, so that coarse particles can be far away from the overflow pipe, which can reduce the short circuit current to avoid coarse particles entering overflow and improve classification efficiency and accuracy of cyclone. The strong points of the new cyclone in the coarse classification operation are as follows: (1) finer overflow and less fine particles mixing in underflow improves classification efficiency more than 10%; (2) lower ball mill load cycle improves ball capacity more than 10%;(3) grinding energy consumption reduces by more than 20% and cyclone feed pump reduces energy consumption by more than 12%. In short, new type pre-classification cyclone with centrifugal volute solves the problems of fine particles mixing in underflow, high grinding cycle load and less classification efficiency in the coarse classification operation. Therefore, it has broad application prospects in ferrous metal and non-ferrous metal ore dressing plant.

Mineralogical studies indicate the Pt-Pd-Bi-Te class to react poorly on the flotation stimuli and indications are that these minerals are slow floaters. However, recent studies performed on a number of minerals from this class indicated strong interactions with potassium ethyl xanthate resulting in the formation of dixanthogen (only one of several xanthate species). The poor flotation response is not a result of poor interaction of xanthate with the surface. It is proposed that the oxidation products of sulfides in the process water interact with the PGM surface. To test this, the effect of thiosulfate (an important oxidation product of sulfides) was investigated by employing electrochemical measurements and FTIR spectroscopy. The electrochemical investigations indicate no strong effect of thiosulfate on the interaction of xanthate with the minerals surface as well as the reduction of oxygenthiosulfate is likely not responsible for the poor flotation response of these minerals in industrial plants.

Usually magnetic separation is performed to separate ferromagnetic, paramagnetic and diamagnetic particles by controlling magnetic field strength. In this research the wet high gradient magnetic separation at various kinds of magnetization of medium has been investigated to separate different kinds of magnetization of paramagnetic mineral particles from each other. Most of week paramagnetic particles are captured at high magnetic field using superconducting magnet. If the magnetization of fluid is larger than that of paramagnetic particle, the paramagnetic particle cannot be captured in the direction of magnetic field. The paramagnetic particles of different magnetization such as hematite, chromium oxide, perovskite and rutile are separated in different magnetization of fluids. These particles are present in the incinerated bottom ash. The separation is useful to recover titanium oxide from bottom ash and the removal of chromium of bottom ash is important to reuse the bottom ash as cement. The used fluids are paramagnetic liquids dissolving paramagnetic salts and the water based magnetic fluid dispersing the stable ultrafine magnetite. The dispersion condition of particles related to zeta-potential of the suspension feed is also important to separate effectively by controlling pH
