High Gradient Magnetic Separator with Horizontal Magnetic Line is a new type High Gradient Magnetic Separator product. It has many specific advantages, such as water-air joint discharging technique, double pulses pulp dispersion technique, multi-magnetic gradient for collecting matrix with different diameter rods, better discharging rate with the especial matrix dispose, high separating accuracy and wide applicability. In this paper, the author makes a description of High Gradient Magnetic Separator with Horizontal Magnetic Line, and puts its emphasis on analyzing industrial production data using high gradient magnetic separator with Horizontal Magnetic Line to separate weakly magnetic minerals. It is found that as the rougher for weakly magnetic minerals separation, High Gradient Magnetic Separator with Horizontal Magnetic Line has more stable metallurgical performance and cheaper running costs than other types of High Gradient Magnetic Separator when the properties of the ore change greatly and there is in the case of embedded fine particle size distribution. We experimented with slurry which from one of coal preparation plant in Guizhou province and made researches on double hump gradation, one of critical factor of gradation technology, which can influence pulping character in the process of making coal water mixture (CWM). The purpose for it is to find the best particle gradation which can meet the requirements in concentration, viscosity, and stability for CWM. The final result is that the concentration, viscosity, stability of CWM can meet the requirement for industrial use while the rate of fine particle in the slurry is 70%~75% and the maximum concentration of 62%.

The paper is concerned with an analysis of the experience gained in development of special electro-technical installations applied in electric-pulse destruction of materials. A principle scheme of an electric electric-pulse installation is given, and electric circuit variants of its blocks made on various element bases are discussed. "The hydrodynamics of the Tri-Flo™, a two stage cylindrical cyclone used in dense media separation, is studied using Computational Fluid Dynamics. The flow field is simulated with an Euler-Euler Volume of Fluid two-phase approach and the Reynolds stress turbulence model.A unique feature of the device is that the separation medium suspension is pumped and introduced tangentially into the two cylindrical compartments while the raw feed is conveyed to the feed hopper and fed at the axial inlet. This feature allows to use less pumping energy and limits the unavoidable production of fines. The Tri-Flo™ complex flow pattern is little known but central to the efficiency of the separation.The velocity field is computed within the two compartments of the separator. The interface of the air-core that forms in the inner axial part of the cylindrical sections is identified and visualized. The numerical results for a reduced-size 100 mm ID Tri-Flo™ are compared against laser Doppler measurements on a transparent acrylic model (Chinè, 1995) operated with water. The robustness of the model and its prediction capability are verified.The possibility to accurately predict the velocity profiles within the vessel and their dependence on the main Tri-Flo™ operating and geometrical variables paves the way to a better understanding of the functioning of the separator, its design improvements and scale-up."

"Energy is vital for economic growth and sustainable development. Greater efforts are being devoted to developing unconventional energy resources such as oil shale as an alternative promising source of oil or solid fuel supplement. The main object of this contribution is to determine the upgrade potential of El-Nakheil oil shale using froth flotation. Samples were prepared by comminution followed by sieving into different size fractions. The flotation behavior of the material and extent of cleaning was studied with respect to nonionic and ionic collectors of anionic and cationic types. It was found that the organic rich portions could not be rendered sufficiently hydrophobic by the used collectors and selectivity towards surfactant was very low."

Bentonite is an important industrial mineral with very wide application areas. Its unique colloidal, swelling, thickening and adsorption properties make it a useful agent in drilling, metal casting, and iron ore pelletizing, environmental, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and many more industries. Because of its swelling property, bentonite suspensions can only be prepared at rather low solid coentrations, i.e. 8-10%. In order to process bentonite in slurries with high solid content, it was thought that a non-polar organic solvent, instead of water, can be used. Not only large amounts of bentonite can be dispersed in organic solvents but also the solvents may be regenerated. The bentonite obtained through such a process must either equal or better properties than those of untreated bentonite. In this study, the effect of organic solvents such as acetone, methyl-ethyl ketone and n-haxane on the main properties of bentonite, such as water adsorption and rheology, was investigated. The gold-ore Olympiada deposit is located within the Yenissei range (Krasnoyarsk Region, Russia). Primary sulphides ores are metasomatic changed rocks, mica-calcite-quartz structure with impurity amphiboles, chlorites, carbon, the rare thin grains of sulfides (up to 3%~5%) and native gold. The structures of ores are fine-grained, prevailing texture of ores - interspersed, vein-interspersed, band-interspersed, veinlet. The most important minerals in the deposit are: gold, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, antimonite, Sb-sulphosalt, quartz, muscovite, calcite, siderite, titanium minerals, chlorite and minor sulfides like chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite, etc. A common problem in mineralogical studies applied to mineral processing (concentration, cyanidation, etc.) is the characterization of gold in ores and technological products. This paper discusses the behavior of minerals during technological process at operating factory in Olympiada Mine and gold distribution in the ores and products. For the mineralogical characterization of minerals ? combination of analytical techniques was used. Gold is encountered in the primary ores as free grains among rocks, growth with sulfides and nonmetallic minerals, inclusions in sulfides, sulphosalt, and nonmetallic minerals. The gold-sulphide ores of Olympiada deposit can be quite complicated for enrichment. With the purpose to increase the extraction of metal from concentrates by liberating the dispersed gold, forming inclusions in sul-fides, there is used technology of biooxidation of flotation concentrates in Olympiada Mine. Gold and the basic ore-forming minerals in the ores feed, sulphidic concentrates, biocakes, tailings of concentrates of flotation and products of hydrometallurgical leaching have been studied in the mineralogical research. During researches it is established that pyrrhotite was completely oxidized while arsenopyrite was oxidized almost completely in the bacterial oxidation process. Pyrite and antimony minerals behave similarly and were oxidized only partially. The main oxyhydroxides in the bacterial oxida-tion process are goethite, limonite and jarosite. The results of mineralogical researches showed reasons of losses of gold during hydrometallurgical enrichment.

"Pre-concentration is a necessary step for upgrading low-grade iron ores, and its aim is to remove gangue minerals for improving efficiency of downstream separation process. The most important pre-concentration technique for iron ores, including hematite, siderite and limonite, is magnetic separation based on the appreciable differences between the desired iron minerals and gangue minerals in magnetic susceptibility. In this paper, the separation efficiency of one-stage low-intensity magnetic roughing combined with two-stage high-gradient magnetic scavenging for the pre-concentration of a low-grade hematite from Donganshan was investigated. It is a BIF type of ore containing hematite, magnetite and a bit of siderite, and an average content of Fe is about 34.6%. The effects of grinding fineness and magnetic field intensity for scavenging I and II were studied and optimized. The results showed that a magnetic preconcentrate assaying 42.7% with a recovery of 95.4% was obtained under the conditions of ore grinding fineness of -74 µm 70%, magnetic field intensity of 300 mT and 800 mT for scavenging I and II, respectively. Over 20% of the feed was rejected as the final tailings assaying 6.4% Fe. Meanwhile, the XRD, iron chemical phase and SEM analyses of different stage products revealed that hematite, magnetite and siderite could be recovered successfully by magnetic separation. However, some ultra-fine hematite particles (-10 µm) were difficult to be captured by magnet, and lost in the final tailing, resulting in lower iron recovery.INTRODUCTION Donganshan iron ore belongs to sedimentary-metamorphic iron formation called banded iron formation (BIF), which is formed in the Precambrian with a layered structure composed of ore bodies (Shen, 2012). Such type of iron deposit contains various iron-bearing minerals like hematite, magnetite, and siderite, suggesting it may be amenable to pre-concentration with magnetic separation. The pre-concentration process is effectively applied in recovering hematite, magnetite and siderite from iron ore, due to its benefits of further upgrading iron ore and improving separation efficiency. The most important pre-concentration technique for iron ore is magnetic separation, including low-intensity magnetic separation and high-gradient magnetic separation, based on the fact that there are appreciable differences between the desired hematite, magnetite or siderite and the gangue minerals in magnetic susceptibility."

The intelligent recognizing and processing system for sinter ore mineragraphy make a great convenience of recognition and measurement. Specially, it?s critical important for a successful intelligent system to extract the minerals? feature accurately and sufficiently. Reflection index, as the crucial feature of mineral, is calculated by the theoretical calculating model of index based on the principle of imaging color models. In gray histogram of minerals? micrograph, the peaks? positions represent the information about mineral categories and contents. The relationships of different minerals? peak-positions in curve of gray histogram were got by using the peak-find model of gray histogram and calculating model of reflection index. These two models which can be regard as the method of feature extraction for minerals? photomicrograph also lay a good foundation for the artificial intelligent system of recognition and processing in sinter ore.

Selection of mill size for reducing a feed material of a given size to the desired product size is generally based on the specific energy estimate obtained from Bond test. Over the last thirty years or so, an attempt has been made to develop a more accurate and powerful alternative approach based on the characterization of the particle breakage kinetics and material transport through the mill over a range of operating conditions of interest and correlating the degree of size reduction achieved with the net specific energy input to the mill. Particle breakage kinetics are described in terms of the specific grinding rate and breakage distribution parameters for the individual size fractions. Precise estimates of these parameters and the net energy input to the test ball mill (a laboratory or pilot scale mill) are important for development of desired energy-size correlations. In this context, three tasks are important: (a) preparation of the feed charge, (b) design of batch grinding experiments and (c) computational technique used for estimation of the breakage rate and breakage distribution parameters. This paper highlights several aspects of these three tasks that have been overlooked by researchers working in this field, and describes a more appropriate approach for estimation of model parameters and specific energy input. Several examples are included based on the data available in the literature and those generated in our laboratories to illustrate important points.

The lecture is about the growing role and the evolution of advanced process control (APC) in the mining and mineral processing industry, taking into account major trends in Information Technology. It reflects the standpoint of a team, which has already successfully developed APC technology for more than 20 years. Advanced process control systems tend to rely on combinations of artificial intelligence techniques or algorithms that complement each other and cooperate. Each technique or algorithm makes it possible to use certain type of knowledge about the process, so that the advanced control systems benefit at any time from the combined knowledge of process and control engineers and plant operators, from knowledge derived from past research work and process modeling, from a considerable amount of data provided by advanced instrumentation in real time, and from knowledge that can be extracted automatically and at any time from past data and images. The lecture will first review and compare the role, merits and limitations of algorithms that are used for online decision making in mineral processing plants: expert systems, fuzzy logic, neural networks, soft sensors, optimizers, and MPC controllers. The lecture will also review the role of online image analysis and sound analysis in process control. Recent developments in this area open new dimensions, in particular the ability for advanced process control algorithms to automatically explore the past, move back and forth in time in order to make better informed decisions, and the ability to cooperate with the operators for better performance. Applications will be presented. Recent progress in process simulation makes it possible to design, configure, check, and pre-tune APC systems before plant startup, opening new options for implementing APC. Mica plate is broadly used in electric industry, production of man-made mica paper plate is in-creasing. The problem coming with is that large quantities of leftover materials unable to be re-cycled are produced during cutting and molding of mica plate productions. The leftover materials are always abandoned as crabs, which not only pollute the environment but also waste our resources. The study intends to find a new measure to decompose and to reuse the mica plate leftover materials so as to create a new production process of mica plate, which is clean and does not produce crabs.

The superior characteristics of iron ore pellets compared with natural ore and sinter are well known. Due to the higher grade and bulk density they show improved transport and material handling properties. While charging blast furnaces with pellets an increased productivity is realized through pellet?s uniform structure and composition. The increased productivity is caused by a high permeable furnace burden with a decreased coke usage via fuel injection and oxygen enrichment. Therefore, a narrow pellet size distribution and a minimum content -6.3 mm are necessary (Meyer, 1980). The required pellet size distribution can be achieved on the one hand by screening the fired pellets after the induration furnace and recycle the undersized pellets. On the other hand it is possible to produce high quality iron ore pellets with a high degree of sphericity, the important narrow grain size distribution ranging between 9 to 16 mm with high green strength directly in the pelletizing device. To produce high quality green pellets, possibilities and knowledge about adjustments of the pelletizing device are necessary. The paper presents a classification of state of the art pelletizing systems in accordance with the advantages of the pelletizing disc and pelletizing drum in issues like adjustability, green pellet quality, the recycling rate and the space requirement. By a systematization of the influences on pelletizing the common reliance of objectives on influence like pelletizing moisture, disc inclination, rotational speed, mass flow and rim height are given. The flotation efficiency of magnetic concentrate of the Anhui hematite ore, which includes a great quantity of iron-bearing silicates, has been studied through reverse flotation test with a new type of collector Fly-102. The results indicate that collector Fly-102 has a strong adaptability to the variation of temperature, when the flotation temperature is in the range of 10? to 35?, using collector Fly-102 can obtain good flotation indexes. Collector Fly-102 has a strong adaptability to the variation of the slime contents and grades of the flotation samples. When the content of slime and the grade of the flotation feeds are 30% and 55.63% respectively, under the condition that the temperature is 15?, the open circuit flotation test was carried out with collector Fly-102. After one-stage roughing, one-stage cleaning and two-stage scavenging, a better result is got, the grade of iron concentrate reaches 67.12%, and the recovery of iron concentrate comes up to 84.15%.

In this apparatus closed sized particles are placed in a container and then fluidized by passing water through the load of particles. Water flow is adjusted to deposit particles in one or more layers depending on the specific gravity of each of the particles, after which the deposited particles are separated in portions of different specific gravity. The obtained portions represent different ore content of the closed sized fraction. The process is repeated for all other size fractions to generate washability curve of the feed. Three different types of iron ores and one coal sample are tested in this equipment. The theoretical yield-grade curve generated for iron ore feed is unique in absence of any such practice for ore minerals. Similar curve is generated for coal and it is compared with washability curve, an existing practice followed worldwide. This comparison validates the performance of the process and the equipment.

"Introducing cutting-edge development work, which aims to simplify mineral processing flow-sheets, reduce costs and address environmental issues. Over the past four years Innovative Mineral Processing Technologies Pty. Ltd (IMPTEC) Australia have developed a Super-fine Crusher and a Planar Magnetic Separator which offer low cost, wet or dry alternatives to conventional grinding and conventional magnetic separation. Each of these machines has been successfully trialed at pilot scale and are now in the process of transitioning to commercial scale. This paper reports on the progress made in each of these fields. The potential scope for application of super-fine crushing technology as an alternative to grinding is potentially expansive and could include beneficiation of metalliferous ores, precious metal ore processing, hydrometallurgical processing, industrial minerals and coal processing, plastic fillers and ceramics processing as well as processing of cementitious slags and fly-ash. IMPTEC have recently achieved outstanding results at pilot scale with a dry combination of super-fine crushing and planar magnetic separation, which offers an alternative to the wet processing of magnetic iron ores. The dry combination has set new laboratory performance benchmarks when compared with the industry standard wet Davis Tube Tester. The test results have also established a strong evidence base showing that super-fine crushing achieves liberation of value minerals at coarser sizes when compared with grinding. The dry combination of super-fine crushing and planar magnetic separation also addresses environmental issues and completely eliminates grinding. An IMPTEC super-fine crusher is currently undergoing commercial trials, generating ultra-fine products from granulated lead blast furnace slag for use as cement substitutes. The performance of the super-fine crusher on this extreme duty highlights the potential benefits of super-fine crushing over the wide range of industries and applications where conventional grinding is employed.INTRODUCTION Present day mineral processing practices can become anchored in convention, where, inefficient methodologies are recognized and accepted as “best practice” or “industry standard”. Motivated by this challenge, IMPTEC has undertaken the development of radically different and improved methodologies in the fields of fine comminution and magnetic separation. Whilst, crushing is much less energy intensive and generally less capital and maintenance intensive than grinding, the technology has stalled due to the lack of crushing devices, which have the capacity to adapt to fine and ultra-fine duties. Grinding practice advances have been achieved through major increases in machine size and power. However, these advances are also accompanied by major escalations in capital, operating and maintenance costs. The economics of this strategy has become increasingly questionable. A typical example is the viability of low-grade magnetite beneficiation, which can hinge largely on the cost of grinding to fine and ultra-fine liberation sizes."

The German Kupferschiefer (copper shale) mining history reaches back over 800 years with its last active mines being shut down in 1990. Increasing metal demands and potential thread of future supply shortages led to the initiation of new exploration programs including feasibility studies for the Spremberg deposit as well as Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funded research investigations of Kupferschiefer Waste Dump treatment in the Mansfelder region. This article describes the sensor based sorting results of coarse Kupferschiefer via Near Infrared (NIR) Sorting, being conducted by the department of mineral processing (AMR) in Aachen, Germany. It provides information about the necessity of presorting of the different ore types prior to flotation and puts the NIR Sorting results into context with conventional Kupferschiefer processing. "The ball mill performance relies on impact grinding, but it has disadvantage of the lower efficiency when the ore is finer; while tower mill relies on friction shear affection with high energy efficiency, which is considered to be one of the most potential fine grinding equipment all over the world. Generated by the agitator device, the internal media movement is complex because of comprehensive interaction of screw mechanism, cylinder structure and adjacent media, which is the key factor of grinding process. But the kinematics parameter ,such as speed, acceleration, stress and so on, of media motion cannot be obtained through traditional laboratory test method, which restricts deeply research on finer grinding mechanism seriously. In order to solve this problem, characteristics of media motion in tower mill is studied via the discrete element method. Coefficient of restitution, coefficient of static friction and coefficient of rolling friction are the key parameters affecting the media movement, which were calibrated by stacking angle test firstly. A 3kW tower mill is established as the model for simulation. At last one appropriate simulation strategy is selected to increase simulation accuracy. The characteristic of media motion is obtained based on the computer simulation analysis: macroscopically, the media in tower mill is a dynamic equilibrium state generally accompanied by spiral up and down movement all the time. And it has been found that the maximum lifting height is proportional to the rotation speed of agitator shaft. The velocity of media at the edge of screw stirrer is biggest, while the velocity of media near the cylinder wall is smaller, so the grinding performance between the two ring areas is the best. The rotational speed of agitator shaft and media filling ratio are the two most important operating parameters in tower mill. The impact curve of two main operating parameters on the grinding intensity and energy efficiency are obtained. All these can provide theoretical basis and technical support for operating parameters setting of industrial tower mill."

"With the increasing depletion of high-grade ore deposits, smarter mineral processing solutions are required to achieve sustainable and economic methods for mining and processing low-grade deposits. In order to make the treatment of low-grade deposits economically viable, large quantities of rock need to be mined and processed. The associated infrastructure costs (power, water supply, accommodation and support services, waste storage) result in a substantial penalty on the project, from both capital and operating cost perspectives. As a consequence, the challenge for the mining industry is to overcome the associated rise in energy and water consumption as well as increased project complexity when processing large amounts of low grade ore. Ore sorting technologies have been used for many years, predominantly on small projects, enabling the upgrade of marginal ores. Several sorting methods based on characteristics including specific gravity, radiometry, colour, particle size, grade and other detectable physical characteristics have been employed. The challenge for large low-grade ore bodies is to crush and sort at coarser rock size in order to minimise specific energy consumption in comminution and to reduce waste disposal costs. For large projects, the understanding of the economic impact of ore sorting is limited. The economic drivers include plant head grade improvement; sorting infrastructure capital, operating and maintenance costs; waste material handling and other environmental costs related to waste disposal. This paper analyses the economic impact of ore sorting in a large mineral processing operation. The focus of the analysis is to compare NPVs for a circuit including screening and ore sorting stages. A project for processing an Australian copper sulphide ore is considered as an example for this study."
