The demand for high-grade iron ore has increased the importance of beneficiation of low-grade iron ores. The captive mines of Tata Steel Limited, India has reserves of Banded Haematite Jasper (BHJ) ore assayed 40% Fe, 40% SiO2 and <1% Al2O3. QEMSCAN study has revealed haematite and quartz as a major iron bearing and gangue mineral phases respectively. Liberation characteristics have showed 80% liberation can be obtained at particle size below 10µm. In the present study, reverse cationic froth flotation of BHJ using ether diamines is explored in Denver-D12 flotation cell. Polynomial response surface regression equation coupled with six-factor Box-Behnken design of experiments is used to generate the correlation between process separation efficiency and flotation parameters. Flotation studies of BHJ indicated that concentrate of 62% Fe can be achieved with 62% Fe recovery from Jig concentrate at optimum conditions. Large quantities of electrical and electronic equipments are discarded at the end-of-life (EOL) in different industries and house hold applications. Their disposal is creating a challenging environmental problem due to the presence of hazardous metals and non-metallic materials such as epoxy resins and plastics including brominated flame retardants etc particularly in printed circuit boards (PCBs). The recovery valuable metals and separation of hazardous materials from discarded PCBs will not only conserve the resources but also mitigate the environmental pollution. From a recycling point of view for a sustainable society, the studies have been carried out for the recovery of metal values from EOL-PCBs of DVD video players (DVD-PCBs) and vacuum cleaners (VC-PCBs) using physical beneficiation techniques. The concentration of the metals was found to be 43 wt.% and 30 wt.% in DVD-PCBs and VC-PCBs, respectively. Both the PCBs samples were ground in a hammer mill after cutting and their size analysis was carried out. The liberation of the metallic and non-metallic fractions was investigated under the microscope for different size fractions. Subsequently, froth flotation and pneumatic air separation studied were carried out to enrich the metallic constituents. The studies showed the enrichment of metals in coarser particles (-1000 +150 µm) and non-metals in the finer particles -150 µm following mechanical recycling process. A grade of 90 % with 75% recovery was achieved by froth flotation, but lower grade and recovery of 75% and 65% respectively were obtained by pneumatic separation with -1500 µm powders for DVD-PCBs. A grade of 86% metal was obtained by froth flotation with 76% recovery in the case of VC-PCBs. The lower grade of 65% with almost same recovery was achieved during pneumatic separation studies due to lower concentration of metals in VC-PCBs. The studies also showed that the froth flotation is an efficient process for enrichment of metals from both the samples. The process is environmental friendly as no chemicals are employed during entire processing. The higher recovery and grade of metal is expected to be obtained on a large scale beneficiation process.

"Indian coal industry is the world's third largest in terms of production and fourth largest in terms of proven coal resources. Indian coal deposits are generally of high ash content varying from 24 to 50%. The coking coal reserves of India constitute about 12% of the total coal inventory, and the coals are washed in washeries, before being used for metallurgical purposes. The processes used for washing coking coal is Jigs, Heavy medium bath and Cyclones for the sizes upto 0.5mm, while the coal fines are washed in spirals and conventional flotation cells. Extensive studies were carried out for understanding the performance of an operating conventional flotation plant. The performance studies revealed that appreciable quantity of clean coal is being lost in the tailings due to varied reasons and the required quantity and quality was not achieved. In this study, laboratory Flotation experiments were carried out to examine the cleaning characteristics of the said tailing and to determine the effective process parameters for recovery of clean coal at desired ash level ( 16-17%). Response Surface Methodology was applied to investigate the operating conditions of the Froth Flotation for modeling and optimization. Primary study reflects that there is a possibility to recover clean coal at 16-17% ash level with a yield of about 60-70% from that Flotation tailing of feed ash about 28%.INTRODUCTIONMost of the Indian coking coals are difficult in cleaning characteristics and high ash content due to its drift origin and its age of formation for more than 225 million years. Indian coking coal reserve is limited about 12% of total coal reserve. The minerals are homogeneously mixed with the coal macerals. The open cast mining practice and mechanized mining methods are being adopted to meet the increasing demands of coals resulting in generation of more coal fines and subsequently the quality is deteriorated. Indian good quality coking coal reserves of higher seams are fast depleting and hence coking coals of difficult cleaning characteristics of lower seams (LVC) are being now explored. Due to increased mechanization of coal mines to cope up the increased demand and followed by size reduction of lower seam coals in search of better liberation , the coal fines are increasing by leaps and bounds. The processes used for washing coking coal is Jigs, Heavy medium bath and Cyclones for the sizes upto 0.5mm, while the coal fines are washed in spirals and conventional flotation cells."

The structure-activity relationships for four thionocarbamate collectors are discussed in this pa-per. These collector classes are alkyl alkyl thionocarbamates, allyl alkyl thionocarbamates, acyl al-kyl thionocarbamates and alkoxylcarbonyl alkyl thionocarbamates. The main emphasis will be to highlight the differences between collectors and their affinities for copper and iron sulfide minerals on the basis of data on electronic-structure properties obtained by vacuum and solution density functional calculations, flotation experiments and analysis measurements. The mechanism of interaction of these collectors with sulfide minerals is also discussed with perturbation theory. The theoretical study results indicate that acyl alkyl thionocarbamates and alkoxylcarbonyl alkyl thionocarbamates have best performance in these agents as flotation collectors with improved collecting power for copper sulfide minerals and excellent selectivity against iron sulfide minerals, which are consistent with the experimental data reported in the literature.

India ranks fourth in the world of iron ore production and exported 55% of the total iron ore production of 180.9 million tons in 2006-07. As per United Nations Framework Classification (UNFC), the total iron ore reserves in India is 25249 mt. This consists of about 14630 mt of Hematite ore and 10619 mt of Magnetite ore. While the deposits of magnetite iron ore are limited to the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, hematite ore is available in abundance in Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Goa. National Steel Policy, declared by government of India in 2005 envisages 110 million tons of steel production by 2020. This is likely to be revised upwards. Massive exploration work in iron ore is needed to convert the available resources of iron ore into reserve category. Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) produced more than 24.5 million tons of iron ore during 2006-07 and plans to produce 42.0 million tons per year by the year 2010-11 to meet the requirement for a hot metal production of 26.2 million tons. While processing iron ore, the challenge faced would be the reduction of the gangue materials ? alumina and silica. It is proposed to bring down alumina and silica in the iron ore to less than 2% each from the current level of 2.5%~3.5% each. Appropriate beneficiation schemes are being developed depending upon the mineralogical characteristics of iron ores at different mines in the country. The state-of-art beneficiation technologies like Hydro-cyclone, jigging, magnetic separation etc. will be incorporated. SAIL?s corporate plan envisages blast furnace burden of 15% iron ore lumps, 15% pellets and 70% sinter by 2010. This strategy opens up the opportunity of utilization of micro fines generated in the mining and beneficiation processes for pellet making. This also directs towards all together new technological approach to the beneficiation process. SAIL is planning to set-up three pelletisation plants of 2~3 mtpa capacity. Environmental issues like reduction in slime loss and utilization of dumped low-grade iron ore are very important. R&D Centre for Iron and Steel, SAIL has carried out extensive laboratory investigations in the above area. This will help in reducing the loss of valuable iron through slimes and also increase the iron ore resource base. Laboratory investigations indicate that low grade dumped ore fines with Fe: 55.5% can be upgraded to a product with Fe: 66.2% with about 48% recovery.

High precision on-line particle size distribution measurement of mineral slurries has recently be-come available. It provides new tools for the development of monitoring and optimization methods for mineral grinding and separation circuits. The paper presents the development work at the Kemi chromite concentrator plant of Outokumpu Tornio Works in Northern Finland. The Kemi concentrator processes annually 1.2 Mt of chromium ore. The products are upgraded lumpy ore and metallurgical grade concentrate. The concentrate is produced using gravity separation methods, preceded by a rod mill - ball mill grinding stage. The separation process performance is strongly dependent on the particle size distribution of the grinding product at the Kemi plant. Particle size distribution has a significant effect on the concentrate grade and recovery. Currently a new laser diffraction based on-line particle size analyser is used for monitoring the grinding product. The analyser system allows the measurement of the whole cumulative particle size distribution simultaneously. It provides a wealth of new measurement information for process control. A monitoring and optimization scheme for grinding and gravity separation based on the particle size information is presented. The goal is to minimize the production of fine slime, and subsequently to improve the concentrate quality and minimize chromite recovery losses. Data-based recursively identified linear PLS process models are developed for optimization purposes. The preliminary results of the monitoring system operation in on-line use are presented.

The paper presents the results of experimental investigations of the effect by high-power nano-second electromagnetic pulses (HPEMP) on change of surface composition, physical-chemical and flotation properties of pyrrhotite, and search of optimal combination of flotation reactants providing increase of metal extraction from disseminated copper-nickel ores. Preliminary electropulse effect on products before flotation allows to create optimal conditions for flotation separation of pentlandite and pyrrhotite owing to forming the new phases and defects on the surface of sulphides. It was established, that the yield of monomineral fractions of pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalkopyrite increases by 5%~15 %, compared with flotation with one butyl xanthenes (BX), during usage of combination of thionic carbamate (isopropylmethylthionocarbamate (ITC) or isopropylethyl- thionocarbamate (Z-200) with butyl xanthate (BX). Sorption of investigated reactants and strength of their fixing on the surface of minerals are examined; it helped to reveal the cause of rise of floatability of sulphide minerals for the case of combination of reactants. Preliminary high-pulse processing and reactant conditions with usage of combination of thionic carbamate and xanthate have been tested on the sample of disseminated copper-nickel ore from Norilsk region.

An albitization granite type tantalum-niobium ore from Jiangxi Province, China was taken as the research object in this paper. The main valuable minerals in this ore are tantalite-columbite and uranmicrolite, and the minerals that can be comprehensively recovered include cassiterite, sulfide minerals, topaz, zinnwaldite, and quartz-feldspar. Based on the research results of process mineralogy, the roughing process of gravity separation for coarse particles combined with flotation for fine particles is proposed. The combined cleaning process of flotation-gravity-magnetic-electric-hydrometallurgical separation is adopted for the rough concentrate of gravity separation while the combined cleaning process of gravity-flotation- hydrometallurgical separation is adopted for the rough concentrate of flotation. High intensity magnetic separation is used to separate and recover zinnwaldite and quartz-feldspar from gravity tailings. By mineral processing for the crude ore containing (TaNb)cassiterite concentrate is 0.0003% with a grade of Sn 63.22% and a recovery of Sn 47.42% while the yield of sulfide concentrate is 0.0783% with a grade of Pb 33.15% and Zn 27.09% which can be separated to get lead and zinc concentrate respectively. The yield of topaz concentrate is 0.1545% and the topaz mainly distributed in the size range of -0.4+0.074mm, which can be made into abrasive products of different particle sizes after classification. The yield of zinnwaldite concentrate is 16.91% with a grade of Liwhiteness of 75%, which is a glass-ceramic material of good quality. 2O5 0.0346%, Sn 0.04%, Pb 0.10% and Zn 0.33%, the tantalum-niobium concentrate with a yield of 0.00278%,a grade of (TaNb)2O5 53.61% and a recovery of (TaNb)2O5 44.49% is obtained. And the yield of 2O 1.34% and Rb2O 0.40%. The yield of quartz-feldspar concentrate is 30.42% with a grade of K2O+Na2O 8.98% and Fe2O3 0.11% and a natural All of tantalum, niobium, cassiterite, topaz, zinnwaldite, quartz, and feldspar are recovered effectively. Fine particles are the most valuable because they are the most liberated. However, they are also the most expensive and difficult to recover and concentrate. The Reflux Classifier is a novel invention that combines many of the virtues of existing fine particle separation technologies in a way that provides profound synergies. Multiple parallel narrow channels create a laminar-shear separation zone. The laminar flow provides a well-defined velocity gradient that exposes particles on the wall to a conveying velocity that is approximately proportional to their size, thus reducing the dependence of elutriation velocity on particle size. The high shear rate in these channels generates a hydrodynamic lift force that selectively lifts low-density particles off the channel wall and thus causes them to be preferentially conveyed out in the overflow. Particles that are not elutriated slide back down into the mixing reflux zone beneath the inclined channels which gives them multiple opportunities to re-enter the channels. The resultant suspension of both coarse and fine high-density particles in the fluidized bed zone at the base of the unit generates a strong autogenous dense medium that helps to direct large low-density particles back up to the overflow. The fluidization water also simultaneously de-slimes the high density underflow product. When placed in a centrifuge, the benefits of these features multiply with the improvements in capacity and selectivity that arise from high G-forces. When inverted, these features can be used to perform flotation well beyond the conventional flooding limit. Hence this invention platform has the potential to dramatically improve both gravity and flotation separation performance across the minerals processing industry.

The Chelopech Mine, located in Central Bulgaria, is one of Europe?s largest underground copper- gold mines, currently mines and processes approximately one million tonnes of ore per year. Copper concentrates containing gold and silver with significant arsenic content are produced and sold on the world markets. The operation was acquired by Dundee Precious Metals in 2003. A modernization program for the Mine and Plant has since been in progress to increase both production and mechanical reliability, and also to optimize metallurgical recoveries. Since then, mine output and plant throughput have doubled, plant availabilities and utilization have increased significantly, and overall metallurgical performance for copper and gold improved. The paper presents the systematic approach for obtaining and analyzing data, communicating it, and making suggestions for changes to the technological parameters and flowsheet in order to maximize metal recoveries. These studies have correlated the ore characteristics (particle size distributions, metal assays, and Cu and Au mineralogical and phase analyses) with the actual plant performance (kinetics, recoveries, and throughput). Cu recovery by size has been calculated from the mineralogical analyses of feed, concentrate and tails, with the most significant losses being identified in terms of fraction and phase recoveries. This has provided the recommendations (some of them tested in plant) for changes in the grinding and flotation circuits.

This paper presents the research on comprehensive recovery of copper, gold, silver and iron from tailings from high-intensity magnetic separation in Tonglushan Mine. By comparison of experimental results of three flowsheets?regrinding of tailings-conventional sulphidizing flotation, water heating enhanced sulphidizing flotation and acid leaching-sulphidizing precipitation flotation, it is concluded that regrinding of tailings-conventional sulphidizing flotation flowsheet has the best economical and technical performance and practicability. Regrinding and using the mixture of sodium hydroxamate and sodium xanthate are two of the notable technical characteristics of this best flowsheet. The system for comprehensive recovery of tailings has been put into production. It not only can recover the valuable minerals from tailings in Tonglushan Mine, but also can reduce the environmental pollution, resulting great economic and social benefit.

Rare metal ores have those features of high industrial value and bad performance in ore separation. Most of rare metals ores are with low grade of valuable components, rareness of useful minerals, complicated combination of associated minerals and high difficulty in separation and enrichment of minerals. For those single (Ta, Nb) or (Ta, Nb, Sn) ore occurred in granite and pegmatite, the ways of gravity separation and magneto electric separation to concentrate (Ta, Nb) minerals are adopted. There are many mines being explored successfully both at home and aboard. While, for complex (Nb-Zr-REE) ores associated with Be and Ti minerals, they are commonly considered as rich rare metals ore but more difficult to process. One of rare metals mine in Inner Mongolia has the features as with large reserves and high grade of columbium and zirconium and accompanies with REE and beryllium, therefore with significant industrial value. After the utilization of research method of process mineralogy, detailed mineralogy research has been made on the rare metals ore. The test results show that there are abroad isomorphism replacements among such elements, such as Ti, Mn, Fe, Nb and Ta, between Be and REE in metallic oxide minerals of that ore, which makes the mineral composition of that ore extremely complicated. This research identifies clearly the mineral composition, and investigate at the technological property and the occurrence of those elements as Nb, Zr, Be and REE in the rare metal ore. The achievements of this research provide important mineralogy basis for ore dressing research of refractory rare metallic ores.

According to the principle that should be originated from nature, compatible with nature, used in nature and back to nature and based on conception of designing of eco-material, the author combined the ideas of material, environment, zoology and healthy. Properties of natural mineral materials were used to produce micro-aggregate elements by bionic method, so its components and function could accord with living environment. Eco-mineral functional materials which can adjust, purify and optimize the microclimate were reviewed. The authors pointed out the multifunction, com-pounding, the compound characteristics and integration regularities of micro-aggregates. It was the first time in the world to put forward the ?gene? technique or ?material chip? technique of manufacturing function micro-aggregates and eco-function elementary materials. The results of this re-search supported by the national ?863? Hi-tech Project, mainly including the high-efficient air purifying mineral compound material indoor, the clay elementary antibacterial materials, the masonry cement/coating/putty/compound with preventing radon radiation, environmental friendly composite functional coatings, mosquito repellent and healthcare material and zeolite-based energy-saving composite materials, were introduced. Finally, the foreground of mineral materials in the field of future advanced eco-friendly materials was also discussed.

In this paper, an evaluation about the process mineralogy of the rich iron mine in Mongolia with comprehensive methods is given; this provides foundation of the comprehensive recovery of iron and cobalt in the ore. The research shows that the iron?s grade is 61.23%, Co?s grade is 0.02%, the ore is rich iron ore and its Co content also reaches border mining grade. For the ore, if want get high grade iron concentrate powder, must identify the mineral composition and the occurrence of iron and take into ac-count the recovery of Co content as associated resources. Chemical phase analysis results show that 86.35% of iron exists in magnetite, which means that the theoretical recovery ratio of iron is close to 86%. Minerals spectrum analysis confirmed that the magnetite containing a small amount of Mg, Al, and other impurities, the actual iron minerals to 70.28%, which means that theoretically iron grade iron concentrate only close to 70.28%. Based on the result of iron chemical phase analysis, by investigating the liberation of sulfide minerals and gangue, the recovery index of iron can be forecasted, when grinding fineness is 35%, 45%, 55% and 65% bellow 0.074mm,theoretical content of Fe in iron concentrate separately is 67.71%,67.88%,68.78%,and 69.43%,accordingly the theoretical recovery of Fe is 87.38%,87.05%,86.92% and 86.63%. From the perspective of process mineralogy, the forecast mineral beneficiation indicators show that the ore is easy sorting ore, iron processing operations have higher recovery rate, but wants sorting of high-grade iron ore concentrate still need appropriate grinding fineness. Furthermore, associated element Co, existing mostly in pyrite and pyrrhotite, is valuable in the ore. Pyrite and pyrrhotite have ideal liberation under grinding, so cobalt can be easily enriched in sulfide concentrate.

Most of the iron ore washing plants set up in India consist of sizing of the ore by dry / wet screening, washing and classification by screw classifiers followed by multi-stage hydrocycloning of screw classifiers? overflow. The underflow of the hydrocyclones forms the concentrate which is used for pellets making. As the cut-point of hydrocyclones is generally at 20 microns, relatively lower diameter cyclones in a cluster with parallel feeding are used. This is found to, often, result in choking of the spigots, at times, by extraneous material as well reporting along with the slurry. It is observed to lead to sub-optimum performance of the cyclones with loss of iron values into cyclone overflow and thereafter into tailings. Analysis of data of an operating beneficiation plant (Beneficiation Plant - 1, BP - 1) of M/s Jindal South West (JSW) Steel Limited, Karnataka, India over a period of one year indicated that weight recovery of the concentrate from two-stage hydrocycloning was 45% (with respect to feed to the cyclones) and assaying 63.43% Fe, 4.43% SiO2 and 2.32% Al2O3. CSIR - National Metallurgical Laboratory - Madras Centre (NML - MC), India developed flotation process for processing screw classifier overflow with a view to improve the recovery of ultrafine iron values from it. Detailed investigations at laboratory scale flotation column and on-site pilot plant trials proved that the production of the concentrate and productivity of the plant could be enhanced by adopting reverse cationic column flotation technology. It was established that a typical screw classifier overflow analyzing 60.54% Fe, 5.95% SiO2 and 3.67% Al2O3 could be upgraded to 64.21% Fe, 2.64% SiO2 and 2.20% Al2O3 with 82.7% weight and 84.7% Fe recovery. This translates into an increase of 80% in weight recovery of the concentrate compared to what is being obtained, at present, by two-stage cycloning. It had an added advantage of reduced SiO2 in the concentrate. Thus, SiO2 in the final concentrate could be reduced to 2.64% from 4.43% by adopting column flotation. The concentrate so generated meets the stringent specifications, especially in terms of alumina in it(should be less than 2.50%) for pellets making. Later, JSW Steel Limited set up the flotation plant in BP - 1 based on the process developed by NML - MC and was commissioned in 2010. There are many measuring methods of grain sizes. Taking into consideration the fine grained materials, one of the existing techniques is measurement of grain size by the Coulter Counter method. This method is based on the measuring the changes of electrolyte resistance during grains flow through the calibrated diaphragm. This method is relatively simple to apply, significantly precise and the results are given quickly. However, the problem is that the measurements are limited by the size of diaphragm. Because of this situation, measurement of grain sizes by this instrument is possible in range from 10% to 60% of diaphragm diameter. This limitation causes the necessity of re-placing diaphragm in case when the measured grain size distribution concerns the material of large size range. In purpose of determining the total grain size distribution, the synthesis of some partial distributions, given for individual grain fractions (with different diaphragm applied), is required. This is possible to do by calculating the mixture of distribution functions, created from the partial distribution functions. Two materials were selected to research: quartzite and glass, which were comminuted in cylindrical crusher, additionally grinded, screened and then analyzed by Coulter Counter for five grain fractions: 0~125 µm, 0~80 µm, 0~56 µm, 0~40 µm and 0~25 µm. For each fraction, five different partial distributions were given (in case of glass ? four), which are the basis for the creating the joined grain composition. To assure the adequacy of the given distribution function, it is necessary to obtain the possibly best approximation of partial distributions. In the work, both the parametric and non-parametric methods of density approximations of investigated random variable. For each grain fraction the approximations were done by three traditional distribution functions: RRB, GSA and log-norm distribution functions and three methods of non-parametric approximation: Gauss kernel, Epanechnikov kernel and orthogonal Fourier series method. With the progressive depletion of known resources of good quality coal and minerals as well as the increasing demand of these minerals by different user industries, the emphasis has been shifted all over the world from selective mining to bulk mining followed by up- gradation to obtain the required quality of concentrate. The column flotation cell is one of the alternatives to reduce the gangue content of fines because of its inherent characteristics viz. easier to operate, low space required, no moving parts etc. A laboratory flotation column is used to conduct experiment. Present work has been undertaken to observe the effect of process variables (gas flow rate, feed/slurry flow rate, and frother concentration) on gas dispersion parameters (gas holdup, bubble surface area flux) in collection zone and to explore the effect of feed (slurry) inlet orientations and gas flow rate on column?s metallurgical performance. The effects of solid particle concentration, size and type (hydrophobic and hydrophilic) of solid on gas dispersion parameters have also been investigated. Test work has been performed in a continuously operating Perspex column (10 cm in diameter and 168 cm in height) using coal, sphalerite and dolomite as solid. Gas hold-up has been measured by phase separation method and mean bubble sizes are estimated from a drift flux analysis. The influence of operating parameters on bubble surface area flux has been discussed. It is observed that gas holdup in collection zone is affected by air as well as feed flow rates and also solid?s type. It is also found that addition of solid decreases the gas holdup and rate of decrease in gas holdup increases when solid concentration increases and particle size increases. Increase in gas flow rate increases recovery in collection zone due to increase in number of bubbles per unit volume of the column. From the experimental results it is evident that cross-current orientation of feed inlet shows slightly better metallurgical performance compared to other orientations. Different methods of utilizing refractory bauxite and disposing red mud are practiced throughout the world, but none of them are known to be environmentally innocuous due to the complexity and /or high cost, and none has been found to be feasible on an industrial scale. Under these conditions, the use of bioleaching process seems promising. The present study emphasizes on the isolation of native extremophiles from the source Indian bauxite and red mud, with their detailed cellular and physio-chemical, and biochemical characterization. These organisms were tested for their ability to thrive in physically or geochemically extreme conditions. The gram positive capsule rich mesophiles and thermophiles were tested for removal of gangue minerals from the bauxite and red mud samples. Cyanide-free technology of complex copper-lead ores flotation may be improved through enlarged range of pH values, enhanced copper recovery into copper concentrates due to additional recovery of secondary copper sulfides, as well as through enhanced efficiency of lead sulfides depression in process of new flotation modifiers-based selective separation. Study of the effects of flotation modifier (of metal nature) on minerals surface conditions proved that the xanthate is practically not adsorbed on the galenite surfaces due to minerals hydrophilization. Joint effects of sodium sulfite and modifier enhance process conditions for intensive galenite depression and at the same time for effective chalcopyrite and chalcosine flotation within a large pH values range (from pH=8 to pH=10). Identified mechanisms carry inference that proposed chemical reagent treating method is very promising for selective copper-lead concentrates separation. Potential use of carbon-containing materials as zinc flotation modifier to enhancing zinc recovery in processes of lead-zinc ores treatment has been studied. In our flotation tests we used Shalkiya (South Kazakhstan) lead-zinc ores containing such impurities as carbon shales, which presence impedes the process of saleable concentrates production and gives rise to excessive consumption of flotation agents due to the xanthate adsorption on the carbon. Lead and zinc concentrates were produced by process stages as follows: ores milled to 95% Cl. -0.074 +0; lead and zinc roughing flotation and further recleaner and testing operations. Test flotation in open process cycle resulted in enhancing zinc recovery into zinc concentrates by 21.1% and increasing zinc content in zinc concentrates by 3.96% that evidences promising potentialities for use of carbon-containing products as additional zinc flotation modifier.
