Elemental sulphur occurs as aformational sedimentary deposit in Upper Devonian Wabamun evaporites near Coronation, Alberta. The deposit developed in a stratigraphic jacies-change lrap; it is assumed that petroleum reacted with anhydrite to form sulphur, calcite, hydrogen sulphide and other reaction products. The deposit contains about 362,800 tonnes of sulphur and lies at a depth of 1200 m. The Coronation deposit is expected to be geologically typical of such other native sulphur deposits as may be found in Wabamun Group sediments. Widespread sour gas sulphur production f rom the Wabamun suggests the possibility that additional native sulphur deposits will ·be found.

"IntroductionTrout Lake Mine is located about 5 km north of the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co., Limited complex at Flin Flon, Manitoba. The mine was brought into production in 1982at the onset of a severe recession in the base metal market. The mine is operated as a joint venture with HBM&S, MMR and SMS.During the first several months of operation it became evident that there were opportunities to reduce costs at the mine significantly, and a productivity improvement subcommittee was formed to make recommendations. The first committee met in January, 1983 and consisted of the mine manager from Hudson Bay Mining, a geological expert and a maintenance expert from Outokumpu Oy, Finland, and a mine manager from Granges, Sweden.Recommendations from this committee were implemented during 1983 and a new subcommittee was constituted in 1984 to continue the work begun the previous year. The committee remains as constituted in 1984 and meets quarterly.The committee consists of M.A . Kirby , manager - Flin Flon Mines, HBM&S; Gustav Hoberstorfer of Mindelco , a Swedish mining consultant retained by Granges; Eero Laatio, mine superintendent of Keretti Mine at Outokumpu Oy in Finland; and Bob Bray, a mining consultant retained by Manitoba Mineral Resources.Many productivity improvements made in the operation are attributed to the work of this committee and other experts retained at various times throughout the mine life."

THE problems relating to the construction and use o{ mining equipment are basically the same as those pertaining to equipment in other industries. It is true that much mining equipment is subjected to an unusually severe combination of shock, high stresses, abrasive wear, and corrosive ? conditions, but in other industries, also, equipment must operate under similar adverse conditions, so that their experiences may readily be applied to the problems of the mining industry. Steel and iron are for obvious reasons the most suitable materials for the construction of the greater part of the equipment used in the mining industry. For a large percentage of uses, the ordinary plain carbon-steels and ordinary or unalloyed cast-iron are, and probably will continue to be for a long rime, entirely satisfactory materials. There are, however, many. conditions which cannot be satisfactorily taken care of by these materials, and alloy steels and irons must be used where the greatest possible economy is desired. In general, alloy steels and irons are used where it is necessary or economically desirable to use materials possessing properties superior to plain carbon-steel or ordinary cast-irons, such as: (a) better strength (b) better wear resistance (c) better corrosion resistance (d) better resistance to high temperatures (e) better resistance to low temperatures or combinations of two or more of these advantages. There are also conditions where materials having other special properties are required, such as, for example, certain magnetic or electrical properties for electrical machinery; but in the great majority of cases, one or more of the five advantages listed are the most desired.

"The Department of Finance introduced draft amendments to the resource allowance regulations on July 23, 1992 that effectively nullify the decision in the Gulf Canada Limited case. Prior to the amendments it appeared that only ""directly"" related general and administrative, capital cost allowance and scientific research expenditures had to be deducted from resource profits. Now ancillary expenditures are required to be deducted. Consequently, the ability of taxpayers to claim the resource allowance is curtailed.IntroductionOn October 25, 1990 it was almost certain that taxable mines were going to get a break. The Federal Court-Trial Division had just decided in Gulf Canada Limited's favour to allow it to claim resource related tax benefits larger than what Revenue Canada evidently wished. Revenue Canada appealed first to the Federal Court of Appeal and then to the Supreme Court of Canada. On January 10, 1992 the Federal Court of Appeal agreed with the Federal Court decision and on July 2, 1992the Supreme Court declined to hear any further appeal. A mere three weeks later, on July 23, 1992, the Department of Finance issued draft ""clarifying"" measures to amend the calculation of the resource allowance. These measures effectively nullify the benefits that arose under the decisions of the Federal Court."

The Diavik Diamond Mine is located in one of the most remote and forbidding places in the world, 220 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle and on the bed of a vast northern lake, Lac de Gras. A single road, built out of ice and crossing frozen lakes, connects the mine with other operations and Yellowknife, the capital of the Canada's Northwest Territories. Diamonds were first discovered in the Lac de Gras region in the early 1990s, and construction of the Diavik Diamond Mine was completed in 2003. Diavik currently mines three kimberlite pipes. Open pit mining has now concluded and all three pipes are mined using underground mining methods. In early 2010, Diavik began mining and processing initial ore from its new underground mine; underground mining operations are expected to continue beyond 2020. The initial mine ventilation system was an exhausting (pull) system with fresh air supplied by a fresh air raise and a main ramp. Return air was exhausted via two raises and a secondary ramp. The system had a total flow capacity approximating 401-411 m3/s. With planned increased production and with changes in mining method, it has been proposed to change the mine ventilation system to a positive (forcing) ventilation system in order to meet projected increases in flow requirements of 566-708 m3/s. Extensive engineering work was developed in order to successfully achieve the changes in system configuration. In the proposed configuration, the main ramp is in an exhaust configuration and exhaust raises are converted to fresh air raise. A number of system implementation options were investigated and phased plans for system execution have been developed. The proposed changes to the ventilation system are substantial and involve extensive construction work. Work was commenced in 2011, each planned phase has been successfully completed to date, and system changes continue today in order to achieve complete system flow reversal and increased flow distribution. This paper details the design of the modified ventilation system and commissioning work which will allow the mine to meet its future production targets.

"Although concentrated efforts have been made to deplete PCB transformers from the Canadian environment, numerous transformers (as well as ballasts, capacitors and magnets) continue to exist throughout the Canadian mining industry. The existing installed base is slowly being phased out as environmental issues come under increasingly high profile. The following article identifies the potential problems of owning PCB transformers and offers some solutions for their removal, disposal and replacement. IntroductionPolychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) are synthetic chemical compounds consisting of chlorine, carbon and hydrogen. PCB was widely used in transformers due to its physical properties, including stability, low flammability and non-conductivity. Use of PCB in electrical equipment has been banned since 1977 when the extent of environmental contamination was discovered.Although PCB’s have been outlawed for use in electrical equipment since the late 1970s, safe storage regulations were not addressed until 1988 when a major spill prompted the federal government eventually to issue the storage of PCB Material Regulations in 1992. These regulations replaced the Interim order of 1988 under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.PCB transformers are usually referred to as askarel filled transformers or as PCB contaminated mineral oil transformers. Askeral transformers were designed to contain high concentration PCB fluids, referred to as askarel. Mineral oil transformers were not designed to have PCB concentrations but were inadvertently contaminated during manufacture or maintenance activities."

The quality of refractory bricks and castables could be determined by direct measurements of their material properties such as elastic properties, porosity, density, etc. using conventional static or non-destructive testing (NDT) dynamic techniques. Quality monitoring of refractory linings is much more challenging and complicated. The static methods require undesirable drilling and sample extractions from the furnace structure. A more desirable alternative is the use of NDT techniques for material quality estimation. The Acousto Ultrasonic-Echo (AU-E) technique is a new stress wave propagation approach for monitoring the quality of refractory linings in operating furnaces. In this paper, the conceptual methodology for the AU-E technique is described, the capabilities and limitations are expanded, and the results from two case studies are discussed.

To meet the increasing demands of the quality and long term stability of technical systems also the applied materials have to full fill higher standards. This is of special importance where the function of a whole system depends on the reliability of the used materials for example for connector systems in automotive, computer and other electronic equipment?s. In most cases for connector systems electro deposited top layers are applied. To improve the quality of the applied layers new electro deposited systems are developed. One important field of research are the development of composite materials as dispersion coatings and multilayer systems. Multilayers are systems with a high number of single inter-layers of different metals or alloys with the wide chance of the alloy composition. As gold is one of the most important contact material for high quality connector systems it is used as basis for the development of multilayer systems. For the electrodeposition of multilayers two different methods can be applied, the single and the dual plating process. As in the dual plating process two different electrolytes are used, the single plating process allows the formation of multilayers from one electrolyte. In the presented research results cobalt and nickel are used besides gold for the formation of the multilayers. The properties of the layers can be influenced in a wide range by the change of electrolyte composition and the process parameters as current density, current waveform, temperature, hydro-dynamic conditions at the electrode surface and by the number and thickness of the inter layers of the deposited materials. The paper describes the fundamentals of the electro deposition of multilayer systems. For the investigation of the properties of the multilayers different techniques are applied. One of the most important parameter are the thickness of the total layer and of the applied sublayers. The thickness of the sublayers can be varied between a few nanometers up to micrometers. The wear resistance, the contact resistance and the plug-in forces are measured as these parameters are important for the technical application of such layers. For the description of the structure composition and surface properties the sample where also investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray-analyses (EDX) and glow discharge optical spectroscopy (GDOS). The paper shows that the deposition of gold based multilayers is possible and that the properties of such systems can be varied in a wide range what opens new fields of applications of such materials.

X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF) is used at various stages of gold refining. Initially, incoming impure gold is analysed for deleterious elements such as As, Cd, Hg, Se, and Te. Based on the levels of these impurities the material can be returned to the client or accepted for refining. XRF is also used to determine the metal concentrations after the impure gold has been melted and sampled. This information is used to assist the final Fire Assay determination of gold and silver. An energy dispersive XRF is used to determine the end point of chlorination refining step.

Anglovaal Minerals acquired the Nkana slag dump from Zambia Consolidated Copper mines (ZCCM) in 1998 and embarked on an ambitious project to pioneer the recovery of cobalt from slag using DC smelting technology. Anglovaal Research Laboratories performed initial pioneering smelting tests in a 250 kW DC furnace over a 3-year period before engaging Mintek for three piloting campaigns at the 1.5 MW level. Mintek had previously developed a reductive smelting process, patented in 1995, using a DC arc furnace for the recovery of cobalt from slags. The results of the pilot-plant test campaigns were used as the basis for engineering the commercial 40 MW operation installed at Chambishi Metals plc in Zambia in 2001. This paper traces the development of understanding of the metallurgical fundamentals ultimately used to predict furnace performance, reviews some of the extreme technical challenges faced, how solutions were identified and highlights some of the critical issues identified during piloting and how these impacted both positively and negatively on the final commercial operation.

"Soil-gas Rn was measured by two types of alpha-particle-track detectors, by emanometry and by counting alpha-activity on Rn-decay-product collectors. Soil samples were analyzed for V by fluorimetric and fission-track methods, their Rn-emanation by decay-product collectors and their total alpha activities with track detectors. The same uranium anomalies were revealed by each method. Fission-track analysis of leaves for V showed only random variations with sampling site, and the Rn emanation of trees and leaves removed from them was barely detectable . The agreement among the other methods is significant, total alpha and collector methods are simple, rapid and useful, and a combination of methods at a site would reveal disequilibrium in the U-decay series if present. Track-Rn measurements are highly reproducible and insensitive to apparatus design and their sensitivity is not enhanced by covering the detectors with thin foil or placing them in large containers.IntroductionIn the past two years , a number of methods of geochemical exploration for uranium have been tested by the authors over the known copper-uranium occurrence at South March, Ontario. This was done partly to compare methods and partly to develop and test new ones. The South march deposit has been described a number of times by others(1,2,3,4). The methods included in this study were the following.Emanometry, Radon in soil gas is measured by pumping the gas into the cell of a scintillation counter or emanometer(5,6). Alpha particles from radon (222Rn) and its decay products (218Po and 214Po) produce scintillations of light in the silver-activated zinc sunphide (ZnS(Ag) covering the walls of the cell. These are counted by a photomultiplier tube and scaler, the count ra sulphide (ZnS(Ag) covering the walls of the cell. "Finding a reliable relationship between fundamental properties of minerals of non-ferrous metals and their ability to float is extremely important. The approach presented in this work allows us to draw predictive models for an effective flotation, suitable choice of reagents regime and expected technological results before the minerals enter the flotation process. Attempts to adjust the technological regime in already begun flotation are often unsuccessful because the basic physicochemical processes have already taken place. Mineral processing can be optimized on the basis of objective and basic parameters, decisive for the efficiency of the process - the state of the surface of the mineral; assessment of: minerals flotation ability, the need to apply and the type of needed pretreatment, and expected technological results. The theoretical foundations of such an approach are presented in the work, as well as supporting them experimental results, and information on practical implementation in lead-zinc and copper-pyrite ores selection.INTRODUCTIONIncreasing impoverishment of ores of nonferrous metals incoming to the flotation and rising costs for obtaining the final product lead to the inevitable question - will the mineral processing process be beneficial economically, technologically feasible and environmentally safe and what is the way to improve its efficiency. Some of the possible solutions are already in practice - new more efficient and less energy consuming flotation machines and equipment, new - more efficient and selective reagents, new combinations of flotation regimens, and so on.Finding a reliable relationship between fundamental properties of minerals of non-ferrous metals (sulphides and oxides - most of them with semiconductor properties) and their ability to float is extremely important. This is the subject of research, started in the 60s of the previous century and continuing to the present day. Such dependence would enable a realistic assessment of flotation ability (flotability) of minerals before their flotation processing. The basic dependence, displayed by the researchers as Hoberg (1975), Chanturia and Shafeev (1977), Chanturia and Lunin (1983), etc., represents a relationship between bulk properties of minerals and their flotability, considering especially the concentration of the main charge carriers, namely electrons or holes. The bulk properties are practically constant for minerals from a given field. But the 'main arena' of the flotation process is actually the mineral surface (Carta, 1970; Rao, Labonte, & Finch, 1992; Panayotov, 1999; Rao, 2003; Hu, Sun & Wang, 2010). Therefore, we introduce a methodology for studying the surface of minerals, which methodology gives the degree of semiconductor bands bending on the surface and respectively - the charge of the mineral surface and its ability to interact with reagent-collector. The latter can be used to select the most optimal reagent for the corresponding mineral."

Steep Rock Resources Inc. owns a calcite quarry property at Tatlock, Ontario, and a calcite processing plant at Perth, Ontario. The Tatlock marble deposit forms part of an extensive series of carbonate rocks of the Grenville Geological Province in the Precambrian Shield of southeastern Ontario. The deposit is very unusual, if not unique, in the Grenville area in its combination of characteristics of large size, whiteness, high calcium content, low magnesium and silica contents, and scarcity of accessory minerals. A major expansion of the fine grind products capacity of the plant was undertaken in 1982 and came on stream in 1983. The expansion provides important operating benefits at the plant: greater flexibility as to the product mix and reduced dependence on the single grinding mill previously in place. The expanded facility consists of prima,y and secondary crushers, a rotary drye,~ a screenhouse producing a range of screen separator grade products, an airswept Raymond Mill, and a pebble mill with integrated air classifiers, product storage bins, bulk, semi-bulk, and bagged product shipping capabilities, road and rail access, and a substantial product warehouse. The expansion was designed to be compatible with a move into ultrafine calcite production, and is capable of supplying the anticipated sales growth within its market area during the next 5 years. Products are exceptionally white, with good chemistry, low abrasion, and consistent quality. Markets range, according to product particle size, from pre-cast concrete aggregate to fillers for coatings, plastic pipe, and compounds.

"ST Equipment & Technology, LLC (STET) has developed a processing system based on tribo-electrostatic belt separation that provides the mineral processing industry a means to beneficiate fine materials with an entirely dry technology. In contrast to other electrostatic separation processes that are typically limited to particles greater than 75 µm in size, the triboelectric belt separator is ideally suited for separation of very fine (<1 µm) to moderately coarse (300 µm) particles with very high throughput. The high efficiency multi-stage separation through internal charging/recharging and recycle results in far superior separations that can be achieved with a conventional single-stage free-fall tribo-electrostatic separator. The triboelectric belt separator technology has been used to separate a wide range of materials including mixtures of glassy aluminosilicates/carbon, calcite/quartz, talc/magnesite, and barite/quartz. Separation results are presented for selected industrial mineral sources. An economic comparison of using the tribo-electrostatic belt separation versus conventional flotation for barite / quartz separation illustrates the advantages of dry processing for minerals.INTRODUCTIONThe lack of access to fresh water is becoming a major factor affecting the feasibility of mining projects around the world. According to Hubert Fleming, former global director for Hatch Water, “Of all the mining projects in the world that have either been stopped or slowed down over the past year, it has been, in almost 100% of the cases, a result of water, either directly or indirectly” (Blin et al., 2013). Dry mineral processing methods offer a solution to this looming problem."

"The Whitehorse Mining Initiative (WMI) brought together all of the key stakeholders in Canada&apos;s mining industry to develop a framework whereby the industry can meet the challenges that it faces into the 21st century. The WMI Accord7 which was signed at the annual Mines Ministers Conference in Victoria, British Columbia, on September 137 1994, touches all of the important issues that confront the industry, including taxation. IntroductionSeptember 13, 1994, was a historical day for Canada&apos;s mining industry. On that day, on the occasion of the annual Mines Ministers Conference in Victoria, British Columbia, the Whitehorse Mining Initiative (WMI) Accord was signed by the leaders of the five principal stakeholders in the industry: industry; government; labour; environmentalists; and aboriginals. The Accord is the culmination of two years of hard work and intense collaboration by these stakeholders. But, the Accord is not the end result. The Accord can better be described as a springboard to a prosperous future for mining in Canada.The WMI had its beginnings at the Mines Ministers Conference in Whitehorse, Yukon, in September 1992 (hence, the name of the initiative). At that time, the mining industry was well aware of the serious challenges facing the industry, including significantly increased competition for mineral investment from other mining countries, coupled with an atmosphere of uncertainty surrounding land access, environmental regulations, and taxation. The diversion of investment abroad was hurting, and would continue to hurt, all Canadians. Something had to be done. At the 1992"

As aircraft age, the extent of interactions between fatigue and other damage mechanisms, such as corrosion and fretting, increases. At present, however, there is no generally accepted methodology within the Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) framework to account for the effects of these interactions on life and the residual strength of aging aircraft components. A comprehensive program is being carried out by the National Research Council Canada in collaboration with Analytical Processes/Engineered Solutions, using the Holistic Structural Integrity Process (HOLSIP) to address time and cyclic load issues. This approach predicts the evolution of a discontinuity state in a material from production to retirement. This paper summarizes the results of a study on the 2024-T3 aluminium alloy in different forms (clad and unclad), thickness, and specimen geometry. This study consisted of identifying the microstructural features associated with crack nucleation sites and relating them to the testing parameters and fatigue life. Several coupons were fabricated and fatigue-tested. The fracture surfaces were carefully examined, and the physical characteristics of the microstructural features found near the crack nucleation sites were analyzed. Effect of stress level, loading direction, coupon geometry and surface condition on the number of crack nucleation sites, and fracture origin size has been discussed. Four distinctive mechanisms were found to be responsible for crack nucleation: for unclad materials constituent particles, oxide residue, surface irregularities and for clad samples the clad layer was the sole fracture origin.

"In order to research temperature field for construction of connecting passage in Metro using artificial freezing method, the finite difference software FLAC3D is employed to numerically simulate construction process of connecting passage. During construction, the overall distribution of temperature field around connecting passage, the relationship between soil temperature and freezing time, the distribution and variation for the thickness of freezing wall are studied from the perspective of numerical analysis. The results show as follows: after 55 days’ freezing, the soil temperature surrounding connecting passage is about -24 oC ~ -28 oC, and the minimum thickness of freezing wall is about 4.0m, which is larger than the design value 3.1m. So construction conditions have satisfied to the excavation of connecting passage and pumping station. During the excavation of connecting passage, soil temperature has almost no obvious change and the thickness of freezing wall remains constant mainly. After 45 days’ normal thawing, the temperature of freezing wall rises 12 oC approximately. And the soil temperature rises faster at the beginning of the normal thawing stage. In the whole process of construction, the frozen area is about 5m outside the edge of connecting passage, and the cooling area is about 10m outside the edge of connecting passage. INTRODUCTIONThe first recorded application of the artificial freezing method is on a mineshaft project in 1862, and it has been widely used in foundation pit engineering, subway tunnels, mine shaft engineering and so on (Wang Zhiliang, 2010; Zhang Juanxia, 2012; Qiu Fan, 2007; Zhou Xiaomin, 1999). This method has many advantages of enhancing soil strength; decreasing permeability and adopting various unstable soils (silt clay, sand, gravel, etc.). It has been applied successfully in metro engineering construction in Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing. According to incomplete statistics, the construction of connecting passage using artificial freezing method accounted for 98% in Shanghai metro (Qiu Fan, 2007)."

"The main object of ore reserve classification is to assess the reliability of an ore reserve estimate. Because traditional classification schemes fail to provide a means of calculating this reliability, the terms &apos;proven "" &apos;probable&apos; and &apos;possible &apos; ore were introduced as an attempt to qualify it.Geostatistics, on its part, allows the quantification of the precision of any ore estimate and thus appears as an appropriate tool for ore reserve classification.However, the problem of fixing quantitative boundaries for ore classes remains. In order to be meaningful, ore class limits based on the degree of reliability should be customized to the commodity, and the type and size of the deposit. In addition, the precision of an ore estimate will be affected by the cut-off grade and the size of selective mining units.IntroductionPrimarily, ore reserve classification should be seen as a communication tool between the geologist and the mining engineer on one hand and the management and policy maker on the other. By classifying ore reserves, the geologist tries to answer the very fundamental question: ""What quantity of metal is there in the ground and how sure am I that it really exists?""The difficult y of quantifying the degree of reliability of reserves has led to the creation of a large suite of terms and definitions, with almost every mining company having its own set of definition standards. As lower-grade deposits are brought into production, the margin of tolerable error in estimates of the grade and tonnage is becoming much narrower. Consequently, the need for unequivocal definition of the reliability of ore reserves is increasingly acute. Most of the generally accepted systems of classification, however, describe the reliability of reserves in qualitative, rather than quantitative, terms."

"A model based control strategy was implemented at Loulo Gold Mine in Mali, to stabilise the thickener underflow stream density. This stream acts as the feed to the leaching circuit. pH control of the leaching circuit was integrated with the model-based controller due to slow process dynamics that are not suited to PID control. The controller performance was quantified over a period of 6 months, and was compared to the performance before implementation. The model based controller reduced process variability for both thickener underflow density and pH considerably, and resulted in a reduction in flocculant and lime consumption of 9.32 and 6.55%, respectively. INTRODUCTION Reagent consumption in gold processing plants significantly contributes to the total operational costs. In a typical Carbon-in-pulp (CIP) circuit, the reagent consumption associated with leaching, adsorption, elution and regeneration contribute to approximately 15% of the total operational costs (Stange, 1999). At Loulo Gold Mine, the reagent consumption associated with leaching, adsorption, elution and regeneration contributes to 6% of the total operational costs. As such, a reduction in reagent consumption will present a significant opportunity for savings on operating expenditure. Variability in feed ore characteristics results in continuous changes in steady state operating regions, which presents process control challenges as a result of the long residence times in some of the process units associated with gold processing plants. Overdosing often occurs in the presence of process variability to ensure safe operation and to maintain recovery targets. As a means of reducing reagent consumption and accounting for significant changes in the feed to gold plants, some of the plants have resorted to improving their process control strategies around their circuits. "This chapter outlines the organization of mine/ mill complexes in Canadian mining companies. Many factors unique to the Canadian mining industry will affect the design of the organization in the future: geographic location, the size and the type of orebody, etc. Mining companies cannot choose where new operations will be located, that is dictated by the location of the orebody. New mines are seldom started near established communities. Rather, the towns usually grow up near the mines. The remoteness of most Canadian mining operations has caused severe problems in attracting and/ or retaining all levels of employees. This means that training has a high priority within each operation.Another factor affecting mine/ mill organizations is the size of the operation. Larger operations generally require more departments and increased specialization to manage equipment and manpower effectively. Thus, for mine/mill complexes, organizational charts are less standardized than in other industries. It is often necessary to organize around the work force rather than develop a chart and then acquire the trained personnel to fill the diagrammed positions.The information presented in this chapter has been derived from the responses received from a survey of Canadian mining operations.Principles of OrganizationOrganization can be defined as deployment of personnel to accomplish definite goals. In the mining industry, the major goals are typically the projected number of tons and grade of ore mined on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. Organizing involves establishment of authority relationships with provisions for both vertical and horizontal co-ordination within the company structure. Vertical co-ordination is the delegation of responsibility and communication of goals and reporting of progress between the supervisor and subordinate. Horizontal co-ordination is communication between departments at positions of equal authority to determine methods of achieving predefined goals. The organization structure must reflect the objectives and plans of the company, and must clearly define areas of authority.Two criteria for effective organization are departmentalization and manpower planning."
