The Voisey’s Bay deposit contains a trace amount of cadmium, which reports to solution during pressure leaching of the nickel concentrate at Vale’s Long Harbour Hydrometallurgy Plant, and must be removed to produce high quality nickel cathode. In 2006, Vale approached Sherritt Technologies to collaborate on the development of a process for removing cadmium to low levels (<1 mg/L) in the nickel raffinate. Following successful bench scale and pilot plant testing at Sherritt’s laboratories, the cadmium removal process was then moved through engineering and construction, culminating in the successful commissioning and startup of a cadmium removal circuit at the Long Harbour Hydrometallurgy Plant in 2017. This paper presents the results of this collaboration and the challenges that were encountered through each stage of development, as well as current results from operation of the commercial cadmium removal circuit. INTRODUCTION Vale’s Long Harbour Processing Plant, with a nameplate capacity of 50,000 t/y nickel, began operation in 2014. In addition to electrolytic nickel rounds, the plant also produces electrolytic cobalt rounds and copper cathode. The Long Harbour Processing Plant uses a unique hydrometallurgical process developed by Vale Base Metals Technology Centre, as shown in Figure 1, to treat a nickel sulphide concentrate produced at the Voisey’s Bay mine and mill located in northern Labrador (VBN concentrate) (Stevens et al., 2009).

Under the requirement to define the economic advantages of using hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, a broad-scoped project was initiated to quantify the costs associated with operating fuel cell vehicles and diesel vehicles. While ventilation savings are clearly an advantage for the former, a complete and detailed analysis of this and other operational and capital cost elements was undertaken in order to provide the mining industry with factual information in considering the changeover from one technology to another. This paper outlines the results of the investigations to date defining the costs/benefits associated with capital purchases, operations (electrical/diesel, mine air heating fuel, ventilation, openings, surface and underground infrastructure, maintenance, labour, etc.), delivery of energy, regulatory obligations, and mine production. Considerations are given to the type and size of a mining operation, the depth, and location in North America. Significant ventilation power, equipment, and infrastructure savings are possible with the application of fuel cells for shallower mine applications. At depth, where heat is an issue, there is a reduction in benefit. Specific qualifiers such as minimum air velocities, dust dilution, shaft, and heating system velocity limits must be considered on an individual mine basis. While the capital cost for fuel cell mining equipment is currently higher than diesel versions, the high cost of fuel cells is anticipated to be reduced significantly in the near future with the intensification of manufacturing. In either case, the operational savings would probably be sufficient to balance the supplementary capitalization costs. Comprehensive reports have been issued.

"In January 1983, Gibraltar Mines Ltd. started an exploratory program on Column Flotation with hopes of improving performance of the Molybdenum Cleaning circuit. The encouraging results led to a column test trial in the Bulk Copper Cleaner circuit where the test unit has per¬formed well. A program was undertaken to understand the mechanics of column operation. A year and a half later, Gibraltar is considering the replacement of existing Bulk Copper and Moly Cleaning flotation cells with a fully computer con¬trolled Column Flotation circuit.BRIEF SUMMARY OF TESTWORKInitial testwork was done with a home made 20 inch diameter x 31 foot high column, equipped with a doppler flow-meter at the tail line and automatic level conrol. This loop maintained constant level in the column by throttling the tail valve. This column was placed in a variety of locations around the Moly circuit as shown on Figure 1 a, b. Test re¬sults indicated that the column could achieve much higher grades than the conventional cells, but recovery wise, the performance was low. Spillages from overloaded pump boxes were a common frustration during this time.Column control strategy was reviewed; and, in light of information received from McGill University, changed to conform with the methods that had been employed by D. Wheeler, of the Column Co. of Canada4 and Gaspe Copper Mines3.The column was tested replacing a portion of the bank, figure lc. The results obtained were more or less equal to the circuit. However, as we had Nitrogen gas connected to the column and not the regular cells, the column was kept in service. With the use of Nitrogen in the column, the usual copper depressant, Sodium Cyanide could be replaced with Sodium Hydrosulphide, hence lower operating cost.As time went on, a 10 inch diameter column was added in series to re-treat the concentrate of the 20 inch diameter column with hopes that the copper content would decrease from 0.6% down to 0.3% in order to save on subsequent leach¬ing costs. So far, results indicate there has been some im-provement, hut we are not achieving 0.3% copper. (See figure 1d)."

The CIM Estimation of Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves Best Practice Guidelines (MRMR Best Practice Guidelines) were prepared by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum's (CIM) Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves Committee (CIM MRMR Committee) to update an earlier version that was accepted by CIM Council on November 23, 2003 (CIM, 2003). These 2019 MRMR Best Practice Guidelines supersede and replace the November 23, 2003 version of the MRMR Guidelines. These 2019 MRMR Guidelines are not intended to be prescriptive and are not intended to provide detailed and exhaustive instructions for preparation of Mineral Resource and/or Mineral Reserve (MRMR) estimates. Rather, they are intended as general guidance to assist professional geoscientists (or equivalent) and engineers (or equivalent) in preparing high quality estimates of MRMR that incorporate sound geoscientific, engineering, evaluation and design practices. They are based on well-established estimation and mine planning principles and are designed to provide general guidelines of best professional practices employed in the preparation of MRMR estimates. Although the 2019 MRMR Best Practice Guidelines are intended for use by Canadian-based mining/exploration practitioners, many of the concepts and practices presented herein are in general agreement with current industry practices in jurisdictions with membership in the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO). For this document, persons preparing MRMR estimates are called Practitioners. Preparation of MRMR estimates should be carried out by Practitioners who either hold the status of Professional Geoscientist (or equivalent) or Professional Engineer (or equivalent), or who prepare the estimates under the supervision of a Professional Geoscientist (or equivalent) or Professional Engineer (or equivalent). For the purposes of this document, all references to reporting describe such necessary reports and related documentation that are created as part of the normal-course work flow of preparing MRMR estimates for internal purposes. For clarity, all public disclosure of MRMR estimates made by, or on behalf of, an issuer and intended to be, or reasonably likely to be, made available to the public in a jurisdiction of Canada must comply with the requirements of National Instrument 43-101 Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects (NI 43-101), as amended from time to time. At least one Qualified Person (QP) must take responsibility for each part of the estimation process when publicly disclosing the results of MRMR estimates. The intended audience for these 2019 MRMR Best Practice Guidelines includes Practitioners at all levels of skill and experience, government agencies, academic institutions, and the public.

"A flotation bank consists of a serial arrangement of cells. How to optimally operate a bank remains a challenge. This article reviews three strategies for optimizing bank performance: air profiling, mass-pull (froth velocity) profiling and Peak Air Recovery (PAR) profiling. These are all ways of manipulating the recovery profile down a bank, which may be the property being exploited. Mathematical analysis has shown that a flat cell-by-cell recovery profile maximizes the separation of two floatable minerals for a given target bank recovery when the relative floatability is constant down the bank. Available bank survey data is analyzed in respect to recovery profiling. Possible variations on recovery profile to minimize entrainment are discussed.INTRODUCTION Flotation is used to separate valuable minerals from each other and from gangue. To reach a target metallurgical performance, usually assessed in terms of concentrate grade and recovery, feed is passed through stages such as roughing, cleaning and scavenging. All these stages comprise serial arrangements of flotation cells known as banks, lines or rows. Although a bank is the simplest interconnection of cells in a circuit, i.e. the tails of one cell is the feed to the next cell down the bank, how to operate each flotation cell in a way that the whole bank performance is optimized remains a challenge. Significant efforts have been made towards understanding the effect of operating variables on the flotation performance of an isolated cell (Lynch et al., 1981; Finch and Dobby, 1990; Gorain et al., 1998). However in the case of banks the variables that can be manipulated increase with the number of cells in the bank and the problem of how to manipulate them to achieve optimum performance is difficult even disregarding variation in ore characteristics (Lynch et al., 1981, p. 16). In general, the more manipulated variables available the better for optimization purposes, however without clear guidance how to effectively use them it becomes an “embarrassment of riches”."

"Gold cyanidation rates are known to be limited by the rate of oxygen dissolution in the cyanidation tanks. The effect of solids loading on the oxygen dissolution rates is not obvious and the results of previous studies are ambiguous. The present paper presents an analysis of oxygen dissolution rates using a ""spent"" commercial gold slurry diluted to various levels of solids loading. It was found, in an 170 litre stirred tank reactor using an inverted cone sparger, that under certain high loading conditions, there was a decrease of as much as 50 %, i.e., there was a halving of the rate of oxygen dissolution as compared to that in clean water. In particular, it was observed that, due to gas flooding of the impeller, there was a drop in kLa even with an increase of gas velocity. Gas holdup reached a maximum value of only 1.7 %. The total power consumption was between 0.06- 0 .10 kw/m3 within the range of gas velocity before flooding occurred. The decrease in oxygen dissolution rate with increased solids loadings is believed to be mainly due to the increase in the apparent viscosity which reduced the turbulence and shearing effect and resulted in larger bubbles and hence reduced the reaction area a. The interrelations between solids loading, gas holdup, flow pattern, power consumption, and liquid mass transfer coefficient are discussed.IntroductionThe reactors generally used in gold cyanidation are Stirred Tank Reactors (STR). Compared with other types of reactors like fluidized bed reactor and column reactor, STR is of particular importance due to its wide application in industry. "The Yukon's numerous (185) placer gold mines are still a major social and economic force in this developing economy. Gold recovery at each of the various sluiceboxes is not optimized due to extremely difficult sampling logistics and a shortage of technical expertise and industrial research.At each of six operating placer mines, numerous sluicebox tailings samples were collected with hand held sample cutters and combined into large (2-7 cubic yards) duplicate samples. The entire sample volumes were screened and processed on a shaking table to determine gold losses. "Four occurrences of galena-cemented sandstones, exposed in the Lower St. Lawrence - Gaspésie area, are described. They constitute a new, insufficiently explored type of deposit in Quebec.One mineralized body, a minor occurrence, is hosted in Lower Devonian rocks deposited in an estuarine, intertidal river channel during a marine regression; major cements are dolomite and sulphides. Another occurrence, a drilled prospect, is hosted in Upper Silurian rocks deposited unconformably on Cambro Ordovician basement during a marine transgression. With galena and quartz as main cementing minerals, it is similar to some well-known, economic sandstone-lead deposits. A third and fourth, a drilled prospect and a minor occurrence, are hosted in Upper Cambrian rocks deposited on continental slopes. In both, sulphides mainly occupy a secondary porosity. The differences between the third and fourth occurrences are: (1) cementing translucent minerals (carbonates and barite in one; chlorite in the other); (2) chronology of final subsurface dissolution (prior and subsequent to sulphide precipitation, respectively); and (3) important fracture porosity only in the barite-bearing deposit.The diversity of the four occurrences, and the unequal geological knowledge of their respective features, prohibit the formulation of uniform guidelines for further exploration.IntroductionThe attention of the mineral exploration community is drawn to four occurrences of galena-cemented sandstones (Fig. 2A) in the Cambrian of the Taconian Orogen and in the Siluro-Devonian basin of the Lower St. Lawrence and Gaspésie area (Fig. 1). In view of the fact that sandstone-lead deposits (Bjerlykke and Sangster, 1981) are, or have been, mined in several countries (e.g . Laisvall in Sweden: see Rickard et al., 1979; Largentiere in France: see Foglierini et al., 1980), the mere presence of occurrences in Quebec indicates that the mineral potential of some parts of the Appalachians requires further evaluation.Exploration for the deposits considered here is essentially restricted to geological methods and drilJing (e.g . Mainguet Suares and Samama, 1969), since the response to geophysical methods is virtually nil, at least in the initial, surficial stage of an exploration program. As the particular disciplines of geology utilized in exploration depend a great deal on the geological setting of a mineral occurrence, the diversity of the Quebec deposits is of prime importance. Therefore, the four occurrences (Fig. I, Table 1) studied by the authors are herein briefly described with emphasis on their stratigraphic and tectonic setting, and on the evolution of pore space and sequential occlusion of pores and fractures. "The worldwide demand of ores and the depletion of the high-purity deposits make it necessary to recover ores in increasingly finer size fractions in the feed material. The flotation technology of more than 40 years old plants was not able to recover the ultra fine material. Those slurry tailings ponds now have the chance to be re-processed with PNEUFLOT® technology.The bubble sizes of different flotation technologies have a huge influence of the results especially regarding the recovery of the ultra fine particle sizes.PNEUFLOT® technology of HUMBOLDT WEDAG Coal & Minerals Technology GmbH in Germany was applied to ultra fine Phosphate, Copper and Platinum ores. The results will be presented in this paper.Conventional technology like agitator flotation has its limits in the flotation of fines due to turbulences in the cell. The position of the agitator influences the recovery of the fines. A deep impeller generates a higher froth zone. This helps to catch the medium fines. Due to the static head of the slurry inside the cell, compressed air is required for such cell designs.Column flotation is well known for a good selectivity without having in the first cell a good recovery. This leads to invest in several cleaning stages to reach an acceptable recovery. Further more, compressed air is required to generate the air bubbles to the flotation process, which are much bigger than with PNEUFLOT® technology applied.INTRODUCTIONHigh metal prices are actually the basis to invest in poor deposits or deposits with very fine intergrown ores which have to be milled down to ultra fine powders less than 60 micron. The liberation grade has to be determined by a mineralogical analysis. Polish sections have to be prepared and interpreted by using of a microscope. Figure 1 and figure 2 are showing polish sections of a platinum-nickel ore from Petchenga Nickel at Zapolyarni Mine in Russia. The head grades for rich ore are for copper between 0.05 – 0.15%, for nickel between 3 – 7% and for platinum group minerals approx. 0.15 oz/t. With an efficient flotation technology it can be upgraded to 20 oz/t."

"A new device has been developed to directly measure the bubble loading of particle-bubble aggregates in industrial flotation machines, both mechanical flotation cells as well as flotation column cells. The bubble loading of aggregates allows for in-depth analysis of the operating performance of a flotation machine in terms of both pulp/collection zone and froth zone performance. This paper presents the methodology along with an example showing the excellent reproducibility of the device and an analysis of different operating conditions of the device itself.The device has been used to investigate the froth selectivity of attached particles. Simultaneous measurements were made using a different froth recovery measurement technique in the same flotation cell. A comparison of these techniques shows that in this case, particles are selectively detached from bubbles at or near the pulp-froth interface.INTRODUCTIONA flotation cell can be considered to operate in two distinct phases or zones; namely the pulp or collection phase and the froth phase. The pulp zone is responsible for the formation of hydrophobic particle-bubble aggregates, whilst the froth phase is responsible for the separation of these aggregates from surrounding suspended hydrophobic and hydrophilic particles. Thus, the froth phase is the grade determining phase in flotation. A measurement of the bubble load (the mass of particles attached to air bubbles in units of mass/volume) will enable the analysis of the performance of both the collection zone at creating bubble-particle aggregates and also the froth zone at separating these aggregates from surrounding pulp.A measure of froth zone performance that has been used extensively in flotation research is the Froth Recovery, Rf, of a particular system. Froth recovery is defined as the mass of particles collected in the concentrate launder by true flotation as a fraction of the mass of particles entering the froth phase. The measurement of bubble load allows for this term to be calculated easily, rather than having to go through the laborious task of, for example, changing froth depths to determine this performance criterion (Contini et al., 1988; Vera et al., 1999b; Feteris et al., 1987)."

"A computer simulation model of a dragline has beer developed for the study of alternative dragline deployment schemes for varying geological and mining conditions. In this paper, the mathematical aspects of the model, the input data and output results are discussed. An application of the model to a coal mine in eastern Kentucky is presented.IntroductionDraglines are very productive machines. To extend their operating ranges, they are operated in several modes such as advance benching, key cut, extended benching and pullback. Unfortunately, these variations result in low machine productivities. Appropriate methods to operate these machines must be developed on the basis of detailed analyses of dragline performance under varying geological and mining conditions. There are several standard engineering procedures for the selection of dragline, and design of a dragline pit (Ramani, Iroegbu and Manula, 1976). However, the complex interrelationship which exists among equipment, methods and natural conditions can be quantified only through orderly and systematic experiments.Computer simulation is well suited to studying these types of equipment selection and method layout problems. Several alternatives can be analyzed in a relatively short time by the modification of input variables. Also, the application of computer simulation models can significantly reduce the manpower and cost required for such analysis."

Mineral aggregate, the most widely used mineral resource globally, has attracted little academic or public interest. Of all mining developments, the aggregate resource is seldom factored into resource management decisions. This lack of recognition to the strategic aggregate resource has significant economic, environmental, and social implications. Impact to the economics, the environment, and the community coincide with the key elements of the United Nations concept of ?sustainable development?. To build on the concept, the mining sector contracted the International Institute for Environment and Development to assess how mining activity contributes to sustainability. As a result, a useful assessment process was developed by the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development (MMSD) Task Group entitled ?Seven Questions to Sustainability: How to Assess the Contribution of Mining and Mineral Activities.? In Alberta, recent opposition to mineral resource development by community residents offers an opportunity to employ the MMSD?s assessment procedure. The public opposition to the mining activity was addressed through a stakeholder planning process initiated by the municipal council of Sturgeon County, Alberta. As a result the Calahoo/Villeneuve Area Structure Plan (CASP) was formulated and adopted. To measure the effectiveness of the CASP planning process in terms of sustainability, this paper applies the MMSD?s Seven Question assessment to the Calahoo/Villeneuve Area Structure Plan.

"Chile based SQM S.A., exploits potassium chloride rich salts at the Salar de Atacama, in northern Chile. The process includes the solar evaporation of natural brines existing in the Salar salt bed, followed by conventional flotation to recover Muriate of Potash (MOP) for fertilizer use.This paper describes a structured method developed to aid in understanding the metallurgical response of the solar evaporated salts to conventional flotation. The method uses classical metallurgical data analysis combined with laboratory and plant-scale testing, and rudimentary mineralogical studies.As a result of the study, several changes were made to the flotation circuit which produced an operation that is much more consistent and easier to control, and has an increased recovery. An optimized circuit, currently being financially evaluated, has also been conceptually designed based on the findings of this work.INTRODUCTIONSQM S.A. is the world’s largest producer and distributor of specialty fertilizers, iodine, lithium, as well as a wide array of industrial and specialty chemicals. SQM is a public corporation whose shares are traded in the Santiago and the New York Stock Exchanges.SQM S.A. exploits the mineral rights at the Salar de Atacama in northern Chile. "Hydrophobic polystyrene nanoparticle suspensions were evaluated as potential flotation collectors for pentlandite. Experiments involving both clean model mineral suspensions and complex ultramafic nickel ores confirmed that conventional water-soluble molecular flotation collectors such as xanthate could be partially or completely replaced by hydrophobic nanoparticle flotation collectors. The ability of nanoparticles to induce flotation was demonstrated by floating hydrophilic, negatively charged glass beads with cationic polystyrene nanoparticle collectors. Electrostatic attraction promoted the spontaneous deposition of the nanoparticles on the glass surfaces raising the effective contact angle sufficiently high to promote the adhesion of beads to air bubbles. As little as 10% coverage of the bead surfaces with our most effective nanoparticles could promote high flotation efficiencies, whereas conventional small molecular flotation collector requires ~ 20% or higher coverage for a good recovery. Surface functionalized nanoparticles enhanced the ability for nanoparticle collectors to selectively deposit onto surfaces of the desired mineral particles in the presence of gangue. For example, poly (styrene-co-vinylimidazole) nanoparticles were designed to selectively deposit onto nickel mineral (pentlandite) in the presence of Mg/Si slime. Flotation tests of ultramafic nickel ores at Vale with these nanoparticle collectors have shown improvements in both pentlandite recovery and selectivity. On-going work includes attempts to identify specific applications where nanoparticle flotation collectors might be cost effective.INTRODUCTION Most mineral processing operations include multiple stages of froth flotation to concentrate and isolate the desired product. Before flotation, chemical collectors are routinely added to ground ore slurries, selectively binding to mineral-rich particles, increasing their hydrophobicity thus promoting selective flotation. (Fuerstenau, Jameson, & Yoon, 2007) Conventional collectors are surfactants with a short hydrocarbon tail and a head group, such as xanthate. A typical conventional collector is potassium amyl xanthate (PAX), which is a small molecule with an extended molecular length of about 1 nm. Critical characteristics of a good collector include the ability to selectively adsorb onto desired mineral surfaces and to lower the water/mineral surface energy. Despite the extensive role of flotation in mineral processing, some ores are difficult to process by flotation. For example, ultramafic nickel sulfide ore containing both valuable pentlandite and large quantities of unwanted Mg/Si slime [primarily serpentine, (MgFe)3Si2O5(OH)4] responds poorly to flotation. (Mani, Xu, Quinn, & Stratton-Crawley, 1997) Fibrous hydrophilic Mg/Si slime usually masks the surface of pentlandite (known as “slime coating”) due to electrostatic interaction (Edwards, Kipkie, & Agar, 1980) and dramatically depresses pentlandite flotation. Consequently, new approaches are required for processing these difficult ores."

"Galmoy Mine, owned by Arcon Mines Limited, has operated since 1997, and is one of three operating lead/zinc mines in Ireland. Changes in ore type starting in mid 2002 created challenges to metallurgical operations at Galmoy. This resulted in unacceptable lead and zinc flotation performance, which prompted initiation of a formal plant review and a subsequent stabilization programme. This involved a structured review of operational practices, development of a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) which in turn led to significant changes in process control equipment needs in conjunction with extension of zinc flotation cell residence time.This paper will describe the metallurgy of the Galmoy operation. Reasons for the poor metallurgy experienced in 2002 will be described, as well as the solutions identified to overcome these problems. By the second quarter of 2003, these solutions had been implemented and recoveries had risen to record levels.INTRODUCTIONGeneralGalmoy Concentrator is located in County Kilkenny (Refer to Figure 1 below) and was constructed during 1996 and commissioned in 1997.The concentrator at Galmoy had been designed initially to treat 650,000 tonnes per annum of primarily CW ore type. The main mineral of economic significance was sphalerite (Typically 10 to 11% Zn) with some minor galena (0.7%Pb) in a dolomite (Magnesium Carbonate) host rock.The only other competing sulphide mineral was pyrite (Circa 3 to 5% Fe in Mill Feed. This CW ore type predominated the first 6 years of production, but in August 2002, the ore mineralogy changed due to significantly higher levels of pyrite rich G ore body being blended in with CW ore."

"While pipeline hydrotransport is often the most economical way to transport large volumes of mineral concentrate, tailings, or fine ore slurry over long distances, it is in mountainous terrain that pipelining becomes particularly attractive. These areas are often remote, with limited existing infrastructure and few potential users willing to share in the cost of new infrastructure. The rugged terrain makes the construction of railways or roads suitable for haul trucks difficult and expensive. The elevation difference between the mine and the terminal means that the empty trains or haul trucks need to return up-hill, resulting in high fuel costs. With pipelines, this elevation difference may reduce or even eliminate the need for pumping. As a result, numerous pipelines have been built, or are being considered, in mountainous regions around the world including: Tasmania, New Guinea, China, Madagascar, the Rockies of North America, and the Andes of South America. However, there are technical difficulties that need to be overcome in the design and operation of mountain pipelines that do not affect pipelines on more level terrain. This presentation reviews some of these difficulties and methods used to overcome them.INTRODUCTIONPipeline transport of solid-liquid slurry (“hydrotransport”) is an important and cost-effective means of transporting large volumes of solids over long distances, especially from a single supplier to a single user (e.g., a concentrator to a port, a concentrator to a tailings dam, or a coal mine to a power plant). "The Main zone of the Clarence Stream gold deposit is hosted by a shear zone adjacent to the Saint George batholith in southwestern New Brunswick. The mineralization history relates to progressive deformation in the shear zone and the intrusion of the Magaguadavic granodiorite.Of three phases of deformation that have affected the area (D1-D3), D1 is not observed in the Clarence Stream shear zone. Two suites of igneous rocks intrude the shear zone: post-D2, pre-D3 gabbro; and granitic dikes, which crosscut the gabbros. Granitic dikes show a diverse range of relationships to D3 features, from pre-syn-D3 mylonitic fabrics in transposed and highly deformed enclaves, to nondeformed and entirely discordant dikes (post-D3).A variety of veins occur within this shear zone. Zoisite-bearing and later, crosscutting epidote-bearing veins are preserved as relics in quartz-mylonites, and predate quartz veins that host gold mineralization. The epidote-bearing veins are associated with pseudotachylitic cataclasite dikes, consistent with transient brittle failure during ductile deformation.Deformation relates to right-lateral strike-slip motion across the shear zone, and subhorizontal and near-vertical stretching lineations imply transpression. A late (late- or post-D3) dip-slip phase of motion is also apparent, and cooling followed a metamorphic peak early in D2-D3 history. Deformation of the shear zone, and more localized transient brittle failure, provided the permeability for fluid movement and vein emplacement. This scenario is similar to the findings of other studies, in which geochemical, tracer isotopic, and age-dating (U/Pb, 40Ar/39Ar) results suggest that the adjacent Magaguadavic granodiorite provided heat and metals. L’historique de la mise en place de la minéralisation accorde un rôle important à la déformation progressive dans la zone de cisaillement et à la mise en place de la granodiorite de Magaguadavic.Des trois phases de déformation à avoir affecté la région (D1-D3), les effets de D1 ne sont pas observés dans la zone de cisaillement de Clarence Stream. Deux suites de roches ignées se sont mises en place dans cette zone de cisaillement : un gabbro post D2, pré-D3 et des dykes granitiques qui recoupent le gabbro. Les dykes granitiques montrent une grande diversité de relations avec les structures D3, allant de précoces à synchrones aux fabriques mylonitiques D3 dans des enclaves transportées et fortement déformées à des dykes complètement discordants et non déformés (post-D3).On note diverses veines dans cette zone de cisaillement. Des veines contenant de la zoisite ainsi que des veines d’épidote sécantes plus tardives, lesquelles sont préservées comme reliquats dans les mylonites à quartz et sont plus vieilles que les veines de quartz contenant la minéralisation aurifère. Les veines d’épidote sont associées à des dykes de catacalasite à texture de pseudotachylite, compatibles avec une rupture cassante épisodique durant la déformation ductile.La déformation résulte d’un mouvement décrochant dextre le long de la zone de cisaillement et les linéations d’étirement subhorizontales et quasi-verticales impliquent de la transpression. Une phase tardive (tardi- ou post-D3) de mouvement selon le pendage est aussi apparente, et le refroidissement succède à un pic métamorphique tôt dans l’histoire D2-D3. La déformation de la zone de cisaillement et la rupture cassante épisodique ont fourni la perméabilité nécessaire au mouvement des fluides et à la mise en place des veines. Ce scénario est similaire à celui proposé par d’autres études, dans lesquelles les résultats de géochimie, de traceurs isotopiques et de géochronologie (U/Pb, 40Ar/39Ar) suggèrent que la granodiorite de Magaguadavic avoisinante a fourni la chaleur et les métaux."
