Large-scale continuous ?Resin-In-Pulp? process tests were conducted at Irgiredmet. The object for testing was the sample of oxidized gold ore from one of Siberian deposit. Weak-base ion ex-change resin PuroGold was used as adsorbent. The duration of ?Resin-In-Pulp? tests was sufficient for a completing of three cycles ?Adsorption/Elution?. Gold in feed was 0.95 mg/L. Gold in solid phase of adsorption tails? 0.065 g/t. Gold in liquid phase of adsorption tails? 0.026 mg/L. Total gold in adsorption tails ?0.11 g/t. Gold recovery ?94.3 %. The use of regenerated resin had practically no effect on gold losses with adsorption tails. Alkaline cyanide solution (NaCN-20g/L, NaOH- 5g/L) was used as eluent for gold elution from loaded resin. Elution temperature ?60 °C. Number of eluent bed volumes passed ?10. Loaded resin analysis was following (g/ton): Au? 1700~1250; Ag? 400~460; Cu? 250~450; Zn? 5100~9600; Fe? 860~1200. Elution efficiency: Au? 95.3%~97.8%; Ag? 84.0%~88.0%; Cu? 84.0%~88.0%; Zn? 97.0%~99.0%. Although high zinc resin loading was shown zinc was eluted efficiently. The adsorption properties of fresh PuroGold resin, PuroGold resin after 3 cycle ?Adsorp-tion-Elution?cycles in comparison with AM-2B resin were tested. It was shown from adsorption isotherms that selectivity of PuroGold resin slightly less in comparison with AM-2B resin mainly due to its higher zinc adsorption properties. It was founded on base of test results that adsorption properties of PuroGold resin was practically constant during three ?Adsorption/Elution? cycles. Gold may be efficiently recovered by resin tested. There were no difficulties during gold elution from loaded resin and its regeneration. PuroGold resin was recommended for industrial use in RIP process. Process design criteria were developed and plant design is on progress at the moment.

"Relating flotation performance to the electrochemical characteristics of a pulp is complex both in fundamental research and in practice. In the case of thiol collectors, different Eh values in the flotation system can result in the formation of the dimer or the metal thiolate which may or may not enhance the hydrophobicity of the mineral. Reducing or oxidizing conditions in a flotation system, viz. changing the Eh value, are usually manipulated to achieve an optimum flotation response by control of pH and dissolved oxygen levels in the system. A variation in pulp potential may also be achieved by the addition of potential modifiers such as sodium hydrosulphide (NaHS), sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) or hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). There exists anecdotal evidence which suggests that the addition of small amounts of H2O2 to the flotation process can improve sulphide mineral recovery. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of the addition of the potential modifier, H2O2, on sulphide mineral recoveries and grades in the flotation of sulphide minerals from two copper bearing ores from China and compare the results to those obtained for a PGM bearing ore South Africa. Batch flotation tests were conducted using the three different ores at the natural pH of the different systems, in the presence of a xanthate collector and the absence and presence of H2O2 as a potential modifier. The results indicate that the addition of carefully controlled low concentrations of H2O2 resulted in improvements in flotation performance. INTRODUCTIONElectrochemical potential as a control parameter in the flotation of sulphide minerals has been widely studied (Allison et al., 1972; Gardner and Woods, 1979; Ross and Van Deventer, 1985; Chander, 2003; Woods, 2003; Javadi, 2013). There is concensus that in order to be recovered during flotation, sulphide minerals require a suitable redox environment. During the flotation process thiol collectors and sulphide minerals are involved in electrochemical reactions which result in the formation of hydrophobic species at the mineral surface (Finkelstein and Goold, 1972; Rand and Woods, 1984). Sulphide minerals act as semiconductors and electrons are transferred during the interaction of the mineral with collector. The resultant potential difference and its magnitude are responsible for the transfer of electrons and the rate of the reaction (Bard and Faulkner, 2001; Fuerstenau et al., 2007). Reducing or oxidizing conditions in a flotation system, viz. changing the Eh value, may be manipulated to achieve an optimum flotation response by control of pH and dissolved oxygen levels in the system (Heyes and Trahar, 1979). The use of potential modifiers viz. reducing or oxidizing agents which include H2O2, NaClO, and NaHS, is an alternative method by which to control the potential of the pulp in a flotation system which may or may not promote the flotation of desired minerals (Rao, 2004). The oxidizing agent, H2O2, undergoes a cathodic reaction which can result in the enhanced flotation of valuable minerals. The potential of the system is increased which results in a shift in the mixed potential of a mineral. The magnitude of the over-potential influences the rate of the oxidation process and thus the flotation response of sulphide minerals (Kocabag and Guler, 2008). Equation 1 shows the proposed oxidation of xanthate by H2O2 (Lipkina and Streltysn, 1970)."

Biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. In this study, the adsorption properties of nonliving (boiling in NaOH) biomass of phanerochaete chrysosporium. For Pb (II) and Zn (II) were investigated by using batch adsorption techniques. The effects of initial metal ion concentration, initial pH, biosorbent concentration, stirring speed, effect of temperature and contact time on biosorption efficiency were studied. Experimental results indicated that the uptake capacity and adsorption yield of one metal ion were reduced by the presence of the other metal ion. In the experiments the optimum pH value was found out 6.0. The experimental adsorption data were fitted to the Langmuir and Frundlich adsorption models. The highest metals uptake was calculated for Zn (II) and Pb (II) were 57 and 87 respectively. desorption of heavy metal ions was performed by 50 mM HNO3 solution. The results indicated that the biomass of p.chrysosporium is a suitable biosorbent for removing heavy metals ion from aqueous solution.

The Cu-Co ore studied here belongs to the oxide type. The oxidation rates of copper and cobalt are69.30% and 78.78%, respectively. The content of Cu in ROM is 1.34% and that of Co is 0.096%. The ore contains 4.64% carbon.Based on the process mineralogy and previous metallurgy tests, the principalprocess flow-sheet of ?grinding fines 80% -0.074mm, sulphide flotation followed by oxide flotation, and flash flotation for oxides? has been determined.The handling of carbon is determined through tests. The depressant PNL-1 depressed carbon effectively, improved the recovery of sulphide minerals and reduced the reagents consumption.The operation of the flow-sheet was also changed to better at the same time. Spherical grinding media (balls) are the most widely used media for comminution of ores by grinding. A modelling simulation study of the behavior of two grinding media in the grinding process was conducted to determine the possible advantages of the new shape milling bodies called tetraballpebs. Tetraballpebs are in the shape of tetrahedrons with spherical convex walls. A three dimensional CAD model of the mill drum with a diameter of 1200 mm was used. A continuous operating mode was simulated in terms of the 3D contact elements of the model (milling bodies and mill drum). Simulation tests were carried out in a typical grinding mode and at a typical rotational speed of the drum mill (75 per cent of the critical speed in cataracting mode). Studies carried out with both grinding media include equal number of milling bodies with the same weight and volume. Having thus ensured a uniform mass of the grinding media and same number of milling bodies, and constant other conditions and process parameters, conclusions can be drawn about the influence of the shape of the milling bodies on the grinding process. Over the decades, mine and mineral processing plant operations for the most part, have been found to have had adverse impacts on the environment. At the same time, mineral processing and mining operations produce mineral products that are indispensable to modern society. Thus, the sector has desirable and undesirable attributes simultaneously. The situation presents itself as a contradiction (i.e.) the mineral processing and mining operations are wanted by society, and at the same time unwanted by society. The existing methods of addressing the issues raised above have evidently not been very successful in reducing the opposition to new projects and to the related activities such as land acquisition. This paper attempts to show the relevance and applicability of TRIZ for addressing the issue. TRIZ, or Teoriya Rezheniya Isobretatelski Zadach, is a Russian acronym meaning Theory of Inventive Problem Solving. TRIZ is a powerful tool that can be usefully applied to resolve such contradictions, using resources usually available within the system of interest. Accordingly, this paper introduces the issue background, followed by an introduction to some key concepts of TRIZ such as the 40 principles, separation principles and directed evolution. The paper goes on to apply the 40 principles to two case studies. The results show that TRIZ could be a useful tool to generate potentially innovative and sustainable approaches. Its most appropriate position would be as a supplement to current decision-making procedures, and as a validation tool to review existing solutions for possible improvements. Several approaches to the estimation of the size discrete breakage rate and distribution parameters (kj and bi,j ) of the batch grinding kinetic model are available in the literature. Analysis of a large amount of data available in the literature and our own data on several pure minerals and complex ores has shown that it is not always possible to obtain correct estimates of the two sets of parameters using known approaches as several widely different combinations of k and b parameters can sometimes simulate the batch grinding data reasonably accurately. It has been found that there are two main reasons: (i) all size classes are not well represented in the data and (ii) functional forms used for estimation of the two sets of parameters are sometimes chosen somewhat arbitrarily (especially in the case of complex ores), though they are actually uniquely related through size continuous breakage rate and distribution functions. A suitable experimental methodology has been described and demonstrated using some synthetic data and actual experimental data. A mill function approach, which does not require making any assumptions about the functional forms for k and b parameters, is also described and demonstrated. This approach is promising, but requires further development.

"For the traditional principle of flotation cell design, or in the perspective of some researchers, the mixing effect of impeller for flotation cell is not only to suspend the particles off the bottom, but also to mix slurry well to achieve a uniform system. But for some special processing conditions, the depth profile of slurry concentration and particle size demonstrates an obvious difference. In the part around of the impeller in the cell, the slurry concentration is much higher than the part below the lip.For the vanadium titano-magnetite flotation process, distinguished with high concentration and large coarse particle size fraction, even though the concentration is very high, it can reach good gas dispersion, which is a fundamental principle for flotation cell design and application. The gas dispersion is not a challenge in the high slurry concentration environment, not only in the vertical direction, but in the cross section. Different levels (the distance from the lip is 400mm, 700mm, 1200mm, 1700mm, 2200mm, 2700mm) slurry in the flotation cell is sampled and analyzed. The slurry concentration of the 3 levels(1700mm, 2200mm, 2700mm) is about 55%, but the slurry concentration decreases from 55% to 25% sharply towards the lip.Therefore, a new understanding and viewpoint is presented, that the uniform system of slurry is not always reasonable for all of the flotation process. For some special process, if the coarse particles are needed to agitated well and transported to the upper cell, the quiescent zone in the upper cell will be destroyed and enhance the detachment probability for the coarse particles. The difference of slurry concentration and particle size fraction benefits the air dispersion and coarse mineral particles recovery.1.INTRODUCTIONNowadays, flotation is the most widely used separation process in the mineral processing industry. In this paper, the development of research and practice on the separation process of fine complex Cu-S ore at a Copper Mine in south of China, was discussed. Since early 1980s, various processes were used, such as the process of bulk flotation-separation, the process of selection flotation and the process of iso-flotation. Especially when the process of selective flotation was put into operation, further development was achieved in beneficiation results, but the difficulty in separation of chalcopyrite from pyrite has not been solved yet, so causing a poor quality of Cu concentrate. The author has successfully developed a new separation process characterized by the use of collector thionocarbamate and fast flotation. The selectivity of fine chalcopyrite and pyrite was greatly improved. This process supplied a new route for the treatment of fine complex Copper sulphide ores.

A new porous apatite product was prepared using phosphorite from Yichang China by a tem-plate-directed method in self-made reaction equipment under constant temperature and pressure. The product was characterized by XRD, FT-IR and SEM. The results showed that the product was a kind of micrometer porous sphere three-dimensionally structured by apatite nanoflakes, that the average thickness of nanoflakes was about 50 nm, that the average pore size was about 1.2 µm and that the particle average size was about 20 µm. Great amounts of Ca2+channel, high special surface area and regular spherical shape show the potential promising applications of this special porous apatite product in the fields of catalyst, medication, chemical engineering and environment engineering

In the Borborema Pegmatitic Province (Brazil) exploitations of several minerals are conducted by small producers. They use traditional techniques of gravity concentration in small-scale plants as jigs and vibratory tables. During decades the mining activity generated tailings with economic interest in particularly columbite-tantalite. Samples collected in tailing piles of a gravity plant were characterized in mineral composition, which shows in the heavy fraction the minerals spodumene, columbite-tantalite, ilmeno-hematite, garnet and cassiterite. The light fraction presents quartz, feldspar and muscovite. The degree of liberation of spodumene and columbite-tantalite were determined using optical microscopy that presents liberation in 100 µm (90% to columbite-tantalite and 100% to spodumene). Centrifugal concentrator Falcon SB-40 was used for concentration of these minerals and presents 65% recovery in mass to two stages with mass reduction about 85%.

In last decade, along with its booming Chinese economy, China?s higher education has experienced rapid growth. In 2010, the number of various colleges totals more than 3500, with 2.2 million faculties registered. Currently there are almost 30 million students studying in the colleges, 3 times more than 10 years ago. Mineral Processing was initiated in 1949 as a sub-discipline of Mining Engineering, one of the 13 first level disciplines. Mineral Processing is now established in 34 Chinese colleges, recruiting 2600 undergraduate students, 540 postgraduate students and 100 PhD students every year. A further 9 institutes offer postgraduate education in this field. More than 3000 graduates majoring in Mineral Processing join the industry or institutions each year. The four-year undergraduate teaching and practical training in the colleges is designed to produce qualified mineral processing professionals. This includes courses in mathematics and natural science, fundamental engineering and basic and specialization courses. Recently, the ?Excellent Engineer Program? was launched to strengthen students? practical capabilities. This is a 3+1 teaching and training model; 3 years of theoretical course study plus 1 accumulated year of various practical studies, either inside or outside the college. As for graduate employment, mining-related major graduates have been in a good demand thanks to the intensive investment in mineral sector by Chinese companies. The shortage of experienced metallurgists generates a greater than 90% employment rate for Mineral Processing graduates. However, the biggest problem we are still facing is the gap between the quality of the graduates and the requirements of industry, as a result of occupation attraction, teaching systems, faculty quality, and so forth. Another problem is international orientation. Although nowadays Chinese-foreign cooperation in college education is popular, collaborative mineral related projects are far less common, leaving much room for improvement. Looking ahead to the next 10 years, we still have the right reasons to estimate continued prosperity in the minerals sector as well as mineral processing education in China. The downstream treatment of chloride leach solutions of WPCB for recovery of base and precious metals by a combination of adsorption and precipitation processes were carried out. A synthetic leach solution (1 M HCl, 116.5 g/L Cl-, 30 g/L Cu2+, 2.5 g/L Fe3+, 5 mg/L Au3+, 10 mg/L Ag+ and 20 mg/L Pd2+), which was prepared based on the composition of the pregnant leach solution obtained in the previous study was used in the tests. The leach solution was initially subjected to activated carbon (AC) adsorption (20 g/L AC, 80°C) in which gold was selectively recovered over silver and palladium i.e., 88% Au recovery at 0.5 h (92% at 3.5 h) compared with only 3-6% for Ag/Pd. Copper and iron were also observed to adsorb on AC as indicated by 1.4% and 17% decline, in their respective concentrations. Following the adsorption and filtration stage, metallic copper was added into the gold-barren solution to allow reduction of Cu2+ to Cu+, and to cement Pd on metallic copper. Over the mixing period (1 h), 93% of the Pd was recovered while only 1.4% of silver was cemented onto metallic copper. Subsequently, the leach solution was gradually neutralised by NaOH to pH 4, 7.5 and 9.5 for the precipitation of copper as cuprite (Cu2O). It was found that 41% and 46% of Cu and Ag, respectively, were precipitated at pH 4 at which iron was almost totally (99.8%) removed from solution. Precipitation of copper and silver was increased further at high pHs. At pH 9.5, cumulative recoveries for copper and silver were 91% and 85%, respectively. XRD analysis of the precipitates confirmed the presence of cupric copper oxides/hydroxides and revealed that copper losses occurred at pH 4 was due to the undesired presence of cupric copper in the solution.

Ore breakage characterization plays an essential role in the design and optimization of comminution circuits. Recently, the JKMRC comminution research team has developed a Rotary Breakage Tester (JKRBT). The JKRBT uses a rotor-stator impacting system, in which particles gain a con-trolled kinetic energy and are impacted against the stator, causing particle breakage. The first unit of industrialised JKRBT was installed at the Anglo Research in South Africa in March 2007, and five more JKRBTs are currently being fabricated for some of the world?s major mining companies. In addition to the JKRBT, an improved breakage model has been developed at the JKMRC, which more accurately describes the effect of specific energy, particle size and incremental breakage caused by repetitive impacts. The validation outcomes show that the JKRBT, together with the new breakage model, generate statistically similar breakage parameters to the traditional drop weight tester (DWT), but with significant advantages over its predecessor. The limitations of the DWT, specifically its lack of precision of the energy input, the lengthy time required to run individual tests and the challenges en-countered in testing small particles, have all been overcome by the JKRBT. The recent developments in the JKRBT and the new breakage model offer several prospective applications. These developments have the potential to revolutionize the ore breakage characterization in the years to come.

The chelating reagents are used as effective collectors in wolframite flotation, and certain metal cations need to be added using chelating collectors so as to activate valuable minerals and obtain good flotation indexes. Different metal cations will result in different reactivity with collectors, in order to select the effective activator in BHA flotation of wolframite, the activation effectiveness of different metal cations on wolframite ((Fe,Mn)WO4) flotation were studied using pure minerals. The results showed that the wolframite activation by Pb2+was the best among the selected cations. The maximum flotation recovery of wolframite was found to be 95.58 % under conditions of 100mg/LBHA and 1×10-4mol/L of Pb2+at pH 9. The dosage of Pb2+needs to be controlled in an optimum range. Also, the activation mechanism of Pb2+ on BHA flotation of wolframite was investigated by measurements of contact angle, zeta potential, adsorption capacity and IR spectroscopy. It was found that Pb2+ could chemically adsorb onto the wolframite surface improving the flotability of wolframite and enhancing the adsorption of BHA on wolframite. When the dosages of BHA and Pb2+ were 100 mg/L and 1×10-4 mol/L, the adsorption quantity of BHA on wolframite sharply increased up to 0.30 mg/L at pH 9 compared with wolframite treated with only BHA.

The process of liquid?liquid extraction of gold from chloride solution is complicated by the presence of many variables acting simultaneously in an unknown non-linear fashion for the determination of the final extraction efficiency. In practice, it is quite difficult to develop a model for predicting various properties of such process. Therefore, an alternative approach based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is considered to assist in the simulation process. Artificial neural networks (ANN) are powerful tools that can be used to model and investigate various highly complex and non-linear phenomena. This paper presents application of Multi-Layer Perceptions (MLP) to construct relationship that will be employed to develop a quantitative method for the estimation of the extraction efficiency as a function of hydrodynamical parameters such as stirrer speed, [AuCl4]- and DBC concentration, organic and aqueous flow rate. The model is shown to be in excellent agreement with the experimental data (R2 value for training and testing data was 0.9992 and 0.9915 respectively). Therefore, it can be used to optimize the parameters of liquid?liquid gold extraction with dibutyl carbitol (DBC).

A culture-independent approach based on 16S rRNA gene clone library was used to analyze the bacterial community change both associated to the solids and in the liquid phase during pyrite bioleaching process. Phylogenetic analyses of 16S rRNA fragments revealed that the retrieved se-quences mainly related to genus Leptospirillum, genus Sulfobacillus and genus Acidithiobacillus. During the bioleaching process, genus Leptospirillum trends to grow associated to the solids while major of genus Sulfobacillus were in the liquid fase, only accounting little portion in the solids. Genus Acidithiobacillus can grow both on the solids and in the liquid phase, but accounting high portion on the solids.

Limestone is used for neutralization of acid leachates in a number of hydrometallurgical processes. The aim of this study was to clarify how limestone ground to different particle sizes can neutralize sulfuric acid. The laboratory scale ball mill was used in grinding experiments carried out using ball sizes of 20, 30 and 40 mm and volumetric slurry densities of 30, 40 and 50 percents. Varied grinding times were used in order to produce limestone samples with different particle size classes on which the neutralization potential and rate were determined. The results of the study showed that the neutralization potential of limestone is not dependent on its particle size between 5 and 120 µm. However, the particle size strongly affected the neutralization rate of sulfuric acid: The smaller the particle size, the higher the rate of neutralization. Thus, when optimizing the cost efficiency of the process, the optimal degree of grinding should be considered taking in account the required residence time in neutralization phase.

The importance of brown coal as a raw material is currently given by growing energy needs of Czech Republic. More than 70% of mined brown coal comes from North Bohemian Basin these days. Mining of brown coal is run in four mining locations. They are geologically different and the parameters of mining coal are quite different too. This requires a little bit different methodology of both extraction and reclamation. Methods of reclamation works in the region are given mainly by the characteristics of overburden rocks appearing in the upper horizon of recuperated localities. The difficulties of the North Bohemian mine dumps reclamation works are caused by extremely unfavourable properties of rocks poured down to the majority of mine dumps. These are mainly rocks of the overlaying strata and the rocks strata of brown coal bed. Main materials poured down to the mine dumps are sands, clayey sands and kaolin ? illitic clays. Admixtures in filled rocks consist of organic (coal) mass, siderite and pyrite. These rocks are mechanically instable with respect to the wind and water erosion and during weathering they are getting unfavourable, acid (phytotoxic) nature, due to the influence of SO3 and Al ions. External and internal dumps of open pit mines are significant part of the North ? Bohemian landscape sustained by excavation. Their as fast as possible preparation and gradual integration into ecosystem of the area is interest of both citizens of region and mining companies. The paper briefly summarizes the methodology of restoration of the largest dumps of the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin and the results of analyses and evaluation of samples taken on restored localities Rado-vesice dump, Strimice dump, Ru?odol dum pand internal dump of Bilina mine. An example of modern non-tradicional restoration methods is the restoration of internal dump of Bilina mine (application of power plant stabilizer). According to observations and results of sample analyses the methods of restoration were selected to limit the erosion influence, adjust the chemical and physical composition of surface of Radovesice and Strimice dumps. The application of marlites and bentonite prevent the unfavourable weathering processes on dump surface. Compensation of Quaternary sediments was artifically formed here. The need of marlite ploughing in, application of organical substrates and vegetation preparation was proved on Radovesice dump. The conception of landscape reclamation of the largest dumps after finishing of mining, methodology of technical reclamation and well considered using of fertilizable soils are main results presented in this article.

Bioleaching method makes use of bacteria in solving metallic sulphides, so that these bacteria tend to convert insoluble metal sulphides into soluble sulphates. Since the kinetics description of this process is inevitable for better interpretation of relation between metabolism and growth of live organisms, as well as optimization of metals extraction processes, in this paper, this description is represented and designed in mathematic (kinetics) model for copper sulphide minerals based on Monod kinetics model.
