"An estimated 600,000 tons of bentonite clay are used annually in the U. S. as binder for production of iron ore concentrate pellets. Since this is a significant cost item for the plants, and the addition of bentonite to the pellets contributes undesirable silica into the finished pellets, there is considerable incentive for finding methods to reduce bentonite use. One way to reduce bentonite levels is to selectively use those bentonites that are most effective in this application, so that a lower dosage will still produce a sufficiently strong pellet. Unfortunately, there are no satisfactory methods available for accurately predicting which bentonites are actually most effective, short of using them to actually make pellets. One of the popular methods for attempting to evaluate bentonites is the “Plate Water Absorption” (PWA) test. While some plant operators accept the PWA results as indicating the relative quality of bentonites, others disagree and claim that, over a fairly broad range of values, PWA does not correlate with bentonite performance.Since both Ca+2 and Mg+2 ions are known to reduce the swelling and water absorption capacity of bentonite, it was believed that the presence of these ions in plant recycle water could be changing the bentonite performance. Since the standard PWA test uses only distilled water for its measurements, it could not detect these effects. Experiments were therefore carried out on a number of different bentonites using a modified PWA tests, with plant recycle water replacing the distilled water. These experiments showed little effect of the plant water on the PWA value, and chemical analysis of the water showed that the levels of dissolved salts were quite low.Water and accompanying salts were then extracted from a magnetite concentrate filter cake by rinsing with distilled water. Analysis of this water showed an extremely high level of dissolved salts, particularly salts of calcium and magnesium. When concentrations were compared with the recycle water from the plant filters, it was determined that levels of Ca+2 and Mg+2 retained in the filter cake were over 500 times higher than levels in the recycle water. This extreme elevation of soluble salts in the filter cake is believed to be due to adsorption of these ions into the electrical double layer of the magnetite particles."

The particles commonly encountered in mineral benefication schemes have irregularites that are expressed at many different length scales. In part, this originates from preceding processes (e.g. makedown, comminution, handling and storage), which are known to chemically and physically modify the bulk particle and its surface. Interparticle tribology, dissolution and reprecipitation events along with large-scale mechanical stresses are just a handful of the interactions encountered during processing of particles prior to separation. It is feasible to imagine that each one of these events may impose a fingerprint of characteristic nanoscale, microscale, and macroscale morphological changes that can modify the overall interaction of these particles within a system. Suprisingly there are just a few works on how these resulting features can alter the performance of benefication schemes, and especially flotation.

At present, Russia is engaged in processing, 3new plants of hard-to-process potash ores with increased content (up to 10 - 12%) of insoluble impurities (insoluble residue ? I.R.). This required additional research to improve the process of potash ores flotation. Based on the study of the effect of dispersive properties of frother and its flow rate on the efficiency of aliphatic amines with different length of the hydrocarbon radical (as sylvite collector) there was showed the possibility to apply high molecular amine with length of hydrocarbon radical C20 ? C26 by normal temperature of circulated plant salt solution (saturated solution KCl ? NaCl ? H2O). There was designed and tested in plant conditions the modified amine collector with the length of the hydrocarbon radical C16 - C26, improving flotation of Sylvite under normal temperature of circulating salt solutions at potash flotation plants. There was made the study of the influence of the hydrocarbon radical length of alkylmorpholine on the Halite flotation from intermediate products of sylvite recleaner flotation with different content of I.R. (silicate-carbonate slimes), at normal and elevated temperature of salt solution. On the basis of the application of modified alkylmorpholine for Halite flotation, there was developed the process of further beneficiation for the intermediate products of sylvite recleaner flotation from potash ores with increased content of insoluble impurities, which can eliminate the circulation of the intermediate products in the process flow sheet of sylvinite ore processing and increase the KCl recovery into the finished product. The effective utilization of the energy in comminution devices depend on how efficiently the broken particles leave the breakage field as soon as they reach product size. In crushers the transport of broken particles smaller than CSS is done by gravity (vertical) thus allowing the energy to be applied to new particles. However, in AG/SAG mills, gravity becomes the energy field and the transport of particles is horizontal which needs a suitable discharge mechanism and has been found to have significant effect on grinding efficiency. The material transport in AG/SAG mills depend on how efficiently the discharge system (grate and pulp lifters) operates. Material transport plays a significant role on efficiency of horizontal grinding mills ? AG/SAG/Ball mills. The magnitude of benefits that can be achieved with efficient material transport in AG/SAG mills has been demonstrated in a Greenfield milling operation at Mirabela Mineração?s SantaRita Nickel operation located in northeastern part of Bahia in Brazil. This grinding circuit was commissioned in October 2009, which was designed as a typical SABC circuit to grind 4.6 mtpa (575tph) to produce a P80 of 125um with 10-12% ball charge in SAG mill. However, it has been operating as ABC circuit without any grinding media in SAG mill. The nameplate design capacity has been achieved in few days and has gradually increased to an average of +800 tph and still it is operating in ABC mode. The milling circuit commissioning resulted in small and relatively simple measures to rectify, which was reflected in the rapid commissioning of the milling circuit and it achieved the nameplate capacity within days. The Santa Rita grinding circuit consists of one 30?x 15.4? 8.5MW SAG Mill fitted with Outotec patented Turbo Pulp Lifters (TPL TM ) in close circuit with HP400 short head pebble crusher and one 20? x 28.4? 5.5MW Ball Mill in closed circuit with Warman cyclone cluster fitted with 10 x 26? CAVEX cyclones. This paper examines the comminution design process, operating philosophies, experiences, post commissioning optimization, and future development works. "The environmental effects of the mining and mineral industry include destruction of natural habitats, changes in river regimes and water tables, and other serious ecological impacts. In this century, it is likely that water will become a critical resource, and in most countries the mining industry competes for a share of this resource. The Kyoto Protocol may at first seem only relevant to the coal mining and power industry, however, it should not be forgotten that the mining and mineral industry is a significant consumer of power. Therefore the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol by most developed countries and the introduction of a carbon credit trading scheme will impact on the industry by potentially increased costs in utilities and waste discharges. It is clear therefore that the mining industry faces many challenges in the coming years. The mining industry?s commitment to sustainable development needs to continue to evolve, in order to meet these challenges effectively. With the advent of globalisation of the industry, it is now an opportune time for the industry to gain international agreement on how they want the industry to achieve sustainability in future years; such a progressive approach is necessary, otherwise government will force the industry to change, which may not necessarily be the best outcome for the industry.INTRODUCTIONThe Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 was an opportunity for world leaders to assemble and discuss strategies and initiatives that provide for further industrial growth without adverse effects on the environment. The World Summit on Sustainable Development held last year in Johannesburg, South Africa, was an opportunity to evaluate those initiatives implemented over the past 10 years, and to set a new and sustainable direction for the future. It is clear that industrial and technology development will continue at a rapid pace in order to serve the needs of a growing world population, but it is essential that the course of this development is well planned, well executed, and that it is sustainable. In reality, while government officials and politicians continue to debate policy and international protocols, the environment continues to suffer and the effects of climate change and global-warming become more real each day."

Results of the study of chloride ion concentration effect to osmium-187 sorption from wastewater of copper smelter with use of foreign anionites of different basicity and structure are presented in the work. It was found that the increase of chloride ion concentration in the wastewater helps to increase recovery of osmium using anionites regardless of their nature. The ways to intensify the process are proposed. The method for osmium elution from the anionites with potassium iodate solution was developed. It was shown that the method lets to recover up to 99% of osmium from the anionites. Recommendations for selection of eluents for better recovery of osmium from the anionites were elaborated. Agglomeration of fine mineral particles is an important step in heap leaching processes employed for a cost-effective hydrometallurgical extraction of value metals from low-grade ores. In this study, the effect of acidic binder composition and feed ore particle size on binder dosage requirement and isothermal, batch agglomeration behavior of siliceous goethite nickel laterite has been investigated. Agglomeration tests performed with tap water and 30, 44 and 98% w/w H2SO4 solutions as binders revealed the key role of binder formulation in controlling ore particle wettability, nucleation and granule growth behavior. Both lower binder acid content and higher dosage led to greater wetting, nucleation and granule growth rates. Variation of feed ore fine/coarse particles? mass ratio dramatically impacted on binder dosage requirement for effective particle wetting, nucleation, and growth agglomeration behavior. Increasing fine (-150 µm) fraction mass content in a -2 mm feed ore, led to higher binder dosage requirement and enhanced nucleation, however the overall agglomeration rate/granule size growth decreased. In contrast, the presence of coarse (5 ? 15 mm) particles in feed ore led to (i) lower binder dosage requirement, (ii) enhanced initial agglomerate size growth rate, and (iii) reduced coalescence. For dry agglomerates of similar sizes, competent coarser feed particles led to remarkably higher compressive strength than did finer feed particles. Microstructure analyses indicated that the granules containing coarser particles exhibited a distinctive, competent core/shell (fines) structure which led to their structural reinforcement. The appropriation of the findings for optimizing agglomeration behavior for enhanced heap leaching of complex, low grade laterite ores are discussed in this context.

Thickening is the most widely applied dewatering technique in mineral processing. Thickeners are used to increase the concentration of suspension by sedimentation, accompanied by the formation of a clear liquid. As the particles get finer the thickening process encounters difficulty due to a significant change in the settling behaviour of particles. The batch settling tests of coal refuse of a coal washing plant which contained 91% particles smaller than 38µm and 0.6% coarser than 75 µm showed that the optimum feed percent solids that provided highest flux (solids handling capacity) was 4%. The flux of the pulp with the plant solids concentration (i.e., 10%) was 60% lower than that of the pulp with 4% solids. A thickener with a diameter of 22m based on the dilution of feed from solids concentration of 10% to 4% was designed. Monitoring of the thickener performance for a period of one month in the plant indicated that on average the feedrate of 25t/h (dry solids) with solids concentration of 10% could be thickened to the underflow concentration of 26.5% with a clear water overflow. It was found that the key component of the successful operation of the thickener is the dilution of the feed without which the overflow loses its clarity and the system ceases to operate under predetermined conditions. Specially designed feeding system which efficiently dissipated the energy of the incoming flow and staged flocculant addition regime are among the main contributing factors in making the design and operation of such thickener possible.

"The flotation process of native Rare Earth minerals such as bastnasite, monazite, mixed minerals of bastnasite and monazite, using the new effective collector Dh was studied in this paper, respectively, and the flotation properties are described. The good qualities of the new collector Dh were revealed through comparing with other collector of Rare Earth minerals. The test results of different ore samples show that at moderate pulp pH (8.5-9.5), Rare earth minerals can be effectively separated from barium, calcium and silicon bearing intergrowth minerals (barite, calcite and silicate minerals) and high quality Rare Earth concentrates can be obtained successfully by the new collector Dh, acid silica gel, turpentine and reagents fitting together rationally. In order to determine optimum technical conditions, the effect of pulp pH, pulp temperature, pulp density and the effect of dosage of reagents (Dh and acid silica gel) on the flotation were investigated in the test.Simultaneously, the paper explores the mechanism of the flotation of Rare Earth minerals from intergrowth minerals. The infrared spectra for Dh and Rare Earth cation by analysis in theory shows that Dh formed chelate complex with Rare Earth cation and were adsorbed on the surfaces of Rare Earth minerals. The mechanism of the intergrowth minerals depressed by acid silica gel can be explained as gummy colloid hydrolyzed from acid silica gel which are selectively absorbed on the gangue minerals, making them hydrophilic and depressed, with pulp pH value of alkalescent."

"Movement of mill charge in the centrifugal mill is essentially different from that in the vibration mill with circular path despite the apparently similar mode in the motion of mill body. As proved e.g. in [11], this results in substantial advantage regarding the comminution intensity of the centrifugal mill over the conventional vibration mill accounting approximately to one order of magnitude.Back in 1983, Bradley et al. presented a model of the centrifugal mill based on the kinetics of the mill charge by regarding it as a lumped mass. On the other hand, numerical modeling by ‘discrete element method (DEM)’ enabled us to observe the movement of each ball in the centrifugal mill with an extremely minute time intervals (Inoue et al., XX IMPC in 1997). The former approach rendered simple, even though approximate, expression of the mill behavior, while the latter method was advantageous in describing the behavior of the mill in terms of individual events taking place in the mill body, even though the result did not reduce to a simple expression. The characteristics of the centrifugal mill described by both these approaches proved to be in a degree of agreement. Thus, the kinetic approach was capable of presenting the overall view of the mill, while the DEM model was informative of the details that could not be depicted well enough by the simple math expressions."

"The flotation separation of sulphides bulk concentrate containing Cu, Zn, Mo and Bi, which was obtained by both table-flotation of gross sand of gravity separation of wolframite and bulk flotation of wolframite slimes using butyl xanthate and oil No. 2, etc., has been conducted by using the cyanide process in the tungsten concentrator. The process has problems of high reagents consumption (25 tonne of cyanide dosage per year) and mineral processing cost (800~1000 RMB reagents cost per tonne of by-product concentrates), high mutual containing loss in the by-product concentrates and serious environmental pollution caused by lots of cyanide-containing wastewater. In order to solve this problem, a new cyanide-free separation technology is studied, which is used to process this sulphides bulk concentrate with 8.68% Cu, 8.98% Zn, 0.26% Mo, 1.58% Bi and 40.12% S. The results of the closed circuit test show that Cu, Zn, Mo and Bi can effectively be separated from this sulphide minerals concentrate by using the reasonable flotation-gravity flowsheet, high-efficiency collectors and regulators simultaneously. The metallurgical recovery and concentrate grade are as follows: molybdenum recovery is 94.63% with 50.62% Mo content; copper recovery is 85.18% with 29.29% Cu content; zinc recovery is 75.92% with 46.49% Zn content; total Bi recovery is 65.08% with 16.86% Bi content. The new technology is an alternative to the cyanide process due to its low cost for reagents, satisfying separation results and economic profits, and solves the problem of environmental pollution caused by the use of large quantities of cyanide. Some important parameters in separating the Cu-Zn-Mo-Bi sulphides concentrate are also introduced in this paper. This study provides pretty good technical support for separating the polymetallic sulphide ores containing Cu, Zn, Mo and Bi by cyanide-free technique."

"In this paper, we report a simple and effective process for producing a surfactant mixture of O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (IPETC) and 4-(tert-butyl)benzyl mercaptan (BBSH). The composite collector was synthesized via one-pot reaction of sodium isopropyl xanthate, 4-tert-butylbenzylchloride and ethylamine using tert-butyl alcohol as solvent. The whole process for the synthesis of composite collector involves neither foul smelling reagents or intermediates, nor any by-products requires special treatment for disposal, and thus can be scaled up to an industrial level. The flotation response of chalcopyrite and pyrite independently with IPETC and BBSH collectors and with their mixture (the mole ratio of IPETC and BBSH is 1:1) was assessed. The microflotation results showed that the collecting ability of BBSH was slightly stronger than that of IPETC and that IPETC was more selective collector than BBSH against pyrite, and that the composite collector displayed a stronger collecting ability toward chalcopyrite than IPETC, and superior selectivity for chalcopyrite against pyrite than BBSH. The batch flotation results showed that composite collector exhibited better performance than IPETC and BBSH. It was demonstrated that the mixing of IPETC and BBSH would give rise to a synergistic effect significantly enhancing overall flotation performance. In addition, the adsorption mechanism of BBSH on the surface of chalcopyrite was conducted by adsorption test and infrared spectrum measurement, and the results showed that the interaction of BBSH on the chalcopyrite surface was dominated by the chemical adsorption, and the formation of a strong S-M bond plays a key role in the adsorption of mercaptans on minerals surfaces. INTRODUCTION Froth flotation is an essential method widely used in the mineral processing industry to selectively separate valuable minerals from gangues[1]. Worldwide, more than 109 tons of materials are treated annually by this method with the majority being metal sulfides and oxides[2]. Nowadays, the judicious utilization of complex sulfides to meet the ever-growing demand of mineral resources gains more attention, due to the gradual depletion of deposits with high grade, making imperative the development of new high-efficiency collectors and mixtures of collectors to process complex minerals. In comparison to individual collectors, the use of mixtures has several notable benefits including lower dosage requirements, improved selectivity, rates and recovery and an increase in the recovery of coarse particles[3-9]. Moreover, in terms of cost and environmental issues, using collector mixtures can reduce the total amount of agents used, thus reducing the overall effect on the environment and economic costs without affecting the flotation performance. In this investigation, different mixtures of realgar and orpiment particles were floated in a laboratory batch flotation cell and multivariate image analysis was used to estimate the arsenic content in the froths. The analysis was based on the froth colour, as well as extraction of three groups of textural features, namely those based on grey level co-occurrence matrices (GLCMs), wavelets and local binary patterns (LBPs). Collectively, these features provided better information on the arsenic content of the froths than any one of the individual groups of features. Partial least squares models could explain approximately 78% of the variance in the arsenic by using all the features combined. The colour content, particularly the green component in the red-green-blue (RGB) features, provided almost as much information as each of the three sets of texture-base features individually.

There is a strong demand for nickel metal due to quick development of stainless steel and new electrical materials, most of which is extracted from sulfide resources, resulting in a serious depletion of sulfide resources. Therefore, more attentions have been paying to extracting nickel from nickel laterite, which accounts for some 50% of total nickel metal production. In this paper prereducing?magnetic separation?reduction smelting process is developed to manufacture ferronickel rom two types of nickel laterite DN and GN, assaying 1.42% 1.83% Ni and 49.09% 26.08%Fetotal, respectively. Mineralogy of two types of nickel laterite was determined and optimization of process parameters was conducted to manufacture ferronickel. Prereduction?magnetic concentration process is used to upgrade low grade nickel laterite firstly, two kinds of Ni-Fe concentrates being prepared of DN assaying 2.26% Ni and 69.45% Fetotal and GN containing 2.76% Ni and 38.00% Fetotal. Finally, two types of ferronickel were produced by reduction smelting of prereduced concentrates DN and GN, DN and GN ferronickel contains 2.97% Ni and 6.58%Ni, 89.25%Fetotal and 89.95%Fetotal, respectively. The total recoveries of Ni and Fe of the two ferronickel are beyond 90% and 80%, respectively. There is significant difference in grade of magnetic concentrates and ferronickel between DN and GN laterite due to their different mineralogy, the former belongs to limonitic laterite and the latter saponite one. There are some advantages for this process to manufacture ferronickel from nickel laterite, including effectively upgrading low grade nickel laterite by prereducing?magnetic separation technique, higher throughput and lower energy available for reduction smelting section due to some 40% gangue being rejected in pre-upgrading section, and much less metallurgical coke consumption by using non-coking coal as reductant for prereducing?magnetic separation?smelting process.

The comminution in a high-pressure roller mill is modeled by an energy-based population balance approach considering three aspects of breakage taking place in the active zones of the mill: the interparticle breakage in the high-compression zone, the breakage at the edges of the rolls, and the pre-breakage in the acceleration zone. Together with an appropriate model of classification, this model can be used to simulate steady-state performance of closed-circuit grindings with high-pressure roller mill. After a brief description of the basic modeling approach, the algorithm of the steady-state calculation for a generalized grinding-classification circuit is presented, from which the circuit configurations commonly met in industrial practice can be derived. With an iron ore as feed material for example, simulation results are shown and discussed in respect of circulating load, specific energy consumption and product fineness for closed-circuit grindings under various operating conditions. The effects of stressing intensity, working gap, classifier parameters as well as circuit configuration on the overall circuit performance are investigated systematically by means of computer simulation.

Russia is one of the largest manufacturers of potash fertilizers in the world. Processing of potash ores basically is carried out by a flotation way. Potash ores of the Verhnekamsky potash deposit contain sylvite (KCl), halite (NaCl) and water insoluble impurity (up to 8 %), presented silicate- carbonate minerals, easily slimed by ore crushing in rod mills. Ore of some deposit sites, developed by ?Uralkali? Co, contains a significant amount of a carnal-lite (KCl.MgCl2.6H2O). Work practice of flotation potash plants has shown, that increase of car-nallite content in ore leads to increase magnesium ion content in a circulated plant brine (saturated salt solution of potassium and sodium chlorides-sylvite brine) and to deterioration of indicators of ore processing. In the Paper we present results of researches of floatability of various size sylvite and influences silicate-carbonate slimes on sylvite flotation in brines with the various magnesium chloride content. It is established, that with increase magnesium chloride content in the brine mainly decreases the flotation of coarse sylvite and amplifies adverse effect of silicate-carbonate slimes on sylvite flotation. In this connection deterioration of potash ore flotation is caused not only decrease sylvite floatability but also strengthening adverse action of water insoluble impurity on potash flotation. It is shown that the application of frothing agents, which render the stronger dispersive action on the colloidal-micellar structures of amine in the salt solution increases the absorption of collector on the sylvite and improves the flotation of sylvite into magnesium the containing salt solutions. The application of an organic depressor to the greatest degree of decreasing the absorption amine on the slimes and to the smallest degree possessing anionic properties proves to be most effective with the flotation carnallite of the containing potassium ores. It is offered the application the frother on a basis of glycol ethers and organic depressor on a basis of urea-formaldehyde resin. Results of industrial tests developed reagent modes for flotation treatment of ores with the raised carnallite content (to 6 %) on ?Uralkali? Co plant have shown that their application has allowed to receive equivalent indicators potash flotations at change of magnesium chloride content in the brine from 0.7 % up to 2.4 % .

Vanadium is an important metal that is used mainly in ferrous and non-ferrous alloys due to the high tensile strength, hardness, fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance. Vanadium consumption in the steel industry represents about 85% of the vanadium-bearing products produced worldwide. The primary sources of the metal are patronite, roscoelite, and mottramite. Vanadium has also been produced as a by-product of the uranium production program which uses carnotite ores as a source of uranium. Vanadiferous magnetite iron ores are used for producing vanadium as well. In addition, it is known that vanadium can be recovered from the ashes of crude oil and petroleum coke. The process for treating boiler residues, fly ash and petroleum coke is similar to the process used to treat spent catalysts and ores. However, some of these materials may contain high carbon that must be removed at specific stage of the operation. Several processes are available for obtaining vanadium from fly ash, such as roasting vanadium bearing materials in the presence of sodium salt. The salt roasted calcine is subsequently leached with an alkaline or acidic solution. To obtain a cal-cine from which the vanadium can subsequently be recovered, the carbon in the source materials has to be eliminated prior to the roasting process. Other processes use the conventional hydrometallurgical route, in which fly ash is leached with sulphuric acid to obtain an impure vanadium pentoxide. The impure vanadium pentoxide is then treated with a sodium carbonate solution under atmospheric conditions to subsequently precipitate vanadium as ammonium metavanadate. Actually, the salt roasting process is the only process used commercially. In the present study, the progress in the technology of vanadium extraction from secondary materials is reviewed. The perspectives and the challenges for new process development are discussed.

"In this study, a three level Box- Behnken factorial design combined with Response surface methodology (RSM) for modeling of process parameters of Multi Gravity Separator (MGS) for recovery Iron values from sub grade iron ore, Deposit No. 5, Bailadila complex has been developed. The three significant operational parameters of MGS, Drum rotational speed (RPM), Drum inclination (degrees) and quantity of wash water (LPM) were considered in the experimental work. Other parameters like feed percent solids, shake frequency and shake amplitude were maintained constant. The ‘as received’ sub grade iron ore sample is admixture of lump and fines and chemically assayed 40.80% Fe, 40.90% SiO2, 0.24% Al2O3 and 0.22% Loss on Ignition (LOI). The obtained results were evaluated with the Box-Behnken factorial design, RSM and also Quadratic programming(QP). Second order response functions were produced for Fe in terms of grade (%) and recovery (%) of the concentrate fraction. Taking advantage of QP, it was observed that maximum grade of 62.21% Fe achieved at an inclination of 4.3degrees, 2.7LPM of wash water and at a drum speed of 198 RPM. Similarly a maximum Fe recovery of 65.37% weight can be achieved at 4.3degrees inclination, 2.6LPM wash water and at a rotational speed of 212 RPM Predicted values of responses obtained using model equations were in good agreement with the experimental values. The influence of the process variables of the multi gravity separator concentrator on grade and recovery of concentrate fraction were presented and discussed."

Most of the quantity of the water soluble xanthates, used in mineral flotation, is consumed in the process. However, the residue amounts are water contaminants downstream the mineral processing operations and can be toxic to aquatic biota at concentrations of 1 mg/L. In order to be able to discharge water from tailing ponds to natural water bodies the concentration of xanthates has to be decreased. The present paper studies the uptake of potassium ethyl xanthate by directly modified with copper and lead ions natural zeolitic rock, without passing through zeolite transformation into homoionic form. Modified zeolite exhibits high, comparable with powdered activated carbon of chemical purity grade, capacity to remove potassium ethyl xanthate from model wastewater, with pH in the range of 7?9 and pollutant concentration in the range of 10-150 mg/L. The pollutant immobilization is fast. Both Cu and Pb modified zeolite behave as selective with respect to xanthate in the model wastewater, and Cu-modified zeolite possesses higher selectivity. SABC circuits have gained widespread attention within China, and are being gradually applied to many mines. However, the domestic knowledge of comminution process is still relatively basic, and the design and production management of the application of SABC technology lack guidance of scientific theories. This research project focuses on the Phase I SABC milling circuits of Wu Shan Porphyry copper mine. Targeting the design and operation problems of existing process and circuit, and without increased investment and alterations in equipment, the new technologies will combine ordinary crushing and grinding theories as theoretical guidance, and borrow JK Simulation Software (JKSimMet) for analysis in order to optimize the comminution process, efficiently allocate production output and energy consumption, eventually resulting in increased production and energy efficiency. Using JKSimMet Simulation Software, and combining theoretical optimizing and practical production techniques, as well as the on-site situation, the eventual SABC comminution process and circuit optimization plan is: increasing the grinding Ball charge from 8% to 10% v/v in the SAG mill; Setting the Ball charge in the Ball mill to 27% v/v and the maximum operating power draw to 5 800kW; replacing the HP Series crusher with a TRIO TC84 crusher, which is without a power controller, and adding a pebble bin. The final optimization result is: Maximum system processing capacity increased between 20%-26.7%, specific energy consumption reduced by more 2.0 kWh/t, creating an economic benefit of over 300 million RMB, thus achieving the goal of increased production, reduced energy consumption, and improved profitability.
