This paper describes the inseparable relation between product design, liberation, and metallurgical recovery in the optimisation of the recycling of passenger vehicles. This is illustrated by the use of an optimisation model that uses among others a material combination matrix based on metallurgical process data, which depicts the consequences of the quality of intermediate recycling products on the metallurgical material recovery and final alloy metal quality. Various simulations will illustrate the effect of changes in product design and hence liberation on the recycling of end-of-life vehicles. Although this paper focuses on cars, the discussion is equally valid for any end-of-life product. Calibration of the model will be discussed with reference to experiments carried out in order to study the optimal recovery of aluminium applications used in passenger vehicles.

"The theoretical technique of computational modeling and the experimental determination of the enthalpy of adsorption of a ligand molecule onto a mineral surface deliver the same output parameters and, therefore, complement each other in investigating the affinity of different ligand types for mineral surfaces.This study ran parallel experimental tests and computational calculations to determine the enthalpy of adsorption of a series of increasing chain length xanthates onto a pyrite surface. The outcomes showed that, while the absolute energy values were different, the trends were similar. Both computational and experimental approaches showed that the extent of the interaction of the xanthate molecule increases with increasing carbon chain length. The computational values were larger than the experimental values, which could be explained, in part, by the addition of water to the computational system, which resulted in a decrease in the heat of adsorption on the (100) surface, compared to the adsorption of the collector in a vacuum. The computational method showed that, in the case of the pyrite (100) surface, the most exothermic reaction was obtained when the two xanthate sulfur atoms bridged two pyrite 5-coordinated iron atoms. The (111) surface was found to be more reactive and different adsorption mechanisms were predicted for each of the C2, C3, C4 and C5 chain length xanthates.The experimentally determined exothermic increase in heat of adsorption for the addition of each CH2 group was found to be -8.17 kJ/mol. The contribution of the thiol head group was -34.9 kJ/mol. Previous studies on self-assembled monolayers have shown that these values are compatible with lateral interactions between CH2 groups and the exclusion of water. This study provides a rigorous experimental and computational approach which is intended to afford confidence in modelled data for the screening of new ligands for flotation processes.INTRODUCTIONComputational modelling is a fast and cost-effective method of screening collector molecules for the efficacy of their adsorption onto mineral surfaces. However, it is desirable to measure the computational outputs against experimental outputs to check for congruency. Computational modelling and experimental microcalorimetry both deliver the same output parameter: the energy of adsorption of the molecule onto the solid surface. These techniques are therefore ideally suited to complement one another in investigating the affinity of the interaction between collector molecules and mineral surfaces."

"IT enabled platforms are the key to provide an integrated view of the business activity or an enterprise as a whole. Attempts to integrate all functions in an enterprise such as mine-to-market initiatives, wherever and to whatever extent implemented, have provided significant benefits to the industry. The transformative potential of IT enabled integration platforms is illustrated in this communication from our own work in this field. TCS PREMAP (Platform for the Realization of Materials and Products) is a knowledge-driven engineering design and development platform which leverages modeling and simulation and artificial intelligence into the engineering design process. We illustrate the customization of this generic platform for the design and optimization of mineral processing plants in an integrated manner. TCS PEACOCK (Process and Equipment Analytics for Optimization and Control) has been developed to enable automation of data analytics in the operating plants. We illustrate its utility and power in improving the plant performance with the help of case studies from our work on pelletization of iron ores and optimization of flotation plants. INTRODUCTION We are living in an exciting digital era. With the advent of cloud computing and social media on the one hand and rapid advances being made in several research areas of interest to us in the minerals and metals industry such as artificial intelligence (AI) & machine learning, robotics, unmanned vehicles including drones, big data analytics, 3D printing, sensor technologies, renewable energies and internet of things (IoT), many disruptive transformations in our industry are on the horizon. Recent advances in information technology (IT) and knowledge engineering, in combination with appropriate domain expertise, that is, our enhanced understanding of the underlying science of mining and mineral processing operations and the availability of a variety of powerful modeling-simulation tools make it possible to address the challenging problems facing the mining and mineral processing industry, in an integrated manner."

On installing the Metso Superior MK 54x75? primary gyratory crusher in Nkomati mine the crusher experienced severe power spikes greater than 1000kW which subsequently led to the crusher tripping under load while processing some of Nkomati?s MMZ ores. Likewise significant losses in throughput were also experienced while processing some of Nkomati?s MMZ ore types. Interestingly the crusher was capable of processing the PCMZ ores without experiencing any power spikes or losses in throughput. Investigations into the challenges faced by the crusher while processing Nkomati?s MMZ ores were conducted using the DEM model in conjunction with the fast breakage model present in Metso?s High Fidelity Simulator. The intentions of the study were to establish the most suitable operating conditions or cavity design that would potentially enhance the performance of the crusher. Likewise an understanding of the effects the feed conditions (size distribution and hardness) had on the crusher?s performance was established. Ore characterization tests were conducted on Nkomati?sPyroxenite, Diabase, Calc silicate and quartzite ores which were from Nkomati?s MMZ ore body. The ore characterization tests conducted were drop weight tests, slow compression tests and elastic modulus tests. Four simulations were conducted used the existing cavity design with various open side settings (OSS) and throws. This established the effects of changing the crusher?s operating conditions on its performance. Four additional simulations were conducted on two cavity designs with reduced volumes. This established the effects of changing the crusher?s cavity design on the crusher?s performance. Thus through the simulations a better understandings of the impact of the crusher design, operating conditions and feed conditions on the crushers performance. Furthermore an analysis of the crusher?s performance was made which was used as a basis for comparisons with the base case simulation. "In this article, research on the beneficiation process for a carbon containing copper-molybdenum deposit in Henan province has been carried out. The elemental composition, mineral composition and relative content, characteristics of embedded and symbiotic relationship, the forms of the copper-molybdenum particlesand their disseminated features, and particle size distribution have been worked out. Flotation behavior of copper-molybdenum mixed flotation and separate flotation in the systems of different collectors and depressants, and the influence of different flowsheets on the copper-molybdenum separation have been investigated by actual ore flotation tests, The separation problem of copper-molybdenum for a carbon-containing copper molybdenum ore has been solved.INTRODUCTION In this paper, technological mineralogy, small experiment of flotation recovery of copper Molybdenum ore, and expansion experiment of mineral recovery of copper Molybdenum ore are introduced. (1) The results of process mineralogyshow that the content of copper is 0.42%, molybdenum is 0.021% in the raw ore, they mainly exist in the form of sulfide, with low oxidation rate. (2) The results of flotation tests show that the combination of butyl xanthate and isopropyl ethylthionocarbamate reagents is effective collector of copper-molybdenum mixed flotation for carbon copper molybdenum, (3) When the grinding fineness is -0.074 mm taking 71%, and regrinding fineness is -0.038 mm taking 85%, the flowsheet of first copper-molybdenum mixed flotation and then regrinding rough concentrate and last separation flotation of copper and molybdenum was adopted, which realized the effective separation of copper and molybdenum for carbon-containing copper molybdenum ore. Good flotation indexes were gained with copper concentrate containing 20.96% copper and copper recovery 90.06%, and molybdenum concentrate containing 46.78% molybdenum with molybdenum recovery 72.68%. (4) The seven days average concentration index of scale-up the continuous dressing experiment is as follows, the copper content in copper concentrate is 20.16% and the recovery is 89.61%; the molybdenum content in molybdenum concentrate is 24.58% and the recovery rate is 74.09%."

India is the third largest producer with accounting to fifth largest reserves base of coal in the world. Indian coal has high ash content (15-45%) and low calorific value. The basic processes being used in India at different places for coal washing adopts old techniques. Much of the valuable part is being lost during washing processes. With enhancement of the available techniques and use of new processes like flotation process indicates better recovery of carbon values during washing stage. The same will increase the reserve base, improve economy of operation and alleviate environment related problems. In the above backdrop this paper portrays the case study of an existing coal processing plant in India. The case study includes the modifications being incorporated in the existing process to enhance the product value. The existing practices and the future trend of process technology that could be adopted to meet the requirements in this country are also discussed. "Enargite is a significant penalty mineral in the copper industry and its separation from many copper sulfides by flotation is difficult. The separation may be crudely achieved using selective oxidation techniques or through the use of pulp potential control. This paper summarizes our latest contributions to a better understanding of enargite surface electrochemistry and hydrophobicity. Oxidation, roughness, hydrophobicity and species formation on the surface of natural enargite were examined by a novel experimental approach that combines electrochemical techniques, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and droplet evaporation tensiometry. It allows for synchronized electrochemical control and examination of the oxidative surface morphology, speciation and hydrophobicity of enargite at pH 4 and pH 10. At low pH, surface layer formations consisting of metal deficient sulfide and elemental sulfur were identified associated with a limited increase in roughness and heterogeneous distribution of surface species produced by initial rapid dissolution of Cu, followed by diffusion limited surface layer deposition. At high pH, a similar diffusive mechanism associated with oxidation products consisting of copper sulfate and hydroxide and a significant increase in surface roughness were established. Receding contact angle measurements showed no significant difference in the contact angle on a surface oxidized at pH 10 and the freshly polished surface. Contact angle increased from 46° on the polished surface to 59° after oxidation at pH 4. Competing effects of hydrophilic copper oxides and hydroxides, and hydrophobic species of elemental sulfur on the mineral surfaces under oxidizing conditions at pH 4, and the change in surface roughness at pH 10, contribute to the changes in enargite hydrophobicity under electrochemically-controlled oxidation conditions. Most likely, both surface species and surface roughness produced by oxidation are critical to the changes in the wettability of enargite and other sulfide minerals."

The bioremediation capability of Pseudomonas aeruginosa cells was investigated for the biosorption of lead ions from aqueous solution. The various parameters such as pH, kinetics, biomass loading and concentration of lead affecting the biosorption process were studied. Complete bio removal of lead could be achieved for an initial concentration of 12.4 mg/L at pH 6.2, corresponding to typical industrial effluents. The biosorption isotherm followed Langmuirian behavior and the Gibbs free energy (?G) was determined to be-30.8 kJ/mole, indicative of chemisorption between the functional groups of the bacterial surface and lead. The biosorption kinetics adhered to a pseudo-second order model. The possible mechanisms of interaction of lead with the bacterial cells are discussed. A carbon paste electrode with a coating of biomass was developed for lead ion detection in aqueous solution using cyclic voltammetric technique. Concentrations of lead up to 5x10-5 M could be successfully detected using cyclic voltammetry, which could be improved to a detection limit of 1x10-8 M adopting differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV). Ultra-fine Stirred Mill is a kind of high energy efficient equipment for ultra-fine grinding, and has been the mainstream equipment in the submicron powder and slurry industry. This paper mainly describes flow-field numerical simulation of the three popular ultra-fine grinding mills: (respective-ly as) Disc Stirred Mill, Pin Stirred Mill and Spiral Stirred Mill, by means of the software Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In the flow-field numerical simulation, the velocity gradient, shear rate dispersion of the flow-field, the viscosity dissipation rate were analyzed with CFD. It is discovered that Pin Stirred Mill has the highest velocity gradient in circular directions and the most homogeneous distribution of shear rate among the three. Flow-field numerical simulation provides a new way (and means to) for the parameter optimization design and project enlargement of Ultra-fine Stirred Mill. The experiments were also carried out, the results are consistent with the results of the simulation analysis. For example, in GCC grinding experiments under the same conditions, the specific energy consumption of Pin Stirred Mill with 3600L in volume is 15%~17% less, and its processing capability is 13%~15% better than Disc Stirred Mill. Now with its optimized structure and excellent performances, more than ten sets Pin Stirred Mill with 3600L in volume have been used in industrial production in Shandong, Guangdong and Hunan province.

"The aim of the study is to develop and scientifically justify a new adaptive approach to the separating processes of deep and complex processing technogenic mineral raw materials. Technogenic mineral resources as a waste of mining and processing industry are mostly complex objects that have specific features of material composition and technological properties and make it processing ineffective with traditional schemes of mineral raw materials enrichment. Mineral wastes are regarded in this study as a complex object with a large number of signs in conditions of uncertain environment and object. However, adaptation is regarded as the process management system’ adaptation to the specific the properties of the object and the environment that has several hierarchical levels corresponding to different stages in the management of complex object. An adaptive approach is considered as a methodological basis of multivariate schemes for opening the mineral resources and creating mechanisms that could transfer these potential technogenic resources to the actual that significantly expand the mineral resource base of the country's black, coloured, rare, noble metals and construction materials. In this case, potentially the solution to the most pressing social and environmental problems associated with the adverse effects of past economic activity simultaneously with the commercial objectives. This approach to the wastes mining and related processing manufacturers meets the core idea of sustainable development as the balance of interests of State, society, business, private enterprise and each person in the areas of rational use of resources, economic efficiency and environmental safety. On the example of metal-containing raw materials in the form of slags of ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, ferrous metallurgy sludge, mature fine tailings, the application of adaptive approach illustrates to the development of technologies of its deep and complex processing as phased, thoughtful movement from a comprehensive study of technogenic raw materials to build optimal topologies of technological schemes for processing the mineral wastes. INTRODUCTION Involving the Russian economy in the system of global economic relations significantly changes the nature of the country's competitiveness in the development of the world market and urgently requires competent management of its own natural and mineral resources. The latter at the present time in real economic processes cease to be a passive material foundation and become the producing basis in the production processes in the status of so-called natural capital. Introduced in the field of economic theory at the end of the 20th century, this term means both the flow of natural services and real natural resources. Consequently, natural objects, which act as natural resources of a certain production, today must necessarily be evaluated in a strategic sense. Modern standards of sustainable development presuppose that the economy should equally be oriented to balance the interests of the state, society, business, individual enterprise and each person in the spheres of rational use of resources, preservation of healthy ecosystems, ensuring well-being, high quality of life and environmental safety of not only the current generation, but also respect for the rights of future generations, that is, intergenerational equality. Most types of minerals are classified as non-renewable resources, therefore resource-saving in the sphere of mineral and raw materials complexes is one of the most important factors-indicators characterizing the degree of approximation to the model of rational subsoil use, and, consequently, sustainable development (State Report, 2017)."

"The rising demand for metals today, coupled with the scarcity of primary sources for raw materials threatens both technological advancements and industrial manufacturing. In order to meet the demand, metals and other resources trapped in waste streams, have to be harnessed. This philosophy supports circular economy, where metals and other resources are kept in a closed loop. The pickling acid recovery system of most stainless steel production is one such example where the dissolved metals such as iron, nickel and chromium are currently not completely recovered due to the limitations of the current technologies. The aim of this study was to assess the available metals recovery methods from extremely concentrated acids. The main aim is to simultaneously recover metals and keep sulphuric acid reusable in acid circulation process. From the available literature, the most promising methods were chosen for laboratory experiments. Based on experimental work, the results and observations of electrodeposition, solvent extraction, and freeze crystallization are provided. INTRODUCTION Pickling in stainless steel production is an essential surface treatment process (Regel-Rosocka, M. (2010); Agrawal and Sahu, 2009). It is applied for removing surface films such as oxides and chromium-depleted layers to improve the corrosion resistance and surface finish of steel (Regel-Rosocka, 2010). Whilst the process greatly improves the surface finish of the stainless steel, it generates large amount of used acid, containing dissolved metals including chromium, iron, and nickel (Agrawal and Sahu, 2009). Recovery of acid is common practice for most steel producing industries (Nyman and Koivunen, 1986). In this work, acid regeneration process is investigated so as to simultaneously reusing sulfuric acid and recovering the dissolved metals. Recovery of valuable metals even in very small amounts would also bring additional revenue to the steel production industry. At a time when metal production has also been challenged by lack of natural resources for raw materials, secondary sources for metals such as the acid pickling process therefore, have greater potential as supplements. From earlier studies, electrodeposition (Giovanardi and Orlando, 2011; Kuznetsov et al., 200; Rögener et al., 2012; Surviliene et al., 2006), solvent extraction (Alguacil and López 1996; Haghshenas et al., 2009; Kesieme et al., 2013) and freeze crystallization (Beyer et al.,2003; Hasan et al.,2017; Van der Ham et al., 1999) are some of the most established potential methods. Earlier studies have also shown that simultaneous recovery of acid and metals would require combination of different methods. This is primarily due to the nature of very stable metal containing complex compounds formed during pickling. These complexes must be broken down to free the metals for further recovery processes."

The reactivity of clay minerals and variety of these reactions are greater than any other known colloidal material. While it is acknowledged that clay minerals can cause problems in mineral flotation, the literature contains conflicting evidence, particularly with respect to the effect of clays on froth stability. It is well known that achieving and maintaining optimum froth stability is an influential factor in determining froth flotation performance. However, the presence of clay minerals in the ore is a major challenge to obtaining a stable froth. In fact, clay minerals could reduce froth flotation performance by both decreasing and increasing froth stability. The mechanism by which clay minerals affect froth stability is not fully understood and needs to be investigated further. In order to improve flotation performance, reliable knowledge of the effect of clay minerals on froth stability is essential which is discussed in this paper. The challenges of nature for the recovery of metals for a sustainable future continue to present in diverse ways. Base metal deposits are becoming lower grade and more complex. Rare earth metal demand is soaring and must certainly be met from new sources outside of China. Precious metals have soared in value due to increased industrial usage and the importance of these metals as financial instruments. Many of the future sources of precious metals are complex and difficult to process. The field of hydrometallurgy plays an important role in providing technology for extraction of these metals for a sustainable future. Selected examples from the base, rare and precious metals fields will be used to illustrate how current developments are providing metals for our future. The recovery of rare earths by beneficiation, leaching, purification, precipitation will be described from a multi-mineral deposit in Canada. The recovery of metals from complex base and precious metal ores may be accomplished using chloride ? assisted high temperature pressure leaching. Finally, by way of example, the enhanced Galvanox? process for treatment of chalcopyrite concentrates using silver-activated pyrite as a catalyst will be illustrated. This process offers a viable alternative to the conventional smelting of chalcopyrite copper concentrates.

Formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an oxidizing agent stronger than oxygen, by sulphide minerals during grinding was examined. It was found that pyrite (FeS2), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), sphalerite ((Zn, Fe) S), and galena (PbS) generated H2O2 in pulp liquid during wet grinding and also when the freshly ground solids are placed in water immediately after dry grinding. Pyrite produced more H2O2 than other minerals and the order of H2O2 production by the minerals was found to be pyrite > chalcopyrite > sphalerite > galena. The pH of the water influenced the extent of hydrogen peroxide formation with greater amounts of H2O2 produced at highly acidic pH. Furthermore, the effect of mixed sulphide minerals, i.e., pyrite-chalcopyrite, pyrite-galena, chalcopyrite-galena and sphalerite-pyrite, sphalerite-chalcopyrite and sphalerite-galena on the formation of H2O2 showed increasing H2O2 formation with increasing pyrite fraction. There is clear correlation of the amount of H2O2 production with the rest potential of the sulphide minerals; the greater the rest potential of a mineral the greater the formation of H2O2. This study highlights the necessity of revisiting the electrochemical and/or galvanic interactions between sulphide minerals, and interaction mechanisms between pyrite and other sulphide minerals in terms of their flotation behavior in the context of inevitable H2O2 existence in the pulp liquid.

"Predicting the liberation spectra that are produced from breakage of two-phase ores under the random fracture assumption can be accomplished by measuring the conditional, on length, linear grade distribution directly from images obtained from a representative sample of the unbroken texture. The technique tremendously simplifies the prediction problem by avoiding the multiple convolutions that arise from the traditional method based on a description of texture from a measurement of the chord length distributions associated with each phase in the unbroken texture. For a 3-phase system, the phase transition probabilities associated with the textural information make the traditional calculation an almost insurmountable mathematical problem. The direct measurement procedure on the other hand can be expanded to three phases comparatively easily.A coal sample is used here to demonstrate the procedure. It is concluded that the conditional, on length, linear grade distribution can be predicted in the same fashion for multi-phase systems. Accurate stereological conversion is the practical hurdle to be overcome for multi-phase systems, but it is already a reality for 3- phase systems."

With the growing environmental concern, as well as the increasing concern for sustainability of natural resources, the need of improving the performance and efficiency of today?s crushers is be-coming increasingly important. However, the development of existing crushers requires an extended basic knowledge about the crushing process itself. The aim of the present study is therefore to find the theoretically optimal way of crushing compressively under given circumstances. In the present paper, optimizations have been performed with the purposes of maximizing product yield and minimizing energy consumption. Performed on an ideal crushing stage free from physical limitations, the optimization results have been obtained in terms of number of compressions and their corresponding compression ratios. Complementing earlier results on interparticle breakage (Hulthén et al., 2006), presented here are thus the results from corresponding optimizations with single particle breakage and interparticle breakage. It is concluded that modern crushers are not working optimally in any of the studied aspects for gneiss. In fact, optimizations indicate that a lowering of the compression ratio, as well as a shortening of the crushing sequence, are theoretically favourable. The outcome of this study is therefore highly promising as to giving new ideas and suggestions of improvements in existing crushers, and can even result in redesign of compression crushers.

"After almost 100 years, since the first commercial application began in Australia, flotation has shown an extraordinary growth and nearly 2 billion tons of ore per year are presently treated by flotation processes. During this time flotation has promoted a wide scope of research activities ranging from fundamental chemistry and hydrodynamic studies to studies of industrial operations. In general, fundamental studies have been mainly related to ideal situations. In recent years, however, large efforts have been focusing on achieving a better insight into the actual sub-processes provided by the development of new and more sophisticated instrumentation. Since the massive incorporation of flotation columns, around 15 years ago, a renewed interest in flotation fundamental studies, process modelling and new cell designs have been observed worldwide. The key role of the froth has been recognized as an independent and sometimes rate limiting process step. Thus, separation of pulp and froth process stages seems the most appropriate in terms of process modelling, diagnostic, design and scale-up purposes.In relation to flotation equipment development, until the middle of the 1970’s, only the sub-aeration mechanical cells were dominant. Since the 1980’s, the use of pneumatic cells and forced air mechanical cells has emerged strongly. Also, in the last decade, flotation equipment has shown a dramatic increase in size, reaching values of 200m3 in unitary mechanical cells and more than 300m3 in columns. The general feeling, however, is that, despite the great advance observed in terms of process knowledge, the mechanisms and principles of industrial flotation cells design and scale-up are still not fully understood.Advances in process instrumentation and control now in use allow for more efficient operations, both in metallurgical performance and savings in operating costs."

Since the last decade, we find more and more examples of filter presses employed in the mining & mineral processing field, where high performances in terms of productivity, dewatering capacity and mechanical strength even in extreme working conditions are required. Mainly the requirement of such high quality equipment comes from the Process, however in few cases the reason could be linked with the environment. "From a lifecycle point of view, biologically digested sludge is a valuable product that should be reused if possible. Sludge may be applied to agricultural land for further sludge treatment and improvement of the characteristics of the soil. The characteristics of sludge that affect its applicability for soil conditioning include moisture content, pathogens, nutrients and metals. In this paper, the use of solid anaerobic digestion sludge of the lignocellulosic residues to condition soil was investigated in regards to nutrient composition, water content/retention capacity, hygienic quality (contamination of pathogenic bacteria) and heavy metal adsorbing/releasing characteristics of the sludge.It was found that the digested sludge had approximately 44.5% free and immobilized water and 46.9% bound water. The water-holding capacity of the sludge was high. This was a merit to apply the sludge to agriculture in dry areas. Anaerobic digestion under thermophilic conditions showed a promising disinfecting effect to the sludge, in contrast to the landfill digestion. The anaerobic digestion sludge could be considered as a humus-rich hygienic product that improves soil fertility and water holding capacity, nourishes plants and immobilizes heavy metals in the environment"

In this paper, the problem of sedimentation and consolidation of poly-disperse suspensions is considered. The solid particles are assumed to be of different densities. If the sediment solids stresses are dropped out of the system equations and using the Richardson and Zaki hindered settling model, it has been found that in the limit, i.e., as time approaches infinity, the fluid is completely displaced to the top of the sediment zone. Furthermore, the species segregate completely with the heavier and coarser particles at the bottom of the sediment and the lighter and finer particles at the top of the sediment. Practical observations do not support these behaviors and physical-ly such behaviors do not exist; consequently, results of this kind in the literature are unrealistic. Here, a mathematical structure of the poly-disperse sedimentation and consolidation problem has been proposed. In this case the compaction zone species solids stresses are introduced in the momentum balance equations of the system. The species solid stresses in the sediment are constrained so that the system equations are consistent, i.e., sedimentation and consolidation of two or more identical species should behave as a mono-disperse system. Such a condition has not been recognized and imposed in some of the studies in the literature, which has led to unreliable results. Two practical forms of species stresses that satisfy the system consistency condition are here proposed. It should be noted that the study of sedimentation and consolidation of poly-disperse suspensions could result in more realistic suspension interfaces compared to mono-disperse suspensions, and could lead to more reliable engineering designs of tailings ponds. Predictions of sedimentation and consolidation in models of poly-disperse suspensions are demonstrated using published data.
