Studies of the dense medium and classifying cyclone have been conducted using the Fluent computational fluid dynamics code. Experimental measurements of the segregation of medium in a DM cyclone by gamma-ray tomography and the performance of a novel classifying cyclone design have been used to test and interpret the 3D CFD predictions. The predictions of the CFD models were generally plausible, though more work is required to incorporate turbulent mixing of the slurry in the cyclone. The benefits of the novel cyclone design were explained by the model in terms of conditions favouring reduction of short-circuiting at the vortex finder, and the removal of the air core from the wall at the apex. Work is continuing.

According to the unique properties and many applications of nano silver powder, it was prepared from acid leaching tail solution. The low value residual gold and silver ions were occurred with fellow heavy metals as pollutants (Fe2+, Cu 2+and Zn2+) in acid leaching tail solution in Mouteh gold mine in Iran. Preparation of nano silver particles was achieved in two steps: first, by addition of ammonia as separation step and second by using different reagents as precipitation and extraction steps. Different controlled parameters were including pH, residence time and temperature, mixing time, and reducing reagents to metals molar ratio. Acid leaching process was carried out with sulphuric and nitric acid via suitable reductants. In order to remove copper, zinc, and silver ions from solution, all of the conditions were controlled. The optimum conditions for preparation of nano silver powder with less than 90 nm were pH 10.5, hydrazine/methanol to silver molar ratio of 3 to 4, and reduction time of 5 min in 45 °C. The results were evaluated via SEM, A.A and UV- Vis spectroscopy analytical methods.

In order to produce the iron and steel products with high quality and decrease the output of steel tailings, the quality of molten iron is a critical factor for iron and steel companies, especially the content of sulfidic in molten iron. Hot metal pre-treatment, an important and effective method to desulphur, is widely used in steel production. Millions of tons of slag from desulphurization and slag skimming are produced each year in China, and many more times this amount is stored in slag dams because of the lack of effective means to deal with it. In order to achieve the goal of sustain-able development, recycling these slag becomes necessary. The main objective of this paper is to study the composition characteristics of slag that from desulphurization and slag skimming. The sample was obtained from Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corporation, processed by hot metal pre-treatment. In this study, the chemical components and the mineral compositions of sample were tested. The results of chemical components and iron chemistry phase analysis showed that the iron and sulphide content in this sample were high, and the iron products existed mainly in the form of magnetite, metallic iron, ferrosilite. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) results indicated that the sample included metallic iron, ferrate, wustite, metasilicate, aluminate, aluminosilicate, white lime and soon. Grading magnetic separation test work showed that magnetic separation was an effective method to recovery iron products and decrease the sulphide content in concentrate, and the tailing could be used as the raw material or padding in cement production.

"Three important components of stirred tanks involved in energy consumption, the impellers and baffles, were investigated to intensify the agitation pretreatment on the flotation of nickel ores. Flotation tests revealed that the stirred tanks with two impellers had an advantage over those with one impeller in intensifying agitation pretreatment, and the higher agitation speed led to better flotation performance of nickel ores. Installation and removal of baffles were also employed in the stirred tanks, and flotation tests demonstrated that with baffles, the flotation grade increased significantly. These agitator design improvements were used to demonstrate that the energy supplied to the system significantly influences the flotation recovery and that if the energy consumption of the agitation pretreatment is ideal, flotation efficiency can be improved. Data from full-scale operations backed up these results.INTRODUCTIONThe flotation recovery of nickel-copper sulphide ore at the Western China nickel mine has historically been difficult due to the presence of large amounts of serpentine minerals (Feng, et al., 2012). Many studies reported that serpentine minerals tend to have a positive potential at pH values up to 9.5, while sulphides (such as pentlandite and chalcopyrite) have a low isoelectric point(Feng, et al., 2012). Serpentine minerals can form surface coatings on negatively charged sulphides surface due to electrostatic attraction when they interact with each other, which may also reduce collector adsorption and increase the hydrophilicity of the sulphide particles. In order to improve the flotation of nickel sulphides, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium silicate, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and other agents are used to disperse serpentine coating from sulphide surfaces in the flotation of the Jinchuan deposit and other nickel ores in China ( Kirjavainen and Heiskanen, 2007; Lu, et al., 2011). However, it is difficult to improve of the sulphide flotation due to the high dosage and the lack of selectivity."

A moderately thermophilic acidophiles strain had been isolated from the bio-heap leaching plant in Zijinshan Copper Mine, and the identification based on the PCR-16S rRNA gene sequence homology analysis with morphologic and physiologic methods was conducted by polyphasic taxono-my and phylogeny research. The results show that the strain by depurated belongs to Acidthiobacillus genus and is considered as Acidthiobacillus albertensis.

About 90% of the barytes produced the world over is used for oil and gas drilling as weighting agent in drilling mud to control pressure, prevent blow out and provide lubrication. This is because of its unique properties like high specific gravity, water insolubility and intentness. India is one of the leading producers and exporters of barites. The Mangampeth Baryte deposit in Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh, India being the largest single deposit in the world having a reserves of about 80 million tonnes. Approximately 50% of the total reserves of grey barites of Mangampet deposit assays less than 92% BaSO4, the minimum stipulated grade for oil and gas drilling industries. To reach and recover the high grade barite, the overlying low grade has necessarily to be mined out and removed. At present this is being stacked separately at the mine site involving lot of labour and transport cost. Considerable barites is contained in the dumps adversely affecting the conservation and creating lot of environmental hazards. IBM being the premier organization in India in the field of conservation of minerals and environmental protection in mining has recognized the importance of adverse effect of these huge dumps at site. The Ore Dressing Division of IBM, Nagpur has characterized these dumps and developed the flotation process on a sample assaying 66% BaSO4 and 23.3% SiO2. The flotation concentrate obtained assayed 93.7% BaSO4, 2.38% SiO2 with BaSO4 recovery of 80% and meets the requirement of the oil industry. The flotation concentrate being non-wetable, can not be used as such as weighting agent, and hence the collector coating on the concentrate was removed either by acid treatment or heating to make it water wetable. The concentrate was 92% -325 mesh and having a specific gravity 4.3. The barites concentrates so produced meets the size, grade and specific gravity specifications required for use in oil drilling industry. Apart from the financial benefits the process augurs well for the commercial exploitation of these huge dumps in terms of (1) additional recovery of these valuable minerals and conservation, (2) reduction in dumps value, (3) improvement in environment and offering an excellent potential for export.

"The wastewater emitted by gold chemical industry contained vast of different heavy metal ion, such as Zn, Cu and Ni etc. Among them Zn is the main ion in the waste water which causes the serious environment pollution. A method of preparing a kind of resin which is used for the removal of Zn by magnetic adsorbent was developed and was applied in practice. This adsorbent is a chitosan made of a kind of Fe3O4-chitosan modified by epichlorohydrin. The adsorption capacity of the absorbent and it was concluded that under the laboratory conditions, the maximum adsorbing capacity of this adsorbent could be 287.58 mg/g. The absorbent was also applied in the wastewater emitted by a gold industry in Shandong province. Its performance was tested and the result showed that the concentration of Zn ion in the wastewater was reduced from 0.58 mg/L to 0.0174 mg/L. What is more, the adsorption rate could be more than 97% when the dosage was 100L/m3 after adsorbing for 1h. Many different metals participate to this reaction besides the gold ion in this processing, so that the composition of the water is very complex. The waste water emitted by gold chemistry industry contains large amount of heavy metals. Definitely, if it was discharged without any treatment, the water would threaten the environment. The recuperation of any ion in the water would mitigate the pollution. Ion exchange resin, which is an effective material to do the water treatment with low cost, became widely applicated in this field [Yu-jiao Wang,2013]. Different kinds of resin were developed and the influence factors such as pH, adsorption properties and selectivity for different ions were investigated [CA Cruz et al,2018; PawanKumar et al.2016; Y Zhang, et al,2010; and ShengingSun, Aiqin Wang, 2006;]. The waste water mentioned in this article has a high Zn concentration, so a magic resin for Zn adsorption selectively we designed was used to manage this water. And the recovery of Zn could not only contribute to pollution abatement but also a best way to settle a dispute to the short of Zn resource. So the article mainly describes the preparation and the application of a kind of magnetic adsorbent used for the removal of Zn both in laboratory and industry. The Mount Isa copper concentrator started operation in 1973. Its secondary grinding circuit consisted of two 5 meters diameter ball mills in closed circuit with 505 mm cyclones. At the design throughput of 800 t/h, the 80% passing size of the circuit product (P80) was about 140 µm. The then Mount Isa Mines Limited (?MIM?) installed two autogenous grinding (?AG?) mills in 1991 to replace two stages of crushing, a rod milling stage and one primary ball milling stage. One of the AG mills was later converted to semi-autogenous grinding (?SAG?) operation by the addition of a steel grinding medium to achieve the designed plant throughput of 800 t/h. The cyclone over-flow P80of the secondary ball mill circuit was reduced to 120 µm by the increased operating power in the AG/SAG mill circuits. The two secondary balls mills had a grinding power of 5.2 MW. A mineralogical study of the milled products indicated that half of this grinding power was sufficient for adequate chalcopyrite liberation. Eliminating one of the secondary ball mills could reduce energy and operating costs by more than A$2 million dollars per year. An optimisation project team was established to achieve the predicted power saving. Grinding circuit simulations were conducted for different circuit configurations. Ball mill parameters such as ball size, ball charge and feed slurry density were optimised. Cyclone body diameter, spigot and vortex finder sizes, and cyclone types were tested. The secondary ball mill circuit was redesigned and several proposed circuits were run as trial production campaigns to determine their operability and efficiency. The plant trials confirmed that one of the secondary ball mills could be decommissioned. Significant cost savings were achieved as a result. The success of the project demonstrates optimising grinding circuits can not only deliver the plant performance, but also a much lower unit operating cost through energy and maintenance savings.

"The recovery of copper and iron from carbonaceous sulfide ore is of economic and environmental interest despite its processing difficulty. Hydrometallurgical methods can be used to concentrate sulfide metals of these hard-to treat ores in a simple and eco-friendly manner. In this study, high pressure acid leaching process was comprehensively studied to dissolve metals from an ore with organic carbon and carbonaceous gangue material using autoclave equipment. The sample used for the experiment was reduced to an average particle size of 75 µm after undergoing flotation to reduce carbonaceous gangue minerals. A comparative study on two leaching reagents of sulfuric acid and iron sulfate and their dosage was used to observe dissolution of copper and iron. Other parameters of temperature (90-170 0C), solid-liquid ratio (1:10, 1:5, 1:3 and 1:1) were investigated through kinetic studies to access the influence of organic carbon and carbonaceous material on recovery of copper and iron. Materials balancing analysis was used to evaluate the efficiency of metal dissolution. The effects of parameters on leaching rate and concentration was demonstrated. Results obtained from the experiment indicated low concentrations of copper and iron in pregnant leached solutions, which was attributed to acid consumption by organic carbon and carbonaceous material in feed. However, the high efficiency rates of 92.4% and 86.3 % for copper and iron respectively in sulfuric acid can be concluded that leaching of concentrates of carbonaceous ore is possible provided system control on type of acid, pH and temperature. The purpose of this research is important in understanding mechanism involved in dissolution of copper and iron in concentrates of carbonaceous ore and marks an improvement in leaching of highly contaminated ores."

In this study, approximately 3 tons of coal sample taken from thickener entrance was prepared by mineral processing techniques and cleaned by gravity methods. The samples were classified to 5 size fractions by wet screening. The size fractions of +1mm and -1 +0.500 mm were chosen for direct consumption or cleaning by spirals. The studies by Multi Gravity Separator (MGS) were carried out with the -0.500 +0.280 mm and -0.280 +0.020 mm size fractions where the -0.020 mm fraction does not used in the experiments. The clean coal fractions of +1 mm and -1 +0.500 mm obtained by classification were subjected to lower calorific value (LCV), ash and total sulphur analyses. The results were 4168-4946 kcal/kg (on dry basis), 31.01-38.54 % ash and 4-4.27 % total sulphur content respectively. The results of the clean coal concentrated by MGS experiments in -0.500 +0.280 mm fraction was found 5918 kcal/kg LCV, 19.82 % ash content and 80.47 % combustible recovery. The results for the -0.280 +0.020mm fraction were 6004 kcal/kg LCV, 19.19 % ash content, 80.47 % combustible recovery respectively. With reference to the above experimental results, pre-economic evaluation studies were completed and decided to construct an additional unit to the plant. Capacity of the constructed unit is 75.000 t/y which corresponds $ 2.600.000 income in a year. General Directorate of Turkish Coal Enterprises concluded to apply this project to the other coal washing plants in the country due to the successful results of this study and laboratory studies has been going on by MTA currently. The low-grade iron ore sample contains both lumps and fines. It is mostly hematitic iron ore and considerable amount of goethitic/limonitic material is present in it. The major impurities present were quartz and clay. It is observed that the iron bearing phases are poorly liberated above 300 µm and the liberation improves below 300 µm. More than 80% liberation is achieved below 106 µm. Based on the liberation data, the feed for the different beneficiation methods was prepared by stage crushed the ROM followed by grinding passing to 106µm and the ground material (-106µm) was deslimed. The underflow was subjected to various beneficiation techniques such as tabling, enhanced gravity separator (EGS), wet high intensity magnetic separation (WHIMS), and flotation and the results are discussed. All the methods studied could able to produce pellet grade concentrate with iron content of 64.5%, however, a marginal higher yield was observed for WHIMS (81%). Today, arsenic has become a much greater problem than before because of the limitations introduced by WHO and USEPA that are lowered from 0.05 ppm to 0.01 ppm. In the nature Arsenic is mostly found as inorganic compounds in the forms of arsenite (As+3) and arsenate (As+5) in aqueous solutions. Arsenic contamination in ground and surface waters has been encountered in almost every country. This element has a carcinogenic effect and can occur in natural sources and anthropogenic sources such as metal mining, groundwater usage and industrial activities. In this study adsorbing colloid flotation was applied in the presence of aluminum sulfates. In the experiments SDS and K-Oleate were used as collectors while MIBC was the frother employed. The effects of collectors and aluminum/arsenic ratios on the removal of arsenic were examined under various pH values. It was found that arsenic removal enhanced with increasing aluminum concentration. Furthermore, it was observed that pH was a very critical parameter in all experiments. The best results were obtained when initial As: SDS: Al concentrations were 10:40:40 ppm at pH 5.5. At this concentration, the efficiency of arsenic removal found to be 99.9%. Using pure quartz and hematite minerals, the adsorption mechanism of mixed cationic/anionic reagent schemes was investigated through Hallimond flotation studies. The flotation response of quartz and hematite independently with cationic and anionic collectors as well as with mixed cationic/anionic collector systems is assessed. The flotation response as a function of pH and collector concentration was investigated. The single mineral flotation tests in the presence of anionic collectors, quartz does not respond to flotation, but the C12 amine flotation of quartz was observed to be pH and concentration dependent. It was observed that hematite flotation recovery is maximum at acidic pH with sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), neutral pH with oleate, and at basic pH about 9.5 with C12 amine. Flotation results with both quartz and hematite indicate an increased adsorption of cationic collector in the presence of anionic collector apart from its own co-adsorption. The incorporation of oleate in between C12 amine molecules decreases the electrostatic head-head repulsion and thereby increasing the adsorption of C12 amine due to attractive tail-tail hydrophobic bonds, besides forming a closely packed adsorbed layer enhancing the hydrophobicity. The increase in oleate concentration beyond C12 amine concentration leads to the formation of soluble C12 amine-oleate complex / precipitate and the adsorption of these species decreased the flotation since the alkyl chains are in chaotical orientation with a conceivable number of head groups directing towards the solution phase. The separation in gravity concentrators is based on the density difference between valuable and gangue minerals. In addition to density, many auxiliary parameters like particle size, shape, feed rate, pulp density etc. plays an important role in the separation. The performance efficiency of gravity units is largely based on the interference of such auxiliary parameters during separation. Many gravity concentrators are used for the beneficiation of cassiterite ores and performance of which are varying with different feed material, particle size and required enrichment from the unit. Selection of gravity units is generally based on laboratory testing and data collected from the previous experience. In the present investigation cassiterite ore collected from Uljin deposit, South Korea has been subjected to various gravity units like jig, spiral, and Knelson concentrator with the intension to pre-concentrate the ore. Second stage concentration was carried out using shaking tables. The article mainly summarizes performance evaluation methods employed for gravity concentrators. Selection of gravity circuit for the beneficiation of cassiterite was made on the basis of the recovery-grade curve, and Tromp curve methods. Bor flotation tailings are very interesting from two reasons: first, is having due value presently, and second represent serious pollutant into this region of Balkan. This paper is only one small part of investigation about processing of valuable minerals from tailings, and desulphurization of this biggest pollutant in the same time, by refloating. The main objective of this work is to pay attention on this problem for resolve greatest environ-mental problem of Serbia and Balkan in the nearly future. Bor is potential regional risk spot, since that failure of its tailings dams would release high amounts of toxic materials that would reach the Danube River. The basic goal of this experimental investigation was finding some possibility for flotation tailings treatment by classical froth flotation. In order was obtained material effect through copper recovery, and environmental protection by moving the rest of reprocessing into the safe place. The work present obtained results of laboratory tests in two laboratories: laboratory of mineral and recycling technology at the faculty in Bor, and laboratory of department of mineral processing of ITNMS in Belgrade.

Mechanism of BK501 in desiliconization from bauxite was studied by use of flotation test, EDS, ?-potential, FTIR. Results of flotation show that almost all of diaspore can be depressed when BK501 is put into pulp ranging from pH 4~12, in the meanwhile kaolinite is slightly activated. In the light of surface analyses, it is concluded that the adsorption of reagent on the diaspore is dominant by chemical interaction. Moreover, kaolinite may float more by addition of BK501 because of flocculation.

The proposal of the nip zone angle determination in HPGR crushing process is presented in the paper. Knowledge of the nip zone angle value, in turn, makes it possible to determine the real maximum pressing force in the high-pressure comminution. Two methods of determination of this maximum pressure were proposed and verified. The first method is based on the roll?s geometry, and the change of the HPGR chamber?s volume together with the roll rotation, while the second one considers the outlet gap width impact. Results of the nip zone angle calculations according to both methods are similar and show convergence with the real operating conditions. The verification was carried out in a piston-die press, and experimental results show that methodology of the nip zone angle determination presented in the paper has its practical confirmation. A proper determination of the nip zone border makes it possible to calculate the comminution probability of given type of material and is a basis for the HPGR crushing process modeling and optimization. This work is based on surface chemical properties of bacteria during adaptation to high grade copper minerals and the projected consequences in Bio-Flotation process. The utility of bio-processing in the beneficiation of copper ore through bio-flotation is demonstrated. An autotroph Acidithiobacillus Ferrooxidans bacterium is adapted to high grade mixed copper ore sample by repeated subcultures. The surface characteristics were studies by analyses at different pH and time intervals. From the studies, it was established that the mineral-adapted cells became more hydrophobic as compared to unadapted cells during bio-flotation. As core part of flotation column, aerator has been always priority research. A new type of porous aerator made of stainless sintered microcellular material is designed , which diameter is between 20µm to 40µm. High bubble surface area flux is obtained at low air pressure 20kPa by this type of aerator in water. In order to extend its applied range ,experiments were carried out in alkali slurry (pH=12) , resulting with porous aerator clogged after working 20 days . Sampling the cross-section of aerator detected by microscope and X-ray diffraction ,the reason clogging was found. Then plugging aerator was reactivated after putting it in acidic liquor treated by ultrasonic for about ten minutes. On-line aerator maintenance can be done in no down time , and it can be repetitive-used after recovered ,so reduced capital costs.
