It is a well-known fact that usage of reverse cationic flotation in magnetite ores processing enables to improve the quality of magnetite concentrates. We designed an iron ore concentrate technology (with 70 -71 % of iron) including reverse cationic flotation in pneumo-mechanical flotators RIF (developed by RIVS Corporation, Russia) with good biodegradable etheramines as collectors for flotation of quartz. Practical application of high biodegradable flotation reagents decreases environmental impact risk of objects and enterprises of mining industrial complex. This work presents results of development of flotation technology for production of high quality ferruginous concentrates from magnetite ores of Russia and Ukraine deposits. Phenyl malonic acid (PMA), a new chelating collector, which contains a phenyl structure and a malonic acid chelating group, has been synthesized and its collecting capabilities to calamine, hematite, quartz and hemimorphite are also studied in laboratory. From the experimental results, it can be seen that the PMA has somewhat flotation ability to calamine, hematite and quartz, while it nearly has no collecting ability to hemimorphite. With the increase of PMA concentration, the flotation recovery of calamine increases. When the dosage of PMA was 560g/t and at pH=7~9, the flotation recovery of calamine gets its maximum of 45.94%. The test results about the influence of pH on the flotation recovery of quartz show that the flotation recovery increases with the increase of pH, and the maximal flotation recovery can be gained in alkaline media. On the other hand, PMA has stronger flotation capability to hematite than to other minerals. The flotation recovery of minerals increases with increase of PMA concentration. When the dosage of PMA is 560g/t and at pH=5~7, the flotation recovery of hematite is 82.96%. Mean-while, the influence of pH on the flotation recovery of hematite was studied and test results showed that, as pH increases, the flotation recovery sharply rises until pH=4, then the increasing rate de-creases outstandingly, at pH=6 the flotation recovery reaches its maximum of 82.96% and it de-creases speedily in alkaline media. Finally, through the measurement of infrared spectroscopy and in terms of solution chemistry of collector, the flotation mechanism has been discussed. It was concluded that the adsorption of PMA on minerals surface is chemical adsorption in nature through two oxygen atoms in the polar group of phenyl malonic acid chelating with the metal ions of minerals surface to form a hexagon-cycle chelate complex: C(=O)-O-M-O-(O=)C.

"This paper reports the hydrometallurgical treatment of gravity concentrates of gold samples and outcrops associated with graphite ores obtained from:- flotation tailings of crystalline graphite minerals- outcrop samples of graphitic rock associated with auriferous minerals and free gold located in the Villa Union district and surrounding areas - La Rioja Province - Argentina.Previous studies of the flotation potential of crystalline graphite minerals failed to consider the presence of noble metals.The samples represent a mineralized zone of crystalline graphite which is distributed in different formations with a NE - SW trend in Maz, Punta Colorada and Las Ramaditas hills, covering an area of about 300 square kilometers.The most important variables affecting the leaching process, such as grain size, mineralogical species, reagent consumption, and so on, were previously studied. (Weiss, L.1985)On the basis of the present study results, the possible definition of an economically viable mineralization will be analyzed to define an auriferous district."

Results of the study targeted to development of universal acidic-extraction-precipitation technology for gallium recovery from the sublimates are presented in the paper. This will let to utilize a new non-traditional source for gallium production. Phase composition of gallium containing dust was studied. Forms of gallium in the sublimates were determined. The main form is Ga2O3, however, GaP form is also present in the cottrel dust and Na5Ga3F14 form is present in the dust of aluminum electrolysis. The possibility of gallium concentration was established via secondary pyro-selection of the dust. Kinetics of interaction of dust components with sulfuric acid was studied. The products of the interaction subsequently were leached with water. Optimum conditions for direct leaching with HCl and H2SO4 were determined providing gallium recovery from the cottrel dust and the ash carry outs up to 95 %. Gallium recovery from the primary dust and the secondary dust of aluminum electrolysis was at 52; 64 % and 63; 83 % respectively. Effect of Fe, P, K, Na and Al admixtures for gallium extraction from hydrochloric acid solutions was studied. It was shown that gallium chloride complex (GaCl4-) is extracted into the organic phase from the following acid mixtures: HCl + H2SO4, HCl + H3PO4, HCl + H2SO4 + H3PO4, HCl + HF. Kinetic regularities of gallium extraction in the system (tri butyl phosphate) TBP ? HCl - Ga were studied using diffusion cell method with agitation. Optimum conditions for gallium extraction from complex hydrochloric acid solutions with TBP were found providing 99.9 % recovery and separation coefficient for gallium and iron (III) of more than 25 in one stage. Sodium hydroxide and water were selected as reagents for re-extraction of gallium from the organic phase. Different options for disposal of by-products that are formed in the processing of cottrel dust, ash sublimates and dust of aluminum electrolysis were proposed and tested. There are various types of natural zeolite deposits in Turkey. Naturally occurring zeolites are excluded from many important commercial applications where uniformity and purity are essential. In this paper, the beneficiation of natural zeolite, taken from western part of Turkey, was investigated. According to X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and mineralogical studies carried out on the representative ore sample, the natural zeolite was found to be in the forms of clinoptilolite and heulandite. Clinoptilolite forms as a devitrification product of volcanic glass in tuffs. Quartz, clay minerals, orthoclase, plagioclase, biotite, seruzite-muskovite and epidote were observed as impurities. Several types of mineral processing methods were performed in order to remove impurities from the natural zeolite sample to produce high purity zeolite. Gravity separation methods such as shaking table and superpanner were carried out for separating heavy minerals, while high intensity dry magnetic separation was used for discarding magnetic minerals.

A rare earth deposit in Sichuan, China is rich in wulfenite in addition to bastnaesite and barite, and the deposit has already adopted high intensity magnetic separation technique to pre-enrich the rare earth minerals, during which the wulfenite and barite have been left in the non-magnetic product. Because the chemical composition of wulfenite is only 24.17% Mo and 42.15% Pb, it is very hard to obtain qualified lead or molybdenum concentrates by physical separation process. To pre-concentrate the wulfenite, flotation has been first introduced, and by using 100g/t GY-7 as dispersant, 1500g/t CP-1 as depressant and 160g/t GY-4 as collector, a floatation concentrate assaying 15.52% Mo with a recovery of 86.12% was obtained. Then a leaching process was conducted by using 1.2mol/L Na2S as leaching agent, and molybdenum can be translated into sodium molybdate in the solution with a leaching recovery of 99%. To recover rare earth oxides (REO) and lead from the leaching residue, a magnetic separation process has been conducted. Above all, by the whole process, the molybdenum recovery reaches 86.16% in the sodium molybdate solution, and a lead concentrate assaying 54.59% Pb with recovery of 27.99% could be obtained.

In this study, batch flotation experiments were conducted to recover rare earth elements (REE) from an REE ore deposit in the Mushgai Khudag area, Mongolia. Apatite was found to be the major REE mineral while monazite and xenomite were observed as minor minerals. The main purpose was to float apatite to increase the REE content. Oleic acid was used as collector and MIBC was used as frother. Sodium silicate was used as a depressant for iron compounds. NaOH was used to adjust the pH of the flotation to about 9.5~10.0. The particle size was 90% less than 152 ?m (- 100 mesh). The content of REE elements was analysed by ICP - OES to determine the contents of REE such as Ce, La, Nd, Pr and Y. When sodium silicate was used, the best result was obtained using 0.2 mL of sodium silicate, 2 mL of oleic acid and 2 mL of MIBC. Under these conditions, the recovery of REE was about 78% and the grade of the first froth product was 42,995 ppm Ce, 24,088 ppm La, 14,236 ppm Nd, 4,388 ppm Pr and 1,570 ppm Y. When conducting flotation after iron minerals were removed by magnetic separation, a better result was obtained; with 2 mL of oleic acid, 2 mL of MIBC and no sodium silicate, the recovery was increased to 90% and the grade was also increased to 58,600 ppm Ce, 28,624 ppm La, 17,160 ppm Nd, 5,348 ppm Pr and 1,971 ppm Y.

There are discussed the possibilities of using of flotation tailings of platinum-copper-nickel sulfide ores of the Norilsk region for the preparation of backfill mixture instead of a specially produced rock and binder materials to reduce the cost of stowing operations and impact on the environment. It is shown that due to the presence in the tailings of flotation up to 10% of sulfide sulphur, which reduces the strength of the fill materials, and more than 1 g/t PGM it is necessary the preliminary extraction of the sulfides in the product for further processing that give an opportunity to reduce the losses of valuable components. It is shown that by the flotation of the current tailings it is possible to extract 91% of sulfide sulphur, 60% of palladium and 30% platinum in 17% sulfide concentrate containing 2.1 g/t palladium, and to reduce the sulphur content in the tailings up to 0.7%. Due to the easy oxidation of pyrrhotite, there is recommended fractional delivery of the collector with a total consumption 200 g/t. There are discussed results of the flotation study with an additional collector of PGM (sodium diizobutyditiophosfinate), which one show the possibility to increase extraction of platinum on 45%, as well as extraction of sulphur and palladium. For the flotation of sulfides and PGM from the current tailings there is recommended a combination of collectors for primary flotation and only butyl xanthate using in control operations. The possibility of using sludge fraction of the current tailings as a component for the preparation of the combined cementing materials after exposure of sulfides is analyzed. It is shown that the efficiency of the flotation of sulfides from this fraction can be enhanced using selective flocculants. There are discussed the advantages of implementation of completely hydrophobic butadiene-styrene copolymer in comparison with partially hydrophobic polymers. There is discussed an efficiency of the mechanochemical treatment of old tailings in turbo mill and sulphuric acid to remove oxide films from the surface of pyrrhotite before its flotation. Due to the pretreatment operation there is achieved increasing of sulphur extraction and after the introduction to the flotation circuit three control operations there is produced the fill material with sulphur content 2.5%. The solubility of wollastonite and its Hallimond flotation behavior as a function of dodecylamine concentration and pH are examined. The flotation response is characterized by adsorption and surface energy in the presence of amine. The methods of UV-Visible and FT-IR spectroscopy for adsorption and sessile-drop contact angle for surface energy estimation are employed. The results of wollastonite dissolution clearly showed its non uniform dissolution. The surfaces are depleted with calcium ions and became rich in silicon within 10 min of flotation time. Maximum flotation of wollastonite corresponds to a half monolayer coverage of amine, which is substantiated by the surface energy parameters. A good correlation between flotation, adsorption and surface energy as a function of amine concentration and pH was observed. The sudden increase in wollastonite flotation and amine adsorption at and above 5x10-5 M initial amine concentration is thought to be due to two-dimensional precipitation of amine on surface in accordance with the recent 2D-3D precipitation model of amine adsorption on silicate minerals.

"CFM pneumatic flotation machines were developed by the Institute of Materials Science and Metallurgy, UrFU, and designed to concentrate a wide range of ores and man-made materials. A key principle of work is pulp preparation for flotation owing to its saturation with finely dispersed air bubbles in ejectors. CFM plants, their advantages over domestic and foreign prototypes are described. CFM pneumatic machine commercialization resulted in: - machines demonstrated high floatation efficiency for concentration of rebellious pyrrhotite-bearing copper and zink by simultaneous floatation of copper and zinc minerals and depressing pyrrhotite. CFM- 1400M introduction allowed simplifying and optimizing the flow chart and increase extraction of copper - by 5.4%, zinc - by 9.5% and improve the quality of copper (3% Cu) and zinc (1.5% Zn) concentrates. - due to copper pyrite concentration by using CFM 1400M overall copper recovery was increased by 1.5 %, and the content of copper in concentrates - by1%. According to the results of pilot runs, the use of CFM flotation for zinc cakes concentration strongly intensifies the process of cleaning water-soluble metal compounds and, thereby, increases the efficiency of flotation concentration and subsequent milling. CFM machines showed higher specific capacity (three or four times higher) (both for feed material and froth product). Specifically, CFM froth product has higher content of useful elements (silver by 0.014 % abs. zinc by 0.31% abs.) and better extraction (silver by 6.08% abs., zinc by 0.31% abs., and sulfide sulfur by 13.7 %). Sulfide sulfur content of CFM product chamber as compared to mechanical flotation machines is two times lower (0.48 vs. 0.95 %)."

"In this paper, we present the study’s results of electrical separation processes on the basis of new separator designs, new technological solutions, and newly discovered effects. We considered the options of enrichment by magnet separation of magnetite and titanomagnetite ores, ores and products containing chromium and manganese, ores of non-ferrous and precious metals. During pneumo-electric separation of mixed iron ore of SMPC, 43.3% of the output of the concentrate with an iron content of 61.7% was obtained in one step, with extraction of 70.5%. The paper also presents the results of the finalization on the air-electric separator of the magnetic fraction when separating oxidized ores of MPPOO (mining and processing plant of oxidized ores) on the Jans polygrade magnetic separator. A concentrate was obtained with an iron content of 65.1% with the extraction of 95.0% and tails with an iron content of 13.0%. The possibility of obtaining low-silica concentrates from these ores with an iron content of 67.15 and a quartz of 2.88% is shown. Also, the results of tests on the enrichment of chromite ores on the firing-magnetic scheme with corona-electrostatic separation are considered. On the initial ore of the Don MPP (mining and processing plant), a concentrate with a content of 61.8% Cr2O3 was obtained with a quartz content of ~ 1.0%. The results of pneumo-electric separation with triboelectric charge of the separated particles are presented. The results of the tests indicate a principal possibility of enriching chromite ores without costly high-temperature roasting. Dry technology of enrichment of manganese ores with the use of electrical separation increases the quality of the oxidized concentrate to the first grade and raises the total extraction by 2 times. For the Chineya deposit of titanomagnetite ores with copper impurities, electroseparation operations were carried out on two samples with a Cu content of 1.93 and 3.75%, respectively. For a sample with a Cu content of 6.02%, a copper concentrate output of 24.42% was obtained with a Cu content of 23.82% and the extraction of 94.88%. The results of enrichment by electroseparation of gold-containing sulfide ores can have the practical importance. For ores of the Berezovskoye deposit, a pyritic concentrate containing 100 g / t of gold was obtained after two or three operations of IES (integrated energy systems)."

"The separation of coal material of three types of coals originating from three various Polish hard coal mines (types 31, 34.2 and 35, according to Polish nomenclature, which were steam coal, semi-coking coal and coking coal) into particle size fractions and then into particle density fractions was done and then the following parameters were measured for each particle size-density fraction: combustion heat, ash contents, sulfur contents, volatile parts contents, analytic moisture. In this way a 7-dimensional vector of data was created. Using methods of factor analysis the important features of coal were selected, which decide about their membership to individual types. To evaluate the appropriateness of the applied method the Bartlett’s sphericity test as well coefficient of Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin (KMO) were used. To select important factors the Kaiser criterion and Cattell’s scree test were used. The obtained results were compared with the results obtained in previous works by means of observation tunnels method. The results showed which particular features are crucial to define the type of coal what is also important to select appropriate method of its enrichment.INTRODUCTION Coal extracted from the mine is often a mixture of coals of various quality originating, for example, from various coal layers. One of the most important issues is to determine its quality, what means to verify if it fulfills certain requirements. Usually, such parameters as combustion heat, ash contents, sulfur contents, volatile parts contents and analytic moisture decide what the coal quality is (Drzymala, 2009). Such investigations are expensive and time consuming. That is why it seems to be important to determine the mutual connections and interactions between them what would make possible to reduce the amount of the necessary parameters. This issue was already investigated with successes in several works [Jamróz and Niedoba, 2013; 2014; Niedoba, 2015]. This work is another approach to this problem. Here, the investigation of possible reduction of researched parameters was done on the basis of the factor analysis. The obtained results confirm the earlier observations."

"The paper focuses on the results of the research on development of hydrometallurgical process of gold recovery from refractory sulfide flotation concentrates based on fine and ultrafine grinding. Refractory concentrates (the degree of refractoriness is 16.9%-82.6%) were chosen for testing. The efficiency of the process based on fine and ultrafine grinding to treat flotation concentrates with gold intergrown with sulfides and rock-forming minerals was shown. Based on the test work conducted, the process option was chosen. In included grinding of flotation concentrate to the size of 98% minus 20µm in a bead mill, lime treatment with air blow, CIL, filtration and detoxification of liquid phase of the slurry. This process (compared to the basic option) provides the recovery of gold from 82.6%, up to 94.0% and decreases the residual grade in the tailings from 3.3g/t to 1.1g/t at the consumption of 12.6NaCNkg/t. Based on the results of the test work and pilot plant testing, project design criteria of flotation circuit at a Russian plant was developed."

"During 2012 and 2013, Minera Esperanza conducted a series of thickening and deposition trials to identify design and operational parameters associated with increased thickening of its tailings. These trials focused on benchmarking the current solids concentration of tailings (62 - 64%) in anticipation of an increase to 67% solids once two new 45 m diameter deep-cone paste thickeners are commissioned in 2014. These trials studied the sedimentation and rheological characteristics of the existing tailings and performed deposition modelling to assist with developing short- and long-term designs for the tailings storage facility. To verify and optimise these models, Minera Esperanza considered a series of laboratory, pilot, and industrial-scale deposition trials. This paper provides a review of the trials conducted in the laboratory and at industrial-scale and considers the results and optimisations for the short- and long-term design of Minera Esperanza’s tailings storage facility."

"We carried out adsorption experiments in chloride media to study the adsorption characteristics of Pd (II) anions on the surface of activated carbon. Throughout the experiments, we used commercial activated carbon pellets (0.8 Norit). The adsorption process was interpreted by using the ionisation and adsorption model. This implies that palladium anions were adsorbed physically on a protonated surface of activated carbon either as anionic complex species (PdCl4 -2) or aqua chloro-complex species [PdCl3(H2O)-] in acidic media. Furthermore, we established that adsorption of Pd (II) species was reversible at high chloride [Cl-1] concentration. The maximum adsorption capacity (Qsat) of Pd (II) anions averaged 27 mg/g. The Toth adsorption isotherms fairly predicted the equilibrium adsorption of Pd (II) species and the associated surface coverage.The effect of temperature and acid strength of the feed solution on the adsorption of Pd (II) ions were quantified. The adsorption kinetics was limited by external mass transfer since the effect of pore diffusion on the overall rate constant was negligibly small. A pseudo first-order kinetics model was used to describe the adsorption kinetics."

"In this research, the operation of screen classifying in silica processing circuits was investigated and modified by replacement of available trommel screens with teetered bed separator (TBS). In addition the effect of the mentioned replacement and addition of attrition scrubber on quality of final product, impurities removal, recovery and production rate were inspected. Considering screen efficiency problems to achieve certain particle size distribution, hydraulic classifying system was selected instead of trommel screens. Application of suggested plan improved quality and particle size distribution of produced silica significantly. Optimization of size classification in process circuit resulted in increase in production rate up to 21% (from 67% to 81%), silica recovery (from 68.35% up to 83.11%) and relative enhancement in removal of impurities such as Fe2O3 and TiO2. After optimization and stabilization of grinding and size classification section, industrial attrition scrubbing tests were carried out and the best solid percent and retention time were determined i.e. 70% and 6 minutes, respectively. Using sodium carbonate during attrition scrubbing, has major effect on removal of surface coating and staining especially sharp increase in clay removal; therefore 2 kg/t of sodium carbonate can be optimistic point of industrial procedure for this silica processing plant. It should be mentioned that application of attrition scrubbing which is followed by screw classifier for de-sliming were useful for better cumulating of particles in the range of appropriate liberation degree (+106-300µm) and efficient removal of metallic (iron and titanium oxides) and non-metallic (clays and feldspars) impurities."

"Most coal supply contracts include strict limitations on the moisture content of the products. This limitation exists because of calorific, transport cost, and handling reasons. Managing the retention time on product stockpiles to facilitate drainage commonly controls the moisture content in coarser coal products. A large-scale pilot rig has been commissioned to facilitate research in this regard. A stockpile of about 15 tonnes of a typical washed power station feed coal from the South African Witbank coalfield was loaded onto a 6 x 6 m platform on load cells. The platform was shielded from the elements, like rain and wind, and an artificial rain sprinkler system was installed. A variety of rainfall intensities and durations were simulated and the water accumulation and run-off was measured. The material was also sampled for moisture and particle size before and after the series of tests. At the same time, the drainage characteristics of the same coal were determined in smaller scale drainage columns for comparison. Data is presented in this paper on the drainage rates, maximum accumulated moisture, final moisture, and the effect of evaporation. The results showed that for all rainfall patterns tested, drainage ceased after 2 - 3 days, but evaporation continued for at least the time period under investigation, albeit at a low rate. Evaporation contributed to dewatering at rates that depended on wind, temperature and humidity conditions. This caused a slow reduction in moisture content even after the run-off had ceased. The value of the final moisture depended on the coal PSD. It was also found that the intensity and duration of the more intense rainfall events did not significantly affect the maximum water accumulation, with drainage rates equaling the corresponding water addition rates which suggested that water ran off over the surface of the stockpile with limited penetration. During more intense rainfall scenarios, some penetration was apparent."

"The deleterious effect of carbonaceous matter during cyanidation of gold ores (so called preg-robbing) has been recognized for many years. Based on this, a new method using flotation to reduce the content of carbonaceous matter was developed. Low-sulfide gold-bearing ore with carbonaceous matter of 0.14% from a Russian deposit was processed. The purpose of these tests was to compare two flow sheet options. Option I comprised removal of carbonaceous product prior to sulfide flotation. Option II comprised removal of carbonaceous matter from flotation concentrate. It was found that the content of carbonaceous material can be reduced in sulfide gold-bearing concentrate prior to leaching. High gold recovery was observed during the separation of carbonaceous material prior to sulfide flotation using Option I. Due to lower reagent consumption the costs for reagents were decreased using Option II. The results have shown the effectiveness of a new method. Patent No. 2783808 was obtained for removal of carbonaceous material prior to sulfide flotation. This information will be used to design a large processing plant flow sheet in Russia."

Ores and raw materials are subjected to mineral processing operations to increase the content of their useful components. Upgrading of these materials can proceed with different selectivity and therefore, there is a need to know and monitor the separation results of the process. The separation results can be evaluated using tables and graphs called upgrading curves. The course of lines in the upgrading curves is usually complex and depends on the graph type and process parameters. The Halbich grade vs. recovery plot is frequently used because is practical and it indicates several characteristic features of separation results. Separations by means of flotation of several different shale, dolomite and sandstone copper ores were performed along with determination of their mineral composition, copper content, liberation degree, and the maximum theoretical copper content in the first concentrate. These data, plotted as the Halbich upgrading curves, allowed to find other characteristic points such as practical maximum copper content in the first concentrate, maximum curvature coexisting with the liberation degree, maximum recovery of ore valuable components, and the slope the recovery-grade line at high recoveries as a measure of liberation. Correlations between theoretical and practical maximum copper contents in the first concentrate as well liberation degree and maximum curvature were also presented. They show that the ore type significantly influences the shape of the Halbich curve and its characteristic points.

Utilizing thioglycolic acid (TGA) as a template and using structure-guided design, a molecular modelling approach has been used to design and screen appropriate dispersant for chalcopyrite. A series of organic dispersants based on a TGA substitution with hydroxyl and amino and sulfonic functional groups have been examined on chalcopyrite surface. 20 organic depressors of chalcopyrite have been investigated to study the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) of chalcopyrite depressors. For the chalcopyrite surface, depressor containing carboxyl and sulfonic group is generally stronger than the depressor containing hydroxyl group. Increasing the number of hydrophilic group can effectively enhance the inhibition. Increasing the number of Solidophilic group does not necessarily lead to enhanced inhibition ability; steric factor is one of the important factors to affect the interaction. Extension alkyl carbon chain length cannot enhance the interaction of depressors. Isomers principle as well as applies to the chalcopyrite depressor molecular design. Flotation verification tests further confirmes the accuracy of the molecular simulation. Through the Computer Aided Molecular Design (CAMD) technology, we can save enormous time and resources to design novel surfactants. This research and application will play a great significance role in sulfide flotation.
