"In most of the coal washeries, Dense Medium Cyclone’s (DMC) are deployed to treat coarse coal fraction in the range of 50-0.5 mm. DMC’s are very popular due to its ability of high tonnage, ease of operation and effective separation at high near-gravity material (NGM) in feed coal. The ease or difficulty of washing is merely depending on the NGM fraction present in run of mine coal. However, the quantitative effect of NGM on DMC performance was not explored in the literature. Hence, in this investigation, the influence of NGM on DMC performance is focused. With the help of synthetically prepared coal mixture, the effect of NGM mass fraction on separation efficiency is studied in three different approaches. Firstly, by increasing the NGM coal fraction systematically from low to as high as possible; second by varying the distribution of NGM coal; and third by varying distribution of particles lying just above and below the near-gravity zone. Washability studies are also carried out to establish the theoretical yield for the prepared synthetic mixtures. Pilot-plant experiments are carried out in a 4-inch DMC with 1.4 operating separation density treating coal in the size range of 4 - 0.5 mm. From results, the partition curves are constructed by both density and size wise distributions. It is observed that at higher NGM coal fraction i.e above 60%, the performance of DMC is very poor with significant coal particles misplacement. In second approach with increased distribution at higher density fractions, the separation efficiency reduces. In third series the distribution of fraction in near-gravity zone doesn’t much effect the separation except the shift in separation density. It is observed that smaller size (-0.5 mm) coal particle having high NGM content seems have a profound effect on DMC performance leading to significant fines misplacement to wrong products."

This paper presents gold occurrence investigations on the altered rock gold deposit from Jiaodong area of China, and comparisons of gold occurrence in the ore samples from different mining levels. According to the results, the chemical and mineral compositions of raw materials from different mining levels are quite similar. However, the relative content and grain size of gold minerals are quite different between the two mining levels of -130m~-340m and -550m~-650m. In the ore of upper mining levels of -130m~-340m, electrum is the dominant gold mineral and accounts for about 80% of the total gold minerals, while native gold is minor and accounts for about 20%. As for the ore of deep mining levels of -550m~-650m, the major gold mineral shifts to native gold which accounts for 67%, while the ratio of electrum drops to about 33%. Coarser gold grain size was observed in the upper mining level ore with a mean size of 33.05µm while the gold grain size was much finer in the ore of deep mining levels with a mean size of 22.85µm. Furthermore, the gold mineral associations also show different patterns between the upper mining level samples and the deep mining level samples. Of the three observed gold association types such as inclusion gold, fissure gold and interparticle gold, more inclusion gold was found in the ore of deep mining levels. The inclusion gold accounts for 62% in the ore of deep mining levels, while that in the ore of upper mining levels accounts for about 56%. Further study revealed that the dominant gold associated minerals are pyrite and sulphides and only a small amount of gold is associated with quartz and silicates. It was shown that the altered rock gold ore from Jiaodong area can be regarded as a free milling gold ore, but the processing parameters should be optimized for the ores in different mining levels according to the different gold occurrence. In addition, it was predicted that enhanced gold liberation is necessary for the ore in deep mining levels.

In this paper, full-scale mill data collected from three different circuit configurations in cement plants demonstrated the size reduction performance of dry ball mills in relation with the ball size classification achieved by the classifying liners used in the grinding compartments. Findings indicated that, breakage rates at the last 2 ~ 4 meters of the mill are not sufficient to give reasonable size reduction ratios for the production of fines. Application of only damming rings without classifying liners resulted in inverse ball size classification which lead to reduction in size reduction performance thus specific breakage rates.

This study covers the tests to develop separation process for production of clay and colemanite rich concentrates, and aims to serve the clay and colemanite concentrates extracted from the tailing dams to the industrial applications. For this purpose, samples from the tailing dams in Kestelek Boron Plant (Turkey) with an average B2O3 content of 8%~11 % were subjected to the investigations. The separation process of hydrocyclone--to make clear the way to obtain either clean clay or cole-manite--was initially discussed. Therefore, following the gentle scrubbing (to keep the bimodal size distribution between clay and colemanite) of the tailings to disperse the slurry, two alternative multistage hydrocyclone processes; allowing to recycling the overflows or underflows to concentrate clay and colemanite were respectively tested. As a result of the preliminary tests, the multistage hydrocyclone separation in direction to the clean colemanite concentrates (recycling the underflows) gave the better separation efficiencies. So, all the parameters such as apex and vortex finder diameters and feeding pressures were examined with the multistage hydrocyclone process allowing the recycling the underflows. The detailed multistage hydrocyclone separation process of the tailing dam wastes yielded with colemanite concentrates (approx. 12 % of the feed, w/w) with B2O3 content of 35.0 % and the clay concentrates (approx. 42 % of the feed, w/w) with B2O3 content of 2.1 %. Colemanite concentrates were found good enough either to re-feed in to the separation process or to keep upgrading for final product ready to use in Industry whereas the attempts on production of light bricks from clay concentrates has failed. But it is worth to point out that these clay concentrates can be used for agricultural purposes just in the form as it is.

The molybdenum ores currently utilized in China are mostly molybdenum sulfide ores, whereas oxidized molybdenum ores have not been exploited and utilized efficiently. The aim of this article is to study the applied mineralogy of an intergrown iron-molybdenum oxidized ore in order to provide a mineralogical basis for the ore beneficiation research. The ore occurred in a surface oxidized zone seam and contained 23.65% Fe2O3 and 1.58% Mo. Various characterization techniques were employed to study the chemical composition and mineral composition of the ore, the particle size distribution of the minerals in the ore, and the tex-ture and structure of the ore. The results showed that the iron-molybdenum ore occurred in a wet, soft and earthy state. The ore was composed mainly of several oxidized minerals and colloidal min-erals, including wulfenite, barite, limonite and quartz. Wulfenite was one of the major and stable components in the ore and occurred as a separate mineral. Wulfenite, barite and quartz were granu-lar minerals with particle size ranging from fine to coarse but mainly in the fine particle range. Li-monite showed a crust and honeycomb-like colloidal state and composed the framework in the ore for the formation of the other minerals. They filled the pores in the framework and the size of the pores affected the size of the minerals formed in the pores and hence the recovery of wulfenite in ore beneficiation. According to the applied mineralogical properties of the oxidized molybdenum ore, a promising ore beneficiation process was proposed as follow Magnetic separation should be carried out first to separate the magnetic iron minerals and then the molybdenum mineral will be recovered by gravity concentration or a combination process of gravity concentration and flotation, depending on the distribution of the molybdenum mineral in the product of the magnetic separation.

Purified Na-montmorillonite samples were used as the starting materials to prepare organically modified montmorillonites (OM), and a series of OM samples were prepared by intercalation of al-kyl quaternary ammoniums with different alkyl chain length. The interlayer spacing (d001) of the OM was determined by small angle X-ray diffraction and its gelating performance was characterized by measuring the viscosity of OM/dimethylbenzene mixture. The effects of alkyl chain length, dosage of alkyl ammonium, intercalation duration and layer charge of the starting material on the OM structure and gelating properties were investigated. According to the results, the adsorption quantity of the alkyl ammonium is dependent on the hydrocarbon chain length, the dosage of the alkyl ammonium and the retention time. The adsorption quantity of the alkyl ammonium increases with the chain length and the dosage, and extra adsorption more than the CEC of the montmorillonite sample was observed under the dosages of more than 1.3 CEC. The interlayer spacing (d001) of the OM shows a dynamic variation with the dosage and the retention time, and super interlayer spacings greater than the length of the alkyl ammonium were observed under larger dosages and shorter retention times. However, the gelating performance of OM does not follow the variations of the adsorption quantity of alkyl ammonium, an optimum viscosity value of OM/ dimethylbenzene gel was observed with the moderate adsorption of the alkyl ammoniums. Furthermore, the layer charge plays an important role on the gelating performance of OM. The OM synthesized by the starting material with lower layer charge shows better gelating performance in the dimethylbenzene solution.

The existing construction and demolition (C and D) waste recycling technologies and standards have been essentially focused on the production and use of coarse recycled aggregates. Very few papers focus on the production of recycled sand, although some previous results show that fine aggregates fraction represents around 40 to 60% (in mass) of the Brazilian waste and it is usually used as road sub-base or disposed in landfills. The quality of the recycled aggregate is strictly related to the content of porous and low strength phases, mainly the patches of cement remaining on recycled aggregate surface. Some technologies have already been described in the literature, even though, to the moment none of these technologies has clearly succeeded in reaching the large market available. This paper presents a summary of the main properties of the sand produced from C and D waste by tertiary crushing at vertical shaft impact crusher (VSI). Additionally mineral processing technologies were applied on the attained product, such as gravity concentration by shaking table and spirals and removal of cement paste by attrition. The main properties of recycled sand are discussed and compared to the previous C and D waste, respectively: particle size distribution, particle shape, chemical composition, cement paste content and porosity. The results demonstrates that the crushing allowed producing a VSI-sand with low porosity and water absorption due to the increasing on the content of silicates from natural rock phases and increasing liberation between these phases and porous cement paste; the particles from the attained product presented also a better shape (sphericity and aspect ratio). The attrition tests assayed on VSI recycled fine aggregates accomplished a further selective disaggregation of cement paste and other porous materials - the porosity was reduced from 10% to 7%. The concentration by shaking table at narrow sieve fractions led to a product with low porosity and reduced content of cement paste, however, concentration on spirals did not succeed since separation was performed essentially by the size of the particles. The heavy product from shaking table represented almost 75% in weight and has less than 60% recovery of CaO+LOI, and expressive reduction on porosity. The aim of producing sand from construction and demolition waste through mineral processing unit operations changes the recycling approach and contributes for up cycling the recycled sand. The exhaustion of sand deposits on Brazilian large centers, the increasing price and the construction boom encourages the development of alternative materials as construction raw material. "Ore sorting technology has been rapidly advancing in recent years. Improving expected mill feed grade has a significant benefit to project returns, and can no longer be ignored. When there is an increase in the mill feed grade while maintaining the same throughput, the mine will be able to process much more metal and improve the floatation recovery. There are many more factors that contribute toward the economics of the project by implementing sensor-based sorting technologies covered in this paper. This paper reviews the economic impact on an underground copper-silver deposit with references to the concept of ""profit recovery,"" which is the measurement of recovery based on rock profitability rather than just metal content. The economic impact of sensor-based sorting is discussed in detail throughout the paper. The preliminary economic evaluation of the project compares the mine's base case design versus a design incorporating sensor-based sorting. The paper's primary focus is on economic impacts rather than the explanation of the sensor based sorting results. The sorting data is presented on a scoping level and using a sensor-based sorting study where the best possible results are used for obtaining the grade recovery curves. Also, the breakdown and analysis of the project economics are based on the operating cost available from the particular operation. Any assumptions taken into consideration are also outlined and discussed. INTRODUCTION The mining industry has been adopting Sensor-based ore sorting technology fairly rapidly in the recent years. The ability to increase mill feed grade by rejecting waste grade rocks early in the processing stage is proving to be revolutionary for some operations. These potential outcomes should not be overlooked by both producing operations and prospective projects, thus leading to a wide range of studies on ore sorting. The results of development of new collecting reagents selectively interacting with the metals of platinum group (MPG) are presented. A new approach to the concentration of the platinum minerals from the fine grade platinum containing products with the use of cloud point polymers for the first time proposed for this purpose is discussed. An original method for the investigation of complexing reagents with the platinum under flotation conditions developed by authors is described. The influence of the complexing reagents on the xanthate adsorption and on the electrochemical properties of the platinum arsenide surface (sperrylite) as well with the interaction mechanism between the reagent and metallic platinum were investigated by means of the modern physical and physicochemical methods of the solid and fluid phase studies. The results of tests of some complexing reagents with the rich copper-nickel ore in the cycle of nickel-pyrrhotite flotation are given. The data obtained makes it possible to mark the complexing reagent containing phosphine group as the most effective additional collector for MPG. Cloud point polymers containing thioamide, aminosulphide, and phosphine functional groups were examined. It is shown that all the reagents tested increase the platinum and palladium extraction to the nickel-pyrrhotite concentrate without quality loss. Platinum containing particles flocculate selectively.

There are many measuring methods of grain sizes. Taking into consideration the fine grained materials, one of the existing techniques is measurement of grain size by the Coulter Counter method. This method is based on the measuring the changes of electrolyte resistance during grains flow through the calibrated diaphragm. This method is relatively simple to apply, significantly precise and the results are given quickly. However, the problem is that the measurements are limited by the size of diaphragm. Because of this situation, measurement of grain sizes by this instrument is possible in range from 10% to 60% of diaphragm diameter. This limitation causes the necessity of re-placing diaphragm in case when the measured grain size distribution concerns the material of large size range. In purpose of determining the total grain size distribution, the synthesis of some partial distributions, given for individual grain fractions (with different diaphragm applied), is required. This is possible to do by calculating the mixture of distribution functions, created from the partial distribution functions. Two materials were selected to research: quartzite and glass, which were comminuted in cylindrical crusher, additionally grinded, screened and then analyzed by Coulter Counter for five grain fractions: 0~125 µm, 0~80 µm, 0~56 µm, 0~40 µm and 0~25 µm. For each fraction, five different partial distributions were given (in case of glass ? four), which are the basis for the creating the joined grain composition. To assure the adequacy of the given distribution function, it is necessary to obtain the possibly best approximation of partial distributions. In the work, both the parametric and non-parametric methods of density approximations of investigated random variable. For each grain fraction the approximations were done by three traditional distribution functions: RRB, GSA and log-norm distribution functions and three methods of non-parametric approximation: Gauss kernel, Epanechnikov kernel and orthogonal Fourier series method. "Mine tailings is one of the most important bulk industrial solid wastes, but its rate of comprehensive utilization is relatively low. Efficient separation, recovery and utilization of the valuable components is one focus of the comprehensive utilization of tailings. Beneficiation recovery of the valuable minerals is the most direct comprehensive utilization method for tailings. There are generally different kinds of nonmetallic minerals contained in the nonferrous metal mine tailings, which are secondary mineral resources waiting for further developing and recovery. Comprehensive utilization test studies on fluorite in tungsten beneficiation tailings and feldspar in molybdenum beneficiation tailings have been carried out by author and good test results are achieved. Some of the technologies developed in the test study have been applied in industrial productions, which have been working well. The economic, social and environmental benefits are remarkable. Our test studies and some production practices will be summarized and current situation and existing problems of comprehensive utilization for nonferrous metal mine tailings will also be discussed. Graphite with layers structure is easily to form graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) by means of intercalation reactions due to the weak cohesion force among carbon layers, van der Waal?s interactions. By controlling the oxidation-intercalation, high quality exfoliated graphite with low residual sulfur content and MClx-GICs (M=Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) powder for electromagnetic wave absorbing and shielding materials have been invented. The expansion volume of expandable graphite can be larger than 160 mL/g while the residual sulfur content is less than 800 ppm. The MClx-GICs powder can shield infrared ray and laser completely up to 15 min. We have also in-vented exfoliated graphite for heavy oil adsorption and mild-expansion exfoliated graphite for anode materials in lithium ion battery by controlling the intercalation/de-intercalation. The exfoliated graphite can adsorb heavy oil up to 80 g/g, it also exhibits better performance than commercial active carbon in sewage treatment. The mild-expansion exfoliated graphite as anode material shows high capacity of 370 mAh/g and good cycle performance.

"In order to reduce the dosage costs and increase the economic benefits of a full floating process in a low grade complex multi-metals W-Mo ore, based on the study of the magnetic characteristics of the main gangue minerals, a joint process by magnetic separation and floatation technology is adopted. The first step of the flowsheet is to recover magnetite by magnetic separation, then remove the magnetic gangues by high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) and finally recycle the W-Mo from the magnetically separated tailings by flotation. Results of the lab experiment show that in comparison with the full flotation process, the floatation feed tonnage of the combined flowsheet are only 46%. The grade and the recovery of Mo in the rough Mo-Bi concentrate is similar with the original one while the WO3 in the tungsten rough concentrate is increased from 3.85% to 6.64%. The dosage costs are reduced by 53%. The new process can significantly improve the plant economically. INTRODUCTION With the continuous exploitation of scheelite resources, the easily obtained resource is gradually depleting. The ""lean, fine and complex"" scheelite resource has become the main research object of tungsten beneficiation (Lou et al., 2010) (Xiao et al., 2013). The passive situation of tungsten beneficiation can be reversed by enhancing technological innovation and investment in science and technology, changing the business philosophy and mode of production, optimizing the process structure and process conditions, improving various technical indexes and reducing production costs of reagents, which will maximize economic benefits (Jiang et al., 2012 ) (Zhu et al., 2016). A polymetallic deposit of tungsten molybdenum bismuth original process adopts a full flotation process. With the expansion of stope mining, the content of valuable metals in the ore continues to decrease, resulting in a high cost per ton of concentrate produced and a low output value (Li et al., 2015)."

Low-grade bauxite with A/S of 4.4 from Henan province was used as raw material and the selec-tive grinding of bauxite, grinding efficiency, particle size and Al2O3 and SiO2distributions of ground products were investigated using ball and vibration mills. The results show that the selective grinding can be used to realize the separation of aluminum from silicon within a certain particle size. The optimal grinding conditions of the ball mill with bauxite are as follows: grinding material to charge ratio, 1.2, charge volume ratio, 40%, pulp con-centration, 70wt%, medium size distribution, F30mm:F20mm:F15mm=20%:50%:30%. Under the conditions, the weight rate of ground product with A/S over 7.5 is 27% and the recovery of Al 2O3is 30%. The optimal grinding condition of the vibration mill with bauxite are as follows: grinding material to charge ratio, 0.9; charge volume ratio, 70%; concentration, 70%; medium size distribution, F40mm:F30mm:F20mm=20%:30%:50%. Under the conditions, the weight ratio of ground product with A/S over 7.5 is 25% and the recovery of Al 2O3is 27%. The research is significant for the rational and economical utilization of the low-grade bauxite.

This paper explores the relationship between the rheological behaviour and mineralogical nature of three different natural ore types. Rheological measurements performed here on Platreef, Kimber-lite and Norseman-Wiluna ores are correlated with the variation of phylosilicate mineral content in these ores and the corresponding physical properties of selected phylosilicate mineral groups. Preliminary results show that the clay mineral group (talc) has the least effect on both Bingham yield stress and viscosity of the three ore slurries tested, whereas the serpentine mineral group has a dramatic increasing effect on the Bingham yield stress especially at very low solid volume fractions. The Bingham viscosity of the mineral slurry appears to be the most influenced by the presence of the swelling clay mineral group (smectite). Significant increases in either Bingham yield stress or viscosity due to elevated contents of these problematic phylosilicate mineral groups are likely to cause negative effects on the processing and manageability of mineral slurries but it is unclear which is likely to have a more detrimental effect.

Comprehensive utilization of the copper associated with the complex lead and zinc sulphide ore is a recognized and difficult technical issue in ore dressing field. Qi Baoshan lead-zinc mine is a typical complex copper-lead-zinc polymetallic ore deposit and difficult to process. The application of the. traditional process is not able to make the substantive progress. According to its mineralogical characteristics, the association of copper minerals with lead minerals is very close, and their particle sizes are very fine, and the copper and lead minerals are partially oxidized. Based on the laboratory tests and comparison between different process flowsheets, preferential flotation of copper minerals, being suitable for this ore, was chosen to recover copper. The separation of copper from lead applies the following technology: regrinding middlings with cyclones to classify, which improves copper lead mineral liberation, and increases copper and lead recovery; using new high-efficient collector with good selectivity, which is able to float copper minerals; and non-toxic combined depressant which depresses lead minerals. The above technical innovation, optimizing the process flowsheet, overcoming the complex traditional process flow with high production cost, obtained good technical and economic indicator. The difficult technical problem of copper lead separation was solved smoothly. After successful performance of the bench-scale experiment, commercial-scale test was carried out. In industrial trial, a copper concentrate containing Cu18.60 %, Pb7.40 % and Zn2.50 % was obtained with copper recovery of 58.49%, lead concentrate quality improved largely. The process opened up an unique path for the comprehensive recovery of Cu from similar lead and zinc non-ferrous metals mineral to comprehensively recover copper.

This paper presents an arcuate magnetic separator to remove the grinding ball fragment directly from the mill discharge, which will cause wear to downstream processing equipment such as pump, hydro cyclones and pebble crusher. Furth more this type separator was applied in Wushan mine under China National Group Corporation in China. After months of operation, the equipment has been a success. Turkey?s EU affairs started in 1963 with the Ankara Treaty. On 31 December 1995 the Customs Union between Turkey and the European Union came into effect. In order to achieve the Copenhagen Criteria?s, Turkey, made laws parallel to the Framework Programs. On 3 October 2005, with the confirmation of ?Membership Framework Document? the negotiation process of Turkey has started. Coal had important role in the industrialization of EU and it is directly related to Energy and Environmental subjects. In this point many restriction became with the some protocols, in last decades. European Union composed Energy and Coal Policy, therefore engaged to reduce the emissions, and made new regulations. This regulations concern Turkey?s energy future, since large; but low quality of lignite reserves of Turkey, it is expected to have some difficulties with Union?s Environmental Legislation during Turkey?s congruity process. With the last natural gas import agreements of Turkey, the production and consumption of coal sunk in last seven years. However, considering environmental sustainability, the role of coal in energy production will rise up in the coming future. In this paper, in terms of Turkey Energy Sector, production and consumption problems of coal discussed and evaluated considering EU?s coal, energy and environmental rudiments.

Over the years, Coal Beneficiation at Tata Steel - West Bokaro has seen varied changes. With increasing R.O.M throughputs & lowering of the concentrate ash, Fine Coal Beneficiation process has thrown up myriad challenges. Development of Synthetic Collector was initiated couple of years back with Technical assistance from NLC Nalco India Ltd. Coal from West Bokaro unit was sent to Nalco?s Naperville (US) research lab for developing Tailor made synthetic collector . After comprehensive lab flotation studies, synthetic collector was developed & recommended for plant evaluation. The lab scale results were very promising in terms of improved separation efficiency & yield at similar ash level. The collector sample received from Nalco research laboratory were revalidated at Nalco Kolkata lab and finally at Tata Steel West Bokaro lab, confirming the promising results. (S.E 25-30 % better than HS Diesel) The key factors playing out for this improvement initiative are a) Scope for improvement in Clean Coal Yield at same or lower ash level coupled with improved Selectivity and Separation Efficiency b) Introduction of a Synthetic Collector with a Green Chemistry and subsequent replacement of H S Diesel, which is highly inflammable with a less inflammable & safer product Trial was conducted at plant scale in two phases and comparative performance of the Collector vis-à-vis Diesel was evaluated across the following Coal Seams of Q- SE (Seam VII, VIII, VI, IX and X). The results generated are very promising and the improvements observed are summarized below. ? Separation efficiency improvement by more than 20% observed. ? Flotation Fines yield increase varied from 0.6- 1.5 % on raw coal basis across different seams. ? Consumption pattern is 20-25 % lower than Diesel.
