Surface mining operations typically require run-of-mine material to be sized for further processing. In-pit crushing facilities serve this need, as stationary, semi-mobile or fully mobile units. Although in particular fully mobile crushing facilities have been in use for over half of a century, other surface mining techniques have typically been implemented. However, with increasing operating costs in truck and shovel operations, and other economic considerations, mobile crushing plants are increasingly a viable option. The operational and economical parameters in relation to the optimal surface mining equipment selection will be reviewed. The role of the mobile crushing technology within the continuous vs. noncontinuous surface mining operation and basis for mine planning are also discussed. Current applications and respective case studies will be reviewed. Key performance indicators will be presented. These performance parameters can be viewed as a tool to aid in the equipment selection process. The future direction for further research and development in mobile crushing facilities will also be presented.

El Batolito de la Cordillera Oriental, comprende una diversidad de rocas intrusivas, las cuales varían composicionalmente desde gabros a granitos alcalinos de la serie calcoalcalina. Durante su emplazamiento han sufrido procesos de fraccionación y contaminación en la corteza, dando como resultado granitos metaluminosos y peraluminosos. Los trabajos realizados por el INGEMMET, han permitido la agrupación de las diferentes rocas en unidades y súper unidades, conllevando a determinar tanto las características petrogenéticas, como las relaciones con las mineralizaciones polimetálicas y de elementos estratégicos para cada unidad.

El área de estudio está ubicada entre los 15° - 16° 30’ Latitud Sur, comprende los departamentos de Arequipa e Ica. En esta área fueron definidas las nuevas unidades intrusivas del Batolito de la Costa (Segmento Arequipa), en el marco de la actualización de la carta geológica a escala 1:50,000. En base al mapeo detallado de rocas intrusivas, estudio petrográfico, geoquímica de rocas e isotopos U/Pb, se logró determinar hasta doce nuevas unidades intrusivas, distribuidas en un tiempo geológico continuo desde el Jurásico medio (168 Ma) al Cretácico superior (92 Ma). Se evidenciaron además nuevas estructuras relacionadas a mineralizaciones de yacimientos tipo pórfido, IOCG (Iron Oxide Copper Gold), vetas mesotermales auríferas y cupríferas.

El yacimiento epitermal de alta sulfuración Au-Ag de Tantahuatay se encuentra en un campo volcánico situado en el sector nor-oeste del Distrito de Hualgayoc, región Cajamarca, norte del Perú. Desde Agosto del 2011, el yacimiento viene siendo explotado a cielo abierto por Cía. Minera Coimolache S.A constituída desde 1995 por Southern Peru como accionista del 44%, Cía. de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A del 40% y Espro SAC. del 16%. Dentro de 23,000 Has. de concesión se tiene al 31/12/2016, 1.0 Moz Au en reservas de mineral en óxidos, distribuidos en cinco depósitos, de los cuales dos son actuales tajos en operación. El LOM (Life-of-Mine) se ha trazado hasta el 2021 con una proyección hasta el 2024, si se integra 690 Koz Au de recursos y potencial actuales, como futuras reservas.

El proyecto Kajol se encuentra a 154 Km al SW de Arequipa, en la Cordillera de la Costa (desierto de Clemesi) en la franja de pórfidos Tia María, La Tapada y Cruz de Mayo. El proyecto consta de rocas del Batolito de Ilo que intruyen la Formación Chocolate donde posteriormente han sido intruidos por un sistema de porfido, donde han sido albergados en el corredor Ilo-Islay (NEE-SWW) que correspondería a una zona de transtensión, las fallas del borde Este y Oeste del proyecto tienen sentido sinestral y al interior forman estructuras en pull apart con morfo-estructuras anastomasadas de tipo flor negativa demostrando la relación del corredor estructural con esfuerzos Riedel para el emplazamiento de magmas fértiles y lograr desarrollar sistemas pórfidos mineralizados.

The AntaKori Cu-Au-Ag Project in the Hualgayoc mining district, northern Peru is a complex system dominated by calcic Cu-Au-Ag skarn hosted in Cretaceous sedimentary units. The skarn system is partially overprinted by two younger epithermal systems: high sulphidation (HS) epithermal gold-copper-silver mineralization related to the adjacent Tantahuatay system, and intermediate sulphidation carbonate-base metal Au-Ag-Pb-Zn-Cu mineralization related to late stage rhyolite stocks and flow domes (Wilson, 2012).

The Yanaquihua gold-bearing vein-fault deposit is associated with a sinistral strike-slip fault system, hosted within granite to granodiorite of the Tiabaya Super Unit of the Coastal batholith. The deposit is located near the northwest striking Cincha-Lluta-Incapuquio (System 11) regional fault system . Mineralization exhibits vertical trends and is primarily controlled by sub-vertical vein-fault structures. Mineralization includes variably abundant quartz, clay minerals, pyrite, calcite.

Background: Frictional ignitions continue to be a problem facing the U.S. underground coal mining industry. Many methane igni-tions are associated with the impact of mining machine cutter bits on quartzitic material (e.g., sandstone) during the coal-cutting process. Most ignitions result in small methane-air fireballs often only a few feet in size and limited to the cutter head location. However, under certain conditions, frictional ignitions can lead to larger methane explosions and/or fires with the potential for causing serious injury or death to the mining machine operator and other nearby miners. The requirements for a frictional ignition are a flammable volume of methane-air and an ignition source. This source is usually the hot streak caused by the frictional impact of the mining bit on hard rock, and the frequency of occurrence increases with increased bit wear. Another possible ignition source is the fric-tional impact of rock on rock during a roof fall.
