Copper nickel separation is performed by mineral processing techniques both pre and post smelting in Copper Cliff at Vale Canada?s Operations. The separation at Clarabelle Mill takes advantage of the ore mineralogy to affect a separation on the rougher concentrate where chalcopyrite and pentlandite exhibit high liberation and high recoveries thus their separation is simple although incomplete. The copper concentrate comprises only 50% of the copper in ore with the remaining copper being separated post smelting in the Matte Separation plant where the slow cooled Bessemer Matte is again treated by mineral processing operations using flotation to separate the chalcocite and heazlewoodite and magnetic separators to remove a metallic nickel alloy. This paper discusses the mineralogy, separation processes and work currently underway to improve the separation of copper from nickel in these plants.

The process under investigation is the large-scale production of phosphorus. Gravity delivers the feed, consisting of pelletised apatite, coke and silica (in the form of gravel), to a submerged arc furnace through ten, evenly distributed feed chutes ensuring constant packed bed volume. Within this packed bed, solid-gas reactions are dominant in generating the gaseous product. These reactions, as well as the packed bed itself, were the main focus in the development of a fully three-dimensional CFD model in which fluid flow and energy distribution are represented as functions of chemical reactions, heating and melting of material and heat losses. The associated complex process interactions necessitated the creation of two process-specific, user-developed models that integrates accurate, thermodynamical data with computational fluid dynamics calculations, as well as reaction kinetics. The boundary conditions are provided by industrial measurements, and the key model parameters of reaction kinetics were obtained by laboratory experiments for different feed mixtures. Thirteen temperature probes installed inside the refractory lining of the furnace especially for this project allowed parameter fitting and validation to be guided within the constraints of real measurements. Simulation results reveal a thin, dome-shaped, reductive zone where conditions are optimum for maximum phosphorus recovery, as well as evidence of a thermal reserve zone similar to an ironmaking blast furnace located above this reduction zone. When compared to actual operating data, the CFD model can successfully predict the specific power consumption, the phosphorus in the slag and gaseous product flowrate under given operating conditions. This CFD model forms part of a larger project that aims to create a Dynamic-CFD hybrid control model.

Deposit of Jinbaoshan platinum group metals (PGMs) ore ranks the second in Yunnan province, China. Study on process mineralogy shows that the grade of copper and nickel in the ore is just 0.16% and 0.20% respectively. Moreover, the impurities magnesium and iron and silicon are rich in the ore. The copper and nickel sulfides in the ore, especially the minerals of PGMs, are finely disseminated with the gangues like serpentine. Fine grinding is necessary, and high content of MgO in the concentrate is inevitable through traditional flotation technology on the basis of process mineralogy studies. Achievements on process mineralogy studies are applied to guide the flotation tests successfully. Progress on flotation has been made through comprehensive studies. Suitable grinding by two stages is required for the finely disseminated PGM sulphide ore to achieve the liberation of valuable minerals. Stage grinding and stage separation shall be conducted for a better recovery of valuable minerals. The oxidation state of mineral surface of sulphides has a profound effect on flotation of the ultra-fine sulphides, especially the pentlandite. The combined use of collectors enhances the selective collecting on the ultra-fine and low-grade valuable minerals, is of critical importance.

The results of research on recovery of ammonium perrhenate from by-products of lead production are presented in the article. For the first time in the world, rhenium marketable products were produced on lead plant of Kazakhstan. Distribution of rhenium in lead production has been studied. During oxidative agglomeration of lead charge, 67.43% rhenium is sublimated and at that, 67.27% rhenium is trapped by the dusts of a system of gas purification, out of them 6.21% is transferred into different solutions, 1.89% into slime and only 0.09% into exhaust. During agglomerate smelting, up to 72% of its rhenium is sublimated and condensed in the dusts also. At leaching stage of sulphate product under dusts processing by the method of sulphatization, 15% of its content in the dusts is transferred into solution. The sorption method on the ionite ?N-21 has been proposed for recovery of rhenium from the solutions of sulphatization. At the same time, rhenium recovery from the dusts into commodity was 13%. The method of direct hydrometallurgy - leaching the dusts by solutions of sulphuric acid under presence of manganous concentrates, has been proposed as alternative method of recovery. This method has allowed increasing recovery of rhenium and other metals from the dusts into solution up to 90%~95%. Rhenium solvent extraction by ??? has been proposed for recovery of rhenium from the leaching solutions. At that, extraction of rhenium into marketable product from the dusts is above 75%.

"In this paper, scheelite and scheelite coated with Pb2+ (SC) were synthesized by chemical precipitation with the help of ultrasonic. The role of the Pb2+ on scheelite was evaluated. Additionally, the dissolution behavior of minerals and the adsorption mechanism of collectors were investigated systematically via SEM, XRD, EDS. The results indicate that the ultrasonic cavitation can promote the formation of scheelite with large particle size and high crystallinity. Due to the exchange of WO4 2- and OH-, the dissolution of scheelite are not in a 1:1 equivalent amount by chemical formula and the concentration of WO4 2- is higher than that of Ca2+ in the solution because Pb2+ promotes the transfer of WO4 2- from scheelite surface into the solution. The dissolution of scheelite is an endothermic reaction and its enthalpy reaches the maximum value of 692.59J·mol-1 at pH=8~10. But the coating of Pb2+ changes the thermal effect of scheelite in the solution and the dissolution of SC is an exothermic reaction with the dissolution enthalpy of -262.30 J·mol-1. At pH=8~10, the adsorption capacity of sodium oleate and salicylhydroxamic acid on the surface of SC is higher than that of scheelite which delivers that Pb2+ contributes to the scheelite surface dissolution and enhances the adsorption of collectors on the mineral surface, thus achieving activation.INTRODUCTIONIn modern society, tungsten is a type of quite important rare metal and also a strategic resource. Because of its low vapor pressure, high melting point, good electrical and thermal conductivity properties, it is widely applied in high-temperature technology, lighting, machine and engine construction (Zhao,Z.W, 2013; Yan, W, 2017; Ilhan, S, 2013). Both scheelite and wolframite are the major tungsten deposits. With the depletion of easily-processed wolframite, scheelite has drawn a great deal of scientific and industrial attention. Scheelite can be recovered by flotation due to the metathesis of polarity and chargeability on minerals surface via adding regulators and collectors."

Surface chemical factors, including the balance of hydrophobic (e.g. collectors) and hydrophilic (e.g. oxidation products, precipitates) species, are major control determinants in flotation rates of specific minerals and therefore grade and recovery. There are a number of challenges involved with the surface analysis of different mineral phases from process streams in a flotation facility. The first is to collect samples that are representative of the process and retain their surface chemistry prior to introduction into the instrument. The second challenge in studying the surface chemistry of specific minerals is to find reliable methods of mineral phase recognition. In surface analysis of mineral particles, confident mineral selection can be difficult with many multi-metal minerals and with precipitated, adsorbed, reacted and contaminant species in the outermost molecular layers. The third challenge is to provide a statistical surface analysis of multiple grains of the same mineral. Methods to achieve these aims are described. Principal component analysis (PCA) of ToF-SIMS data provides improvement in phase recognition, particle selection and associated variations in surface species. Specific examples from both lab and plant operations, demonstrate that this technique can be utilized to differentiate surface chemical factors promoting (hydrophobic species) or inhibiting (hydrophilic species) flotation. A study of copper ion transfer (inadvertent activation) from chalcopyrite to pyrite and sphalerite clearly identified a statistical difference in copper intensities between the sphalerite and pyrite phases corresponding to their flotation response. The PCA analysis applied to concentrate and tails samples collected from the Inco Matte Concentrator demonstrated extensive CuOH and NiOH transfer between chalcocite and heazlewoodite minerals. The statistical analysis has been able to identify mechanisms controlling recovery and selectivity. High intensity conditioning (HIC) tests in which sphalerite was separated from a complex sulfide ore gave a 5% increase in the overall Zn recovery. The PCA/ToF-SIMS statistical analysis revealed the discriminating depressant action of adherent aluminosilicate (gangue) fine particles and adsorbed ions on the surface of sphalerite grains. HIC conditioning resulted in the removal of these gangue fines improving surface collector attachment efficiency.

The present paper deals with the development of flotation based process for enrichment of a lead-zinc sulphide ore from Ganesh-Himal region of Nepal. Detailed characterisation and flotation studies were carried out under varying process conditions. The sample assayed 2.47% Pb with 13.6% Zn. The ore was predominantly made up of spahlerite and pyrite in association with subordinate amounts of galena, minor amounts of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. Dolomite was the main gangue. The modal analysis showed the probability of fair liberation of sulphides from gangues around 210 microns but the locking of galena with sphalerite and other sulphides continued to finer sizes. Under the optimum process conditions the rougher lead and zinc recoveries were 96.3% and 90% respectively. Multistage cleanings of rougher products proved helpful in improving the concentrate grade, meeting the required specification. Based on the studies undertake a process flow-sheet for the concentration of the ore to individual lead and zinc concentrates was developed.

"A phosphate deposit of estimated 6 billion tons of P2O5 is located 180 to 300 meters below the sea level, 185 kilometers north of port Luderitz, Namibia. The ore bed is 6 kilometers wide and 220 kilometers long. The ore deposit analyzing 16% P2O5 is loose sediment of 1.5 meters thick without over burden. Sizing of the ore to - 1.4 mm + 0.150 mm improves the grade to 23.54% P2O5 with a P2O5 recovery at 83.75% containing phosphate pellets and flakes of sea shells. Clay, bacterial debris as organic matter, flakes of broken sea shells and fine phosphate containing particles report to - 0.150 mm fraction and + 1.4 mm fraction contains sea shells and few phosphate containing pellets. The mineralogical composition of phosphate containing pellets is estimated (Droste, T.C., 2004) 80% frankolite, 6% pyrite, 4% illite, 3% quartz, 3% amorphous SiO2, 1% carbonates, 1% organic carbon and = 1% ilmenite, magnetite, zircon etc. The phosphate content in the pellets is around 27.7% P2O5. Trials to separate by gravity or flotation processes were not successful. Leaching of carbonates (sea shell flakes) under mild acidic condition (= 2% acetic acid or HCl solutions) or calcinations followed by leaching however yielded residues (concentrates) of grades 27.85 - 32.74% P2O5 at P2O5 recoveries ranging from 78.45 - 96.8% P2O5."

"The effect of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) on flotation separation of fluorite from bastnaesite and its selectively depression mechanism on fluorite were studied by single mineral flotation, artificial mixed minerals flotation, solution chemistry analyses, Zeta potential and XPS measurements.The results show that fluorite can be deeply depressed by EDTA while the flotation of bastnaesite is almost unaffected when octanohydroxamic acid (OHA) is used as a collector. The separation index (SI) between bastnaesite and fluorite increases with the dosage of EDTA, SI can be raised from 1.18 to 12.66 when EDTA dosage increases from 0 to 2×10-3mol/L.Solution chemistry analyses show that EDTA is able to convert the Ca(OHA)2 hydrophobic precipitation on fluorite surface to a soluble Ca-EDTA complex but cannot complexly dissolve the Ce(OHA)3 precipitation on bastnaesite surface. Therefore, the Zeta potential of OHA conditioned fluorite can be reduced significantly by EDTA while the reduction degree to Zeta potential of bastnaesite is relatively low. XPS measurement shows that EDTA removes the chemically adsorbed OHA from fluorite surface but has little effect on the adsorbed OHA on bastnaesite surface. As a result, fluorite can be selectively depressed by EDTA in bastnaesite flotation, which behaves an important industrial application prospect in rare earth ore flotation.INTRODUCTIONNowadays, Rare earth elements (shortened as RE) and compounds are of significant importance for a range of rapidly expanding industrial applications including catalysis, metallurgy, renewable energy, and special materials due to their unique electrical, magnetic, optical and chemical properties [1]. The seventeen RE elements, including the lanthanide-group fifteen elements, yttrium and scandium, could be divided into three groups, i.e., light, medium and heavy RE elements based on the different solubility of RE sulfates [2]. Bastnaesite ((Ce,La)CO3), containing approximately 75% REO, is one of the most important light RE minerals [3]. Flotation is the common method to recover basetnaesite [4-6]. Nonetheless, basetnaesite is often associated with calcium-bearing gangue minerals such as fluorite, and the separation of basetnaesite and fluorite by flotation is usually difficult due to their similar surface properties and therefore floatability [7-9]. Therefore, research on high selective flotation reagents of bastnaesite over gangue minerals has attracted a lot of attention [10]."

"Heap leaching is well-established as a relatively low-cost and low-energy method of extracting metals from low grade ores. However, the design methodology, attention to the engineering details during heap construction and the long time scale in metal recovery makes the process susceptible to significant variation in the success of a heap leach operation. Often the laboratory predicted recovery rates are not achieved on site due to poor understanding of the complex physics of flow and coupled solid-liquid-thermal reactions within the multi-dimensional heterogeneous ore body. Given the large scale of commercial operations, small changes in metal recovery can substantially change the operating profitability. While there are a variety of approaches to heap leach modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling coupled with leach kinetic models offers a methodology to describe and understand the complexities of heap leaching. The CFD model uses leach kinetics specific for the mineralogy of the ore, including gangue chemistry, and provides an energy balance to calculate and predict temperature. Coupled with the CFD model’s inherent capability for modeling complex fluid flow, the physics and the chemistry of the heap can be simulated. This provides a tool for engineering design, as well as forecasting heap production under different scenarios. The calibrated model is used to simulate a three-dimensional test heap under fluctuating meteorological data, such as precipitation events, periodic solution application, and notably temperature. These simulations provide support for a methodology to design and engineer heap leaching of low grade copper sulfide ore. INTRODUCTION Worldwide copper ore reserves are faced with decreasing head grades with copper sulfides, particularly chalcopyrite being the predominant mineralogy (Nesse, 2000). Heap leaching offers an economical way to recover copper from low grade ore. The ore is stacked and a leach solution is applied and allowed to trickle though the porous bed of ore to extract target metals. The heap can be built with run of mine material or crushed ore and is constructed in order to achieve percolation of the leach solution to all regions. Bartlett (1998) provides an authoritative overview of the solution mining process where the leach solution interacts with the solid, the lixiviant dissolves the target minerals from the solid into the solution, and the dissolved species are transported out of the heap for subsequent recovery. Petersen (2016) provides a recent review of heap leach technology and emerging and potential future applications, and Ghorbani et al. (2016) summarizes the current state and challenges of the technology. Early applications of heap leaching offered a low cost technique to achieve high recoveries from oxide ores, typically greater than 70% depending upon the kinetics of reaction. As world copper resources transition to mainly copper sulfide mineralogy, such as chalcopyrite based ores, achieving high recovery from these copper sulfide deposits is proving more difficult due to the complexity of the leach kinetics, which leads to low leaching efficiency."

Most of the iron ore washing plants set up in India consist of sizing of the ore by dry / wet screening, washing and classification by screw classifiers followed by multi-stage hydrocycloning of screw classifiers? overflow. The underflow of the hydrocyclones forms the concentrate which is used for pellets making. As the cut-point of hydrocyclones is generally at 20 microns, relatively lower diameter cyclones in a cluster with parallel feeding are used. This is found to, often, result in choking of the spigots, at times, by extraneous material as well reporting along with the slurry. It is observed to lead to sub-optimum performance of the cyclones with loss of iron values into cyclone overflow and thereafter into tailings. Analysis of data of an operating beneficiation plant (Beneficiation Plant - 1, BP - 1) of M/s Jindal South West (JSW) Steel Limited, Karnataka, India over a period of one year indicated that weight recovery of the concentrate from two-stage hydrocycloning was 45% (with respect to feed to the cyclones) and assaying 63.43% Fe, 4.43% SiO2 and 2.32% Al2O3. CSIR - National Metallurgical Laboratory - Madras Centre (NML - MC), India developed flotation process for processing screw classifier overflow with a view to improve the recovery of ultrafine iron values from it. Detailed investigations at laboratory scale flotation column and on-site pilot plant trials proved that the production of the concentrate and productivity of the plant could be enhanced by adopting reverse cationic column flotation technology. It was established that a typical screw classifier overflow analyzing 60.54% Fe, 5.95% SiO2 and 3.67% Al2O3 could be upgraded to 64.21% Fe, 2.64% SiO2 and 2.20% Al2O3 with 82.7% weight and 84.7% Fe recovery. This translates into an increase of 80% in weight recovery of the concentrate compared to what is being obtained, at present, by two-stage cycloning. It had an added advantage of reduced SiO2 in the concentrate. Thus, SiO2 in the final concentrate could be reduced to 2.64% from 4.43% by adopting column flotation. The concentrate so generated meets the stringent specifications, especially in terms of alumina in it(should be less than 2.50%) for pellets making. Later, JSW Steel Limited set up the flotation plant in BP - 1 based on the process developed by NML - MC and was commissioned in 2010. Tangdan copper oxide deposit, the largest independent copper oxide deposit in China so far, is located in the northeast of Yunnan province, southwest of China. The ore from this deposit is characterized by: low grade, high oxidation ratio, and fine-grained disseminated, resulting in poor flotation recovery. The analysis of plant flotation data reveals that the loss of copper minerals into tailings is mainly with coarse size fraction due to insufficient liberation and fine size fractions, especially minus 10 microns fraction, which proved to be very difficult-to-float with conventional flotation. In order to improve the performances of plant flotation of this ore, laboratory flotation tests were conducted with the pure malachite, which was the principle copper oxide mineral in Tangdan copper ore deposit. The results obtained suggested that a finer grinding (up to -325 mesh or even -400 mesh) be needed to decrease the loss with coarse size fraction, and vacuum flotation is a promising way for the recovery of the fine malachite effectively.

This article presents results of studies performed to determine the feasibility of using low-grade limonite ores from Yunnan deposit. Laboratory tests and commercial trials have shown that the magnetic separation can be performed with a high high-grade concentrates. The quality of the preparation concentration meets the requirements for blast-furnace smelting. The results as a whole demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing bank limonite ore. Yunnan limonite?s magnetic separation, roasting magnetic separation and flotation experimental study shows that grade of the ore grade can been from 32.91% heighten to 58.64%, a recovery of iron is 90.87%, productive rate is 51% through orthogonal test optimization; roasting magnetic separation can obtain that the grade of iron preparation concentrate is 61.16%, recovery is 67.39%, productive rate is 36%. Pyrite is present as a gangue mineral in most of complex sulphide ores and most of time it is removed as a tailing. However, beneficiation of pyrite from tailings could be important because of its economical value and for the environmental concern. This paper presents a research for the enrichment of pyrite from copper plant tailings, Siirt-Madenköy/Turkey, by flotation. Siirt-Madenköy copper mine is operated by Park Electric Production Mining and Industry since 2005. In order to obtain the pyrite from Siirt-Madenköy copper plant tailings, laboratory test work has to be done to determine the type of reagents, the flowsheet, and the size of plant. The objective of the company is to develop a pyrite flotation circuit for concentration of pyrite from tailing dam to obtain 500.000 tons/year pyrite concentrate. There are about 3 million tons tailings that containing pyrite in the tailings dam. Experiments were carried out with three different types of tailings from the plant and the pyrite concentrate with 46% Fe and 90% recovery has been obtained. Therefore, this study shows that high grade pyrite with high recovery can be recovered from the tailings.

In this study, Ca-bentonite was subjected to a series of systematic hydrocyclone tests with the aim of developing separation procedures and in turn achieving optimum recoveries. In hydrocyclone tests, vortex and apex diameters and also feed pressures were investigated. In each hydrocyclone set, vortex diameter was kept constant while the other two parameters varied to produce bentonites con-centrates of various smectite contents. The separation efficiencies were evaluated based on the cation exchange capacity (CEC), particle size and swelling index. The detailed hydrocyclone tests showed that, upgrading of Ca-bentonites require procedures different from the bentonites reported in the literature. Sodium and mixed bentonites are easy- to-disperse and easy-to-separate whereas calcium types need to be scrubbed rigorously for disintegration. Scrubbing properties of ca-bentonite were investigated as a function of scrubbing time and percent solids by weight (PS). The scrubbing conditions at 700 rpm for 1.5 hours and percent solids of 30 % were found more effective for achieving a better quality bentonite. In addition to the parameters mentioned above, the effect of percent solids on hydrocyclone separation was also studied. Although Ca-bentonites permit studying at higher percent solids, increasing solids content of the pulp deteriorated the quality of the clean products. Application of an appropriate separation scheme enabled the development of a unique separation procedure involving stage wise scrubbing followed by hydrocycloning which yielded calcium bentonite concentrates with CEC of 90 meq/100 g and high swelling indexes of 12 mL from the original bentonite of 65 meq/100 g and 7.0 mL, respectively. These results indicate that upgraded bentonite products can be conveniently used in various diverse industrial applications including bleaching earth, desiccant, cat litter, paper etc.

With the increasing applications of the Chinese metal magnetic liners, the requirement for their technical specifications has become stricter and stricter. It is necessary to deeply analyse the metal magnetic liners in order to improve their reliability and economics. The key issue of metal magnetic liners is magnetic forces: their attractions to mill shell and protection layer. Mathematical models were developed using finite-element analysis software and systematic simulation analyses of the two most critical indexes of magnetic liners were performed to find out the most important parameters and their effect on the liner?s characteristics. The relationships between magnetic forces and installation gaps, thickness of permanent magnets and thickness of protection layer may be used to guide the design of metal magnetic liners for ball mills in order to achieve good economic indexes.

With increasing of mining depth, many iron ores in Liaoning Province contain carbonates such as siderite and ankerite. The emergence of these carbonates in ores creates a fatal impact on the running producing process of anionic reverse flotation in Dong Anshan Sintering Plant, which leads to ?concentrate and tailing no separated?. And its reason is still unknown. Moreover, siderite, despite that its ferric theoretic grade is only 48.2%, however, do not affect the blast furnace utilization factor, therefore, can be used as raw materials in ironmaking. In order to solve the separate problem of iron ore containing carbonates, five pure minerals, martite, magnetite, quartz, siderite and ankerite, were selected for a series single flotation experiment. The aim was to discover the flotation difference of these minerals, furthermore, to explore a new flow sheet for the iron ore containing carbonates. The results of single mineral flotation experiment reveal that the combination regulators, starch and CaCl2, in different pH extent, can make these minerals taking on obvious flotation difference, which make it possible to process the iron ore containing carbonates. A new flow sheet, step-flotation, to process iron ore containing carbonates is explored, that is, first step, direct-flotation processing, is to eliminate the bad effect that the carbonates bring in flotation system by collecting carbonates under neutral condition; the second step, reverse?flotation processing, is to get qualified iron concentrate by collecting quartz under alkaline condition. Manual mixed ore sample were processed successfully through this new flowsheet under proper reagent system, which has absolute advantage compared with routine flowsheet. Actual ore sample of compound magnetic separation concentrate were processed successfully both open and closed circuit experiment through this new flowsheet. SEM and EDS were used to probe the reason why carbonates affect the regular processing. It is analyzed that moderate floatability of siderite and its coating on the surface of hematite and quartz make the phenomenon ?concentrate and tailing no separated?. This research provides a reasonable processing scheme for iron ores containing carbonates and can be used for reference in processing other complicated, refractory iron ore.

"Present paper deals with the investigation of a Hungarian pumice. Grinding experiments were carried out in a stirred media mill for various residence time. Ground samples were tested with laser particle size analyzer to determine and calculate the material fineness (particle size distribution and specific surface area). The lime adsorption capacity was measured to monitor the reactivity. Alkali activated cement paste was prepared using ground pumice with various alkali activators. Cube shaped specimens were produced from the paste and the uniaxial compressive strength was measured at the age of 7 days. The resulted alkali activated material structure was investigated by XRD and FTIR. The results of the experiments show that pumice fineness has strong impact on its hydraulic activity, hence on the compressive strength and the structure of the resulted binder. Relationships between grinding fineness, material structure and strength of the raw and mechanical activated material as well as the alkali activated cement were revealed. INTRODUCTION Pumice is a natural pozzolan which can be used as raw material for cementitious materials in limited portion owing to its low reactivity. Furthermore, due to its mineralogical composition it can be used for developing a new environmental friendly binder, namely alkali activated cements (AAC) which are inorganic alumina-silicate materials with good cementitious properties (Almalkawi et al., 2017; Özodabas and Yilmaz, 2013; Najimi et al. 2018; Yadollahi et al., 2015). Despite being a rather recent research topic, many papers and books have been published focusing on various aspects of alkali activation. There is great variety of raw materials that can be utilized for AAC production. However, primary raw materials are very expensive and secondary materials are heterogenous in composition. Therefore, a more homogeneous and low price silicate would help to balance the properties and cost of resulting cement and easing the way for commercialization of AAC. However, the control of its reactivity is of great importance which can be realized using mechanical activation by grinding (Juhász and Opoczky, 1990; Djobo et al., 2016; Mádai et al., 2015). Hydrothermal method was applied in the preparation of calcium sulfate whiskers in airtight re-actor using gypsum as primary materials. The optimum conditions of preparation are as follows: pH value 9.8~10.1, concentration 5%, material size 18.1µm, which were determined by the analysis of the diameter of CaSO4 whiskers through SEM. On these conditions a product of ultrafine CaSO4 whiskers with diameter of 0.19µm and aspect ratio of 98 is obtained. Ultrafine CaSO4 whiskers with different concentrations, modified by titanate NDZ-401, were added into polypropylene as intensifier and composites of Ultrafine CaSO4 whiskers/ polypropylene were prepared by melting-extruding method. Mechanical performance of the composites was tested and surface morphology of the composites was observed by SEM. The results indicated that impact notched izod of the composites was enhanced by 49.5% compared with pure polypropylene when 10.0% Ultrafine CaSO4 whiskers were added into polypropylene and toughening effect was very remarkable. Dispersion behaviour and interface phenomenon of Ultrafine CaSO4 whiskers in polypropylene matrix were investigated by SEM. The results indicated that Dispersion performance of Ultrafine CaSO4 whiskers modified by titanate NDZ-401 in polypropylene matrix is good, which improved mechanical performance of composites to some extent.

Eddy current separators have become generally used in waste recycling industry during the last decade. There are many papers dealing with separation processes on eddy current separators, and also many article describes particle trajectory and different particle features affecting particle trajectory. These data are used in modeling as well. Within the frame of R&D project called ‚Fundamental research into the exploitation of the economic development potentials of critical raw materials in international co-operation - CriticEl?, authors are aimed for using Eddy Current Separator (ECS) as a mechanical separation step of high value critical elements recovery of selected WEEE’s like display panels, PCB’s. ECS, equipped with 305 mm wide belt, and a concentric magnetic rotor is used for experiments targeted development of methodology for determining separability of different particles on ECS. The subject of our work was to investigate the behavior of model particles with different shape, conductivity (aluminum and copper), orientation and size in order to separate Al and Cu according to the results of many experiments were carried out in this field. However it looks like that throwing distance of one particle is only possible to describe by a certain distribution for even the same particle within the frame of the same conditions. Sample mean and standard deviation are depending on some of the particle feature and acting forces. The paper is going to draft the first results on the relationship between distribution of throwing distance and particle properties.
