THE reasons for manufacturing steel by the duplex process are, briefly: saving of time; increasing output for capital invested; and avoiding the difficulty sometimes experienced in obtaining scrap. On account of the latter reason, some plants duplex only at such times as the price and quantity of scrap in the open market warrant. At some plants the use of the duplex process enables, the blast-furnace practice to be simplified, because the furnaces run more smoothly and produce more iron when not held to a strict specification as to the silicon and phosphorus therein. The duplex process was practiced in Witkowitz as far back as 1878, but it was left to the steel makers of this country to develop it along practical, commercial lines. The American companies manufacturing steel by the duplex process at the present time are: Tennessee Coal, Iron & Railroad Co., Maryland Steel Co., Bethlehem Steel Co., Pennsylvania Steel Co.; Jones & Laughlin Steel Co., Colorado Fuel & Iron Co., Lacka-wanna Steel Co., Dominion Iron & Steel Co. of Canada. All of these companies, except the Dominion Iron & Steel Co., combine the acid Bessemer with the basic open-hearth process, while the latter combines the basic Bessemer with the basic open hearth. The Tennessee Coal, Iron & Railroad Co.'s Plant The installation of a converter of 15 tons capacity at the Ensley plant of the Tennessee Coal, Iron & Railroad Co. in 1904 marked the introduction into this country of the duplex system. The experience gained in the employment of the Bessemer converter had demonstrated that there was a shortening of .the time required in the open-hearth furnace and a reduction of the outlay for fuel and lime, thus affording substantial evidence of the economies resulting from this method.

MeltiXg procedures for most metals and alloys usually include some provision for the control of oxygen, since this element frequently has some undesirable effect on the properties of the metal or alloy concerned. In the melting of the various bronzes, this is especially true, since oxygen can be introduced into the melt in a number of ways, most of which are difficult to control. In making bronzes from virgin materials, oxygen is usually present in the commercial grades of copper used; electrolytic fire-refined copper ingots usually contain from 0.02 to 0.05 per cent oxygen. When ingot metal or scrap bronze is used in the charge, oxides are almost always present to some degree. Under certain melting conditions and in certain types of melting equipment the atmosphere over the metal may be highly oxidizing. This, of course, may be desirable in the melting practice used, but is certain to introduce appreciable amounts of oxygen into the melt, and that may not be entirely desirable. From the foundry viewpoint oxygen may have several harmful effects on bronzes. The formation of excessive amounts of oxides may produce drossy metal, which, in turn, means dirty castings and a potentially high rejection rate. It is claimed, too, that oxides in the metal may combine with hydrogen to form steam and thereby produce porosity in certain of the bronzes. The presence of certain refractory oxides, such as SnOz, may be undesirable from the viewpoint of making machining difficult, or as possible stress-raisers in the metal matrix. It is often said that excessive oxide present in the liquid metal makes the metal run sluggishly. Since it appears impractical to try to control the amount of oxygen introduced into the metal beyond taking the economical limit of precaution about charging dirty scrap, it would seem' that control of the oxygen content of the liquid metal offers the most promising approach to this problem. This might be done by using slags, or covers, or by the use of some element or compound added to the melt to remove oxygen preferentially. Most aspects of this problem have been considered and considerable work has been done along these lines. A reconsideration of the problem is indicated, however, by the controversial nature of the evidence at hand, especially on the possibility of using a chemical deoxidizer to control the oxygen content of bronzes. Choice of Deoxidizer The choice of the chemical agent selected as a deoxidizer would naturally depend first on the alloy in which it is to ~he used: in this particular case the alloy is Navy gun metal. This paper examines the difficulties of applying the finite element (FE) method of analysis to quantitative design of cable bolt systems. Cable bolt systems are in general use for ground control in VCR (Vertical Crater Retreat) topes throughout the world. However, despite their widespread use and importance, design of cable bolt systems is highly subjective. Two difficulties with the FE approach are examined: (i) the use of standard elements with a high aspect ratio (slender elements) to represent bolts, and (ii) the influence of cable bolts on hanging wall stability of a VCR study stope. Analysis results indicate that the use of slender elements for bolts is practical in large scale finite element analyses of VCR stopes. There are significant advantages in this approach to the engineering design of cable bolt systems in underground mining.

The Oklahoma legislature recently passed a bill providing for "the creation of an oil and gas department under the jurisdiction of the Corporation Commission, authorizing the Corporation Commission to appoint a chief oil and gas conservation agent, and conferring exclusive jurisdiction on the Corporation Commission in reference to the conservation of oil and gas, and the inspection of gasoline and oil, the product of crude petroleum, and repealing all acts or parts of acts in conflict therewith and declaring an emergency." Some of the functions of the new bureau include the receiving and filing of all well logs, and the direction and supervision of plugging all abandoned oil and gas wells, under rules prescribed by the Corporation Commission. The two leading petroleum-producing States of the country, Oklahoma and California, have now established oil and gas bureaus with a staff of inspectors to see that the important rules relating to the conservation of oil and gas are thoroughly enforced. The economic significance and the value of well logs in the conservation work has been recognized, and the necessary legal action taken to insure and procure them. William B. Heroy, of the Government Land Classification Board, in a personal communication to the writer, says that the drilling of wells is also regulated by public authority in the Roswell artesian basin in southeastern New Mexico, where a permit must be obtained for the drilling of any well and a certified log of the well recorded with a county official. The method is said to give fairly satisfactory results. In a recent article1 a National instead of a State Bureau was suggested for collecting and filing well logs. In discussing the paper, L. L. Hutchison characterized such a plan as impractical because the average driller or contractor will often juggle or guess at the log and will not keep the record sufficiently close or accurate, making it necessary to maintain a special man at each well for the sole purpose of obtaining

Although the use of dense suspensions for coal cleaning was pioneered in the United States with the Chance sand flotation process, and during the past year a pilot plant using a magnetite suspension has started operation in this country, the more recent developments in this field of coal cleaning have occurred principally in the Netherlands. During the thirties the Dutch developed the Barvoys process, in which a medium of barite and clay is employed, the Tromp process, which utilizes a magnetite suspension, and the Loess process, in which is used the air-borne earth or soil known as loess.1-3 All these processes are finding increasing use in European coal-cleaning practice. Now a fourth process, the cyclone cleaner, is under development by the Netherlands State Mines. A cyclone thickener for reclaiming and thickening the dense suspension is a novel feature of the Loess process. Through accident, the discovery was made that the cyclone could be utilized as a cleaning device for fine coal. When the cyclone thickener at the Maurits mine plugged, the overflow was found filled with clean coal free of refuse, and from this observation developed the concept of the cyclone as a coal cleaner. In June 1945 the cyclone cleaner was observed by one of the authors,' and in September 1945 it was described by Dries-sen6 in a paper presented in London before the Institute of Fuel. As the cyclone seemed to offer unusual promise as a means of extending heavy-medium cleaning to the finer sizes of coal that cannot readily be treated in existing heavy-medium processes, the Bureau of Mines, following Driessen's, presentation, launched an investigation of the cyclone as a coal cleaner. Added impetus was given to this study by the present increased interest in heavy-medium cleaning in this country. Object and Scope of Investigation Driessen's report, although comprehensive in many respects, did not include a detailed description of the cyclone cleaner, and contained almost no information on the influence of the various operating variables of the cyclone. It was necessary, therefore, to investigate the influence of the cyclone adjustments on its performance before studying the application of the cyclone to various coal-washing problems. The present report is confined entirely to these preliminary tests, designed to demonstrate the operating characteristics of the cyclone. The investigation has been in progress

About a year and a half ago, at the San Francisco meeting of the American Chemical Society, in connection with the excursions to local smelting-works, I had occasion to show some lantern-slides illustrating the recent commercial development of electrical methods for precipitating the suspended matter from smelter-smoke, the underlying phenomena of which were clearly brought to the attention of the technical public by Sir Oliver Lodge as long ago as 1884. In the .Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, August, 1911, most of these views were reproduced, together with an account of the work from its beginning up to July, 1911. To-day I wish particularly to show you some of the further developments of the work since that time; but in order to make these clear they will be prefaced by a brief abstract of the article above referred to. The removal of suspended particles, from gases, by the aid of electric discharges is by no means a new idea. As early as 1824 we find it suggested by Hohlfeld ' as a means of suppressing ordinary smoke, and again a quarter of a century later by Guitard.2 These suggestions, which do not seem to have stimulated any practical study of the question, were soon entirely forgotten, and only brought to light again by Sir Oliver Lodge: many years after he himself had independently rediscovered the same phenomena and brought them to public attention4 in a lecture before the Liverpool Section of the So-

This paper presents the development of diamond coring of the Weber sand section in the Rangely Field, Colorado. The description and operation of the diamond-coring equipment is included as well as the economics and results obtained by its use. Diamond coring is compared with the other methods used for drilling the Weber sand. Two types of diamond coring are discussed. The first and the one used most extensively is the regular 6 ?x 3¾-in. diamond bit and bottom hole 50-ft barrel. The second type, which has also been used successfully by Stanolind, consists of a 4 13/16 x 2 11/32-in. cutting bit and reverse circulation coring equipment. The first type will be referred to as regular or conventional diamond coring while the latter type will be referred to as reverse circulation diamond coring. Introduction Diamond coring has been used for many years in mines, quarries, surface coring at dam sites, laboratory work, and so on, but, until recently, had never been used very extensively in coring oil sands and other oil-bearing strata. It was demonstrated early in its development that hard forma-tions could be cut rapidly and that core recoveries far exceeded those obtained with conventional hard rock bits and quite often 100 pet recovery was obtained. However, the poorly constructed diamond-coring equipment and resulting high costs of early diamond coring slowed down its progress. Early in the development Of the Rangely Weber field, Rio Blanco County, Colorado, the Rangely Engineering Committee selected key wells that were to core the Weber section in its entirety. These cores were to be analyzed and various sections tested to gather sufficient information so that accurate reservoir studies could be made. The number of wells selected were kept at a minimum inasmuch as the productive Weber section, which is found at an approximate depth of 6000 ft, is thick, being as much as 600 to 700 ft on top of the structure. The Weber section is also comparatively hard to drill. For instance, one well took 60 days to core 490 ft of Weber sand with conventional coring equipment. It was noticed, however, that Core Labora-verse diamond plug cutter could quickly cut a plug from. one of these hard cores. This fact led to the serious consideration of diamond coring the Weber sand. The first diamond coring at Randy was performed by Stanolind in August 1946 andl although we experienced some difficulties, the results definitely indicated that diamond coring would be successful at Rangely for .coring the Weber sand. As more wells were cored and the equipment improved somewhat, diamond coring became less expensive than drilling the Weber sand with the conventional rock bit. In less than one Year diamond coring has definitely Proved its usefulness in oil-field drilling operations in the Rocky Mountain area where formations quite often drill very hard. The practice of spot coring in hard oil-bearing formations with conventional coring equipment is giving way diaimond coring of the entire sections, thus givng an operator the complete picture.

At the beginning of a Henry M. Howe lecture it seems fitting to refer to Howe's great contributions to steel metallurgy, and particularly to the literature thereof. Most of my predecessors in this role have been able, from their association with him, to give direct testimony as to his great services; but although connected with him for years in a business way, I am less familiar with what might be called his academic side, except as it is embodied in his utterances, written and oral. Howe was adept in his genial way in extracting information in any line which, at the time, was of interest to him. In a technical lecture one expects as a rule new knowledge—something about recent advances relating to the subject. On this occasion, however, I will ask you to go back with me to the primary department of steel lore, as the title of my lecture shows, to review the more fundamental features in that field for the purpose of seeking some gaps which we can fill and so give the subject renewed interest. In thus going back one must inevitably repeat many familiar facts, but that seems to be necessary in order to reach a clear understanding of the unrecorded matters. The full interpretation of a steel analysis is at present unattainable, though much progress toward that end has been made. The ultimate analysis, giving the percentages of the five commonly determined elements, does indeed usually give a fair idea of what the steel is, and is ordinarily enough, with knowledge of its history and physical condition, to enable it to be assigned to some purpose or use for which it is reasonably suitable. But discrepancies arise. Every maker and every user of steel knows, from at least occasional examples in his own experience, that the ultimate analysis is insufficient by itself to enable one to tell positively, from its interpretation, either the mechanical properties of the steel or its adaptability to the purpose for which it was made. Further, if, while having the specified composition, it is abnormal or unsatisfactory, why it is so. Good, bad and indifferent steels may have substantially the same ultimate analysis.

The literature of geophysics as applied to the discovery of mineral deposits has been very extensive during the past few years,' but there seem to be few references to the use of the method of least squares for obtaining better interpretations of the observed data.2 There seems to be a general reluctance among geologists and engineers to acquire the technique of least squares, in spite of the fact that a thorough knowledge of the theory is not necessary for the use of the method.

The following abstract of an unpublished treatise, prepared by me, on the geological formations and minerals of the State of Alabama, is deemed of interest to the Institute. This State, called after the river of the same name (which, formed by the junction of the Coosa and the Tallapoosa, waters, with its tributaries, more than half the State), is divided by its main watershed into a larger southern district, sloping south and southwest, and drained into the Gulf of Mexico, and a smaller northern district, sloping generally north and west, and drained into the Tennessee. Geologically the State may be divided (according to historical geology) according to the different formations it exhibits, among which I include the Azoic, the existence of which in Alabama has been doubted by some; or it may be divided (according to structural geology, as closely related to topography) into a north and northwestern, a middle, and a southern zone.

In reviewing petroleum development in Venezuela during the year 1936, it is well to bear in mind certain factors that affected progress, although not directly connected with the oil industry itself. At the start of the year, when the present Federal Administration took over the reins of government, reaction against the former regime resulted in some popular uprisings. Although these were entirely political in character, they were not without their effect on the oil industry itself. Such popular agitation really ended with a short general strike in Caracas, Maracaibo and other cities during June, these strikes being based on demands for certain changes in government policies. The strikes were duly investigated and their motives taken into consideration by the executive power or by Congress, and during the year many of the civil, political and administrative laws have been revised. In June and December, however, it was necessary to suspend activities in drilling and production work, particularly in the Lake Maracaibo Basin area. In June a strike caused a five-day shutdown in the main producing fields and on Dec. 14 labor difficulties resulted in a shutdown that continued to the end of the year, which necessitated suspension of all drilling and production in the Lake Basin area and curtailment of shipments to deep-water terminals. Actually, the strike lasted for a period of 42 days, until Federal intervention brought the dispute to a close with minor wage increases to workers hut with no loss of initiative or independence on the part of the oil companies. Operations in eastern Venezuela were not affected by the labor disturbances, production and exports having been reduced in December only in the Lake Basin fields. Well Completions On Jan. 1, 1937, a total of 3384 wells had been completed throughout Venezuelan fields, as compared with 3094 on Jan. 1,1936. Of these wells, 2005 were producers. The 290 completions effected during 1936 were by the following operating companies: Lago Petroleum Corporation, 123 completions; Dutch Shell group, 104; Standard Oil Company of Venezuela, 46; Mene Grande Oil Co., 15; British Controlled Oilfields, Ltd., 2.

METHODS and equipment are subject to study in the Butte district at all times in order that advantage may be taken of any new developments that might serve to increase efficiency and lower costs. Detailed time studies of each operation involved in the entire mining process have been of invaluable assistance in analyzing the individual operation for possible improvement. In other words, the fact that a practice has been in vogue for many years does not exempt it from change provided an easier and cheaper method can be found. EXPLORATION Ore occurs in the Butte district in such manner that structures must be drifted on, no matter how small or unimportant they appear when intersected by a crosscut. Parallel structures also add to the crosscut requirements. This prospecting work, which formerly was done entirely by drifting and crosscutting, is now being supplemented by diamond drilling, to aid in greatly decreasing the amount of waste. In long-shot prospecting, or in second or third class prospecting, where the chances of developing commercial ore are not very great, diamond drilling is of particular value. In prospecting where chances of encountering commercial ore are certain or where crosscuts can be used later for haulage or ventilation, drilling obviously is not applicable. Improvement in drilling machines and bits has contributed greatly to the present success of diamond drilling. STOPING For many years square-set filled sloping was the principal mining method used in the Butte district. Later timbered and untimbered rill stopes were used, also some horizontal cut-and-fill sloping where both ore and walls were particularly strong. Because of the amount of timber required for square-set stoping, and the relatively low production per scope unit, experiments with horizontal cut-and-fill scopes were begun in ore bodies of which many had fairly weak walls. It was felt that increase in the speed of the stoping operation, followed closely by filling, to avoid weight being produced by permitting ore and walls to remain insufficiently supported over comparatively long periods, would maintain the walls and backs in safe condition without the use of timber and without ore dilution from wall slough. Cycles of drilling, scraping ore, and filling were devised, which have materially increased stope production and decreased timber consumption, so that both stope labor and supply costs were lowered appreciably without materially affecting grade control. In the larger mines of the district, where wide veins favor this stoping method, half of the total production is now being mined by horizontal cut-and-fill stopes (Fig. I). The increase of the filling rate demanded by the increased stoping rate was the greatest obstacle encountered in the accelerated stoping operations. Finally this problem was solved by replacing the time-honored method of transferring filling waste by small cars, which were hoisted or lowered in the auxiliary shaft, by a transfer

A novel, highly sensitive, and reproducible nzetlzod for the determination of hydrogen in solid materials is presented. The procedure requires equilibration of the specimen with hydrogen gas, rapid quenching, and hot vacuum extraction of the dissolved gas with subse-quent quantitative analysis by mass spectroscopy. Good linearity is obtained for the Arrl~enius plots of the investigated metals. The advantages in the use of this method over that of Sieverts aye discussed. The solubility data for copper are in reasonable agveewzent with a considerable number of other inuestigations, wllile those fov silver are considerably lower than previously reported. The first known solubility data for gold are presented. Solubility equations and heats of MUCH of the data which are available on the solubility of hydrogen in various metals and alloys have been obtained by the classical Sieverts method.' The method involves the measurement of a decrease in pressure of a gas in a calibrated system, and the calculated contraction in volume is attributed to the solubility of the gas in the metal sample. The procedure requires several corrections, such as the solubility of the gas in the container walls and the diffusion of the gas through these walls, as noted by Steacie and .Johnson2 and others. In addition, errors may be incurred due to reactions between metal surface impurities, such as oxides, and the saturating gas. The precise calibration of the measuring system where large thermal gradients exist can present additional difficulties. Also, accurate volumetric measurements of small quantities of gas are difficult. Many of the objections to the Sieverts method were overcome on solid materials by Ransley and ~eufeld,~ who first saturated the metal with hydrogen and performed a subsequent extraction and measurement of the gas by chemical means. Eichenauer and pebler4 and Eichenauer, Kiinzig, and pebler5 measured the diffusion coefficient and solubility by following the degasification of a sample as a function of a rate of increase in pressure in a previously evacuated system. Here again, however, the procedure involves many of the corrections of the Sie-verts method. The present investigation deals with the solubility of hydrogen in solid copper, silver, and gold by a technique which eliminates many of the aforementioned corrections and possible errors. This procedure requires equilibration of the specimen with gas, rapid quenching, and hot vacuum extraction of the dissolved gas with subsequent quantitative analysis by mass spectroscopy. EXPERIMENTAL Two completely separate systems were employed to accomplish first, the equilibrium saturation of the sample and second, the extraction of the dissolved gas. Saturation Apparatus. The saturation apparatus, illustrated in Fig. l, consisted of a vertically mounted quartz tube with a three-way valve for vacuum or hydrogen near the top and an outlet near the bottom leading to a butyl phthalate seal. The grain-refinement effect of electromagnetic stirring of Sn-Pb alloys during solidification is investigated at higher field strength and in larger-sized samples. It is found that the grain-refining effect is due to a crystal multiplication phenomenon rather than a nucleation phenomenon. The effect increases with sample size for a fixed field strength and a fixed supercooling bath temperatures. The effect in other alloys was investigated. IN a recent publication1 it was reported that significant grain refinement could be produced during the solidification of a supercooled melt of Sn-Pb alloy when a critical degree of electromagnetic stirring was present in the melt. Thus, for a particular supercooling, AT, a critical magnetic field, Hc, existed at which the number of grains per unit volume, n, increased rather abruptly by a factor of 103 to 104 as the field, H, was increased by a small amount. It was further found that the undercooling at which the melt spontaneously nucleated, ?Tn, was independent of the magnetic field. These authors matched their experimental results against the qualitative expectations of existing theories and found each theory somewhat unsatisfactory. One important question that was not answered in this previous work was "should the effect be classed as a nucleation phenomenon or as a crystal-multiplication phenomenon?" Other valid questions that need answering are: i) do higher magnetic field strengths alter the nature of the results?; ii) what is the effect of higher lead content in the alloy?; iii) what changes occur when one extends the experiments to larger-diameter samples?; and iv) is this a universal effect applicable to the grain refinement of all materials? The present work directs its attention to answering these five questions. The

A mathematical model, which does not assume a priori that stratification exists, but was designed to test for the stratification was developed. The model segmented the reservoir horizontally into areas of common variance, then divided it vertically into strata (if strata were present). Next, trend surface techniques were used to determine the lateral extent and variation of each stratum. The model was tested on two reservoirs (sandstone and limestone) using porosity as the reservoir rock property. The sandstone reservoir contained approximately 60,000 samples from 2,000 cored wells, while the limestone reservoir had approximately 24,000 samples from 430 cored wells. Within the areas of common variance tested, the model was able to distinguish four separate lithological units or zones in the sandstone reservoir, four in the Marly section and seven in the Vuggy section of the limestone reservoir. INTRODUCTION To accurately predict the movement and production of fluids from a reservoir rock, it is necessary that the reservoir engineer have a knowledge of the rock properties and their distribution throughout the reservoir. For this study, a reservoir rock is defined as a solid containing interconnecting holes or voids which occur relatively frequently and are dispersed within the rock in a regular or random manner. The fraction of bulk volume that these interconnecting voids occupy is called porosity. The rock must also possess sufficient permeability to allow fluids to move through it and it may be composed of one or more strata or lithological units. A stratum or lithological unit as defined in this study is a body or volume of reservoir rock whose properties are so distributed that its lateral and vertical extent can be traced throughout or through a portion of the reservoir. Operationally, the existence of strata are question- able unless the variance within strata is less than among strata. Within the past few years computers have been widely used as a tool for calculating movement and production of fluids from reservoirs. Most prediction models require some type of a mathematical description of certain reservoir rock properties. In the past, most of these models have been relatively simple. Some have assumed vertical variation but no lateral variation, while others have assumed lateral variation but no vertical variation. In general, most of these models have not used functional relationships to predict reservoir rock properties as functions of position. The object of this study was to develop a model which would predict lateral and vertical variations of reservoir rock properties. Since samples are usually available from only a small portion of the total reservoir rock, it seemed logical that if measurements from these samples were to be used to infer the properties of the actual reservoir, the data should be treated statistically as a sample from the total population (reservoir). Therefore, the model developed in this study to predict reservoir rock properties was a stochastic model. The model was tested using porosity (a macroscopic reservoir rock property) measurements from two reservoirs — the first, a sandstone reservoir from which 60,000 samples were obtained; and the second, a limestone reservoir with 24,000 samples. Several investigators have proposed methods to determine the vertical and areal variation of a reservoir rock property. Stiles: Dykstra and Parsons 2 and Suder and Calhoun3 have all developed waterflooding prediction techniques which assume vertical variation but no lateral variation. Stiles developed a method to segment a reservoir arbitrarily using frequency distribution. Law4 suggested that porosity has a normal frequency distribution and that permeability has a log-normal frequency distribution. It was stated in a former paper1 that an intensive study of anthracite costs was being made by the engineers of the United States Fuel Administration. The results of this study are now available and are offered as a supplement to the former paper. Anthracite costs as reported for the 6-months period, December, 1917, to May, 1918, inclusive, as compiled by the Federal Trade Commission, were used as a base, and charts similar to those described in the former paper were made for the standard white ash anthracite and for red ash and Lykens valley coals. Adjustments The adjustments of cost from a reported to a price-fixing basis, as described for the bituminous methods, were applied but showed only minor adjustments as necessary. The great spread in anthracite prices on the varyingsizes, which for the 6-mo. period under review ranged in average from $5.244 for nut to $2.074 for barley coal, makes the question of the percentage of sizes produced at the different collieries a vital one. The realization with the same prices for each size must be within very wide limits, when it is considered that the percentage of prepared coal reported from different collieries varied from over 80 per cent. to below 30 per cent. for fresh-mined coal. Hence, as the spread in prices for the various sizes must be predicated on some percentage, it is essential to find some method of adjustment to allow for this variation. The logical method of adjustment is to calculate actual costs to costs as of the standard percentage of sizes, so that the margin between the adjusted costs and the average realization shall be the actual margin for each colliery between its actual costs and actual realization due to its particular percentage of sizes. As a base for realization the actual percentage of sizes for fresh-mined coal for the 6-mo. period was adopted. This percentage is given in Table 1.
