"Due to an increasing demand for nickel and cobalt and the depletion of nickel sulphide deposits worldwide, the production of ferronickel from lateritic nickel ores becomes more significant. About 60 percent of nickel reserves are present in laterite deposits. Common production methods like acid leaching or smelting operations implicate high material and energy consumption. Physical processing methods are also not efficient, because of the fine microstructural intergrowth of the minerals carrying valuable elements such as nickel and cobalt. Due to the high energy consumption of metallurgical treatment of lateritic nickel ore (nickel grade: 0.8 - 3.0%, Co: 0.05 - 0.15%), the separation of waste material (about 75 - 85%) before the metallurgical treatment is desirable. Therefore, an alternative process has been developed, combining a pyro-metallurgical pre-treatment with selected mechanical processing methods. The developed process consisted of a selective pre-reduction and non-selective segregation of the contained metal phases in the first stage. By this, the properties of the metal carrying minerals were changed and could become subject to concentration by means of fine beneficiation processes afterwards. The parameters of the pre-reduction and segregation were varied and the pre-treated samples were examined concerning their efficiency of metalization grade and metal grain size. This paper describes the investigation of pre-treatment methods of a lateritic nickel ore. The pre-treatment and possible subsequent separation methods were examined with regard to the recovery of the valuable elements. Metalization grade was around 80% for both Ni and Co with metal phase grain sizes below 20 µm. Scanning electron microscopy revealed distribution of new metal phases not only on the reducing agent, but also on the “slag” material.INTRODUCTION Nickel laterites are characterized as strongly weathered regoliths with several zones containing reserves of nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). These laterites are formed on serpentinites and ultramafic rocks under climatic and/or tectonic conditions that have changed over time (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The formation of Ni laterites is influenced by numerous geological and environmental factors. In general, there are three ore types named according to the dominant Ni hosting minerals: oxides, hydrous magnesia (Mg) silicates and clay silicates (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The most Ni laterite deposits contain two of these ore types, usually an oxide zone and an either clay or Mg silicate zone. Distribution of these principal deposit types, their average Ni-bearing phases and mean Ni grade are shown in Table 1. A schematic profile of the different deposits based on the development on serpentized ultramafic rocks is given in Figure 1 (Butt & Cluzel, 2013)."

"Traditional iron ore beneficiation plants using washing, screening, and jigging processes require large volumes of process water. Generated slime during processing, its disposal and impact on water usage, is an important concern for any mining company. The challenge today, during extracting iron ore, is how to dispose of slime such that it is contained and stable, while maximizing water reuse and minimizing surface footprint. The slime disposal methods are sensitive to the environment. Two major technologies presently being practiced for disposing the slime across the world are pressure filtration and paste thickening. In this perspective an attempt has been made to do comparative study between paste thickening and pressure filtration for selection of suitable slime disposable technology for Noamundi processing plant, Tata Steel. From the studies, it is evident that by adopting pressure filtration technique it was possible to produce filtered slime, whereas filtration, rate reduces significantly with the presence of finer fraction. Further , the greatest advantage of paste thickening is volume reduction of slime. By considering the technology limitation and comparative lab test work result, it is opined that combination of filtration and paste thickening technology is favorable in terms of capital and operating cost and slime >45 µ should be filtered and < 45 µ slime should go for paste thickening. The study and the results are presented in details.INTRODUCTION The beneficiation processes always end up with an enriched portion of desired mineral - “Concentrate” and an enriched portion of undesired minerals - “Tailing”. The proportion and nature of tailings generated in every beneficiation process differ from ore to ore and reflects the characteristics of the feed processed. The traditional method of tailing disposal in many mineral processing industries has been to dispose them as thickener underflow at around 35% solids. Though, it had certain advantages of transportation with ease but contribute to a greater volume occupied in the tailing dam. This sustained practice and failure to utilize the space available in the tailing dam judiciously endangered the mining industry. The tailing management has become the toughest task to the mining industry and most of the mines are running out of space for disposing the fresh tailings as many of these are at the verge of getting filled."

"The solution for the treatment of the EAFD has not yet been fully achieved. Some of this dust has still not found an appropriate final destination. Large consortium treatment plants are quite expensive both in terms of investment and operating cost. Meanwhile, the tolling expenses for steel production companies are becoming very important, causing them to look for alternatives. Some steel plants are looking to close their production loop by internal treatment of their dust. Some years ago, Engitec began studying the coupling of the EZINEX® Process, an ammonium chloride electrolysis to recover the zinc contained in the EAFD, with the INDUTEC® Process, a pyro process based on an induction furnace that can convert EAFD into a C.Z.O. similar to the Waelz oxide. The combination of these two processes provides an alternative to the existing treatment options and is particularly interesting for relatively small capacities. In this paper, we would like to give the latest update about these two processes and their possible integration INTRODUCTION Zinc is contained in numerous wastes and secondary raw materials that can be thought of as high zinc concentrate mines. This is a very interesting source of Zn that is typically easily exploitable. Unfortunately, only a portion of these materials are currently processed to recover the metal value, while stabilized or unstabilized landfilling is often the final destination. Pyrometallurgical processes are mainly used to convert the zinc into crude zinc oxide (CZO). The various processes are very similar and characterized by the fact that the zinc bearing materials are usually submitted to a thermal treatment [1] in which the zinc is reduced, vaporized and re-oxidized producing CZO. This material not only contains zinc oxide, but also relatively high concentrations of heavy metals. Many potential CZO sources, such as electric arc furnace dust (EAF), galvanizing ashes, brass foundry and converters fumes also contain chlorides, fluorides and alkali metals that will transfer to the CZO. The classic example is the Waelz oxide [2]. This CZO is an intermediate product that must be transformed into zinc salts or zinc metal. Until now, the conversion to zinc metal is done through two main processes: the sulphate leaching and electrowinning system and the Imperial Smelting Process (ISP). ISP is facing a crisis for technical and economic reasons that has led to the closing of most of the existing plants. In any case, before being fed to one of these two processes, the CZO must be treated to eliminate or reduce some of the contained impurities. In particular, the halides are most harmful to these processes."

Reverse froth flotation experiments were carried out in the laboratory using two different types of kaolins for the separation and removal of coloring titanoferrous impurities from cryo-filtered clay after subjecting to high shear pre-treatment. This high shear pre-treatment consists of high shear agitation of a high solids clay slurry with the dispersant (high shear dispersion, HSD) followed by high shear agitation with the collector (high shear conditioning, HSC). After this pretreatment, the slurry is diluted and reverse flotation is carried out. One sample is from, Gujarat, India (Mamuara clay, ?MC?) while the 2nd sample is from Amberg, Germany (AKW clay, ?AC?). While MC consisted of 89% particles below 2µm and analyzed 1.06% of TiO2 and 0.29% Fe2O3 and measured a brightness of 83.4 %ISO, the corresponding values for AC are 67% below 2µm, 0.3% of TiO2? 0.49% Fe2O3 and 83.4 %ISO. The flotation performance is found to be greatly influenced by the conditions of high shear treatment. Important variables are HSD intensity (rpm), HSD time, HSC intensity (rpm), HSC time, HSD/HSC time ratio, ?HSD+HSC? total time etc. Higher shear intensities favor both the impurity liberation and collection. For both clays, it could be shown that impurity removal increases as total pretreatment time (?HSD +HSC? total time) increases up to a certain limit. For MC, the HSD time was only half or less than that of HSC time, while for AC, HSD time is at least twice (or more) than HSC time which is just an opposite manifestation. This is believed to be due to the striking differences between these two clays. Most importantly, the shear frequency is found more influential than the shear rate for the overall flotation performance for both clays. Interestingly, at high shear frequencies, i.e., when a stirrer with more number of teeth on the rotor is used, the ?HSD+HSC? total time is greatly reduced. Again, increased shear frequency helps to reduce flotation time and significantly improves flotation performance. At optimum conditions, product titania reduced to 0.35% for MC whereas the same reduced to 0.13% for AC. The product of flotation of MC measured 85%ISO brightness while that of AC measured84.6%ISO thus enhancing the value of the final product. It could also be established that the high shear pre-treatment shows better flotation performance than that due to collector dosage. "Gold (Au) extraction is inefficient when crushed waste mobile phones (WMPs) are directly leached by ammonium thiosulfate likely because of the cementation/precipitation of dissolved Au in the presence of base metals like copper (Cu), iron (Fe) and/or aluminum (Al). This study applied physical separation techniques to remove base metals as well as plastics and concentrate the Au containing fractions from WMPs prior to leaching. Coarse fraction of crushed WMP (+2-5.6 mm) was pretreated by jig and magnetic separation to remove plastics and base metals like Fe, Cu, and Al, while the fine fraction (-2 mm) was pretreated by flotation, and float and sink separation. The leaching results showed that Au extraction increased in both of the size fractions. In the coarse fraction, Au extraction increased by as much as 2-fold after pretreated (from 4 to 7%). Improvement of Au extraction in the fine fractions after pretreatments were even more dramatic. Au extraction increased from 4 to 61%. These results indicate that physical pretreatment to remove co-existing common metals and plastics is effective to improve Au extraction from WMPs. INTRODUCTION Global sales of mobile phones are expected to increase steadily in the foreseeable future because a lot of people buy newer phones with upgraded and more advanced functions almost every two years, which leads to the higher generation of waste mobile phones (WMPs). WMPs contain a wide variety of materials including plastics, glasses, base metals and precious metals such as gold (Au). Among all the valuable materials in WMPs, Au accounts for over 80% of its total metal price (Park et al., 2017), so recovery of Au from WMPs is needed."

Coal sorting with an x-ray-transmission (XRT) sensor has experienced a lot of development since first described by Jekinson et.al. in 1974. Powerful computers and increasingly sensitive X-ray scintillation counters enabled the development of high-performance sensor-based sorting machines. The first industrial installation of a belt-type XRT-sorting for coal is in operation since 2004. It is upgrading high quality coal from 1% ash to 0.7% ash for cathode production. In comparison to the high quality coal which is treated with a belt-type sorter, the chute type sorter has been successfully optimized for high volume coal treatment of lower quality coals. This project was funded by the German Environmental Fund (Project Nr.244444). In cooperation with the RWTH Aachen University and Isambane Processing, CommodasUltrasort(now Tomra Sorting Solutions) conducted extensive pilot test work under production conditions in 2010 for the destoning of power station coal at Arnot Power Station in South Africa. The experience gained during this pilot test phase led to an optimized, redesigned PRO Secondary XRT Chute sorter which is now in operation at a South African coal mine. This flexible semi-mobile modular destoning plant is treating a size range of -120 mm +30 mm at a throughput of 150 tph. The implementation of this plant not only reduces the ash content, abrasiveness index and sulfur content significantly, but also reduces royalties, water treatment and transport costs.

"The study provides the comparative analysis of the performance of water only cyclones and hydrocyclone for iron ore fines processing at Joda Iron ore processing plant, Tata Steel. Joda iron ore deposits have higher proportion of kaolinite in the finer fractions and are meant to be separated with cyclones. The iron processing flowsheet of Joda comprises of water only cyclone for beneficiation of iron ore fines. Water only cyclones are used for the beneficiation of fines in the iron ore processing industry and have a larger cone angle compared to that of conventional hydrocyclones to enhance the density effect in the separation. They are aimed to achieve better product quality of underflow however; the desired result could not be achieved at the Joda processing plant. The water only cyclones were operating at the corrected cut-size of about 60 micron with an imperfection of 0.40 and water split to underflow was approximately 10%. The overall Fe recovery from the water only cyclones were 60%. Since the quality of fines produced from the water only cyclone couldn’t be improved, an attempt was made to process the fraction in the conventional hydrocyclone to achieve the desired product quality. The trial results indicated better product quality with the Fe recovery of 72% at corrected cut-size of 70 microns and imperfection of around 0.29. In view of above results it was recommended to replace the water only cyclones with hydrocyclones to achieve higher product quality of about 60% Fe content.INTRODUCTION Water only cyclones were installed at wet plant, Joda to process the classifier fines where the cyclone underflow is considered as concentrate and overflow is discarded as slime. Because of the lower capacity of the cyclones 30% of the classifier overflow was bypassed directly to thickener. Apart from this the quality of fines produced from the water only cyclone couldn’t be improved further hence an attempt was made to process the fraction in the conventional hydrocyclone to achieve the desired product quality and quantity. Hydrocyclone was installed at Joda after replacing stub-cyclone and came into operation on 23rd Aug’ 2017.The process variables of water only cyclones and hydrocyclones are tabulated below:"

"Selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite is continuing problem since its selectivity is not perfect and current NaHS process needs closed system flotation plant because of hydrogen sulfide emission on acidic condition. Some alternative additives investigated as chalcopyrite became hydrophilic and molybdenite kept hydrophobic. XPS analysis indicated chalcopyrite became hydrophilic since iron and copper sulphate, hydroxide was covered on the surface whereas molybdenite kept hydrophobic since only molybdenite can be seen. Flotation experiments of chalcopyrite and molybdenite mixture sample indicated excellent separation that 95% of molybdenite can be recovered as froth and 93% of chalcopyrite can be recovered as sink. Flotation experiments with real bulk flotation concentration indicated similar separation result compared with current NaHS additive system. Possible mechanisms and detailed phenomenon were investigated based on the surface analysis and thermodynamic calculation etc. this alternative additive is easy to handle compared with NaHS since it does not emit effluent gas and commercially preferable.INTRODUCTIONMany copper mine often associates molybdenite (MoS2) as trace mineral. It is important to separate molybdenite and copper mineral efficiently since molybdenite is valuable mineral and also contamination of molybdenite into copper concentrate decrease concentrate value. Conventional separation of copper sulfide and molybdenite has been achieved with sulfide bulk flotation followed by selective molybdenite flotation with NaHS addition since NaHS works as a depressant for copper sulfide (Bulatovic, 2010; Ansari and Pawlik, 2007b). However, this current process shows imperfect molybdenite recovery (Liu et al., 2012, Zanin et al., 2009) and depressant such as NaHS needs to be used under specific flotation plant since it might be environmental contaminant (Ansari and Pawlik, 2007a). there are still unknown on the effect of depressant NaHS, but one of the theory is NaHS reductant effect. It is worth to investigate the effect of other reductant as depressant on chalcopyrite. On this research, typical reductant, Na2SO3 are added to utilize for selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite."

At Tata Steel, Coal is washed in gravity and froth flotation circuit at 13-15 mm size and below. Being coal is high in ash (~35%) and difficult washability characteristics (having high (~40 %) NGM at desired ash levels) needs more and timely quality data of ROM for effective optimization and process control. Conventional approach of supplying quality data takes 4-5 hours time. This means during this period, it is assumed that coal is having similar characteristics as of previous set and it is not possible to fine tune during this time which resulted in yield loss. Hence producing clean coal on agreed ash value consistently is a challenging task because of high NGM and variation in input quality. To overcome the problem of collection of representative sample and timely result a new technology was adopted Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) technology which is basically an online analyser using Gamma rays as the source to measure the ash content in coal running on a conveyor which gives real time ash analysis. "Nickel is an important metal with the total global consumption of about 2 million tons per year. It is sourced from both sulfide and laterite ore, but currently laterites are becoming more attractive for nickel production due to the depletion of high grade nickel sulfide ores. Laterites are generally processed by hydro or pyro-metallurgy and therefore, pre-concentration of nickel before such processes is very important. In this paper the effect different physical methods (including flotation) on the pre-concentration of nickel in laterite ores will be discussed. The ore used in this study was a laterite from South East Asia. Nickel was upgraded using different methods such as magnetic separation, flotation and sizing. The effect of ore mineralogy on choosing the best strategy to upgrade nickel will be discussed. The findings of this project will help to unlock a substantial volume of nickel with significant value from laterite ores.INTRODUCTION Nickel is an important metal with the total global consumption of about million tons per year which has grown rapidly during last decades (Mackey, 2011). Nickel is sourced from two different types of ores, sulfide and laterite. The majority (about 70%) of the world’s nickel resources occur as laterite ores which are often complex, and low grade, and therefore expensive to treat using conventional methods (Xu et al., 2013). Today, nickel laterites are more attractive for production of nickel as the amount of high grade nickel sulfide ores has diminished (Janwong, 2012). Therefore more economic processes to recover nickel from these resources should be developed.It should be noted that nickel laterite mineralogy is complex, and nickel often presents as ultrafine inclusions in a number of mineral phases. Because of the low nickel concentration and variable distribution in these phases, effective upgrading by physical separation processes would be challenging. Researchers have tried to improve nickel laterite flotation recovery by using a number of feed preparation techniques. A summary of the nickel grades obtained using flotation and magnetic separation as reported in the literature is presented in Table 1. It can be seen that only minor nickel upgrades have been reported. Quast et al. (2015) have concluded that the complex mineralogy of nickel laterite ores makes it difficult to achieve any significant nickel upgrading by physical techniques, including flotation. They achieved 40% increase in the nickel content (from 1.0% to 1.4%) at a nickel recovery of 43% (Quast et al., 2015). Various attempts in USA, New Caledonia, India and Australia, to upgrade nickel in laterite using magnetic separation have not been successful (Quast et al., 2015). A recent comprehensive review on topics influencing nickel laterite flotation has shown that further investigations in the flotation of laterite ores are undoubtedly warranted (Farrokhpay & Filippov, 2016)."

Consistency of Run-Off-Mine (ROM) quality plays an important role in mineral processing which is not very often talked about. The major impediment is limitation of sampling ROM ore, which makes processing plants to run without any realtime feedback on ore quality that comes in. The process of direct determination of Run-Off-Mine (ROM) ore quality is expensive and time consuming as drawing and preparing representative samples from blasted muckpiles are constrained by large sample size and inherent heterogeneity in terms of size and chemistry. In absence of techniques for direct measurement of quality, monitoring and control of ROM, feed to the processing plant at Joda East Mine, like all other iron ore beneficiation plants worldwide, is largely based on blasthole sampling and subsequent chemical analyses of blastcone chips. While such indirect methods proves to be more accurate for representing whole of a mining block or blasted muckpile (~30-50KT/blast), it is indeed a challenge to ascertain and predict day to day input quality for a part there off. This eventually leads to a gap between predicted and actual ROM quality, resulting in difficulties in process control, in turn, and leading to wide swings in product quality. Hence, it is imperative to bridge the gap between predicted and actual ROM quality by arriving at means, which ensure consistent plant feed grade to deliver consistent output. The paper discusses an efficient and affordable alternative for effective prediction of ROM alumina which has been developed by integrating blasthole quality database in GPS based Truck Dispatch System (GPS-TDS) at Joda East Mine. Initially, GPS-TDS has been installed for optimizing production parameters only, but this development has helped in further utilization of GPS-TDS for real time quality monitoring by improving ROM grade prediction and scheduling from several ore blocks in active mining areas. The Bulgarian deposits of quartz-kaolin raw materials are localized in the NE Bulgaria. For many years, the quartz-kaolin sand separation has been performing by water washing technology. After wet separation the raw material yields two products ? washed kaolin (different grades) and quartz sand (different grades). Research and development program has started to improve the quartz-kaolin sand separation. The program has undertaken an increasing of processing capacity, to decrease the losses in the tailings and to provide production of new quartz sand grades. The kaolin-silica raw materials from Vetovo open mine and the technological tailings from Vetovo processing plant were characterized. It was established that there are a lot of losses of quartz in final tailings. New approach on kaolin-silica raw material separation was tested in laboratory scale. The test work was performed on Derrick Stacksizer screening machines. The results of laboratory experiment show that there are possibilities to increase the quartz sand recovery and to start the production new grade sand. The full-scale pilot test was performed including the following units: two Derrick Stacksizer screening machines equipped with 0.430 mm and 0.150 mm opening Derrick Urethane Panel, respectively; Flat bottom DN 500 Hydrocyclone and DN 100 Hydrocyclon. The pilot test data clearly demonstrate that the Derrick Stacksizer screening machines are suitable for Bulgarian silica-kaolin raw material. Based on the test data a new quartz-kaolin separation technology was developed. The new technology was introduced in Vetovo processing plant increasing processing capacity and decreasing the losses of quartz in final tailings. Additionally the production of silica sand grade PK 0.16 is increased and starts the production a new grade PK 0.10.

Bentonite is an important industrial mineral with very wide application areas. Its unique colloidal, swelling, thickening and adsorption properties make it a useful agent in drilling, metal casting, and iron ore pelletizing, environmental, food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and many more industries. Because of its swelling property, bentonite suspensions can only be prepared at rather low solid coentrations, i.e. 8-10%. In order to process bentonite in slurries with high solid content, it was thought that a non-polar organic solvent, instead of water, can be used. Not only large amounts of bentonite can be dispersed in organic solvents but also the solvents may be regenerated. The bentonite obtained through such a process must either equal or better properties than those of untreated bentonite. In this study, the effect of organic solvents such as acetone, methyl-ethyl ketone and n-haxane on the main properties of bentonite, such as water adsorption and rheology, was investigated. It was found that bentonite can be dispersed in the mentioned organics in large quantities with no loss of quality. Keywords: bentonite, montmorillonite, water adsorption, industrial minerals

"The advent of digital revolution has now enabled us with numerous tools that could be leveraged to transform our operational data into actionable insights. Key opportunities with digitization include better visualization, transparency, integrated planning and execution for value-chain optimization, that results in smarter production, intelligent response to changes in ore, process and equipment conditions, reduce energy and waste along with prevention of asset breakdown, safety and environmental issues. It is important to realize that these digital tools have limited value, from a metallurgical operational context, if we cannot bring-in the appropriate domain expertise along with getting the basics right. The focus within Barrick is to ensure that there is adequate depth of different disciplines built into our platforms along with breadth to integrate other disciplines such as geology and mining for an effective Mine-to-Mill integration. A gold recovery improvement strategy based on optimal Gaudin size distribution, leaching performance monitoring and guidance via feed grade maps is discussed. Simultaneous identification of process and equipment constraints enable finding the best overall conditions for Gold recovery. This paper discusses the methodology, findings, and challenges in the ongoing journey of implementing a Metallurgy Analytics platform that evolves from being retrospectively descriptive to anticipatively prescriptive.INTRODUCTION The last few decades have seen some remarkable advancement in information technology, but recently various digital technologies have resulted in several synergies to deliver innovation in diverse applications. The ball level and pulp load play a key role in the operation of industrial scale ball mills. These two operating variables have a significant influence on the performance of the ball mill and any attempts to optimize these devices require manipulating either one or both of these variables. There are several models that can be employed to perform simulations to optimize the performance of industrial ball mills. However, most of these models require ball load and pulp load measurements as inputs to calibrate the model. The changes suggested by the simulator also provide operating regimes that involve moving either the ball level or pulp load and sometimes both of these variables. A ball mill model coded in JKSimMet was used in conjunction with the Sensomag to optimize the secondary ball mill at Waterval concentrator in South Africa. The results show that the perfect mixing ball mill model can be used in conjunction with the Sensomag to optimize the performance of the secondary ball mill.

The continent has large, and relatively unexplored mineral deposits, and recent high economic growth rates have meaningfully improved the political, economic, and infrastructural environments. However, these opportunities are accompanied by significant risks, including resource nationalism, uncertain regulation, corruption, and continuing political instability (up to and including war). Forward-looking companies actively manage these risks by creating a sense of shared purpose with the countries and communities that own the resources, using tools such as stakeholder analysis, local narratives, scenario planning, and constituency engagement. They also measure socio-economic impact to insure the creation and demonstration of shared value.

"This research was aimed to explain the reasons of low floatability of tennantite from refractory pyrite ores of non-ferrous metals and to create a reagent regime for selective increasing a recovery of copper sulfide minerals from arsenic-containing copper pyrite ore. ?opper-zinc ore of the Uzelga deposit has 89% of pyrite, some part as melnikovite; copper is assayed as 3.58% of tennantite and 0.25% of chalcopyrite; there is 2.19% sphalerite. Sulfide minerals are very finely disseminated. Tennantite is genetically related to primary copper sulfides. Graphene was identified on the surface of tennantite by a transmission electron microscopy (TEM) method. The recovery of tennantite was rose up by using the collector M-TF. M-TF is the mixture of diisobutylditiophosphate (DTF) and O-isopropyl-N-methyl (ethyl) (TC) in the certain ratio. M-TF change up a kinetic of copper sulfide flotation in a slightly alkaline medium, but pyrite has slowly floatability at this moment. A depressing effect of thiosulfate ions in a liquid phase of pulp flotation tennantite from pyrite ore has been established. A copper recovery up 14.2% (from 67.7 to 82.0%) into a copper concentrate level off copper grade of 18.65% (butkx) and 18.68% (M-TF) has been increased by the new technology with M-TF compared to a standard technology with butkx. A main copper recovery up to 50 % in an inter-cycle copper concentrate assaying 19-21% Cu in case of using M-TF was gotten. A zinc concentrate with recovery of 50% and a zinc assay of 41.76% by a standard flow sheet with butyl xanthate was obtained. A zinc recovery of 70.3% with a zinc grade of 44.17% by the M-TF technology was achieved.INTRODUCTION The pyrite copper-zinc ores of the Urals region are considered refractory. The distinctive features of these ores include a high content of pyrite (90-95%), the presence of arsenopyrite and arsenical pyrite, and the simultaneous presence of chalcopyrite, bornite, tennantite with the predominance of the latter (Andreasen et al.,2008;.Dobrotsvetov, 2009; Chanturiya et al. 2016). The flotation properties of tennantite differ from those of chalcopyrite (Xumeng Chen, Yongjun Peng, Dee Bradshaw. 2014), which is the reason why a comprehensive study was under taken of the flotation activity of tennantite and a process for its recovery was developed. The proposed agent treatment and flotation process make it possible to produce salable copper and zinc concentrates."

"Spiral concentrators offer a cost effective way to separate valuable minerals from gangue by displacing lighter materials to the outside, and heavier materials to the inside of the spiral. The separation can be seen as visible concentrate bands and splitters are set at the bottom of the spiral to effectively split the ore into various densities. As there are typically many spirals in a concentrator plant, it becomes ineffective to continually adjust the splitter positions manually. Vermaak et al. (2008) proposed to use image recognition to detect the concentrate bands, thereafter, creating a model predicting the positions under certain input conditions. This model could then be used for optimisation and/or control of splitter position or band position. In contrast an online concentrate band detection system would provide real time concentrate band positions without losing accuracy due to model generalisation. These systems are usually expensive and time consuming to develop, due to a lot of centralised features required (image capturing, image processing and/or feedback to a controller). This study took advantage of the recently developed Raspberry Pi minicomputer to perform rapid prototyping of an online image processing sensor. The Raspberry Pi, and accompanying camera module, offers a portable Linux environment which can natively run the required image processing algorithms. Furthermore, extensive use of OpenCV was made to reduce development time, by relying on existing and proven algorithms to detect the concentrate bands. The Raspberry Pi also incorporates generic input/output ports which can be used in future work to provide the signal to a controller. In conclusion, the Raspberry Pi was successfully used to perform real time concentrate band position detection on a spiral concentrator. This solution is more general than an experimentally identified input-output model and may be used for control or optimisation studies in a wide array of spiral concentrators."

Ammonia and Amonium salts have been recognized as effective leaching agents in hydrometallurgical processes due to low toxicity and cost, easy recovery and high selective recovery of metals. New research findings of considerable advantages of leaching by these agents and elimination of problems associated with acid leaching has resulted in a new approach in the world to this method. The investigations in this field indicate more frequent use of this method for extracting copper from ore and concentrate relative to other basic metals. In this paper, we have attempted to describe the basis and different ammonia leaching methods and present the major research activities in this field for copper. We have also presented the latest findings and related novel processes. Comparative assessment of advantages and disadvantages of this method relative to acid leaching method, kinetic study of copper ammonia leaching and evaluation of Eh-pH diagrams in a system containing water and ammonia are other parts of our study. Finally, by describing the studies on copper extraction from the resulting pregnant solutions, the applicable extraction agents have been reviewed.
