Extensive literature exists on the motion of single bubbles and the behaviour of swarms of bubbles. This contribution describes work to track and reveal the motion of individual bubbles in a swarm. The technique is based on high speed cinematography and tracking of multiple moving objects. Image processing algorithms were implemented in Matlab to isolate and measure geometric proper-ties of the bubbles in image sequences recorded at 2 ms interval; and these properties were compiled into a data structure. To track a bubble, the geometric properties and a matching criterion were applied on consecutive pictures to identify the bubble. The bubble trajectory was reconstructed from the data structure for the matched objects. The methodology is briefly described. The new technique was tested for bubbles produced at slot-type spargers (i.e., approximately 2-D swarms) in the presence of two frother types ('strong' and 'weak'). Two observations are discussed: a) that bubble motion in a swarm describes a velocity-size relationship dictated by the dominant bubble size class; and b) that surfactant type influences bubble rise velocity for bubbles in the range 0.1 mm to 4 mm. The latter suggests surface viscosity rather than surface immobilization determines bubble rise velocity.

Bentonite is an excellent sealant mineral material because of its desirable swelling and self-healing characteristics, low permeability, sorptive qualities, and longevity in nature. A new type of water-swelling building sealant made from bentonite was studied in this paper. The building sealant is prepared by Na-base bentonite, vaseline and paraffin wax under different mass fraction of bentonite (which is 60%,65%,70% respectively). Under unrestricted state, some properties of samples were investigated. The volume expansion ratio at 24 h is 211%, 222%, 256% , and permeability coefficient is 2.86×10-8 cm/s, 4.15×10-8 cm/s and 4.78×10-8 cm/s respectively; low temperature flexibility of the sample (bentonite quality is 65%, 70% respectively) is good, and it does not flow heated for 2 h under 80?. The results of XRD and SEM indicate that bentonite is coated preferably by vaseline, and the spacing of layers of bentonite do not changed. The sample can keep full water swelling ability, and has good molding process. The test results prove that the properties of samples may reach the standard of building sealant.

In the frame of Bioshale FP6 project, the bioprocessing of a polymetallic and polymineral concentrate produced in an industrial operation in Lubin, Poland, was assessed. Following successful batch culture tests, processing in continuous conditions was tested to determine the main specifications for the application of the stirred-tank technology to this sulphide concentrate from black shale ores. The experimental work was carried out in a laboratory-scale unit consisting of 3 stirred tanks (50L or 20L) using an acidophilic and moderate thermophilic bacterial population. Different configurations of the unit and key operating parameters were tested (nutrient medium composition, solids concentration, rates of agitation and aeration). Scientific and technical approaches, such as bacterial community structure and mineralogical analysis were implemented in order to better understand the chemical and biochemical reactions occurring in the system. Using the data produced during the continuous operation, downstream processing assessment for both copper and silver recovery was also carried out. The best copper recovery obtained in the continuous operation was 92% and a hot brine leaching of the bioleach residue (PLINT process) allowed to recover 92% of the silver. A preliminary tech-no-economic evaluation of Lubin concentrate bioprocessing including bioleaching, copper and silver recoveries demonstrated the potential economic feasibility. Recovery of silver plays an important role in the economy of the process. This study presents promising values to further investigate this bioprocessing option.

The flotation behavior of kaolinite and diaspore using N, N-diethyl dodecyl amine (DEN12) and N, N-dimethyl dodecyl amine (DRN12) as collector have been investigated through flotation experiments. The mechanism of adsorption of two tertiary amine collectors on surface of kaolinite and diaspore were investigated by FTIR spectral, Zeta potentials measurements and calculation of molecular orbital energy. It has been found that DEN12 and DRN12 have stronger collecting power to kaolinite and weaker collecting abilityto diaspore than DDA. Kaolinite and diaspore in bauxite ores can be separated by using DEN12 and DRN12 as collectors at pulp pH below 8 and 6, respectively. The results of zeta potentials and calculation of molecular orbital energy indicated that the adsorption strength on kaolinite surface is in the order DEN12>DRN12>DDA and the adsorption strength on diaspore surface is in the order DDA>DEN12>DRN12. FTIR spectral analysis and Zeta potentials approve that the action between kaolinite and tertiary amine collector is strong electrostatic adsorption and that of diaspore is weak electrostatic adsorption in the range of pH 5~6.

According to XRD, DTA and SEM detections, the hydration products of blast furnace slag (BFS) based cementing material SL, SLG. were studied in different age periods. The XRD analysis of cementing material SL hydration products showed that the composition of hydration products were mainly amorphous substances, few crystalline substances. Characteristic peak of ettringite hadn?t been found in the spectral line of DTA, and it hadn?t been found in the figures of SEM, either, which was accordant with the conclusion that the cementing performance of SL mainly coming from gel of hydrated calcium silicate (CSH) and hydrated calcium aluminate. However, the main hydration products of SLG are Aft, CSH, and AFm, which are similar to Portland cement. All results suggest that BFS is a suitable base material for cementation. "Environmental concerns necessitate the recycling of process water within mining operations. Given that recycled water is chemically different from fresh water, and collectors are added such that they adsorb at the liquid-particle interface, changes in the aqueous phase are expected to affect collector adsorption. A Finnish nickel-copper ore was floated in synthetic plant waters of varying ionic strengths and plant waters obtained at Boliden Kevitsa Mine, with aerophine and sodium isopropyl xanthate as collectors. Of the tested waters, the copper thickener overflow was the least conducive to xanthate adsorption and valuable mineral recovery. The nickel thickener overflow, standard process water, and raw water were the most conducive to xanthate adsorption. For the raw water and nickel thickener overflow, increased adsorption correlated with increased valuable mineral recovery. Further, recycling xanthate retained in water affected the selectivity of the collector and hence the concentrate grades.INTRODUCTIONFlotation is a separation process that exploits the differences in the surface properties of the particles being separated. The efficiency of separation is dependent on the degree of hydrophobicity achieved by the particles meant to be floated, which are, in most cases, valuable minerals. The hydrophobicity is in turn dependent on the adsorption of the chosen collector onto the surfaces of the floated particles (Fuerstenau, 1984; Taggart and Hassialis, 1946). Empirical findings suggest that species dissolved in solution strongly influence collector adsorption and overall flotation response (Fuerstenau and Chander, 1986). Due to environmental concerns, it is becoming more pertinent for mining plants to recycle process water and hence limit the usage of potable water. There is an interest to ensure minimal discharge of plant water into the environment, as this water is typically polluted with process reagents that may render it toxic (Levay et al., 2001)."

In this study, approximately 3 tons of coal sample taken from thickener entrance was prepared by mineral processing techniques and cleaned by gravity methods. The samples were classified to 5 size fractions by wet screening. The size fractions of +1mm and -1 +0.500 mm were chosen for direct consumption or cleaning by spirals. The studies by Multi Gravity Separator (MGS) were carried out with the -0.500 +0.280 mm and -0.280 +0.020 mm size fractions where the -0.020 mm fraction does not used in the experiments. The clean coal fractions of +1 mm and -1 +0.500 mm obtained by classification were subjected to lower calorific value (LCV), ash and total sulphur analyses. The results were 4168-4946 kcal/kg (on dry basis), 31.01-38.54 % ash and 4-4.27 % total sulphur content respectively. The results of the clean coal concentrated by MGS experiments in -0.500 +0.280 mm fraction was found 5918 kcal/kg LCV, 19.82 % ash content and 80.47 % combustible recovery. The results for the -0.280 +0.020mm fraction were 6004 kcal/kg LCV, 19.19 % ash content, 80.47 % combustible recovery respectively. With reference to the above experimental results, pre-economic evaluation studies were completed and decided to construct an additional unit to the plant. Capacity of the constructed unit is 75.000 t/y which corresponds $ 2.600.000 income in a year. General Directorate of Turkish Coal Enterprises concluded to apply this project to the other coal washing plants in the country due to the successful results of this study and laboratory studies has been going on by MTA currently. The Mount Isa copper concentrator started operation in 1973. Its secondary grinding circuit consisted of two 5 meters diameter ball mills in closed circuit with 505 mm cyclones. At the design throughput of 800 t/h, the 80% passing size of the circuit product (P80) was about 140 µm. The then Mount Isa Mines Limited (?MIM?) installed two autogenous grinding (?AG?) mills in 1991 to replace two stages of crushing, a rod milling stage and one primary ball milling stage. One of the AG mills was later converted to semi-autogenous grinding (?SAG?) operation by the addition of a steel grinding medium to achieve the designed plant throughput of 800 t/h. The cyclone over-flow P80of the secondary ball mill circuit was reduced to 120 µm by the increased operating power in the AG/SAG mill circuits. The two secondary balls mills had a grinding power of 5.2 MW. A mineralogical study of the milled products indicated that half of this grinding power was sufficient for adequate chalcopyrite liberation. Eliminating one of the secondary ball mills could reduce energy and operating costs by more than A$2 million dollars per year. An optimisation project team was established to achieve the predicted power saving. Grinding circuit simulations were conducted for different circuit configurations. Ball mill parameters such as ball size, ball charge and feed slurry density were optimised. Cyclone body diameter, spigot and vortex finder sizes, and cyclone types were tested. The secondary ball mill circuit was redesigned and several proposed circuits were run as trial production campaigns to determine their operability and efficiency. The plant trials confirmed that one of the secondary ball mills could be decommissioned. Significant cost savings were achieved as a result. The success of the project demonstrates optimising grinding circuits can not only deliver the plant performance, but also a much lower unit operating cost through energy and maintenance savings.

"The traditional lignin separation process from the precipitated suspension creates severe filtration problems by plugging of the filter medium due to the small particle size (20 to 60 µm) of the suspended lignins. The plugging causes further problems in the successive processing of the filter cake. A new lignin separation process has been developed at the Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus as a part of the Research and Development and Demonstration (R & D & D) project "LignoBioFuel". The new developed process separates lignin in the form of granules with diameters ranging from 100 µm to 300 µm. The restrainment of the granule’s size in their successive treatments is expected to result in higher filtration efficiencies and reduction in plugging of filter mediums. To evaluate the filtration efficiency, the filtration resistance of the produced granules as well as the conventional suspensions has been investigated. The results show that there is a 60 to 80 % filtration efficiency increase and around 60 % reduction in plugging of filter mediums with the lignin granules in comparison to the conventional suspensions. Furthermore the successive processing of lignin granules was easier due to their porous structures removing the impurities such as adherent acids and salts. The purity of the separated lignin was measured with their sulphur (reduced from 7 % to 2.7 %) and ash (reduced from 46 % to 0.5 %) contents. The newly developed process has displayed better results in comparison to that of the conventional process. The new process displays high potentials in optimizing and improving the present state of the art treatments and is promising several ecological, economical and environmental improvements."

The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the relationship between different milling procedures, viz. a ball mill and an IsaMill respectively, and the flotation performance of the different mill products. Two ores were used, viz. a base metal sulphide (BMS) and a platinum group mineral (PGM) UG2 ore. Flotation was used as a diagnostic to investigate whether the different milling procedures may have different effects of the floatability of the particles. The present study is part of a research programme investigating this question using a wide range of comminutiondevices and procedures. Similar particle size fractions from the different milling procedures were used in the flotation tests. The particles were characterized in terms of particle size distribution, morphology (using scanning electron microscopy and image analysis software) and rheology tests. The results have shown that in general when comparing similar feeds to flotation in terms of equivalent particle size distributions as indicated by the d80 value, the ball mill generally yielded better recoveries and grades in the case of the BMS and lower chromite recoveries in the case of the UG2 ore compared to the IsaMill. No significant differences were observed in the morphological or rheological characteristics of the particles subjected to the different milling procedures. Although the results appear to indicate that IsaMilling is less advantageous than ball milling in terms of the flotation performance for the two ores studied it should be emphasized that these results do not take into account the relative advantage which IsaMilling has over ball milling in terms of direct and indirect energy consumption and GHG emissions nor, most importantly, does it consider the platinum group element recoveries in the case of the UG2 which may have increased significantly as a result of the finer grind which the IsaMill produces after 4 passes compared to the ball mill after 64 min. Such results which will be reported is due course may show that the greater liberation expected after IsaMilling of the PGMs outweighs any disadvantages indicated in this study.

The flotation of pyrite which be pretreated by electrochemical ways under external controlled voltages in different pH is explored. The floatability of pyrite is increased indistinctively after being pretreated in acidic and xanthate environment; Whereas, it is increased obviously between 400~800 millivolt in alkaline and xanthate condition. The reason for higher recovery of pyrite is that oxida-tion reaction, which results in S0 and S02, takes place on its surface, and that ethyl xanthate is oxi-dized into dixanthogen. In the meantime, the kinetics and mechanism is also studied.

"The paper presents a analysis of the history and the trends of development of flotation apparatus. The laws of their evolution are stated and the place and role of column flotation are indicated. It is demonstrate development and different design of column apparatus. The major parameters of column cell such as diameter and height are discussed. Options are proposed on optimization of hydrodynamic characteristics of columns with large-capacity cells. High efficiency of columns with cell height of 4-6 m is shown on examples of coal preparation. A new generation of multi sectional column cells has been developed. In the cells are zones with different aerohydrodynamic parameters: combined in the machine are co-and counter- counter flows of phases. The transition from single-chamber column to multi-sectional apparatus makes it possible to create favourable hydrodynamic and aeration regimes in each section of the column dependent on the pattern of material distribution by floatability. Efficiency of application different designs column apparatus uses shown on the example of enrichment of various non-ferrous metals ores and coal. The principles of mathematical simulation of the flotation process are developed. A scaling-up procedure for column cells was based on flotation macro- and micro- dynamics simulation.INTRODUCTIONColumn flotation is considered to be one of the most significant achievement in the field of mineral processing in the end of last century. We cannot but agree with this statement but would like to understand what underlies this success. History of the flotation column can not be considered in isolation from the development of flotation apparatus on the whole. It can be argued that the first attempt to switch from oil flotation to the use of bubbles during flotation was performed Bessel brothers in 1877 (Berlin patent 42 class 22, July 2) and in 1886 (Berlin patent 39,369 May 12). According to these patents, the crushed ore was mixed with oils , hydrocarbons and water. Then the pulp received in this way was heated up to boiling . Air bubbles and steam formed during boiling facilitate the flotation of ore particles coated with oil (first patent) or bubbles been generated by the reaction of lime with acid (second patent). The evolution in the design of the flotation apparatus incorporates the following key stages. Further development is connected with the Francis Elmore’s idea to use gas bubbles received at water electrolysis (UK, 13578; 1904). This method was not introduced then, but much later, in our time and on the essentially new technical basis it found a use for sewage treatment (electroflotation). Gas bubbling under vacuum patented also by Elmore (UK, 17816; 1904) obtained a practical use. It should be noted that the method did not lose its importance till now. The design of the camera has been surely optimized (Glembotskii etal, 1963). A year later A. Macquisten (UK, 26712) developed pressure (compression) flotation. Thus, the H.Sulman, H.Picard, D. Bell’s (US, 853120, May 29, 1905) basic patent and the adjoining T. Goover’s patent 1910 (US, 953746) formed the basis of the first and most important element of modern flotation: flotation with air bubbles sucked in from the environment. In 1914, J.Callow received a patent for on an apparatus where air was sparged through the porous false bottom of the cell ( US, 1104755). Woolen fabric folded four times was fixed on a perforated metal frame to be used for air sparging (Gaudin, 1932). The following year Durrel created the prototype of the injection (ejector) apparatus. The jet aerator made it possible to significantly reduce the size of the bubbles, in comparison with the filter cloth. An apparatus with slurry pre-aeration in an airlift prior to feeding into separation cell was developed Wagner in 1917 (US, 1235083). And finally, the first column apparatus with a counter-current of slurry and air was developed by M. Towne and S. Flynn in 1919(US, 1,295,817). ("

"The processing of copper gold ores is one of the major issues of gold-mining industry in the beginning of 21st century. In this case, application of ammoniacal cyanidation process for this type of mineral raw materials deserves special attention. Irgiredmet Institute has carried out a wide range of studies on ammoniacal cyanidation process and evaluated the possible commercial use of this process for Russian operating plants. Copper gold-bearing ore from a current Russian deposit was studied. The content of gold and copper in the ore is 9.4 g/t and 0.4%, respectively. Based on the results of preliminary test work, a flow sheet was developed. It included gravity concentration followed by cyanidation of the gravity tailings using CIP. The flow sheet provides sufficient total gold recovery (91.5%). However, this technology has disadvantages, such as high specific consumption of reagents: 4.5 kg/t NaCN and 13.5 kg/t Ca(OCl)2 the ore and the increased gold grade in the liquid phase of the tails slurry (0.2 g/t). In order to improve cyanidation process parameters, test work on gravity tails processing using ammoniacal cyanidation was carried out. After the test work was completed, ammoniacal cyanidation flow sheet for copper gold-bearing ores was developed. Leaching conditions were optimized using recycled process solutions. Recommendations on gold recovery from the solutions and tails detoxification are given. The proposed flow sheet provides 91.5% gold recovery. In this case, compared to the conventional option, the consumption of cyanide decreases by 3-4 times.INTRODUCTION The technology of precious metals recovery from gold-bearing ores is based on cyanidation. This accounts for up to 90% gold recovery and the significant portion of silver (Lodeischikov, 1999). However, there exists the category of so called refractory ores. They are not amenable to direct cyanidation (without using additional expensive processes), or they are characterized by low indices of metals recovery and high consumption of reagents. The latter also include copper gold ores. Their deposits can be found extensively both worldwide and in Russian Federation. A feature of these ores is that they contain not only gold but also copper. It is considered not only as a valuable component but also as a harmful mineral impurity that hinders gold cyanidation, gold precipitation from the solutions by cementation onto zinc dust and adsorption onto activated carbon (CIL, CIP-processes), detoxification of cyanide bearing effluents."

Microorganisms in AMD (Acid Mine Drainage) were enriched in 9K culture medium. The enrichment was applied to leach copper pyrite after the microbial community structure and metabolism was stable. Before and after bioleaching, the microbial DNA was extracted and applied to RFLP (restricted fragment length polymorphism) analysis to demonstrate the relationship between the leaching efficiency and the change of microbial community. Atomic absorption spectrometry results showed that when concentration of the pulp was 10% and pH were 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5, the leaching rate were 56%, 57% and 34% on the 18th day respectively. These results indicated that the rise of pH resulted in the decrease of leaching rate. In lower pH condition, the growth of microbe was faster: when pH was 1.5, the microbial cell number reached to 1.4×107cells/mL on the 9th day; while pH was 2.5, the microbial cell number decreased to 4×106cells/mL. The analysis of microbial community structure showed that Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans were dominant species before bioleaching (account for 43% and 32% respectively). And after bioleaching, these two species were still dominant when the initial bioleaching pH were1.5 and 2.0. While the initial bioleaching pH was 2.5, the proportion of these two species decreased. These results demonstrated that the initial bioleaching pH would affect the microbial community structure in bioleaching system at room temperature, and this affect could lead to different copper pyrites bioleaching efficiency.

A novel ilmenite collector, tert-butyl benzoic hydroxamic acid (TBHA), was investigated in this paper. The flotation performance and adsorption mechanism of TBHA to ilmenite were evaluated through pure mineral flotation tests, ?-potential measurement and IR spectrum analysis. The experiment results indicated that TBHA exhibited strong collecting capability to ilmenite under pH 6.0-8.5. At pH 7.0-10.0, TBHA existed in the form of anionic species in aqueous solution, and the ?-potential measurement results showed the surface of ilmenite maintained negative and more negative after the adsorption TBHA on it, which inferred that TBHA might adsorb on the surface of ilmenite through chemical interaction. The IR spectrum analysis further confirmed the chemical interaction between TBHA and ilmenite surface. According to the unique properties and many applications of nano silver powder, it was prepared from acid leaching tail solution. The low value residual gold and silver ions were occurred with fellow heavy metals as pollutants (Fe2+, Cu 2+and Zn2+) in acid leaching tail solution in Mouteh gold mine in Iran. Preparation of nano silver particles was achieved in two steps: first, by addition of ammonia as separation step and second by using different reagents as precipitation and extraction steps. Different controlled parameters were including pH, residence time and temperature, mixing time, and reducing reagents to metals molar ratio. Acid leaching process was carried out with sulphuric and nitric acid via suitable reductants. In order to remove copper, zinc, and silver ions from solution, all of the conditions were controlled. The optimum conditions for preparation of nano silver powder with less than 90 nm were pH 10.5, hydrazine/methanol to silver molar ratio of 3 to 4, and reduction time of 5 min in 45 °C. The results were evaluated via SEM, A.A and UV- Vis spectroscopy analytical methods.

Dense medium cyclones have been in use for washing coarse and small coals for more than 50 years. There have been modifications in its design and today these units have become indispensable for washing of Indian coals possessing difficult washing characteristics. About 53 percent of the Indian coals (coking and non-coking) are being washed in jigs, about 38 per cent are washed in dense medium cyclones while the remaining 9 per cent is treated in other units like Barrel Washers, Heavy Media Baths and Drum Separators etc. The present paper deals with the attempts made for design of industrial Dense Medium Cyclones for enhanced coal recovery. Two industrial units of 500 mm diameter and 650 mm diameter were designed with their washing capacities being 200 m3/hr and 350 m3/hr, respectively. The results of the pilot tests conducted on 500 mm cyclone treating very high Near Gravity Material coals crushed to -3.0+0.5 mm gave an ash reduction of up to 19.5 percent with the new design i.e., from a feed ash of 34.5 percent to 15.06 percent in clean coal with an appreciable yield of 45 percent in one stage.

In mining and mineral processing, ammonium and nitrate from residues of explosives and other sources are discharged to the aquatic environment. Nitrogenous compounds in mine water can adversely affect the aquatic environment. The aim of this work was to study the biological removal of nitrate from cold inorganic mine water at the pilot-scale in an operating underground mine. Seven-months pilot testing on biological removal of nitrate from inorganic mine water was successfully performed in denitrifying fixed-bed biofilm reactors. The feed to denitrification bioreactors contained 11 mg NO3--N/L. Methanol was added as an external carbon source to the denitrifying bio-reactor since the inorganic mine water contained only traces of organic compounds (<CODCr (50 mgO2/L). Nitrate removal reached 75 g NO3--N/m3/d with removal efficiencies above 95% at temperature below 4°C. Thus, removal of explosives-residues from cold inorganic mine water was shown in pilot-scale biofilm reactors.

The secondary action reagents (SAR) are organic diphilic compounds capable of altering ac-id-base and donor-acceptor properties of the main collector and consequently the energy of collector interaction with the mineral?s surface, its hardness and fixation forms ratio through associates formation via the hydrogen bonds. When the basic flotation conditions are being established, convergence of the electronic structure of the collector and the mineral being extracted due to minerals surface preconditioning with modifiers and the most efficient collector choice. At the next stage of the selective flotation condition establishment SAR is selected for a more precise adjustment of the energy of the collector fixation on the mineral. Such an approach makes it possible to solve efficiently various issues of flotation separation of non-sulfide minerals. In particular neutral organic substances containing groupings C==O, S==O, P==O (ethers of carboxylic and phosphonic acids, amides of carboxylic, phosphonic and sulfonic acids) were proposed as SAR. In order to enhance the flotation process selectivity in the conditions of water recycling including the selectivity of carboxylic collectors especially in the environment of high hardness water flotation, it was proposed to use SAR with long hydrocarbonic radical and groups with enhanced electronic density within the molecule: N-methylolamides of alkylphosphoric acids and ethers of methylphosphonic acid. Introduction of small amounts of these compounds alongside with the main fatty-acid collector enhance the performance of fatty-acid flotation of fluorite, beryl, columbite etc., lowers the collector consumption, and completely compensates the depressive effect of recycled water. Di-2-ethylhexyl ether of methylphosphonic acid?CH3P(O)(OC8H17-i)2 (hexarane) was more thoroughly researched as such an agent within fatty-acid flotation process. Following aspects of the flotation system were studied: interaction of oleic acid and sodium oleate with hexarane in the liquid phase (infrared spectroscopy); heat emission under the interaction of hexarane-oleic acid ? sodium oleate ? calcium salts (isoperiboric diathermic colorimeter); colloid-disperse state of the collector influenced by hexarane (nephelometric analysis); dynamics of the mineral surface hydration due to the agents (method of indicator negative adsorption); hexarane effect upon the interaction of fat-ty-acid collector with calcium salts (complexometric method with Trilon-B); floatability of pure minerals (quartz, microcline, beryl, columbite) in Hallimond tube; hexarane effect upon oleic acid (sodium oleate) adsorption (nephelometric method for identification of the residual content of oleic acid and its forms within the solution). Upon the research it can be definitely concluded that the adjusting effect of such compounds as hexarane within the non-sulfide minerals flotation process is mainly determined by their interaction with the main collector both within the pulp and at the mineral surface with associates formation due to the hydrogen bond. The consequence is calcium oleates destruction with the release of the most active collector under flotation in hard water environment which determines the efficiency of hexarane joint application with fatty-acid collector under recycled water supply. Therefore the introduction of the class of secondary action reagents is supported by their operation mechanisms and flotation process function and determines a new approach to the development of efficient conditions of selective flotation separation of non-sulfide minerals.

A new porous apatite product was prepared using phosphorite from Yichang China by a tem-plate-directed method in self-made reaction equipment under constant temperature and pressure. The product was characterized by XRD, FT-IR and SEM. The results showed that the product was a kind of micrometer porous sphere three-dimensionally structured by apatite nanoflakes, that the average thickness of nanoflakes was about 50 nm, that the average pore size was about 1.2 µm and that the particle average size was about 20 µm. Great amounts of Ca2+channel, high special surface area and regular spherical shape show the potential promising applications of this special porous apatite product in the fields of catalyst, medication, chemical engineering and environment engineering
