"Brunswick Mining and Smelting commenced production at the No. 12orebody, a lead/zinc/copper/silver deposit, situated some seventeen miles southwest of Bathurst, New Brunswick, in 1964 at 4100 tonnes per day. Today it operates at 10500 tonnes per day.Brunswick has utilized underground incentives since commencement of operations. Early incentive systems were “off the wall"" based on those in effect at other properties then manipulated to fit, often hack calculated from actual performances to tm1ve at the desired result. If subsequent payouts were considered too high the rates were simply reduced, often retroactively. A large amount of this was' subjective and depended to a large extent on whoever was handling the bonus, in conjunction with senior mine department staff.In 1971, it was' decided that a more scientific approach was needed, particularly with the introduction of the new cut-and-fill mining. After some research, a system based on Work Study was selected. Another major mining company employing such a system loaned one of their experienced employees to train some Brunswick personnel in the art of Work Study and conversion of data to incentive rates, and in 1972, the first such developed incentive rate was-introduced.Along the way, borrowing from others where necessary, a set of Brunswick principles and parameters were developed. While refined to some extent, these remain basically the same today.Improvements in methods and equipment have resulted in improved performance and reduced costs. The use of underground incentives has played an important role in this. A/though individual bonus earnings have steadily increased, bonus cost per tonne has remained nearly constant - in real dollars, it has regularly decreased. These are two of the main parameters of a successful system."

"A comprehensive software package has been developed at the Western Research Centre to meet many of the coal preparation requirements in the Canadian coal industry. This package performs three main functions: (1) data handling and manipulation; (2) data analysis, including the generation of washability data, performance evaluation and prediction, density and size modelling, evaluation of density and size partition characteristics, and attrition curves; and (3) graphics output.The software described in this paper is potentially a valuable tool for coal preparation plant engineers and operators for evaluating process performance and adjusting plant density separator cutpoints. Moreover, the analytical laboratory technician could find this package very useful in manipulating and presenting laboratory results."

A 2-hectare uranium tailings area has been reclaimed. The exposed tailings of 1.4 hectares were capped with glacial till and vegetated with grasses and legumes. The water running through the tailings was diverted around the tailings in a line ditch and treated with sodium hydroxide and barium chloride. Difficulties occurred in placing the till capping because of the low bearing strength and the uneven surface of the tailings. This led to varying thicknesses of till and the need for manual labour in some areas. Total reclamation costs were $32,200, with vegetation establishment costs at $13,700 per hectare. This report provides a record of work for use in assessing the long-term suitability of these treatments.

"In Canada and other countries, legislation dealing with accurate factual disclosure for mining projects is being expanded to include more metallurgical design information. Grinding characteristics, metallurgical recovery of contained metal and environmental hazards associated with tailings disposal will be part of the Canadian package. This paper will examine only that portion of the plant design standard practice that relates to grinding – in SAG mills and ball mills that grind ore from as received crushed material to final ground product that is fed to downstream plant recovery processes. Since grinding plants represent a significant portion of the overall concentrator cost, accountability in grinding design should no longer be left to chance, opinion, or hidden proprietary information. This is the 21st century. It is reasonable to expect that a factual basis will be needed so that a Qualified Person (QP) reviewing the grinding mill design can understand it. That will also involve how many and what quality of samples are taken to define the characteristics of the deposit, the accuracy of the tests used to measure ore hardness and the method by which the dimensions and power of the mills are determined. If these criteria are not met, the QP may have no choice but to call attention to the lack of convincing information regarding the grinding mill design for the project. At the same time clients are expected to demand getting the correct design information at a cheaper price, results in a more timely way, and accurate design to the point where the risk of tonnage shortfalls are reduced or eliminated.Tables will be presented to show how this can be done to current standards using existing technologies. At the same time it is acknowledged that current standards are ill-defined and that to achieve consensus among those involved in SAG mill design work, it may require that a consortium funded project be set up to establish what tests and methods for grinding design are suitable to meet the new standards for metallurgical disclosure. By running parallel design methods on several major projects over a period of 5 years, the process of how to design grinding circuits will be better understood because the projects will start at the design stage, include procurement of the mills and will end with a benchmark test on the plant.Selecting the samples and the best schedule for doing test work on core samples submitted and mill design, will be discussed in this paper. The issue of completing the grinding design in time for early procurement decisions is on the critical path for most major projects. Discussions between mining engineers, geologists and process engineers are needed early in the development cycle, at the scoping study level (SS), preliminary engineering assessment (PEA), prefeasibility study (PFS), and at the feasibility study stage (FS), to ensure that proper planning for design sample selection is done. Using adequate sampling and testing methods in a timely way allows early procurement of the grinding mills and minimizes project risk."

The Captain North Extension deposit consists of five sulfide lenses hosted in cherty and chloritic metasediment that is bounded by quartz-eye rhyolite and laminated rhyolite. Lens 2 consists of sphalerite and galena with silver-rich tetrahedrite in chert. Lens 3 contains massive pyrite, with chalcopyrite and minor gold, gradational to minor pyrite in a chloritic metasediment. The other lenses are unexplored. The sulfides occur as beds, fracture infills, and disseminated grains. Reserves are estimated at 207 555 tonnes grading 7.380/0 Zn, 2.76% Pb, and 91.81 g/t Ag. The deposit is isoclinally folded, dips steeply west, plunges 50 degrees south, and is faulted out to the north, where drag folding has reversed the plunge. Minor cross-faults contain talc and sericite. High sphalerite but low pyrite abundances result in poor responses to standard electromagnetic techniques. Lens 3, which contains more pyrite than Lens 2, responds better to induced polarization and allows detection. Geochemical anomalies are found in a nearby swamp and stream, but an impervious till cover inhibits the development of soil anomalies.

"Recently, the arsenic grade in copper ores has been increasing year by year. Arsenic bearing minerals (enargite (Cu3AsS4) and tennantite (Cu12As4S13)) coexist with typical copper minerals such as chalcopyrite (CuFeS2). The removal of arsenic from copper ores that contain relatively high arsenic content is essential due to its adverse impact on the environment and the resulting economic consequences. In this study, arsenic removal and dissolution behaviour of Cu and As from enargite (Cu3AsS4) were investigated using ferric sulphate (Fe2(SO4)3) solutions containing sodium chloride under high pressure oxidation conditions. The effects of numerous parameters including the concentration of Fe2(SO4)3 and NaCl, temperature, total pressure, leaching time and particle size were studied while other variables such as pulp density and stirring speed were fixed at 100 g/L and 750 rpm. The results showed that more than 60% of the copper was dissolved in a 0.1 M ferric sulphate solution under the high pressure oxidative conditions, whereas the leaching rate of arsenic was less than 20%. SEM observation revealed that elemental sulphur was deposited on the surface of enargite forming a passivation layer and the residue was agglomerated. Those phenomena may cause a decrease in the copper leaching rate. It was found that more than 80% of copper was dissolved in the ferric sulphate solution in the presence of 0.34 M sodium chloride under the conditions optimized, whereas the dissolution of arsenic in the mixture did not exceed 2%. XRD analysis of the solid residues from the leaching experiments used ferric sulphate and mixtures of ferric sulphate and sodium chloride showed arsenic to be present as scorodite (FeAsO4).INTRODUCTION In recent years, there has been an increase of the arsenic (As) content of copper ores due to the gradual depletion of high grade copper ores. In some copper deposits, arsenic occurs in the form of minerals such as enargite and tennantite. The removal of arsenic in ores containing copper is critical to the production of pure copper and the management of the environmental challenges caused by the smelting process. Due to the environmental risk caused by arsenic emission and the deteriorated quality of the copper product, smelting of enargite concentrates is not an effective method for the extraction of copper (Padilla et al., 2010; Safarzadeh et al., 2014; Long et al., 2012). Therefore, a number of studies have been carried out to develop arsenic removal technologies from copper ores using various methods such as hydrometallurgy (Curreli et al., 2009; Tongamp et al. 2010), pyrometallurgy (Dalewski., 1999; Padilla. et al, 2012) and bio-oxidation (Ehrlich, 1964; Sasaki et al., 2010). Several hydrometallurgical leaching processes like sulphuric acid, alkaline sodium sulphide and sodium sulphate and ferric sulphate leaching have been developed to treat enargite ores and concentrates. Our present longwall problems in Cape Breton can be grouped under five main classifications. These are: (1) Roof control on the face and on the main roadways leading thereto. (2) Transportation of coal along face and levels. (3) Mechanical loading at the face. (4) Safe method of conducting and applying power at the working faces. (5) Dust nuisance. The usual layout for longwall operation in Cape Breton is to have three, and sometimes four, faces in line with each other, the length of face being from 400 feet to 500 feet (see Figure 1), and producing between 425 and 500 tons per face. Each wall is serviced by a well constructed roadway for transportation of coal, men, and materials, and is operated as an independent unit. Each wall works under a regular cycle of operations: first, cutting and boring; second, drawing hardwood chocks, building midwalls, and shifting panlines; and third, loading. The present method of roof control and operation of longwall faces has developed through trial and error since the commencement of longwall miring in Cape Breton. The basic method of roof control in all longwalls in Cape Breton is: rigid support of the roof in the immediate vicinity of the working faces by hardwood blocks, as shown in Figure 2, accompanied by a cushion support furnished by continuous midwalls, 12 feet wide, constructed of stone obtained from the waste and spaced at 50-foot centres. These midwalls are kept forward to within 4 feet to 10 feet of the working face and allow a gradual subsidence of overhead strata, thus preventing any sudden break at the working face.

One the most important tasks after excavation of tunnels is the implementation and installation of a support system. Tunnel collapse poses a safety hazard and can cause worker injuries. In addition, it may have a severe economic impact because tunnel collapse can stop production and ore transportation. Therefore, an appropriate and well-designed support system is necessary for collapse prevention and to help stabilize the tunnels. In this research, we suggest a support system for the Parvade1 underground coal mine. The study case is a common mining roadway tunnel in the E1 longwall panel in this mine. To design an appropriate support system, we used the finite element method (Phase2 software). The results of this research can be used to design support systems for future tunnels in this mine and any coal mine that has similar conditions.

"The purpose of this paper is to report in a general way on the use of the Portaspec X Ray Spectrograph.At Manitou Barvue, we are milling two types of ores, copper and zinc. The control assay practice was to take grab samples at 4 hour intervals. These samples were dried in the mill, then taken over to the Assay Office where two operators would process them. Three hours later results were available at almost the same time as the operator was ready to take his set of grabs again, leaving no time for adjustments, if any were needed.After a reduction of personnel, there were no assays available on night shift. This practice was slow and inadequate, and a new way of doing control assays was investigated.After investigation the Portaspec was found suitable for the type of operation that we had in mind. The Portaspec is a conventional dispersive type of X Ray spectrograph. The instrument consists of three parts:The Power Supply The Spectrographic Head The Digital ScalerIn our case, where dried powder samples are analyzed, the instrument was provided with a two sample holder using one for the standard and the other for the sample. The operation of the instrment does not require any degree of skill or knowledge of chemistry or spectrography.Previous to buying the instrument, six sets of six to ten samples were sent to the supplier along with the assay for each sample. These samples were Cu. HDS., Cu. Conc., Cu. tls, - Zn. HDS., Zn. Conc., Zn. tls. A definite pattern was observed. For example - six Cu. HDS. samples ranging from .40 to .90 gave 10400 counts for the lowest to 16.040 counts for the highest. The number of counts were then plotted to give percentages."

The Slave Province, a segment of Archean continental crust, migrated west and north from the northern flank of the Superior protoshield shortly after the Kenoran orogeny. The probable cause of migration, the path it followed and the cause of its coming to rest can be inferred from the Bouguer gravity data. The migration caused an indentation in the edge of the Superior protoshield which precluded the development of the Hudsonian orogenic front under Hudson Bay. As the nickel and asbestos deposits of the Thompson Nickel Belt and the New Quebec Nickel Belt are restricted to this orogenic front, no such deposits would occur under Hudson Bay.

Availability of the elements originating from steelmaking slag for various marine phytoplankters including purely cultured strains and natural populations was tested in land and shipboard laboratories. The results obtained demonstrate that, although their solubility was not uniform among different slags, dissolved iron, silicate and phosphate from the slag stimulate phytoplankton growth. No negative effect of the slag addition on their growth was observed at lower dose, e.g. less than 200 mg/l. Since most coastal waters are the hypernitrogenous environment due to anthropogenic load of ammonium, the slag can be an ideal source of silicate and phosphate, which restore the hyper-nitrogenous condition into truly eutrophic condition with balanced Redfield ratio. In so-called HNLC (high-nitrate low-chlorophyll) oceanic areas such as the Southern Ocean and the subarctic North Pacific, where iron is almost only limiting factor of the phytoplankton growth, the slag could also be a source of iron and enhance CO2 fixation by phytoplankton photosynthesis. Abstract - Newly discovered pegmatites distributed throughout the sub-surface environs of the Musselwhite Archean gold deposit occur as narrow dikes that intrude most of the major lithological units. The mineralogy and textures of the pegmatite dikes are characteristic of granitic pegmatites of the "Rare-Element Class"; more specifically, they closely resemble varieties of the "Complex-type" granitic pegmatites that are commonly associated with zones of tantalum mineralization. The essential minerals in the dikes comprise albite, quartz, and K-feldspar, together with lesser amounts of mica (including lepidolite), spessartine, tourmaline, and locally, spodumene. Fine-grained (30 µm to 300 µm), tantalum-bearing minerals occur in the quartzo-feldspathic matrix of the dikes as disseminations, in interstices, and in small vugs. The nature of the tantalum-bearing mineral assemblage present in individual pegmatite dikes varies from a simple mineral assemblage composed of ferrocolumbite (with around 39 wt% Ta2O5) in the most northerly dike, to more complex assemblages comprised of manganotantalite (with up to 75 wt% Ta2O5), ferrotapiolite (with up to 79 wt% Ta2O5), and microlite (with up to 76 wt% Ta2O5) that are present in dikes located several kilometers to the south and southwest. The compositional characteristics and textural relationships of the tantalum-bearing minerals in the dikes provide evidence of igneous fractionation trends that are typical of rare-element granitic pegmatites. Such trends suggest that the newly discovered pegmatites represent part of a more extensive group of cogenetic, tantalum-mineralized dikes.

"A380 alloy has been widely employed to produce thin-wall components via high pressure die casting (HPDC). During HPDC processing, there is a significant problem of property variation even with the very stable and precision automated casting procedure. The enlarged variation lowers the component performance and affects the steady and uniform property distribution along the whole component. In this study, high shear melt conditioning technology was developed and applied to the melt prior to pouring into the shot sleeve. Experimental results show that with application of intensive melt shearing, the variation of elongation was decreased from 21.8to 13.9%, and yield strength variation was reduced from5.5to 3.6%. The improved property variation is attributed to enhanced nucleation both in shot sleeve and the die-cavity, and to the improved distribution of porosity and secondary phases as a benefit of high shear induced grain refinement. With application of high shear, large number of the Spinel phase (MgAl2O4) particles with double size distribution in average diameter of 80and 300nm were formed. Due to the good orientation relationship and small misfit between alpha Al and MgAl2O4, the particles act as the effective nuclei in shot sleeve and die cavity, respectively.INTRODUCTIONA380 alloy had been widely used for produce automotive components by cold chamber high pressure die casting(HPDC) processing, due to its relative good mechanical properties and cast ability performance, and more important most of A380 ingots were produced by recycled Al alloys. Therefore, to promote utility of A380 will contribute to reducing emission of CO2and to the lightweight of automotive industry as well. When cold chamber HPDC was employed to produce the components, the mechanical properties of A380 alloy always have a distribution range (named variation herein), or in other words the properties were not stable. The reason was ascribed to the typical solidification characteristics occurred in HPDC processing. During HPDC processing, there are three steps of melt movement. The first step is that the melt was poured into shot sleeve at temperature of about 680°C, in which shot sleeve was preheated by few shots of melt filling, or by heater. During step one, the first solidification of melt was happened in shot sleeve and about 20% solid made of coarse a-Al grains was formed(Li, Xiong, & Guo, 2016).Such kind of grains will retain in the final products and deteriorate the properties variation. The second step is that the melt was forced moving forward slowly by plunger at about 0.2–0.3m/s until the liquid melt front to the inner gate of mold. The third step is that the melt moved very fast to complete the filling of die cavity and refilling the solidification shrinkage by fast movement of plunger about 2–3m/s. The second solidification was occurred in die cavity and fine a-Al grains will be formed by high cooling rate at about 500–1000°C/s. From the solidification point of view, the grain size was dominated by nucleation and growth. When HPDC was employed to produce components, the melt quality becomes the priority factor to control the solidification process as the other casting parameters were kept at the same."

The CCR refinery, which was built in 1931, treats both internal and third party copper anodes to produce 325,000 mt of copper as cathodes. These anodes contain high levels of impurities, such as Ni, As, Sb and Bi, that reports to the electrolyte during the refining step and need to be removed in order to maintain cathode quality and operating efficiencies. In the purification plant, the electrolyte is de-copperized via electrowinning in three stages. In the last stage, the copper content of the electrolyte is reduced to below 1 gpl in order to maximize the co-deposition of As, Sb and Bi with the Cu. This is accomplished with minimum arsine gas generation by using periodic reversal of the current and by controlling the final copper content of the electrolyte. Nevertheless, the possibility of exposure to arsine is treated as a major risk and controls have been implemented to reduce this risk. This paper describes the controls in place at the purification plant, which are being continuously improved through periodic risk assessments and audits. INTRODUCTION The CCR Refinery, which is a part of Glencore Canada Corporation and located in Montreal-East, Quebec, is a custom copper and precious metal refinery, with a capacity to refine 325,000 tonnes of copper anodes per year. Copper anodes are received from the Horne smelter in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Altonorte smelter in Chile and other 3rd party smelters. CCR anodes are produced using the spent anodes from the tankhouse along with purchased spent anodes and copper scrap. The precious metal plant treats the tankhouse anode slime, purchased anode slime, precious metal ingots and Doré anodes from Glencore’s Brunswick lead smelter in Belledune, New Brunswick. CCR products include copper cathodes, silver and gold bullion, a platinum-palladium concentrate, selenium, tellurium dioxide and nickel sulfate. In 1975 an accident occurred at CCR where two employees were exposed to fatal levels of arsine emitted from the then existing purification cells. This process was therefore shut down immediately. Research and development work was then initiated to determine the optimum electrowinning conditions whereby arsine gas generation would be minimized while maintaining high copper and impurity removal efficiencies. It was found that the application of periodic reversal of current (PRC) during the last stage of electrowinning retarded the onset of arsine formation while at the same time allowing the copper concentration to be reduced to less than 1 gpl (Houlachi & Claessens, 1978). A new purification plant was designed based on the PRC technology and was started up in 1976. In addition to the use of PRC electrowinning, the new plant is located in a fully enclosed section of the tankhouse. A special effort was made to design a ventilation system to evacuate the acid mist in addition to any arsine gas. Arsine monitors were installed to measure the emissions from the stack along with arsine levels in the workroom. The arsine monitors and the ventilation system were interlocked with the rectifiers (Thiriar et al., 1983).

Abstract - A simple linear model for interpreting duplicate analytical data for a range of values is described. The conceptual model can be quantified using a reduced major axis model rather than the inappropriate traditional least squares approach. The reduced major axis parameters (slope, intercept) and associated errors provide a quantitative basis for: (1) defining bias, and (2) comparing results within laboratories, between laboratories and between sampling/analytical methods. Application of the linear model must be preceded by extraction of obvious outliers or small groups of values that have an inordinately large impact on values of the statistical parameters defining the model. In addition, consideration must be directed to the presence of more than one population of sampling error, as in the case of multiple styles of mineralization being sampled.

Geostatistics has been widely accepted as a standard tool for reserve estimation and mine planning. Kriging has been adopted as the best estimator of grade. Although many discussions have been conducted in the use of kriging in the mining industry, insufficient attention has been given to solutions for over-smoothing. This effect has been frequently encountered in many mines. The so-called over-smearing refers to two facts: (1) over-reduction of grade variabilities and (2) over-estimation of low-grade ore tonnages. This study attempts to link over-smoothing effects with several other practical aspects in kriging. These include the weight independence of data values, variogram modeling, and search strategy used in estimation. All solutions recommended here are suited for precious metal deposits (e.g. gold) in open-pit mining.

"Manufacturing of Jaw CrushersOriginIn 1858 Eli Whitney Blake invented the first successful mechanical rock breaker-the Blake-type jaw crusher. Blake adapted a mechanical principal, the powerful toggle linkage system used to transform rotating motion and energy into oscillating mot ion and tremendous compressive forces. Today these same principals apply and the basic Blake-type jaw crusher is one of the leading machines of its class for heavy duty primary crushing service.In 1881 Philetus W. Gates patented a design for a crusher, the forerunner of the modern gyratory crusher which dominated the field from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. In 1910 the largest gyratory crushers built had 48-inch openings. However, about this time the jaw crusher came to life when the Power and Mining Machinery Co. built an even larger sized opening crusher-a giant 84-inch by 60-inch jaw crusher for a trap rock quarry in Pennsylvania. A 24-inch gyratory crusher became the ideal sized secondary machine for this size jaw. From that time on jaw crushers were looked on favourably as primary breakers and lines were brought up to date to parallel the already developed gyratory lines.FunctionMost heavy duty Blake-type jaw crushers work basically the same way. They are ruggedly designed and capable of crushing material in some cases in excess of 80, 000 p.s.i. compressive strength. They are very simple machines with few moving part s and, with the exception of replacement of renewable parts, are relatively maintenance free. It is quite common to have these machines in product ion for 20 to 30 years. The following will de scribe how these machines work. Large-diameter high-inertia flywheels which are connected to the main eccentric shaft, rotate inside a connecting rod type mechanism called a Pitman. It transforms rotating motion into vertical oscillating motion. This vertical motion is in turn transformed into reciprocating mot ion by means of a system of 2 toggles, each connected to the Pitman. The reduction ratio of feed input to discharge is usually about 8 to I. Output capacities can vary from 100 tons/hour to 1200 tons/hour depending on the size of machine and its discharge opening. Horsepower requirements can vary from 75 hp to 400 hp.The entire crusher chamber is lined with replaceable 14070 manganese steel liner plates. This material is ideally suited for the job since it hardens as it wears during crusher operation. Manganese is also used in the high wear areas at each end of the toggle plates."

"Manufacturing of Jaw CrushersOriginIn 1858 Eli Whitney Blake invented the first successful mechanical rock breaker-the Blake-type jaw crusher. Blake adapted a mechanical principal, the powerful toggle linkage system used to transform rotating motion and energy into oscillating mot ion and tremendous compressive forces. Today these same principals apply and the basic Blake-type jaw crusher is one of the leading machines of its class for heavy duty primary crushing service.In 1881 Philetus W. Gates patented a design for a crusher, the forerunner of the modern gyratory crusher which dominated the field from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. In 1910 the largest gyratory crushers built had 48-inch openings. However, about this time the jaw crusher came to life when the Power and Mining Machinery Co. built an even larger sized opening crusher-a giant 84-inch by 60-inch jaw crusher for a trap rock quarry in Pennsylvania. A 24-inch gyratory crusher became the ideal sized secondary machine for this size jaw. From that time on jaw crushers were looked on favourably as primary breakers and lines were brought up to date to parallel the already developed gyratory lines.FunctionMost heavy duty Blake-type jaw crushers work basically the same way. They are ruggedly designed and capable of crushing material in some cases in excess of 80, 000 p.s.i. compressive strength. They are very simple machines with few moving part s and, with the exception of replacement of renewable parts, are relatively maintenance free. It is quite common to have these machines in product ion for 20 to 30 years. The following will de scribe how these machines work. Large-diameter high-inertia flywheels which are connected to the main eccentric shaft, rotate inside a connecting rod type mechanism called a Pitman. Coal was first banked by the Dominion Coal Company, Limited, in 1898, near No. 2 Colliery, the same site as is presently used for that purpose. Though today there are banks at Glace Bay, Sydney, and Sydney Mines, these notes, except when otherwise desirable, will be confined to describing the practice as developed at the No. 2 Banking Station, Glace Bay, as being typical of methods obtaining at all sites. Storing The manner in which the coal was piled is illustrated diagrammatically in the accompanying sketch. A train of coal was brought on the main trestle, which extended the full length of the banking ground at a height of 22 to 39 feet above the natural surface, and dumped into bins which were integral with the trestle work. Chutes from these bins permitted the coal to be fed into 3-ton cars, which were horse drawn laterally on narrow gauge tracks laid about 10 ft. centres, to a maximum distance of 400ft. from the trestle. These cars were end-dump and as the pile extended laterally the narrow gauge tracks were lengthened by shorter or longer filling pieces, so that their ends were always kept at the brow of the bank. Much coal, however, had to be dumped directly on the tracks and hand trimmed to fill the valleys, and level off, between the tracks.
