"In order to reduce the dosage costs and increase the economic benefits of a full floating process in a low grade complex multi-metals W-Mo ore, based on the study of the magnetic characteristics of the main gangue minerals, a joint process by magnetic separation and floatation technology is adopted. The first step of the flowsheet is to recover magnetite by magnetic separation, then remove the magnetic gangues by high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) and finally recycle the W-Mo from the magnetically separated tailings by flotation. Results of the lab experiment show that in comparison with the full flotation process, the floatation feed tonnage of the combined flowsheet are only 46%. The grade and the recovery of Mo in the rough Mo-Bi concentrate is similar with the original one while the WO3 in the tungsten rough concentrate is increased from 3.85% to 6.64%. The dosage costs are reduced by 53%. The new process can significantly improve the plant economically. INTRODUCTION With the continuous exploitation of scheelite resources, the easily obtained resource is gradually depleting. The ""lean, fine and complex"" scheelite resource has become the main research object of tungsten beneficiation (Lou et al., 2010) (Xiao et al., 2013). The passive situation of tungsten beneficiation can be reversed by enhancing technological innovation and investment in science and technology, changing the business philosophy and mode of production, optimizing the process structure and process conditions, improving various technical indexes and reducing production costs of reagents, which will maximize economic benefits (Jiang et al., 2012 ) (Zhu et al., 2016). A polymetallic deposit of tungsten molybdenum bismuth original process adopts a full flotation process. With the expansion of stope mining, the content of valuable metals in the ore continues to decrease, resulting in a high cost per ton of concentrate produced and a low output value (Li et al., 2015)."

Enormous amount of iron ore fines is generated, due to partly soft and friable nature, during mining. Coal fines are also produced during their processing. These fines cannot be used directly in ironmaking reactors. Utilization of these fines for extracting metal is of vital concern for resource conservation and pollution control, and therefore, a novel concept of agglomeration by cold-bonding is developed. Composite briquettes/pellets of iron ore fines with coal fines were prepared in the laboratory by cold-bonding technique. Various binders such as lime, Ca(OH)2, slaked lime, dextrin, molasses, fly ash etc were employed either alone or in combination in different proportions for making composite briquettes/pellets. It was possible to obtain dry strength of composite briquettes more than 300 N/briquette in some cases and more than 200 N/briquette in many trials. The combination of fly ash with slaked lime and molasses produced the highest strength, more than 400 N/briquette. Drop strength and shatter index values of composite briquettes/pellets were also measured. In briquettes, best compressive strength (978 N/briquette) is observed by using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) binder. In pellet, best compressive strength (362 N/pellet) is achieved by PVA; shatter index (0.1%) and dry drop strength (158 numbers) are also good. Compressive strength above 200 N/pellet is obtained by fly ash, slaked lime and molasses combination.

Porphyry copper deposits are the most important source of copper and also gold within the orogenic belts. These deposits are characterized by low grade copper ore (0.2% to 1% copper) and host precious metals like gold, silver and platinum. A characterization tool has been developed for complex porphyry type copper-gold deposits with an aim to quantify copper and precious metal deportment. This quantification is a challenging task due to low grades and also due to the presence of both visible and invisible precious metal content in different sulphide and non-sulphide phases. Studies were initiated on various complex, ore deposits and also on samples representing various processing streams such as flotation and leach products. This paper presents the development of a systematic approach to diagnostic metallurgy using state-of-the-art optical and automated mineralogy, micro-probe, dynamic SIMS and TOF-SIMS analysis for quantification of invisible and visible precious metals content in various species. The relevance of this characterization to metallurgy will also be briefly discussed in this paper.

"More than 85% of phosphorous reserves in China occur as middle-low grade phosphate of sedimentary origin. The main gangues are dolomite, quartz, silicates, and clays. The characteristics of minerals are finely disseminated. Flotation results have shown that the floatability of apatite of this kind of ore is much worse than that of igneous and metasedimentary origin because of its high specific surface area. Although some effective depressants, such as naphthalene sulfonate and phenanthrene sulfonate, are used to decrease the MgO content in the P2O5 concentrate, its presence is still high (about 2%) in the Chinese concentrates. Meanwhile, the wastewater may cause some environmental problems. Batch flotation results and measurements of specific surface area and CO3 2- have revealed that there is a relationship between the floatability of apatite and the surface area.A two-stage flotation flowsheet, which includes a combination of direct and reverse flotation, was developed for beneficiating sedimentary phosphate ores. The direct flotation was conducted in an alkaline medium and most of the apatite and carbonate minerals floated leaving quartz and siliceous gangue in the sink. In the reverse flotation circuit, the floated product was further beneficiated in an acidic medium to eliminate the carbonate as a float product. Apart from the high quality of concentrate, the two-stage flotation also facilitated the treatment and the recycling of wastewater. A wastewater recycling procedure was developed and tested in a continuous flotation process. The key factor was the careful selection of effective and non-toxic reagents."

"Mine tailings is one of the most important bulk industrial solid wastes, but its rate of comprehensive utilization is relatively low. Efficient separation, recovery and utilization of the valuable components is one focus of the comprehensive utilization of tailings. Beneficiation recovery of the valuable minerals is the most direct comprehensive utilization method for tailings. There are generally different kinds of nonmetallic minerals contained in the nonferrous metal mine tailings, which are secondary mineral resources waiting for further developing and recovery. Comprehensive utilization test studies on fluorite in tungsten beneficiation tailings and feldspar in molybdenum beneficiation tailings have been carried out by author and good test results are achieved. Some of the technologies developed in the test study have been applied in industrial productions, which have been working well. The economic, social and environmental benefits are remarkable. Our test studies and some production practices will be summarized and current situation and existing problems of comprehensive utilization for nonferrous metal mine tailings will also be discussed. Microbial pretreatment of a double refractory gold ore was investigated using a white rot fungus, Coriolus versicolor (ATTC 20869) to improve gold extraction. A series of preliminary tests were conducted to determine the amenability of the ore to fungus degradation. Pulp density, temperature, pH and retention times were the process variables considered. Both a single. Stage and two-step processes were studied to establish process conditions. During the single stage process, the ore was contacted with the fungus culture (biotic) for 3weeks at 30°C and pH 10.0. For the two-step process, the first step involves ore contact with the culture medium (abiotic) at 45°C and pH 10.0 followed by fungal contact (biotic) at 30°C. Results indicated that carbonaceous matter is not degraded but passivated by the fungus; as preg-robbing activities dropped significantly from 18.1% to below 1.0%. The single stage process resulted in higher gold recovery than the two-step process Gold ex-traction by cyanidation of the pretreated ore was 78.9% for the single stage compared with 15.0% for the untreated ore. In the two-step process, only 73.3% gold extraction was achieved. Application of the two step process conditions to a high grade flotation concentrate, resulted in 93.3% gold ex-traction as against untreated concentrate of 30.5%. The results show that the microbial pretreatment process degraded sulfide sulfur, passivated carbonaceous matter and enhanced gold extraction from double refractory gold ore and concentrate.

Micro-fine disseminated molybdenite was ground in a laboratory stirred mill using steel media and zirconium media respectively. The floatability of ground molybdenite and slurry chemistry was investigated. It was found that the total recovery of ground molybdenite using zirconium media was higher while the pH and Eh of the slurry are lower than that using steel media. When steel media was used, iron oxy-hydroxides had been generated coated on the surface of molybdenite, and decreased the floatability of molybdenite, especially of the -10µm particles. The iron and lead oxy-hydroxides was generated by the reaction between steel media with pyrite and galena associated with molybdenite. It was also found that changing the grinding media to inert can benefit the flotation of molybdenite. In the current energy-sensitive world, sustainable development in the mineral industry will require new, better and more efficient processes. Novel comminution methods, which offer the prospect of achieving the required outcomes of size reduction and mineral liberation at lower energy consumption, are continually being sought. In the past five years, extensive research using high voltage pulse electrical comminution technology has been carried out at the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC), in collaboration with selFrag AG. The major outcome of this research is the development of the concept of pre-weakening ore particles by electrical comminution procedures to reduce the energy consumption in the downstream grinding circuit. The research has also verified the preferential liberation of valuable minerals by electrical comminution. Given the advantages, several potential applications of electrical comminution in the mineral industry are proposed, including AG/SAG mill feed pre-weakening, pebble treatment, ball mill feed pre-weakening, early recovery of the liberated valuable minerals, crack/micro crack generation for improved leaching, and smelter slag treatment. For the mineral industry to utilize electrical comminution, two emerging issues identified from the research need to be address. They are the energy consumption by electrical comminution in the locked cycle treatment and the facilities scale up necessary to move this technology from the laboratory to the plant. "It was discovered that the selective activity of bacteria during the extraction of raw material concentrates by means of flotation could also be achieved with extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) excreted by bacteria. EPS, which is extracted by means of centrifuging bacterial cultures, can help to significantly reduce the use of cyanides, approximately 200,000 t/a of which are used for ore dressing today.The bacterium used was Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. In order to identify the bandwidth of the oxidation activity, 20 bacterial strains of the strain collection of the University of Hamburg were attracted to iron(II) sulfate and pyrite under defined conditions. All strains oxidized iron(II) sulfate ten times faster than pyrite.EPS has so far been derived from four strains. In general, EPS extracts are divided into a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic fraction. The hydrophilic fraction is composed of e.g. fucose, rhamnose and glucose; fatty acids such as dodecanoic acid, hexadecanoic acid, octadecanoic acid and nonadecanoic acid were found in the hydrophobic fraction.Pure mineral phases and mineral mixtures were used for the flotation tests. As opposed to current knowledge, the results were reproducible with technical flotation machines."

Based on the characteristics of typical marine sedimentary phosphate rock in Guizhou, Southwest China, together with the research findings made on the surface electric properties of pure collophanites taken from different areas in pure water and under the action of collectors, a pure minerals flotation test of collophanite was conducted in this research. The differences of collophanite flotation behavior and the effects of the different pH values, varieties, and dosage of collector on flotation separation of collophanite were studied. It is suggested that that in pure water, collophanite had a negative charge within a wide pH range. The electro negativity values of collophanite increased with the addition of collectors GJBW and WF-01. When GJBW and WF-01 were used as collectors, the collophanite was depressed in acid medium, but had a good flotability in basic medium.

This paper explores the relationship between the rheological behaviour and mineralogical nature of three different natural ore types. Rheological measurements performed here on Platreef, Kimber-lite and Norseman-Wiluna ores are correlated with the variation of phylosilicate mineral content in these ores and the corresponding physical properties of selected phylosilicate mineral groups. Preliminary results show that the clay mineral group (talc) has the least effect on both Bingham yield stress and viscosity of the three ore slurries tested, whereas the serpentine mineral group has a dramatic increasing effect on the Bingham yield stress especially at very low solid volume fractions. The Bingham viscosity of the mineral slurry appears to be the most influenced by the presence of the swelling clay mineral group (smectite). Significant increases in either Bingham yield stress or viscosity due to elevated contents of these problematic phylosilicate mineral groups are likely to cause negative effects on the processing and manageability of mineral slurries but it is unclear which is likely to have a more detrimental effect.

Water-sealed cyclone is a new efficient equipment to use for grading,concentrating of slurry, it was researched and developed by the Kunming Metallurgy Research Institute in the 1980s , and ac-cessed to the 1990 national invention award and the national patent products (ZL02245313.X ). The equipment and technology are innovative, firstly, we design a set of micro-pressure (0.005~0.008MPa) water-sealed device, which eliminates the gas phase of three-phase of sol-id-liquid-gas of the traditional general hydrocyclone grading process, it only has solid and liquid phases. Secondly, the axial velocity envelope surface which is a factor of controlling the accuracy of grading changes to a wedge rotation; and the interface of upward flow to down flow changes from surface to the solid, it can improve grading accuracy. Thirdly, water-sealed box and catheter devices make the stilling which pass through the cyclone cone centrifugal force fields re-enter the pressure grading zone of catheter. The three innovations make water-sealed cyclone can reduce the loss of overflow and has less mud in stilling product. Because the excellent performance, the water-sealed cyclone has application in non-ferrous metals, ferrous metals, non-metallic and aluminum hydroxide industries for grading, desliming and concentrating since it has successfully developed.

The fine fraction (< 2 mm) of the high grade Mn-ore from the world class Moanda deposit, Francevillan basin, in Gabon, contains up to 30 wt. % of manganese and about 0.4 wt. % phosphorous. A pilot study at laboratory scale integrating mineralogy and geochemistry before and after ultrasonic treatment was conducted on the fine fraction (< 2 mm) of oxidized Mn ore in order to reduce the phosphorous content and enrich this fraction in manganese. The fine fraction was dried, crushed at 2 cm and sieved at 2 mm. The two fractions (< 2 mm and 2 mm ? 2 cm) were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microprobe ? electron dispersive spectroscopy analyses. Both fractions contain lithiophorite, cryptomelane and pyrolusite as Mn carrier, and goethite, muscovite, illite and quartz as contaminants. The Mn hydroxide nsutite was only found in the fraction 2mm ? 2 cm.The < 2 mm fraction is significantly richer in goethite, muscovite/illite, and quartz. Phosphorous carriers are mainly goethite (up to 2.8 wt. % P2O5), while the Mn minerals contain up to 0.8 wt. % P2O5. The Mn minerals are partly included in an agglomerate of goethite, muscovite/illite, and quartz. The < 2 mm fraction was treated by ultrasound for 30 s in normal water. Mineralogical and chemical analyses after ultrasound treatment showed that the Mn-minerals were largely liberated from the goethite-muscovite-illite agglomerate. Mass balance calculations show that after ultrasonic treatment the < 2 mm fraction was ? 50 % enriched in Mn and ?50 % impoverished in P.

Over the years, Coal Beneficiation at Tata Steel - West Bokaro has seen varied changes. With increasing R.O.M throughputs & lowering of the concentrate ash, Fine Coal Beneficiation process has thrown up myriad challenges. Development of Synthetic Collector was initiated couple of years back with Technical assistance from NLC Nalco India Ltd. Coal from West Bokaro unit was sent to Nalco?s Naperville (US) research lab for developing Tailor made synthetic collector . After comprehensive lab flotation studies, synthetic collector was developed & recommended for plant evaluation. The lab scale results were very promising in terms of improved separation efficiency & yield at similar ash level. The collector sample received from Nalco research laboratory were revalidated at Nalco Kolkata lab and finally at Tata Steel West Bokaro lab, confirming the promising results. (S.E 25-30 % better than HS Diesel) The key factors playing out for this improvement initiative are a) Scope for improvement in Clean Coal Yield at same or lower ash level coupled with improved Selectivity and Separation Efficiency b) Introduction of a Synthetic Collector with a Green Chemistry and subsequent replacement of H S Diesel, which is highly inflammable with a less inflammable & safer product Trial was conducted at plant scale in two phases and comparative performance of the Collector vis-à-vis Diesel was evaluated across the following Coal Seams of Q- SE (Seam VII, VIII, VI, IX and X). The results generated are very promising and the improvements observed are summarized below. ? Separation efficiency improvement by more than 20% observed. ? Flotation Fines yield increase varied from 0.6- 1.5 % on raw coal basis across different seams. ? Consumption pattern is 20-25 % lower than Diesel. The interaction and galena flotation with xanthenes and dexanthogen regularities have been de-fined. So, using thermodynamic method of analysis, the thermodynamic stability of [galena - xanthenes - water] system and the behavior of lead xanthenes surface state in solution were devised. Thus, results of cared out calculations and experimental investigation completely coincide with-out depending on witch product of sulfur oxidation is formed in the solution. In additional, was obtained quantitative physico-chemical models for the necessary xanthenes concentration of lead sul-fide complete flotation in the tuning fork of: at ?? values from 7.0 up to 9.0 (or at the formation of lead carbonate PbCO3 ) and at ?? values from 9.0 up to 12 (or at the formation of lead hydro carbonate Pb3(OH)2(CO3)2 Physico-chemical models derived can be used as the criteria for functional units of automation systems to control and regulate the flotation process in mineral processing plants.

"We have designed a planar perpendicular flow cell for electrochemical measurement of a mineral available as a fine powder. The working electrode consisting of mineral powder supported on a carbon paste surface as a 4 mm diameter disk, was concentrically positioned inside a vertical tubular reactor. The counter electrode was a 316L tube embedded in the body cell. The supportive media was a 1.2:1 mixture of candle wax and graphite powder respectively, which is a good electrical conductor. The concentrate electrode as a film attached on a carbon paste disk was prepared rubbing the surface carbon paste against dried powdered mineral. An Ag/AgCl 1 M KCl cell as a reference electrode was attached to the body cell by using a fast coupling fitting. A stable flow rate was achieved using a frequency inverter to drive the pump motor. The flow through the cell verified to be laminar due to the Reynolds number in the cell flow passage. Cyclic voltammetry from - 1200 a 600 mVSAgE were measured using a carbon paste with and without mineral attached to the surface. The main findings of this work were: a). Electrochemical measurement of mineral powder in contact with flowing samples was easily achieved using ground mineral. This is important where massive samples are not available. b). The voltammetric curve features of ground mineral coincided with reported data. c). The working electrode could be quickly replaced while maintaining very good reproducibility."

Andalusite, silimanite and kyanite are polymorphs of aluminosilicate known as kyanite group. Minerals of this group are used in refractory. Sarband andalusite deposit is located in Markazi province in Iran. Mineralogical studies showed that the main minerals of this sample are andalusite (5%~10 %), mica, quartz and feldspar. Processing of the samples was carried out using two sizes, i.e. +500 µm and -500 µm. In the processing of +500 µm scrabble test was carried out on -4750 +500 µm and -2380 +500 µm. For -500+300 µm shaking table and magnetic separation were applied. For -300 µm fraction, flotation was carried out. The results of this tests showed that the processing of Shazand andalusite was not possible, because silica and iron impurities were diffused inside the andalusite mineral grains.

Stone coal containing vanadium is an important vanadium resource in China. Roasting and oxidation of vanadium is the foundation for extracting vanadium from stone coal. This article takes stone coal vanadium ore in Tongshan of Hubei Province as research target to conduct oxidation roasting test on it by using a self-developed low-sodium compound additive and a new optimized technology. Firstly, use potentiometric titration, X diffraction, energy spectrum and electron probe to study valence change, occurrence and phase transition of vanadium during oxidation roasting process. On this basis, primary work is done on oxidation kinetics of vanadium by exploring the steps that control reaction rate during vanadium oxidation process and determining the related dynamic parameter ? apparent activation energy. The study shows that occurrence of vanadium in stone coal of Tongshan is mainly in illite, and that the result of phase transition in roasting process is disappearance of illite containing vanadium, formation of soluble vanadate and potassium feldspar, albite. It further demonstrates that oxidation process of vanadium is step by step (V(?)? V(?)? V(?)), and its oxidation reaction is controlled by diffusion kinetics whose dynamic apparent activation energy is E1=81.19kJ.mol-1.

Among all gravity concentration methods, Shaking-table is the most effective one from the metallurgical point of view. In this study, Shaking-table was used for concentrating a manganese ore sample from Ghasem Abad area in Kerman, Iran. Experiments were designed by using L8Taguchi design with five variables and each variable in two levels. The influence of each variable and their interactions on the operation of the device was studied. The variables under investigation were: table slope, table frequency, water flowrate, feed rate, and particle size. The manganese concentrate grade and recovery were used as response variables. It was shown that water flowrate, table slope, feed rate, and particle size are the significant variable on concentrate grade; while, all the variables influence manganese recovery.

"Mining in the Ore Mountains (Germany) has taken place for hundreds of years and in several stages. Each stage produced its typical tailing. According to the former state of the art of the processing much valuables could not be extracted. This was caused by complex interlocking of the minerals, low grades, or by upgrading processes not sensitive enough for small particle sizes. Thus the processing of these fractions was uneconomically. Modern technical possibilities and rising metal prices bring these tailings disposals into focus for the processing of strategic metals. Mining disposals can be classified in heaps with coarse, low grade rock, which did not undergo a processing, slags and fly ash from smelting, and tailing disposals from mineral processing. The latter is under investigation to integrate them into a geographic information system. The mineral processing of the material will be part of the database besides information about geographic location, structure, amount of valuables, and details of ownership of the heap. The tailings disposals are composed of coarse, low grade, interlocked particles from density separation processes, medium size particles, which are tailings from flotation, and fines with liberated valuables, which did not undergo flotation. Therefore mineral processing of these disposals comprises the separation of liberated gangue by classification, beneficiation of locked valuables with density separation, liberation of valuables by grinding, and beneficiation of liberated valuables with flotation. The presented work shows the results concerning the composition of one exemplary heap and results of the classification as well as of the preconcentration tests achieved with material from this heap."
