Russia is one of the largest manufacturers of potash fertilizers in the world. Processing of potash ores basically is carried out by a flotation way. Potash ores of the Verhnekamsky potash deposit contain sylvite (KCl), halite (NaCl) and water insoluble impurity (up to 8 %), presented silicate- carbonate minerals, easily slimed by ore crushing in rod mills. Ore of some deposit sites, developed by ?Uralkali? Co, contains a significant amount of a carnal-lite (KCl.MgCl2.6H2O). Work practice of flotation potash plants has shown, that increase of car-nallite content in ore leads to increase magnesium ion content in a circulated plant brine (saturated salt solution of potassium and sodium chlorides-sylvite brine) and to deterioration of indicators of ore processing. In the Paper we present results of researches of floatability of various size sylvite and influences silicate-carbonate slimes on sylvite flotation in brines with the various magnesium chloride content. It is established, that with increase magnesium chloride content in the brine mainly decreases the flotation of coarse sylvite and amplifies adverse effect of silicate-carbonate slimes on sylvite flotation. In this connection deterioration of potash ore flotation is caused not only decrease sylvite floatability but also strengthening adverse action of water insoluble impurity on potash flotation. It is shown that the application of frothing agents, which render the stronger dispersive action on the colloidal-micellar structures of amine in the salt solution increases the absorption of collector on the sylvite and improves the flotation of sylvite into magnesium the containing salt solutions. The application of an organic depressor to the greatest degree of decreasing the absorption amine on the slimes and to the smallest degree possessing anionic properties proves to be most effective with the flotation carnallite of the containing potassium ores. It is offered the application the frother on a basis of glycol ethers and organic depressor on a basis of urea-formaldehyde resin. Results of industrial tests developed reagent modes for flotation treatment of ores with the raised carnallite content (to 6 %) on ?Uralkali? Co plant have shown that their application has allowed to receive equivalent indicators potash flotations at change of magnesium chloride content in the brine from 0.7 % up to 2.4 % .

The purity of rectorite is only about 70% after preliminary mineral processing, which has limited its application. In this research, different pulp densities, different dispersants, different dispersing methods and purification flow sheets were used to purify rectorite. The results show that it is possible to obtain high pure rectorite clay with the purity above 90% and concentrate yield between 24.9% and 29.4% by the purification process with composite dispersants, stirred mill grinding dispersion and so on. The obtained high pure rectorite can be further used in rectorite nanocomposites.

Commercially available flotation technologies for recovery of mineral fines have remained essentially unchanged for several decades. Recent studies have focused simply on improving mechanical and open column cells. Such studies have explored different control strategies and have aimed to improve reagent selectivity, fine air bubble generation and particle-air contact. However, no study has questioned whether current techniques are the most efficient technology for recovering mineral fines. Given that both mechanical and open column cells have a widely accepted carrying capacity limitation, the lack of extensive research into an alternative technology is surprising. Most recently, open column flotation has become an entrenched technology, and it is undermining the efficient recovery of mineral fines worldwide. An alternative exists. Packed column flotation overcomes the above-stated problems as the technology surpasses the carrying capacity limitation of current means by several-fold and almost always achieves the best performance in many comparative pilot tests and full-scale plant operations. Filling a column with packing plates creates a network of sloped walls capable of supporting a froth bed many times deeper than conventional machines. Having froth up to 75 percent of the total column volume tolerates all feed changes encountered in the plant environment and permits maximum flexibility in concentrate quality control. Furthermore, its scale-up is straightforward by increasing column volume or the number of interconnected small cells. As the air breaks upon rising and is distributed horizontally through packing plates, the air spargers can be replaced with a simple blower, resulting in considerable savings in operation and maintenance costs. Packed flotation technology provides a break-through solution for the separation of fine and ultra-fine minerals. Its simplicity, superior performance, and low cost structure make it an appealing alternative to current technologies and allow greater flexibility in downstream processing. Future industrial applications include a wide variety of metallic and non-metallic ores. This paper focuses on some recent scale-up campaigns for nickel and copper sulphide flotation applications compared directly to conventional equipment.

"The JKMRC researchers have been redeveloping the suite of breakage testing techniques to more realistically align with the breakage environment in comminution equipment. Computational modelling, especially with the DEM, has highlighted the modes of impact and contact, along with the energies of these interactions in a wide range of equipment. This has driven the need to match these modes in laboratory ore characterisation tests. The objective has been to build a continuum of breakage tests and associated models that span the required range of breakage forces and environments. The ore sample is subjected to a sequence of tests covering: abrasion (surface breakage) of angular through to smoothed particles; single particle impact from high energy single impact breakage down to low energy; incremental breakage covering 60 mm down to 50 µm particles; particle strength distribution; and bed breakage over a range of compression and energy input. These tests are suited to multi-component ores with a distribution of strengths. A modelling technique is also being developed to utilise primary breakage for modelling breakage under different types of confinement. This paper draws together these techniques, previously published by the authors, into a coherent whole. The suite of tests is approaching the point where a fixed set of tests can be used to model the performance of a full range of equipment, removing the need to conduct repeat ore characterisation tests for each different piece of equipment incorporated in a circuit design. This path should open up the application of different circuit configurations and novel equipment in comminution circuit design.1 INTRODUCTION Comminution modelling utilizes a wide range of ore characterisation techniques and methods to deal with the range of comminution equipment available for production use. In general, the tests have been designed to correlate with specific pieces of equipment, using calibration factors to provide the link between the small-scale test and industrial-scale performance. The majority of tests focus on estimating the power requirement of process equipment to achieve a desired throughput and grind size. Overall, this approach has achieved acceptable outcomes in the past, but the reality is that equipment sizing suffers from considerable uncertainty, in excess of ±20% is not uncommon. This uncertainty is covered by safety margins and automatic scaling factors in equipment selection. In striving to improve reliability, the industry tends to add more adjustment factors to the tests, and design margin rather than question the basic validity of the testing process. As the tests are often correlated to production equipment via carefully guarded databases, they are also locked into historic operating inefficiency, not providing direction or revealing opportunities to improve production efficiency in comminution equipment or circuits. Safe in the knowledge that they are achieving the expected production based on test work predictions, a site is unlikely to set their sights on reducing specific energy consumption by 10%."

This paper presents the results of pilot scale column flotation applications in the two different copper concentrators in Turkey. The Kure Copper Plant is located in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. In Kure, a very fine grinding requirement for an adequate level of liberation makes a successful flotation difficult and consequently the final concentrate can hardly assay above 16% Cu Column flotation tests were conducted at the plant site using two different column types The experiments proved that the grade of the concentrate could be increased from about 14% Cu to 25-26% Cu. Murgul Cakmakkaya Copper Concentrator is the largest copper concentrator in Turkey. Although concentrate production capacity is around 170,000 tons annually with 22-23% Cu content, this figure tends to be much lower than that. In Murgul a Turbo Column of Multotec Company of South Africa was employed. As a result of systematic column flotation tests, the grade of the concentrate was increased from 20.3% Cu to 28.7% Cu.

Many flotation kinetics models have been studied in the literature. Their applicability was extensively investigated and argued in detail. However, model selection criteria were not adequately discussed from the statistical points of view. In this investigation, the kinetic behavior of a complex copper sulfide ore was studied in a mechanical Denver flotation cell focusing on flotation kinetics of chalcopyrite, pyrite and molybdenite. Different flotation kinetics models including nine common empirical models and four mathematical models namely Hill, Chapman (Sigmodial function), single rectangular (Hyperbola equation) and exponential were applied to the experimental data. In addition to assessment of the goodness of fit criterion for each model, a factor of model complexity was considered using information criteria (IC) (i.e. Bayesian information (BIC), low of iterated logarithm (LILC) and Akaike information (AIC) indices). The obtained results showed that the IC indices could simply manifest the best-fitted model to the experimental data. Whereas, the coefficient of determination values (R2) were relatively same for all models. By taking the R2 and model complexity criteria into account, the exponential model was chosen as the best representative mathematical model to demonstrate chalcopyrite kinetic behavior. However, Chapman model was selected as the best one for the flotation of pyrite and molybdenite. In case of the common first-order flotation kinetics models, fast and slow flotation kinetic model (Kelsall) was reasonably fitted the best to the given data of chalcopyrite. However, the gas/solid kinetics adsorption model was chosen as the best-fitted one for pyrite and molybdenite. Furthermore, it was found that mathematical models represent better results in association with flotation kinetic behavior of chalcopyrite, pyrite and molybdenite due to the consideration of more parameters in modeling. Finally, it was concluded that the IC indices must be applied to the process of model selection due to consideration of goodness of fit, complexity of a model and model consistency.

Despite increasing demand, the supply of silver is limited by its inadequate recovery from ores. Due to its scarcity in nature, its high ore variability and complex mineralogy of current silver deposits, its recovery by mineral froth flotation presents a real challenge for process engineers. A silver ore often contains significant amounts of five to ten different silver minerals and knowledge of the mineralogy is a necessary precursor to flotation testing. In this work, a complex silver ore was treated by using batch laboratory flotation, in an effort to find the best experimental conditions to obtain the optimal silver recovery. Mineralogical characterization of feed samples was conducted using a combination of tools, namely the mineral liberation analyzer (MLA) and inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), which indicated that most of the silver occurred as ?invisible? silver in pyrite. The pyrite assay of the ore was approximately 4%. The ore was processed in two flotation stages. The first stage, sulphide flotation, aimed to collect a sulphide mineral rich concentrate; then a non-sulphide flotation stage was performed by adding sodium sulphide and collectors to the remaining material in the cell, with the objective of obtaining a pyrite rich concentrate. To reach the target recovery of silver from this ore, various variables were altered. In the first stage: mixed collectors, activators, dispersants, and mainstream inert grinding were assessed. In the second stage, the conditions for sulphidization and subsequent flotation were both investigated. From the grade recovery curves for silver and sulphur it was possible to observe a similar metallurgical behavior for both elements, supporting the results given by the mineralogical characterization. The recycling schemes of copper mineral to a copper raw ore produced in China is investigated in this paper, of which is aimed at copper concentrate‘s grade is over 26.00% and recovery is over 90.00%. The primary copper mineral the raw ore is chalcopyrite and the main gangue minerals are quartz, orthoclase, albite, clinochlore and phlogopite. There are four useful metal elements contained in the copper raw ore, which are Cu, Pb, Zn, Au and Ag, and the grade of each is 3.75%, 0.01%, 0.11%, 0.31 and 483.5 g/t. Two floating recycling schemes and its corresponding flotation reagent system were determined. The results show that calcium oxide, sodium carbonate and sodium sulphide were used as regulators, sodium n-butylxanthate was used as collector and terpenic oil was used as frother in two floating recycling schemes are effective. The open-circuit test’s results show that the copper mineral contained in raw ore can be effective collected, and both concentrates gotten through two schemes are up to grade.

The preparation technological conditions and regeneration method of two novel granulated adsorbing materials of rectorite/fly ash composite (Material 1) and rectorite/water quenched - slag composite (Material 2) and the use of them to remove heavy metals from copper smelting plant wastewater have been studied. The experimental results showed that under the preparation conditions with the ratio of rectorite to fly ash or water - quenched slag of 1:1, the amount of the additive (Industrial Starch, IS) of 15% (Material 1) or 10% (Material 2), the addition of 50% water, and the calcination temperature of 500? (Material 1) or 400? (Material 2), the efficiency of heavy metal removal with the granulated materials was the best, whereas the ratio of disintegration loss was the lowest. Under the treatment conditions of natural pH, and with the addition of the granulated materials of 0.07g/cm3 (Material 1) or 0.05g/cm3 (Material 2), a reaction time of 60 minutes (Material 1) or 40 minutes (Material 2), and the adsorption temperature of 25?, the efficiency for the granulated materials to remove Cu2+Pb2+Zn2+Cd2+ and Ni2+ from the copper smelting plant wastewater was 98.9, 97.5, 96.7, 90.2, and 79.1, (Material 1) or 98.2, 96.3, 78.6, 86.2, and 64.2, (Material 2), respectively, and the quality indexes of the wastewater after treatment conformed with the first level of integrated wastewater discharge standard (GB8978-1996). When the adsorption of heavy metal ions on the surface attained saturation the granulated materials could be regenerated by washing with 1 mol/L sodium chloride (NaCl) solution and still with quite good heavy metal removal efficiency. The granulated adsorbing materials had the advantages of high efficiency of wastewater treatment, easy method of solid-liquid separation and regeneration, and a broad prospect of applications.

"More complex ore comminution and concentration operations have found increasing application in the mining industry due to lower grades and higher complexity of the available ores. An alternative to coping with the higher capital and operating costs of ore processing plants is the use of pre-concentration stages. They allow removing a significant mass of material with little or no content of the relevant mineral before the ore is fed into the processing plant, with the consequent reduction in the mass to be processed in downstream operations. Significant benefits arise out of the use of pre-concentration, such as higher contained metal output without the need to increase the grinding or flotation capacity, and longer mine life. The grade of marginal ores could be enhanced to a level that would make their exploration economically feasible, which would result in increasing exploitable reserves. Nevertheless, few studies to date have assessed the resulting impacts on ore grinding energy consumption and wear after the gangue is removed through pre-concentration operations. This study evaluated the energy consumption and wear of grinding circuits in Brazilian mining operations in which the feed has gone through a pre-concentration stage. Such assessment was based on different samples of sulfide and oxide ores. Laboratory tests were carried out to investigate the power consumption and wear of grinding circuits with and without a pre-concentration stage. Laboratory test results were used to simulate industrial grinding circuits based on both alternatives and illustrate the environmental and economic benefits of each one.INTRODUCTION Increasingly complex ore concentration operations in several stages have found broadening application in recent years in view of lower grades and higher complexity of the available ores. An alternative to coping with the higher capital and operating costs of ore processing plants is the use of pre-concentration stages. Different ore processing technologies can be used for that purpose, such as magnetic separation, density segregation, and separation methods based on high-tech sensors (ore sorting). Currently, the most common methods are gravimetric processes, in view of their low cost, particularly jigging and dense medium separation methods, such as the drum and cone separators manufactured by Western Machinery Company, Teska, Drewboy, Norwalt, Dynawhirlpool and Tri-flo, and dense medium cyclones (CAMPOS; LUZ; BRAGA, 2010). The use of dry ore sorters has also grown significantly in recent years (Jose Neto et al. 2017). The selection of the separator type depends essentially on the ore particle size, required flows, and operating density ranges. All these methods may even be used after preferential blasting in mining (Grigg & Delemontex, 2015)."

Reverse flotation process tests were conducted for marine sedimentary silicon-calcium phosphate ore in this research. The research findings showed that by adding antifoamer, a concentrate with P2O5 32.36%, SiO2 10.69%, MgO 0.67% was obtained, with recovery of P2O5 being 88.12%. Such is a satisfying result, when compared with the original mineralogical component of P2O5 26.64%, SiO2 11.51% and MgO 3.36%. When using antifoamer, the SiO2 grade of the concentrate increased 0.55%, the MgO grade decreased 0.64%, while P2O5 recovery increased 2.69% compared by adding no antifoamer. Adding antifoamer is favorable to increase the grade and recovery of P2O5. Therefore, antifoamer is necessary. Tests of synergistic reaction of antifomer indicate that the appropriate consumption of the antifoamer is 275g/t CY and 1Kg/t TWF. High precision on-line particle size distribution measurement of mineral slurries has recently be-come available. It provides new tools for the development of monitoring and optimization methods for mineral grinding and separation circuits. The paper presents the development work at the Kemi chromite concentrator plant of Outokumpu Tornio Works in Northern Finland. The Kemi concentrator processes annually 1.2 Mt of chromium ore. The products are upgraded lumpy ore and metallurgical grade concentrate. The concentrate is produced using gravity separation methods, preceded by a rod mill - ball mill grinding stage. The separation process performance is strongly dependent on the particle size distribution of the grinding product at the Kemi plant. Particle size distribution has a significant effect on the concentrate grade and recovery. Currently a new laser diffraction based on-line particle size analyser is used for monitoring the grinding product. The analyser system allows the measurement of the whole cumulative particle size distribution simultaneously. It provides a wealth of new measurement information for process control. A monitoring and optimization scheme for grinding and gravity separation based on the particle size information is presented. The goal is to minimize the production of fine slime, and subsequently to improve the concentrate quality and minimize chromite recovery losses. Data-based recursively identified linear PLS process models are developed for optimization purposes. The preliminary results of the monitoring system operation in on-line use are presented.

Processing of phosphate ore sample was investigated for increasing phosphate content and reduction of its gangue minerals such as carbonates and silicates. Experimental designs were per-formed using Taguchi method. Different flotation methods were investigated for Moundon phosphate ore sample and three methods were used as follow: direct cellophane flotation, reverse calcite flotation and reverse quartz flotation. Because of the sensitivity of cellophane flotation to slime content, prior desliming was carried out before the experiments. Direct flotation experiments carried out and a concentrate contained 23.80% P2O5, 6.88% SiO2 and 72.33% recovery were produced. The achieved P2O5 content in the produced concentrate from reverse flotation of calcite was 26.44% and the recovery was 82.56%. The concentrate products obtained at optimum conditions by direct flotation of phosphate and indirect flotation of calcite were subjected to indirect flotation of calcite and direct flotation of appetite and final concentrates with P2O5 grade of the order of 24.19% and 26.96% were obtained, respectively. It was concluded that one stage direct flotation is unavoidable to achieve a product with low SiO2 content.

Minerals in coals cause operational problems in various coal utilization technology as well as act as diluents towards its heat value. Indian coals contain higher percentage of mineral matter compared to foreign coals due to its formation through drift origin. Efficient utilization of high ash coal in environment friendly manner is the driving force for the development of clean coal technology. Coal gasification offers practical means meeting stringent environment controlled parameters for producing power, chemicals, liquid fuels and clean energy on a single platform. It is well accepted that gasification technology has sufficient potential for sustainable development of clean coal technology. Gasification reactivity depends on the coal properties and operational parameters as well as minerals present in coal. Minerals not only create operational problems but on the other side also catalyze the gasification and combustion reaction. Therefore to understand the effect of minerals on the gasification reactivity, present paper proposes to study the variation of gasification reactivity with various gravity cuts such as, 1.4-1.5; 1.6-1.7; and 1.8-1.9 of a selected coal. Gasification reactivity has been studied by thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA) using CO2 as gasifying agent. Surface properties such as, true density, apparent density, porosity, surface area of different gravity cut samples have also been measured to find out the effect of gravity separation on gasification reactivity. Hydrofluoric acid (HF) is traditionally used in plant operation to separate feldspars from quartz. It acts during the conditioning step as a pH regulator and an activating agent providing an excellent selectivity. However, a corrosive chemical environment and the ecological impacts from the potential fluoride ion contamination are limiting factors to use this chemical agent at an industrial scale. Investigations of the amine-feldspar interactions in the absence and presence of non-linear long-chain alcohols were carried out on two ore samples. The presence of alcohol molecules led to form a closed packed layer only on the surface of feldspars. The highest order and packing at the feldspar surface were observed with a particular alkyl chain structure as Guerbert alcohols. A new flotation process was developed and tested at both lab and pilot scales on different feldspar ores. The Guerbert alcohols allow to perform a feldspar concentrate with very low content in quartz (2.3-3.5 %) and feldspars recovery from 78 to 81 % while the aliphatic isoalcohols show a more higher recovery level (88-89 %). New HF-free process is strongly dependent on the pH range (1.7-2.5) and sulphuric acid consumption during conditioning steps. Optimal amine/alcohol weight ratio is ranged between 0.8 and 1.0. The values below 0.8 decrease strongly the flotation selectivity and the quartz recovery within the feldspar concentrates is higher than that occurs with HF.

Flotation of halite?new, recently begun to be developed method of processing water-soluble minerals. In the paper the results of studies of the new directions of the application of halite flotation are represented. Studies on the flotation separation of halite and sylvite in the salt solutions of different composition, showed the possibility of the halite flotation realization not only in the carnallite brine (content of salts: MgCl2 25.5% ~ 26.0 %, chlorides of potassium and sodium 5.5% ~ 6.0%), but in the sylvinite brine, which contains 10.5% ~ 10.8% KCl and 20.5% ~ 21% NaCl. On the basis obtained results are carried out experiences on the halite flotation from samples of the converted products of sylvinite ores by flotation method and by the method of the electrostatic separation. It is shown that in all cases it is possible to accomplish effective and selective recovery of halite. The halite recovery into the foam product of flotation makes 80% ~ 90% with an increase in the content of KCl in the cell product of flotation in comparison with a composition of flotation feed: - from the product after the electrostatic separation of ore ? from 76% KCl to 95% ~ 97% KCl; - from the small fraction of ore (- 0.25 + 0 mm) ? from 30% KCl to 60% ~ 64% KCl; - from middlings (intermediate products) of sylvite flotation from 16% ~ 31% KCl to 45% ~ 80% KCl. An increase in the molecular weight of alkylmorpholines increases the selectivity of the flotation separation of halite and sylvite. Halite recovery from small size fraction of ore or/and middling of sylvite flotation with the sub-sequent joint filtration halite product and tails of sylvite flotation allows to reduce considerably expenses for manufacture potash chloride from Pilot-industrial tests for the first time confirmed the possibility of the effective halite flotation in the saturated solutions of chlorides of potassium and sodium (sylvinite brine).

"There are increasingly stricter environmental regulations imposed for use of cyanide leaching for the extraction of gold from ores. Alternative lixiviants to cyanide, preferably with low toxicity, have been extensively studied. Thiosulphate has emerged as one of the most suitable alternative leaching agent in place of cyanide due to its low toxicity and technical attributes e.g. fast leaching kinetics, high gold extractions from carbonaceous ores in particular. High solubility of most copper minerals in cyanide solutions results in low gold extractions due to excessively high consumption of cyanide. In contrast, low reactivity of copper minerals in thiosulphate solutions makes thiosulphate leaching potentially suitable alternative for treatment Cu-bearing gold ores. The extraction of gold/silver from a copper-bearing pyritic gold concentrate (62 g/t Au, 110 g/t Ag and 0.3% Cu) in thiosulphate solutions was investigated in this study. The concentrate is composed of predominantly quartz (25%) and pyrite (32.7%) as well as sphalerite (5.37%), galena (2.12%) and anglesite (1.13%). Other minor minerals are arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, covellite and bournonite. Previous studies by the authors indicated that the concentrate did not respond well to cyanide leaching (i.e. 45-46% Au/Ag at 1 g/L NaCN). The effects of concentration of ammonia (0.2-1.5 M NH3), thiosulphate (0.1-0.75 M S2O3) and copper (0-20 mM CuSO4) on the extraction of gold and silver over 8 h. was investigated. Increasing the concentration of thiosulphate and ammonia substantially improved the rate and extent of gold leaching while high copper levels produced an adverse effect particularly at low concentration of thiosulphate (i.e. 0.1 M). Complete extraction of gold was achieved under suitable conditions. In contrast to gold, silver extractions remained consistently at low levels (i.e. 28%). These findings demonstrated that thiosulphate leaching could be used to achieve acceptable levels of gold extraction from the copper-bearing pyritic gold concentrate."

"The most common comminution testing methods and the associated analytical procedures provide average values and do not capture the variability in breakage behaviour of ore particles. Therefore, plant designs and process performance predictions use only average values; hence, the inherent variability that exists within an ore domain translates into variation in process performance. This paper discusses the drawbacks of using the average approach to impact comminution testing and plant design. It considers breakage intensity from a single-particle testing perspective. To clearly delineate breakage behaviour of each broken particle, an experimental technique using the JK Drop Weight Tester (JKDWT) has been developed by which actual comminution energy per particle and breakage intensities were measured directly. Four different ore types in ranges of -45+37.5mm and -22.4+19mm were tested at three energy levels of 0.1, 0.25, 0.5 kWh/t and six energy levels of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 4.0 kWh/t, respectively. Sieved results of individual particles, notionally, t5, t10 and t50 showed the presence of large variability in their breakage behaviour, which was not captured by the standard JK impact breakage testing approach. In addition, the original JKMRC model is modified by introducing a third parameter, ‘Emint10’ which describes the minimum energy required to produce the minimum percent t10 for a given ore type and its significance is tested statistically. These results suggest that the analysis of breakage variability may lead to more robust plant designs. Perhaps, the most useful insight from this work is to extend single particle breakage model developed by JKMRC to a comminution percentile envelope which may provide a more detailed picture of ore breakage variability. The degree of heterogeneity in rock affects its breakage characteristics where these variations increase local differential strain and stress within a stressed rock (Scholz, 1968) and it depends on many factors such as rock genesis, alterations, etc. One important aspect of this heterogeneous feature is presence of a large amount of experimental scatter in rock breakage results when considered from a quantitative perspective (Bieniawski, 1967; Liu, Roquete, Kou, & Lindqvist, 2004)."

Currently, recycling technologies use relatively homogeneous plastics because hand-sorting waste feed is too expensive. Many promising technologies for separating mixed thermoplastics are being investigated, but they are still uneconomical and unreliable. Burning plastics for recycling is not used because of poisonous gases released when their burning. PET and PVC cannot be separated using conventional gravity separation techniques because their specific gravities overlap; PET density changes from 1.33 g/cc to 1.37 g/cc and PVC density is between 1.32 g/cc and 1.37 g/cc. For this reason, plastic recycling needs new techniques. Among these techniques froth flotation, also used in mineral processing, can be useful for its cost and simplicity. In this method, a plastic is selected from mixture, tried to regain its natural property, hydrophobicity. In this study the experiments were applied by using plasticizer reagents to make the selected plastics hydrophobic and us-ing NaOH to render the other hydrophilic. Post-consumed PET and PVC are evaluated by concerning the effects of selected parameters (particle size, concentration of plasticizer reagent, amount of NaOH, conditioning time and the effect of conditioning temperature). At the end of the experiments, optimum parameters for selective flotation of PET from PVC was found as particle size of -4.76 + 3.36 mm, NaOH amount of 30 kg/t, conditioning temperature of 75°C, conditioning time of 30 minutes, reagent amount of 300 mg/L. Consequently, PET was re-covered with 99.7% purity and 57% efficiency.

Effects due to some metal cations, such as Ca2+, Mg2+,Fe2+, Fe3+, Cu+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Al3+ etc., which are produced in the pulp when the complicated ore is dipped in the deioned water, on the flotation of chalcopyrite and galena with the isopropyl thionocarbamate as collector have been studied. It is found that chalcopyrite floatability is not influenced by these cations, and the cations can be di-vided into three types according to their effects on the purified galena?s floatability with the same conditions, as activator such as Cu+; as depressant such as Al3+, Fe3+, Fe2+, Zn2+ and Cu2+ , unaffective such as Mg2+ and Ca2+.
