IT has given me great pleasure to read, in the papers recently published by this Society, the discussions on the subject of Technical Education, which were developed at the joint meeting held at the Franklin Institute in June, 1876; and since it was impossible for me to be present, I desire to improve this my first opportunity of adding the weight of my testimony and experience to what has been so ably presented by others. It is a subject about which the people need to be kept agitated, that their views may expand with the demands made for a higher and more thorough education. It is the public at large, the capitalist, the manufacturer, and the laborer, who are to be benefited more or less by this elevation of the standard of our professional schools, and it is but just, therefore, that the schools should look to them for the means with which to accomplish so desirable an object. It is no doubt to the interest of a metallurgist to employ a skilled laborer who will prevent waste by properly proportioning his materials ; by regulating the supplies of air and fuel ; by arranging his plant in the most economical manner, and by disposing of his products to the greatest advantage. The engineer is benefited by selecting for an assistant a person able to determine the values of his factors of safety for the same materials in different forms and positions, avoiding expensive suits for damages and cost of reconstruction; he should be able to so locate a road as best to fulfil the requirements of a through traffic, and yet develop local industries. But I need not multiply instances to show what all will readily concede, viz.: the advantages of a theoretical education ; that was fully demonstrated at the previous special meeting, but it is still an open question whether the practical instruction should precede, accompany, or follow the theory.

A planar Gunn oscillator was developed for use in a monolithic microwave integrated circuit. The device was designed to operate in the frequency range of 20 to 30 GHz with a continuous wave output. Selective epitaxial deposition was used to form the n+n-n+ device structure in (111)-B semi-insuluting GaAs. The active n- region was about 5 µ thick and was doped to about 2 x 1015 electrons per cu cm by the reactor background. The mobility was -5000 sq cm v-1 sec-1. The n+ epitaxial deposits were doped to 1 x 10" electrons per cu cm using S2Cl2. Planarity of the three DURING the past few years, new microwave devices in discrete form have been developed utilizing GaAs. The next logical step is to combine these devices in a successive deposits was quite good; total overgrowth was less than 1 µ. Metal ohmic contacts were applied to the n+ or n- regions using a Ag-In-Ge alloy. The n+n-n+ devices had symmetric IV characteristics and could be operated C. W. for both directions of device bias. Metal ohmic contacts made directly to the n-region always Produced asymmetric devices. C. W. operation was obtained over the 22 to 28 GHz frequency range. The best performance obtained was 1.5 mw C. LV. output at 28 GHz. microwave integrated circuit. A potential application would be a radar receiver operating in the millimeter wavelength region. The key component in such an integrated circuit is a microwave oscillator, recently described by Gunn.1, 2 Under the influence of a large electric field, high-resistivity GaAs exhibits a bulk negative resistance, and high-frequency current oscillations result. THE incandescent gas mantle is of considerable interest from the standpoint of temperature measurement because it presents a series of apparent contradictions to the established laws of radiation on which are based some of our best methods of temperature determination. One of these contradictions is that the mantle of least brightness (of the commercial thoria-ceria group) is the one having the highest temperature; this, though explicable without any violation of radiation laws, was long a stumbling block to the understanding of the performance of the mantle. Another anomaly is that the energy radiated by the mantle decreases with the rise of temperature, thus apparently invalidating total radiation methods of pyrometry, based on the fourth-power law. The discussion of methods of measuring mantle temperature which follows, is largely taken from an extensive study of the physics of the Welsbach mantle. 1 The incandescent gas mantle consists of a skeleton of refractory oxide of very light weight and open structure, formed by the ignition of a cotton or silk "stocking" previously thoroughly impregnated with salts of certain rare earths. The mantle of commerce is a mixture of approximately 99 parts of thorium oxide with 1 part of cerium oxide. This mixture, discovered largely by accident, gives luminous radiation many times greater than that from either of the constituents taken alone. It is customary to speak of the thoria as the "base" and the ceria as the "colorant," and the commercial mantle represents one of a family in which an oxide of low emissive power is employed as a base, which will assume a high temperature, while a small amount of some other oxide of high visible emissive power is added, which will reduce the temperature of the mantle but little. This is, in general, the most efficient- way, from the standpoint of visible emission, to utilize a substance of high emissive power in the visible spectrum. ALUMINUM and its alloys have been the subject of much investigation, during recent years, in the course of which the principal features of the constitution of most of the binary alloy systems with aluminum have been determined. Except in the case of a few metals-silicon, bismuth, cadmium, lead, zinc, and tin-an aluminum-rich compound is formed in each binary system, which forms a eutectic with the aluminum or its solid solution with this compound. Thus such compounds as FeAl3, CuAl2, Mg4Al3, and NiAl3 are formed, which are found in aluminum-rich alloys of their respective series as eutectics with the aluminum solid solution. These compounds are, in all cases, hard and brittle and their presence affects profoundly the physical properties of the alloys in which they occur. Within the zinc-aluminum system a compound, Al2Zn3, is formed that decomposes at lower temperatures. Silicon and tin each form a simple eutectiferous series with aluminum; bismuth, lead, and cadmium are only partly miscible in the liquid state with it. MCMORRIS III INTRODUCTION In the early days of coarse-coal treatment by the dense-medium process in Europe, loess was one of the materials used for medium solids. Newly developed cyclones were used to reclaim and thicken the loess suspension. On occasion, when the cyclone thickener at the Maurits mine in the Nether- lands plugged, the overflow was found to be filled with clean coal free of impurity. From this observation stemmed the concept of the cyclone as a cleaning device. Development took place during World War I1 in the lab- oratory of the Dutch State Mines under the direction of M. G. Driessen. A 15 tph (13.6 mt) pilot plant was in operation in the laboratory by 1945, when, in September, Driessen made the first public disclosure of the process in a paper presented to the Institute of fie1 in London. Outlook for the district......................344 Introduction In an earlier report on the Sumpter quadrangle1 it was briefly stated that the quartz lodes of that region might be separated into several groups or belts on the basis of the kind and abundance of the minerals of which they are composed, and that these belts were disposed as areal zones around the principal intrusive mass of the region. When the opportunity to revisit the region was offered in 1929, as a result of a cooperative agreement between the State Mining Board of Oregon and the United States Geological Survey, it seemed advisable to pay particular attention to this feature of the lodes, in the hope that if the idea of zonal relations was confirmed it might serve as a guide in exploitation.

Commercially hot-rolled low-carbon steel strip may have one of two basic types of orientation texture, depending upon the amount of a iron which was present during the finishing passes. The changes in these textures with varying amounts of cold reduction up to 95 pct have been determined for the sheet surface plane and for parallel planes down to the mid-plane. The development of cold reduction textures has been reassessed on the basis of (200), (222). and (110) stereographic pole figures and pole density or inverse pole figure values. In agreement with the literature, it is shown that the textures can be described in terms of partial fiber textures but alternative descriptions are given for one of the fiber textures, in order to more closely correlate with experimental data. One partial fiber texture consists of orientations of the type (hkk)[011] extending from (100)[011] to {322}(011) in agreement with the literature. At moderate amounts of cold reduction, a second partial fiber texture forms with a <331> fiber axis inclined 20 deg to the sheet normal and a range of orientations centered on one close to (1 11)[112] and reaching to (232)[101] or (322)[011]. An alternative description involves a (111) fiber axis parallel to the sheet normal but capable of rotation about the rolling direction with rotation about the fiber axis. ORIENTATIONS developed in low-carbon steel strip after cold reduction are of commercial importance because they control, in part, the final preferred orientations after subsequent annealing. The method of control however is not understood completely. Some preliminary work indicated that the cold-reduced orientations and the subsequent annealing textures of commercial low-carbon steel were dependent on the orientations present in the material before cold reduction, that is, those present in the hot-rolled strip but, to date, the effects of initial orientations have not been extensively investigated. For this reason, much of the information given in the literature on development of preferred orientation is difficult to assess as details of initial texture and processing conditions are often inadequate or are altered by a subsequent heat treatment such as normalizing.&apos; It is known2 that anomalous results for near surface orientations may be obtained if lubrication during cold rolling is not adequate but whether lubricant was used during the experiments has not always been given, nor has the exact depth below the surface at which determinations have been made. A comprehensive review of cold rolling textures has been made recently by Dillamore and Roberts&apos; and more restricted recent reviews are due to stickels4 and Abe.5 Based largely on the experimental work of Bennewitz,1 reviewers have accepted that the preferred orientations produced on cold reducing low-carbon steel can be described in terms of two partial fiber textures as follows: Partial Fiber Texture A which has a (011) direction in the rolling direction and includes orientations within the spread from (211)[011] through (100)[Oll] to (211)[011.]; there is some controversy as to whether it extends as far as the orientation (111)[011]. As Dillamore6 has observed, the extent of this partial fiber texture depends on the intensity levels selected. Partial Fiber -texture B which has a (011) direction located 60 den from the rolling direction in the plane containing the rolling direction and the sheet normal. There are two directions which satisfy these conditions and orientations in this partial fiber texture extend from (21l)[0ll] through (554)[225] to (121)[101]. The orientations {211}(011) are members of both partial fiber textures A and B and it can be noted that a variant of {554)<225> is within 6 deg of a variant of {111}(112). Barrett7 had postulated earlier that, in addition to orientations which would fall into partial fiber texture A, a true fiber texture with a (111) direction in the sheet normal was present after heavy cold reduction. This fiber texture would include orientations such as {111}(011) and {111}(112). Later investigators, notably Bennewitz,&apos; have discounted this, mostly on the ground that the partial fiber textures A and B, as described above, contain all the strong orientations that have been observed. However in other work it has been reported2 that (222) pole density or inverse pole figure values show a continuing increase with increasing reduction by cold rolling and give values considerably greater than for any other low indices plane. Thus it could be inferred that a (111) fiber texture as described by Barrett would be one which becomes more dominant with increasing cold reduction, whereas Bennewitz&apos; concluded that components such as {554)(225) in partial fiber texture B began to decrease in intensity at high reductions. Following Bennewitz, one would expect a decreasing (222) pole density value (parallel to the sheet normal) with increasing cold reduction. Because fiber textures consist of grains with a range of orientations that have one axis in common, it has been inferred that during deformation the crystal orientations rotate about the fiber axis&apos;74 and that the orientations of crystals that at one stage belong to one fiber texture can rotate on further cold reduction into the other fiber texture through an orientation in which the two fiber textures intersect.&apos; For example,

SINCE the year 1643, when the first blast furnace in America for treating iron ore was built at Saugus, Mass., out of mica schist quarried in the neighboring district, the procurement of a suitable refractory for furnace lining has been a problem of concern to the operators of furnaces. The stacks built of mica schist continued to smelt iron ore until about 1836, when, according to F. H. Norton, the first firebrick were produced1, at Queens Run, Pa. Other writers speak of brick having been molded and burned in Massachusetts about the year 1834. In 1841, Andrew Russell began to produce medium refractory plastic clay brick near East Liverpool, Ohio, that were used for lining blast furnaces1. The well-known Kentucky clay-producing district was not opened up until the year 1871, but since then it has produced a large percentage of the linings for iron blast furnaces. While some strides have been made by the refractories industry during the 100 years that have passed since the first firebrick were produced, it has been only during the last two decades that any real progress has been made towards bettering the product, even though the method of production had improved. Perhaps the fault lies with the user of the brick rather than with the producer, for not sooner demanding a supe-rior product. During the past 15 years the tonnage produced per lining has increased from 500,000 gross tons to 1,000,000 gross tons, and now some furnaces are producing 1,600,000 gross tons and better on a single lining. It is true that enlarged capacity of furnaces and improved practice have accounted for some of this increase in tonnage, nevertheless better quality in firebrick must be given credit for its share. However, we are not yet ready to say that we have reached a maximum life of furnace lining. The rates of sulfurization and desulfurization of calcium aluminate, silicate, and ferrite melts by CO + CO2 + SO2 mixtures at 1550°C are reported. It is shown that for melts 10 to 15 mm deep transport of sulfide ions within the melt controls the rate of sulfur transfer. The rate data from shallow melts, i.e., 1 to 4 mm deep, have been analyzed on the basis of a diffusion or a reaction controlled process and indications are that the both processes may play a part in controlling the rate of sulfur reaction. The rates of desulfurization of silicate XVEACTION equilibria between metals, metal oxides, and gases have received considerable attention in recent years. However, the understanding of and aluminate melts increase with increasing PCO2/PCO ratio in the gas stream, the effect being most marked for aluminate melts. The sulfide equilibrium data obtained from the present work are shown to be in accord with the results of previous studies. It is shown that carbon dioxide has a measurable solubility in silicate, aluminate, and ferrite melts. Consideration is given to the partial equilibria which control the directions and the rates of reactions occurring simultaneously in complex heterogeneous systems. the kinetics of heterogeneous reactions, particularly those occurring at elevated temperatures has not been improved appreciably. Almost all the metallurgical reactions occur in heterogeneous systems involving two or more phases. Although in many authoritative text books and original Papers the basic principles concerning the kinetics of heterogeneous reactions are clearly underlined, they are seldom used to the best advantage in kinetic studies, particularly those involving the metallurgical reac-

WHILE Mr. Fahrenwald has been working on the fundamentals of ore-dressing, in Idaho, the Northwest Experiment Station of the U. S. Bureau of Mines, in cooperation with the University of Washington, has been studying the corresponding fundamentals for the closely-allied subject of coal-washing. In this work many of the principles outlined in Mr. Fahrenwald&apos;s paper have been touched on, one important exception being that phase of his studies where conditions were approximated between those existing on a table and those existing in a hindered-settling classifier. During the past three years this work has been given over almost exclusively to a study of coal-tabling to devise better methods of cleaning fine sizes of coal, particularly the coals of the Northwest, which are very difficult to wash. One important result of this study thus far has been the development of a satisfactory hindered-settling coal classifier, now in use in several commercial plants. Recently table stratifica-tion has been the subject for study. This latter phase of the work with coal,. as well as the earlier portion dealing with hindered-settling classification, has in a measure paralleled Mr. Fahrenwald&apos;s work with ore. Without going into details about the results of the coal experiments, I shall merely say that, from a quali-tative standpoint, they are, in general, concordant with Mr. Fahrenwald&apos;s, but that from a quantitative stand-point the results, particularly those with, table strati-fication, are somewhat different. These differences may disappear as the work progresses-Mr. Fahrenwald is further ahead with his experiments than we are at the Northwest Station-but if not, the disparity would not be surprising, and indeed would be what one might reasonably expect when investigators work on two very dissimilar materials and use different apparatus and methods of study. However, this- mention of our coal-washing experiments is made only in passing. A principle of general application that may be estab-lished from Mr. Fahrenwald&apos;s paper is that different types of stratification should be used in successive&apos; gravity-concentration processes to. obtain best results.

ABOUT four years ago the writer proposed a revision of the correlation of the Huronian formations in Michigan, and noted the bearing of the question on the correlations of the Huronian rocks in Wisconsin and Minnesota.1 Dr. C. K. Leith opposed this revision and argued for the retention of the correlations of the United States Geological Survey, published in 1911,2 for which he and Dr. Van Hise were mainly responsible. As late as June, 1917, Harder and Johnson, following Leith, thought it "premature to change radically a correlation based on years of careful field work."3 The work of Wolff on the Mesabi and Cuyuna Ranges, of Hotchkiss on the Gogebic Range (unpublished), and of the writer and assistants on the Michigan ranges, together with data developed by exploratory and mining operations, has introduced so many pew facts not recognized in the scheme of the U. S. Geological Survey that the correlations of 1911 must be considered, in some important respects, obsolete. Indeed new data are accumulating so rapidly that any classification, which for the moment may seem best to explain the facts, is almost immediately modified or refined by further observations. The problem of Huronian correlations is difficult, but interesting and important. With the aid of fossils, stratigraphers of the post-Algonkian formations have been able to show that slight disconformities may separate strata of vastly different ages, and that within physically conformable strata may be concealed a hiatus of great magnitude. Changes in coke hardness affect the working of the blast furnace, for soft coke is an obstacle to proper furnace operation. Soft coke is due to a low hydrogen-oxygen ratio in the coal charged; increasing this ratio increases the hardness of the coke. The best means of determining the hardness of coke is the combined tumbler and ball-mill. What is Good Coke? It is not always appreciated that the correct answer may be such a reliable forecast to the physical condition of the blast furnace, and incidentally its entire operation, that among the ordinary variations in other raw materials and also in operating conditions, it assumes a position of primary significance. Inasmuch as coke forms two-thirds of the total bulk of material charged, this assertion will not seem exaggerated, and in the subsequent discussion its applicability will be presented. Coke is the ideal blast-furnace fuel because it is strong and hard enough to resist the crushing and grinding effects of the furnace burden, and its porosity allows the ready passage of gas upward through the charge, and rapid combustion before the tuyeres. Coke deprived of its strength and with a cell structure physically frail and chemically susceptible to solution by carbon dioxide has its chief asset eliminated. When the melting zones are approached the fluid cinder trickling toward the hearth will envelope the small pieces of coke and form a sticky mass that will retard the free passage of gas. Blast pressure will then rise, driving will slow up and fragments of coke will lie inert before the tuyeres, rendered practically incombustible by their slaggy envelop. It is believed also that coke messes at cast are attributable to quantities of such coke floating unburned in the hearth. The year 1928 has been marked by scattered but considerable wildcat drilling considering the overproduction prevalent in the oil industry. This wildcatting has resulted in the discovery of oil in one interior salt dome, several small fields producing from serpentine, Taylor marl, and Austin chalk, and two new fields producing from the Edwards limestone, one of which in the Bruner or Salt Flat area of Caldwell County promises to be of major importance if not quite as large as the Luling field. Fig. 1 shows production by fields for 1928, compared in the case of the older fields, with that for 1927. New Production From Salt Domes Boggy Creek Dome This salt dome was discovered in 1927 by core drilling and deep tests recommended on the evidence of surface geology. A large block of acreage controlled by the Humble Oil & Refining Co. covers the dome. Since the discovery of the deep-lying salt plug and oil on the flank of this dome in 1927, development has proceeded slowly. Since most of the acreage is controlled in a large block by one company there has been no intensive competitive drilling. Approximately 8 producers and 16 dry holes have been drilled. Production is from the eastern equivalent of the Woodbine and Eagleford horizons of the Mexia district, and has been found extending in a northeast-southnlest direction across the River Neches on the southeast flank of the dome. One of the best wells, the T. H. Jones No. 2, had an initial production of 90 bbl. per hr., and others have made from 100 bbl. per day to 50 bbl. per hr., but production of the better wells has either been shut in or choked down to less than 2000 bbl. per day. At the end of the year the daily average, production was about 2500 bbl. from 8 wells. Considerable gas pressure is present and one well, the Elliot Clark No. 2, drilled in 1927, was shut in with an estimated wet gas production of over 5,000,000 cubic feet.

The unit agreement for the Wertz Dome field, Wyoming, was approved by the Acting Secretary of the United States Department of the Interior on November 4, 1937, effective on December 1, 1937. The stated objectives of the agreement are to conserve and put to beneficial use all oil and gas produced; to make possible a uniform withdrawal of oil and gas in order to maintain equalized reservoir pressures; to provide for an orderly determination of the structural features of the productive horizons; and to permit the injection of gas for pressure maintenance. The purpose of this paper is to show by a discussion of the problems involved and the engineering practices employed by the unit operator, how well the objectives of the unit agreement have been accomplished in the development and production of oil and gas from the field. HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT The Wertz Dome oil and gas field is located 88 miles southwest of Casper and 38 miles north and westerly from Rawlins, Wyoming. It is served by a state secondary oiled road connecting with U. S. Highway No. 220 at Lamont, a distance of 3 miles from the field. It has been a producing field for 27 years, first as an important producer of gas and more recently of oil. The Producers and Refiners Corp. completed Well No. 1, NE1/4SW1/4 sec. 7, T. 26 N., R. 89 W., the first productive well in the field, in September. 1921, in the Muddy sandstone of Upper Cretaceous age, at a depth of 3435 feet for an initial production of 42,000,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. In 1922 pipe lines were laid to Casper, Wyoming, for supplying fuel to the Standard of Indiana refinery, &apos;the adjoining town of Mills. and the Producers and Refiners Corp. pump station No. 6 in Mills; and to Parco (now Sinclair), Wyoming, for supplying that refinery with fuel. The gasoline content of the gas was extracted in an absorption plant located near the town of Mills. No compressors were used as the line pressure was sufficiently high to flow the gas through the absorbers. As high as 30,000,000 cu. ft. of gas per day were treated in the plant extracting 6000 gallons of gasoline. In September 1937, the pipe line was discontinued and the plant was dismantled at which time 61,000,000,000 cu. ft. of gas had been produced from the seven Muddy, Cloverly, and Sundance gas wells drilled in the field. Of this volume of gas 800,000,000 cu. ft. were produced from the Frontier formation, 34,200,000,000 cu. ft. from the Muddy sandstone, 24,000,000,000 cu. ft. from the Cloverly, locally called Dakota, and 2,000,000,000 cu. ft. from the Sundance formation. The pipe line was discontinued because of the near depletion of the gas reserves in Wertz and nearby fields, and hecause of the local field requirements demanding the retention of the remaining gas reserves. In December 1936, the Sinclair Wyoming Oil Co. completed Well No. 10, SE1/4NW1/4 sec. 7. T. 26 N., R. 89 W., at a depth of 5886 feet. as the first Tensleep sand producer with an intial of 1700 barrels of oil per day. The well was originally drilled only 14 feet into the sand and in August 1939 was deepened to a depth of 6161 feet, 289 feet in the sand, and the daily produe tion increased to 8350 barrels of oil. In February 1948 Well No. 22, SE1/4 SE1/4 sec. 1. T. 26 N., R. 90 W., was deepened from the Tensleep to the Basal Amsden sand and completed at a depth of 6635 feet for an intial of 600 barrels of oil per day in the Basal Amsden. In April 1948, Well No. 2. SW1/4 NE1/4 sec. 1, T. 26 N., R. 90 W.. was deepened from the Tensleep to the Madison limestone and was completed at a depth of 7193 feet for an intial of 1145 barrels of oil per day in the Madison. Well No. 26, SE1/4SE1/4 sec. 1, T. 26 N.. R. 90 W., was deepened from the Ten-sleep to the Cambrian and in October 1948 it was completed in the Cambrian for an intial of 277 barrels of oil per day. GEOLOGY AND PRODUCTIVE ACREAGE The surface is Steele shale of Upper Cretaceous age, covered in part by gravel beds. SAN DIMAS, in the State of Durango, Mexico, on the frontier of the State of Sinaloa, is the centre of an extensive and rich mining region, which has been exploited for over a hundred years; and the patio process for working silver ores has there attained the highest perfection of which it is capable. Local modifications have been engrafted upon the underlying principles of the process, but, as a whole, the San Dimas practice so fully illustrates its typical capabilities, that I have undertaken to describe its workings in the hope of lightening, to some degree, the labors of my professional brethren who may have occasion to visit Mexico." As is tolerably well known, the patio process, like all other systems of free amalgamation, is not successful with ores containing more than a trace of zinc or lead, the presence of zincblende being especially obnoxious. Iron and copper in small quantities are not particularly disadvantageous. The process succeeds very well with all sulphide ores which do not contain much more than a trace of arsenic and antimony, provided the tailings are concentrated, although, of course, it is best adapted for free milling ores. For suitable silver ores that contain small amounts of free gold the process is still a good one, but where the gold is combined with sulphurets, a considerable and even an excessive loss is inevitable. Hitherto the Mexicans have submitted to this loss, but, since the introduction of American mills, they are gradually abandoning the patio process in favor of the other. The San Dimas ores have a gangue of quartz and feldspar. They are composed principally of silver sulphides, with some chloride and

The present value of most coal properties resides largely in the cod remaining to be mined, which thus constitutes the most important asset. The object of this paper is to discuss methods commonly used in computing the value of minable coal. To distinguish clearly between such coal values and the values of other property, the several kinds of property values should be divided into classes; so as to avoid the unintentional omission of items of importance. Value op Coal Reserves Judicial decisions prescribe, and appraisers commonly accept, current sales value as the preferred means for determining the value of transferable property. With few exceptions a property is worth the sum that can be realized from its sale by a willing seller to a willing buyer, a sale in which compulsion urges neither party, and between whom there is no community of interest to fix a value; or it is worth at least as much as a responsible buyer will offer for it. Actual sales of like property or bids from responsible buyers for the property, or for substantially like property, are the best established methods for determining values. Only in the absence of such sales or bids can valuations by other methods be entertained, and only for reasons of weight can sales values be set aside. Valuation Based on Royalties Sales of coal in the ground, as customarily carried out through lease under royalty agreements, are therefore the most trustworthy means available for determining the value of coal reserves. The constantly rising value of high-grade coal in the United States can most readily be shown by the increasing royalties per ton that can be obtained for such coals under leasehold. The rising value of land containing such coal can also, of course, be proven by the price at which such properties are actually sold as compared with prices obtainable for lands containing coal of the same grade in the past.
