Gold recovered on the strikes at the Central Norseman mill, Norseman, Western Australia, has an approximate assay fineness of 850. Bullion recovered from the cyanide plant at the mine is of much lower value, and occasionally its assay fineness has been as low as 250. This indicates either that the fine gold particles in the ore consist of an alloy richer in silver than the coarse particles or else that a silver mineral, as well as the gold, is dissolved by the cyanide solutions.It had been observed at the mine that the amount of silver in the bullion appeared to increase when galena appeared to be more abundant in the stoped ore. Interest was, therefore, attached to the possible occurrence of a silver mineral associated with galena and, at the same time, soluble in cyanide.Four specimens of ore from different horizons in the mine were collected by the mine staff for examination as to whether any marked difference in the fineness of gold was apparent on a polished surface and for determination of the silver minerals. As the Norseman ore-body is a quartz reef containing a very small percentage of sulphide, the specimens were selected either because they cont;:lined free gold or because they were, relatively rich in sulphides. They were obtained from the following localities at the Phoenix shaft.1. Level 16, section 28.2. Level 16, section 31.3. Level 8, section 31.4. Level 14, section 38.Specimens Nos. 1 and 2 were thus obtained from different positions at the same mining horizon, while specimens Nos 2 and 3 were obtained from different levels in the same vertical section of the mine.All the specimens consist of quartz characterized by thin, discontinuous seams of sericite and the presence of a little ankerite. Gold and sulphides tend to be localized along these seams, but particles of gold and sulphides are also scattered throughout areas of white quartz. This scattered distribution of the sulphides in relatively wide areas of quartz has involved the preparation of two or more polished sections from each specimen.The outcome of the microscopical examination of these specimens has been to determine that there is no appreciable variation in the colour of the polished particles of gold and, therefore, no marked difference in the amount of silver alloyed with the coarse and fine particles. The presence of small quantities of the tellurides sylvanite, hessite and altaite has been revealed, and found to vary in abundance with the abundance of galena.

The petrology and age of mid Cretaceous to Palaeogene marine volcanics may provide important clues to the palaeogeography of the period, particularly for tectonic elements and events outboard of the Papuan Basin. This initial survey of known marine volcanics of this age reveals a paucity of reliable data on isotopic ages, geochemistry and syngenetic mineralisation on virtually all units. Existing data allows a tentative subdivision of known marine volcanics into either MORB-like early Palaeogene rifts/ marginal basins, early Palaeogene ensimatic arc rocks overlying ?Late Cretaceous and Palaeogene fore-arc/marginal basin crust, late Palaeogene ensimatic arc rocks, and mid to Late Cretaceous ensialic rift rocks. Due to lack of data, some units are difficult to classify into these categories.

Discrete (digital) signal processing techniques are proving to be very valuable tools for miners using the block cave method. Waveform analysis of different measured signals associated with active mining provides valuable information on production dynamics and safe operation of the mine. For example, correlation of the three-dimensional surface displacement velocity waveform and the production output waveform reveals a remarkably predictable time-varying physical process. In this paper, the authors discuss the signal processing techniques used to study these relationships, as well as the related implications for mining.

Whole body vibration is known to affect movement accuracy [1], however little is known about changes in the organization of movement and movement strategies used to limit the influences of perturbations. The specific aim of this work is to analyze the motion and coordination of upper body segments of seated operators performing reaching tasks under whole-body sinusoidal vibration exposure and simulated vehicle ride motion. The long-term objective is to model reach coordination and predict the dynamic behavior of the upper body motion under vehicle vibration exposure. Method The reach task consisted of pointing with the right hand index finger to targets located on touch screens placed in front of the subject, 45° overhead and 90° to the right in the mockup cabin of an HMMWV placed on a 6 DOF ride motion simulator. The task was performed under stable (no vibration) and vibration (sinusoidal vibration or simulated ride motion) conditions. A motion capture system was used to record kinematic data of reflective markers to recreate body link trajectories. Joint angles (torso, shoulder and elbow; Figure 1) were then computed using quaternions. Coordination between body links was defined as a) the joints angle-versus-angle relationships between the upper arm and lower arm, and b) the joint motion onset relationships between torso, upper arm and lower arm in the time domain. Results Angle–versus-angle relationships. The relationship between upper arm vs. lower arm angle and torso vs. upper arm angle for a far forward reaching movement in the stable (solid lines) and vibration conditions (dotted lines) are illustrated in Figure 2. Fig 2A compares the control condition with a 4 Hz lateral vibration while Fig 2B compares the control condition with a 6 Hz vertical vibration. It appears that under vibration exposure the reduced upper arm extension is compensated by an increase in torso flexion. This effect is seen in the last phase of the movements (encircled areas). In addition, the lower arm extension is delayed under 6 Hz vertical vibration (Fig 2B left panel). Time of joint motion onset. ABSTRACT: This paper contributes to the study of underground structures in argillaceous media, especially Tournemire argillites (Aveyron, France). The basic results obtained over six years in two experimental drifts at the Tournemire site are presented. In situ measurements cover drift wall temperature, humidity and convergence. Delayed convergence represents around 50-65% of the total measured convergence. Analysis of the measurements has shown that delayed convergence is explained by the viscoplastic behaviour of the argillaceous formations. Lemaitre’s rheological model has been extended to the orthotropic case, as Tournemire argillite is naturally anisotropic. The triaxial creep test results on samples at different orientations enabled the parameters of the Tournemire argillite to be identified in terms of orthotropic viscoplastic law. A plane deformation model, using this rheological law and the initial stress field in the site, was developed to interpret the convergence measurements in the drifts. The computed results match the measurements well, especially during the excavation phase. KEY WORDS: Argillite, convergence, time-dependent behaviour, creep, viscoplasticity, modelling. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Der vorliegende Artikel ist ein Beitrag zur Untersuchung der unterirdischen Strukturen tonhaltiger Milieus, insbesondere der Tongesteine von Tournemire (Aveyron, Frankreich). Die wichtigsten Ergebnisse, die in zwei Forschungsstrecken am Standort Tournemine über einen Beobachtungszeitraum von sechs Jahren zusammengetragen wurden, werden hier vorgestellt. Gemessen wurden in situ Temperatur, Feuchtigkeit und Streckenkonvergenz. Von der insgesamt gemessenen Konvergenz sind etwa 50 bis 65 % auf zeitlich verzögerte Konvergenz zurückzuführen. Die Auswertung aller Messungen hat ergeben, dass die zeitverzögerte Konvergenz mit dem viskos-plastischen Verhalten des Tonsteinmassivs zu erklären ist. Aufgrund der naturgemäßen Anisotropie des Tongesteins von Tournemine wurde das rheologische Modell von Lemaitre auf den orthotropen Fall ausgedehnt. Triaxiale Kriechversuche bei jeweils unterschiedlicher Ausrichtung dienten der Ermittlung der einzelnen Parameter des orthotropen, viskos-plastischen Gesetzes. Zur Auswertung der Konvergenzmessungen innerhalb der beiden Strecken wurde unter Beachtung dieses rheologischen Modells sowie des ursprünglichen Spannungszustands vor Ort ein flächiges Deformationsmodell entwickelt. Die Rechenergebnisse zeigen eine gute Übereinstimmung mit den Messungen, insbesondere während der Vortriebsphase. RESUME : Cet article est une contribution à l’étude des structures souterraines dans les milieux argileux, notamment les argilites de Tournemire (Aveyron, France). Les principaux résultats obtenus pendant six années, dans deux galeries d’expérimentation au site de Tournemire, sont présentés. Ces mesures portent sur la température, l’humidité et la convergence des parements des galeries. La convergence différée représente environ 50 à 65% de la convergence totale mesurée. L’analyse de l’ensemble des mesures a montré que la convergence différée est interprétée par le comportement viscoplastique du massif argileux. Etant donné que l’argilite de Tournemire est naturellement anisotrope, le modèle rhéologique de Lemaitre a été étendu au cas orthotrope. Les résultats des essais de fluage triaxial, sur des échantillons à différentes orientations, ont permis de déterminer les paramètres de la loi viscoplastique orthotrope. Un modèle en déformation plane, utilisant cette loi rhéologique et l’état de contrainte initiale dans le site, a été développé en vue d’interpréter les mesures de convergence dans les galeries. Les résultats des calculs sont en bon accord avec les mesures et plus particulièrement durant la phase de creusement. Paper presented at Mineralisation in the Caledonides, the Mike Gallagher memorial meeting held in Edinburgh, 27-28 June 1996. Quantitative point analysis and microchemical mapping identified 52 different types of mineral in inclusions, usually ranging in size from 5 to less than 1 micrometre, inherited from source bedrock. A combination of grain chemistry, heterogeneity and inclusions provides a grain signature reflecting the type and history of source mineralisation. Several grains from an alluvial site are needed, to allow for bedrock variation and the presence of inclusions in only 10-20% of grains. A total of 1 530 grains obtained from 30 localities in Scotland were of ten types, two of them minor variants. Two types in the Highlands may be related to centres of Caledonian igneous activity, but the most widespread is likely to have been of deep-seated origin and structurally controlled. Gold in the Ochil Hills is probably from a source associated with Devonian andesitic activity. In the Southern Uplands, grain types reflect two separate episodes of mesothermal lode gold mineralisation and relationships with Permian red beds/mafic volcanics and with Tertiary dykes

The amount of vertical subsidence occurring over a longwall operation is a function of the thickness of material removed, the quantity and quality of any fill material, the width of the extraction, and the depth. The relationship between these variables is empirically determined, and subsidence can be predicted using only a few easily established constants which are subject to local conditions, such as the angle of draw. Associated with the vertical subsidence are both tensional and compressional horizontal strains. The component of strain in the direction of face advance is temporary, while the component perpendicular to the direction of working is permanently retained by the ground. It is these horizontal strains and the vertical strain (tilt) which result in damage to surface structures. It is possible to ameliorate the consequences of mining subsidence by utilizing the well-proved techniques described in this paper in the underground operations and on the surface. INTRODUCTION In the past, American mining practice in stratified deposits has been mostly restricted to production by the room-and-pillar system where a sizable percentage of the salable product is left in place as pillars. These pillars are usually regularly spaced and provide a permanent support for the roof of the mine and the surface above. The longwall system employs an advancing face which may be as much as several hundred yards long and some sort of breaking and loading machine which moves back and forth along the length of the face. The roof is supported behind the face only to a distance required to provide working space for the production machine. The supports are then withdrawn and the roof is allowed to cave. The longwall system therefore possesses the various advantages of complete extraction, thus effectively increasing reserves, while at the same time eliminating the necessity and cost of installing artificial supports such as roof bolts and heavy steel girders over large areas. Longwall mining has long been practiced in Europe, where it has undergone an involved development, culminating in the recent perfection of powered-loading machines and automatic self-propelled supports, offering high productivity. Eh-pH measurements were taken on an industrial zinc reverse flotation process at Brunswick Mining and Smelting Corporation Limited. Laboratory zinc reverse flotation testwork on samples of the feed to the industrial process produced Eh-pH data which were similar to the data from the industrial process.Later, the Eh-pH data from the industrial process were compared with data from a pilot plant scale zinc reverse flotation process at Mount Isa Mines Limited. After comparison with the data from Brunswick Mining and Smelting Corporation, deficiencies in the pilot plant Eh-pH data could be recognised and corrective actions were taken for the pilot plant. A robust pilot plant zinc reverse flotation process was obtained with consistent performance at the expected level.The implications of these findings for a range of processes are also discussed.

Cameroon continued to enjoy sustained economic growth that began with its independence in 1960. Growth in the gross domestic product (GDP) averaged 2.8% per year during the 1960's and the first half of the 1970's. Starting in 1976 and for the succeeding 10 years, the GDP accelerated rapidly owing to the coming on-stream of Cameroon's small but domestically significant offshore oil industry. In 1985, the GDP grew by 7.8%, but in 1986, it was only up 5.5%. The country's sustained economic growth in dollar terms of gross national product (GNP) per capita reached $1,075 in 1986. The ranking in GNP per capita by the International Monetary Fund put Cameroon in the middle-income category for developing countries. The sustained economic growth rate up to 1986 was due to the injection of income from oil into the economy, but crude oil price reductions in 1986 brought a slowdown. In 1986, crude oil production grew to 200,000 barrels per day, an increase of 8.2% from that of 1985. Most of the oil came from the Société Nationale Elf Aquitaine (SNEA) wells in the multifield Rio del Rey complex. Additional output came from the Moudi Field operated by Compagnie Française des Pétroles S.A. Proven oil reserves in Cameroon were 540 million barrels. At 1986 production rates, and in the absence of further discoveries, Cameroon will have exhausted its recoverable oil reserves by the year 1995. Owing to worldwide crude price reductions, the country's oil income fell 60% between 1985 and 1986, from $1.82 billion2 to $0.72 billion. Cameroon's refinery operator commenced operating the Sonara refinery in 1981 at Point Limboh. Sonara's capacity of 43,000 barrels per day was small by most standards. In 1986, natural gas reserves, estimated at 100 billion cubic meters, were not produced commercially because there were no domestic users. Proposals for a multibillion-dollar liquefied natural gas plant at Kribi had been submitted; however, work on the plant had not commenced.

IN any manufacturing business, it is of vital importance that the management should know the exact cost of the units of production. Without such knowledge, a company can sell blindly in the open market, obtaining the best prices it can in competition with other firms, and manage perhaps to continue in business for a time; but at any moment, and especially in a period of falling prices, such a firm is at a loss to know exactly at what point it can sell at a profit and exactly how much it is losing per unit if it sells below that point. Furthermore, it is necessary not simply to know the exact total cost per unit, but to know definitely all the different-factors which enter into that cost. A firm manufacturing pocket knives had been doing a profitable business for many years when it began to earn smaller and smaller profits, until there was scarcely any profit at all being realized. Being unable to determine exactly what its future policy should be, it called in experts who studied the past records carefully and followed out for a period a better cost, system. Investigation then showed that on several different kinds of knives in common use, a small profit per unit was being made. On a number of special kinds of knives, of which the firm was very proud, it had been forced to cut prices under the pressure of outside competition and had believed that a small profit per unit was still being made on that product, while a detailed cost analysis showed that a loss was being incurred on each knife of that kind produced. It then became clear that the company must either give up the special line and concentrate wholly on the cheaper knives and extend their sales to territory not yet developed; or expand its plant and produce more of the higher grade knives and thus lower the cost per unit enough to make money on the higher grade knives also, if conditions warranted such expansion. Investigation revealed that the market for large quantities of the high-grade -knives was decidedly uncertain and that the most promising move would be to manufacture only the less expensive knives on a larger scale. That plan was carried out and the concern began again to make a better profit.

The Bureau of Mines made a study of mines and prospects of the Benton Range RARE II area (No. 5056), Mono County, California in October and November 1980. The study area is west of Owens Valley and 30 mi (40 km) north of Bishop, California. The mineral deposits were evaluated by examination of mines, prospects, and mining claims by the Bureau of Mines. Geological, geochemical, and geophysical studies were conducted by the Geological Survey. The principal mineral commodities of the Benton Range RARE II area are gold and silver but tungsten deposits may also extend into the area. Properties with resources are listed in table 1; their locations are shown on figure 1.

A total of 117 slope stabilization drilled piers were installed as part of a major hillside revitalization project. The 110-million dollar development, known as Stratford at Kenwood, included an 18-story upscale senior residential tower, a 3-story healthcare building, and 4-story condominium buildings, offering approximately 580,000 square feet of living space with panoramic views of Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. In an effort to establish a flatter hillside plateau for the new 4-story condominium and to create a cut and fill balanced jobsite environment, an 800-foot long row of drilled piers and a 600-foot long multi-tiered shear key system was used to terrace existing 1.5H to 3H: 1V steep slopes and support the new fill. These slope stabilization features reduced the amount of spoils needed to be wasted off-site and mitigated the risk of slope instability. An ODOT/FHWA research indicated that spacing of stabilization piers and necessity of top-connecting elements are highly dependent on pier diameter, spacing, soil type, depth to potential failure surface, surcharge loads, and pier deflection. Due to pre-existing deep buried swales, various load combinations, and the complex mechanism of soil arching effects between adjacent piers, both analytical and numerical computer modeling was performed to estimate the loading on each pier. New generation multiplexed, 3-Dimensional, Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System based inclinometers were installed between selected piers to confirm the pier design, and monitor the fill placement, as well as long-term slope stability.

The Phoenix mine on the Mararoa Reef at Norseman, Western Australia, provides an outstanding: AUstralian instance of the recurrence of payable ore beneath the bottom of an abandoned mine, and an interesting and instructive example of the development ofideas with regard to ore recurrence in a particular district. The Mararoa Reef is the most productive of several hypothermal goldquartz vains in pre-Cambrian basic volc81olics which strike northsouth and dip on the average, 45 degrees east. The Phoenix minewas abandoned at 500 ft. vertical depth after producing 342,000 tons of 9.9 dwt. recovery grade (equivalent to nearly half of the total production of the Norseman field) from a 2,500 ft.. long, horizontally disposed oreshoot, which is reported to have had an ore outcrop only 30 ft. in length.Interest in the field was revived in 1933, and by 1941 new ore mined and developed on the Mararoa Reef by Central Norseman Gold Corporation N.L. amounted to approximately 700,000 tons of 6.7 dwt. recovery grade. In the same period another oreshoot of similar size and grade was developed by Norseman Gold Mines N.L., south of the old Mararoa company's site. As shown by the plans, the ore occurs in discontinuous shoots. The intervening area of shear is poor in quartz as well as in gold. Geological work on behalf of Western Mining Corporation Ltd., and Central Norseman Gold Corporation N.L. has been in progress in the mine and in the field more or less continuously from 1913 to 1941 and again since 1946. This paper describes the successive advances in the understanding of the exploratory problem up to late 1941, to which several investigators have contributed. H. E. McKinstryl visited the mine and recognised that the ore occurred primarily on the flatly dipping sections of the vein, as distinct from the steeply dippingsections, in a wide shear zone with reverse movement. Many of the flatly dipping fractures were seen to exhibit tension phenomena and to link one shear plane to the next below on the footwall side. To maximise recovery by highwall mining, pillars must be designed which are long, slender and of relatively low width-to-height ratios. The strength of pillars with width/height less than 2 depends primarily on the mechanical response of the coal, due to the reduced influence of frictional restraint between roof and floor. A suitable pillar design approach therefore requires a method of estimating coal-seam properties. Experimental studies were carried out to determine ways of reliably predicting the large-scale mechanical properties of coal seams from small-scale test data. The studies led to a method of practical, systematic assessment of coal-seam properties based on measurement of coal rank and seam brightness profiles. The criterion employs the parameters sigma(c), m and s of the generalised Hoek-Brown empirical strength criterion for rock masses. The Drainage Services Department (DSD) of the Hong Kong SAR Government commissioned the design and construction of the West Kowloon Drainage Improvement, Stage 2, Phase 2, Kai Tak Transfer Scheme (KTTS) project in 2000 to relieve potential flooding in Mong Kok caused by the insufficient capacity of the existing storm water drainage system. The KTTS involves construction of a 1.5km,4.4m drainage tunnel and a 450m long box culvert, running from Waterloo Road near Hereford Road to the existing Kai Tak Nullah in San Po Kong. This paper describes the design and construction of; the bored tunnel through both hard rock and soft ground using a slurry Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), six associated access shafts, a connection structure at Waterloo Road and the box culvert connecting the bored tunnel to the outfall at Kai Tak nullah. Details will be provided on the contractor’s alternative designs adopted during the contract including the use of fibre reinforced shotcrete as one-pass temporary and permanent support for three of the shafts and modifications to the Engineer’s design for the box culvert structure.

A new 2.5D airborne electromagnetic (AEM) algorithm has been developed by Intrepid Geophysics and Jovan Silic & Associates. The advantage of 2.5D (2D geology, 3D source) AEM inversion in 3D geological mapping applications and identification of conductive drilling targets, compared to the more commonly used conductivity-depth imaging (CDI) transforms or 1D inversions, are demonstrated using examples from banded iron formations (BIFs) and other geological settings. We show emerging AEM systems are capable of providing estimates of economic rock unit thicknesses, dips and fault definition at an accuracy that mitigates the need for pattern drilling.The 2.5D inversion application used in this work and described in Silic et al (2015) is a substantially changed version of ArjunAir (Wilson, Raiche and Sugeng, 2006), a product of CSIRO/AMIRA project P223F. The changes include a new forward model algorithm and a new inversion solver. The application enables the accurate simulation of 3D source excitation for full domain models inclusive of topography, non-conforming boundaries and very high resistivity contrasts. Solution is accurate for a geoelectrical cross-section, which is relatively constant along a strike length that exceeds the AEM system footprint.The major innovation includes a new inversion solver with adaptive regularisation, which allows the incorporation of a misfit to the reference model and the model smoothness function.Memory usage has been dramatically reduced and is estimated prior to execution. For speed the software has been parallelised using Intel message passing interface (MPI) and can be used on standard computing hardware or computing clusters. Data from survey lines with lengths exceeding 100 km can be inverted on high end laptop computers.We allow flexibility in the selection of components and in the estimation of noise.AEM inversion examples are shown for surveys from BIFs, base metals (volcanogenic massive sulfides) and geological mapping projects and the results are compared with known geology and drilling. "Acid mine drainage (AMD), the very acidic and heavy metal-contaminated leachate generated when pyrite-bearing rocks are exposed to surface oxidizing conditions, is a serious environmental problem encountered after the closure of mines and mineral processing operations. In this study, we investigated the effects of soluble phases and metallic oxides, which are commonly found in strongly weathered pyritic wastes, on pyrite oxidation. Strongly weathered pyrite containing melanterite (FeSO4·7H2O) as the main soluble phase was obtained from Furikusa mine, Japan. The sample was washed using two methods to vary the relative amounts of melanterite in the sample. The effect of metallic oxides on pyrite oxidation was evaluated using ultrapure hematite suspensions. Our results showed that under acidic conditions, the effect of soluble salts on the oxidation of pyrite was stronger than hematite. More thorough washing of the sample resulted in the formation of an arsenic-bearing iron-oxyhydroxysulfate coating that minimized pyrite dissolution. This oxidized layer became relatively thicker and mechanically stronger when hematite was introduced after the more thorough removal of soluble salts. Characterization of this “coating” coupled with geochemical modeling suggest that it is most probably composed of two materials: schwertmannite and scorodite. Based on these results, a new approach to suppress pyrite oxidation by directly using iron-oxyhydroxysulfate as coating material is introduced.INTRODUCTION Acid mine drainage (AMD), the very acidic and heavy metals-contaminated leachate produced in closed/abandoned mine sites (Evangelou, 1995), mineral processing and coal cleaning tailings (Evangelou, 1995), and tunnel construction waste rocks (Tabelin and Igarashi, 2009, Tabelin et al., 2012), is one of the oldest and probably the most serious environmental problem of anthropogenic origin. This paper presents an experimental program to investigate the behavior of a pile with wings under horizontal loads in sand at laboratory. The work focused on evaluating the lateral resistance behavior and the geometric effect of wing board on the horizontal resistance. Based on the measured data and observed phenomenon, the following behaviors have been observed: 1) A pile with wings is not only a powerful means to improve the horizontal bearing capacity of a pile foundation but also economy and feasibility; 2) The horizontal bearing capacity of a pile with wings increases with increasing of it?s wing board?s area; 3) The pile lateral capacity is also influenced by the wing board?s geometric shape. Under a certain soil and pile condition, there is a critical embedment depth of the wing board, which will yield the maximum horizontal bearing capacity. It was further observed that when the displacement of the pile head increases, part of the horizontal bearing capacity of the pile is developed by the so-called shaft?s anti-pulling capacity.

Inertial navigation technology has, for the first time, allowed the position of a longwall shearer to be mapped in three dimensions. Following the success of the technology in highwall mining and successful trials on a longwall face, the Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP) commissioned a three year "Landmark" project that aimed to advance longwall automation to the level of "on-face observation" by the end of 2004. This project has been completed with the following successful technical outcomes: Automatic face alignment was achieved, using an inertial navigation-based sensor on the shearer, to accurately measure face geometry and feedback signals used to move OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) roof supports. Operational on-line measurement of creep with creep information incorporated into face alignment corrections. Inertial Navigation System (INS)-based enhanced horizon control was bench-tested. Operational broadband communications system to shearer using wireless Ethernet on a commercial-product basis. Acquisition of located coal-face features for use in thermal infrared-based horizon control. Automated Longwall Information System (LIS) developed which integrates information from multiple systems and sensors and provides high quality visualisation and control interfaces. Automatic roadway and face convergence monitoring tools successfully tested. Condition monitoring tools developed and demonstrated for improved face reliability. This paper summarises the outcomes of the project and describes the work being undertaken for the 2 year Landmark Extension project approved in April 2005. Consistent with the conference theme, the paper focuses on the ground control aspects of the project.
